Diabetics at Pizza Hut
Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.
Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:
You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.
Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

High Cholesterol at Pizza Hut
Whether large, medium or small, a pizza can boost your cholesterol levels instantly. You shouldn't eat more than one slice of any pizza your order at Pizza Hut. If you're concerned with your high cholesterol, then it is wise to take your friends to Pizza Hut and share pizza among them slice by slice. You can also try pasta at Pizza Hut but ensure that you are not adding any dressing or extra cheese as you order pasta.

Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I will admit, I am not a native of Biddeford. However, I heard so much about this pizza that I figured we had to try it. I was less than impressed. These small pizzas are just ok, with a very sharp tasting sauce and cheese that simply did not taste like any combination of cheese I have ever had on a pizza that I enjoyed. The other ingredients were just ok. I think this is the kind of pizza that you love if it is what you are used to, but to an outsider, this isn't anything to write home about. To be honest, I would just as rather buy a celeste pizza from the grocery as get Alex's Pizza.

Okay...Let me try and explain the wonder of Pizza By Alex to those who have not tried it. This one restaurant is the primary reason I often go to Biddeford and it's delicious pizza brings me back over and over again. With that said its wonders may not be obvious to everyone. The restaurant looks like it was build in the 40s or 50s with a makeover in the late 1960s and then left unchanged. With the slight addition of a newer oven which most locals don't like as much, the dark wood paneling, the dated photos and older furniture leaves on guessing about the present owners. The style can't be described as "shabby sheek " it is something more like "lost in time." The choice of the menu is limited and the size of the pizza's are uniform, still they have something going...I call it, the value of doing one thing well. Their pizzas are great. I would classify this pizza as Greek style. In New England there are many pizza joints with the name, "House of Pizza" attached to them. These places are generally run by Greek families with Greek salads and Baklava always present. Alex's pizza look similar but do not be confused with the House of Pizza variety. I am not exactly sure what makes theirs better or different but it is a positive difference. The traditional Greek pizzas are usually overly laden with oil..while these are much lighter with a crunchier texture to their crust. I would not say that Pizza by Alex is the best in the Portland area...but it is a specific genre of pizza all to its own...and once tasted people are often hooked ...and find themselves craving to go back. P.S. They don't use credit cards so bring cash.

What a neat little place, my friends and I call it grease by alex.. but very good stuff. One size only and cash only are the only downfalls but it has been around for a long time so the locals love the place.

