I will be honest I am not big on chain restaurants. But champps has the best service I have seen in a restaurant. We were there about 3 weeks ago. I ordered chicken nachos and saw no chicken. A manager came over apologized and assured there was 6oz of chicken but it may be covered by the massive amount of chips. He then offered to remake them with more chicken or if I wanted another meal. For our hassles he even gave us a coupon for a free hamburger. I was not searching for anything free nor did that single act make the service great but everybody was friendly and welcoming. I will be back here.

Sports Bar on Steroids that tries to have a fine dining establishment inside. I enjoy it and the food and service are goo but I for some reason always fall into the trap of going when I want to eat a meal but am forced to sit through a game I don't really want to see. I really like their wings and they always have a good beer special for sports events. Not the place I would take the kids after a Friday or Saturday night at the mall for all you soccer Mom's out there. Go to the food court inside the mall for that!

We decided to go to Champps for dinner. Typical American food chain restaurant with sandwiches, burgers, pastas, apps and sides. I had been to this restaurant before but several years have gone past and I knew the menu would be different. We walked in and were seated right away. One tip for sports fans, they have a gazillion big screen televisions and March Madness was playing on every screen. I ordered a turkey wrap with sweet potato fries and a mango mojito. My entree was good except the fries weren't hot and my mojito did not taste fresh, almost like a pre-mix that was super sweet. Next time I will try a different beverage.

Food and service was terrible. You could clearly see the waitress was intoxicated. My tenders were cooked in old grease. The peach tea was watered down. For this to be in Columbia, Md, I was shocked. Never coming here again.

I come here occasionally to watch a few sports games with friends while grabbing some food and drinks. The food is good and the service is alright. It's located on a row of other restaurants and right next to a movie theater so it's usually pretty crowded, especially during weekend evenings. They have a decent amount of TV's in the bar area, and a huge projector screen on the other side of the restaurant for those dining in. Recently, I had the Rib Eye steak and it was amazing. It was very tender and perfectly seasoned. I was actually surprised to bite into such a quality piece of meat at what's normally marketed as a sports bar. Also, they have an awesome $5 appetizer deal after 10pm at the bar!! I love taking advantage of this because most of their appetizers are good, like their quesadillas and nachos, and their servings are huge.

They have amazing appetizers. Their nachos is enough for 4 people to share! It's huge! And fully loaded! Their wings were good, as well as their Mozzarella sticks! Def a good place if you just want appetizerZ. I have not tried their main course.

Good American food and environment. If you are looking for high class this isn't the place. If you want to watch the game and have good finger foods this is the right place. I recommend the burgers and fries. Large TVs facing every angle.

Foods okay. Rude staffs. Only great to watch football but I rather hit up Greene turtle or buffalo wild wings.

Great junk food! Good service usually. Lol For sport bar. I give it 5 out of five but is a 4 really! Lol Good happy hour. Enjoy

I love this place! I frequently visit the bar area and most if not all the bartenders are friendly and make it a point even when busy to engage in some short dialogue that goes past the general "may I take your order". As for the bartenders them self there are three favorites that I make sure make my drinks not because they over pour (which I have not experienced) but because the drinks come out tasting awesome. My two favorite drinks there are the mojito regular or strawberry and the Irish trash can which is not on the menu but definitely order-able. The $5.00 appetizer deal is awesome too. Very convenient for either getting off of work happy hour or the late night happy hour. Good sized appetizer portions as well you definitely get your money's worth of food and drink. With that being said the three best bartenders are Kourtney, Steve and Peter. They make the drinks quickly and have them tasting well. So, if you happen to be sitting at the bar look for those three bartenders and you won't be disappointed.

My experience at Champps was definitely not what I expected. My boyfriend and I prefer to stay away from chain restaurants, and our night at Champps validated this. When we arrived we were told by the hostess that we would have a 25 minute wait, it was a Saturday night so that wasn't too bad. We sat down and after 25 min of patiently waiting I realized that people that had come in after is were getting seated. The hostess had forgotten to give me a pager and had crossed my name off the list!! I made them aware of the error so they said we were to be seated next. They didn't seat us next. Then I spoke to a manager, he sat us immediately. When we were seated, the waitress told us she would be right with us. It took her around 10 minutes to come to our table. To add to it all, our orders came out of the kitchen wrong. The only thing that they did right that night was compliment our food after I spoke to a manger for the second time.

