Just came back from Kebab Factory's lunch buffet--not bad. I spent 3 months in India (Delhi mostly), so I guess you could say I've had "authentic" stuff here and there. Overall, the food/selection was pretty good, but I felt like some of the sauces were a bit off. I was glad they had pani puri and CHAI, because I trust this place over some street stall in India. Pani Puri was pretty good--definitely different than eating it on the side of the street. I freakin love Chai. It's pretty much the only thing I really crave since coming back from India. The Chaiiiiiiiii-wala was my buddy. Ek Chai! The chai wasn't bad..I prefer more of a gingery taste though. oh well. However strangely enough, my stomach did not totally agree with something I ate, and I didn't have too much of an issue with this in India. Go figure. Maybe India made me weaker. who knows. OH and it was crowded. I don't mind busy, but during the buffet the tables were crammed together...literally, not even a foot between tables, which makes it a big pain to get more food..I thought my butt was gonna knock over somebody's drink as I tried to squeeze through. It was quite awkward. Maybe that's their secret to get people to eat less. sneaky sneaky.

Dont waste your time or hard earned money ordering from these people. My order got here over two hours late, the naan was cold and soggy and the food was a disgusting oily mess. Needless to say, not doing that again!

This was my birthday dinner, and I think everybody loved it. It seemed a little modern-ish in both decor and cuisine, which was good, I think. It certainly didn't seem like the same old stuff we order at Masala Art, Bombay Club, etc.

I have never been here for dinner, but the lunch buffet is the best in Cambridge. (Many people would argue with this.) Everything is great, although it is admittedly heavy. The goat curry is always perfect (I love goat) and the tandoori chicken is tender, salty and perfect. The vegetable dishes with vegetable dumplings and the occasional fish dish are really good. I find their paneer dishes somewhat too heavy, lots of cream and almonds. Nonetheless, for 9$, you can't go wrong. Only go if you are starving and eat as much as possible. This is the only acceptable strategy for indian lunch buffets.

It's the best Indian food in Boston. They have a great lunch buffet deal for about $7. Can't beat the price and taste.

I was taken here by a friend who would not stop raving about this place. And boy was he right about how great it is! I've only had the buffet on a Sunday, but it was great. There were many vegetarian options and loved how the naan bread was brought hot and fresh to the table! The service was ok, but nothing great we had plenty of water and naan which is all we needed. I don't normally like mushrooms, but I could not get enough of the mushroom soup. It was creamy, smooth and was perfectly seasoned. The soup is reason enough to return again. I think the buffet was about $12 and worth it since it was all you could eat and you are able to try many dishes without have to spend all that money. Their rice was nothing exciting and dry. I suggest you just dip your naan bread into the curries and not waste your time on the rice. The onion chutney was like nothing I've ever had before, it was sweet and spicy and great to dip a samosa in. Nothing was really spicy, but they are probably trying to please everyone. Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Will defiantly return.

The Kebab Factory tonight and now I can do little more than recline on my bed, watch the one channel of cable I flipped on when I came in (lost remote issue) and wonder how I can scare up someone to go back with me as soon as possible. The meat, sauces and bread were better than any I have had in years. The service was very attentive and pleasant. The presentation of the food was quite pretty -- I really enjoyed the modern, bright colors in a surprisingly small, but high-ceilinged and windowed place. The candles in the evening are nice too. It may be just a bit pricey for a full dinner, but it was a very nice Saturday evening. Now I must take the laptop off my tummy as I am still too full.

Pleasantly surprised by all the food I had here!! Started with a complimentary mushroom soup which was to die for. Never had soup at an Indian place but I would come back here just for this especially when it gets colder outside, since I live in the neighborhood. Then we had the lamb simosas... Also delicious. Went very well with the mint chutney. Then I had the paneer saag.... Also delicious. Came with white rice. Good size portion, enough to take home. We also had the garlic naan which was also wonderful, very garlicky. We were disappointed in their drink selection... No hard liquor, only wine and beer and the beer selection was eh. We both tried Indian beers which were lagers just like buds. The service was also very good and responsive. So except the lack of lovely alcohol choices I really enjoyed this place and will definitely come back here for good Indian food. Next time maybe I'll actually try the kebabs!!

I am not a big Indian food guy but this place was fantastic. A lot of Indian restaurants can look ghetto, sketchy and downright nasty-to me that is an indication of being sick and risking e coli but this place is nice. The Kebab Factory has the appeal of a fancy dining restaurant but is actually very casual and has an awesome buffet. It is right across from Dali and about 15 minutes walk from Harvard Square. I usually despise buffets because it is so quintessentially "FAT AMERICAN PIG" but this one was great and I swear I had several orgasms in my mouth from the stuff that was bright orange, olive green and deep red-whatever the hell that was it was fucking good. The naan is soft, fresh and tasty. The staff is super friendly and I didn't mind the large flat screen with CNN on it. Two thumbs way up!

Face it, there's a lot crappy Indian restaurants in Cambridge/Somerville. There's a lot of Indian restaurants and there's alot of crappy Indian restaurants. This one shines above -- really well done meals, great presentation, good menu selection, nice ambiance... tthey are not by any means traditional except for the mainstays from any Indian restaurants menu which they excelled at. Please don't eat here; it's tiny and I don't want to start having to wait in line for a table or, god forbid, make a reservation. The name and signage is a little tacky (see Fire and Ice as an examplel) and the coasters seem like slightly outdated giveaways by the big beer corporations.

