Was looking for a new place to order take out, and enjoyed the Eat24 app's ability to browse the menu and order directly. Ordered a nice mix of food, from street tacos to a salad - and everything was terrific. Service was exactly what it should've been - order was ready when they said it would be, everything was packaged to make it home with no problem. My only challenge was that the smell was so good - had a hard time keeping my fingers out of the food while driving! I can't wait to go into the restaurant to eat, and will definitely be back.

My wife, two boys, and I frequent this semi neighborhood restaurant. The place has never been crowded and the service is always spot on. We have had most of the menu and everything has been good, but they excel at anything that is grilled. The margaritas, salsa, chip and queso are good. Nothing to write home about but are good. I typically put a dbl shot in the margaritas. The kids menu works very well for us. Catonsville is an area nearly devoid of good mexican restaurant. Though I have been to better Mexican restaurants I give this place a 5 because it is a bit of finding a diamond in the rough.

Delicious authentic Mexican food. From Mexican street tacos to Ceviche this place is awesome! The grande margarita was the best and the customer service was out of this world! I highly recommend this restaurant!

El Agave is a hidden gem in Catonsville, and I would wholeheartedly recommend it. I had chicken enchiladas and my husband had chicken fajita. Both were amazing. Tortillas were clearly homemade and fabulous. We have been looking for some authentic Mexican food in the 'burbs and have been disappointed by a few other places recently so this was such a treat. Margaritas were excellent also. We will absolutely be back! Only negative was service was a little slow.

Best Mexican food in Catonsville/Baltimore. The tamales are fantastic and my husband loves the Arroz con pescado. Very reasonably priced and great service. They also have huge TVs for watching games. Love it!

Been twice now. GREAT happy hour prices at the bar. Hearty beans, rice, cheesy dishes at reasonable prices. I hope this place succeeds, because they are a welcomed option! Yum!

My family and I were looking to try something new for dinner this evening. El Agave was well-rated on Yelp, and is fairly close to our house. Unfortunately, it was disappointing on multiple fronts, and we'll likely not be back. My wife ordered the seafood fajitas, which were described as shrimp, scallop, and crab meat. What she received was the foulest, fishy & spicy tasting seafood combination either of us has ever had. The shrimp was tough, the crab meat consisted primarily tiny flecks, and there was a whole half of a scallop. The other half of the dish was primarily onions, with 3 or 4 slivers of green pepper. It was nearly inedible, but our waitress never came back to check on us until the rest of us were nearly done. Son #1 ordered a beef and bean burrito fundido, and received just shredded beef. He's very particular about textures, and would have preferred ground beef instead; the menu just described it as "beef". As our waitress was still MIA, we had to flag down the only other waitress from a nearby table to replace it with a bean burrito, which he inhaled. Son #2 and I both had El Trio, which was fairly decent, but could have used some marination. We weren't sure if the carne asada was particularly tough, or whether the knives were just that dull, but both of ours were fairly dry and very tough to cut. The chicken and chorizo were both good though, as was the cactus salad. Son #3 ordered the BBQ chicken fajitas, which were actually very good, although comprised primarily of grilled onions. The Jack Daniels sauce was so good that he actually ate some of the more grilled onions. Four of the dinners came with tortillas, so our waitress brought us a tortilla warmer with 7 tortillas. Needless to say, we ran out of tortillas and ordered some more, when our waitress finally realized that she still had a table to tend to. We weren't told that extra tortillas were 25 cents each, until we saw them on our bill. All in all, a fairly disappointing first (and likely, last) visit to a new (to us) restaurant. Mi Pueblo in Glen Burnie is head & shoulders above this, as evidenced by the nearly constant wait for tables most nights.