If you don't want to read the long version: Cold food that would be otherwise passable if it came warm, slow service but friendly. Long Version: I showed up for a World Cup Game - and they get huge points for not having an issue with people standing around watching the game while trying to find a seat on their many wonderful tvs. Other than that - it went down hill pretty quickly. Everyone here was pretty friendly - but nothing happened easily. I ordered a beer that took a while to get there, then asked for a menu but was left waiting for enough time for me to finish half a tall beer before I got anyone's attention to place an order. Fortunately, I had a wonderful conversation with the gentleman at the bar who was waiting to cash out. We had a nice long discussion about the Red Sox, the upcoming bracket now that the US is out, what Columbia is like... we actually ran out of things to talk about and the check hadn't come for him. Finally I got to order - a flat bread and "hot" honey buffalo wings. At the point another bar tender took my card. Neither of these items was "hot" in any sense of the word. The buffalo wings were sweet and salty, but not a trace of spice. The pizza and wings were luke warm. And the Blue Cheese sauce highly reccomended by the server? - they brought me ranch (quickly replaced) . So, I chowed down ( at this point I was very hungry) on what could have been okay food, if it was even warm. Then, after another obligatory wait of probably 20 minutes with an empty beer glass and empty plate in front of me, I got someones attention so I could request my bill. I stuck up a conversation with another table while they were looking (quite a few people said they were looking). I got some great advice on how to get home from Baltimore during ball games - so, while still hoping to get my card back, I ordered the gentleman and myself a beer. Slow terrible service for cold food that would otherwise be okay. This place could/should be a solid 3 star safe bet if they could get organized and get hot food out.

After being told that the wait at The Cheesecake Factory next door was going to be a 1.5 hour wait, we decided to walk over to Champps with our 13 person group for a Mother's Day lunch. Turned out to be an excellent decision. We were seated immediately and even though it's a sports bar, it was quieter in there than in Cheesecake Factory so we could all actually hear each other. Everyone was pleased with the food they ordered, our server was very kind and never appeared flustered even though we were a large party and everyone was throwing requests at her when she came by, and the manager stopped by twice to ask what she could do to make our visit better. Plenty of TVs around, too - I would definitely come back here to watch a game. Overall a perfect setting for a relaxed, family gathering.

Nice, large eating area. Plenty of seating even during busy lunch hour. Typical sports bar decor and atmosphere. My husband got the ahi tuna tacos-which he said they were great. I got the chicken ranch wrap with sweet potato fries. The wrap was good, although that wrap was over stuffed with chicken-kept falling out. To some of you that may be perfect, but to me it was hard to eat, super messy. Service was good. Bathrooms were nice and clean.

Omg. I could put this down as probably my worst restaurant experience ever! Our waiter had no idea what he was doing, we kept trying to wave at him to catch his attention! When the apps finally came (maybe after 30 minutes) they did not even bother to give us plates to eat! We had to leave half way through to save the evening! Save your time and money!

Came here for the Mayweather v Pacquiao fight. Despite the lackluster entertainment on the plethora of big screens surrounding this sports bar, it was a nice casual atmosphere I could see myself coming to again.

Avoid this place. The service is awful, the staff uncaring and the food abysmal. Made the mistake of dragging friends here after dinner one night for a few drinks. Always had bad experiences but - it was within walking distance of where we had eaten, close to home, and clearly not busy. How bad could it be? Should've known better. There were 3 bartenders and perhaps 10 customers at the bar, myself & friends included. It took 10 minutes for them even to come over. The gentleman behind the bar seemed to be the only one trying to work, though even he disappeared for quite some time. The two "ladies" barely acknowledged our group, and only would get us a second round after we were flagging them down for some time. Both were clearly uninterested in being there, both incredible rude. One stated that she didn't "give a f*ck" because she was leaving for a real job soon anyways. Super classy. All said, an all around terrible experience. Shame, since it's close to home.

Service was slow and horrid and food was most definitely off. Let me explain: We get seated at a high top table and then proceed to wait roughly 5-10 minutes for someone to serve us. The place was maybe at 70% capacity. After placing drink orders, we received water right away and then waited another 10 for our alcoholic beverages. At this point we placed our order and didn't see or waitress again for another 20-25 minutes (after we received our food). She then comes to check on us, after we got our food and were eating, to take more drink orders. Both my parents and I received our next beverage over halfway through with our meal - though I suspect this was from incompetent bar staff and not our waitress. It is also worth it to mention that the order of tacos a member of our party ordered was given to her cold. After we were finished we then had to wait a solid 10-15 minutes for our waitress to show up again with the check. Although when she did show, she was prepared - she was completely MIA from the dining area before that for over 10 minutes (and we wanted to go!) Due to our family being generally non-confrontational we didn't make any fuss - probably a big mistake. On that same note, a manager of some sort was whisking through tables making sure everyone was happy with their meal and service. However, she was so quick at moving from table to table I didn't even have a chance to finish eating my current bite and speak up. I was very disappointed with her ineffective method of seeking out and resolving potential issues with her customers (of which I had many). After the meal, my sister and myself both had severe gastro pains and stomach issues. We were the only 2 people of 5 to eat a steak meal. I'm never one to be sick after anything - bad food, super spicy stuff, roller coasters, alcohol, etc. so when I started feeling absolutely god awful 20 minutes after my meal in the car I automatically suspected issues with the food. Me and my sister both recovered quickly so I doubt either of us will push to figure out what happened. However, the fact that that happened at all to both of us is disconcerting. Between long waits, cold taco order, extremely overweight and ineffective waitress and manager, what looked to be a lazy bar service, long wait time on the check for no reason, near-food poisoning like symptoms from the steak, and a fake-smile overly-friendly staff - I give this restaurant a 2 out of 5 and will definitely be sticking to their neighbors Uno, Cheesecake Factory, and/or P.F. Changs in the future after any mall shopping trips.

