If you think you can roll the dice and end up with better food than your Yelp intuition is telling you - you can't. This place is the classic, stereotypical restaurant on the water with a nice view and subpar food. It's really that simple. I wouldn't have come to the restaurant by choice because I knew it wouldn't have good food, but other people in our party prioritized the view over food quality. I had the haddock reuben. It consisted of a wafer thin piece of unseasoned haddock in between 2 enormous pieces of marbled rye (untoasted or buttered), and some kraut and thousand island dressing. The fish had no flavor, and the bread portions were extremely overwhelming. I ended up just eating the fish and kraut by itself. The fries were pre-battered sysco junk. The food around the table was equally unimpressive. The view of the river was pleasant and the service was fine. If you must come to this place, I'd recommend just ordering a drink and skipping the food.

This place was such a disappointment. Located close to the main hotel in Bath, the Hampton in seems to be a staple among visitors (it kept being recommended). We came here on a Thursday night for a seafood meal. We ordered a few glasses of wine, two shore dinners, the fish Reuben and the warmed salad with duck. The wine selection was lacking and those wines on the menu weren't very good. The warmed salad was good however the fried goat cheese cane as tiny breaded balls the size of sunflower seeds (think ball of breading with a speck if cheese). The duck on top was decent, but I've had much better. The shore dinners consisted of a chowder, lobster, mussels, potato and slaw. The chowder wasn't well seasoned and had separated, the oil, from the broth, from the base. The lobster comes whole with all the dirty work left to the diner. Mussels were good and the baked potato was your standard potato. For the price, we would have expected a bit more of the lobster dirty work to have been taken care of. The Reuben was the best dish though the accompanying fries tastes cheap and were clearly Frozen and straight out of a bag. All in all for value service and quality of food you can do much better in the bath area.

The line to get a table was over 20 people long and all we wanted was a beer on the deck in the sun. Sixteen tables were open there. We finally went and sat down. Servers not only ignored us, they turned their backs to us after helping other tables. Incredibly rude but instructed behavior we are sure. We went in to the inside bar and the bartender was very apologetic that we could only get a drink there and not take it to the deck. While they were clearly understaffed for the day, they need management that troubleshoots better than this.

It seems as though service just isn't what it used to be. I've eaten at the Kennebec Tavern before, and had a 3-4 star experience there. Food is good (not great), service has been acceptable. Tonight, though, things weren't up to snuff. Our waitperson took our drink orders and disappeared before we could place an order for appetizers. Once she returned with our drinks, she did hang around long enough for us to order an appetizer of deep fried parsnips (an app they're well known for in this area). Our food order was taken at the same time; nothing remarkable that would take an inordinate amount of time in the kitchen. 10 minutes or so after the app and entree orders were entered, our waitperson returned with the parsnips (crispy, flavorful and lightly salted) to refresh our drinks. I asked for another beer, but never received it. Our main course arrived after another 25 minutes; the appetizer was long gone by then and I didn't have another beer to tide me over, so it seemed even longer than it was. This was remarkable given that there were only 3-4 tables occupied when we placed our order. Our waitperson commented to the effect "Oh, I was supposed to get you another beer," and I responded that there wasn't much sense at this point. The food was of the usual quality; my clams were nicely done, hot and crispy yet tender inside, and the fries were excellent. The same was true for my son, his girlfriend, and my wife. My plate seemed a little light on clams, but not enough to make a fuss about. 60 minutes into our meal, with all plates either empty or pushed back, our waitperson returned to ask if there was anything else we needed. We declined and she brought us the check a few minutes later. Then she disappeared. 15 minutes later, I figured I'd better take matters into my own hands, went to the host station, handed the hostess my credit card and the check and asked her to take care of it. Like a startled bird, she flitted about the restaurant, apparently unsure of what she needed to do. She eventually settled on our server who had magically reappeared, and handed her the check. It still took another 5 minutes to close out the bill and get me something to sign, and I signaled my dissatisfaction with a tip in line with the service received. Sorry, folks . . . the food is good, but the service needs some work.

