Three years later, I'm updating my review. My mother loves this place and I just don't understand, but I keep meeting her for dinner here every other month or so and wondering why. The salsa is awful. Just terrible. The guacamole is so-so (if you can't get salsa and guacamole right at a Mexican restaurant, there is no reason for us to see each other anymore.) The margaritas are way more of the fake green stuff than they should be. The service is okay. The redeemer for me is the crispy beef tacos, which are actually really good, but again, the salsa and guacamole -- meh. The food at the SIlver Spring location is really good, as I recall, so I think they need to import their folks up the Pike for awhile to fix things.

Don't know what is with all the bad reviews. This place is really good, the servers are very friendly. The food is good and the pitchers of Margarita are great. Try the melon flavor really good! Prices are alittle expensive but I think the quality of service, and convenient location makes it worth it.

I really like this place - it's authentic, really friendly and has good food. It's also really easy to order-out which we do at least once a week!

We ended up here for lunch on a whim. The food was just ok overall, with one item left to be desired. I do not recommend the cevice. it seemed like it was just prepared and left too long. The scallops and shrimp were on the firm/ tough side. (like when it's overcooked) The rancho salad w/ maybe 6oz. of sliced steak (good seasoning) on top of romaine lettuce, a few sprigs of frisee, and slices of radish wasn't really worth the price they charged.

Convenient parking and location and a perfect pregame before heading next door to Hooters but it doesn't have much else going for it. Despite the good salsa (which apparently isn't the general consensus on here), the booze is poured with a really light hand despite the price making you think otherwise. The food is only average at best. TV's and friendly staff help this place out a little but the proof should really be in how your stomach and wallet feel after you leave and this place continues to leaving both wanting.

6/10/11 12:30PM Carne Asada $11.95 Came here with co-workers for lunch. Meh. I gave an extra star for the large, filling portions. Other than that, there was nothing to brag about. The carne asada was a bit Americanized for my taste buds. I believe it just had way too much adobo seasoning; very salty meat. The $2.25 fountain drink takes away .5 star. 2.5 Stars...I need to try some real, low-down Mex food!

Chips were the best thing about the place. Chicken Enchiladas were good. Salsa sucked Service sucked more than the salsa. I predict that I won't be back.

I have gone here for the entire time they've been in this location. I have spoken often to the owners, who are wonderful (Portuguese and Hispanic). I have talked multiple times with the Portuguese owner about my travels in Portugal and his nephew who mostly manages the restaurant. The staff is exceptional... excellent service and excellent people! However; I was there last Thursday night at the bar after a pleasant greeting and chat with the son. I was talking to another customer at the bar when he spotted a cockroach on the bar! He put one of the long rubber bar coasters over it.. and alerted the bartender. Her reaction was to remove all of the rubber bar coasters and go away. The owner's son was sitting less than 10 feet away from us talking to other employees. She never said a word to him and he never reacted to what I'd consider a pretty vociferous alarm from the guy I was talking to! I thought about going over and saying something but thought this was really isolated and not worth making an issue of. Then about 5 minutes later, I saw a mouse run from one of the tables to the other! I didn't say anything to the customer I was having the discussion with because I wasn't really sure it it was a mouse at first and he was from Virginia and I, frankly, felt sort of embarrassed for Rockville and these owners that I had greatly endorsed to him! I just felt sort of embarrassed overall... especially if that was actually a mouse... and I didn't want to freak him out after already being disgusted by the cockroach! We continued to talk and then I saw the mouse run back in the other direction! I quickly told the bartender and the guy that I "had to go!" It was getting late and I just needed to get home! I still feel sick to my stomach about the entire incident and will never return here; despite how nice ownership is! I have thought long and hard about writing this review.. or/and contacting the owners, but if the bartender didn't feel the need to report the cockroach to the owner who was sitting right there and the rampant nature in which that mouse was running around got no employees attention, I really think that they should have a clue that they have a roach and mouse infestation issue! I mean; there are signs that restaurant inspectors see and there are signs that restaurant owners should routinely watch for. This was so blatant, that I'm not convinced that they don't know what's going on. I had to post this mostly because I don't want any of you to eat here unless/until they get a clue and I felt that speaking to them directly wouldn't cure anything because the signs were simply so blatant and just ignored!! Nice people but wow!

I gotta agree with everyone on everything! There is plenty of chips and salsa (way to watery), the margaritas are nice and strong....so basically just come, get chips, dip and maybe some guac; sit outside on a nice warm day and skip the food alllll together! On a positive side, there is always ample seating so it's great for large work lunches...which is basically the ONLY reason I ever go here! Also, they let us bring in a birthday cake, no charge...2.5 Stars!

Not the nicest place to eat. It appears someone tried to make Mexican food with the content of the fridge which included ketchup and cheese. But the service is nice. Atmosphere was warm...,fire the chef and the place would be great. Skip the flautus

Stop by here for lunch, found the setting was relaxing and open. We got seated fast and staff was friendly. Their chips and salsa was good. Went through the lunch menu and actually got a little confused was what actually came with the entre. Have to end up asking our waiter to be sure. I ended up getting the Beef Burrito Santa Fe, and my companion got a Beef Chimichanga. The Burrito came with a side of shredded lettuce and yellow rice. I was really disappointed because the sides were literally about two table spoons worth, very small portion. And I not sure why they called it Santa Fe, when you say Santa Fe, you would think about corn and black bean. None of those were in or near the Burrito. Appear they used lots of MSG in the Burrito also, got very thirsty afterward. The Beef Chimichanga came with a side of pico de gallo, and that was tasty. Food was acceptable, but pricing was a little high for what you get, every entre was $10 or more. If this was lunch price, hate to see what the dinner price is.

Went there with my family last week, and everything was delicious, great enchiladas and tomales. Service was great; prompt and always ready with more beverages and whatnot. We will be coming back.

Had the avocado salad and the ceviche. Not crazy about either--it tasted like both had the same too-tart dressing, but the portion sizes were good for the price. The food wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but at least the servings were large and they were open late on a weeknight.

This place has food. Not particularly good or bad food, but definitely food. It will satisfy your hunger. There's not much else I can say to recommend it, though.

  • M K.

Terrible and over-priced. I ordered the vegetable enchiladas. Since when do enchiladas have broccoli in them? Since when does ANY Mexican cuisine have broccoli? There were no peppers or onions...just a pre-frozen mix of broccoli and carrots. The sauces on the enchiladas were offered as "red, green, and white." I asked for clarification; the white was described as "sour cream" and the green as "spicy." I got the green. It was basically green-colored sour cream. All this luxury for $11. Skip this place.

This place is definitely breaking employment laws. I applied there to work, and the manager wanted me to work an unknown number of hours for training (12?) for no pay. He was a total creep, flirting with all the Russian girls he hires and staring at my chest. When I decided to leave early on, he called me and hung up on me when I told him I'd found something else. In terms of the food, it's nothing impressive. I used to eat at Mi Rancho before this incident, but after I have no reason to. It's just another Maryland pseudo-Mexican restaurant with weak margaritas and bland chips.