The service was awful. Could not have been slower. The place wasn't busy either. Took about 10 minutes to get a to-go box and then another 10 minutes to get the check. The staff was too interested in chatting about what they were going to do that night. The food was mediocre at best. Luke warm when I received it apparently because the staff was too busy talking about a meaningless Redskins game.

Came here for Monday Night Football and the place was not too crowded. Waitstaff was very nice, but the food was not very good. We ordered ahi fish tacos and fish and chips. My fish and chips was overcooked and very salty cos they sprinkle seasoned salt on the fish before serving. Fish tacos were bland. I will come back for the awesome big screen tvs to watch games but i will eat beforehand.

This was without doubt the worst dining experience of my life. The one bright spot was our server. Anything that was in her control she handled well. The manager, Kevin, would not even be able to effectively manage a children's lemonade stand. I ordered buffalo chicken tenders which, when they came out, looked like they had been cooked 10 years ago. Something seemed off when I was eating it but I continued and ate the 5 bite sized tenders ($14) I got. I was fortunate enough to get to see them again when I vomited in the parking lot immediately after. I told my waitress and she went to tell the manager. This is where Kevin really stole the show. He refused to come over to our table. Instead he tasked our server with telling her to return to my table and say that the restaurant didn't want to get itself into a liability issue. In order to get a $14 refund on my check, I would need to go get a doctor's note. My girlfriend then approach Kevin on the floor to ask him to come speak to us. He hesitantly admitted he was the manager and came over to our table. He listened to my complaint and then proceeded to not say a single word. We then asked him to speak and his response was "Well you finished the chicken" and "You wouldn't get food poisoning that quickly. At that point I finally snapped and asked him to leave my table (with a few choice words). To say that Kevin is a bad manager is an unbelievable understatement. The pile of puke I left in their parking lot could manage that restaurant better than Kevin. I saw a baby in a high chair on the way out with better social skills than Kevin. The fact that there are multiple reviews below me echoing concerns with service, cold/undercooked food and bad management should not be taken lightly.

Not sure what people have against Champps, but we went last night before a Rifftrax event at the AMC 14 nearby and it was pretty good. Sure, not the same caliber as some places, but it's not hell on earth or anything like a lot of people seem to make it out to be. It's like a restaurant loses two stars immediately for being a part of a chain or something. Regardless, I had the fajitas and my wife had a burger of some kind. Additionally, we had the chips and queso. You can tell the chips are fresh made and cooked in lard, because it has that tell-tale flavor inherent in anything cooked with lard. They were excellent, as was the fajitas I had. My wife sounded like she was having a sexual tryst with the burger she got, so I can't say she wasn't enjoying it either. Grant a rating to a chain restaurant based on THAT location people. Stop crapping all over chain restaurants simply because they aren't ran by the indigenous peoples of whereever.

Used to be a regular until management changed. They sell dead food that's been clearly sitting in the window for god knows how long. Service is horrible since it takes about 20min for any bartender to actually greet and start you off with a drink. You actually have to ask for refills since the workers lack the capacity to figure out you need another drink. Management staff could careless how their employees treat the guests that dine in. I'd give this place negative 10 stars if I could.

  • Chris W.

It's so awesome here! Got sat down and waited 20 minutes to order after flagging down a different server. Have beer show up that we didn't order. Get charged for beer we ordered and have extra stuff on the check we didn't order. The management didn't give a Damn. Screw this place... It already had only 2 stars. Should've known.

Just don't go here. Don't. Food comes out cold or undercooked, and when it does come out its not good. The service is slow at all times no matter how busy or slow.

  • Rodel B.

Zero. Can I give a ZERO star rating? We walk in at 10pm and they close at midnight. Right off the bat, they say their stove is broken and can only do fried foods. They said they'll have it fixed by tomorrow. Really? You couldn't just say, "we really don't feel like serving any more customers tonight, so come back another day at an earlier time."

