I came here recently to pre-game before Jazzy Summer nights. They were running their Happy hr specials. I ended up getting the 3 tacos for 5 bucks (I got the Barbacoa) You can actually get 3 different flavors but, the slow cooked beef was calling me. I got the guacamole which was 5 as well. You receive a complimentary order of chips with salsa and queso.(which was so good by the way, they got crushed immediately) Who doesn't love Queso? Lastly I opted for the 2 for 1 Margarita. Charles my bartender was very pleasant and makes a mean drink. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll be sure to stop here 1st.

I really wanted to LOVE this place... Came in here late on a week night (around 9PM), and obviously didn't have any issues with a table. I hate eating so late so I knew I didn't want anything huge. Was excited to see you could order a la cart tacos! I just love Mexican food. The salsa and chips were placed on the table instantly. The chips were fresh and great. Not too salty not to thin. The salsa had quite a kick to it. They brought over a green- mild version which was good but not as good as his spicy counterpart. I have a gluten allergy and panicked a little when I saw that the tacos were made with flour tortillas (I didn't know this for sure but one of the first ones mentioned it and the others didn't). When the waitress came by I said. "Can I order corn tortillas for my tacos? I cannot have flour". She assured me they were all on corn. I pointed out what I had read and she said it was "just that one." I ordered the pork belly and the squash/cheese (there is a much more ethnic name for this but I've misplaced it. My fiancé ordered a burrito with ground beef. The food came out rather quickly which was good and expected for Mexican cuisine. When I looked down on my plate, I noticed one taco having paper thin tortillas... and one having thick fluffy ones. Hmm.. My waitress came back. I said to her, "Are you sure these are corn? They look different." She looked at my plate and said yes... and walked away. A few moments later a manager walked by to check on us. I asked her the same question. She needed to go check... when she came back she was very apologetic and said the one I suspected, was flour. Now I HATE complaining. I don't make scenes, and I don't like to put people on the spot. But the whole experience just frustrated me, only because I asked so many times. The tacos were okay. They are about two bites each, and SEVEN dollars about, a piece. So unless you're not super hungry like I wasn't. I wouldn't order them. Or fill up on the sides. The rice was really good, the chips and salsa, and the fiancé loved his burrito.

I was pleasently surprised. We went here for lunch before the Panthers @ Ravens game. It was not crowded at all at 1130a on gameday. We were seated immediately. The weather was so nice they opened the large glass walls to let in the air & sun. I had the Arroz Con Pollo which was exceptional. Taylor had the Queso Fundido; chorizo; roasted poblano peppers w/cheese. James had 3 carnitas tacos. We were all pleased with the food quality and service. Very casual and a great game day food option before football.

Good food and very nice ambience. We had delicious fresh guacamole with our meal and all natural Margaritas. Service clunky at first but very nice recovery by the floor manager. Side note: all the employees seem to love working there

I feel really bad about this because I know that JS and Horseshoe in general loves Yelpers, but the experience was just so awkward and uncomfortable and frustrating that I have to say something. I stopped by a few Sundays ago with my mom, whom had not yet been to Horseshoe and was excited to play some slots and try some celebrity chef cuisine. It was our misfortune that there was a very popular outdoor concert going on; the place was packed and the parking garage was madness, already leaving a bad taste in our mouths. We walked around briefly and then headed to JS for some a la carte tacos. There was no one at the host stand, but there was a large number of people waiting. Some walked away, some went to the bar, and finally a hostess came by after about 10 minutes, taking a party of 4/5 people to a table but telling the rest of us waiting that they "weren't seating for at least an hour because they were understaffed and only had two servers." Whaaat? On a busy Sunday? Most people walked away at that point, but my mom and I decided to stop by the bar and see if we could get served there. We managed to grab two seats at the busy bar (there was also a good band playing inside as if things weren't crazy enough), and someone behind the bar asked us if we would rather be seated at a table. Huh? We thought we couldn't do that. She went to check and sure enough, no table seating. She then gave us some menus and told us she would have a bartender come take our order. Well we waited and waited. The bar staff seemed completely flustered and overwhelmed. Two men came up next to us and grabbed a bartender's attention and started placing an order. Excuse me? We had been patiently sitting and waiting for at least 10 minutes by that point, so we had had enough. We spoke up to someone behind the bar and said that we had been waiting and still no one had stopped to take our order but these two people were already being helped. A manager was brought over (at least I think she may have been a manager, she was not in uniform) but by then the bartender had heard us and came by to assist us (which was difficult because it was so loud in there). We ordered one of each taco and I got a roasted jalapeno margarita. The margarita was good, but lacked the roasted pepper flavor that I had been hoping for. I wouldn't order it again for the price vs. quantity. Of the four tacos, I liked the pork belly and the barbacoa the best and I would get those again. I found the chicken to be flavorless and the carne asada was tough. My mom didn't like any of them, but said that if she had to choose one of them she disliked the chicken the least. She thought the barbacoa was too greasy (it was but it was tasty), and she did not like the salsa with the pork belly and also found the carne asada tough and chewy. She did like the margarita, which we shared. We didn't question it, but we never got any chips and salsa either. I saw that others had it, but it wasn't offered to us and I didn't see where you had to order it from the menu either. We could not wait to get out of there, after about 45 minutes from start to finish (most of which was spent waiting for a host or a bartender) and $40 later for four tacos and a margarita. The crowd and volume had multiplied overlooking the concert on the balcony area, and people had brought in food from other places in the casino to sit and eat while listening to the music (pretty sure that wasn't allowed). I would be willing to give JS another try for a quick bite, as the food did come out quickly and I did have a few things I liked. We were just really disappointed with the overall experience.