Went here for lunch with my Mom a few days ago and Wow, talk about disappointing. First of all, we saw the server maybe 3 times in our HOUR LONG meal (again, we just came for lunch). I decided to order an appetizer which came out VERY different than it was described on menu (when the menu says 'ground beef', you don't expect 1 overcooked chunk of dry beef on every one of the 13 chips that comprise your plate of nachos- $10.95). When my Mom FINALLY got the attention of the server (who had disappeared, along with seemingly every other employee) and asked for a menu, along with a carry out box, the woman was so rude! She demanded to know what I said was wrong with the food (I told her it just turned out to be different than I expected- I hadn't even meant to bring it up). Since I hadn't meant to cause a problem (I really did see it as more my fault than anyone else's), I told her I was just going to take it home to my Dad. She scoffed at me and stormed off. She returned with a woman employee, who, while sweet, was also insistant to know 'what she'd done wrong'- I felt terrible, was embarrassed, and annoyed that my server through some sort of attack of righteous indignation would make a huge deal out of NOTHING. IF you go here, be careful what you order- and, for the love of ALL, be ready for a confrontation, even if you don't look for trouble (again, I didn't say ANYTHING but that I'd like a box for my order and a menu, TO ORDER SOMETHING ELSE- what I did wrong, I'll never know.)

Seems like previous yelpers have hit the nail on the head. This isn't horrible but it's certainly nothing exciting. I got veggie fajitas that had nice stuff like broccoli and zucchini but was missing the requisite peppers and onions. Seriously how do you have ANY fajitas without peppers and onions, much less veggie fajitas. I feel like i'm just repeating every other yelp review, but they're pretty spot on. The employees were very nice and helpful. Great service but the food was just meh. I wouldn't warn people away from here, but just don't have your expectations too high. If you're craving sit down mexican, and you're around here, it will do. Don't go out of your way to visit here though.

Updating Mi Rancho... The rating is now reduced to one and a quarter yelps from two and a half. It's not bad enough to fall off the charts entirely, but we probably won't go back. We had a guacamole appetizer that was severely oversalty. Salsa was bland today; tomatoes were okay but I again needed to add Tabasco. The beef taco has taken a hit; we think it's the quality of the beef but it's just a beef taco now, nothing special. Chile relleno was still very tasty but lighter on the poblano than usual. The chicken enchildada sauce was definitely not the whole enchilada. Beans and rice (actually al dente) were actually quite good, but the rest was disappointing. We skipped dessert. It's a shame, because we used to go fairly frequently - we're probably El Mariachi people for good, unless Villa Maya proves to be as good as people say.

This restaurant is decidedly average. It's not a place where you'll say, "Oh, wow, I'm making a special effort to go back there again!" but at the same time, it's not one where you'll say, "Oh, wow, I'm never going back there again!" This also isn't to say I did not enjoy my visit. I did enjoy my visit. I took my mother here for dinner on a Thursday evening. The service was friendly and the food came really quickly. The food was not the best Tex-Mex I've ever had, but for the (quite reasonable) price, it was good. The restaurant was very quiet because there were few other patrons at the time. I think I was the loudest person in the room (which isn't saying much). So all in all, this restaurant is another place to add to the list of potential places to go, but not a particularly memorable one.

I ordered the Santa Fe burrito with ground beef last night. It was perfectly fine for being the only somewhat Mexican restaurant in the area. We also ordered the Flameado de Queso with chorizo. We were expecting more of a cheese dip, but this was a harder white cheese with large chunks of chorizo mixed in. It was just ok - my friend felt like she was going to choke on the cheese since it wasn't melted nearly enough. The chips and salsa are pretty good here, but overall the food is nothing to write home about (and since home is in California where most of the Mexican food is actually amazing, I definitely won't be doing that).

O my goodness, I don't even know where to start. The meal there's very forgettable. For a Tex-Mex restaurant, this place's definitely wayyy ove-priced! I would not pay that much for a below-average Tex-Mex meal... The portion isn't that big, the plate is though lol... After the meal, I was still hungry, thank goodness they have unlimited salsa and chips lol. I've only been here once and I probably won't go back there again. I want my money back!!!

    (1)
  • Jodi G.

Ummm, I think I'll pass on this restaurant next time around. The chips were good but the salsa was very very bland. I had the chicken taco salad. The chicken was *bleh* & the meal was very forgettable ...One positive thing I can say is the employees were all very nice. I can easily forget a meal but I don't forget kind people. :-)

I remember when this establishment existed under a different name, and it was really nice. The food was great, and I liked the bar set up, but now it's completely changed. The chicken enchiladas was okay, but nothing special. The chips were decent, but the salsa was terrible. It was just so bland, watery and tasteless. I mean you can buy better tasting salsa at your grocery store. It's a huge disappointment when the salsa is this bad. I ordered an appetizer too which was chips, sour cream, cheese, salsa and streak, but the steak just seemed old, and not juicy. That's all I can really say about this place. For the price, the quality is not good at all. Maybe just skip the food, and take a few shots of Jose Cuervo to wash off the bad taste of the watery salsa. I doubt I'll come back here.

I had looked forward to Mi Rancho's opening and replacing the at best mediocre "On the Border." Mi Rancho in Germantown had great food, and I've had many excellent lunches at Mi Rancho Silver Spring. What a disappointment! For example, the complimentary salsa is smokey and a little spicy at the other locations, but it tastes like it came out of number 10 can here! The drinks, which are the only advantage over Baha Fresh across the street, are mediocre, as is the barely strip-mall worthy food. Been here lunch twice. I hoped that they would improve, but the only things I can say good about the place are that the onions in the fajitas are nicely caramelized and the chips are light. Did I mention that the service needs improvement? I will!

  • E. F.

I ordered the vegetable enchiladas. The tortillas tasted like cardboard. The vegetables tasted like they were from a bag in the back of the freezer. The only thing that tasted remotely fresh was the cheese. Not going back here if I can help it. Maybe their meat offerings are better, but if you're vegetarian, this isn't worth your money.

Not bad for chain Tex-Mex food. Not great either. I've had much worse fake Mexican food in my lifetime. Lunch menu is rather limited, steak had sort of a livery flavor with the fajitas. Service pretty slow, I've been there a few times and not received a refill on my drink. That's worse than someone putting their dong in the mashed potatoes. Atmosphere is ok, never overly busy at lunch, but not dead either (which is a sure sign of food poisoning waiting to bite you). If you want a 12 dollar eat-in lunch, I recommend LaBrasa. Slightly different than Tex-Mex but much better food/quality/taste.

My family and I often passed by Mi Rancho and always wondered how the food was. Finally tried it. It was fine, above average, actually. Would have gone back if not for the crass pricing of their condiments. I ordered the fajitas and they did not provide enough guacmole and salsa. I asked for more and they brought more out. But then, on the bill I found out that they charged me $5 for CONDIMENTS! The food is not that good that they can alienate customers like that. Glad I tried it. Now I know and can tell everyone else what a rip off this place is. Andy

Go to the one in Germantown if you're this far north of the original one that's in downtown Silver Spring....this one is crap-o-licious. The service sucks and the food is halfway done. Which is surprising when Mexican food is typically one of the easiest types of meals to prepare....how can you screw it up? It's like over-cooking spaghetti. Just skip this spot altogether

    (1)
  • Jason C.

