Ahh, the Corsican. Always friendly, always unexpected- the ginger bread was served fresh from the oven, not reheated and with fresh cream. Vegetarian options galore, awesome french onion soup. Best time is the off season although not too many folks walk that far from the Bean so get a table upstairs and grab a ginger brew. They even come around with fresh samples from the oven to try. oh my yum.

Really excellent clam/fish chowder, and a lovely just plain clam chowder as well. Unpretentious, almost "tearoom" setting. Hot roast beef and cheese sandwich was good, but not as exceptional as the chowders. Great easy place to eat in Freeport.

After walking around Freeport for a spell my friend thoughtfully found this little place, which seemed to offer several vegetarian-friendly options. We walked in and were instantly taken-aback at how very, very small it was. Small enough that when we walked in, every single patron stopped talking and looked at us (ISTHERESOMETHINGONMAHFACE?!). It was a little awkward. The food was alright, nothing special, kinda bland and unmemorable, really. Nothing I would go back for. My friend's buffalo chicken wrap had barely any buffalo chicken. It was mostly wrap. And my lentil burger fell apart more and more with every bite I took (definitely not a good choice when trying to catch-up with someone you haven't seen in a while). If you're looking for something cheap, quick, and light - stop here, maybe you'll enjoy it. But if you're foodie, or enjoy the experience of dining out, there are far more interesting (and memorable) places in Freeport to dine.

I had lunch here with my grandmother yesterday and the food was delicious. She had a lobster roll with clam chowder and I had a lentil burger. We ended up taking another lobster roll home with us. The ingredients are top notch and the prices are very reasonable. I actually waited tables here for a few years back around 2001, and it was great then, but I think the food has gotten even better.

In a pinch, sure. Otherwise, hold off for food somewhere else. I think it is a quaint place and has a family feel to it but the food is lacking and not as cheap as I think it should be. The salad was bland, bread was not good. Again, if you are starving then it's fine. Also, very, very, kid friendly which is great with a toddler.

My wife and I had lunch here while on a day trip to Freeport, and we've become fans of the place. We'll definitely eat here again on our next trip! The restaurant is small and simple. The wait staff are very attentive, the food is very good, and the prices are very reasonable. My wife says their Clam Chowder is the best in the area (and she tries it everywhere) and she said her fish entree was very well done. I had the bean soup, which was excellent. For dessert I had a really good slice of homemade blueberry pie. Highly recommended!

What a lovely little place! As a gluten free customer I was tickled to find a very unique and complex menu that fits my pallet and health needs. From outstanding clam chowder to the best GF pizza I have had to date, this place delivered mouth watering bite after bite! Although it's seating/decor is out dated, the food and friendly waitstaff proved to be memorizing. Check them out....you won't be disappointed!

We stopped here on our way through to Canada. The weather was perfect so we opted for the outside patio. (Seating inside was limited) I had the avocado salad with the upgrade of lobster. The first impression was a beautiful plate, however I was wondering if I needed more!! I was wrong- the greens were crisp and flavorful with enough vegetables to fill me up. The staff were all prompt and friendly. I would recommend here to those tired of the chain restaurants and average food!

Great pesto pizza: star reviews by a traditional pizza consumer! Gluten free options were numerous including awesome garlic bread, lobster roll, and a housemade brownie. Enthused waiter and extremely pleasant setting. Highly recommend.

Had the BEST bowl of Haddock and Clam Chowder today at The Corsican Cafe and Chowder House. It was loaded with a huge amount of seafood in a wonderful tasting broth, and served piping hot. The 3 of us that ordered it all gave it 5 stars! Don't bother getting a cup....go with the bowl because it's that delicious. Our server, Tom, was great....friendly and quick with our service. Can't wait to get back to Freeport for another bowl!

Great family run small restaurant. They seem to have a wide range of items on the menu so everyone in your party should find something that appeals to them. Located on a small one way street, it can be hard to find; we drove by it twice! Better signage is recommended ! It is in a old house and the downstairs dining is pretty cozy; unless the upstairs is much roomier, not sure I'd recommend to a large party. The service is pleasant & helpful. The food is very good & generous in portions.