The arroz con pollo is way to crunchy. There were way to many roasted tomatoes in my rice. The avocado was not ripe. The waiter was ssssssssssssllllllllllllllooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. It took us 1 hour and 30 min to get the meal thru. Worst $85 bucks spent in my life I feel like a girl who's birthday present was broken I won't have another 15th anniversary. The pen didn't even work! I want a refund. :(

My boyfriend deserted me for poker so I went in search of food and alcohol to occupy my time. Johnny Sanchez had a nice chill vibe, with some good specials listed so I hopped on in. Chips and salsas to start- yum! Thick chips, smoky salsa...great salsa. Bartender quick and attentive. And omg. I ordered one carne asada street taco and had to get another one to go. Tender, flavorful, big. Everything I could ask for in one $5 taco. Soooo delicious!!! Def a happy camper! Now if only the boyfriend would finish gambling so I could share this delicious taco with him! He's got 5 min b4 I scarf it down myself lol

Since the Horseshoe Casino opened, I've been wanting to try Johnny Sanchez. I have a group of friends who love Mexican food as much as I do. When we were deciding on our next Mexican adventure, I suggested heading over to Johnny Sanchez. It was a Friday evening, and while the casino was buzzing with people, the restaurant was surprisingly empty. I usually take an empty restaurant on a Friday or Saturday evening as a bad sign, but we were all craving Mexican food and fortunately decided to stay. When we were seated, we were given complimentary Chips and Salsa. The chips were great, and the salsa had a nice spice which made us very excited for the rest of the food we ordered. As a group, we decided to start with an order of the Guacamole. This version of guacamole came with serrano peppers inside which added a nice spice, but definitely was not too overpowering. I've tried guacamole at a few different restaurants around Baltimore, this was probably the best one I've had so far. The chef was more thoughtful than mashing up a few avocados, sprinkling on salt & pepper, and calling it a day. Two of my friends decided to share an order of the Fajitas, They opted for the combo platter and got Chicken and Steak. The fajitas came with your typical sides which included: herbed rice, grilled onions and peppers, roasted tomatoes, flour tortillas, sour cream, pico de gallo, monetary jack cheese, limes, and cilantro. My friends really loved this dish. Another friend ordered the Quesadilla, inside was chicken, mushrooms, and rajas. The quesadilla was then coated with cheese and topped with salsa verde. This was definitely not your traditional quesadilla. In fact, it was significantly better. The exterior cheese crisped up nicely and really made this an interesting dish which was different than a typical quesadilla. For my meal I went with two tacos. At Johnny Sanchez, you order each taco individually which is something I prefer doing because then you have an option for a wider variety. I ordered two tacos, two or three would make for a decent meal size (depending on how many chips you ate.) The first taco was the Slow-Cooked Beef Barbacoa. The taco came with tomato-guajillo chile sauce, roasted garlic, onion, and cilantro. The beef inside the taco was very tender and the sauces were delicious. The other taco I ordered was the Carne Asada which was grilled & marinated skirt steak, pickled jalapeño, and guacamole. I was thrilled to have more of that delicious guacamole in my taco and I also enjoyed this one very much. If you're looking for inventive Mexican food, Johnny Sanchez is sure to have something that delights your senses.

--Food-- Even though this restaurant is supposed to the result of a collaboration between two mega chefs, the food was overwhelmingly disappointing. Prices are steep but not above what you would expect from a "upscale" Mexican restaurant. -Queso Fundido-

I returned here with a colleague and found the food to continue to please, but the service has room for improvement. The restaurant wasn't particularly crowded at the time, but the service could have been more attentive. That being said, the nachos, which I hadn't tried before were good, and we each enjoyed our entrees. Other than that, I'm almost sure I've split ticket when paying before, but apparently it isn't possible? Rather inconvenient.

I have been here twice, both during Salsa night which is a hit.. Nothing wrong with sitting by the bar and listening to good Salsa music. Lessons are also giving, and i think it runs from Thursday thru sat.good deal. I have tried their carafes both the sangria and the margarita.. Sangria too sweet probably from a mix, and the margarita weak as hell..Chips and salsa was good. I havent tried their food tho i did try their fried oysters at a yelp event that was yum. I think their food prices are high $19 for three tacos emm next... and no thanks. Will still go and soak in the Salsa tho..

Admittedly I've only been here for the happy hour special at the bar. But it is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in baltimore. The bartenders are skilled and friendly. Watching them work is entertainment in itself. The attention to detail is unsurpassed- from twisted lime rind in Martinis to hibiscus rim on margaritas. Ian, Charles (who won best bartender in Bmore) and Aldrus will take care of you. They are knowledgable, extremely likable and handsome! The drinks are strong and delicious and at 2-for-1 during happy hour, a pretty good deal. Now onto the food: the complimentary chips and salsa are delicious but the tacos are the real star. Everything is fresh and delicious. A few weeks ago I ordered some kind of queso which came with warm tortillas. It made for a very filling appetizer. I haven't had an app I didn't like. This is real food made with fresh ingredients. Enough said. A suggestion: check the Horeshoe casino website often for the latest happy hour deals. We went the first week of January and enjoyed the drink specials and half priced apps. By the first week of February the deal had changed. We were a bit disappointed not to see our favorite drinks on the special menu, but Charles took care of us! And that's why we will keep coming back!

I'd like to give my compliments to the chef for doing the impossible, making pork belly inedible. You've been chopped. The pork belly ($6) was cut in thick cubes, fat trimmed off and burnt ends. Wait, what? Pork belly minus the fat? Yes, that's right. Maybe if the fat was left on the meat would have been edible? Nope, probably not. It tasted as if it were left under a heat lamp over night with sauce poured on right before serving. I also had the asada taco ($6). The sauce was delicious on this one but again the meat was tough but edible. I was going to give one star however the waitress removed the pork belly taco since I didn't eat it. She was also the only one working during lunch rush. Food: D Service: D Environment: C Overpriced.

I came in on July 4th on a whim. I sat alone at the bar for drinks and dinner. The bartender, Stephanie was great! Her drinks were delicious and packed just enough punch. She was friendly, chatty and attentive to all of us at the bar. She recommended the steak tacos and she was right. The food was scrumptious! Great food, drinks and service! Perfect!

