I don't know why this place is just listed as a bar, it's got fantastic food. The other reviewers look like they stuck to sandwiches or the typical bar fare. Our first night here, I had the lobster stew, and we went back the very next night so I could have it again. My husband had stuffed pork chops, and they were incredible. We were enjoying the food so much, we decided to have desert, and it was a phenomenal homemade pie and we were glad we stretched our stomacks. Not to mention the local beer which is pretty good too. Atmosphere is college bar, but that made the discovery of the food that much more fun, and it beat the high end place down the street. Not much else in Waterville (unless you like Applebees), so don't miss it if you are in mid-state.

Out of most of the bars I probably like this the most at this time. Usually lots of people around, also I like the live bands during the week. They've had an actual blues band before which was nice. Pretty good food. It's pub food.... I don't expect gourmet....

My boyfriend and I were up in Maine and figured we'd take a chance on Mainely Brews one night for an easy dinner. After reading the reviews on Yelp and hearing the service can be slow/subpar, we decided to order to go (my boyfriend went in to pick up the order and even for that he said the girl took forever to get the order and ring him up). The first time I called the phone rang a good 30 times, so I eventually hung up. I called back shortly after and someone finally picked up. We placed an order for a lobster roll with regular fries and the chipotle turkey panini with sweet potato fries. I thought my sandwich was okay. It was tasty, mostly due to the bacon and the chipotle sauce when I bit into a portion of the sandwich with the sauce. This could be a personal preference, but I thought the sandwich needed more sauce to not taste so dry. The turkey was definitely dry but the bacon added some juice to the sandwich. I thought extra sauce would have made it better, but extra chipotle sauce would have been too much. A non-spicy cranberry sauce would have been delicious, but again, this is a personal preference. I paid a dollar extra for sweet potato fries, and was really annoyed that I got a meager portion of fries. I know they are more expensive, but if you are going to charge your customers for it, then serve a decent sized portion. My boyfriend got regular fries and easily got double the portion. He said his sandwich was okay. He has had much better lobster rolls and said the lobster was overcooked. When I placed the order I asked for lettuce and tomato for the lobster roll on the side, and they put it on the sandwich, so I was glad that they followed that request... In addition, all sandwiches supposedly come with cole slaw and neither of us got cole slaw. I will most likely not have the opportunity/option of eating here again, but if I did, I would not take it. I would say find a better place to eat if you really care about the quality of your food.

This a nice place because it is open later than a lot of the other options in town. An interesting beer list and a basic selection of pub food.

One of the reasons I LOVE being an alcohol spokesmodel is that it gets me to go to places I have never been and sometimes have never heard of. Mainely Brews is a perfect example. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this place. Waterville, Maine isn't exactly the hub of culinary delights or brewing scene. But I was really quite taken-aback at this little place. It was PACKED when we got there and PACKED when we left. And the patrons were all over the board: families, college kids and their parents, locals, businessman, etc. We ended up getting the vegetarian chili, and I have to admit: it was really, really good. I'm pretty hard to please, but this was the kind of chili you wanted to keep eating. It was good on the first bite when it was piping hot, it was just as good on the last bite when it was cold (my fault - I had to hustle some beer and left my chili on our table so I could run over and take a bite when I wanted to). There were veggies in it that I would never think to use in my own recipe. It was hearty and plentiful, it even came with tortilla chips. The only thing that I didn't particularly love about the ENTIRE experience was the cheese on the top of the chili (which never melted; and, to be honest, it would've been just as good without it anyway). If I was ever in the area, I absolutely would stop by here again because I know they've got food, as a strict vegetarian, that I could eat!

Always great food and service. Chefs keep menu interesting and seasonal, much like the beer selection. Great for families.