AWFUL!! My husband's burger made McDonald's look like gourmet grass fed beef. Run away. !!!

The horrendous traffic coming to Freeport from Worchester resulted in two cars full of hungry and weary occupants. The three-hour trip to Freeport had been closer to 4.5, and before we could consider the Bean, food was on tap. An overtly friendly Info Keiosk employee named Susanne recommended the Corsican, based on the four "we've been cooped up in cars waayy too long" boys that were part of our party, and the fact that the Corsican had outdoor patio seating. Jackpot. A quick scan and approval of the menu landed our party in the patio area...4 boys aged 6 through 12 at one table- dead in the middle of the patio, offering equal disturbance to all other patrons- with our hopes that the 4 parents and the grandmother could dine with relatively few scalding glances...or, the hopes that nobody would realize that they were our kids. After a few other tables left...hopefully not due to our traveling circus... The waitress was excellent, not only providing quick and efficient service, but also humoring our table of mini-patrons. Food, upon arrival, was solid...three of us enjoyed the lobster melt (lots of meat!), and the accompanying cup of clam chowder was likewise good. Other orders of salmon sandwich and my sister's something healthy sandwich were all consumed without argument. The meal was capped off with the shot-sized root-beer float freebies. Highlight of the meal was the laugh we had when our youngest son asked to have a container for the quarter-sized piece of PB&J sandwich he hadn't eaten, and the waitress brought out a salad-dressing side container with a lid for him. He was so proud to have his own container! Food snobs, grumble as you will for 90% of your reviews. This establishment serves a square meal, and sports a friendly staff. Perfect place for some peace and quiet (unless we are there) in an otherwise chaotic, frenzied Freeport.

A very mediocre Freeport restaurant. First off we had the garlic bread basket, which was just a sub roll sliced in half with melted butter and a couple pepper flakes. I had the burrito with refried beans and black beans and cheese, it was just very average. Chipotle or Moe's is a whole lot better and cheaper. It did not come with any side except avacado. Had diet cokes from the tap with ice and got refills, but was never told there were no free refills, so we got charged $10. just for diet cokes. Waitress never told us there were no free refills, as in most restaurants. RIP OFF!!!!! Turkey sandwich was good with dill bread and a lot of turkey. The sandwich came with chips that looked like they were from the bottom of the bag. Restaurant is cute and quaint, but like an old fashioned tea room. It is in an old home, kinda like grandma's. If you want average food and overpriced drinks in grandma's home, go here.

This is a cute little place, not much of a waiting area to say the least, so if its packed and there is a wait, you'll be cramped in. The staff is super nice and the food was pretty damn good. I got a scallop dish and it was good, but the spanish rice with it was odd and didn't go with it and the vegetables were bland. The fish chowder was some of the best I have ever had. The chunks of fish were unreal. I don't have notes on the rest of the meal. Somehow after the first half of the bottle of wine, I stopped taking notes. Go figure. This place isn't fancy, but its good, solid food and worth trying, esp since they have bottles of wine and you can take what you don't finish with you.

My experience was decent at the Corsican. I will start off by saying the service was great! I had a burger, it was okay, but not something I would go back for. My family all had the chowder and lobster rolls. They said they were good. The décor was kind of outdated.

  • Roxy N.

Best lobster roll ever! The lobster was fresh, the portion was very generous and the roll was not the typical hot dog roll but a real lobster roll. We also had the strawberry short cake for dessert...freshly baked biscuits, freshly picked strawberries and ice cream to go along with it. I can't wait for the next time I'm in Freeport so I can come eat here again.

Kid friendly, delicious home-style food, reasonable prices, one of the best places to eat lunch/dinner in Freeport!

Love their blueberry pie!! Not a fan of their cappuccino though. Rated them only three stars because all I had from there was their pie and their coffee. But the blueberry preserves I bought from them were pretty good as well.