I would not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy. Me and my wife decided to come here after watching a good move, what a bad mistake. I think we waited a good fifteen minutes before anybody came over and asked us if we were waited on. By that time we were ready to leave this establishment hungry and frustrated by the bad service. The manager tried to apologize for the bad service. It was a little bit to late for that. Maybe the next YELP members will have a better time than we did.

Service was nice, but the burger Patty seemed pre-made and the desert (mile high ice cream) had freezer burn. They were nice enough to bring another one.

Whenever we go to Columbia Mall we end up eating lunch or dinner at Champps. My husband is a huge sports fan, and if you are too this is the place to be. Huge open space, TVs everywhere you look, lots of food and drink available. It's a sports bar, and it excels at that I think. Today we were there at 4:00 ish, which is late for lunch, early for dinner. The place was pretty empty, so we got to watch NCAA tourney action in relative quiet. Hubby had the Cajun Chicken Alfredo and I had a sandwich that was on special: Island Chicken..something or other. The chicken pasta was excellent as always. I'm posting a picture but it's not quite fair, because hubby had them remove the spinach and peppers so it looks bland. It's anything BUT bland, though. Nice spice to it, and excellent sauce that's not too heavy. My sandwich had excellent flavor. I highly recommend it for the flavor, but with one note: have them leave off the bread. Just eat this with a knife and fork, because it's a combination of chicken, pineapple, pepper, tomato, all of which contain a heck of a lot of water. Which means anything but a pretzel roll is going to be a soggy mess by the time you're three bites in, as indeed mine was. I simply removed the bread, ate the innards with knife and fork, and enjoyed the heck out of it. Plus I don't need the carbs anyway. The bread they're using is just wheat, thin sliced sandwich bread and the fillings are so big and stacked so high that bread can't even hope to compete. All that said, we enjoyed the meal, and the service was smiley, friendly, and excellent. A good, relaxing time.

Not the same Champps. My husband & I used to go to Champps all the time when we were dating. Last night we went & the menu is now half the size that it used to be. Nothing looked appealing to me so I ordered the $13.00 chicken tenders. My food was cold, like ICE COLD & the server was really slow, had an attitude & forgot to give us silverware & condiments. I'm not happy & I don't think we will be going back.

I used to be a regular here because my boyfriend had our first date here and we always end up grabbing a drink before a movie or after shopping mostly so he can catch games. The bartenders are usually very friendly and they have really nice happy hour/late night specials for beer, house wine, and $5 food. The actual menu is alright. I've had steak salad a couple times but stopped getting it after the last time when I asked for medium rare but it came out totally raw tasting/scarlet I thought I was a zombie. All the pastas are pretty good with the lobster pasta being the best and the chicken alfredo at the bottom. Everything else I've tried like french onion soup, calamari, and sliders were a little lacking for me.

  • Madeleine L.

The food was pretty good. I honestly think my parmesan crusted chicken pasta could have had more sauce, less chunks of tomatoes. But it was all good, ESPECIALLY the loaded baked potato appetizer and the mile high ice cream dessert. That thing will change your life...and your pants size.

  • Michael W.

The service was fantastic. The food was decent. It had a very chain like feel. The drinks were fine as well. Nothing stood out as HOLY CRAP AMAZING, but at the same time, I wasn't disappointed. The food is Traditional American: Burgers, pasta, that random steak option I'm always worried about ordering in a chain restaurant that doesn't focus on steaks. It can be a little noisy, but it quiets down if you aren't surrounded by people. I'd eat here again, if people wanted to go--but I wouldn't wait in line to eat here either. That being said, if you are hungry, and you are at the Columbia Mall, it isn't a bad option. I think, more often than not, you'd come out pleased enough.

LOVE THIS PLACE I would say it has the best happy hour. $2.75 rail drinks and $5 appetizers. Champs has the best wings hands down! The servers are always nice which is definitely a plus. I come strictly for the happy hour and it's definitely something you need to try! One thing is that they did get rid of the potatoe skins.....They have a new menu....BRING THE SKINS BACK

