It's good, but Chicken Coop's is much better. If I'm in the mood for chicken pot pie, I'll come here, but if I'm after fried chicken, no reason not to go to The Coop.

SOOOOO GOOD!!!!! We visited on 5/30/2015 at around 12:30ish (it was a Saturday) LOCATION: Located on S. Westnedge Ave just north of highway 94 on the east side of the street (shares strip mall parking lot space but is a free standing building). Facility was clean for the most part, our table was a bit sticky from a previous patrons. The women's bathroom needed attention (wallpaper ripped off, toilet paper holder ripped out of the wall & sitting on the sink counter along with the toilet paper rolls. STAFF: The lady that took our order was a curly greyed haired lady. She was polite & did a great job. FOOD: We ordered 2 of the 5 piece chicken strip dinner meals (came with 2 sides & a biscuit) & a large drink. The biscuit are to die for!!!! They are soft (unlike KFC!), melt in your mouth with a nice butter flavor to them. The potato wedges have a great seasoning to them & are so good. The green beans were hot, fresh & had a really nice taste to them. The potato salad is clean, fresh & very good. And the chicken is excellent, wonderful spices, hot & fresh!!! Their sweet tea is not overly sweet, so I really liked it. We were VERY happy with their food and will be returning!!!! And the prices are good!

Cheapest in town. Not a fancy place but they are always slammed for a reason... Their chicken is delicious.

Why do you need a review? If you have never been here, you're a fool. The chicken is a mixture of what heaven would taste like, and gravy. So get there now before I judge you on your decision making skills.

wow the only time I was here was Saturday, I won't be returning. I had one kid's meal, the corn looked like it was very old, and chewy. My meal was a famous 2 piece chicken, nothing big deal, no flavor, my coleslaw was very bitter. My unsweetened ice tea was so old and nasty tasting, that I took one sip and asked the cashier if there was any fresh tea and she replied "no". I saw a few minutes later that the tea canister was off the shelf. What a waste of my money for this meal. I will not return the next time that I am in Portage, MI

Had the pickles today and really enjoyed the taste and crunch of the batter. The chicken is always fresh and juicy. I don't get deep fried food very often, but when I do, this is the best I have found.

Having a regular game that meets every Saturday at the Fanfare across the lot means I get there early just so I can get a sit-down lunch here. It's that good. It is kind of expensive, but it's completely worth it, and I don't mind dropping a bit more cash when I feel I'm going to get my money's worth. The best part of the chicken would have to be... the chicken. That's right- unlike Chicken Coop, you take a bite of a nice, hot piece of chicken, and you get... flavor! Actual chicken that tastes like chicken, and slightly spiced breading that stays together on the bird and doesn't get mushy. The sides are yummy and delicious, and the sweet tea is pretty good. There is a drive-through, so now you have no excuse for not trying this place out if you're in the area.

This is WAY better than KFC or Chicken Coop. Get the "Original Recipe" fried chicken- it's delish. Sides are also great, and staff is friendly. Also has a drive through. Make sure to order some sort of "meal deal", if you order things separately it's much more expensive.

i guess the story is the founder of this place is Colonel Sander's nephew and he started this joint after KFC got sold... anyways, it's pretty good... i've mos def had better... i do, however, love the fact that you can buy sweet iced tea by the gallon or half gallon...
