Met a group of old friends here. While in the parking lot, I noticed a live band moving equipment in... complete with music stands. More on that later. It wasn't busy at all at around 6p, and open tables were plenty. We ordered beers... or tried to. It took the waitress almost half an hour to get our beer order. The bartender was standing around chatting with customers, and our drink orders were sitting dormant somewhere. OVER another half an hour to deliver said beers to the table. Like I said, it wasn't busy at all. The waitress, one of only 3 in the place at the time, explained that she was responsible for 20 tables herself. We told her to just leave an order ticket at the table, and we filled it out ourselves to try to help her out. The poor girl's tables were all over the place, and not assigned to a certain section. I saw that our neighboring tables were handed by other wait staff. These are all clues to the chaos. I noticed that no one else was getting food delivered to their tables either. It was almost like the kitchen had to spool up before kicking out orders. Our food finally arrived almost an hour later. My buddy ordered a side of onion rings. He received exactly 3 incredibly greasy onion rings. Count 'em: "3". I had the beef brisket with a side of bean soup and chili. The brisket was grey and looked disgusting. For $13, it was a very small portion of only 4 slices. It was evident to me that the brisket was pre-sliced and kept in a hot broth for quite some time before serving. My bean soup was mostly a beige liquid with very little contents. My chili was suffering the same malady. It consisted mostly of a tomato based liquid spiked with tomato chunks. That's all that was in there. No meat, no beans, nothing. I ended up using it as a dipping sauce for my tasteless grey brisket. Well after the place had already filled up, 2 more waitresses showed up for work at 8p. Way too late. The restaurant was already packed and the existing staff was well in the weeds. There were 2 live bands that night. Like I said earlier, they were using music stands. If you don't practice enough to know your songs, or even the order of your songs, please don't take on public gigs! It seemed like the band was reading different music than the singer was. Different key and everything. The bands were a constant source of comic amusement for us. Unfortunately, they were also a constant source of old, unpopular songs and ear pain. I was here at Rocky Top over a year ago. Things were much different then. The food was out quick and was tasty. Now, chaos seems to have taken over. Shortcuts in the kitchen now result in tasteless crap on a plate. Mismanaged waitstaff in absolute disarray. It didn't appear to be the fault of the waitstaff. It appeared that they've never been taught how to wait tables. They were all over the place, and even a few were sitting down chatting with friends. I would not return to Rocky Top, and would not recommend them to friends. At this rate, I don't have to worry about going back, as I don't think they will be in business that long.

This place was ok. Nice atmosphere. The drinks come in large mason jars. I got a Parmesan wrap that wasn't very good. The sauce tasted pretty similar to regular ranch and there was way to much of it on the wrap. My husband got a pulled barbecue pork he really enjoyed.

We stopped here meeting a friend as a halfway point, the beer selection was good unfortunately the prime rib was terrible...actually it wasn't prime rib because it was sliced and thrown on a griddle, browned on both sides.

Had a quick & delicious lunch. Yummy Smokey bacon, cheddar & mozzarella cheese, tomato, red onion..grilled sandwich. There was high praise for the fish tacos as well. There were several other items (like wings) we wanted to try as well as a huge selection of beers. Friendly & helpful waitstaff too.

We stopped here for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30ish. It was decently busy, but not overcrowded. We stood at the entryway for a few minutes before a hostess appeared. She barely cracked a smile and then tried to seat us 2 feet from the doorway when there were at least 6 better, open tables towards the back. We requested one of those tables and she begrudgingly sat us after asking the waitress if it was okay. The service from our waitress was fine; nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible. The food was pretty good. We ordered the Wagon Wheels (onion rings) to start. They are beer-battered, deep-fried, served on a stick, with an unconventional side of sweet-and-sour sauce. The onion rings were perfectly done. Fried to a golden brown with sweet onions within. The sauce was weirdly delicious and a great accompaniment to the onion rings. I ordered the Barbecue Nachos and my boyfriend ordered the Chicken Skewers. My barbecue nachos were delicious. House-made tortilla chips topped with pulled pork, a cheddar cheese sauce, and onions. I had my onions sauteed since I don't care much for raw onions. The nachos benefited from a healthy douse of barbecue sauce. There were quite a few fatty pieces in the pork which neither my boyfriend nor I cared much for. My boyfriend's chicken skewers were cajun-spiced and almost too spicy to eat. The dish came with two sides; he chose sweet potato fries and a side salad. The side salad was impressive with spinach and multiple toppings. The sweet potato fries were nothing exciting. All in all, we appreciated the quick food service and the quality of the food. We will be back... if only to try the fried pickles.