This cozy yet funky Indian restaurant has unique tables, helpful wait staff and an array of delicious delicacies. "Yes I said yes I will yes," these last lines of James Joyce's Ulysses, apply so fully to their ground lamb patties.

I love how I discovery the best Indian food I've had in Boston 4 days before I move to Michigan...sigh. Now I won't make claims that this is the best Indian IN Boston, but it is certainly the best I've had. This is a cute little place that serves some very delicious food. My only complaint was the folks sitting at the table next to us were F'ing loud. An unfortunate side-effect of the Kebab Factory's size.

I've been driving past this place for years and finally decided to order delivery from them. What a disappointment. After being told that our order would be ready in 30-45 minutes, we wait an hour and a half before inquiring. They didn't log our address and phone number correctly, how convenient! They say that they can deliver it right away, so I agree but only if the food is still okay. "Sure, sure." What shows up? Soggy cold food. But they did throw in a dessert for free, woop dee doo.

Kebab Factory is a very small and unassuming place, but it offers some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Ofcourse, it helps to go with friends who are Indian and know what to order :) For that reason, I can't remember the exact name of all the plates, but the chicken tikka masala and naan are delicious.

The lunch buffet is glorious (for $8 on weekdays, a steal). Go before noon or expect a wait. Everything is nicely laid out and fresh (no tubs of congealed gunk). The buffet includes hot chai and dessert (kheer), which makes it even better. They sometimes will come around to your table with something fresh from the kitchen. Dinner prices are more in line with reality but it's worth it for the kebabs.

Great tasting food, great service for take-out (they give you a little cup of soup while you wait). Four stars because it is a little expensive... but you get what you pay for!

Although I do go here semi regularly, theyre getting 3 stars, and here's why: Well, they are ridiculously over priced! That a big one to me! Also, they charge for naan, which, I dont think is too cool. Other than that, the very [americanized] food is tasty. I recommend the brunch highly. Its small, fresh and you can go alone if you want to w/o feeling weird. Brunch is on Sunday only, and I think the price for it is decent. If you get take out, they give you free soup while you wait.

My Indian friend told me that he thought this was the best Indian food in Boston - that's all I need to get me to go. Little pricey - but definitely worth it and you get what you paid for in the food and in the ambiance of the place. I love the tables, they are glass tables with sections of different colored beans and rice, if someone could tell me how I could get one of these tables, I would be very grateful. The Kabobs and curries are awesome, I pretty much haven't had anything that is not awesome. The past few times they've given me a little tiny bowl of soup (cauliflower), even when I just come in for takeout, it's so cute and delicious! Yes, they do take out and delivery and you can pick up a coupon out front for 10% of your takeout order from 3 pm - 6pm.

I am obsessed--OBSESSED-with Indian food and indian food buffets. I devote way too much of my time/money searching for those perfect little indian joints that make your whole day better. Kebab Factory is, by FAR, the best Indian restaurant I have found. I have traveled the west and east coasts of the US and a large chunk of Asia (not India, I'll get there some day...) and this is the best. I cannot say enough good things about the service, buffet, prices and food. It's a little small, so call ahead and make a ressie if you can. Great, great, great.

The place tends to often be crowded for the lunch buffets and on weekends (it is both extremely small and extremely popular), though it's actually very pleasant during weekday evenings when things aren't quite as busy. However, despite the crowds (and the unimaginative name), the Kebab Factory is worth going to (repeatedly) for some of the best food any Indian restaurant in town has to offer. While the buffets are pretty good, I'd recommend going for dinner. Right from the complimentary soup of the day (usually cauliflower, mushroom, or potato-and-garlic) to the appetizers, curries, kebabs and desserts, the food is remarkably flavorful. It also is one of those restaurants where nearly every dish is well-made. I would strongly recommend the Dahi Key Kebab (Yogurt Kebabs), Kali Mirch Ke Tikkey (Black Pepper Kebabs) and the Chicken Chili. They also do a very good job with the more common Indian restaurant fare like the Samosas, Tandoori Chicken, and the Tikka Masala. Negatives include the aforementioned crowds (and longish waits) at the lunch buffets and on weekends. The quality of service can also be somewhat up and down (usually depending on how crowded the place is at the time).

The kebab Factory was the one Indian restaurant I came to know first after landing at Boston. My friends (bachelor) who stayed even i Connecticut travelled all the way to Boston to have food at The Kebab Factory. The first time I was there, it was with lotsa hope and a great craving to have delicious Indian food (obviously missed it a lot after leaving home) the food was okay not the celebrating type though. The chicken chilli curry was the dish which made us walk too and fro between the food counter and the table otherwise every other dish there was common and I almost made eveything back home. Atlast my husband hinted that I made better dhal makhani than that was served there. The tables were great but too small for a party of 7 our plates and glasses dint allow anything more to be placed on the table. The waiter dint care to ask us for a drink. Oops we had 2 kids with us and they had a tough time with no proper seats and they werent offered water in plastic cups with straws... We had to flag the waiter a couple of time and with least care he came down to us to take care of our needs, but we had to wait a while to get a cup of water, thank heavens we still had water in sippers but the kids wanted water in cups oh I dont understand which business doesnt understand kids needs. The rotis were good and when we asked for an extra basket of roti (which is usually a common practice to refill everytime the basket was empty) the waiter was relectant to bring one oh yeah it was just a basket of rotis and not his money that we asked for... Anyways I dint wanna step into The kebab factory again this time it was for my little brother, he just fell in love with the Kebabs and so did I, there was a great deal of change in the menu and the food tasted good, all we expected was a few scoops of icecreams in buffet and yet the attitude of the waiters there havent changed that was definitely a disappointment. Anyways its never again to this never land called The Kebab Factory.