The best pizza I've ever eaten. I grew up near Alex Pizza and we used to go there at least once a week. I'd either get the pepperoni pizza or the pepperoni and mushroom pizza. I really love the crust and how perfectly the cheese melted. Go to Pizza by Alex. Get a pepperoni pizza, asked for it to be cooked in the old oven (trust me on this one), order up a root beer, and wait. 10 or 15 minutes later a perfect pizza comes out. Eat, think about ordering another one or plan when you will come back and be full and happy.
(5)Bill L.
The best bar-room style (although the don't serve alcohol) pizza north of the Town Spa. Always part of our dinner plans when we vacation in Saco. Sometimes they get too busy to answer the phone, so go down and order in person. It's worth the wait! Personal favorites are the mushroom & onion and the pineapple (it cuts the grease). Nothing like an Alex's pizza with a cold one at the beach! Order a few extras to eat cold the next day. And don't forget to bring cash.
(5)Kate B.
Love their pizza & that they stick to tradition. Unwilling to give in to the pressure of variety they make what they know and do it well. 10" pizzas made the way they've always done it. The yaya Greek is hands down my favorite but I'd eat any of them. Don't look for alcohol when you go here it's strictly soda.
(5)Crystal H.
Pizza by Alex is always amazing! The locals know to ask for their pizza cooked in the old oven. But honestly, I don't think the oven makes a big difference anymore. The new oven is broken in pretty good now. I can tell which oven they used for my pizza, but thoroughly enjoy every bite no matter what! My only complaint is that the prices are a little high. But I suppose just like anything else, you get what you pay for!
(5)Brian M.
Awesome old school place that is a bright spot in the state of Maine. The interior is classic brick, old style tables and its a throwback to pizza days of yesteryear. I'm not usually a fan of retro looks, but I can dig this place. Pies only come in one size. They make em in their back room and throw em in the Pizzanator which is in plain view from the tables. The prices are fair for a smaller pizza. Pizzas can be cooked to your preference. The taste is just awesome as well. The crust is crunchy, but at the same time, but burned. Biddo has a number of gems that are worthy of mention and Pizza by Alex is one of them.
(5)Chris P.
The pizza was very good for personal pizzas and at a good price. The place can be very busy though so unless you want to sit and wait for a hAlf hour call in your order ahead.
(4)Nathan F.
Cash only. Pizza was delicious and crispy. Seems to have only one size cut into 8 slices. They use two large cardboard style plates as packaging in a paper bag which I thought was cool. Service was quick and the young girl at the register was very nice.
(4)Kit G.
This is my favorite pizza. No salads, no sandwiches, only pizza, one size. I cannot identify why I like it but I do. The majority of their business is takeout. They do offer seating and sodas. I like the crust. Not too thick or thin. I always get extra cheese and I like the brand of sausage they use. Not too salty. If you go you will be amazed how much take out business they do. There is a variety of toppings but this is a no frills divey kind of place. My kind of place. Everytime I stop by I get reinvigorated on how much I like there pie.
(4)Marty P.
Today for lunch. Called in a pepperoni pizza. Ready when I got there with the signature slit in the bag to relieve the steam. That's a little thing but who else does that? Delicious because...exactly the same as always. No fear of some different taste, texture, or look. 7 bucks and change. Very fair. Again, for the first timers...this pizza is a little different than your typical pizzeria. Not just mozz.. Cheddar mixed in gives it a Pizza By Alex unique taste. You may or may not like it but please don't claim that it's not pizza. It's great pizza. Oh, and those old school cardboard plates. Classic!
(5)Bill B.
They only serve pizza but when it's so good who'd want anything else? All pizzas are 10" sized. We had a Yaya Greek (spinach and feta) and a sausage and mushroom. Both were delicious and loaded with toppings.
(5)Mark M.
Local pizza at it's best. Typical and some unusual (Greek Yaya pizza) choices. If you want it the traditional way ask for it in the old ovens (otherwise it's made in an automatic oven and IMHO not quite as good). Crispy crust that is soft inside. Even the cheese on the ends can be crispy, yet is soft and tasty underneath (this is with the old oven). The first time I had it I was not sure what all the fuss was about. After the second time I was hooked. Any time we travel to southern Maine we try to work in a trip to Pizza by Alex. P.S. if you know anyone who used to live nearby you can send them a picture of your pizza by your phone and make them envious!
(5)Nick F.
Every time I'm in the area I try to stop here. Best pizza around
(5)Todd D.
The pizza is good but it's expensive and they only have like personal size it's worth a try but hard to go back much
(4)Thuy N.
Craved for pizza. I chose this place on yelp because it has good reviews. I ordered Hawaiian pizza, and a Greek pizza (don't remember the name). I had diarrhea in the middle of the night, and my boyfriend had a stomach ache. They taste good though, but as a first timer with this experience, HELL NO I'm coming back.
(1)Steven T.
We were driving up to Maine yesterday to visit a good friend, so we stopped in at this pizzeria. This place makes individual sized pizzas with a variety of toppings. The cost is reasonable ranging from $5 to $9 depending on the specific topping. Its a humble establishment catering to the area and neighborhood. Love it! I must say that I could smell the savory delight from the outside as we walked up the street. It smelled amazingly wonderful and I was not disappointed with the actual product. I almost wanted to jump on my buddies pizza. It had crispy edges and light sauce......oh yes! I can't wait to return to Maine for some pizza!
(4)Ashley L.
Wicked good! I love the personal pizzas. They are perfect for me, I love the serving size. The price for 1 is a little pricey tho. Should bring down the cost a tad. It will help in sure. But the food is delicious.
(3)Rick S.
The old Paras Pizza in Haverhill,Ma. and York,Me. were the same as Pizza byAlex. This is how Pizza should be. Excellent. The current Greek pizza shops that I have eaten at, could take a lesson.
(5)Julie L.
Good for what it is: "old fashioned," no frills, pizza joint. Friendly & quick service. We really liked that the only size offered means we got individual pizzas. Not overly greasy, but definitely not for health nuts. I think it's hysterical that their entire renovation/upkeep budget has gone to the fancy sign outside.
(3)Monica S.
This is definitely a place that most locals call in as a favorite. Biddeford is not my home town but I have been there a few times. I like the pizza in the old oven the best, but if you are the first people in the door for lunch you will not get that option because it takes a while for the oven to heat up! Try just asking for yours done extra if you can't get it in the old oven! My favorite pizza is the Hawaiian for here...pineapple and ham is delicious but to each his own on toppings. They do have a small parking lot in the back if you can't find street parking! There are a limited amount of seats on the ordering side of the place but more on the other side but not sure if they open them or when? Overall, I know I will be back. If you are new to the area try it out or if you are just on vacation try it out as well! It is a cool hometowney place!
(4)Don W.
I think I've tried all the pizza places in Biddeford-Saco and Pizza By Alex is better than most. I like the crust, the quantity of the toppings, and the taste. But it's really salty, the pepperoni is really tiny, there's no box to put it in when you're taking it home, and it's more expensive than most of the others. The pizza is above average and one of the best, I'll give Alex 4 stars for that. But I was not as overwhelmed as many of the other reviewers.
(4)Suzy D.
University of New England is one of the worst decisions I ever made. With the exception of a few choice friends, Pizza by Alex is the BEST thing to come of UNE. After transferring schools and my friends leaving Maine, i still return to Biddeford for Pizza by Alex. It tastes like good memories and pocket change left after school debt.
(5)Taryn A.
This is by far my favorite pizza joint! Every time I'm in Maine I make it a point to get their pizza. They only come in one size but it's the perfect size. You will not be disappointed.!
(5)Ellen H.
Super yummy, excellent service and just love the pie here! Totally unique to any pizza I've ever had. Highly recommend this place who uses local ingredients whenever possible. Enjoy!
(5)Michael L.
The first thing that got me about the location is not really in the greatest areas. After walking in the envirenment was nice and small and the service was very friendly and quick to help you. The menu prices can be a little more than you would want to spend for a personal pan pizza sized pizza, "about $10" but the smell alone makes your wallet open up and fork out the money. I ordered the special which was the works with pepperoni, salami, onions, black olives and green peppers. The taste was amazing, probably one of the most unique pizza I have had. It was a little salty but I think it was because of the mixture of the salami, pepperoni and black olives. The crust was a really good pan crust, not thick like that greasy pizza hut crust but a thinner version and still had a nice crunch and chew. A+ for me with that. So we also got it to go, so they packed the pizza between two paper plates which was nice because it sucked up a lot of the grease from the crust. So if you are dining in, I am not sure how yours compares. If I were to reccomend them I would definitely do so, just not a every day event because of price. But have it as a special occasion.
(4)Walter D.
Well I just had another Alex Pizza on Friday night. I will have to agree with my friend Heather G. That pie has to be cooked in the old oven. Another point I do agree on is the interior does need to be updated. But the do have making the pie down to a science. They will make it the way u like and I have never had to complain about a pie I have bought there. I have been going there for as long as I can remember. I grew up eating Pizza by Alex and I started my daughter eating "ok she would gum a cool slice of mushroom extra cheese" at a nice 7 months old. I myself love roni & onion old oven well done. One or two extra tips if you didn't know. 1. You can order a pie half cooked and then take it home and finish cooking it later to your liking. 2. You can order and have your pies half cooked and mailed to you. Yes they will ship you your pies. Ok make it a third! They will also half cook your pies package & freeze them. So you can enjoy them any time you want. So you can use my advise or not. It's a free world for you to choose. Hope you enjoy the pies as much as we do.
(5)Jeff D.
Super yummy crust - I go there whenever I am in Maine. The pizza comes in only one size and takes about 20 minutes before ready on average. Highly recommend the hamburger and pineapple.
(5)Samantha L.
People have been telling me Alex's pizza is the best pizza. I ask why, and they cannot really explain and just say it is. So I question further. What kind of pizza is it? How is the sauce? How is the price, etc etc. Being a New Yorker, I like my pizza crust thin, and I do "the fold." That is just how it is simply done. I get some more information regarding Alex's pizza. The crust is crispy underneath, it isn't too greasy and it's sort of pan style. Still, with all this description, this pizza still seems allusive to me. What is this obsession with this place by some, and others could careless? Will I be a convert and not? So I finally got to order my Alex's pizza. Mushroom, onion and I think green pepper. Mind you, they don't have pizza boxes here. It's placed between 2 pieces of cardboard and in a plastic/paper bag. Tacky, I know. Anyway, first visual instinct when seeing this pie. The mushrooms are canned. I know, but that was my first instinct. Anyway, I took a piping hot slice and bit into it. Though very hot, I have to admit it was undeniably to me, DELICIOUS. It is a thin-style pan style pizza crust. And it wasn't greasy at all. I usually avoid pizza because it is greasy and I feel disgusting after consuming it. I felt neither of these things. I actually made myself eat basically the entire pie because I really enjoyed it. No, I am not a traitor to my native state. But there is something appealing about Alex's pizza. If you're craving the pan style without all the extra grease or extra bread, Alex is the way to go. The thing is though, they only have 1 size, and the pies are pretty pricey. Mine was 8 and change (canned mushrooms are CHEAP so it is because they can, obviously) and the pie was only maybe a little bit larger (but thin mind you) than your standard personal pizza. So I wouldn't eat this on a regular basis, but when I want a pan-style pizza, Alex is the way to go. I've been won/duped. Whatever. Try it before you knock it.

