Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Peking Palace had excellent szechuan dishes. Unfortunately, it recently closed.

Not the best Chinese food I've had. I ordered shrimp and mixed veggies with sauce on the side, but something about the shrimp just tasted off. Not sure what it was, but I've eaten this dish a hundred times and I can tell when it just ain't right. The meal I ordered also came with a chicken wing (random), an egg roll and fried rice. The egg roll was ok. The fried rice was nothing special. I do like that they sell Canada Dry green tea ginger ale, which unfortunately, was the highlight of my meal.

Ordered the Sechewaun Beef lunch No delivery, I picked it up Most of the Styrofoam container was fried rice. Since this was not delivery I would have expected the rice to be hot and moist. Well...no. the rice was dry throughout and was cold. As far as taste, it was bland and not very appealing. The Beef Sechewaun was also dry. Not many flavor notes other than sweetness. I did not eat more than 1 bite. The 2 stars is for the egg roll. It was hot and crisp with just the right texture of cabbage to make a pleasant bite

My family and I continue to enjoy the food here! Awesome authentic dishes and great portions for the price!

It's been years since I worked in a Chinese restaurant in West Texas. They had the best fried won ton I've ever tasted. Since then, I've been trying to find some as good. So far no luck. Peking Palace's won ton didn't come close. Their lemon chicken was almost flavorless with a sauce that was way too tart. Based on the reviews which were all over the place, I expected better.

I love this place. There aren't too many quality affordable lunch options in the Germantown area, so I find myself here almost once a week. Peking Palace offers a variety of lunch specials priced at $5.99 and $6.99, all of which come with a large egg roll and cup of soup. They also offer a "traditional" menu, which boasts some of the better Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup that I have been able to find in the area. The owner is extremely friendly, and caters to a wide clientele. Unfortunately they don't offer their lunch buffet any longer (probably good for my waist line), but the lunch specials are a great replacement. Peking Palace is definitely worth a try.

We really like the food here. Always order from the Chinese menu, and ask for recommendations. They are very happy to describe the dishes to you. I am a spicy food fan, and this place can really do spicy. The tiger skin pepper is very close to what I ate growing up in Chengdu. We've always had good service when we dined-in. We never had the buffet or anything off the English menu, nor ordered take-out or delivery, so cannot speak to the service issues or quality of food mentioned in other reviews...

Decent Chinese food. Known for its legendary lunch buffet for $7.99 but recently changed that out for lunch specials with $5.59 & $6.99 choices. Owner Tracey told me roughly 10 people a day would get the buffet so she stopped offering it. The lunch special menu has a good selection of standard Chinese dishes to choose from (picture included). For that you get an egg roll, choice of soup & fried rice. I chose Kung Pao chicken with wonton soup. Egg roll was very good, rice done perfectly & chicken dish very tasty. Big portions too! I was disappointed not having a buffet but since I left stuffed & still had leftovers to take home I can say the buffet will not be missed. With the new format you at least get freshly cooked food. With a buffet you really don't know when the food was cooked. Try the lunch specials...You may be surprised.

I've eaten at every Chinese restaurant in Germantown. I order Chinese food minimum 3 days a week. This is by far the best Chinese food in Germantown. The lady that answers the phone is the best. So nice... She always hooks me up with free wings or a couple egg rolls. I don't even ask for it. Back to the food, great portions, great quality food and quick delivery. This is my new spot... Old Shanghai lost a customer, except when in in the mood for sushi. Peking Palace gets it right when it comes to Chinese food. The best!!! #PekingPalace

Friendly, cheap, and tasty are the winning combo. I especially enjoy the scallion pancakes and veggie lo mein. They offerbthai, chenese, and Indian options but I've only tried chinese.

Tried this place for the first time this week. Good food and decent prices. Portions were huge and delivery was quite fast too.

I have no idea why Peking Palace is only rated 3.5 stars... This place is amazing. My family has been a long standing customer for as long as I can remember. Chinese food places in the other areas of the eastern US I have lived in always fail in comparison! This place rocks! Big fan of the ginger scallion chicken (we request extra spicy) and steamed dumplings!