This is a lovely place with great views of the Kennebec River. Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Full bar. Our Seafood Sampler was wonderful; deep fried seafood was lightly breaded and not greasy. Generous portions and reasonably priced wine by the glass. Outstanding lobster stew. We will go there again.

Came while on my trip to Maine for the 48 hours shoot, which was the second part of this whole process. We were filming in bath for part of the day and when we rapped the producers and I came here for a late lunch before traveling back to the Portland airport for our spectate flights. I ordered the lobster which was steamed to perfection and served with asparagus and corn. The one producer ordered the same while the other ordered a steamed scallops and vegetable entree which was amazing night too, she shared a bite!!! This tavern is located on the water and is a very scenic and inviting place to eat at all times of the day. I highly recommend if you are ever in Bath Maine to try this place out.

Walking in, it took probably ten minutes to even be greeted by an employee. She was not very pleasant as she was rude about us saying "first available" since options were open both inside and out. She walked off and we followed, assumingly. She tossed down our menus at a table with five chairs and proceeded to leave without a single word. We are a six party group so, rude. They have a plaque from a chili competition but I wouldn't agree with their assessment. It tasted like a pre-made sauce of sorts with beans and seriously just fatty pieces of beef. The scallop po-boy came on a hamburger bun with only three scallops. It was lacking. They also have a ghost pepper sauce on a couple of their sandwiches. This sauce is not hot so don't be thrown when you see it. As my brother said, "it must really be a ghost" because he couldn't tell it was the hottest pepper according to the Scoville scale. The view of the water is great. Our actual server was very nice and left us wanting for nothing.

The view is spectacular, the food is....ok at best. Crab cakes were wet and a bit mushy. The prime rib was overcooked and the au jus needed some desperate flavor. The fish & chips were not what i expected. Instead of a beautiful filet i received what i can only describe as "fish nuggets". Chunks of breaded fish. It wasnt bad but it wasnt good either. The only bright spot besides the view was dessert. The peach pound cake with raspberries was delicious and the brownie sundae with caramel sauce was fantastic. Service was great. View was great. Dessert was great. Food was eh.

My daughter had the roasted duck sandwich and thought it was exceptional. My husband liked his tavern poutine. The fish chowder and lobster stew was amazing. Huge chunks of fish and lobster. I'm going with three stars for KT, and I feel a bit bad about it. They folks running the place are as nice as can be. Their lobster stew is to die for. They have a big enough menu to vary your choices when you eat here a lot, which I do because its right across from the hotel I stay in when working in Bath. So why the qualified praise? Two reasons: 1. Beyond the lobster stew (did I mention that I'd step over your dying body to get a bowl of this stew), the food I've had there is good but not great. Certainly not as good as several other options in town. 2. Expensive. Sorry, it just is. I'll be going back to KT often, its reliable and close and that lobster stew is like the Sirens to Ulysses. You can certainly do worse, so if you're in the area, you should give them a try.

Nice riverfront setting & very good service! Decent beer selection, which included a local amber. I opted for the lobster roll, which was good, not great, served with fries that were good, not great. My wife went with the soup du jour, butternut bisque, and beet salad, both of which, she loved. Kennebec Tavern is worth trying, if you're staying at the local marina or the Hampton Inn across the street, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Went to Kennebec Tavern with my sister and 3 nieces when we were camping this past week. After a sleepless night of rain we decided we needed to dry out and eat a good meal before heading back into the woods. We arrived and the manager and hostess greeted us and were very pleasant and provided crayons and kids' menus. We were seated and our order was taken promptly. The food, however, took forever to come out. The place wasn't busy and we didn't order anything complicated or with long cook times. When the food finally arrived two of the children's meals were burnt to the point that as an adult I wouldn't eat them (let along trying to serve charred pizza to children) and the pasta for the third child was in the process of being re-fired because the "chef didn't read the ticket that said no cheese" (waitress' words) and the child has a milk allergy so we weren't just being picky. When the waitress came back around about 5 minutes later to deliver the pasta she asked how everything was and we politely told her it was "fine" but the pizzas were so burned the kids wouldn't eat them. Thus far, we were very unhappy and the whole experience was a bust. About 5 minutes later the manager came to our table with the waitress to apologize for the state of the food and to comp the kids' meals and offer free dessert for all. The manager and the waitress were superb and truly knew how to work in the food industry. Their care redeemed some of the experience which is why they've earned 3 stars. Bottom line: I'd try it again... but I'd leave the kids at home next time.