Tasty, tasty, tasty. The 2 carnivores and 2 vegetarians at our meal all left with full, contented bellies. Edit: Went there last night and it was only so-so. The service was a little ornery, though the food was still good.

When a friend suggested Kebab Factory, during my trip to Boston, for dinner, I was mentally prepared for a variation of Indian food and going by the slightly high scale decor, a decent variation of Indian food. The ambiance should have been the first clue. The place is dark, so dark that you cannot even see your food. As it turns out, that is a good thing. First, the kebabs. What should have been a succulent, mouth watering treat quickly turned into half roasted pieces of tough meat cuts, and not fully cooked (I couldn't see, but was suggested by the texture and the urge to hurl later at night by 2 in our party). We should have walked out right then, but we were on a self destructing frenzy. It was followed by a "salad" - don't know what it really was, so can't comment on it. Followed by the lassi which tasted like yogurt flavored water with sugar. Out came the main dishes - one chicken, one lamb, one fish. The names are not particularly important because I assure you, you could have ordered something else and it would have tasted the same. Actually I take that back. I could not have tasted the same as there was no taste! The only saving grace of the meal was the water which didn't taste like sewage. I am one who cannot eat a lot. A few bites, just for taste and I am full. I left that place hungry. If this is the last place on earth left to eat, I would rather eat my toilet paper first.

I am in love with this place at the moment. My co-worker just brought me some take out from their lunch buffet and the food is so darn good!! I have never been a big fan of Indian and as I am eating this, I have no idea what half of what I am eating is, but all I know is that I will be back. Every single thing she put in the container is good, its amazing that i have worked next door to them for five years and have never thought of giving it a try. I highly recommend their lunches and as I get more acquainted with the dishes I will share all the goodness on the menu!!

deliciousness wrapped in a pakora bubble and doused in curry. they do things right here. if you order take out they will wrap things up neatly and deliver it to you with a quickness. if an indian person tells me this place is good, i'll lean towards agreeing w/them (even if they are british indians). if my belly tells me this place is good, i'll always agree w/my belly.

I eat here frequently because I live right near by. The food is always excellent and always high quality. You don't have to worry about mystery meat like you do at other indian restaurants. The food is never greasy. It's surely one of the best indian restaurant in Boston. However, while I have always been pleased and satisfied, I've never been wowed. The menu is similar to all other indian restaurants and while excellent, there's little creativity. I keep hearing London has amazing Indian restaurants, so until I can jet off there for dinner, Kebab Factory will have to do.

I recently moved to Queens, NY, where Indian buffet is very easy to find. However, I still miss Kebab factory. Each choice of brunch meals are always kept fresh, and each curry still has slightly different combination of spices that you can taste. I still cannot find it here in Queens, NY. (Unless I pay fortune, of course). Very recommended.

Average Indian food. However, like other Indian restaurants, they add sugar to EVERYTHING, even though Indian food is not sweet like this.

I cannot longer count with two hands the many times we've been to the Kebab Factory. The experience gets better everytime. The food is the BEST in all of Boston. The service is excellent. Love their soups, the Korma ...etc

I would come here for lunch all the time while my dad was staying at Spaulding rehab. I would order both off the buffet and the menu- very consistent service, food, and experience. Really good pricing. I love Indian food and this wasn't just nasty meat covered in sauces and spices- it was actually really good, delicious, authentic Indian food. I also like that they don't cram the seas in here, I like the seating situation.

Arguably the best Indian in the Boston area. Yes, over even Tamarind Bay. Well it's at least arguable... Every single thing I've ordered at Kebab Factory is outstanding. The sheermal bread is amazing. The biryanis are among the best I've had. The kebabs are spiced and roasted to perfection. The vindaloo and korma are fantastic. You get the picture. Kebab Factory is not by any stretch of the imagination "your basic Indian food." The menu is unusually inventive, and even the traditional dishes show great distinction. I like that they have so many healthy items on the menu. I'm thinking of the large selection of tandoori fish and chicken entrees. Best malai kofta I've ever had. Excellent (for an Indian restaurant) wine-by-the-glass and beer list (bottles of Duvel at $4.50, Bonny Doon riesling and Cline zinfandel at $5.50 per glass). The lunch buffet is excellent. And they deliver, free within a limited area, at their whim. Highly recommended.

My favorite Indian restaurant in the Boston area. I love the chicken dhaniwal korma, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and lamb biryani. I didn't care for the chicken biryani, however.

My favorite Indian buffet in Boston, bar none (and I'm a big fan of Indian buffet). I find all of their dishes to be exceptionally good, and the nice thing is that unlike some buffets, the menu changes from week to week so it doesn't get boring. If you can go during the week it is cheap - I think $8. Weekends they bump the price. As noted, the restaurant is pretty small, so going at peak times equals long waits.

Good food, good service, and good atmosphere add up to a solid 4 stars for The Kebab Factory. My friends and I ordered chicken and lamb tikka masala dishes and also chicken and lamb kebabs. Everything was delicious. The kebabs were juicy; for the tikka masala dishes, there was a good amount of meat and I liked the sauce. The presentation of the food added a nice touch to the meal (and the kebabs came in interesting metal vase-like containers, too), as did the little shrimp appetizers on the house (they did sort of taste like wings, though...). Naan and mango lassi were standard, although the mango lassi was pretty overpriced at almost $5. Great place to go with friends or a date.