oh well this is just the tastiest slice of pizza pie ive had. Im talking from Western New York State (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse) which all offered good pizza, as well as where i live now, Atlanta. Rochester and Portland, Maine offered the best daily options. Pontillo's in Rochester, and Portland Pie Co in Portland. Atlanta has had a pizza parlor called "pie in the sky" on Man VS Food, to conquer the carnivore challenge. I'd be more up to conquering the challenge if the piza were good. I had a slice before: Ranked a shitty avarage. I havent had good pizza in Atlanta yet. The closest i've had is from Michigan Pizza Chain called "Jet's", who deliver their own version of deep dish. Its alright. However, after all of the babble ive gone through, there is a small place that is easy to pass by while driving, if you arent watching: Pizza By Alex. Best i've ever had. The bread and crust taste like chee-it, and the toppings are soft on top of the slice, but dont slide off. Just awesome....
(5)Heather G.
I cannot NOT love this place. Personal-sized pizzas have been made the same way for YEARS. The crust is crunchy and crispy, the tomato sauce is salty and biting. The menu is sparse, so don't expect anything beyond pizza and soda. However, the limited menu means Alex knows what they're good at - a GREAT personal pizza...and they don't bother with even attempting anything else. It seems Pizza By Alex is a victim of inflation, as the prices seem to have gone up considerably since I moved away from Maine, and the interior could use a SERIOUS makeover (it's looked the same since I was little). However, the pizza is executed perfectly every time I come in....no variation whatsoever. It's consistent and consistently delicious. Be careful, though. It's so hard to resist stuffing a piece in your mouth as soon as it's out of the oven, but you WILL burn your mouth-roof skin. It's a fact. Try to restrain yourself until the molten cheese cools...and order a second pizza to-go. Just trust me.