I think 2 stars fits the bill (maybe less) for this restaurant. It almost feels as if the food was frozen food taken out of the microwave. There is nothing special about the food, the taste, the experience. On top of it, it is quite pricey (perhaps due to location). You may notice this place b/c of the decor on the outside and b/c it's in a nice location on Rockville Pike, but it pretty much ranks at the bottom of all Mexican restaurants I've been to in the area.

    (2)
  • Trevor M.

Consistent in their Inconsistency. It really does boil down to "Meh". Usually won't do this...but I really wish that they would bring back OTB back to that location. Atmosphere...Typical Tex/Mex look. Nothing to write home about. Even the people who have eaten there seem like...'meh, it's close to home" Food: Chips...greasy. Salsa...watery and lacking flavor...ever heard of cumin? Fajitas...cooked well, but lacking that special something...oh, yeah...flavor. Beans...meh. Rice...is boiling it enough? add something to it. Drinks/Bar: Standard...once again nothing to right home about. Service: There are good days...and there are bad days...more bad then good. Return rate: Desparate for Mexican without having to stray far in Rockville? Don't want to go to Austin Grill or Cactus Cantina. No, then this is the place for you. I'll go....meh. Bottom line: They were far more consistent and better in Germantown area. Not that Rockville is the big leagues, but goodness...standards have gone down. It is acceptable...not great.

  • G A.

We went to the Rockville location. Severely disappointed is an understatement. I had a burrito and my wife had a shrimp salad. The meat in the burrito and the shrimp both tasted frozen and ruined the dishes. C'mon Mi Rancho, how do you mess up a burrito if you are a Mexican restaurant?? Should have gone to Taco Bell..at least you know what you get there for a fraction of the price.

  • Dave G.

Everything about Mi Rancho is excellent. I am not sure why they have so many negative reviews. The atmosphere is fun, the food is some of the best Mexican food I have had in this area. The prices are affordable. The drink menu is great!

For authebtic mexican go somewhere else. While Mi Rancho is the cute and quaint americanized mexican restaurant- the food leaves something to be desired. The carne asada was tough and chewy with barely any sides. The tijuana platter was sub-par at best. The only saving grace was the sangria and our waitress. For a pitcher of red sangria and both meals our check came out to just over $50. I recommend taking your cash and going to Rio Grande for a better meal.

Basically here is the truth. Unless your willing to spend $80 bucks for two people, your dinning experience at any restaurant will be forgettable. You might as well make something at home because the ingredients will be healthier, taste better, cost far less and be prepared just the way you want it. If you do go to a mid level restaurant, expect so-so food, a so-so waitstaff, and a so-so bill that will leave you thinking "i should have just stayed home." Review: Atmosphere: typical. Bland, just like most people in Rockville so its probably appropriate. The food was mexican-ish. Not rocket science recipes. Like most mexican places, its the same four ingredients prepared 20 slightly different ways. The owner was so very nice. The bar tender was lame. cheap liquors and didnt know how to make a lot of drinks. Awful bloody marry. My waiter was not rude but not great. (Btw- im tired of giving tips to lousy servers. I might start giving sub-15% tips when its called for. Anyone agree with this thought???) I looked at my $60 bill and thought "for $80 bucks i could go to oyamel" which serves top notch drinks, delicious and unique dishes, and wonderful atmosphere. Food for thought.

The food was OK, but the service was not by any means acceptable. The waitress was nice, but she took SO long. Also, there was a fmaily that came in after us, yet they got their food before us, I think because they were Latino, and the restaurant wanted to make an impression with their food and service. But you shouldn't neglect your customers for such. My dad left no tip, but did leave a note saying why on our receipt. As we walked out, we saw her reading the note.

Am I a glutton for punishment? Because I live nearby and I was craving Mexican, I found myself walking to Mi Rancho. I could have gone around the corner to Joe's Noodle House or Yekta, but no, I went into Mi Rancho. And once again I was disappointed by their bland enchiladas, dry chicken, and a side of rice that tasted like it came out of an instant rice package.

I have been there three times. First time, I waited nearly an hour for some take out food. They forgot to make my order. I was sitting at the bar and the bartender was kind of rude. She didn't even wonder why I was sitting there so long or why my order was taking so long. I chalked this up to it being a game night and it was packed. The second time was okay. Just okay. It was less crowded, so service was a little better. The third time I went there, my friend and I ate on the patio. 355 is not the best ambiance, but it was a warm night and wanted to enjoy it. The service was the worst I've had because not only did it take an hour for someone to see that our food was late, they were rude about it. They never apologized. They were saying it was because they had a big party inside. But, why were other tables that had gotten there after we had already been served? In most restaurants, when the service is poor the manager makes up for it somehow or at least apologizes. He was the most rude restaurant manager. The food is not all that. I wish there were better Mexican restaurants in the area, but there don't seem to be. The Germantown and Silver Spring locations were much, much better experiences.

****3.5**** We've been a fan of the original Mi Rancho in dowtown Silver Spring for well over a decade now, so we were excited to see this new location open up just a scant mile from my office. They serve above average Tex-Mex in a casual atmosphere. The first week they were open I wrangled up a sizeable group from work and we gave them a shot for dinner. That experience while it showed promise, was fraught with issues, most surrounding service... for example... I ordered a non-alcoholic margarita, oh about three times before I got it. When it finally came I was in the restroom. One of the other diners asked our server if it was non-alcoholic (looking out for me) at which point our server picked up the margarita took a big sniff and said "I think so" placing it at me seat. My dining partner in crime and I stopped in this past Saturday night at 7PM and the place was WALL TO WALL with people. The hostess told us there would be a 20- 30 minute wait and as luck would have it we ran into friends and the time passed quickly. The chips are great. Light crisp and salty. As noted previously, the salsa is a little weak. Missing some kick for my taste. However, my dining partner in crime loved it, because he hates spicy salsa. Go figure. Dinner took a long time to come out. I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp and mixed fajitas (chicken and beef) while my "amigo" had the grilled chicken. Both entrees were great, although, mine was missing the chicken portion, just steak. That was not a serious enough problem for me to report. Our server was clearly too busy, but God bless her, she kept a brave face, never letting on that she was "in the weeds". We ordered desserts which consisted of Tres Leches Cake (one of the best I've had) and the Soapapillas, also very good. So clearly there are some bugs to be worked out, but if my hunch is correct, they'll work them out. The Silver Spring location deals with a similar volume of customers and the place runs like a well oiled machine.

I went to Mi Racho during my lunch hour on a Tuesday and it was pretty empty and I went to the bar and ordered Nachos Mi Rancho with chicken to go. Once I arrived at the office I open my bag and notice that they gave me 8 chips with some melted cheese and refried beens on top of the chips. With some tsp of sour cream, gaucamole, sliced tomatoes, and a large side of lettuce, and a few chicken cubes of chicken. So I called the Mi Rancho Restaurant and told them that I just left there and had ordered a Nachos Mi Rancho with chicken for $8.95 plus taxes and told them what they gave me. The guy on the phone said yes the order only comes with 8 chips. I was in total shock. I told them that they should of said something to me or they should indicate that on the menu. He said that that's the owner's decision. I told him that I should of gone to Taco Bell than to go there. Don't ever order the Nachos Mi. Rancho unless you want 8 chips with some melted cheese.

