It was back at the height of ski season, but we had a great dinner there. Got there late so we weren't sure if food was still an option, but the owners made us right at home and hooked us up. Prime rub was a hit, for sure. The bartender, forget her name, was great for conversation about the wild drinking antics about town, just my kind of conversation. Overall, if you're in the area go there for a early dinner, or latenight cocktails in a party enviroment.

I am surprised to see such good reviews for this "restaurant", it is more of a bar. The service was okay, but the food was not. The prime rib was mediocre. The prime rib sandwich was just a slab of rib on two tiny pieces of bread, that you couldn't even eat as a sandwich. The buffalo wings were definitely frozen. The kind that tastes more like batter than chicken. And the pizza was made from a pre-made crust. I am thoroughly disappointed after expecting more from the other reviews.

Great spot! Loads of delicious drinks, fantastic prime rib, pool tables, fun people, and a crazy halloween party. Great!

Took a drive to Bethel and found " Funky Red Barn" The service, food and all over environment was fabulous! Prime rib dinner $13! (Which is the special on Thursdays for $8.50). We will take the drive again and stop in for dinner. I'll try something else on the menu heard the burgers are good too.

Great spot for locals and visitors!!!....Can't beat the Thursday night prime rib special complete with half price funky "drink" specials as well. Ample helpings...Comfortable and casual seating...Attentive service...and entertainment on some nights as well. P.S. If you like Dirty Martinis with extra olives...they make the best!!!

Back again for another fantastic meal and it's Thursday night so we lucked out - prime rib special for 8.50 including homemade dessert! And they are now serving dinner 6 nights a week.

So disappointed. After seeing the great overall review, we were excited to go there for dinner. I don't know if it was because it was off season, but it sucked. First off, the menu was "literally" cut in half...their regular menu was cut in half with a pair of scissors to give a very small selection. I wound up with a salad, which they forgot the dressing, no biggie. And my companion got the fish which was bland and had no taste. He had asked whether the onion rings were beer battered and the reply from the not-so-friendly waitress was: they're frozen. Wow. Way to sell them. Made us think the fish was prob frozen too. The only positive part of the experience was the ever-so-attentive & friendly barkeep.

Bad, really really bad. The food was pretty good but the service was terrible. I have been there twice and had a similar experience both times. Our waitress was unhelpful, sour and downright rude. We gave it another change after the first bad experience but will never go back at this point. We have many friends with places in and around Bethel and many have had similar bad experiences with the awful server. We were really hoping our second visit would be better than the first. Oh well, there's others in Bethel that would appreciate our business.

After a long overnight hike with our five year old and dog we spent a day touring the area. We love Yelping for a place with local flavor and the Funky Red Barn did not let us down! In the early evening it was very family friendly. Our table had a checkerboard engraved on it and my husband and daughter challenged each other to a game of checkers. She crushed him. We were immediately brought drinks, our meals were delicious, the service was friendly, prompt and casual. We had a nice chat with owner and our kiddo gave him a big hug when we left. Very clean, very friendly - you can tell the proprietor cares about this place a lot!

Not only do they have the BEST prime rib (even better than numerous weddings I've attended), but the owners & staff are some of the nicest people I've come across. The food is great, the drinks are strong, & the atmosphere is family-friendly during dining hours. Late-night, this place is a BLAST! I always make sure that my friends from out-of-town hit up the Funky late-night for a true taste of the local flavor. No trip to Bethel is complete without a stop to the fun fun funky! Keep up the excellent work Barry & family! You guys are a true staple to the community!

We were staying at Sunday River for the week and decided to come into town for a few drinks. We were actually headed to Sud's pub but were so disappointed with the place we left and wandered into the Funky Red Barn. Someone at Sud's actually recommended it as their service was horrible too. When we arrived to the Funky Red Barn (just a quick walk down the road) we were greeted with a friendly smile and a "come as you are" atmosphere. We took a seat at the bar and had drinks in front of us within seconds. We played a game of pool there (they have two tables and a couple dart boards too) and then sat back at the bar and enjoyed conversation with the owner for another hour or so. Unfortunately the kitchen closed at 8 so we missed getting some grub however whatever they were cooking earlier smelled incredible! Oh don't forget to snag a T-shirt. We snagged their last two so hopefully they re-ordered. When you read what it says on it you'll know why you have to have one. Pretty funny.

I've been going to Bethel for a long time now, and I'd always stuck with the same restaurants. This most recent time, my girlfriend and I decided to try something new, and based on the positive Yelp reviews, we thought we'd check out the Funky Red Barn. The ambiance is definitely more bar-like than restaurant like. There are a few tables scattered in the corner, but the interior is mostly empty space for people to stand in. There is a pool table and a few dart boards, as well as one very large TV (which was playing the Red Sox) and a few smaller TVs (one of which was inexplicably playing the Lord of the Rings with no sound). We started out with the Prime Rib Bites. Looking back I don't know exactly what I was expecting, and I can't really imagine any way these could have been good, but suffice it to say they were not. They were coated in what I imagine would be fairly decent onion ring batter, and looked appetizing enough. However, they tasted like dry bland beef jerky and old fry oil. The horseradish dip was actually tasty, but it was also the only way to work up enough lubrication to actually swallow the tough little nuggets. My girlfriend ordered the sheperd's pie. It came out absolutely scorching hot, and continued to steam for the 15 or so minutes that she picked at it. To me, this is a sign that it was very obviously precooked and microwaved to order. The taste was not off-putting, but it was miles away from good. It would be easy enough to keep the ingredients for this separated and assemble/bake to order. It makes me uneasy to know my food is being microwaved. When was it cooked initially? Should I really be eating this? I ordered the Funky Chicken Sandwich. It came out on an english muffin, which was surprising but not inherently bad. The chicken itself, though, was quite bad. The shape of the chicken breast was too regular to have been fresh chicken. The grill marks on it were highly suspect, and the fact that there was no grilled flavor makes me think that they were artificial. The taste was bland, and the meat was tough and spongy. Another apparent microwave job. The peach barbecue tasted like store bought barbecue sauce and peach salsa mixed together. Not bad, but not nearly good enough to make up for the nasty chicken. The beer list was also lacking, particularly given some of the solid tap lists in the area. Overall, I imagine this place has a nice vibe for an apres ski bar in the winter. In the summer, or if you're looking for a good meal, Sud's Pub or the Sunday River Brewpub are much better options.