Okay dokes, so I was looking for a place close by that had Taco Tuesdays and this place was legit. They have a variety of different flavors of tacos and while I don't eat meat, I can appreciate the fact that they have carne asada, pollo asada, tongue, and carnitas - I mean it sure beats the shredded beef options!I had the mahi mahi tacos and although they weren't on special they were pretty dang good. My favorite part of the meal though was the salsa - can you say FUEGO! So delicious that is for sure! The margarita's left a bit to be desired as the sour mix was a little too generic for me - I am not a fan of the cheap sour mixes, I wish all bars would make their margaritas with triple sec, a splash of OJ and fresh lime juice but it is what it is - they do have jumbo margaritas which is awesome! The only thing that was a little frustrating what that the website and Yelp page say they are opened until 10:00 pm and when we got there at 9:10 they were already sweeping and said the kitchen closed at 9:30 so we had less than 20 minutes to order and once the food came out, they were putting chairs on tables and turning off TVs - that wasn't pleasant so for ambiance and service they get 2 stars but for food they get 4 which gives them an average of 3. If I am looking for a Taco Tuesday place, I may go back again!

Went here with 3 friends based on the good Yelp reviews, and once we found it, we were not disappointed! The server that initially greeted us didn't serve our drinks so our guess that she was not 18 was probably accurate, and the policies about serving alcohol seemed to be followed appropriately. All our food was really good. I had the al pastor platter which had marinated pork with rice and beans. It was flavorful and had the perfect savory sweet flavor that goes so well with pork. I really liked the cactus salad that accompanied the meal! It was my first time trying cactus and I will try it again sometime. One of my friends got an assortment of tacos with different meats. She was more adventurous than me, getting one beef cheek and something else I probably wouldn't have wanted to order. She liked her food. My other friends got generic steak-like dishes that they said were cooked well, not overdone. I really liked this place. It looked like nothing special on the outside but it is a gem!

Had a wonderful experience here on a Saturday night! We came in for some authentic cuisine and left stuffed, happy and eager for our next visit. I had a pair of tacos that were very tasty, however, it was by far the salsa that caught my attention. BEST. SALSA. EVER. Yum. Will be back!

So I have been wanting to try this place for several months. Came in around 9 pm on a Saturday night. It was virtually empty. No funky smells. We sat ourselves and the waitress came right over and served us. We started with a cheese quesadilla and guacamole dip. Can't screw up a cheese quesadilla...it was good. The guacamole dip was really good. Lots of chunks of avocado yet still blended well. Kids had chicken fingers meal and hot dog meal. Chicken was very crunchy, like we like, and the daughter ate them all. The hot dog came rolled up in a floor tortilla. Son woofed it down. I had the combo #3-beef enchilada, chicken taco, rice n beans...and I ordered a pork tamale on the side. I did ask for my taco to be beef instead of chicken. What I received was a chicken enchilada, beef taco and pork tamale. Despite the mix up, the food was pretty tasty. The total bill came to just over $53. Not the best mexican I've ever had, but definitely in the top 10. Going to try the tamales trio next time.

Love to come during their Happy Hour between 3p and 7p m-f. The service is good and so is the food and drinks. Great stop before Heading home to routine. Great atmosphere and cultural environment.

Food is pretty fresh. Had the tacos yesterday, and the tortillas seem home made and not dry which i liked. The salsa for the chips was really good too, pretty authentic.

Who knew there was a great Mexican restaurant within stumbling distance of my house?! Not me, at least for the first 6 months they were opened. Craving a margarita one night, I turned to Yelp for advice, and now I'm busy making up for lost time . . . First of all, don't let the sketchiness of that whole corner deter you from going inside. There may be a few weirdos hanging around, but that's just Gwynn Oak for you. Nothing really dangerous; I've lived here happily for 10 years, with the occasional eyeroll over a group of young would-be hoodlums. Once you go in, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the warm and charming decor, friendly staff, and overall cleanliness and quality of the surroundings. It looks like a nice place to have dinner, and it is! Drinks are probably the low point, at least where margaritas are concerned. They're made from a mix, and while that's fine for the most part, I really wish they'd get with it and make up a few custom cocktails. In the meantime, I'll stick with Modelo. Their food is wonderful. Favorites are the shrimp ceviche, which comes with a huge chunk of avocado perfect for cutting up and enjoying with the salad; the pork chile verde, tender and meaty and spicy all at once; and the tamale trio, of which my favorite is the adobo chicken. Their nachos and burritos are pretty standard, but the ownership is truly Mexican, so if you stick with traditional Mexican entrees, you're guaranteed greatness!