Had some tasty margaritas, the salsa was good and fresh and finished off with a trio of enchiladas! Nice outside area too! Very relaxed and wasn't rushed. I definitely would come back, it's just as good as Rio and I LOVE Rio Grande.

Hmm, I'm not sure where to really begin... let's rewind: Mi Rancho replaced On the Border. I was really devastated when OTB closed down. I already wasn't expecting anything great, but I was still going to give this place a chance. I know several that do not like Tex-Mex, but thank goodness some of my friends do! However, we weren't really impressed. Two of my girlfriends and I met up for a needed happy hour on a Tuesday. It was really empty - just two other people and my friends. it's a Tuesday AND they just opened recently, so you can't blame them. I've seen lots of cars there on a Saturday night though. Also, older customers slowly straggled in as we ate. No one greeted us at the time and we sat ourselves in the dining area. We asked about the HH specials and were told we had to sit in the bar area. SMALL table for three please? I didn't get that "I'm loving this place" vibe. Signs weren't lit and I felt like they were overstaffed. Almost every 10 minutes, a new staff worker would come through the doors. You would see 15 workers sitting in the bar area watching a soccer game on the televisions (TVs were nice). Our dinners were alright. It didn't take long to wait, but we were the only customers then. Our service at the bar was good. Really nice lady. Their chips and salsa are alright. I felt like their chips were broken up too small and perhaps from a bag...? I still can't get enough of my favorite though - Rio Grande. LOVE THAT PLACE! I drool every time I think about it. Their chips are so warm and sprinkled with salt and the salsa is so fresh and every bite is so tasty! The drooling begins! All in all, "Meh. I've experienced better." If I do decide to go back, it would be for their Dos Equis on draft. It's less than $2.00. I think that was the only reason why we were there for as long as we were. If you're looking for a quite and low-key kind of Tex-Mex place, then you could consider going here. I'd say Rio Grande if you want to think on the same playing field. Or even Chipotle or Baja Fresh for a cheaper place - which are both almost across the street. But I wouldn't suggest this place to others.

My boyfriend and I had passed this place driving on Rockville Pike multiple times and finally bothered to stop by and try it. We strayed from getting an appetizer after being presented with chips and salsa which were average. No better or no worse than any other chips and salsa at a tex-mex place. We ordered a full pitcher of sangria which was quite good and inexpensive (about $19 for 8 glasses) but they brought a full pitcher to the table with two already filled glasses, so technically 10. They brought the sangria with a spoon too, because we all know how frustrating it is to finish a pitcher of sangria and stare at all of the amazing fruit just lying at the bottom with the ice. I ordered vegetable fajitas which were quite good! They give you a normal amount of veggies. I'm not a fan of the massive heap of vegetables because while there are a lot of veggie choices, I end up leaving more than half of the heap there uneaten! The tortillas are made in house and they were brought to the table hot and fresh. The service was great. We barely waited ten minutes for our main meal! The restaurant was fairly crowded for a Sunday right before dinner time. Throw this restaurant on your radar for new tex-mex places to visit in Rockville.

Went here at lunch with some co-workers to celebrate a birthday. The whole experience can be judged as Meh. My Coke tasted watered down, the food was mediocre at best, including rice that was not sufficiently cooked. With many other dining options in the area, I'm definitely not going back here for a long time, if ever.

I've been to a couple of these. I have to say that this one is a little better than the one in Germantown. Not to say that the one in Germantown is bad, but if I had to pick one I would go w/ this one. The food was good, the chips and salsa were good, the drinks were good. The staff was very friendly with the GM greeting us at the door. For their prices the food is worth it. I got the been and chicken enchiladas and pretty much ate the whole thing. Winning! I was super full afterwards! Looks like a fun place for HH too.

My wife and I've been many times and keeps going back because the food is great, they are good with kids and the price is right. I would encourage anyone looking for a great family mexican resturant to go here.

My fellow Houstonians would be aghast that I ate Tex-Mex in Maryland but it wasn't bad. The Chimichanga was decent and the service was very good. The salsa was weak. It tasted like it came from a jar. The rest of the meal was pretty good (for Maryland).

Nothing spectacular, but solid tex mex with prices that won't break the bank.

Their food was a really pathetic attempt at Mexican. Their queso dip was straight cheese wiz and even their salsa wasnt authentic. Do not eat here.

Avoid if you have any respect for Texmex. Where to begin? This place is as Mexican as a hocky puck. The fact the place was empty at luchtime should have given a clue. Salsa was tomato paste canned beans zararans rice. most of the plates came with "seasonal fruit" . what the hell? What Texmex place has seasonal fruit instead of beans? Aggh heresy! To finish it off the lady had the cojones to charge for a jalepeno. Avoid!

I'm surprised at the bad reviews.. we've been going to the downtown silver spring version of Mi Rancho for years and were happy they opened up a larger restaurant on the Pike. We've been several times. They always have fresh guacamole. Love their fajitas, beans and burritos - kid friendly on both the atmosphere and the food. They are always happy to accommodate and leave the green peppers out of the fajitas for my husband. The food is consistently good. The manager (owner? older guy..) is always nice when he's there, comes around and asks how everything is.

Having grown up in Texas, I've been desperately searching for some good Tex-Mex or even just Mexican food. I'd heard mixed reviews about this place so thought I'd try it out myself. I sat down and was immediately apprehensive about the lack of guacamole dip on the menu. The tortilla machine redeemed the restaurant a bit because the tortillas were at least hot and fresh (lacking in heft and lard). I ordered some fajitas (veggie since I wasn't hungry enough for the steak ones) and I was completely appalled. These were the worst veggie fajitas I've ever had. They were basically unseasoned steamed vegetables brought out on a sizzling plate. To top it off, the rice was crunchy and everything lacked flavor. My husband informed me that this is what veggie fajitas are like on the East Coast. So, if you're in for some not very authentic Mexican food, this place may be for you. However, the lack of seasoning was simply unacceptable. I won't be returning here any time soon.

Excellent food, good service, great price. We stopped in for a quick dinner last weekend. I got a burrito which was excellent, and the drinks were good as well. If you're looking for a good mexican place in the area, you can do much worse than this.

This place was awful! Service sucked as did the food. We ordered chicken tamales, and it was nothing but cornmeal, no meat! And our waitress charged us for food we didn't even order. Never going to again!

Mi Rancho is a generic feeling Tex-Mex restaurant with average food. It's not my first choice, but it's close to my house when I crave fajitas but just can't bring myself to drive all the way down Rockville Pike to somewhere better. The service was ok. Our server was friendly but brought us the wrong beer. The beef fajitas & the carne asada were tasty. The beans had a little spice to them but could have used longer cooking so the flavors could blend. The homemade flour tortillas were good but a little too chewy. The salsa was fresh but very, very bland. The rice was fluffy but bland. This place would be good for people who think black pepper is too spicy or who have never experienced real home cooked Tex-Mex.

This restaurant has a clean and friendly atmosphere. The menu has a wide range to order from. However, the food is a bit over priced. The tortillas are amazing. My favorite dish is their Chicken Breast which is a bit over priced. Overall, a good restaurant with a friendly staff. Took a star away for the prices.

  • Ryan N.