My boyfriend and I wanted to adventure out to Bmore and see the new casino, Horseshoe. While yelping in the car to see where we should eat, I literally was stumped by all the bad reviews for the restaurants in this place. Johnny Sanchez was our third and final stop. I decided that I was going to order for the both of us. After scanning the menu I was starving, it all sounded so good! And when looking at the prices I thought, wow! This is going to be some good food. NOPE. We started off with two beers and then waited what seemed forever for our complimentary chips and salsa, for a while I figured that you had to pay for them since some people had them and some did not, and we still weren't told or asked. When they finally arrived I asked the bartender who was taking my order if the grilled chicken breast was a decent size and if it was a fillet style chicken. She wandered off to ask the cook, which I thought was very responsible and I liked that, I even liked the fact that she was honest with me when she said she was not sure and that no one has ordered that from her the entire time the place has been opened. So I definitely wanted to try it after she said that, I love being the "first" at anything food wise. When she came back she said that it was a fillet style grilled blackened chicken. So with that said, I ordered a chicken burrito ($18) and the chicken entrée ($21) for us to share. I was so PISSED when the food came out. The chicken was smaller than 4 oz. (the size of your palm, which is the standard size for an entrée). In fact it was beyond small AND IT HAD A BONE IN IT. Obviously NOT a chicken breast. Not only was it small and had a bone sticking out, it was slimy and horribly seasoned. My boyfriend who is a chicken fanatic wouldn't even try it. He stated that he wasn't in the mood to get food poisoning. The chicken entrée came with beans and rice, the rice was slimy too. The chicken burrito was a shredded chicken and they used what tasted and looked like the dark meat of the chicken. We both looked at each other and said we will never eat here again and would rather have CHIPOTLE over this anytime. Please note that they do not have bathrooms inside the restaurant. You must use the casino restrooms which are way down the hall alongside the wall. So if you decide to drink but want to wear heels: choose wisely.

If I could have rated my experience this evening as less than one star I would have. We were seated at 5:30 amidst a three quarters full restaurant. It was definitely busy but not packed and the noise level was bearable. Upon being seated at a table with no silverware, we were handed three menus for our table of four. We had to ask for an additional menu for our fourth party member as well as for a drink menu. After about ten minutes our server brought us our menus and some water glasses but only enough water to fill two of our glasses. Fast forward about another ten minutes and we finally received water at our table. We ordered our meals (4 separate types of tacos to try in groups of three...a total of 12 tacos to be made). Our server took our beverage order at the same time and said she'd be back with their signature salsa and chips. She brought our one beer and the chips out shortly after and we pointed out we still didn't have silverware or napkins. She came back to the table three more times to fill water and told us they were "rolling silverware now so it'll be fresh". Meanwhile there are plenty of empty tables around us chock full of silverware rolls to steal. Flash forward a half hour later and we still haven't received our meals. Some people who were seated and ordered after us have already received their tacos. One member of our party (who comes from the hospitality industry) spoke briefly to one of the casino floor managers that was observing in the restaurant since we hadn't seen our server in over 20 minutes. Immediately after our server came back to the table and said the line was "putting ingredients on [our] tacos" and they'd be out shortly. At this point, we're four bags of chips (delicious chips btw) in and still no food. It's been over an hour since we've been seated and still not a single one of our 12 little tacos. Our final straw was when an 8 top next to us received their entire meal 15 minutes after they ordered. We left the restaurant despite being chased down by another floor manager and offered a comp meal. I really wish I could comment on more than the free chips but alas, no luck there. I'll conclude this with two things. First, we were more than patient. We understand it's a brand new restaurant in the middle of the busiest weekend of its short life. There are bound to be kinks to work out. We didn't throw a hissy fit when a three top next to us was seated after us, received their food & drink, paid their check and left before we even received our food. We played by the rules, discussed it (nicely!) with a manager and was promptly ignored for another 25 minutes. Secondly, I have NEVER walked out of a restaurant in my entire life. I also don't think I've ever witnessed such a breakdown in communication and process as this poor, new restaurant. Certainly not what I've come to expect from an eatery with John Besh's name attached to it (and I've been to MANY). Suffice it to say I will not be returning for a long time, if ever. New restaurant or not, I'm not here to be someone's guinea pig and receive inexcusably poor service as I pay nearly $20 for three tacos. I sincerely hope my experience was just a blip on the radar for this restaurant but I am saddened because since I'm not a gambler, the high end food establishments was one of the only reasons I was excited about the casino.

This restaurant is inside of the horseshoe casino. The food was awesome to say the least. I love Mexican food and we were a little skeptical about this place thinking it was to "tex-mex" and booooy was I wrong. The food was excellent. From the presentation to the taste, along with excellent service. I ordered the Birria and it was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The tortillas were a bit cold but it's ok. Everyone in my group was completely satisfied. The service was superb starting with the hostess I believe her name was Dianna who greeted us with a great smile and recommended a few dishes to us. Then Larry was our server and continue that service. I WILL return and I can easily make it a fav spot. Btw they have a tequila tasting room and well as a patio where you can smoke cigars.++++

I have been here twice and loved each time I came. The menu is a collaboration between John Besh & Aaron Sanchez and has some exotics items like sweetbreads, goat, and octopus. That's awesome, but not really my thing. We sat at the bar because they were packed, and the service was awesome. The bartender couldn't have been nicer and more attentive. We started off with the chips and salsa and ordered some guac. It was spectacular! Then I had the three taco platter and my friend had a steak burrito. We were stuffed at the end, and loved every bite. I intend to be a regular. It's a great, unique place and a welcome addition to Baltimore!