Came here after shopping at LL Bean looking for some comfort food. I saw the pasta and meat balls on the menu and we decided to give it a try. I asked for the pasta with meatballs but minus the cheese as I'm lactose intolerant. Our very nice waiter asked if it mattered that there was cheese in the meatballs. I asked, "what kind and how much?" He replied, "I don't know but let me go check the box." (blank stare as I contemplate meatballs from a box) We are from Ca and lesson learned. Portland is a foodie place but Freeport maybe not so much. We both ended up ordering fish and were disappointed with our dishes. The veggies were obviously frozen and I bet the fish was too. Everything was bland. Don't go here if you want an authentic Italian meal.

So disappointing, I should have known by the old smell and gramma decor when you first walk in. Its not charming, its just sad. I now know why the main street restaurants were packed. Even the basic foods here were crap; clam chowder was really potato soup; the Meatlover's pizza was clearly a frozen, microwavable pizza. Worst of all, my Mochachino was sugar water. No whip cream. It tasted like tea and instant coffee. I took two sips and admitted defeat. If I had known this place before, I would've rather starve for 40 minutes waiting for a table at Mrs. Bean's Restaurant.

I felt like I walked into my grandmother's house when I walked into the Corsican. The downstairs dinning room was small and "homey". Very friendly and attentive staff. I had the grilled scallops and my wife had the Maines salmon. Both meals were delicious. The blueberry pie and ice cream was the best I had in a long time.

Visited this restaurant and have to say it was really disappointing which was surprising after reading some good reviews. We went for lunch and and we were seated at a table rather quickly. The host was also our sever. He appeared to be the only server during this visit. Despite this he was efficient and friendly. When it came time to order a few in our group ordered turkey soup to start. It consisted mostly of a bland broth, many chunks of carrots and few pieces of turkey. They should of opened a can of store bought soup. It would have been better. After that experience everyone was skeptical of the food and ordered sandwiches. None were very excited and rather bland. We had other choices that day and made a mistake going here. Maybe their regular cook didn't show up that day. What a disappointment.

Extraordinary food and service. I am usually critical but this place is an island in a land of outlet mediocrity. Pleasantly surprised......creative and unusual food.

Lice little quant place. A couple walked in when I was there clearly not happy with prices Salad was 11 good quality not a lot brother and father had meatball subs 8 each. After 3 desserts 6 each two cups of coffee and drinks. Around 100 but lunch was paid by father. Expensive but worth it for nice little place to take a nice lady. Other then a date through I mutt go elsewhere. Conclusion_Go here for a date and go all out worth it.

Freeport is a company town, and L.L. Bean is the company. On a recent trip I resisted going to Bean's restaurant for my last lobster roll before leaving Maine. At the entrance to the outlet store mall, someone was handing out menus for the Corsican Restaurant. I decided to try it. The restaurant is comfortable and attractive, and I like the second floor a bit better than the first. I ordered the clam chowder/lobster roll combo. The chowder was chock full of potatoes and clams in a medium-bodied, milky broth. It was good. The lobster roll was a big disappointment. The bun was oversized. That would have been fine if had been stuffed full with lobster, but the bottom half of it was filled with a large folded leaf of lettuce. In a single layer on top of the lettuce was the lobster. The lobster was fine in itself, but it was simply not enough to satisfy me. There was much too much bread and lettuce (really, there shouldn't be any lettuce at all) for the modicum of lobster. The hand-out menu had promised a free taste of ginger bread, so I sampled that for dessert. The ginger bread was strong with dark molasses, and I liked it very much. So there is talent in this kitchen, but that chintzy lobster roll really got my goat. So much bread and lettuce, so little lobster. It put me in a grouchy mood all the way back to Connecticut.

There aren't a ton of places to choose from in Freeport and this restaurant was ok. The wait staff was really friendly and prompt. There were lots of things to choose from on the menu -- mostly sandwiches and pizza. And, the restaurant is in a neat building, it looks like it may have been a house at one point. I had a wrap sandwich and it was ok, not amazing.