Love this place! The food is great and well priced. The staff is friendly and attentive. It's a great place to go eat with the family or just have a beer and watch the game. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Was excited to try this newer restaurant but was sadly disappointed. Ordered the Queso con Chorizo to start the menu stated it was homemade. The appetizer came took a while to come out and was canned cheese and not very good Chorizo. We sent it back and order some tacos instead. The chips and salsa were also disappointing and tasted bad. The chips were definitely nothing special. The saving grace was the street tacos. They come in a homemade soft shell and well pretty tasty. We also got a quesadilla and it was so so. Additionally are server left in the middle of our meal and said nothing to us, the new server was better but the transition was overly complicated. I don't think we'll try this place again, but if you do go get the street tacos...

Great street tacos. They are very friendly. It's a small place but cute with really good food.

Good mexican restaurant, finally some Mexican in Catonsville. Very similar to Mi Casa in Ellicott City in both menu and taste. Really like the fajitas. The fried ice cream could be a little better, but it's still worth getting (little more honey would be good). Overall, great place for dine in or carry out.

Heard this place was good and wasn't disappointed. Top shelf marguerite was strong and good and the fish tacos were excellent. I'll definitely be back.

Working in Catonsville allows me the advantage of driving past El Agave on a daily basis. I've watched it grow from its baby stages to a full-service restaurant within the last few months. I finally had a chance to check it out with an Amazon Locals deal one evening after work. Our server was super accommodating and gave us great recommendations for food/drinks. She checked in with us frequently but was not overbearing. We thoroughly enjoyed the service! My boyfriend and I sample a variety of street tacos. If you're not a cilantro fan, make sure you request they leave it off of your tacos, as they are very heavy-handed with cilantro otherwise. The meat was flavorful but not too powerful and they were the perfect hand-held size for sharing. We also ordered one of the combinations so that we could experience a variety of menu items. The enchiladas, beans, rice, and burrito were all delicious- no overly cooked or dry meat. The only downside to the food experience was the house-made salsa. It was watery and had a strong taste of cucumbers (in our opinion). While it's not our favorite salsa, the chips and salsa were complimentary so it wasn't a complete loss!

I would say this place is average, BUT I will give it another try... since it is only blocks away. The tamales and quesadillas were good, some other items were so-so. I'll update the review if they get any better.

Best authentic Mexican street tacos ever. I could not stop eating them, I literally had to go here almost every day for a few weeks. Guac is also pretty good. Prices are OK. Sit-down service is OK, take-out service is minimal. $2 off coupons through Eat24 online ordering service every weekend!

I decided to treat myself to a lunch "out" today, rather than eating at my desk, and gave El Agave a try. I got there at about noon and was the only person there - by the time I left at almost 1, there were two other tables occupied. The TV was a bit loud for my taste, but the server seemed to be there by herself, so I won't begrudge her the entertainment. I ordered a margarita, which was fine. The drink menu is limited, but traditional, no complaints there. And it was made and served very quickly. For food, I had the nachos con queso, and the steak burrito. They claim on the menu that the queso is homemade, but that seems to mean that they mix a little jar salsa into the melted Velveeta themselves. The burrito had sat under a warmer too long by the time she brought it, so the tortilla was soggy, and everything inside and outside the burrito was extremely bland. The meat wasn't noticeably spiced, and the onions inside were cooked to within an inch of their lives. The Mexican rice lacked any seasoning, even salt, as did the black bean - they simply tasted watery. I don't eat out in this area much, so I can't say how El Agave compares to other restaurants near them. When I checked Yelp, there didn't seem to be many Mexican restaurants in this area at all. But given the choice of having Mexican here and eating at my desk, I'll likely choose eating at my desk from now on.