Late night dinner at the bar, cool atmosphere. Hardly anyone in the restaurant on a Thursday night. Hockey on the big screen is not my thing but there was basketball on several of the smaller screens. Service was good, both bartenders waited on us, makes for better service. I'd go back. Btw, I've seen UFC fights here before, can't beat a $5 cover and decent food(can get crowded for big name fights)

this spot USED to be decent. Never excellent, but perfectly acceptable. No more. In the last year or so it's gradually gotten worse to the point of completely going down the tubes. After a couple of disappointing visits (OK-ish food, inexperienced/disinterested bar staff), I somewhat regrettably returned for the Mayweather-Pacquaio fight. It was crowded, but I'd been here for several fight nights previously with larger turnouts & it'd been fine. This however, was a monumental disaster. Chammps has a nice setup for watching sporting events, but that's about the only +. It was Derby Saturday, and I ordered a Mint Julep. The waitress, after scrambling around a bit, informed me that she didn't know what it was, how to ring it up, and couldn't find anyone there to help. It's not a popular drink in Maryland, so I could kind of forgive that (even though I explained EXACTLY what it was). I left my seat to approach the bar, hoping for better luck. After being ignored for several minutes, the clueless bartender informed me that they didn't have mint to make it. Keep in mind that mojito is a signature cocktail menu item here. Frustrated I went back to my seat & ordered their "Ultimate Margarita". The waitress asked if I wanted the "house" tequila, despite the menu clearly stating it's made with 1800. I also ordered fish tacos after being told that they no longer made Old Bay wings. I asked if they could be made as an off menu item & was informed that they had no Old Bay in the building. A Maryland restaurant that has NO OLD BAY. The tacos came out a lot faster than expected & were lukewarm & bland. I had finished them & had my plate cleared before the drink finally arrived. It was horrendous. Loaded with sour mix & very obviously made with rail tequila. I sent it back without incident & ordered a beer which turned out fine. The waitress did know her beers well enough, so that was good. My group of 5 where all highly underwhelmed & the waitress asked us not to judge her by the bar & kitchen's shortcomings. Sorry for the long review, but I didn't even touch on everything. Man, this bar sucks.

Have been here a few times with the BF to have a drink or two and watch a sporting event... Last time we did dinner however and the service was sub-par...it took awhile to get acknowledged to be seated and then after specifically telling the hostess we were watching the game, she sat us in an awkward place for TV viewing. When my boyfriend asked if we could move to a different table that needed a quick bussing, she tried everything to not get us to sit there, finally saying "Um, can't you just sit at that one?". She looked almost pained when we said we preferred the other one, but we stood our ground because we wanted a good view of the game. After that, it took quite a long time for someone to check in with us and bring us water (a huge pet peeve of mine), which put me off for the rest of the service. Other than that, the food was pretty tasty and when we finally did get a waitress she was very friendly. I'll go here again, but only for convenience.

The recent reviews have been pretty critical of Champps, but I would say my experiences here have been "A-OK." As someone who grew up in Columbia, I've seen the Mall change over time, but Champps has been a staple for years. The food isn't anything to write home about...it's traditional American fare: burgers, wraps, sandwiches, salads. They have a decent selection of beer, nothing too exotic, but enough to satisfy your thirst while watching a Ravens or Redskins game. On my most recent visit, I ordered the California Turkey Wrap, which comes with sliced turkey, bacon, avocado, provolone, and lettuce in flower tortilla. It was delicious (anything with fresh avocado usually is). Other members of my party ordered burgers, one of which was a bit overcooked. Not that big of a deal though, apparently it was still good. Cudos to the waiter for prompt drink refills. He would have been perfect, however, he didn't know that Champps made/sold/prepared sweet potato fries. One of the members of my party had to tell him that it was on the menu. When the fries did come out, some of them were cold; they appeared to have been frozen. Our main gripe, keeping in line with the previous reviews, was the sluggishness of the kitchen. The dining area was not even one-third full when we ordered, yet it took nearly forty minutes to receive our food. For simple burgers and sandwiches, that's unacceptable. Overall, this is not my first choice for dinner in Columbia. Nonetheless, it's a decent place to watch sporting events, and a coupon for $10 makes it all the more worthwhile (they are easy to come by in those money-mailer things).

It's a chain, so I don't know what I can really add here. Typical chain sports bar food, lots of fried stuff and burgers, TONS of calories. Of course it tastes good, it's bad for you fool! We got a couple of different types of burgers, which were alright, and then made the error of adding dessert into the mix (indigestion!) Service was REALLY slow, we had to keep waving down the server or else we never would have seen them again, having been seating in the bermuda triangle of the restaurant. Plenty of TVs around for watching the sport of your choice whilst drinking the intoxicating beverage of your choice. This also happens to be the closest restaurant to the movie theater, so good for killing time waiting for a movie to start, which is why we were there.

Went here for a pre-movie drink with the bf...it's a shame that such a lackluster, sub-par restaurant is taking up prime space in the mall. We sat at the bar with more than enough time to sip on a beer...or so we thought. We waited so long for a bartender that we ended up practically chugging our drinks! The couple sitting next to us had the same plan (pre-movie dinner) and had been waiting a long time for their food as well. Good service means a lot to me, and honestly good service can overcome a lot of restaurant faults. Bad service almost always means I will not give you a second chance...