My husband and I had a night out at the new Horseshoe Casino just four days after its opening. Rather than opt for the overcrowded Guy Fieri spot or the too-plush steakhouse, we chose the Mexican restaurant because, let's face it, I could eat Mexican cuisine all day, every day. In concept and in décor, Johnny Sánchez is a winner of a spot. While I'm sure service-related issues can be chalked up to "just-opened" growing pains, we felt that this restaurant has some growing up and filling out to do if it wants to continue to hang at Horseshoe. The front-of-house staff could use some hospitality and communications training, as their candor to customers wasn't very friendly, and although there were four of them staffing the hostess booth, not one seemed to know which tables were open, whether or not there was a wait, or who was taking names, etc. It was a little off-putting. Finally, we were seated at a high-top table in what was about a 60%-full restaurant, close to the big centerpiece bar where local sports were visible on three TV screens. It did take a while for our waitress to make her way over to our table (Tiffany), but she was very sweet. In the end, it wasn't her waitressing skills that left something to be desired, but her staff's, mostly. I ordered a "Latini" margarita, which was a nice break from the overplayed jalapeño margarita, but it could have used some additional heat and less sweetness. The complimentary chips were similar to what I have experienced in Mexico with "totopos de maíz;" a little greasier and thicker, and less salty, than your typical tortilla chip, but these were a little flat and not so crispy. Chips were served with two tipos de salsa, rojo y verde - the red was way too mild, and the green was the better of the two. We ordered one of the "tostadas" as an appetizer; the "Blue Crab." At $7 for two, we received two dollops of blue crab meat with avocado and corn atop two medallion-sized chips. I felt the price was fairly reasonable, given that it was crab meat and we're paying casino fares, but it really was a tiny bit of food. For entrées, we each ordered a taco trio for $16 a pop. Much to our mutual chagrin, we were informed that we could not mix-and-match our three taco choices, which made no sense to us at all, since the taco trios were all priced identically and there was no indication on the menu that we couldn't change them up. I went with the Carne Asada, and my husband chose the Carnitas. We both opted for soft corn tortillas, but my order came out with flour tortillas. At $16, the three street taco-sized baby tacos are served without rice, beans, or any sort of garnish; just the meat of choice sprinkled with perhaps cilantro or cotija cheese, wrapped in a double-corn tortilla. The meats were okay, but they were so bland and lacking any sort of zest, kick, or spice. Not good for the Spice Fiend (me), and even lackluster to my spice-averse hubby. The one highlight for me was the "special" hot sauce and extra side of sliced fresh jalapeños that I received when I asked for more spice - the sauce, habanero in origin and deceptively sweet at first, was a huge hit with me. The staff member who brought it to me told me the chef refers to it as "butthole fire," so eat at your own risk. I found it downright delicious with no ill effects. :P

If I could eat there every day, I would!!! We had such a great experience from the hostess, to our waitress Tiffany, to eating outside overlooking the Inner Harbor, to listening to the Live Music. It's the kind of place that you want to bring every person you know because you know they'll be impressed and full bellied before they leave. Tiffany really made our experience feel like we were at her house as guests. She knew her menu and helped us pick and choose. EVERYTHING we ate was 5 stars. It was SO GOOD that we asked to speak to the manager to brag about Tiffany and the food. We were welcomed warmly. I'm so glad that we have this delicious treasure now in Baltimore; I can't wait to go back!!!

I had really wanted to try Johnny Sanchez, and driving to Baltimore seemed like a good way to kill a lazy Saturday afternoon. Overall, I would say the only thing that was really disappointing was that my appetizer never arrived. Otherwise, it was ok. Food: The good - the carne asada taco, the complimentary chips and salsa, and the rice that came with the tacos were all very, very good. Arguably some of the best carne asada I've ever had, and definitely the best free salsa I've ever had. The meh - I didn't care for the beans. They weren't what I was expecting, and they were maybe too much like chili for me to appreciate them. The barbacoa taco was also kind of lackluster, a little too fatty for my taste. The service: The good - really nice hostesses, polite waitress, my tacos were delivered really quickly. The meh - it took a while to see a server at all in the beginning (I think the hosts need to communicate better that they've seated someone when they're not super busy), my drink took a REALLY long time and didn't arrive until I had finished my dinner (the bartenders told my server it had been delivered, apparently), and I felt like my server could've been more attentive. The bad - the queso I ordered never arrived, even though I asked my server about it and I feel confident that she asked about it and checked with the kitchen. The AWFUL (dear restaurants, please stop doing this) - the guy playing guitar, which started just when my check was dropped off, was sitting about 10 feet from me and had an amp. I don't really enjoy guys with guitars in restaurants, but amplifying it to the point of making the silverware rattle is unbearable. Maybe on the nights you're planning to have a dude with a guitar (again, UGH), you shouldn't seat people in the section so close to the stage.

We came back to try it again, feeling guilty about our lowered star review - and it was WORSE. Well, after an email response from the manager for our last review (albeit a form response), we did agree that we'd give the food another chance because we really did enjoy it that much. I'm not using hyperbole or trying to be mean, but... we really should've just gone to Chipotle. His plate: local greens salad (asked for extra dressing on the side); free range grilled chicken with rice and beans Her plate: tuna tostada (same as September, with ); three taco plate with one crispy gulf shrimp taco and two carne asada tacos The first issue we'll address will be his orders, since they were the new foods we tried. The salad was over dressed. It came with his side of extra dressing, but was already so thoroughly drenched that we split it - picking at the lettuce. The pumpkin seeds were great, but, perhaps if you would like to try it, you should order dressing on the side. The chicken - it's unfortunate that we were surfing reviews right after ordering, because I read a review of how tiny and strange the chicken entree is, and then the tiny and strange entree arrived. It's a quarter chicken - just the thigh and drum, and is a quite small portion for $21. The skin was slimy, the chicken itself was so dry that it was pretty much inedible, and the flavors were muddled. We took home the rice and beans, which made a decent breakfast - he didn't like the rice as it's very floral and full of cilantro. The more major issue was the consistency and changes with the dishes that I'd ordered, as they mirrored our August order but had changed significantly. The tuna tostada was a different cut of fish, and had a grainy, fishy flavor - off, not fresh, and not delicious. It was also missing the jalapeño and garlic chips, and the tostada itself was stale and hard to bite through. Seriously? This is the quality at a high end fusion restaurant? Please look at the below pictures and experience the difference with us. The carne asada taco was less changed, though noticeably less flavorful than it was before. The beef was still tender, but this time it was overcooked - bland and not the beautiful rare (or mid-rare) that the cut should be. The gulf shrimp taco featured one shrimp-sized piece of frying that had no shrimp in it, and two soggy fried shrimp. Not the delicious, crispy experience we'd had before. This time, we really don't feel like we'll be craving the food again and just overlooking bad service or flaky hours. Sorry, but we had much higher expectations!