My husband and I stopped in freeport on our way to bar harbor over Columbus day weekend. We just wandered around town shopping and then decided to try this place for lunch. The service was fairly quick and our waitress was very nice and friendly. My husband had the crab melt which was nothing special but still tasty. I had the soup of the day, Hungarian mushroom. It was really quite delicious. The best part of the whole meal though was without a doubt the bread! I don't know what was in it but it was fantastic. Warm and uniquely flavored. I wish I had gotten some of it to go. Not a bad place for a quick little affordable lunch in the area.

We took a day trip up to Freeport to do some Christmas shopping at the outlets. By the time we got there, it was around noon. We were getting hungry, but were so excited to shop that we shopped for about an hour and a half before finding a restaurant. We picked up a few menus on the main road as we were walking around and chose between those based on what we wanted to eat. Being that this was my boyfriend's first time in Maine, we chose the restaurant that was the most reasonably priced and had some kind of seafood soup. We found the restaurant and it was so cute. A cute little restaurant that was quiet (lunch time on a tuesday isn't the most popular in freeport). We each ordered a cup of haddock and clam chowder. While it wasn't the best chowder I've had, it was definitely solid and perfect since it was so cold and we had been walking around outside for a while. We then ordered a lobster pizza that also had mushrooms and cheese. While the crust wasn't great, it was an ok pizza and had delicious lobster on it. If we were in Freeport again, we'd probably want to try a different place, but this place was a good experience with good service.

I've made occasional stops at The Corsican since the early 90's, and have always had good experiences. Some might find it touristy, but I'm a fan of the simple homelike decor. The staff has always been friendly and my last visit was no different. Seafood chowders and rolls are fresh, tasty and offer very copious amounts of the good stuff. YUM. A quaint and satisfying getaway from the shopping madness that can surround.

I went there to eat with my family which includes a strict vegetarian or two. This place was suggested as a local place to get reasonably priced vegetarian entrees in a tourist town rife with seafood. As for as the variety of entrees, there are vegetarian sandwiches, vegetarian pizza, and a vegetarian burrito, as well as the standard salads and a pasta dish or two. No vegan dishes that I saw. As for the quality of the entrees, it's mediocre. But they get points for trying which is why they garnered 4 stars. The decor is nothing great (think vinyl tablecloths), but the service was gracious. The place got packed around 1 pm when all the outlet workers started to take lunch and a que formed that was several parties deep. The culprit: small tables (only one seated more than 4 people) and not enough of them. To bad they don't take reservations, because there isn't much of a place to wait (no bar, no lobby)...so be prepared to stand. We had kids with us, but they were the only ones in the restaurant and the restaurant didn't have booster seats, so I really don't think this is a great place for kids. That said, no one yelled at my nieces for being out of their seats and the management kept the dirty looks to themselves. Bottom line: the food's not great, but it's edible and it comes in a large variety which is a plus.

Looking at the other review I came here with a open mind and expecting a fair experience. My first impression was a very small simple place off of the main roas. First my side salad had fresh spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, and very nice red vingerette. My main coarse was the Lobster and Scallops Aloli. Large porton, fresh and hot. pasta was a little over cooked but more than exceptable. Service was good, and the prices was very fair

Really solid restaurant in, as someone else mentioned, a town without a lot of options! One block off the main shopping area. Comprehensive kids menu and a gluten-free menu. Gluten -free garlic bread isn't worth it, but the GF pizza was great! Wait staff was very friendly and helpful!

  • Omar E.

I was not impressed with this place. I tried a few different things on the menu. A couple of pasta dishes and some seafood. It's not bad, but it's one of those places where the food looks really good on the menu, then when you actually eat it you say "Eh...it's okay". For the money you can do better. I wil say, however that the service was quite friendly and really the food was slightly above average. But I feel a restaurant that has Napoleon Bonaparte as its logo should be held to a higher standard. The man who conquered Europe would've wanted it that way.

Just down the hill from L.L. Bean, this place might be called something of a tourist trap. The food was okay. My friend had the clam chowder and said it was fine but that he wouldn't have ordered it if he had known its quality. Service was friendly enough, but a little unhelpful. The big thing that stood out for me was their inflexibility with the menu. I have some food allergies, and they were unwilling to substitute rice for the pasta in the pasta dishes (a good portion of the menu)--and this is despite the fact that they include rice in the burrito they offer! (Maybe they're trying to be as imperious as the Emperor himself?) I ended up with the lobster-avocado salad (couldn't eat the mayo in the crab salad they served) and it was okay, nothing remarkable.