I ordered my food to go. I don't even know where to start with this place. First of all, the server that took my order was rude and hurried me off the phone while asking for directions under the guise that he was busy. When I got there, there couldn't have been more than 20 patrons. I was still so excited to bring my food home but I got less than I expected. The chicken quesadilla was okay but lacking flavor, one of my enchiladas had UNCOOKED meat on the inside, the rice was dry, and the flan was so-so. The only redeeming food item was the Mexican street tacos, but I think onion, cilantro, and chicken are easy to put together and I could easily have recreated this dish myself at home. And they also forgot the sour cream for these tacos so they were kind of dry. I was expecting a lot based on the reviews, but I don't think I'll be returning after this experience.

Excellent all the way around!! Friendly, attentive staff. Very convenient and close to home. Coronita's were good. I do, however, agree that they should make their own sour mix or try another brand. My significant other tried a pork street taco and beef cheek street taco while I chose the Al Pastor Platter. Both dishes were excellent and authentic. Before going to El Agave I scoped the reviews out and saw positive feedback specifically about the salsa. I can now say my whole perception of salsa has been changed. Theirs is absolutely amazing! The cool cucumber was a pleasant balance to the rather spicy fresh jalapeño and something I had never encountered before. Best salsa EVER!!!! I will definitely be trying to create my own version at home.

We've been three times now and have always been impressed. The food seems more authentic than the standard Mexican food available around here. Last Saturday we wallked in on a Mexican Independence Day celebration with a live mariachi band. The band spoke and sang only in Spanish since the customers are mostly hispanic. I figure that is also a good sign for a Mexican restaurant. The salsa that came out with the chips is on the brown side in terms of color but delicious and spicy. We've tried the barbacoa, enchiladas, arroz con pollo and everything has been delicious. Well worth checking out.

Tacos, tamales, enchiladas, combo plates, delicious soups, and a full menu of delicious mexican dishes. El Agave is a VERY WELCOMED addition to this area. Authentic without pretension. Reasonably priced, friendly staff, wide array of patrons, wide screen tv's, and very clean bathrooms. If you haven't tried them yet, definitely add this place to your list.

Got the street tacos - very good. The tacos were authentic, had a great flavor, and came out quickly. We got an order of cheese dip with the nachos and it was basically nacho cheese. I guess we were expecting it to be dressed up a bit. Other than that, the food, service, and atmosphere were all great. It's definitely worth checking out!

Four stars- but only because the food was yummy and because whoever the children were that were helping out today, they were on top of their game! Our waitress, blonde girl... Didn't catch her name, was horrible! She forgot to put our food order in and waited almost an hour until she finally told us her mistake, then we waited 30 mins after that. If it wasn't for the sweet little boys who were working, I don't know if they are the owner's children or what, but our drinks would've never got refilled if it wasn't for them. Most polite children ever! They also brought us our chips and salsa, which we waited on our waitress for 45 minutes for... Ridiculous! And whenever we asked her for something, you would've thought we were offending her for asking. A nice gentleman brought us out our food and we asked if we could order some food to-go as well, he told our waitress and the look on her face was like we were asking her to join us in hell lol. Aside from her horrible service, which she really shouldn't be waiting on people, everything else was great! Kudos on the parents of the children who made sure we were taken care of, they are such hard workers and you should be proud! Will definitely come in again as long as blondie isn't taking care of us.