I will start off by agreeing the salsa here needs some work. It was watery and pretty bland. For the main course, I had steak fajitas and can't say I was very impressed. They were ok but I have had much better. Prices were a little high but at least the service was decent. The restaurant itself is in half the space that used to be On The Border. The downer is it is not the half that had the open air seating which was great on nice days.

Stopped for a light snack instead of dinner. Had to ask for chips and salsa. There were no condiments on the bar table. Ordered two enchiladas - one chicken and one cheese. The cheese enchilada tasted rancid. Had to ask for a napkin, knife and fork. Wait staff were all sitting around bored. The person I think was the manager was totally uninvolved and working very openly on an Apple laptop. I tried to find a web page to address the above with a Mi Rancho person but couldn't find a working site. The bartender Mike was the only saving grace for the joint. I won't be back.

Love Mi rancho. We have been going to the silver spring location since before I can remember. Recently we have started coming to the Rockville location. My whole family loves it the tortillas are so fresh they literally make them there in front of you to order. The fajitas are amazing chicken and beef. The owner also makes a lot of effort to go around to everyone and wants everyone to be having a good time. The Rockville location also has a great bar with really nice bar tenders! I feel like they weren't as good a few years ago as they are now but they're 5 stars in my opinion, other Mexican food restaurants just can't compete.

We tried this place for the first time tonight because someone recommended it........they must have been to the other location because this one was not good. We went around 8pm on a Monday night. They were not busy AT ALL which was not a good sign but we went inside anyway. I was really looking forward to eating outside, but all the chairs were stacked and outdoor seating was not an option this night. The waitress started out okay but once I asked her to "give me a minute more to look over the menu" - the service became slack. My minute became 10 - 15 minutes. Again - the place was EMPTY. The chips and salsa were tasty. The 6 oz. Sangria was more like a fruit cup with Maybe half a glass of Sangria ($5.95). I ordered the Chimichanga which was okay, but the rice and beans accompanying it were barely warm. A different server brought our food out and we never saw our original server again until we flagged down Another server to get our check. No refills, no "can I get you another drink, can I get you anything else, how is your food'? Never again. I may try the Silver Spring location. By the way, the online menus do not match the restaurant menus.

Mi Rancho is always an easy, fun location to go for lunch or dinner. The food has been consistently pretty good, and I like that they usually have a random soccer game playing at the bar. I'm actually a big fan of their beef taco salad. It is by far the closest thing I have found to the ones I grew up with in the Mid-West. The service here is sometimes a little slow, but always makes up for it with the free chips and salsa. Yum!

Didn't know that place is close to my house and so much spacious inside . I went for lunch to explore the food menu. I was welcomed with big basket of chips n salsa . Then I asked for something really spicy because I cant get taste of food if it's not spicy. The lunch menu was elaborate and seem to have have everything I would expect from an Mexican restaurant if I compare with any other restaurants in Los Angeles. Food was served after 8 mins so it was quick and hot for igniting my taste bud. The hostess was lovely and I could see they got a full bar and tv it would be good if they arrange a dance area for mariachi beats. The seating area might be accommodate 40 or more people. I ordered a lunch platter which was so filling. I would recommend try this Mexican place . Only disappointment was that they didn't have carnitas that day.

The place is alright. I had beef tacos and it honestly tasted like I could have made it or worse Taco Bell. My boyfriend seemed to like his meal, he had a combination platter. His was good.

"The carne asada was the best I've had. The steak arrives sizzling, very tender, and so-o-o-o favorful. The chips and salsa are as fresh as it gets. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. We had cosmo's and they were very good. No skimping on the alcohol here. Can't wait to go back!

I come here for 2 reasons....steak fajitas and cajetas. Steak fajitas are self explanatory. Tender, juicy strips of steak rolled between flour tortillas. Yum! Cajeta is their "fried ice cream" but it is not fried...well, the bowl is a fried flour tortilla. What is so special about ice cream? As a woman who is not a big sweets fan, I am insisting that you come try this!!! It is ice cream mixed with coconut, raisins, nuts and drizzled with caramel. I think there must be a little bit of run in the sauce...but this is really yummy stuff! I have gone to other restaurants and tried ordering it. I cannot count the number of times I have been disappointed so I have given up and I just come here for the ice cream! The free chips and salsa are yummy too! Tacos are $4 a la cart so you should just order the dinner for $12 which comes with 3 tacos, beans and rice. The tacos are very yummy. Lots of meat and cheese! I like the chicken quesadilla but the nachos were not what I was expecting. I guess i am used to a big pile of tortilla chips smothered with cheese, beans and other nacho toppings. The ones here are beans, cheese and your choice of meat on top of one chip and then broiled. Still good but you only get 8 or 10 chips and this way makes the chips soggy. I have seen the owner here and in Silver Spring. He seems really nice. He is the one who recommended I try the cajeta and I am hooked! Was that his plan all along? LOL

The first word that comes to mind is "greasy." It seems as with many Mexican (Tex Mex) restaurants in this area, they focus more on the outside than the cooking. My first red flag was the chips, which were light and greasy. The combination meals do not provide much of a "combination," and more two of each, such as tacos. Most of what we ordered was not edible and we left before finishing our meals. I'd skip this one if I were you.

I love the fact that this place is so spacious and well decorated. I even like the patio. Unfortunately the food just didn't cut it for the ridiculous price. The ingredients are all from cans rather than fresh. It's just poor quality for the price they charge. Our drinks were fantastic. The service was good. The cleanliness was less than ideal. If you're looking for a quick Mexican food fix and don't care about freshness or cost, this is the place for you. I won't be returning to Mi Rancho.

Great chimichanga, excellent flavor. Light and crispy and flaky like a croissant! Very rare and nice but the chicken was dry. Good beans and rice, excellent homemade tortilla chips. Pretty good flavor for salsa. So why isn't this at least a 4 as it should be for flavor? The service. It sucked. And beers were $2.25 for a corona light or miller light. So that was not too bad. Service sucked.

Meh. Chips and salsa were alright. Ceviche was decent. Carne asada was chewy and not that flavorful. Fajitas were alright and they forgot the tortillas until I asked for them. A bit expensive for meh food.

The food was great!!Customer service horrible. We sat at the bar as we do every place we go. It's Xmas eve @ approx 5pm so the place was empty. We ordered drinks and our meal which came pretty quickly . Then we were ignored the the remainder is our meal. The bartender talked to her friends who were the only other people here, it extremely inconsiderate and rude. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because the food was good. Will most likely not come back as I am big on customer service.

Had poor, slow service. Charged for small sides, even a small size of sour cream. Shrimp fajitas were awful, shrimp was very very fishy tasting, and slightly overcooked. This was my second time there and I was hoping it would redeem itself but sadly it was worse the second run through.

Not worth the money. Food is very tasteless. they don't how to use spices. They use ground beef for their chimichanga ( it's a Mexican food not steak and cheese ). Very disappointed and won't be back.

Yesterday, my mother and i had lunch at Mi Rancho on Rockville Pike. i asked the waitress whether the chips and tortillas were corn, and she said yes. She even asked whether i could eat flour, and I said no. Well, she was wrong and I got horribly sick half an hour after eating. The carne asada itself wasn't anything to write home about and my mother's taco salad looked unimpressive. The guacamole had no flavor and there wasn't enough, but honestly compared to how I felt afterwards, my main issue was about honesty of ingredients. The service itself was slow too - my mother had to ask three times for a cup of coffee and it didn't seem like they were very busy.