I was hoping after not coming here for 5+ years that it might have improved, but I was disappointed. Service was incredibly slow, it took awhile to get our drink orders, for the drinks to arrive, and to take our food order. We ordered an appetizer which came out hot but took forever, and we weren't given plates or silverware. After the appetizer it took a long time to get our food which was cold, and my french dip did not come with dip, which I had to ask for. At this point I still hadn't been given silverware (I guess partly my fault since I kept forgetting to ask) so I had to take some off another table. Despite living in walking distance I'll never go here again, I'd rather go to the food court at the nearby mall.

This Champps location's terrible food is eclipsed only by the restaurant's unfriendly staff. The burgers are slightly better than McDonald's at 4 times the price. Staff is a mixture of incompetent and rude, from the Manager on down. Took forever to get our meal, and when we did, it was wrong and cold! Manager wouldn't recognize the mistake. Another Time, I went there to watch a sports game at the bar, and after a few drinks, I was told that if I didn't order food I wouldn't be served any more alcohol. It wasn't like I was acting drunkenly, I was just minding my own business, watching the game. Their managers are complete idiots, and that attitude trickles down to the rest of the staff. There are so many better restaurants at the Mall both with better food and better price for the money. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS!!!

I had been going there for years but now maybe 2 times per has been the max of late. It is conveniently located. If you want to see the game then this is a convenient locale. But, BUT the service has been very poor for the last three years and the food, now changed via a "craft" y menu change, is still the same mediocre fare with less content at a higher price. I do not get why they call their stuff craft. The need witchcraft to turn this place around. Competition has moved in and I am thankful to take my time and money elsewhere.

3/4 of our party's orders were incorrect. Giving 2 stars only because they comped us for 2 meals. Everything took a long time (we had to ask for silverware 4 times) and beers are expensive.

Great food and great service. Nachos were decent, but the turkey wrap with pasta spinach salad was outstanding. My wife had the Cobb salad and it was enormous ad loaded with chicken and avocado. The atmosphere is nice but not too loud and always has walls filled with televisions for the sports games I never have a problem coming back!

I take my fiance to eat here all the time. We enjoy the food, the price is good, and some of the servers even remember us by name. They have THE best burger you can buy. Watching a big football game here is better than home. They put the main event up on several TVs all around the room and the sound is played throughout the restaurant, though its not too loud (and thats important to me).

The food is chain level. Completely hit or miss. Don't expect to be blown away... although the menu was updated about a year or so ago, which showed an improvement. I'd call the old food Purina-worthy. My beef is that it feels like it's not sure if the space is a sports bar, sports pub, or restaurant. They tried to hit all three, but it always feels a little awkward to me watching a game. I don't sit quietly and sigh under my breath or air five the other drunk idiot in the Eagles jersey. I clap, talk, and do things generally required in a real sports bar. Only you feel awkward while the family of four eats their chicken tenders and talks about their day at school three feet away. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm just an asshole. But I'd rather hit one of the real bars in Columbia to watch a game. Most have better food anyway.

Meh . . . sub-par. We ordered the crab bread as an app today; I was super excited that the bottom piece had large lumps of crab on it! Yeah, turns out it was imitation crab - a.k.a. krab. Not good, especially when in Maryland, you expect real crab if they don't tell you otherwise. The spinach & artichoke dip is ok; definitely frozen & likely microwaved in the kitchen - no homemade taste. They deep fry their own tortilla chips, but they were pretty greasy. My friend's club sandwich was good according to her; her homemade potato chips were quite overcooked. She wasn't really happy with her mudslide either - she said they're very inconsistent when they make them there & all of the bartenders don't make them the same. I wouldn't bother going back; it seemed a lot like an Applebees or a Chili's or any of those chain restaurants.

MOOD: The place looks pretty nice, but the TV's are too few and far away for a sports bar. They also show so many different things that I couldn't get sound on any of them. SERVICE: It was pretty timely, but the restaurant was mostly empty at 10 P.M. FOOD: We tried several of the happy hour options. The nachos hardly had salsa, no fresh peppers, and it looked like the fake melted cheese topping you get on your hot dogs from 7/11 on them. Chips were thin and broke easily, or were soggy from the cheese. I couldn't finish it. I tried the sliders instead, also really bland and would have rather heated up frozen White Castle burgers in the microwave at home. Terrible, wouldn't go back.

