Adequate Mexican food, as long as you've never left Maine, and a pleasant staff, but certainly not compelling enough for the 45-minute waits on Friday or Saturday nights -- and now they don't do take-out. Have I experienced better? Yeah -- in any hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant in Texas, New Mexico, or Southern California. So long, Buen Apetito.

Such an odd little place, Buen Apetito. Looking for some Mexican food on a random Saturday afternoon, we stumbled upon this place, walking first into the movie theater next door before realizing the entrance was around the corner. The first thing that struck me was the chips and salsa already laid out on all the tables. My first thought: "Oh great, stale chips..." but after sitting down, I realized I had jumped the gun. The salsa options (one tomato based; one avocado based) and the chips were nice and crunchy. Perfecto! I ordered black beans and seasoned rice while my compatriot chose the chiles rellenos. I found the beans and rice combo to be simple and delicious and the seasoning was great! One thing to note, which is definitely by no means a fault (in fact, this could be fantastic when sharing dishes), is that the serving size for the meals is gigantic. The plate of chiles rellenos was massive and could have easily served 2 people comfortably. All told, this was a great little place that I'd be happy to patronize again! Drooling just thinking about those beans... :)

Food was less than sub-par, I ordered the shredded beef tacos....bad choice. The meat was flavorless, the corn tortillas were wet and soggy, I couldn't even pick the taco up without everything falling out of the bottom. There was way too much lettuce on top and the tomatoes were old. I had two bites and refused to finish because it was so bad. Pushed my full plate of food to the end of the table and of the three different servers that came over no one asked what was wrong. My check was not comped even though I didn't want a box and left a full meal there to be thrown away. I understand this is Maine and not Central America but the food is a far cry from being " Mexican" cuisine. I will never visit this establishment again and I suggest you do the same.

Great atmosphere, great margaritas (pitchers), my favorite BBQ sauce. Try ordering a large pulled pork nacho for dinner for 2. It's the best!

Excellent atmosphere inside and out. Fair food, quite pricey for this area. Be ready to wait for service and wait for your food. All in all, it's ok, and a nice little place to pick up dinner and a movie!

Best Mexican food around! The setting inside is cozy and quaint but once you sit down and enjoy your dining experience it doesn't matter if you're in a jam-packed room or not. The waiting area is a bit cramped but the service is quick so you usually don't have to wait for more than 20 minutes or so on a busy night. Chips and salsa are free and the margaritas are pretty darn good (and strong). They also make some homemade sauces to go with chips that are really good. I usually have the chicken quesadilla and it's enough for dinner and lunch the next day. My kids can always find something that they like, and my son had the guacamole burger the last time he went (minus the guacamole) and the people at the next table commented on how good it looked! He loved it and could only eat half of it because it was so big. The wait staff is always nice and helpful - you can't go wrong if you decide to give this place a try. Prices are great, portions are huge, food is excellent!

Still among the very best area restaurants, even with a half hour wait early Friday evening. Maine-Mexican food at its best, the baked Chille Rellenos are better the second time with cheese or beef. I've never seen these any where before other than fried and I have to reiterate- try the rellenos. Salsa, service, food always 4-5 star experience even when your are sitting next to door that constantly opens and it's below 0 outside. Buen Apetito is adding an addition to double it's size. I hope the quality doesn't change, I'll be back when it's finished.....

Hands down the best Mexican in town. Really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Fajitas rock, the chinos rock, the nachos rock, and the margaritas rock.

Great Mexican food. Great atmosphere. Love everything about this place. Drinks are always good. Pulled pork is an awesome option for the traditional Mexican dishes. I have been here a few times and have always left full and happy.

This resto is attached to what appears to be an indie-type movie theater. The space is small and looks nice. I was looking for a vegetarian burrito, but it wasn't on the menu, so I payed the extra for a meat burrito, but without the meat (a vegetarian pet-peeve). They also use lard in their refried beans, so have them swap them out for their black beans, which are pretty good (a touch on the salty side, but good nonetheless). They only have Cuervo Gold as an option for tequila and their margaritas are over $10 FOR A WELL MARGARITA IN EAST B.F.E MAINE!!!! (Just looked at their website and it says its $6.50, so it looks like I was charged more which is disappointing). Margarita melt-down aside, the food was good and I'd probably go back, but I'll be a bit more vigilant with the prices. Grrr.

This restaurant is simply amazing. Great indoor/outdoor space, fresh food, and attentive service. Easily beats any Mexican restaurant in the greater Portland area. This is a must try for anyone in Maine. Not to mention, the margarita's were spot on and made from scratch. Even better: you don't need to order 3 of them to realize they are made with alcohol. I would gladly drive well out of my way to experience this restaurant again.

So good!!!! Of course not authentic Mexican in the California taco-stand kind of way, but this place is really good! Margaritas are really tasty. You must try a flavored margarita (blueberry if it's the season) or the sangria (goes down too easily). Chips and salsa are free. They have a ton of different salsas, all very good. Be careful or you WILL fill up on chips and salsa before you even order entrees! All of the entrees I've had here are good. My main go-to is the fajitas, either chicken or steak. My boyfriend always gets the rib-eye, which is always cooked perfectly (medium-rare for us) and is a huge portion. Others worth trying are the chimichangas and the chicken curry burrito (if you are in for something fusion-y). The only things I didn't love were the nachos (covered in iceberg lettuce) or the pulled pork tostada (BBQ sauce is NOT Mexican!). Also try the Mexican chocolate dessert - yummmmmm.

Wonderful Margaritas! Made fresh, from scratch. No mix! Great food, although pricey and kind of a small menu. Nachos come with shredded beef, not hamburger. Their chorizo is wonderful, fresh made there. Only complaint is that, for "authentic Mexican," you don't see any!

Tasty free chips and salsa... The avocado kind was a treat! Very reasonably priced large entrees with a large selection of vegetarian options. I recommend the potato flautas. Easily one of the best restaurants in Waterville.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
