If you're in (or even near) Cheboygan, don't miss Step Inn! My wife and I had breakfast/lunch there, and it was remarkable. The food was all good, but what made it special was that nearly everything was homemade. I had breakfast; just eggs over-medium with wheat toast. The eggs were perfect (firm whites, soft, "dippable" yolks with no hint of anything runny), but the homemade wheat toast was spectacular--SOOOO good. For one thing, you immediately notice the slices are thicker than normal toast. But then you bite into it and that homemade flavor hits--yum. My wife had a hamburger with potato chips; boring, right? Hardly. Well, ok, the burger itself was fairly routine. However, she said the bun (again, apparently homemade) was wonderful. And the potato chips (yes, also homemade) were spectacular. They're huge, crispy, and scrumptious, with just the right amount of "salty." (As you've guessed, I was invited to share.) Add in the atmosphere--a clientele of obvious regulars, with the attendant cheerful conversation--and the friendly, attentive, knowledgeable service, and you get that elusive result so often attempted and so rarely achieved: a unique, neighborhood restaurant with lots of local individuality and really exceptional food. Step Inn is totally casual, with moderate prices. It's probably not going anywhere anytime soon (in business for over 40 years, 10 under current ownership), but if you get the chance, give this exceptional local business your support and get some terrific chow to boot. As their tee-shirts say, "If you're Steppin' Out, Step Inn!"

Stuffed hash browns were really good. Onions, cheese, green peppers and ham. I think the toast was made of bread from in house and it was very good. The waitress was polite and attentive even though she seemed to have every table in the place. For breakfast this place is a good choice. I did not try the coffee so I cannot comment on the quality of the coffee. My fellow diner had a breakfast wrap that she enjoyed.

This is a good breakfast / lunch place. The service is very good. The food is prepared like home. Fresh bread is a really nice touch. The breakfasts are very hearty and tasty. The burgers are great. This is a very solid choice when in Cheboygan.

Pretty average breakfast/brunch place. Came here the first time and had pancakes. It's not a homemade mix (I asked). They get the powder mix and add buttermilk. They were very thick and dense/cakey in texture. I prefer a lighter, fluffier pancake with crisp edges. However, The blueberry pancakes were loaded with berries and the coffee is good. Don't ask for crispy bacon, or they will bring you bacon that could crack a tooth. Second visit we ordered French toast. They make their own bread, so we thought it would be good. It wasn't. French toast SHOULD be thick cut bread, soaked in egg custard, then grilled. The pieces should feel heavy, and crisp on the outside, and creamy on the inside. These pieces probably started thick, but fell flat on the grill. There was a thin egg coating on the outside, and dry bread inside. Not tasty, no flavor. They have sandwiches and salads too, but we came here for breakfast. It's ok. The wait staff was very nice. If your looking for brunch so you're not hungry anymore, this place will be your best bet on town.