This place is awesome. Our favorite Indian restaurant when we lived in Boston. The Kebabs are very tender and flavorful. Any menu item we ordered was enjoyed. The Biryani is spicy and the tikka masala is really yum. We enjoyed the ambiance there too. It is a smaller joint, and we always saw alot of take-out occurring when we dined in. Miss The Kebab Factory.

I have to admit that I automatically give any Indian place at least three stars...I love Indian food...and I love that Boston has so much to choose from. Anyway...my (Indian) husband and I went here the other day for the buffet. He was not impressed...mostly because its a little too hip for our tastes (we tend to love the hole in the wall with amazing food type joints) and they don't have naan on the buffet (you have to wait for them to bring it your table). Seeing as we don't eat rice when we go to the buffets, as neither of us can make it at home, this is a little inconvenient. My argument, though, is that when they bring it to you its freshly made... I did definitely notice some things that Kebab Factory does that are a step above the rest of the buffets around town: - they have chai at the buffet..yeah! free tea with meal...as it should be... - they Had a shrimp dish (MANGO shrimp no less) - the food was brought out in small batches, included the simple but yummy vegetable stir fry..so no scraping the bottle of the pot for dried up palak paneer Overall, the food was fresh and yummy and the staff was attentive and friendly. However, still a little out of the way and hip to add it to my "fav finds" list.

I'm a little torn about this place. The food is quite good, but the space is tiny and the service pretty awful. We went for the lunch buffet, which is an EXCELLENT spread and deal! I highly, highly recommend going for the buffet. Much wider selection than any other Indian buffet I've been to, and the food was fresh and delicious. There's even dessert and a delicious chai masala tea! I've also been for dinner, which was a very EH experience. They really shouldn't cram that many tables in--I was practically sitting on a woman's lap from another table. It was a really uncomfortable experience. The food was good, albeit pricey in my opinion. They forgot our drinks and service overall was non-existent. Go for the buffet, skip the pricey, cramped dinner.

  • Gautham D.

The food in the kebab factory was really good. The lunch buffet is a good spread and on the weekends they give you this really nice rice crepes filled with seasoned potatoes called masala dosa which is absolutely delicious. The kebabs are really good for the adventurous types like me I would recommend the Kali Mirch Ki Tikkey and the Pudina Neza Kebab. The kashmiri shrimp curry, the chicken korma and the tikka masala are decent. The cons are it is small, crowded and can get a tiring if you are trying to have a nice quiet lunch. It is highly advisable to go there around 11.30 am or after 1.00 pm right after you beat the lunch rush. The service staff is good and the main thing is that you don't smell of curry after you leave the place.

As a veteran Indian foodie, I've been to well over 20 indian buffets in or near Massachusetts (been to a couple in San Francisco as well). The Kebab Factory is hands down one of the best if not the best Indian buffet and restaurant I've been to, period. For a ridiculously cheap price of $7.95 (weekday) you can stuff yourself silly with some really high quality food. All the meat dishes (chicken tikka masala, goat curry, this grilled chicken thingy) were perfectly cooked and tender. Their kheer was the best I've had, not too thick or overly sweet. Their chutney was just right, tangy with some kick but not overly oniony. Even their watermelon was spot on and really red and ripe. Anything less than 5 stars for the Kebab Factory is an insult. Yes this place is a little cramped but I honestly can't knock this place for it's size since they can't control the size of the building. The phenomenal food is well worth the crampiness. Heck if they served their food inside a closet I'd still go there. Must pass out from food coma now..............................

This place. Is awful. It is a realy lousy place to eat. Let me break it down the experience here: 1. It is pretty cramped. The waiters continously bumped into my chair. Do not dine in. It feels like a closet. 2. The service is garbage. You gotta bend over backward to get someone to look at you. EVEN WHEN THE DINING ROOM IS EMPTY. The staff is rude and slow as possible. 3. The food. This god awful food. Are you serious Kebab factory? A. The paneer pakora was hardly fried. The cheese was hard and had absolutely no taste. It feels a little more like soap pakora. B. Kundan Kaaliya. Creamy curry ordered medium. This curry was so ungodly bland. Bland curry. I've never had a bland curry in my life. $18.50 for this milquetoast, culinary disaster. Avoid it, it is insulting beyond repair. C. Cheese naan. Again, the cheese was hardly melted. Felt like a half cooked grilled cheese sandwich. Naan. NAAN?! Seriously? You manage to screw up a decent naan bread too?! What on earth can you do right?! So, We ate a few bites each, and felt like we both felt like we just bit into a pit of despair. On top of everything else, our stomachs felt the same way. The complete absence of culinary competency resonaned in our stomaches with gurgles and groans of regret. In summary, this was not tasty. This was not fun. I really love indian food, and there are some great places, like Punjabi Dhaba down the street. Half the price, and a million times the quality. Or eat anywhere else for that matter. Plenty of places are a better choice. Seriously, I'm never going back.

Finally got one of the kebabs for which the restaurant is named (I usually stick with a couple of favorites). It was fantastic. Everything was delicious, the rice, the sauces, the saag (my mainstay). No room for dessert that night - but when I've had the lunch buffet, ending with the rice pudding and the chai leaves a lovely lingering taste. Enjoy!

This is our go to indian place. I have never ordered anything and not enjoyed it! The servers are always friendly and the delivery guy is very friendly!! There isn't much seating inside, but it is pretty. They don't have any parking, you can sometimes find a permit spot on the street and there is a small lot behind the restaurant (not sure if it's really for the restaurant but we've used it shhhh!!)