Best Hunan restaurant in East Coast! Born in China, I'm so happy to find this place in DC area. Be sure to try it if you like hot food. The Hunan Smoke Pork is definitely a gem!!!! I licked the plate after finished.

Ordered delivery and food took over an hour. Dry and taseless fried rice with no veggies in it!! Dry and tasteless orange chicken. Absolutely horrible!!

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants and one of more authentic Chinese restaurants in the DC metro area. The waitress was always very nice and friendly. She could chat with you in Chinese. They have a Chinese menu as well. I love their spicy fish and other Sichuan dishes! Price is decent as well. I have been there many times, and always liked everything I ordered.

I really dislike the lunch special here... They're not that fresh & don't taste that good; don't even bother. Their entree's a little better. The portion's decently big, the price's around $10.00 or more & the taste's meh; pretty authentic however. Garlic Liver Home Style ($10.95) - This dish is actually well made. Most liver if not done right will be tough and smell really strong. This was probably the best dish I've ever gotten from this place lol. Beef Hun Fun Noodle ($7.95) - Comes with the salty black bean. This is just ok...

Describing it as 'Authentic Hunan food' is a little bit overstate, but the food is great here. The service is also great too. My wife and I loved this place.

Im giving this restaurant one star because giving it NO star is not an option... I ordered a dinner combination chicken lo mein that came with two chicken wings (actually it was ONE chicken wing that they cut-one drum stick and one wing). The food was disgusting. All the oil used in the lo mein was at the bottem. Also, they use cheap thigh meat and not chicken breast....the food was not good Chinese food and for those who gave it a high Rating must be used to eating poor quality, greasy, Chinese food....also, the place smelled musty, the bathroom is gross and you know it's gross when the light switch is all brown from never being cleaned. I believe a restaurants bathroom is a reflection of its KITCHEN!

hawaii & san diegans -- if you want chinese food -- DO NOT GO HERE! ordered: house pan fried noodle with white sauce string beans with beef mapo tofu white rice pan fried noodles: noodles were excellent! white sauce is ALWAYS better than brown sauce...ALWAYS! the veggies, meat, seafood in this dish was disgusting! the veggies had a perfume/floral taste. veggies tasted nothing like vegetables. the charsiu/roast pork tasted like bad breath, it was not fresh or savory. string beans with beef: i liked the way they cut/sliced the beef into strips similar to the string beans -- that made for a nice presentation. the beef tasted great, it tasted like beef with a nice coating of sauce flavoring. again, the veggies had an odd perfume/floral taste. mapo tofu: despite not being the gravy with pork style of mapo tofu that i am used to, i didn't enjoy this as much. it was very spicy...that was awesome. but it was too oily for my liking. the tofu didn't taste fresh, it also had a floral taste. i think their fridge must be filled with flowers or some sort of floral thing, because the floral taste penetrated everything! white rice: how can an asian place get white rice wrong. it was old (that was fine, cause we make a huge pot of rice at home and eat it over two days). but it was hard! they didn't prepare it properly :/ despite friendly workers and quick service, i wouldn't recommend going here. it isn't the best chinese i've had from across the US -- honolulu, hawaii, everett, washington, san diego, california, virginia beach, virginia. i will say that i haven't enjoyed any chinese food in northern virginia :( please, someone, help me find a decent chinese restaurant! **will post pictures later**

Excellent food. They have excellent selection of vegetarian food. Their food is the best Chinese food in the area, able to satisfy those who like and don't like spicy food. They have the best service. Very friendly family ruin restaurant.

Definitely one of the best restaurants and the best Chinese restaurant around. Would give more stars if possible. The service is great, especially the owner. They'll remember you, customize your order, be generous and throw in free food, and treat you like family (which they are family orientated). If you ask for recommendations the owner will always deliver and satisfy. Their delivery service can be slow at times but usually during rush hour or busy eating times. They even catered to my cousins graduation party, everybody enjoyed it. The restaurant itself is homey and very authentic. If you like spicy food and real Asian food, try the home style menu. I've never gone to another Chinese restaurant after finding this one, they don't seem to compare. They have a wide variety of choices for every taste preference and overall they have pretty decent prices and outstanding service. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone willing to listen.