I have used Yelp for years and usually only review if something is very good or very bad. We ordered takeout and the food was terrible. The greek salad (which was $10 for a large) was the worst salad I have had in a very long time! The tomatoes tasted old and were very mealy. The dressing had no taste. We also ordered two pizzas which were 10" and small for the price. They were both awful! The corsican pizza was supposed to have caramelized onions but they weren't caramelized and the other pizza we ordered was missing our pepperoni. They had a slightly thicker crust and seem reminiscent of cafeteria food. Very disappointed and won't be back!

This place was recommended to my family and me by a local. I'm pretty sure it's a house-turned-restaurant. I ordered the lobster pizza, and I thought it was delicious. There were even chunks of garlic that lingered in my breath for a while. My mother ordered the Mediterranean stew, and she was totally getting a kick out of the fact that every spoonful was chock full of seafood. My other family members enjoyed their food as well--clam chowder, lobster roll, fillet of fish (sorry, can't remember which fish). I highly recommend, especially for anyone that shopped all day in the nearby stores and outlets and needs refueling.

Love this place! We always stop on our way home or some delicious lobster. We just stopped this memorial day weekend. Two of us got the lobster salad & two got the lobster roll & chowder special. The food came quick and they even gave us some dill rolls with butter. The best thing about how they serve their lobster is that they use only claw meat! That is my favorite part. Definitely a MUST stop when in Freeport!

Columbus Day 2011 My vegetarian friend and I read the menu outside the restaurant. We found for her a delicious hummus wrap and a creamy haddock fish stew for me for lunch. We topped the meal off with blueberry pie and ice cream, the best blueberry pie we have ever had! The staff was friendly and delivered our food efficiently. It was an amazing gem of a place that will not disappoint.

After you've spent your half day or whatever strolling through L.L. Bean's wonderful flagship store, we'd suggest you take a short walk around the corner for a lunch (or dinner) at The Corsican restaurant. It's in a two-story residence-like structure just off Freeport's main street, and it's a delightful respite from shopping. We were there for lunch and ordered the clam chowder and lobster roll, We liked the chowder -- slightly chewy clams, lots of potatoes and a very rich, creamy flavor -- and the lobster, which came in a large, easy-to-handle roll that pretty much managed to keep the meat inside until we ate it. The meat was big and chunky and moist, tasting right off the boat. After a week in Maine consuming clam chowder and lobster in near-records amounts, we'd rate it highly. We liked the service -- our waiter neatly divided the roll when we said we wanted to split the order even though we didn't request it -- and the prices were reasonable ($16.95 for the chowder and roll). They have lots of sandwiches and salads and some terrific sounding desserts (chocolate raspberry bash, chocolate peanut butter pie, etc.) which we didn't sample, only wished for. We were alerted to the restaurant by a young man who was handing out me us in front of Bean's store -- clever marketing!

We stopped here for lunch after visiting LL Bean. It is just up the street and was recommended by one of the store employees. We each had a cup of soup. Mine was clam and haddock chowder and my husband had clam chowder. The soups were fantastic. They appeared a little thin upon arrival but they tasted great and mine was filled with fish. We decided to split a salad with lobster on it. It was huge, certainly big enough to share. The place is very small but the service is great. We couldn't resist the warm gingerbread for dessert.

I'm a big fan of the lobster roll, but have had my fair share of mediocre versions. Sometimes too much mayo, many restaurants have used canned lobster (wtf) and I've heard rumors of places using imitation crab meat as a passing roll. BLASPHEMY. Located in the outlet shopping mecca of Maine, this restaurant is pricey but worth it. One of the best lobster rolls ever - so much that I may never order anything else on the menu :)

    (4)
  • Lisa W.

Food is mediocre, at best. Crabmeat very bland. I do not believe it is fresh Maine crabmeat. BEWARE if you have a benefits card from MPBN. This restaurant refused to honor it.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