Came up here to Bath, Maine on a 2 day vaca and spotted this place as we were driving around the Historic Downtown area. Excellent water view and family casual. We got here at lunch time so we wound up getting sandwiches with fries. My wife ordered the Lobster sandwich and it was crammed with a bountiful portion of lobster meat with very little mayo for 17 beans! She was very satisfied with both the quality and the portion. I had one of the specials of the day- "Thanksgiving in a Sandwich." As if I didnt get enough turkey and fixins at my big sister's yesterday in Braintree, MA. Haha, I dove into this heaping helping of turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce inside a kaiser roll. Yes sir, I did the elbows extended grip and grab on that bad boy and wolfed it in minutes! What a portion for 10 beans ! Now that's what I am talking about! Great portions at fair prices with a water view with very friendly and speedy service, we gutta winna here! Big Pauly is a fan of the Kennebunc Tavern in Bath, Maine.

Overall this is a nice restaurant. It has a nice outdoor dining area with and without an awning so you can sit outside even if it rains. The view is nice and relaxing. A summer rain and nice breeze is a treat, especially when you're visiting from down south where it's too hot to do anything outside. Our group mainly ordered lobster dishes. The lobster tail and whole lobster were the two choices. The lobster tail was served on top of a corn and potato salad that was very tasty. The lobster tail was char grilled and had a little bit of charring on the shell and some of the ash made its way on to the meat. That added to the flavor and made it very enjoyable. Most restaurants that do Florida lobster in the south either boil it or bake it. This was much better and I'm never going back to the having it cooked the old way. Prices are reasonable though on the upper end for the neighborhood. You are paying for the view and the atmosphere which is well worth it.

We had a great dinner here. We sat on the deck next to the marina, watching the motorboats being washed and enjoying the view .of the Rt 1 bridge. Our server was great -- right on top of our order and helpful with the menu without being pushy. I had the Maine haddock, my wife had a fluke special, my daughter the fried Maine shrimp, and my son a steamed lobster. Haddock had a tasty wine sauce and was well complemented by the mushrooms, leeks, and tomatoes. The shrimp was excellent. The fluke seemed dry. The lobster was sweet, and the price was pretty good. Overall the prices for dinner were pretty good, but the drinks, appetizers, and desert made it add up.

Food is amazing and the view is soothing & peaceful- but the service is slow. It took almost a full 10-15 minutes for me to even get a drink. After getting somewhat frustrated, I had the Maine haddock and it was cooked perfectly. After my food came, I would wait again! Perhaps the only restaurant on the water in Bath, the Kennebec Tavern uses really interesting ingredients in their normal and daily specials menus. The view isn't the greatest but it's the best Bath's got. The food's up there too. The salad was interesting and wonderful. The haddock filet sandwich (not fried) was underwhelming. I wanted it to be a five. I came in as a 3.5.

Delicious. Everything I ate was delicious and the service was oustanding. I had a taste of sweet potato fries, chicken wings, sea scallops, seafood ravioli, fried pickles and a few other things I can't remember. It was all delicious.