I must say my second time eating here was more enjoyable than the first. I am sure it's because my first visit was a very busy Friday or Saturday night when the casino first opened and it was packed. It took us an hour just to get seats at the bar and the service wasn't that great. The food was pretty good so the restaurant redeemed itself. This time we went on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The casino and the restaurant were slow so there was no wait. Wet sat on the patio across from the stadiums and listened to the Orioles game as the played in Bmore. Our server Larry was wonderful. We ordered the fish tacos which were scrumptious. The chicken burrito was pretty tasty as well. All in all a good meal!

Went to this place with high expectations, and holy crap was I disappointed. I don't know what's worse, the price or the food. I ordered the pork belly tacos and this place did the impossible, they cooked the pork belly until it tasted like chalk. If I was a judge on chopped, I would probably throw the pork chunks back at the contestant who cooked them and then call an ambulance because I'm sure it will do some serious damage. On a side note, the server was polite but service was poor. She was the only one working at the time and had to navigate the large restaurant with tables seated in all the different corners. I will only come back if the chef gets chopped.

Excellent selection of tacos including inventive ingredients like sweetbreads and stuffed squash blossoms. When they first opened, they only served tacos in sets of three with no mixing of variety (if you wanted the chorizo taco you had to get 3) but they have since fixed that. As a result this is a great place to grab a drink and sample some wonderful flavors. I have only eaten at the bar, but service was fast and friendly.

So I made a reservation for 25 on the main number which apparently takes you to the New Orleans location. Despite me mentioning Horseshoe Casino several times the reservation it was made in NOLA. When my party showed up to the non reservation, reaervation, the manager was super helpful and accommodated our party despite having another large party coming in. The portions were a bit small but the server was AMAZING! She was super nice and the food came out in a timely manner. The portions were a bit small but other than that they experience was good. Thank you for accommodating us.

Visited Johnny Sanchez for the first time today. Very good!!! Between the two of us, we had the fundido, beef barbacoa tacos, and pescado tacos. Some slight refinements could be had... The fundido was a little greasy (even for fundido!!) and the chorizo could use a little more kick. The chipotle mayo in the pescado tacos was a little heavy. And the barbacoa could benefit from a little extra cilantro and onion. But overall -- very good. Drinks were amazing!!! We had the Latino and Roasted Jalapeño Margarita. Service was OUTSTANDING!!! One of the best staffs I've seen. Can't wait to come back.

The food was pretty bland. I got the carne asada and crispy shrimp tacos. The best thing about both of them combined was the pickled carrots and onions on the shrimp tacos. The guacamole was not that good either. The rice was not Spanish rice but the beans were good and has a nice flavor to them. Everything was just so bland, I definitely expected more flavor and the tacos were small and over priced. On a better note service was great. Our waitress was very attentive and the night went well. I would come back again to try a different menu item but I would be very selective.

The BEST Mexican food in Baltimore and I don't know why in the world no one is talking about it! Some friends from New Orleans, which has a location of this place, can't rave enough so I thought I'd brave the casino (Which is not my thing) to try it out. Very surprisingly it was easy (and free) to park and access the restaurant. It's spacious and pretty with sweeping views of the stadiums and downtown Baltimore. Now, the food. It's always a good sign when the chips and salsa are really good. I got the queso fodido with the chips...delish. For entrée I got a three pack of tacos and a three pack of the tostadas. The proof is in the pudding...all six blew my socks off. Truly, if you haven't been the GO! Run..don't walk! It's that effing good...

We had excellent service and solid food on our trip to Johnny Sanchez's, on an otherwise quiet night. It seems it's rougher on busy weeknights and around game time, but on this Monday it was relatively quiet and we had attentive and friendly bartender/waiter. The house chips were a little dry but the salsa was great, and the happy hour beverages had a nice pour. I had a taco combo and both were great; my partner also liked his combo, and we both enjoyed the accompanying beans. I'm not sure the casino is a great location, though, since the noise and flashing lights are pretty distracting.

I have been there for both food and dancing. The food was spectacular. I had the carnitas tacos and crab tostadas. Both were delicious. Also trued the paloma margarita, which is made with grapefruit juice. A kittle sweet, but tasty. A fun, beautifully decorated place. Plus, they have free salsa lesson and dancing on thursdays.

I would like to start with the service. The waitress, the staff, everyone provided excellent service, I was thoroughly impressed. Going on to the actual resteraunt itself. I really liked the ambiance and the outdoor dining area was great with a nice view of the Ravens stadium. Finally the food. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food but the steak tacos were phenomenal. Overall this place is a good place to eat and I will definitely be back.

Having grown up outside of Baltimore, you can imagine my delight when I heard that two high profile chefs--John Besh & Aaron Sanchez were collaborating to create a new upscale taqueria in the Horseshoe casino. My husband and I have eaten at John Besh's italian restaurant in New Orleans and loved the food! Although I have never eaten at an Aaron Sanchez establishment, his allure on FoodNetwork alone told me I wouldn't be disappointed with anything he signed off on. We finally made our way to Johnny Sanchez after the Ravens defeated the Falcons in crippling fashion. By the time the game ended and we walked over to the casino, we realized we were an hour early for our reservation. Lucky for us, the place was pretty barren and we were seated immediately. Although I don't agree with all of the yelp ratings, I do agree with those that say the service was lacking here. Our waiter was friendly and somewhat helpful in navigating the menu, but he didn't seem quite as sharp as we would hope a waiter to be. For instance, we had to remind him several times that we didn't get our complimentary chips/salsa even after waiting for a considerable amount of time; we had to ask for salsa refills, rather than being voluntarily asked if we wanted them. Now, I would understand if the restaurant was busy and he didn't have a chance to circulate, but there were literally 5 total tables occupied in the entire restaurant, so it was somewhat perplexing why service was so inefficient. Fortunately for Johnny Sanchez, what they lack in service, they more than make up for in the quality of the food. You HAVE to order the tacos with the fingerling potatoes, they are so scrumptious and decadent--so good that we ordered these again during the same visit! The tostadas and the brussel sprouts were also exceptional. Yes, the sizes of the dishes are somewhat small relative to the price, but for well-flavored food, I do believe, less is more. We'll definitely be back and hopefully on our next visit, the service situation gets its kinks worked out, because there is a ton of potential here!