Ughhhhh worst food poisoning ever!!!! Had a burger there (cooked medium rare) and was sick for the rest of the week! It was the worst food experience of my life. Also the service is notoriously horrible at this place at night. All of the servers ignore you unless you are in their area. We had to ask every time we wanted a water or soda refill. We waited FOREVER to order our bacteria-laden burgers (with our menus closed on the table) and then another thousand years to get our check. We tried to facilitate paying by walking up to the bar to have them swipe our card immediately, but that just pissed off the server. Not sure why, given what a terrible job she had done to this point. Hey, we were just trying to make her job easier. Never going back.

i give this place a five, not because I haven't been to better pubs in the world, but because it's by far the best in town. It's not trashy or uncomfortable, the keep the irish pub class, and serve fantastic food. great environment, great staff, and really great local and imported brew!

went there on a monday and sat at bar. cool place inside. nice beer selection. the service was awful. i just don't understand why. not that busy. seems like they cater more to locals than anyone.

Driving aimlessly around mid-Maine and this looked good. Good beer - I had a Red and a blueberry (with blueberries floating in it). Pretty cool space in an old post office. Wait staff was very good. Food: I had the steak salad which was cooked perfectly medium rare - very nice. My wife had the chicken salad roll-up. Pretty bland. Fries were seasoned and very good. If you like brew pubs, this is a nice one. Good beer, pretty good food, cool spot with music.

Why is this place just listed as a bar? The food here is amazing. I had their lobster stew the first time I went, and I returned the next night to have it again. My husband had a stuffed pork chop that was incredible, and we thought it was all so good, we ordered dessert-homemade pie that could not be beat. The atmosphere is distinctly college bar, but that made the food such a surprise-it was better than the upscale joint down the street. Handcrafted beers are a plus as well, I think it's a gem worth finding in Waterville, and yes, you won't find much else!

Had relatives up for vacation and wanted casual pub style atmosphere to hang out, and Mainely Brews did the trick! We had a group of 10, got a huge corner booth with handmade wood table (the waitress said made by her brother in law!) Service was great! Had a bunch of apps to share, i had the beer sampler of their own brews!

I can't belive I havent left a review sooner. I have been so many times. I love the fact they make their own brews, as well as offer a good variety of others. The headstash ale is a refreshing peach beer that I can't get enough of. The jolly rancher shots are also a fun treat. They also have pool tables and live bands to enjoy. The chipotle turkey panini is always a win, with a spicy and sweet chipotle and cranberry sauce. The shanghai burger is excellent, with teryaki sauce and carmelized onions, served a a fresh grilled bun. They have the best french fries, ever! The outsides are crispy and inside bursintg with soft potatoe. I think I need a mainely' fix soon.

Came to Mainely's for the first time this weekend and really enjoyed it. This is very much a neighborhood bar, so if you're looking for a taste of Waterville, this is the place. There's a long bar, seating area, and dance floor. When we went there was a live band playing which was a lot of fun! They've got a decent beer selection and the food is pretty good. We ordered the mozzarella balls and the fried calamari and both were fresh and tasty. And the service is great. Will be back on my next Maine trip!

I have been a regular customer here. But my most recent experience was pretty bad. I ordered a beer and a lobster roll - pretty simple, right? Then I waited for ~15 minutes, and...the wrong order was put in front of me. OK, mistakes happen, but the response was bad. A lame "oh, sorry," then I had to wait another 20 minutes. They had given my order to another table. So why not comp me the beer, or a free dessert, or the manager comes over to apologize? It's all good. I'm sure I can find a beer and lobster roll somewhere else.

Much below our expectations based on reviews here. Service is very slow, and not attentive. Not many good choices, food was ok right up there with Applebee's and 99. Asked waitress for commendation- she recommended pulled pork sandwich.., so i guess lobster roll that everyone raves about here is not good enough to be mentioned. Beer selection is poor for being a "brewery". I regret spending my time and money there.

If you are just looking for a place to have some drinks, this place is great. Understand a few things: You will NOT be able to hold a conversation without screaming, so it is a great place to take the wfe. You will be screaming at each other and it will feel like home, plus no one will call the police. The food is so-so, but hey, is that really why you are here?? The drink prices are fair, and the place has outdoor seating for us non-screamers. Give it a try.

I had the best lobster roll here in my life. Delicious food with good price. The beer is nice too!

sad to say this place has gone downhill. The food quality is inconsistent, bathrooms are way subpar, went just last night sat down at a table and waited and waited and waited after 20 minutes finally left. was is in plain sight of the bar yet no one came over to ask for my order.

  • Swivelneck D.