Do NOT order delivery from Kebab Factory! We ordered delivery from Kebab Factory last night for the first time. It will also be our last time. 1. The price that Kebab Factory charged was different than displayed on Yelp. For example, the "Chef's Kebab Sampler" is priced on Yelp at $21.95, but on Kebab Factory's own website, we later found that the same dish is priced at $26.50. Similarly, the "Chicken Tikka Masala" is $13.95 on Yelp but $14.99 on the restaurant website. (These discrepancies are current as of 17 Jan 2015.) The result: we were overcharged about $10 compared to Yelp-displayed prices. 2. The delivery arrived very late. The restaurant told us it would be 45 minutes. After 75 minutes, we called the Kebab Factory asking what had happened. Only then did the delivery driver appear. It is possible that he had arrived on time and been waiting in the lobby; we couldn't tell for sure. 3. The delivery driver immediately began yelling at us, saying that he'd been calling our number, and accusing us of refusing to answer the phone. We politely explained that he and Kebab Factory must have the wrong number. The driver was almost screaming at us at this point. He angrily pulled out the receipt, jabbed at it with his finger, and insisted that we prove to us that we had the wrong number. We patiently showed him where the phone number he was pointing to had a "2" instead of a "7", and explained that the Kebab Factory dispatcher must have keyed in the wrong number. 4. Despite this delivery driver's amazing rudeness, we still felt sorry for him, thinking that maybe he'd been waiting and calling the wrong number, and so we gave him an overlarge tip (on top of the delivery fee). But we were also upset because we hadn't done anything wrong and we didn't deserve this treatment. 5. As the driver pondered the incorrect phone number, his expression suddenly changed. Perhaps he realized that he was getting a good tip in spite of his ridiculous behavior. In any case, he didn't say any more, or apologize -- he just disappeared without a word. 6. The food that we received was very good. But it wasn't almost-$30-per-person good. TL;DR -- DON'T order delivery from Kebab Factory. Or if you do, be prepared for a long wait and double-check the price.

I've now been to the Kebab Factory enough times to claim the Duke title. Though I've been to many Indian restaurants in Boston, it's clear to me that this Indian joint ranks among the very best in the city. Even something simple like the garlic naan bread or the vegetable samosas is downright fantastic. If you come here during the lunch hour, prepare to be delighted by one of the most delicious and least expensive Indian buffet specials in town, at a quality you'd expect for dinner. 9/10, would do again.

This is a cute, cozy place that definitely has more appeal in the evening than during the day, when it's mostly dead. They've got really interesting decorations and definitely make the presentation of the meal a priority, which adds to the experience. They've got a great chicken vindaloo and mango lassi!

Some of the best Indian in Metro Boston. Chicken Dhaniwal Korma ($14.95) is a rich dish flavored intensely with corriander. The "Factory Specials" are all somewhat unusual and delicious. Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Massala are also dishes that involve tender chicken and distinct spices. Mostly a take out/delivery joint with parking hard to find, the reason the food is so good is that the majority of their business is delivery. On my and my girlfriend's last visit, we were the only people in the restaurant. However, there were two guys answering the phones and four chefs pumping out curry, biryani and dal for the revolving door of delivery drivers that kept entering and exiting. Because it's all delivery and there's such high volume, the food is always fresh and the ingredients even fresher. Real usage of expensive herbs and spices keep prices on the higher side but you're getting your money's worth. The delivery is excellent as well. No beer or alcohol.

Best Indian food in Cambridge. Tikka Masala is rich and has a great tangy flavor. We love the veggie and paneer version. All the vegetable curries are superb. Lamb curries are great, too. Love the raita and the samosas. Delivery is fast, and staff in the restaurant are friendly.

This place didn't do it for me. I went to the Sunday buffet around 1:00 it was busy but only had to wait about 15 minutes. The service was great, water glasses were constantly refilled and we were given a couple complimentary items including Nann and a savory pastry like appetizer. The buffet was about 13.50 per person and they automatically include gratuity in your check no matter how small your party which doesn't bother me but may bother some but the service was great so I would have tipped them well anyway. The buffet had a good selection of sauces, vegetarian dishes, chicken and seafood dishes that were all pretty well labeled. My issue was the food just wasn't that good. It was a bit greasy for my tastes and didn't taste particularly authentic. It lacked the spice I've come to associate with Indian Cuisine. Unfortunately this is probably the worst Indian food I've had but that being said it wasn't really bad just different. My friend really liked it but agreed it was a bit "Americanized" and they were heavy handed on the cream in many of the dishes. It's very possible the food is better when ordered off the menu as opposed to a buffet which can often be hit or miss. The food wasn't bad enough that I wouldn't go back especially considering the service was really good but I probably would opt out of the buffet

Buffet is just average. It should have more options than they have. Not so great/special about it. Pretty usual like all other Indian restaurants.

I went there yesterday. The ambience was not good. Too much noise, could end up tearing my ear drums. I had to finally take out the food. Taste was ok for the daal, but the kebab was good. Although I do not give a rating like this usually, but this time I have to.

A small, homey, and cheap lunch buffet. While some things tasted off for me, there are plenty of other foods in the buffet that tasted good. Service was prompt and courteous, though ti wasn't much that we needed.