I had a great meal here. The decor was beautiful and the service was spot on. My least favorite part of the meal was the margarita. It was just too sweet for my taste. However, everything else was great. We ordered the guacamole for the table and it had just the right kick to it. My favorite was the whole fish. It was whole grilled red snapper (for 2) served with tortillas and pickled vegetables. Make your own fish tacos from a whole grilled fish. The concept was genius and the execution was perfect. I'm excited to try it again.

The food here is so good! It's pretty affordable too. The Barria (goat) entree was the best! The Pork Belly taco was also amazing! The service, however, is ridiculous. They messed up orders, forgot orders, and we're so slow! No one else was even in the restaurant. Definitely do not come here with a big group of people, if you plan to order several courses, or are on a schedule. I also recommend the churros if you get dessert.

I really wanted to enjoy my recent experience at Johnny Sanchez, but the lack of customer service I received made the experience just disappointing. Food service goes pretty late into the evening here and I found myself here dining in a barely filled restaurant at 11 and was sat a little passed the bar. The dining room is beautiful, as is the view of M&T Bank Stadium - filled with rustic tequila barrels and exposed wooden beams, the decor is very beautiful. My problem started once I was seated. My waitress took over 15 minutes to leave the group of employees sitting around chatting with the cooks in the rear of the establishment. Once she arrived I knew that i wanted 4 times over and placed my order for a simple order of pork belly tacos ($12) and a Don Julio Margarita ($13). Complementary chips came and were nice to snack on, but I had no beverage to drink with them- I do enjoy the fact that both green and red salsa are given. 6 minutes later the food arrived, but wait no margarita still... once I mentioned it to the waitress she went to have it corrected, but the terrible overly sweet generic margarita I was given did not have the Don Julio I requested - such a waste of time to even wonder where it was that entire time. You might ask why I didn't have it returned or even a chance to check on where it was, well my waitress never visited my table but three times the entire meal, to give chips / orders, and then the final check. Needless to say I was disappointed, because the food was really good. I am shocked that the service was that horrible. Even crappy restaurants in Vegas have better service than this place. 2 stars is really hard to give but the encounter I had really makes me not want to come back any time soon - sadly.

To readers of this thread, here is an update. First, a day or two after my post one of the partners (not Besh or Sanchez) reached out to apologize and offered to make amends for a bad experience. The call wasn't expected but appreciated, however, since then there has been no follow through on alternatives. Second, as you can see, Horseshoe B eventually responded to my review asking for contact information so someone could reach out directly to me to discuss my experience at his restaurant. Sounds concerned, right? Really to no surprise, I sent my info as he requested and now 16 days later no one has reached out. I suspect that all the other times HorseShoe B has posted a reply to guests highlighting a bad experience it was only for the optics of seeming concerned. My experience suggests they really aren't. My two cents, a bad experience is better left unaddressed than to offer to address it and then not follow through. The in-restaurant experience my group had at Johnny Sanchez was disappointing. The lack of follow through on the unsolicited offers by the establishment to correct the problems compounds my original belief there is no concern for the customer at this place. I doubt I will be back.

My wife and I are food network fans, in particular Aaron Sanchez so we were excited to visit the newly opened Johnny Sanchez in the Baltimore horseshoe casino.the hostess, wait staff, and matre'd were very courteous and helpful with some of the spanish on the menu.hence the one star.We ordered the empanadas appetizer and on a 1-10...a 5.the entrees Arroz con pollo, much arroz little pollo and very bland.my carnitas torta could have been made in any sub shop in baltimore, such a disapointment I could only think of Aaron Sanchez critiqueing various chefs on the show, where is the quality control at this restaurant.having spent some time working and living in New Orleans I feel qualified to speak about that cities sophisticated culinary tastes if Aaron Sanchez and John Besh are going to open a restaurant in NOLA I would caution them to bring their "A" game or risk being "CHOPPED".Our bill including one margherita and one modelo draft $82.00 including tip,not so modest. After attempting to try Johnny Sanchez's for the first time tonight I wish I could give the experience negative stars. My group of 4 got the restaurant around 7 on a Saturday evening. The restaurant wasn't very crowded and we were sat immediately. That is about the last thing the wait staff did correctly. We sat there looking over the menus for 15+ minutes. There were a few servers waiting on tables around us but no one was acknowledging us. Finally, one of us got up and asked another server if we could be helped. After another 5-10 minutes a waitress came over to us with chips and salsa and two waters for our table of four. She didn't greet us, tell us her name, or even address the fact that we have been sitting there waiting for 20 minutes. She abruptly demanded our drink order. We order two beers and two margaritas, a soda, and asked for the other two waters. She stared rudely and walked away. Another 10 minutes later she walks over with just the two waters and soda. She plopped them down on the edge of the table and said "who didn't get water?!". When my friend starts moving the drinks to appropriate person the insanely rude waitress snaps "let me do my job!" and walks away. At this point, we got up and did something I have NEVER done before; we walked out. We briefly explained the horrible experience to a manager on the way out. She tried to apologize but at that point there was no way we were paying a dime to that place. My husband and I have both waited tables previously; we try to be empathetic and understanding with any dining experience. We were more than patient with this restaurant. A few of the tables around us also seemed to be having issues as the managers got called over to their tables. I have never experienced a worse customer service experience at a restaurant. Given the menu prices I was appalled at the brash and rude attitude of the waitress. While the space appeared upscale and trendy the service was beyond disappointing.