This restaurant is located on the same block as Lotte (the Korean supermarket), closer to Citibank and Dunkin' Donuts. I've passed by the area many times, but the restaurant was easy to overlook. For two weekends in a row, my friend and I ordered the Shredded Beef with Pickled Chili ($12.95). It's spicy and served with an herb (basil?). The combination is mouthwateringly delicious, and this is the first time I'veenjoyed this herb. (I'm not sure why it's called Pickled, but the dish isn't sour at all.) The other dishes that we've ordered so far have been so-so (a lamb dish and the Tea Tree Mushroom special as pictured). The Tea Tree Mushrooms were stringy and tough. They were nice, but service could have been better. On a Saturday night, they're very busy, and it's unfortunate that they're either understaffed or haven't figured out how to run their operations. The first waitress didn't write our order down, and we waited and waited. Dishes came out for the other tables, and then another waitress asked what we ordered. As we were leaving, they asked us again what we ordered so that they could prepare our bill.

I came here to eat with a Hunan food expert and apparently a good selection of the dishes is quite on point in terms of authenticity. I don't know the name of any of the dishes he ordered, so unfortunately I couldn't tell you :( Just ask for authentic tasting Hunan dishes, for pork, fish, peppers, etc I wouldn't say it's my favorite Hunan/Sichuan (spicy) style restaurant (personally prefer Sichuan Jin river in Rockville, and Hunan Taste in Baltimore a bit more) but if you plan to treat Chinese folks who just came from China, and want to impress them with your knowledge of authentic tasting Chinese food in America, I guarantee you this will, as well as satisfy their taste buds more so than the popular Sichuan Jin River, surprising right? This place is a real gem I guess considering it doesn't get nearly as much hype as it deserves. And I was surprised that most of the food goers during our lunner (lunch/dinner) here were American, not Chinese. Hmm

This place is a real find...A REAL FIND! It is a freakishly well kept secret. Ladies and gentlemen, this restaurant may be the only...I say, the ONLY restaurant in the entire DC area that specializes in authentic Hunan cuisine. That's right...the only one. Hunan, as we all know, is a province in China. It is located in the southern part of the country and is famous for its culinary tradition and its food, which is subtle yet spicy. It is not a particularly well known cuisine as, comparitively, it is overshadowed by the far more common and far more available cuisine of Sichuan Province. Of course, the word "Hunan" itself has appeared in countless restaurant names (e.g., Hunan Garden or Hunan Inn, etc.) and names of selected dishes (e.g., Hunan Beef or Hunan Shrimp, etc.). So, "Hunan food" is seemingly familiar and everywhere. The catch is that the ubiquitous use of the word is nearly always inaccurate and misleading. This has turned "Hunan" into an empty designation, into something that has been de-nuded and come to mean simply "Chinese" or "spicy" (in a kind of generic and antiseptic sense). However, here, at this restaurant, they actually serve "Hunan" food. One of their main chefs is from Hunan and specializes in cooking food from Hunan Province. Customers can select from many Hunan specialties. However, it gets a bit complicated. This is because there are at least two authentic menus. By that, I mean, that the traditional Hunan specialties (along with accompanying Sichuan specialties) are written up and printed on an off-gray sheet in Chinese characters. There is a facsimile of this sheet that is written in English and which is printed on a pink sheet. Therefore, there are two separate sheets; but, the English menu of authentic specialities is not a direct item-for-item translation of the Chinese menu because it leaves out some dishes from the Chinese menu that are deemed "too authentic" (that is, simply "too far out" for the Western palate)...featuring such offerings as rabbit. And, I haven't even mentioned the Americanized menu, which features the tried and true standards like Shrimp Fried Rice and the like (and which, really, we should all just ignore anyway, right?). How many restaurants (even other Chinese restaurants...many of which are prone to having multiple menus) has as many as three separate menus for three sets of clientele? It's insane. It takes the whole mythology of the "secret menu" to the next level. But, oh yes, the food...so many choices...literally so many choices!! I tried the Hunan version of cumin lamb. The lamb was cut into stir fry strips (a bit heftier and larger than the usual stir fry size) and wedded with chili flakes and cumin. The meat was tender and flavorful (though, the heft of the indiviudal pieces of lamb was, arguably, less appealing than the thinner Sichuan cut that I am used to). And, instead of something like chopped leeks (which is preferable), the base vegetable consisted of onions. My second dish, which was the steamed smoked pork in black bean sauce, was my favorite of the two. This Hunan specialty consisted of pieces of pork belly that had been smoked and, then, steamed with a topping (not really a sauce) of black beans. An added layer of chili flakes capped off the savory concoction. Biting into each piece of meat (which were less than optimally tender), nonetheless, presented a contrast in textures as the flesh, gelatinous skin, random pieces of cartilage, and fat melded together into a wonderful flavor; and, the black beans and chilis created a salty and spicy mix that danced on top of the pork. I must come back at some point and try other items too (many of which I have never seen before on any Chinese menu). Selections like: Chi Bi Tofu with Pork, Crispy Chicken with Three Kinds of Peppers, and Pine Nuts and Corn in Light/Sweet Sauce. Have you seen any of these before? Has this place eluded the uninitiated because it is located in far flung Germantown...on the upper fringes of the DC area? The owner, who I chatted at length with, told me that her restaurant is packed with Chinese patrons on the weekends. I never knew. They certainly aren't yelping. And, who would guess that in a Chinese restaurant named for the city of "Peking," which has been called "Beijing" since the 1980s, by the way, and which is at least a thousand miles from Hunan, would serve authentic Hunan food? Oh, the misguided logic and the utterly bewildering naming conventions that Chinese restaurants practice...Would a restaurant specializing in Memphis BBQ call itself, "Philadelphia Palace?" But, who cares...it's all done just to keep you from (drum roll, please)...the secret menu. Oh, the elusive secret menu.