$7.95 AYCE lunch buffet weekdays $11.95 AYCE lunch buffet weekends - until 4 pm! I have not seen so many FOBs in one place since Jackson Heights, Queens. When this many FOBs are in the house, you know the joint is legit. And when there are also older New Englanders, you know it's rated well on Zagat. The venue is tight and packed. As soon as one enters, he is greeted not by a host, but by the glorious buffet items. Looking around, one sees that, as previously hinted, the patrons are a mixed bunch of stereotypes. The smells of various spices fills the air, and one's stomach roars with anticipation. Food options range from typical favorites like Chicken Tikka Masala to a fusion style Cajun Shrimp. I did my usual bit of sampling everything, and I was pleasantly rewarded with an explosion of flavor that has been generally lacking in my Boston Indian Buffet Adventures. Each item was unique in all respects: appearance, texture, flavor. Additionally, the quality of the food was outstanding. The chicken, for example, was tender and moist, which allowed for less energy expenditure for chewing and more for swallowing. The Chicken Tikka Masala was among the best I have had. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the cauliflower was, but I was careful not to allow vegetables to steal too much room away from their Kali Mirch Ke Tikki. Service was inconsistent. While staff was friendly, they did not always follow through. Perhaps it was because they were nearing the end of the buffet, but when we asked for more naan and tea, they said "yes", but never delivered. What is strange is that they "checked" for us several times and even provided status updates, which in hindsight were likely fictitious. One thing I did notice, was that while one of the cooks was preparing some kebabs (which looked mighty delicious, mind you), his uncovered head touched one of the hanging skewers. O_O. I didn't eat any more from that particular batch. Basically: excellent, flavorful food for a very good price. (^_^) Atmosphere (^_-) Service (^_^) Food (o_O) Cleanliness (^_^) Bang for buck Glad I came. Worth the trip from out of town, and easy to find parking on the weekends.

I go here all the time. Their buffet is wonderful! The atmosphere is relaxing and cozy. Their waitstaff is super friendly. Again, I've been here over 6 times within the past few months. Highly recommend: Chicken Tikka Garlic and Potato Soup Vegetable Samosas

Have been coming here for twelve years (yes, 1-2), and IMHO it's the best Indian food in the area. Flavorful, reasonably priced, great service/buffet. Can't get enough of this little gem.

We've had two great meals at Kebab Factory- one great lunch buffet (though the restaurant was so tight, it was impossible to get up once we sat down). Last night we had dinner from the menu- the waiter claimed that they were the only restaurant in the area who use a real Charcoal-based tandoor oven and I would believe it. My Indian friends and I ordered the Chef's mix of Kebabs (which comes in a mini-Tandoor oven), dal makhani and naan. The kebabs were amazing- so well spiced, nice and smoky and tender. Service was nice and attentive- though we were a bit surprised by the random onion ring and soup amuse-bouche at the beginning. Atmosphere is nice too- love the tables!

5 points for many reasons. I am very hard to please with, when it comes to food. I wanted to try this restaurant since we moved to Cambridge and finally we got chance. Trust me, I did good and repent for not trying before. 1. They gave complimentary soup as a starter - which was very good. 2. Chai and appetizer were good. I loved the chutneys they provided with the appetizer, specially the spicy onion one. 3. We ordered Dal Makhni, Kundan Kaliya and Tandoori Chicken Kebab and Sheermal for dinner. Everything were perfect - taste, color, spice level. Food were warm, hot(as i wanted) and very much authentic. Tandoori Chicken came with two sauces and salad - which was finger licking good. 4. Quantity was enough for both of us - we got a lot to go. 5. Staffs were very friendly and specially loved that at the end of the meal they gave hot towels to wipe the hands. 6. Worth paying money for warm quality and quantity food. Kebab place is the best dine out indian restaurant in Boston, I have been so far - I would love to be there again. I should tell that, I ate so much that I felt I become whale after my meal - so it explains how much I loved the place.

Strip mall. hmm. But wow, great service, super food. I am not an expert on Indian food, but I know what tastes good, what is nicely cooked meat, what is lovely pillowy naan bread, what is fresh and not greasy or gummy or anything else unpleasant. I truly enjoyed my dinner last night! THank you!

Dinner is delicious -- very good tandoori chicken, but you really should go here for the buffet, because it is the best Indian buffet I've ever had. Plus it's in the best intersection on the c-bridge / somerville line. You have tosci's, dali, wine and cheese cask...

This place is amazing and affordable! I generally opt for their lunch buffet. The weekday buffet is $7.95 which includes naan, and the weekend buffet is 10.95. Their buffet is always fresh and filled with food. This is the cleanest restaurant that I have ever been to and the ambiance is great. The staff is always friendly and if you are getting take-out they always offer you a free soup. One night I was waiting in the car for 20 minutes because David kept drinking the soup. He had two cups of soup!

i cant believe this place gets such high ratings. i guess not many yelpers are sensitive to MSG. yes, this place pours in tons and tons of MSG into their food. we went in for a lunch meal, came out decently full, and then felt completely bloated for the rest of the day until about 10pm. the back of my head started pulsing the way it does whenever i happen to consume MSG. i couldn't stop drinking water. it was really awful how we paid after we at here. i will not be going back ever. i'd recommend that you walk over to punjabi dhaba. it's really so much better.

I haven't tried the buffet yet. But I come from North India and have grown up eating mughlai food (kebabs, korma, nihari etc), and I can easily say that this is by far the best mughlai food place hands down that I have tried in North America (Canada included). The korma has just the right texture, the right amount of dry fruits and perfect spices. The dishes from tandoor are very well made, not under or overcooked, marinated with handmade and very well prepared masala's. The cream based gravy dishes with 'methi' are amazing. I can go on and on but I would rather want you eating the food than reading what I have to say.

Thumbs up! Our dinner was delicious. I can't remember specifically what we ordered that night but the menu was extensive and goes far beyond just kebabs. Service was a bit on the slow side. It did not annoy us as we were taking time, savoring our dishes. The kitchen has a glass window in front. It was fun watching the chefs working the tandoori grill and around the kitchen. Yummy!