Lot of hype for a mediocre Mexican restaurant. The previous reviews are accurate about service. Went on a Saturday night, only half full. We were sat immediately, given drinks immediately, asked 45 seconds later if we were ready to order. We explained we had never been before, and were not sure what to order. The server responded with a simple, "okay" and walked away, offering absolutely zero suggestions. My guest and I decided within the next five minutes, closed our menus, as to give the server a clue. For the next fifteen minutes our server continue to pass by, as we tried to wave her down. Finally, she looked at us and walked over apologizing that she had completely forgot we had not ordered. We tried the fish for two with local veggies, and a two taco plate. The fish was over by about two or three minutes, making it sort of chewy and dried out, the fresh local veggies that came with it were old, and smothered in cilantro and lacking salt. For the two taco plate, we ordered the pork belly and carne asada. For the pork belly, I was expecting a ton of flavor to burst, as I took my first bite. It was under seasoned, and smothered in oil. The entire tortilla was soaked, it was so under seasoned all I really tasted was the tortilla and grease. I'll leave the carne for last, on to the rice and beans. The rice is a green rice with queso fresca, it was interesting. Under seasoned, again, the beans were nothing special either. The only reason Johnny Sanchez is receiving any stars is the redeeming carne asada taco. One of the best tacos I've ever eaten, and certainly glad it was the last thing I tasted, or else I would have left completely unsatisfied with a $100 bill.

It really is a shame the service isn't good, because the food is great. This is the second time I've been here. Got the guacamole, which is great. Fresh chips. There's too much guac! Good enough for 3. Tacos are great as well. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. Service this time did not meet standards or expectations. It took too long to take drink order, did not check up on the meal, and the check took way too long as well. It is especially disappointing since you can see several servers bunched up talking amongst themselves with their phones.

I wish there was a way I could put NO STARS. This restaurant was a serious disappointment. The managers are HORRIBLE. The service is extremely slow...and the food is average. Last night April 4, 2015. My brother in law celebrated his birthday. We arrived at 630 with reservations and didn't leave the restaurant until 1100 pm. We had one server on a table of 15 guests. It took an hour and a half to receive our food. Some of the guest food was cold and most of the food was warm. The restaurant drop our birthday cake and tried to fault us. Then the manager never apologized or tried to help the situation. It was an unruly experience and this restaurant would never get a single dime again from me. They have HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I wish I would have told my sister to check yelp because it seems like a trend!!!!

The wife and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a few months now and finally made it out this past Thursday with a 40% off coupon we got out of the paper. The service: We had 8:30 reservations and arrived around 8:10 and were seated right away. Our waitress, I believe her name was Tiffany, was efficient and made sure to check in on us from time to time. No issues with the service. The food: The food was god awful! I ordered the 2 taco platter (steak and shrimp) and the wife also had the 2 taco platter (fish and shrimp). We absolutely hated our platters. The steak was luke warm at best. The fish and shrimp most certainly came from the freezer- not fresh at all! The rice and beans were both cold. As previous reviewers have stated, very underwhelming for the money you will pay. The queso fundido was ok. Not great, but not terrible. Very greasy but we sort of knew that before ordering by reading previous reviews. The drinks: EXPENSIVE!!!!!! Not even worth telling you what we got. Just know 2 cocktails cost $25. We were left wondering how 2 well-known chefs could/would put their name and reputations on the line for this kind of food. This restaurant has their work cut out for them.

This is only my second yelp review ever but after reading some of the negative reviews on this awesome place I feel like now is the time to start yelping! Best food/service/vibe in the casino hands down! Our waitress. Stephanie. was friendly and fun to be around. The jalapeño margarita was amazing and the chips & guac, Brussels sprouts and tacos are spot on. Definitely give this place a try. Do Not got to jack binions- terrible!!

Let me start out by saying that I have been to Johnny Sanchez many times both in New Orleans and now Baltimore. My husband and I were so excited when we heard that it was coming to Baltimore and have tried to frequent this location as much as possible since its opening. The food is great, but my most recent experience with the servers there has left me with such a sour taste in my mouth that I will most certainly not be returning and have instructed my friends and colleagues to do the same. Let me explain why: On Thursday, March 19, my husband and I attended the City Paper cocktail party where Horseshoe had set up a booth and advertised that Johnny Sanchez (as well as another location in Horseshoe) would be offering drink specials. Specifically they noted that Johnny Sanchez would be offering two for one drinks for those that came to the "City Paper Afterparty" with our wristband at Johnny Sanchez. When we arrived at bar at Johnny Sanchez we asked if the advertised "2 for 1 drink special" included margaritas. This bartender asked another bartender and replied that it did. Relying on this information, we ordered 2 margaritas each (thinking they would be 2 for 1 priced). When we received our bill, we noticed that we were charged full price and inquired with the manager about this discrepancy. He informed us that margaritas are never included in 2 for 1 pricing and that the bartender that gave us this information was in training and was mistaken. I asked that due to the misinformation from one of his staff that he honor the information given to us and remove the charges from our bill. He flat out and rudely refused to do so. We paid the entirety of our bill and left, noting that we will not be returning. What happened to the "customer is always right"? What happened to detrimental reliance on YOUR staff's own misinformation to a customer and then refusing to honor it? Regardless of how much we enjoy the food and atmosphere, we will not return to a restaurant that makes it apparent that it does not respect its customers.

The management and wait/bar staff should be commended. They are very accomodating and easy to work with. They were helpful in helping me set up a group even. The staff was super attentive. Hands down, a great crew. Happy Hour complimentary chips and salsa - Yes! Delicious! The Margarita was good - the red sangria, grossly sweet. Tacos - lovely! Friends had the churros and loved everything. We had many first timers. I will be back. I will plan more group events here.

(10/11/2014) We celebrated a birthday at the casino, and in general, it was all classier that I expected (although went in with some realistically low expectations). Mexican food in Baltimore not in a super dive with a butcher/grocers attached are usually pretty watered down and abysmal. Was thinking another refried bean and chimichanga joint, but Johnny Sanchez (John Besh and Aron Sanchez's place) was actually better than I expected. Have had huitlacoche, warning, it tastes like dirt, but you might be into that. Surprisingly, cactus, goat, sweetbreads on the menu. Price point is downtown (steep), but portions reasonable and a lot of more sophisticated things on a menu than I expected. You are held a little hostage outside of the Harbor area, south of the stadiums and right in the middle of what used to be an industrial wasteland (bordered by the animal shelter, a Royal Farms, and the U-Store-It), but food was pretty decent, and the poor graduate student playing classical guitar seriously has some skills.