Good service. Good lobster roll in terms of taste but the proportions were all wrong. I guess other people had a better experience, but my lobster roll had way too much bread for how much lobster they put in it.

I pretty much only go here on Monday evenings for their open mic night. I've only eaten there a few times, and all I've gotten is their philly cheese steak. It's SO good. I don't even like philly cheese steaks, but theirs is delicious. And the fries are fantastic. They have pretty large selection of beers, too (I mean, they better with the name Mainely Brews). I've shared with some of my friends and had some salad and nachos, which were both pretty good. They have quite the selection of food on their menu, so they can cater to pretty much anything you're in the mood for. The atmosphere is nice, too.

Great selection of beers. Had the best Lobster Roll I've had in Waterville since I've been here. Very fun atmosphere. We played trivia and had a kereoke night. All and all good experience. I would say go here for a lobster roll.

We like this place pretty well. It's got a very nice beer selection and some excellent food. The service is also good. They also have events pretty frequently. Trivia, karaoke, bands, etc. So any night you happen to show up, something like that might be going on. The only consistent negative is that it can get very crowded. There can be a wait to get a table, and it can get very noisy and chaotic in there at times. So if you want to go for just a mellow evening, check ahead of time to make sure there isn't something going on that night. There was one distressing incident. The specials board said "Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese." So (if you've read my other reviews, you know how I am about mac & cheese) I just ordered it. I didn't need to see the menu (which I'd seen before a couple of times) to know that I wanted the smoked gouda mac & cheese. Well, when it came to the table, it had something on top of it. I wasn't really paying attention. It happened to be a night when trivia was happening, and the Meat-Lover and I were trying to play the trivia game (just the two of us -- and yes, of course we didn't win, but it was definitely a fun place for trivia). So I was distracted. It was as the first bite of chicken was going down my throat that I thought to stop and wonder what I was eating, even as the nauseating realization struck me that the thing sliding down my throat right now was probably chicken. Not having eaten chicken for nearly 30 years, I couldn't say for certain that it was chicken, but the waitress was walking by and so I just asked her about it. It was chicken. Of course. She told me that on the Specials insert in the menu, it did mention the chicken. I told her I'd just ordered it off the specials board. Well, I certainly learned my lesson. Don't just order off a specials board. There are probably specials boards out there that say "mac & cheese" and it comes with bacon in it. I can't just trust that things are vegetarian. One heartfelt request, though, for this and all restaurants: I know there's not always much space on the Specials board, but please, for others who may have a moment of naiveté such as mine, just mention the meat when it's on a dish that doesn't sound like it's going to have meat. To write "w/chicken" doesn't take much space and could spare people having an unpleasant experience. I know it was kind of my own fault for just assuming the mac & cheese was vegetarian, but it still could so easily have been avoided. They DID, by the way, apologize and take it off the bill and bring me a new one without chicken. As I said, the service is good! Anyway, I definitely do recommend this place. In Yelp terms: "Yay! I'm a fan."

I am only giving it four stars because I can not speak on the food or the staff. We went late on a Saturday night to hear some live music and had a blast! The music was clear and there is plenty of room on the dance floor. The added bonus was that the drinks are really inexpensive!

Fun place for this area. I have had a hard time finding bars in this area, and loved this one. I loved the crowd and atmosphere. I had a couple of blueberry beers which were perfect with some decent nachos. I'll check this place out again.

Not exactly busy, just a rainy and slow off-season Sunday. Yet, it still took 45 minutes to get simple pub food, slightly above average sized party of 4 adults and 2 small children. Once the meal was received, which was good, but absolutely zero drink refills over an hour period were had despite flagging of both the main waitress who took our order and the second who actually brought the food. We were never checked in on after our food was delivered except 30 minute after all plates were cleaned to ask if we wanted a check. At first I felt bad thinking the waitresses were understaffed, but I quickly realized they were just poorly trained or failed to care after paying some attention as to exactly wtf else they were doing. Damn shame too as this would otherwise be a revisit given the price and quantity/quality of the food and brew selection. I know it wasn't a one-off bad shift as our friends who brought us who live in the area said it was a known caveat.