The food has no taste to it. The salsa is taken directly from a Jar bought at a cheap Mexican Grocery Store. This is probably the worst dinner experience. Wait staff were great though. I would never go back at any price.

I must say that I was shocked by my experience here according to reviews by previous Yelpers. The staff is very pleasant. I love the quaintness of the restaurant. It almost looks like a huge dining room, which makes it comfortable and homey to me. Their chips and salsa are delicious. The chips are extremely light, yet crispy and crunchy at the same time. Their goodness melts in your mouth. I ordered the beef taco salad. the right amount of everything. My taste buds urged me to slow down. It was so good that I plowed through the salad and demolished the salad bowl.

I eat at Mi Rancho once every few months. It's always been great food and good service. I went to eat there this evening and everything was good as usual until I took a bite and crunched on something that instantly broke in my mouth. I immediately spit it out in the napkin to find broken porcelain that looked like a part of a plate. There were chunks as well as slivers. As I went to pick up a piece from the napkin it stuck in my finger so luckily I managed to not swallow any of it. I alerted our server who took the plate to the manager. The server returned minutes later to apologize and comped my meal. THE MANAGER NEVER CAME OUT ONCE! Totally unacceptable. I'm not one to ever write reviews, but this just blew my mind. Sad to say that we probably won't ever return because of the poor service on the manager's part. I understand accidents happen, but at least acknowledge your customers when something goes wrong such as this.

I think it is really frustrating that you have to give a place even ONE star. In my opinion, this place deserves 0, no NEGATIVE stars. I used to enjoy this place, or at least the 2 previous times i have been here. Maybe that is because i sat at an actual table and not at the bar with literally the WORST bartender i have ever had the not so pleasurable experience of being waited on by. No Joke i think she HATED her job so mincredibly much or she was just extremely stupid. I am a bartender at a place in DC right across from, the verizon center. We are ALWAYS incredbily busy, but we have never had any bartender give such awful service to patrons even when we each have 50 tabs open. No joke there were 7 people sitting at the bar, 7!!!!!!!!!!!! and she acted like she couldnt handle it and was so incredibly flustered. 5 of the people were myself and my friends. There were 2 other guys at the other end of the bar. Things seemed to be ok for the first 5 minutes. We originally sat at a bar table and ordered a drink. We moved to the bar after 5 minutes and she came over and asked if we wanted to order. We reminded her that we had just ordered our drinks and she responds, "oh yeah, i was busy helping other people." im like ummmm what other people?? Anywho, she gives us our drinks and tells us we have 15 more minutes for HH food. We order an app before our friends get there and it came out and things seemed to be ok. One of my other friends came in, and it took about 10 minutes for the lady to come over and take her drink order. My boyfriend and i each ordered another round of the same thing and she had to ask what we had. Apparently her short term memory was non existent. My other two friends came in and they seemed to get their drinks somewhat quick. This is where things deteriorated quickly. We never got a 2nd basket of chips and salsa and the first one that my boyfriend and i had was empty. We had to wave her down so we could finally order some food and she told us to "hold on a second." She was washing glasses! She comes over and gets our order. We ordered the queso with Chorizo. She rudely asks, "do you know what Chorizo is?" um yes, we wouldnt have ordered it, idiot. She puts in our order but then asks again, "what did you want in your queso?" are you kidding me? We ask for some more chips. She NEVER brings the chips over. My other friend gets so mad that she walks to the other side of the bar where she is just standing there cutting fruit and tells my friends to hold on that she will do it in a few minutes. Oh im sorry that we got in the way of you cutting your fruit. Im pretty sure that that is something that should be prepped before your shift. I understand that if you are busy that you will run out. However, im pretty sure i heard crickets chirping, it was so dead in there. The rudeness level was just threw the roof. We attempted to order another round of drinks, that was a mistake. it took her 20 min to bring them. She never once apologized or asked how we were doing. She just seemed bothered by the fact that wewere asking her for stuff. Sorry that that is your job. The manager is around but doesnt seem to be doing anything. We wave him down and tell him we have been waiting on everything for so long and that it seems like she needs help. He does nothing. He asks my friend if she needs a drink and she switches from a margarita to a miller lite. He goes, "no, you cannot do that," in a jokingly, flirty voice. She was like, "this is NOT the time for that and is extrmeely inappropriate. He shakes her hand awkwardly and gives her the beer. My other friend in the meantime had been waiting for another 15 min for his second beer. We literally have to yell at her and she still does nothnig so the manager gets it for her. I seriously cant believe how retarded these people are. Both of these people should be fired, unless they want this place to fail miserably at some point. We had no more communication with her from the time we got our food until the time we left. She never once came over and apologized. She only came over to take our money. The manager did absolutely nothing for us. I lost it at that point. I dont try to get things for free but when i spent 2 hours of my life in that crap hole and didnt even enjoy one single thing and had nothing but attitude i expect something done to compensat. He saw me making such a fit that he finally took off a side of guacomole. Oh how nice of you! Our tab was $113, left $120! I said we should have left $0 but everyone else thought we should at least leave something. Coming from me that is a slap in the face because i have been a server/bartender for a long time and always tip 20% if not more. I will NEVER be back. Worst service of my entire life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STAY AWAY. Giving them one star is being too generous. Where to start... First of all, the food was awfully bland and incredibly overpriced. The vegetable quesadilla seemed like thawed frozen vegetables drowning in greasy cheese on a soggy tortilla. We all laughed because the salsa tasted like marinara sauce. The margaritas were so sweet and tasted like virgin margaritas. Secondly, the service left much to be desired. It took 30 minutes for our food to come out and we never received refills. Thirdly, when we asked for the check, the small pitcher of margaritas with barely any alcohol and obviously made with a premade mixer, was $30 and the gratuity was added to the check without any sign or notice indicating that it was a policy and it was an incredibly generous 20% tip considering the service we had received. I tip 20% regularly for good service but we weren't taken care of and the entire waitstaff and manager were just standing around goofing off. We asked for the check to be split and we were told that they don't do that but they will take separate cards for one check if we did the math, which didn't make much sense. We asked to speak to the manager and he wasn't helpful and even said when I pointed out that they charged me for an order they got wrong, that "it's only like a dollar more". I've never had such poor service from management and I and my friends who were there will not be returning and will be warning everyone we know as well. Though judging by the rating and other reviews, we're not the first ones to have a bad experience.

Yikes. As a native Texan and frequent mexican food eater, this place was not even sub par. It really was disgusting. The chips and salsa, to start, were meh. Not much taste and paper thin chips that tasted like cardboard. The food was overpriced and pretty gross. I've had better at Baja Fresh or Chipotle. Whatever they were "cooking" they tried to cover up with cheese....and gobs and gobs of it. It was so greasy and sopping wet that I couldn't touch it. They brought me another meal...same thing. TOO. MUCH. CHEESE. I want to actually taste the food, not just cheese. The service was okay. It wasn't awful, but it definitely wasn't great. We won't be going back to this restaurant, that's for sure. Try Guapos or Uncle Julios in Bethesda if you want better Mexican food.