I have been here a few times for salsa dancing and have always had a fabulous time. I decided to make a reservation and eat here and boy what a mistake that was. I think this was the worst food i have ever eaten in a latin restaurant. We made reservations and upon arriving, found ourselves waiting without receiving any greeting or acknowledgement of our presence for about 15 minutes while we watched the pregnant hostess walk around and talk to wait staff instead of doing her job. She clearly has not been trained on how to be a hostess because that would be unacceptable to me as a manager. When the hostess finally decided to come to the front and work and deal with the line of people who had formed, she disappeared again for a few minutes to chat and stand around and many of us were very confused. She finally came to us and seated us. Our waitress was very nice and friendly and promptly took our order. I ordered the Sangria-it was terrible. It tasted like kool-aid, all sugar. I have never had bad sangria before and this was a horrible one. I generally love sweet drinks, but i ordered sangria not sugar water/ Then came the food. My husband ordered empanadas and chicken quesadillas. He said the empanadas were cold inside and the chicken in the quesadillas stunk. I ordered the snapper which is supposed to feed two people. Um no way. It was a small snapper that had no seasoning except for the lime that i could taste was squeezed on top of it. I have had snapper many a times but never one that tasted like nothing and lime. Also, the free chips were very hard and hurt my teeth. I was wondering if they are overcooked or just stale. Wow, what a disappointment. I will never eat here again but will be back for salsa. Whoever is responsible for this place needs to hire a professional hostess who know what the job entails which is not talking to wait staff and standing around and they need to revamp the menu and get new ingredients. The food is just plain horrendous.

Three and a 1/2. The chips and salsa were some of the best I've had in the Baltimore area. Could use a little more heat, but pretty darn good. I was disappointed in the Queso Fundido, however. Way too much chorizo! This dish should have been mostly cheese and with large identifiable pieces of roasted peppers. Instead it was mostly chorizo and I couldn't find much else. Tacos were great. Barbacoa was my favorite, followed by pork belly and pescado. Coconut tres leches was flavorful, but had too much cake spread out all over the plate making a mostly dry experience. I would have taken a smaller portion with the flavors more cohesive. I'd go back, but be more selective about my dishes.

This was our third visit to Johnny Sanchez. The first two visits were problems with food. This time the food was good but service was horrible. We first ordered two iced teas and an appetizer. The appetizer came out but no drinks. When our waitress came back we ordered two additional items and again asked for two iced teas. That was the last time our waitress stopped by until it was time for the check. Our order of two tacos came out and there was only one. We still have not received our drinks at this point. Our waitress made several appearances at the table next two ours and we tried to get her attention short of falling on the floor in front of her but she ignored us completely. She showed up finally with the check and said how sorry she was for never bringing our drinks. I gave her my rewards card with the check and we were still charged the higher of the posted prices on the menu. I also didn't receive credit for what I spent towards rewards. I'm sorry, this place is too expensive for what you get to put up with this garbage. This was the third strike. YOU'RE OUT !!

My fiance loves the cooking network she was so excited to eat at Aaron Sanchez's place. We went last night for her birthday and it was the BIGGEST let down. The food here is OK at best. To have such a simple menu (it's only 2 pages) you would assume that to mean that everything is gonna taste amazing...well you would be wrong like we were!! The food taste good but was luke warm at best. The portions were small...while the prices were not!! The drinks should have been free with how long it took to actually get a drink, though this could have been our servers fault and not the bar. Service was subpar at best. Our waitress was slow, uninformed, and over all distant and uninterested in her job. For some reason there was a DJ making it ridiculously hard to talk to the person across from me at my own table. Not going back!!

This place was disorganized and not worth the price. Food was substituted without checking to see if we wanted that substitution. Good was inconsistent. Place was empty but you couldn't chose your seat. Would not recommend to anyone

I thought the food was awesome! I have a hard time debating between 2 or 3 stars for this place because I really enjoyed the food but the service was lack thereof! We noticed other tables getting chips and salsa but we weren't even offered any..we kept waiting around for water refills..we couldn't even find our waitress

My friend and I went here for our Christmas lunch get together. The service went from bad to worse. First the hostess was more interested in flirting with her male friend then in greeting us. After we were seated (the restaurant was not crowded) we ordered a cocktail which took 15 minutes to arrive. When my friend ordered the waiter then said or we don't have that dish today. Ok it would have been nice to mention this prior to us reviewing the menu. So we ordered an appetizer to share, 2 entrees and a bottle of wine which I requested with our entree. The entrees came and we were so startled that I said is this our entree? Another person (not our waiter) said yes and when I asked about our appetizer the response was oh I can go get it if you want it. Well not now since our entrees are here and who wants both at the same time. So we started our entree and I was wondering at this point where our bottle of wine was. The waiter finally came by as I flagged him down. I asked for our wine and he replied oh yea let me get that. We continued to eat and when we were finished our entree the wine arrives. Needless to say I said we did not want it now that we were finished. The food was tasty but I felt the presentation - plating could have been better. It was just a bowl with the food which could have been dressed up a bit if it was on a plate or even if the bowl sat on a plate. Our water glasses were never refilled. No one asked if we were enjoying the meal. When I requested to see the manager we waited yet again. Finally I got up went to the hostess stand she was still chatting up her friend when I interrupted her to request the manager come over to our table. The manager came over and when we tried to explain the issues with the meal and our service she looked at me with this blank expression. Finally she says well I'm sorry. Clearly not only was the waiter untrained but the manager had no training to deal with the public. We were so disappointed with the experience we had here. We were expecting to have a festive holiday lunch but it was overshadowed by terrible service.

The place to go for a tasty set of tacos! My non-vegetarian friends loved their orders too. Besides food, beautiful ambience, and friendly service are just the right elements you need to make your dining experience enjoyable. Only thing is, the beans contain pork, however, waitress did mention that without being asked, and it is really appreciated! However, it would be better if they had an option of serving beans without pork as well. Since you are in casino, you can utilise your total rewards points to get appropriate discounts which worked pretty fine for our group of 5. So go ahead and enjoy a nice Mexican meal.

I am a true foodie and love these 2 chefs. Have not been to Johnny Sanchez, but will be going tonight with a friend. I am a little nervous because the good reviews are ok and the bad ones are awful. I am really big on service and flavor. Hoping they won't disappoint.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