I liked this place - actually a lot. The review is probably really 3.5 stars. It's in an old post office and it's all wood with exposed brick on the inside with tons of flowers and available outdoor seating on a patio. Service is friendly although sometimes slightly spacey. We asked them to put the US Open on a tv and they obliged quickly - although it took them some time to find CBS...but anyway. I tried to order Da Blueberry beer but the tap was broken so I got the "meh" two cents IPA. Not as hoppy as I'd like but decent. We ordered the crab dip which was excellent - creamy and hot served with a very warm sliced baguette. Then we ordered two lobster rolls which came with fries and coleslaw. The rolls were large and fresh and the lobster was equally fresh and chunky - no skimping whatsoever. However there just wasn't any flavor to the lobster roll - I needed salt and pepper and to slather on the coleslaw and still it was pretty bland...yet fresh. In addition there was probably too much roll. The fries were very crisp but the oil hadnt been drained enough so they were glistening. None the less this place is definitely worth trying and I'm sure it's fun when the taps are working and they have one of their live music nights.

Mainely's has a great menu, extensive local beer selection, and a warm and inviting atmosphere. The wait staff is always friendly and accommodating, and they have special nights with live music or karaoke throughout the week. The food is the Maine (lol) reason I keep coming back. Their menu has so many great choices and there are so many unique food combinations, which is awesome. I've had great burgers here - which are always cooked and flavored perfectly. Can't remember the exact combination, but whatever burger has Gouda on top is delicious. The sweet potato fries are tasty, too.

This was our family's first trip to Maine and we were looking for lobster rolls - this place had a decent one. It was big, definitely could split it between two people, and pretty reasonably priced but it was all claw meat and just OK. Good beer selection, fries, and a friendly wait staff.

  • Jon M.

Great beer selection & good burgers (Tuesday nights are $6 burger nights). Service is usually ok, but today I waited 20-25 minutes for wings (the only thing I ordered and with only 6 other customers in the joint). Seeing the usual reviews for this place, which is average, you would think they would try to improve overall. Having ok food will only take you so far. Hit or miss!

Good food good beer. Worth the trip! Friendly wait staff and a wide menu. I ordered salmon and was wondering if venturing out of the burger realm was wise. It was! Nicely done!

Great selection of beer. Good service. Samantha did a great job. Food was below average. Haddock sandwich was overcooked. Vegetables were mushy.

  • Viola S.

The beer list is fresh and extensive and includes their own really good microbrews. Their lobster stew was awesome. The staff was friendly and we had good service. An added bonus is that it's in a neat old post office building that adds atmosphere.

One of our regular stops great high-end pub fair. Try the drink that's named after my brother #ron currie jr. Great beer great food and live entertainment some nights. Give it a try you'll like it.

Great menu, great food and super variety of local beer, an experience that makes repeat customers. You can't beat the burger and pizza night. The local brews are top notch and the tab is easy on the budget minded. If you want to dine and drink somewhere that you'll want to come back to again and again, then go to Mainely Brews.

  • Joel S.

Mainely Brews is a pleasant brew pub in Waterville. It's just what you would expect it to be- generic brewpub decorations and an active bar, staffed by a bevy of friendly young tattooed waitresses. The wine by the glass was better than expected. The beer was good- the Baxter IPA was nice and hoppy. We ordered an assortment of appetizers and a burger. The burger was well received. The onion rings, chicken tenders and fried breaded mushrooms were good. The quesidilla was so so. The chicken wings were disappointing, but I am really particular about them, having gone to college in Buffalo. Prices were inexpensive. This is a solid, fun, no surprises place to grab a comfort food lunch or dinner- to the restaurant's credit, there is a page of healthy food and drinks in the menu. I doubt that it gets much attention, though.

  • Annie R.

Ok so in terms of Waterville and bars, this is the only legitimate one. It actually has a bar, there is exposed brick, a patio, and strong drinks. Totally decent and almost like a bar in a real city. They do a lot of open mic nights/host bands etc. Worth checking out if you want to grab a drink in Waterville Maine.

  • Maureen R.

Had a nice lunch here. Great selection of microbrews from black bear, delicious haddock sandwich encrusted in coconut, and lobster roll on an airy baguette. Service was good without being overbearing. We will definitely return.