My folks love this place. Why? Its beyond me. I tell my mama, that she deserves so much better than to settle for mediocre Chinese food. I have always been a picky eater. So if Im paying $20 for a whole duck I better see Duffy Ducks bill! lol. What did I get? lets start off with the pancakes. Peking Duck you get pancakes instead of rice and noodles. They are suppose to be thin separated. Instead, I got pancakes that stuck together. They were so hot that it busted through the foil. The meat was overcooked and the meat was hard and charred. Spring onions werent fresh either :(. So I get my crab wontons. Those were good. I got Chicken Chow mein. Now that was good but I was expecting the crunchy noodles. general tsos was a bit sour in my book they lose a star automatically. The owners are nice but fail on service. They are more concerned about each other and conversing among each other. Which I believe why they lack in quality. Now we always spend a lot of $ here and when you place large orders they always throw in a free crabmeat wontons and chicken fried rice but if the rice is overcooked or gummy you are scaring your customers. I do give them props on their szchuwan (sp) wontons. Those were good but you need a jug of water nearby.

This is my favorite place to get Chinese food in the Germantown area because the people are super friendly and the service is pretty top notch considering they usually only have 2-3 people working the floor. The food here is always fabulous but a word to the wise if you don't like or can't handle a lot of hot spice DO NOT get anything spicy. The spicy dishes here are exactly that, they will clear your sinuses and you'll be sweating and for chili heads that's a great thing! Anyways dishes, on the Authentic menu everything is pretty outstanding with true Chinese flavors. Here are a few of my go-to dishes: Cumin Lamb, Spicy Braised Beef Shank with Tofu, Szechuan Green Beans and Eggplant with Ground Pork. Like I said above be careful ordering their spicy dishes because it will be SPICY! As with most Chinese Restaurants you can tell how good it will be based on the demographic that frequent the establishment and this place is no exception. It's a good place to practice speaking Chinese, if you're learning.