We ordered some take-out, though it was Valentines Day, it wasn't exceptionally busy in the restaurant for a holiday. More empty chairs, than occupied ones. The food we ordered was Deep-fried asparagus, wagon-wheels (onion-rings) and we purchased a pound of beef brisket. The asparagus was good, the onion rings were only half way cooked with raw dough in the middle on most of them and the pound of brisket, turn out to only be 8 oz (including the plastic containers & their lids) and tough to chew. Not sure how anyone could server food and not make sure it's cooked completely, give the customer 8 oz of the 1pound of brisket they paid for and it took me 15 minutes waiting to get the bartender to give me my food. She told me to give her a minute, while she leaned against the counter B.S.ing with a customer. 15 minutes later, she came over with the food. If I wasn't over a half an hour away and the weather wasn't crappy, I would have returned it all.

It is strange that the service almost refuses to improve. I'm a fan of their food overall, but the lead time on getting in and out, especially for lunch, is crazy.

I am from out of town. Went here to get a good dinner after a long day. It was a pretty bad experience. It took forever for a waitress to come get our drink orders. Then they took forever to come back. And then she left for another 10 minutes before taking our dinner orders. The food had potential but the dinner took forever to arrive and was lukewarm. My friend's steak was supposed to have onions on it, but they forgot. She took the steak back and we were 1/2 way thru dinner before it came back. Also, she had ordered medium rare but it was cooked to well done. My burnt ends were good, but my portion of sweet potato fries was decidedly skimpy. And my entire dinner was lukewarm. I won't be back next time I'm in town.

Would give this a zero if I could nine open tables at 5 pm on a Saturday. The hostess said they couldn't seat us because it would overwhelm the cooks. Then why have the tables? The waitress wouldn't even make re contact as she walked by three times. Worst service ever

Just terrible service. The bartender threw my food at me and then treated me like a jerk the entire time i was there.

I have ventured to this place only a few times now and mostly due to their food. Ordered the fried pickle slices and was kinda shocked to see they were not the ordinary small slices. These were slices from one of those large pickles. There were not easy to eat. The dill dip that accompanied them was tasty though. The wings were not very tasty and were actually over done when they arrived at the table. Thankfully it was Thursday so I was only out $5. Maybe I just keep catching this place on a bad night - I could be possible. Take note that the beer is cold and this will be the reason I will stop back again.

Ok.... it takes a lot for me to give 5 star's... But by far. This is hands down my favorite place to eat. Love the deep fried pickles... And your staff is amazing.... I will be coming back for years.

TERRIBLE service!! Wow, been here since 2:30pm it is now 4 pm and we just got our appetizers and this place isn't even packed. We had to go to the bar just to call attention to our waitress to refill our drinks. They havn't seen what busy looks like apparently because there is no way this is even considered busy. And now the waitress comes out and says the kitchen ran out of ribs. How does a BBQ place run out of ribs??? The food is ok BBQ, definately not the best. Will never come here again. They work at snail speed here. Come to a big city, we will show you what "busy" looks like.

It's about the only BBQ in Jackson that's actually opened a lot. It's average at best, nothing spectacular.

My husband and I were meeting 6 others at Rocky Top for dinner and drinks at 6:30. We arrived at 6pm for some drinks and to get a table. We were sat quickly and got a drink order within 5 minutes. I ordered a beer and my husband ordered an ice tea. When the other 6 arrived just before 6:30 my husband still had not received his ice tea The waitress finally came back to our table at 7:02 to take our drink orders. We ordered drinks and food at the same time as we waited so long just for her to acknowledge us. She would walk by our table and not make eye contact or even say I'll be right with you. The waitress asked the 12 year old that was with us what she could get for her, she responded with "can I get orange crush?". The waitress snapped "NO". We thought she was joking at first but realized when she said they were out, she was not joking. She informed us they only had root beer, lemonade and tea. I would not expect any a better choice of words. After she left, we waited sometime for our drinks. She remembered the ice tea the second time but forgot my 2nd beer. At apx 730 she came out to tell us that they were out of wings but she would put our appetizers in. We told her that we would just have our drinks and go elsewhere. This was repeated 3 times to her so it was surprising to us when she brought our appetizers out. We explained to her that we were just going to finish our drinks and leave but she said "I already put the appetizers in". She did not offer to take our apps back or comp them which was frustrating since we felt we were stuck with them. I don't think we have ever had such poor service.

Used a Restaurant.com certificate to try this place out. I had heard good things and was not disappointed. We had called ahead because we had planned on having a big crowd and they had plenty of room for us even though we ended up being a party of 5. Appetizers were great fried asparagus was something new and was delicious as was the fried pickles and chicken fingers. I got ribs and I thought they were delicious. waitress was good about remembering our orders and generally taking care of us. I'll definitely be back.

I've been here a few times. The service has varied. Bartender is generally focused on bar area and if you sit at a table you tend to wait about 15 minutes or so for a beer. The chicken wings here are awesome. I am not exaggerating, they are smoked and fall right off the bone. The rest of the BBQ is average in comparison to joints I've been to down south or places like Slows in Detroit. They usually run some decent beer specials and prices are reasonable. It's alright.

This place has awesome wings. The prices are moderate and the place is fairly well kept. They have a unique menu too. I highly recommend it for a casual dinner or lunch. They also have quite a few beers on tap.