The restaurant is not what it's name may infer...lunch buffet offers more than 10 selections of dishes for you to choose from: lamb curry, okra veggie stirfry, catfish curry, veggie samosas are some of my favorites to name a few. The place is clean, relatively trendy compared to some of the indian restaurants you find around the neighborhood (Newbury st excluded). Not the friendliest waitstaff, but the food makes up for it. Walking distance to hip and exciting Inman Square. Definitely worthy of return visits.

The Kebab Factory is a good choice for Indian food in Boston. We used to live in Chicago and while Indian food is better there, I think for Boston Kebab Factory is great. Though the place is small, they always give you a small cup of soup to start. The chicken tikka masala and the naan are always consistently good. We've done the brunch buffet, but options are limited given the size of the restaurant. I highly recommend it if you are in Boston and craving Indian food.

This was a pretty solid upscale Indian food restaurant. It was definitely better than most Indian food I have had in Cambridge so far and the presentation of the food was also very nice. I filled myself up on rice and nan, so much that I couldn't finish the rest of my food. Oh well, there will be another opportunity soon.

I love Love LOVE Indian food and was very happy with my experience at The Kebab Factory. Me and my friend ended up ordering the lamb tikka masala, beef kebab and the poori. The poori was a bit oily and not as puffy as served at other restaurants but was soooooo good with the masala sauce. There was a good amount of meat in the masala and the sauce wasn't too spicy even though we requested HOT. Oh and the cauliflower soup is def awesome as mentioned in other reviews. Service was excellent and the decor is very cozy. LOVE IT!

I'd agree with the consensus: best (nice) Indian restaurant in the Boston area, or at least on the Cambridge / Somerville side of things. The presentation is fantastic, with kebabs coming to the table in giant brass pots. Good menu. I had a lamb kebab, some okra, a pistachio milkshake (which I've only also found at India Castle), and garlic naan, all of which were excellent. The kebabs seemed to be a bit more extraordinary than their curries, which were still quite good. This'll be my new go-to place for Indian I think.

The food here is good but the setting is institutional. The space looks like a bank branch taken over by a restaurant. They did a nice job off-setting the industrial look with cool table tops but from the outside you may say "huh"? and choose to avoid.

  • B P.

Excellent Indian buffet...I go there quite often only over the weekends. They have a wide variety of dishes and they are all good...not some filler stuff that most Indian buffets serve. The food is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Its small and sometimes the service can be annoying, but at a buffet you probably only need service for water and such. Once the credit card machine wasn't working and they did not mention anything till the customers were paying and then they had to run out to a nearby ATM, the other time they seated us at a table then changed it as another group arrived. The other group left when they were shuttling us around and then they asked us to sit at ANOTHER table!!! All these annoying things can be avoided.

Absolutely the best Indian food joint around Boston .... very authentic, smells like home ... their kebabs, especially Tandoori Murg is mouthwatering (I am dripping over my keyboard now)....they used to give a small piece of prawn delicately spiced when you order food....but I am not sure they give that any more....their buffet has amazing variety, cheap price and the deserts are awesome. But the place is kinda small so there is always a long queue on weekends for the buffet. Also they sometimes might not let you in on weekends even if you see empty tables because they have it booked for a bank! But the stuff is usually friendly and the waitress is nice. A MUST GO!

Suprisingly great Indian Food. The chefs there are definitely well trained. Once we were served complimentary Cream of Cauliflower Soup, which rivaled some of the best soups in award winning/high end restaurants. Their food is full of flavor and well balanced and cooked well. Some of the meats get a little dried out in their curries, maybe it's premade and reheated? Their breads are great. Definitely a place worth trying even with all the Indian options around town. We held off trying it for a while due to the outside appearance, but the interior is quite nice. They did what they could with the space layout. They also serve some fine beers. Their Ras Malai was not bad, I prefer it with a hint of floral water and a little sweeter. Staff is pleasant and service is great. They also have great lunch buffet deals.

IMHO, the best Desi buffet here in the Boston area. The only thing I don't like is that it's not accessible by T, since I don't have a car. I think it was like 10 bucks but trust me everything on the buffet was tasty and fresh. They even had Shrimp masala on the buffet which I haven't seen on any Desi buffet menu. The Tandoori Chicken was absolutely awesome, lightly seasoned with black pepper. Kofta, Naan, Kheer, Chai.... everything was above average. I would go more often if it was a little more accessible. Highly recommended!

While it was not what I expected from the outside, the food was absolutely delicious! The chicken kebab we had was spiced perfectly and the fried cheese appetizer (I don't remember the name) was also great. They also start with a complimentary little shot of soup!

The best Indian in Boston. The Tikka Masala is thick and creamy, the Naans are full of flavour, and the tandoori-oven-baked kebab-meats are spectacular.

I had the pleasure of being introduced to the Kebab Factory the other night. Everything about the place was good - the service, the food, the atmosphere. It is not like there is a lack of Indian restaurants in the Cambridge/Somerville area but the Kebab Factory is a hidden gem.

This place is amazing. There are several different varieties of kebabs to choose from. The menu has no vegatarian kebebs though. But veggie lovers can try other options from their menu. It is small restaurant. There are parking options near the restaurant. While you are waiting to be seated, try your hand on indian piano (harmonium).