Staff was super friendly in our last visit with my family and I. Waitress was very attentive and courteous, Manager stopped by a few times to check up. This location has always been preferred to me due to the ample size and seating. Food servings are always fair if you ask me, it's not overwhelming or to little. That's my opinion based upon other restaurants. Food has always been well served, cooked and presented. I last ordered the Chicken Chimichanga and the chicken was flavorful. I also got a chicken quesadilla which I think Mi Rancho has one of the best quesadillas around. Very Soft, not Messy, doesn't get soggy and tastes great. I asked for a Side of Jalapenos just for me and they brought me like a whole batch of Jalapenos. There was enough Jalapenos in that bowl to turn me into a Jalapeno lol. A bit much but better more than less right?

Based on the overall rating, I thought this place was going to be a train wreck. I came here for a birthday party. The host/hostess pre-ordered chicken, steak, shrimp and ribs fajitas. It came with a salad, rice, beans, guac and salsa. The food was good. It's not the best Mexican I've ever had. But it was tasty. The service was also good too. Maybe since we were a very large group of 40, they paid close attention to our group. But our experience was good.

Worst Tex-mex I have had in a while!! I came here despite the bad reviews thinking I might be pleasantly surprised but no luck! The salsa seems to be poured out of a jar and Costco guacamole may taste much better than what they serve!! I wish I had gone home and eaten frozen food rather than stopping here!

Anyone who's looking for proof that being away from Yelp makes your taste buds (and mental snark) numb, look no further than this guy. I vowed not to write another Yelp review until I found a job in D.C. (and then added a month for good measure). Case study time. The first time I tried this Tex Mex place by my place, I still had some Yelpitude left in my system. And I found it terrible. Looking down at my plate that was, theoretically, their cheese enchilada dinner, I almost sent back the greasy tomato paste and melted "cheese" that was present to me. Forcing the plate's contents down, I began to feel a bit sick to my stomach. But my ship's hull held and I have to say that the giant plate was at least filling and pretty inexpensive. Flash forward to my more recent visit and I got the same plate. I just wanted to be really full for an interview the next day and I craved a bit plate of Mexican that wasn't Qdoba (and this is, sadly, the closest "Mexican" place to my apartment). Months on, and less Yelp in my system, I actually enjoyed the enchiladas. The oily cheese on top was still disgusting, but the cheese inside was solid and flavorful. Or at least my devolving palette found it that way. But some things remained the same. The entire waitstaff (who outnumbered the customers) was too busy talking by the back register to realize that waters (and even their chips and surprisingly delicious salsa) were going unfilled. Or to even bring a bill when the main plate was empty. Now I understand this is Rockville and they're not competing against any real Mexican restaurants. But there are still people who would rather give a place like this business than the Ruby Tuesdays down the street. So they should at least try to earn a customer's business through food or service. Imagine if I were still a Yelper. I might have even wrote a more scathing review of this restaurant fail and had it carry some weight. ;)

Meh. It was nothing special but the prices were not appropriate for what you get. I call it Minnesota Mexican, as the flavors were bland and boring. It was totally fine if you expect something only slightly better than Taco Bell.

We did a party of 10 on short notice and had an excellent array of foods, including ceviche, a bunch of platters, fajitas, both steak and fish. Margaritas rocked and frankly I can't figure out why they have only 2 stars. Will come again.

Well, I'll dovetail off of Spencer C's recent review of this particular Mi Rancho locale. He hit them up for a decline in service and some disgusting observations, I'll hit them up for the utter disappearance of their service. We'd been to this location before. And quite enjoy it, as well as the Silver Spring location. It's solid food. Or was. We arrived at 7:40 or so. We sat down right away in a rather empty restaurant. There were maybe 10 tables tops. Our waiter (Hey, if y'all get Raleigh, Rawley, whatever...run!) started out great. Greeted us, was friendly, talked beer with me a bit. Got us our beer, took our app order and our dinner order (Taquitos and the 1 lb fajita dish meant for sharing). He brought our drinks and.....that was that. From 7:40 to 8:40 we sat, ignored. Here's what we observed while we sat and got ignored. Zero sign of our server, good ole Rawley. Another young lady came to clear our chips and salsa which we had long since finished and offered us some more. We declined, assuming maybe our app would at least be forthcoming. We got no water refills. No more beer/margarita. And damn sure no food. The manager (the owner's newphew, from what I've read) stood at the table RIGHT BESIDE OURS chatting up to attractive young ladies for a good 15 minutes, glancing in our direction more than a few times to see our empty ass table and our pissed off scowls. I sort of assumed he'd speak to us after he got done with them. Nah. He went on. Eventually, after literally 30 minutes of just plain being gone, ole Rawley comes wandering past us to welcome a new table and take their order. He walked by, gave us a couple furitive glances, and said NOTHING again. At that point I threw down what I guessed was a enough cash to cover our drinks and we walked. No scene. No big deal. I sort of wanted to see if they'd notice or say anything (hey, Rawley, owner's newphew/manager, and a couple waitresses were at the bar right beside where we were sitting in our booth). Nothing. I'm done with this place. If they have mice running amok and ignore cockroaches, maybe our food was sitting under a heating lamp while Rawley horsed around and ignored us giving sustenance to some rodents. Done. Too bad, too, cos I did like it. But there are too many better options out there. Thanks to Yelp, we found a different place to eat tonite. Take heed...this place has apparently gone to crap. And if Spencer C's review is right, it could be for the best that we didn't get our food.

I was excited to try a Mexican restaurant close to our new place. I should've noticed walking in on a Saturday night that the place wasn't very good based on the fact half the tables were empty! Rather than drone on about the overall horrible experience, I'll hit the main points: Paid $5.95 for a small bowl of Velveeta cheese (what was Tex-Mex about this??) $7.95 for a kids meal, then they charge me an extra $1.95 for milk. Soda was the included drink. This is what is wrong with America. Food had no flavor and nothing about it was Tex-Mex. Dissapointed! Will NOT return.

I've been here several times, and the fajitas are a must. They are delicious! Steak, chicken, or both...you can never go wrong with ordering this. I prefer the steak over the chicken, but both are tasty. The steak is marinated well and packs lots of flavor. The chicken is juicy and seasoned well. The guacamole and pico de gallo are nice additions to your fajita, but the freshly made flour tortillas are where it's at. MmMmM so good, so good! If it wasn't for the fajitas and fresh tortillas, Mi Rancho would have gotten two stars. The other food items, not so much. I've tried the chimichanga (with steak instead of beef)...eh. More recently I ordered the Plato Maria. This came with a chicken enchilada, cheese chile relleno, chicken taco al carbon, and a pork tamle all for $15.99. What can I say, I was eye hungry! Don't judge. I just couldn't decide what to eat, and I wanted to venture out of my usual fajitas. This meal was so huge, that they couldn't even fit it all on one plate. yelp.com/biz_photos/1SKV… My chile relleno had to be brought out on it's on plate! yelp.com/biz_photos/1SKV… Everything in this combination plate was either okay or eh. I really could have cared less for the chille rellano. The pepper wasn't cooked fully, and the breading was just gross. At least the cheese oozed out when I cut into it? I don't know. The pork tamale didn't really have any pork in it, which was too bad since this was probably the one dish that had the most potential. The chicken enchilada was okay, nothing spectacular. The chicken taco al carbon, now I thought this would be good. Wrong. It came with the same strips of chicken that comes with the fajitas, but yet it didn't taste as good. The tortilla that it came with also didn't taste like it was freshly made. Bleh. I probably only ate about a third of my meal because it wasn't very satisfying. I do have to say that the Plato Grande is also a good deal, and is generally pretty good. Can be made for one or two people, and comes with shrimp, ribs, mixed fajitas, and fresh tortillas. Depending on how hungry you are, the Plato Grande for one could be good enough for two. I found the service here to be pretty good. Attentive, friendly staff who don't mind answering your questions. Will I be back? Possibly, but only for their fajitas and cheap alcohol (stick with the beer, I wasn't too fond of their margaritas).