I've been in the area for about 8 months and I haven't found ANY decent Chinese food until Peking Palace! Thank goodness! I mean, I don't even like Chinese food THAT much, but I knew that if I went a couple more months without it, I'd probably say that I lived in the middle of nowhere. Peking Palace is great. They serve both the Americanized Chinese menu and the real Chinese menu.. all with a great selection! The beef with broccoli was on point and the hot and sour soup was delicious! The staff is also very friendly. I'd definitely come again and try their "Chinese" menu.

ok, so i wanted to be selfish and keep this to myself, but i have a loose mouth and can't seem to keep secrets...apologies for the long review =P. i really really really like this place, one of the best chinese restaurants i've tried in this VA/DC/MD region in 2.5 yrs of my residence here! moving from so-cal, the snob in me must say, that's saying quite a bit! it may not be the most amazing chinese place i've eaten at in my ?? yrs of existence but it's sure damn well one of the best places in this area! (well, i can't claim too much an authenticity since i've never been to hunan, china, let alone china, but i do say having been to taiwan several times, i heart taiwan and have an appreciation for chinese food, hell, i have an appreciation for good food in general!, well at least that's what i like to think =P). having said that, most dishes we tried were unfamiliar to me, but with a familiar taste, if that makes sense. like what others have mentioned, they have 2 sets of menus, to cater to both a more americanized taste and one for more asian taste. having said that, they aren't shy about msg... but i LOVE msg and have grown up with it, so i'm biased =P. note, their menu online has more dishes listed in chinese than there are translated to english. we had: 1) the cumin lamb (had better, but this is pretty good too), 2) minced pork w/ pickled cabbage (i really liked this, spicy and well melded, good with rice) (then again, i am a rice whore...=X), 3) spicy chicken with hot peppers (def. tasted the msg here, but loved it, love the szechuan peppers they put here too..mm.. that numbing peppercorn YUM!), 4) the common eggplant dish (beautifully done, purple on eggplant was very vibrant, but like most places, this dish tends to be on the oilier side.. still yum), 5) tofu hot pot - like dish (my fav of the 5, really really really well made and seasoned.. some herbs were fried and then oils and crisped herbs added to dish, def brought out the flavors of the herbs and made the dish just so well melded) good service, good recommendations (maybe because we came in speaking chinese =P), and good food! what more can i say, i'm def coming back =).

Great food, pleasant place and very polite service! The hot and sour soup was spicy and tasty. The meat dumplings were fresh and tasty. Entrees were ample and delicious. May be the best chinese food around.

The worst Chinese food my family and I have ever had. Not only that, but it was very expensive. We ended up spending $50 and throwing it out. Never again.

So I thought this place was another place I had ordered from months ago that was really good... but it was disgusting... the dumplings tasted like who knows what kind of meat... the kung pao chicken was nasty... the lettuce wraps came in this soupy strange UNchinese-like sauce and the lo mein was spicy as heck... i have never been anywhere that spices their lo mein like that... complete WASTE of $30... i actually THREW the food away after TRYING REALLY HARD to eat it (didn't want to waste my money)... after taking 3 bites... i couldn't even eat anymore without wantig to vomit and now i am not even hungry... STAY FARRRRRRRRRRR AWAY!

Easily the best Chinese food in Germantown. It's not that Germantown is known for great Chinese, like maybe Rockville. However, Peking Palace has been around for 20 years, and is the shining star for Germantown Chinese food. There are two menus. One menu for those who enjoy the more Americanized Chinese (really there is no such dishes in China like General Tso's or Szechuan Chicken). The other menu is one which features authentic Chinese dishes. They do the Americanized Chinese dishes well. Not ultra super incredible, but quite satisfactory indeed. The prices are all reasonable for the portion sizes. I like the fried rice, the orange chicken, the szechuan chicken, double cooked pork, triple delight, and the egg rolls. If you have an adventurous side, or if by chance you know what you are ordering, then order from the authentic menu. I like the green pepper chicken chinese style. If there is one great way to judge a Chinese restaurant, it is what percentage of the customers are Chinese. Peking Palace is popular amongst the Chinese community, and so that backs up it's authentic menu. If you're in Germantown, give it a try! You have nothing to lose, and knowledge of a great restaurant to gain.