The view is spectacular, the food is....ok at best. Crab cakes were wet and a bit mushy. The prime rib was overcooked and the au jus needed some desperate flavor. The fish & chips were not what i expected. Instead of a beautiful filet i received what i can only describe as "fish nuggets". Chunks of breaded fish. It wasnt bad but it wasnt good either. The only bright spot besides the view was dessert. The peach pound cake with raspberries was delicious and the brownie sundae with caramel sauce was fantastic. Service was great. View was great. Dessert was great. Food was eh.

I am not much of a creative writer, I figure I would contribute back to the system via feedback as I rely on feedback when searching for a getaway or a restaurant. The food was delicious, service was great and had a nice seat next to the Kennebec River, if your in town and looking for a seafood dinner I would recommend this place.

This Tavern had a beautiful view of the Kennebec River. There was indoor and outdoor seating. The Haddock Reuben was wonderful. My daughter had the roasted duck sandwich and thought it was exceptional. My husband liked his tavern poutine. The fish chowder and lobster stew was amazing. Huge chunks of fish and lobster. Food great, scenery beautiful, an enjoyable experience!

I kept it simple with oysters and Caesar salad with lobster. Nice views, very casual. Old fashioned wasn't great, but it's tough to get a decent cocktail.

I'm going with three stars for KT, and I feel a bit bad about it. They folks running the place are as nice as can be. Their lobster stew is to die for. They have a big enough menu to vary your choices when you eat here a lot, which I do because its right across from the hotel I stay in when working in Bath. So why the qualified praise? Two reasons: 1. Beyond the lobster stew (did I mention that I'd step over your dying body to get a bowl of this stew), the food I've had there is good but not great. Certainly not as good as several other options in town. 2. Expensive. Sorry, it just is. I'll be going back to KT often, its reliable and close and that lobster stew is like the Sirens to Ulysses. You can certainly do worse, so if you're in the area, you should give them a try.

I had the lobster tortellini special. Very tasty but a little more sauce was needed. Our waitress brought lemon butter and that made it better. My husband had the scallops and asparagus over mashed parsnips. He raved and raved over the parsnips and loved his meal. We thought the prices were reasonable. We are just visiting the area but would return.

Nice riverfront setting & very good service! Decent beer selection, which included a local amber. I opted for the lobster roll, which was good, not great, served with fries that were good, not great. My wife went with the soup du jour, butternut bisque, and beet salad, both of which, she loved. Kennebec Tavern is worth trying, if you're staying at the local marina or the Hampton Inn across the street, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Seafood was good- chowder and lobster. Pasta dish was poor in taste and texture. Service was ok except for her response to the uneaten pasta... "What do you expect for pasta marinara". They did remove the charge for it. Location is great-right on the river. Decor is lacking.

Great location right on the marina, on the river. Plenty of outdoor seating with umbrellas. Started with the mussels appetizer. Broth was spicy but tasty. Mussels were cooked perfectly. Had the lobster BLT and it was very good. Lots of perfectly cooked bacon & nice chunks of lobster. The toasted sourdough bread was a nice touch.

Went to Kennebec Tavern with my sister and 3 nieces when we were camping this past week. After a sleepless night of rain we decided we needed to dry out and eat a good meal before heading back into the woods. We arrived and the manager and hostess greeted us and were very pleasant and provided crayons and kids' menus. We were seated and our order was taken promptly. The food, however, took forever to come out. The place wasn't busy and we didn't order anything complicated or with long cook times. When the food finally arrived two of the children's meals were burnt to the point that as an adult I wouldn't eat them (let along trying to serve charred pizza to children) and the pasta for the third child was in the process of being re-fired because the "chef didn't read the ticket that said no cheese" (waitress' words) and the child has a milk allergy so we weren't just being picky. When the waitress came back around about 5 minutes later to deliver the pasta she asked how everything was and we politely told her it was "fine" but the pizzas were so burned the kids wouldn't eat them. Thus far, we were very unhappy and the whole experience was a bust. About 5 minutes later the manager came to our table with the waitress to apologize for the state of the food and to comp the kids' meals and offer free dessert for all. The manager and the waitress were superb and truly knew how to work in the food industry. Their care redeemed some of the experience which is why they've earned 3 stars. Bottom line: I'd try it again... but I'd leave the kids at home next time.