I was overly excited to try yet another Mexican restaurant and to my delight I was not let down the food was packed with flavor! The salsa was delicious and being a brand new opened venue everything was new from the seats to the bar all sparkling with that new leather smell. I haven't had the opportunity to try happy hour but I will definitely be soon. P.s. I'm a firm believer of having authentic tasting food that you can only get from a mom and pops el agave delivers just that.

My boyfriend and I went to El Agave for dinner tonight. His California Burrito was quite delicious, and the chicken inside was good and flavorful. Our margaritas were pretty standard, with a respectable amount of tequila in some margarita mix. My Enchiladas Grandes were less than stellar. They were like a weird half-stack of corn tortillas with meat in between the layers. All three kinds of meat were pretty tasteless--if I hadn't known what was in there, I would have assumed that it was just some overcooked pork. There was also a really small amount of flavorless red sauce on top. Might go back to check out their tacos or tamales, but I suspect we'll just opt for one of our usual and reliable pho places nearby.

I stopped by to try the recently-opened El Agave, and I'm glad I did. The food is very good, full of flavor and from my limited experience, appears to be quite authentic Guatemalan style cooking. The food reminded me of the now-closed El Nayar, which I enjoyed very much, and used to be on Frederick Rd. in Catonsville. There is a lot of attention paid to the quality of the food here, that's evident. For starters, the very sweet waitress brought me tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were overly salty and tasted as if they were shaken from a bag, but the salsa was an immediate hit with my tongue. It tasted fresh and was really bursting with flavors. For my meal, I got the Steak and Chicken Fajitas, Chorizo Street Tacos, and a Pork Tamale. Everything looked and tasted great. The Tamale was really excellent. That being said, there are a couple things that do detract from the experience. Opening a restaurant is a very detail-oriented thing. The food may be great, but if the restaurant isn't comfortable, then it doesn't matter how good the food is. A few things kept me from giving El Agave a 5 star review.. On the night I went it was a cold, with a temperature in the 40s; not miserably cold. But, seated at the table, my feet and lower legs were freezing the entire time because the hoods in the kitchen were sucking air in from the dining room, and that means it was coming in the front door and blowing across the dining room floor, and as a result, my feet and legs. The heat was on, but it didn't do anything except keep my upper body warm. I pulled both of my feet up into the booth and sat on my calves. It was that bad. Note to El Agave: Fix this. You need to put doors on the kitchen entrance and make sure your kitchen hoods have a return air unit and USE IT. Yes, that makes the kitchen cold, but do you want no returning customers? I'd have come back every couple weeks, but now I will not return until spring. Whatever it takes, you must correct this before spring. The other thing is the portion size. When the Fajitas arrived I was a bit taken aback that it was not really a big plate of sizzling steak, onions, and peppers like you get at many other places. Usually, it's all I can do to eat it all, but in this case if I hadn't ordered more food I'd have still been hungry. It was literally a handful of beef and a handful of chicken. On top of that, you only get two tortillas with it which is not nearly enough, so I ordered 4 more. The plate of beans and rice it comes with is likewise small, with only enough of each for a few spoonfuls. Rice and beans are cheap, and I'd have expected much more of each. You might want to order extra if you like them. The interior looks very nice, if not a bit bright and sparsely decorated. The nicely appointed booths and tables have ugly paper table numbers taped on the wall over each one, cheapening the look of them. Please memorize your table numbers and get rid of these taped-on tags! Also, a little decorating would go a long way. There's a flashing menu board that constantly changes colors and is very annoying. Other than these few drawbacks, I can certainly recommend El Agave. If they make these changes, I see no problem with them being a Catonsville mainstay, and I'll up my review to 5 stars!

Had a few orders of nachos for the Super Bowl. Literally, it was like riding the flavor train to Mexico. The meat (one was shredded beef and one was shredded chicken) was tender and full of flavor. All of the topping were fresh. The guacamole was bang bang! The staff was very nice, and the restaurant was clean. From 3-7 they have a good happy hour, I will be eating here several times a month.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
