I had the lunch buffet. I have to say I've been pretty spoiled when it comes to asian food. I really miss my favorite place back in Illinois. BUT I was surprised here. The buffet was small but what they had really counted. Everything was seasoned to the intensity that I like, which I would describe as medium-high flavor impact. Egg rolls didn't even need soy sauce.

One of the better Asian places I've eaten in. Authentic - which is good or bad depending on what you want. Americans use to more sweetish flavored foods might be disappointed. The service is so so (the waiter forgot about us once) but the food is good.

Surprisingly authentic. We've had great experience with their hot and sour soup, potstickers, Ma Po tofu, etc. More to the point: excellent service. A true sign of an establishment is how they handle their mistakes. On a very large take out order, our server accidentally forgot to include a large hot and sour soup. When we got home and realized the mistake, I called them up to let them know, and the woman immediately offered to give us a large soup for free the next time we stopped by. I was worried that with no written record this "promise" would go unfulfilled, or at best we'd have to convince the staff that the promise had been made. Not at all: the next evening, we showed up at Bamboo Garden during the dinner rush and requested our free soup to go. They were as good as their word: no grumbling that we weren't ordering anything else, no hassle, prompt, apologetic, and polite. Perfect execution of service. I'm sold.

This is the best Chinese (+I think?) In Midland which isn't saying much. You can get better Chinese food for less in big cities... Only go here when we really don't want to cook. Its not bad, and at least the portions are reasonable, but it also isn't that good. It lacks balance. Sauces are either too sweet and or salty, or not enough. The meat is usually mushy in the goo of sauce.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Midland. I like it because it has authentic Chinese dishes along with Americanized-Chinese dishes. It's where the local Chinese come to eat. I recommend the boiled fish for a spicy dish. It sounds plain but it's basically a very flavorful tilapia soup with plenty of vegetables and lots of red pepper. There's a sister restaurant in Lansing called Hong Kong.

The Only authentic Chinese restaurant in town. I like their spicy fish and a cold dish called couple lung in Chinese

Best Chinese in town. Nice lunch buffet. Lots of authentic choices if u order from menu. Also good Americanized Chinese food. I like the tofu dishes and cumin lamb most.

This has to be the best Chinese place in Midland to eat. Most of the food here is Sichuan-style; which means it is spicy for those that don't know. The spicy tofu is really good. They even make Kimchi, which is Korean but is it really good as well. A lot of their customers are Asian so you know the place has authentic food. They do have American style dish that you are use to. They are on the lunch menu, but I would ask for the dinner menu that has more of the authentic items. Explore a little.

This is by far the best Chinese around. Jalapeño chicken is a dish I've never seen anywhere else and is definitely worth trying if you like spicy food.

Love this place! They have many vegan and vegetarian choices that are so good! This is really a cut above all Chinese restaurants in the Tri-cities area. Not a "fancy" place but service is great...friendly, quick, and delicious!

Didn't really enjoy the food...but maybe it was too authentic? Mongolian chicken was very different than I ever had. Asian Express is my pick for Midland Chinese carry out.

Super Authentic, quality Chinese food in the tri-city area. If you want the real stuff, you have to come here. If you want Americanized Stuff, then go to the mall. The real standout is the fish with preserved veg. I think you can get Chinese Hot Pot here too. (which I can't even find down here in the D.) My parents have been going here for years, and really it's your only choice. Obviously, the tricky part is ordering off the Chinese Menu, but it's worth the effort.

We stopped here for lunch on the strength of other Yelpers' recommendations...and were not disappointed. We were intrigued by some of the items on the lunch buffet, so we ordered that; it included dishes familiar to us like orange chicken and gong pau pork, but there was also a very tasty spicy chicken with a unique flavor...sauteed green beans and pork that I think may have had rice wine or some other wine-y ingredient in it that really made the flavor pop...a delicious spicy napa and eggplant dish...a cold noodle salad with a hint of -- star anise, maybe? -- in it; very good. The tea, both hot and iced, was nice -- fresh, light and refreshing. Chinese food in outstate Michigan is so generic that it was a real pleasure to taste-test all iour nteresting little samples and be pleased yet mystified by the exact seasonings in each dish. (The more pedestrian orange chicken and gong pau were, BTW, also good.) I had wonton soup which I didn't find pleasing; but the hot-and-sour soup was good. My egg roll had a tasty filling but was overly greasy -- maybe just a careless batch. We appreciated that the heat of the spicy dishes did not overpower the actual flavor of the dishes, as is so often the case -- they were pleasingly nippy, but the other flavors were allowed to shine. And the food was not as salty as a lot of Chinese food, which I appreciate. The restaurant is housed in what I suspect may have been a former fast-food shack...it is not a dive, but the dining area is rather modestly appointed; unlike some other Chinese restaurants, no pretensions to looking like an imperial palace. (But one nice plus for larger parties are two semi-private side rooms that can maybe seat 10 or so people.) We will definitely be back, and we are looking forward to exploring the tasty mysteries of the dinner menu.

I finally found a couple dishes that I like and will now up my ratings to three stars. Family style tofu, eggplant, clay pots were good.

Wasn't sure what to expect, but it was as close to real Chinese food as you are likely to find outside if a much bigger city. We were the only Occidentals in the place when we were there. The hot and sour soup did not disappoint and was both. We will be back before we return home.

Would give it a half of star if I could. This restaurant is failing and it's no wonder why. If they prepare your food incorrectly it's your fault and you still have to pay and then conveniently they claim they don't speak English when you don't agree with them or ask for something cooked properly. We were the only 2 ppl in the entire place during normal lunch hours, that should speak for itself. After they kept trying to persuade me to take the dumplings home (I wouldn't even feed to my dog if I had one) I simply had enough of this place. They continued to want to pack them for me even when they were well aware I did not want them to eat at any point in my life nor did my son. If they can't afford the loss then they should make all food edible. This place is unprofessional and underpar food at best... don't waste your money because if they make bad food you will have to pay for it. In this restaurant it does not matter what the customer thinks. I will NEVER return and am advising all people that know about this place, to do exactly the same.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