Stopped in yesterday to watch my Chargers beat the Eagles. The crowd was fun, and surprisingly, I wasn't the only San Diego fan in the house. The service was noteworthy. My waiter, Pat, made sure I was seated in a good spot to see my team play, but I could still monitor other games. He and the waitresses behind the bar were attentive. I ordered the bourbon grilled salmon with mixed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. The food was quite good. Champps is located near Nordstroms, which is another plus. Sports, food, and shoes. What more could a girl want?!

Champps is not a place you would visit for a fine dining experience. It is, however, a good place for happy hour. It's a standard sports bar, but what I like is their Sam Adams Seasonal on tap and boneless hot wings. Mmmmmmm.

The old man and I ended up dining here because the Cheesecake Factory next door was packed. Champps was very quiet when we first entered (**uh oh**). As indicated by our low rating of this place, the experience was not good. To break it down: Ambiance - The restaurant looks pretty promising from the outside and even on the inside... clean, unoffensive lighting/color scheme, and is quite roomy. I did find it quite chilly inside and had to keep my coat on throughout the meal. The hostess greeted us appropriately and we were shown to a table immediately. Service - Our waitress started off alright when she came over to greet us and take our drink/food orders. Once the tables around us began to fill up, the service took a very serious downturn. Our appetizer was plopped down without so much as one word being said, as she hurriedly walked passed our table. We were picking crumbs off of the empty appetizer dish before our seemingly bored waitress stopped over and quickly spat out that our food will "just be a minute and I'll refill your water". By this time, the old man was sucking on ice cubes as we observed a large party (that arrived after our appetizer was served) was being served their food already. It seemed to me, as I watched our waitress interact with the staff in the kitchen, that there was a lot of confusion between the front-of-house staff and the back-of-house staff. Servers were waving order tickets in frustration while the BOH staff seemed unconcerned and well, bored. After another 5+ minutes, our food finally arrived. Food - The calamari fritti we ordered as an appetizer was decent, served with two dipping sauces: one creamy and the other tomato-based. The breading was light and a bit grainy -- I'm thinking a cornmeal breading? Either way, we both enjoyed that dish. The old man ordered an entree salad (the Americana chopped salad) and I ordered the grilled chicken fajitas. Presentation-wise both dishes were visually unimpressive. All of my fajita toppings (lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and rice) were crowded (like slop) on the same plate as the sizzling chicken, peppers, and onions. J's salad, looked like a giant salad that you can find at your local diner. The only colors were green from the romaine lettuce and brown from the cranberries, bacon, and pecans. The food tasted fine, my chicken was tender, though lacked much grill flavor and J stated that his salad would have been "nothing without the bacon". Price - For the quality of the food and the service, I feel we overpaid. Approximately $10 for the plate of calamari, which I think is pretty typical. However $15 for the fajitas that anyone could throw together at home and presented better, I think was priced higher than it's actually worth.

TV screens were so loud I couldn't even hear the person across the table from me. I asked them three times to turn it down and was completely ignored. Other people were also annoyed about the volume but nothing was done about it so we just chose to leave. Would not recommend this restaurant if you want to be treated nicely as a customer.

After just writing a review of my Champps Columbus experience, I realized I had not levied, in writing, my opinion of my introduction to Champps version of fine American dining. "Cham-p-ps" as I always called it was this kind of monument of avoidance in Columbia. It was right in the center of town, attached to the mall, advertising its suburban badge of sameness, and it was clearly not my style. I mean, did they have to add the extra "P" to avoid getting sued by the shoe seller or was that their idea of living... ahem... outside of the box? So, after several years of avoiding Champps, there was an occasion where I ended up having to go in order to keep my girlfriend from dropping dead from sugar deprivation. There were no surprises in regards to the decor... Large TV's showing all of the random Poker World Championships, billiards competitions, and bowling tournaments that tend to be on ESPN instead of actual sporting events. Annoying more than anything. I don't watch random sports typically. Home teams are enough for me. Now, to the food... The staff was plenty friendly, and took our orders and refilled our drinks without incident. I am a huge fan of Reubens and that was my immediate choice. Everything came out and I dug in. Good god, what was this abomination I was eating? The "cheese" was some sort of fluid mess of something all together more velveeta than swiss. It made the sandwich so wet and sloppy, it was pretty much inedible. 1 slice of that near cheese alone would be enough to drop a cow with artery clogging grease. Lunch, ruined... Champps, bad... Very bad.

I'm not one to enjoy a sports bar based off, well, sports... sol, I read a book at the bar, ordered a few 22 ounce drinks and had a good time. There are typically a few ladies enjoying themselves so you may go in with a smile and leave with a larger one.

Been here a bunch of times. Probably not again. Along with the service, the food used to be very good. The food is now barely decent and the servers seem to have their regulars that get their time. The last 2 times I went there it was dead. Our last time there, they got all our tables food & drinks wrong. Now going there for a sporting event is horrible. The noise is insane. The language, well..... Don't bring your kids! Cursing, screaming and arguments! On a value scale from 1 to 10. I give this a 4. Only because its a sports bar and keep your expectations there!