So, Mi Rancho took over the space where the Rockville On The Border used to be. I miss On The Border, so I was pleased to see another Tex-Mex restaurant in its place. I've been here three or four times since being back, and I must say I am surprised by the negativity of the reviews. Is the best Tex-Mex I've ever had? No. Is it as good as On The Border was? No. But I have had uniformly good service and the quality of the food is solid. I have gotten the Tijuana special (2 cheese enchiladas, a pork tamale and a beef taco) all but once (not sure what I got the other time) and I thought it was tasty each time (though the tamales aren't my fave). Like the salsa too. Not a bad pick at all in my opinion and prices are pretty reasonable.

Yuck, this was horrible. I had cheese enchiladas and a top-shelf margarita. I love cheese, but this was ridiculous. The proportion of cheese to enchilada was inedible. I stupidly ordered it with a "white" sauce thinking it would be interesting to see what that was. I'd never heard of a Mexican white sauce. Turns out it was a really bad bechamel sauce. Doesn't belong anywhere near Mexican food and it was a horrible combination.

I'm being generous with one star. This was the blandest, greasiest "Tex-Mex" food I've ever had. No idea how they're paying the rent on this space. Will not return.

Where to start with this.... 1) the server couldn't get any of our orders correct while we were telling her. 2) service was slow. 3) my friend ordered the veggie burrito with no cheese, but it came out covered in cheese. 4) when they fixed the burrito the veggies in it were frozen veggies that weren't cooked all the way and were runny. 5) my husband's food came out with a bug crawling on the plate. 6) when the manager came to talk to us you could tell he was annoyed and was hardly apologetic. He took the food back and didn't charge us. We found another Mexican restaurant down the street that was 110% better. I will NEVER eat at this place again.

Staff very friendly, the food was awful. I got enchiladas and they were very bland. Will never come back to this restaurant. Taco Bell meat probably better quality!! Stay away

Good foods for Tex-mex, but it could be because this area is a bit lacking and I was willing to pay a little bit more for the taste.

I only went here because it is one of my friend's favorite restaurants and he has basically gone here for every single special occasion in his entire life. So he will kill me when I say that it was largely a disappointing meal. This was probably exacerbated by that fact that my parents came along and were extremely disgruntled that we didn't go to the Cheesecake Factory because of the two-hour wait. They kept saying unsupportive things like "Mexican food is very simple" and "we want more free chips." I got the the steak fajitas, which were genuinely good. But the enchiladas to my right were cold and uninspired. The chile relleno was soggy; the breading on the outside adopted an eerie sponge-like quality. And the small portions of guacamole are served on a bed of equally green lettuce to create an optical illusion that you're getting way more than you actually are. So for once, and probably never again, I am going to agree with my parents. Mi Rancho doesn't do Mexican food any justice.

I love their Fajitas and their Nachos mi Rancho appetizer. As well as their Frozen Strawberry-Banana Margarita. Their Ceviche is really yummy as well. The decor is the usual Mexican-adobe colored walls with wall decorations of Sombreros and such. My mom and I usually just come here to grab a couple of drinks and chit chatat the bar tables. When we come, it's usually pretty empty (maybe they're not getting that much business?), but it's a little bit of a tradition for us since before it was even Mi Rancho (it used to be On the Border). So, I'll obviously be returning since I have been for awhile. Habit, you know?

All you can find at your average Tex-Mex restaurant. The one-pound mixed fajita dish was just enough to satisfy the hubs and I. And for $25 it was worth it. Service was friendly and attentive enough that no water glass was left empty and extra tortilla shells were received when requested. The dessert options were interesting. My plantain empanada was interesting - "rice pudding" puree wrapped in a plantain shell wrapped empanada-like. Tasty, but alright. The sopapilla was tasty but some pieces were too thick and doughly and not fried tortilla shell light. Have to give them props to offer these optiosn in the first place.

The worst meal I have ever eaten.....actually I didn't eat it. Sunday afternoon and it is literally empty. There are more staff than customers. I paid $50 for two sodas, two meals and one watered down and packed with ice margarita. Don't spend $6 on the Margarita! Meat was tasteless and ribs were beyond dry. I ate half a tortilla with some meat and guacamole. I'm not sure the meat was "ok" either, it had a funny after taste and smelled past its date. You get barely any food for the $19.95 price tag. Hubby ate a burrito, he said it was ok, better then my dish but hardly worth what we paid. Just a sad horrible meal. I took mine home to feed the dog, but I threw it out, didn't want to risk getting him sick from it. I regret so much not walking out when I saw no one else there. The place is very dark and dingy, not like the Mexican restaurant that used to be there before Mi Rancho. It used to be colorful and happy looking. I honestly hate posting bad reviews as my parents have been restauranteurs all my life and my brother is a Chef who works all over the world, so I know how hard it is running a restaurant, but this was a bad meal in a bad eatery. How these people have managed to open three locales is beyond me.

WOW! Mi Rancho in Rockville is getting killed on Yelp! I've gone to the Silver Spring location a few times in the past but haven't gone lately b/c the wait was getting so long and service couldn't keep up. My 3 star rating for this location is for just drinks. I'll be honest, my friends and I went to MatchBox after dinner but it was so crowded that we drove down to Mi Rancho hoping for some space. We got more than we bargained for- it was DEAD inside. I honestly felt bad. I saw who I think is the owner walking around talking to the customers trying to boost satisfaction. He even thanked us for coming when we were leaving. Oh- back to the drinks. Love how affordable it is- especially if you get a pitcher of margarita. It's good and strong. Half pitcher only costs $14! Free chips *yay*! The salsa left a lot to be desired- good consistency but NO spice. Add some jalapenos please! I know logic (from all the bad reviews) should steer me clear from the food but I actually want to come back and try out a full meal. Since a lot of the reviews are from late 2009, I'm hoping they've learned to step up their game! Judging from the reviews though, it might already be too late. You gotta be on your game during opening week cause that leaves a lasting impression, Mi Rancho! I'll update soon!

This place has gone really downhill. I don't remember it being as bad as I experienced the other night. We got cheese dip, expecting queso dip - and got VELVEETA?! I thought, surely this can't be velveeta, but it definitley was. The beef flautas tasted like Jose Ole ones from the grocery store :( Very sad and disapointing for $12. I would prefer Taco Bell over this place, and the prices at T Bell are way better as well as the food!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