The best pizza I have ever had! When we first moved to Biddeford this was the first place people told us to try. It is amazing. Cash only but there's an ATM inside. Great service.

I love Pizza by Alex. I always have and even after moving out of the area almost 10 years ago it is a necessity to stop by when I am home and grab a pizza. They have pizza and soda. Do not go looking for salad's or sandwiches. The menu may be limited but they know what they are doing when it comes to the personal size pizza. The crust is thin, crunchy, cheesy with just enough grease to make it really delicious. The sauce is salty and tasty and they always seem to have the perfect amount on the pizza. The cheese is plentiful and delicious. As for toppings I have tried almost everything here. I prefer the pineapple it is just so tasty. I used to go here almost every Friday in high school after different sporting events so it can get busy. Prices have also gone up considerably since those days but the pizza has not changed. The dining room has not had a remodel in decades but it gives Alex's personality.

Best pizza I've ever had - we have a summer house in Saco and it's guaranteed that we visit at least twice each time we're there! As someone who rarely carries cash, I do have to remind myself to stop at an ATM before we go to Alex's, but it's a minor inconvenience.

Get a pepperoni pizza "cooked in the old oven" (seriously) and you will have had the greatest pizza anywhere.

It is nice because it is open later and it has personal sized pizza, it's just not the best pizza

Any local of Biddeford or Saco will tell you the best pizza in the area is Alex's Pizza, or as their large classic 1960's neon sign states; Pizza by Alex. This family run pizza joint has been here forever. I remember my Dad getting pizza here to take home 40 years ago. It was the best then and still is now. Alex passed away a few years back, but it's still family owned and operated. The pizza is greek style and is baked and served in individual size pies of about 10" or 11". They make their own dough fresh, and the topping choices are numerous. Their red sauce is always consistent and delicious and the crust has just the right amount of crisp and chewiness. I always get mine topped with pepperoni, green peppers and mushrooms and it's perfect everytime. Whenever I'm back in Maine visiting friends and family, we always make it a point to have some Pizza by Alex! I would have gave it 5 stars, but they do not accept credit cards (ATM on premise) so 4 Stars *****

Got a couple of late night pizzas here after a show at the City Theater. I was happily surprised! Perfect blend of sauce and cheese on the plain ones, and the Greek yaya one had spinach and feta and onions - oh my! As in OH MY DELICIOUS! Reasonably priced as well. We got them to go, did not sit in. Amazing!

Found the listing on Yelp while visiting Maine, so we thought we'd try it. So glad!! Crust was fantastic. Just the right amount of sauce and it was covered with toppings. Cash only!!

Some of the most amazing service and pizza in town! If it were free I'd go daily. Great pizza at a good price. I've never been disappointed with this place. It's always in great shape and it has always had a great home feel to it.

Excellent pizza. Only pizza, only 1 size, and only cash. We come back whenever we are in town - consistently great!

Amazing, 5* crust. However, the actual core of the pizza was lackluster, and the fact that they don't take card was a big disappointment, especially considering there was no sign or anything warning about that. Also, while I wasn't disappointed by the lack of choices for pizza size and the fact it's cooked in a conveyor belt, I know some might be for sure. So 3*. Edible, but not raveable.

Amazing pizza....the crust is to die for and I love the individual sizes. Had both the cheese pizza and a fully loaded pizza and they were both amazing. Great local place/option when you are lobstered out! Open later than most places in town. Great service as well. Yum!