Massive in size, that's a plus. I'd have to say that the food is mediocre at best with no originality. I've asked for a medium rare burger on several occasions and they are always medium well. The portions are small, which would be acceptable if the food was good, but since it's not it is unacceptable. Save your money unless you are going to drink and watch games. Then I highly recommend it.

I usually only go here for UFC and boxing PPV nights. Your standard bar food. Standard beers. Nothing spectacular, but I don't think this place tries to be anything more than it is. It does its job well. Food can be on the expensive side though.. I guess something has to pay for their giant screen TV's.

I've been here a couple times with my boyfriend, but I'll write about my most recent visit. Our dinner started out with meeting our waiter, nice guy and brought us our sodas. For an apatizer we got the nachos with chili on the side since I'm vegetarian. The nachos had what seemed to be two cheese along with a side of salsa and a side of sour cream. The chips were crunchy and it all went together perfectly. My boyfriend said the chili was pretty good also. For the main dish I got the shroom burger made with a veggie patty and he got the french onion burger. My veggie patty was a little burnt, but that's the way I like it, so it was perfectly cooked for my taste, but others may not like it. It came with a side of waffle fries that were crispy and tasty. My boyfriend enjoyed his french onion burger, although it was silly watching him trying to dip his burger into the little container of soup/dressing/saucy stuff since there was no way it could fit. He ate all but about one bite of his burger, so it must have been good, he usually only eats about half. After the app and burgers we were stuffed (and still are hours later) so passed on dessert. We didn't go during any sport games, so it was busy, but not insane, so there was little wait and our food came out at a responsible speed. While it's not a place I'd eat every week, it's definitely a spot I'd return.

Went here for dinner with my boyfriend because Cheesecake Factory had a ridiculous wait time. The food was ok, I ordered the Kobe burger which was cool! Wasn't too excited about that. However, the lobster dip was amazing! I felt as though I should have ordered that alone. The service was great, I really loved our server. The environment was nice my boyfriend seemed to enjoy it especially bc there was a thousand TVs and one of his games was on. Maybe I'll go back for happy hour!

The Assistant MGR Amy is very unprofessional. She does not know how to handle her customers. She is a pathetic liar. I had ordered the exact same dish for several years and she did not believe that the kitchen did not have my take out order correct. I have never been so insulted by any food service. She does not respect her own staff or customers other than that i would come back w/o her service

The food is mediocre, basically what you would expect from a chain restaurant. But it is an ok place to grab a bite if you want to watch a sporting event. There are a number of well located tvs, including a very large block near the bar. I would not choose to go here for dinner, but I'd happily watch football here on a Saturday and eat some food.

I haven't been here for 5 years and stopped by yesterday, I still think it's a pretty good sports bar. Very spacious! that alone bumped 'em up one star. The menu is pretty ordinary and what you'd expect of a sports bar...I hear they have good salads...The burger was okay. They did lose huge points for the fact they didn't carry sweetened iced tea of any form...they did have sugar and un-sweetened iced tea, I guess I'm just lazy...oh well. I'd recommend this though, a pretty good happy hour spot if you're by the mall.

Champps was a solid chain restaurant experience. We ended up here because Cheesecake Factory was a very long wait. I did not really care for the atmosphere. Very much like a sports bar with huge open space and lots of tvs. On the other hand the place was very clean, which I greatly appreciate. I had the veggie burger. I was very pleased. As a previous reviewer noted, it was more charred than normal but that is how I like it. The bun, lettuce, onion and tomato were super fresh. I asked for the chipotle mayo, which kicked up the flavor. The steak fries were passable- nothing to write home about. One of my friends also had a burger and the other the bourbon salmon. Both reported that they enjoyed their meals. The service was decent if a little slow on the bar drinks (probably not the waitresses issue). So its not like I would pass by the many other wonderful restaurants in the area to go to Champps, but if I was at Columbia mall and needed to eat, I would go again.

If you're looking for good, fatty food like burgers, steak, ice cream, and other assorted greasy American food, then this place rocks. Fast service even if it's busy. Thing is, you definitely have to beat the rush...otherwise you're waiting up to an hour for a seat. Hot waitresses too.

One thing is that they did get rid of the potatoe skins.....They have a new menu....BRING THE SKINS BACK

this spot USED to be decent.

    (1)
  • Rodel B.

Very bad.

Good American food and environment. If you are looking for high class this isn't the place. If you want to watch the game and have good finger foods this is the right place. I recommend the burgers and fries. Large TVs facing every angle.