Great location! Great view of the water! The only place in downtown Bath that serves lobster rolls. It is decent, not spectacular; it beats any place in New York City, that is all that I cared about.

Came up here to Bath, Maine on a 2 day vaca and spotted this place as we were driving around the Historic Downtown area. Excellent water view and family casual. We got here at lunch time so we wound up getting sandwiches with fries. My wife ordered the Lobster sandwich and it was crammed with a bountiful portion of lobster meat with very little mayo for 17 beans! She was very satisfied with both the quality and the portion. I had one of the specials of the day- "Thanksgiving in a Sandwich." As if I didnt get enough turkey and fixins at my big sister's yesterday in Braintree, MA. Haha, I dove into this heaping helping of turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce inside a kaiser roll. Yes sir, I did the elbows extended grip and grab on that bad boy and wolfed it in minutes! What a portion for 10 beans ! Now that's what I am talking about! Great portions at fair prices with a water view with very friendly and speedy service, we gutta winna here! Big Pauly is a fan of the Kennebunc Tavern in Bath, Maine.

1 star for their location on the bay and removing the charge on the meal after how bad it was. Under cooked fish, terribly prepared dishes (in general) and WAY over-priced. Total TOURIST TRAP. Seriously, choose another place unless you want sub-par food for $20+ per entre. p.s. went to Solo Bistro afterward and had an amazing time. Go there!

Overall this is a nice restaurant. It has a nice outdoor dining area with and without an awning so you can sit outside even if it rains. The view is nice and relaxing. A summer rain and nice breeze is a treat, especially when you're visiting from down south where it's too hot to do anything outside. Our group mainly ordered lobster dishes. The lobster tail and whole lobster were the two choices. The lobster tail was served on top of a corn and potato salad that was very tasty. The lobster tail was char grilled and had a little bit of charring on the shell and some of the ash made its way on to the meat. That added to the flavor and made it very enjoyable. Most restaurants that do Florida lobster in the south either boil it or bake it. This was much better and I'm never going back to the having it cooked the old way. Prices are reasonable though on the upper end for the neighborhood. You are paying for the view and the atmosphere which is well worth it.

We had a great dinner here. We sat on the deck next to the marina, watching the motorboats being washed and enjoying the view .of the Rt 1 bridge. Our server was great -- right on top of our order and helpful with the menu without being pushy. I had the Maine haddock, my wife had a fluke special, my daughter the fried Maine shrimp, and my son a steamed lobster. Haddock had a tasty wine sauce and was well complemented by the mushrooms, leeks, and tomatoes. The shrimp was excellent. The fluke seemed dry. The lobster was sweet, and the price was pretty good. Overall the prices for dinner were pretty good, but the drinks, appetizers, and desert made it add up.

Great lobster rolls, solid clam chowder and killer fresh lobster. Ive eaten here several times, and each time I've left with my appetite for Maine eats quenched. Great view and ok service. I'd recommend this if you're looking for a nice Maine experience.

Had a great lunch here. Nice calamari, very good BLT with fried egg and an excellent spinach salad with strawberries and goat cheese. Service was OK and the view of the river and bridge was amazing.

Food is amazing and the view is soothing & peaceful- but the service is slow. It took almost a full 10-15 minutes for me to even get a drink. After getting somewhat frustrated, I had the Maine haddock and it was cooked perfectly. After my food came, I would wait again! Everyone around me seemed to also enjoy their meals - if you go, just be sure to order a drink asap!

Perhaps the only restaurant on the water in Bath, the Kennebec Tavern uses really interesting ingredients in their normal and daily specials menus. The view isn't the greatest but it's the best Bath's got. The food's up there too. The salad was interesting and wonderful. The haddock filet sandwich (not fried) was underwhelming. I wanted it to be a five. I came in as a 3.5.