Started going to this place in the mid-80s. Food used to be excellent but went downhill once management changed. The final straw for my family was finding long, gray hair in our take out not once but on two separate occasions.

Decided to try this place out with my boyfriend for their lunch buffet. The price is right ($7.25/person with tax for buffet, soup, and tea). The food was good, but not necessarily spectacular. It's typical of buffet food. When our server found out my boyfriend was vegetarian, she went in the back to have them make him a vegetarian egg roll. That was certainly an unexpected and pleasant surprise! (Actually, boyfriend is pescatarian. If you're a real vegetarian, the buffet will be pretty slim pickings. The regular menu had plenty of vegetarian dishes, tho!) I'm definitely interested in trying the food from their regular menu and we may try them for delivery sometime soon.

This place was recommended by one friend, who used to hang around in Germantown. It is one of the best known Hunan restaurant in DC area, which is famous for the spicy food. This morning I drove all the way from Fairfax, Virginia to Germantown. However I don't believe the food here deserves my efforts. To be fair, the dish here are not bad, but give it a four star might be a bit complimentary. The service is quite good, quite to my surprise. The lady and gentleman kept on engaging with us, hoping to find any way to better service us.

  • Yingwen X.

Many of my colleagues from China or India like the authentic spicy Sichuan and Hu Nan food here. The dishes we order most are wild mountain pepper beef, three pepper chicken, water boiled fish or sliced tofu &fish. They are all very spicy and flavorful. The not spicy dish we often order is stir fried shredded potato.

My family and I have been coming here for years now....22 years to be exact. Living in Germantown back in the day was kinda hit or miss with restaurants, if ya know what I mean. The food here at Peking Palace is consistently good! Their egg rolls are the best I've ever had. Noodle dishes are my fave, 1 being the combination lomein. It's full of delicious chicken, shrimp and pork. Chunks of the stuff, not dried out strips of meat like at other Chinese places. We also got the Taiwanese style noodle dish with roast pork, chicken and shrimp. YUM! It was my first time having it and now it's my new fave. Another new dish I tried was the ginger and scallion pork soup. You HAVE to try this soup! The ginger does not over power the soup. It delicately compliments the pork. This soup comes out in a rather large bowl. You could share or just make a meal of it :) I really wish I had taken pictures of the food, as it all looked amazing. I will next time I go :)

After moving to Germantown a month ago, my boyfriend and I have been trying to find our go-to Chinese place. Last night, we tried Peking Palace and could not have been more disappointed. We ordered delivery and it took them almost 90 minutes to get to us. When I called after an hour, the lady told me all 3 of their drivers were out and I should have my food in 5 minutes. No offer to comp some of our food, no apology, nothing. Then we get to the food. For Chinese take-out, it is way overpriced. For just my boyfriend and I, 2 dinners cost us $20.88. No combos, no egg rolls, nothing. I did not have a menu when ordering, so I didn't know about their (slightly) cheaper combos until after. They did not offer them to me over the phone. Add that to how long it took to get our food, and we were expecting something amazing. Unfortunately, their food was just okay. The rice was a little gluey and our main dishes were not all that hot. Overall, this place is fine, but not worth the extreme wait we faced and the price we paid. We will definitely be moving on to another Chinese place in the area.

Tried this place out due to all the positive yelp reviews. We usually order from Cafe Hong Kong (Germantown Town Center), which is ok. Nothing special...just your standard Chinese-American food. I expected something different, or at the least worst the same type of food. We ordered the combo meals off of the tip on yelp. The delivery came pretty quickly - they said 45 minutes, but it was about 25. The price was pricey, but I think Chinese food is always a little expensive for carry-out/delivery. The chicken in the spring rolls and chicken lo mein was disgusting. The chicken in the lo mein was grisly and didn't taste much like chicken. My husband had general tso's and bit hard into bone and gristle. The fried chicken that came with the combo meal was disgusting. My husband took one bite and threw it out. After we ate a small plate of our food, we ended tossing the rest out. Waste of money. We won't be ordering from here again.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city.