You know, I wish I could give this place five stars, because the food is really, really good. But I am consistently frustrated with the low lighting, crowded tables, and only average service. I went here with my parents, who are in their late 50s; we had a 9:00 dinner and they had to have ME read the menus aloud to them because it was too dark in there for them to see. Yikes. On the other hand, though, it IS the first good Indian place I've found in the Boston area. Granted, I haven't tried a lot, but the food here is SPECTACULAR. I'm a vegetarian, and I love the variety they offer for me. My mom was thrilled with the selection of kebab, which is rare at most average Indian restaurants. The sauces were rich and dancing with flavor - even the usual trio of taramind, onion chutney, and mint sauce were better than in almost any other place. The naan was perfect, full of that nice tandoori flavor and thick and airy. The mango lassi had the wonderful yogurty tartness I demand (so many places it just tastes like a smoothie) Yes indeed, I was pleased with the food. My only complaint is that the gulab jamun was a huge disappointment - thick and grainy and not at all delicate. (I am a gulab jamun fanatic, so after such a tasty dinner the first time I went here, I was bummed.) Still, I think it speaks volumes for the quality of the food that of the 22 people who were dining there the second time I went, me with my parents and a couple next to me were the only non-Indian people in the place. That's quite an endorsement.

The first time I went I thought the vindaloo tasted like Frank's Red Hot, but everything else was good and the free starter ("The chef made this for you two." He makes them for everyone, but the delivery was cute) was charming. We went to the buffet the other day and oh my goodness, it was almost too good to be true. Beautiful. Tears came to my eyes, so much food and such great quality. The 4 rather than 5 stars is due to the freakishly abysmal naan. I eat naan nonstop through indian meals, only stopping after I've soaked up the last of my kheer with it (try it), so it's gotta be good.

Our favorite takeout place. Can't go wrong with any of the dishes here. But I think, their vegtetable dishes are outstanding compared to the meat ones. Our favorites include: saag paneer - on fire, hyderabadi mirch aur baingan (eggplant) - on fire, chicken biryani, seafood moilee and the korma. The wait staff are very friendly and helpful. A bit difficult to eat in during the weekend because of the long queue (lunch buffet).

The place lives up to its name - went with two friends and we all got items on the kebab part of the menu (lamb, two kinds of chicken). The meat was succulent, tender, and well seasoned. The chicken almost melted in my mouth. I can't speak for the "indian-ness" of the place or their curries, but I would easily go again for the mouth watering meat items (and I barely like meat!). The only downside was the complimentary amuse bouche/small plate - they tried to serve a chicken nugget with an artistic flair of chilli ketchup (?!) - stick to the cream of mushroom soup option. The service started out poorly (the two waitresses were clearly overloaded, and the guy taking the names accidentally seated groups that had just come in over people who had been waiting for a while), but about halfway through things must have quieted down b/c the servers became very attentive and courteous.

When my better half's office was still in Harvard Sq, this was his favorite place to order in from. Now he's relocated to the lost world of Back Bay restaurants, he doesn't frequent this place too often, but we managed to make up for it twice this week. Saturday night delivery brought us delicious lamb patties and chicken tikka masala, with two soft rounds of warm naan bread, small salad and they even remember my side order of raita! A week later we ate on the premises with parents and a friend in tow and were wowed by the service and again by the food. Perhaps it was because there were 5 of us (or as I first suspected perhaps something bad had happened to our food), but within minutes of ordering we were each presented with a small chicken nugget-thing with mustard and ketchup swirled over the top. It didn't seem very Indian, but it was delicious and on the house, which was very nice. Everyone was very impressed with their meals, which arrived promptly with a basket of that warm naan - possibly some of the best I have had in Boston - soft, chewy, with a non-gross spongelike texture. To say it was the best part of the meal doesn't depreciate any of the actual meals - it was just really THAT good. Service was friendly and consistent all evening - especially appreciated our waitress noticing that my mum was finding the tikka a little hot and immediately coming over and topping up her water. The Kebab Factory works both on and off the premises - both approved by this yelper in one week.

i like that this place is a more modern take on traditional indian food. the cheese stuffed mushrooms were excellent. my only significant complaint is how heavy the food is. i often suffer from "food coma" but oh lord i had it bad from kebab factory!

The name of this place and the view from outside the restaurant bely the classy place that's inside. It's much nicer than you'd realize. The decor is modern and classy. The food is very good, I feel like it's a half step more refined than other Indian food places around.

Quite possible the BEST Indian buffet within a 20 mile radius of my 02116 zip code; and that says a lot given the multitudinous number of buffet selections in the area. My quest for the BEST may have ended with this experience at Kebab Factory. At $8.35; their lunch buffet is the personification of scrumptious, bountiful and delicious (the holy triplets when grading buffets). There was chicken tikka masala, goat curry, the most amazingly moist and juicy tandoori chicken, 3 very tasty (albeit thirsty) veggie curries all with discernible pieces of chunky veggies within, mini veggie samosas, and basmati rice. Everything was ultra fresh and "right-off-the stove" sizzling hot; so hot that I burned my fingers thru the thick plate. An impressive array of condiments included mint and onion chutneys, a savoury cheese kebab in yogurt, and a crispy salad that would make a gardener proud. Naan is served piping hot to your table, and they even have Indian chai tea in the meal. What more could you ask for? KF really puts the rest to shame. I will definitely become a "weekly" patron. Packed during lunch and for good reason too.

The first impression one gets of this place when standing across the street waiting to get into Dali (I'm sure I'm not the one who was introduced to the Kebab Factory in this way) is of a fast food ethnic restaurant with tacky signage. This conceit is proved false once you enter. This dimly-lit resto is housed in a tiny space with an exposed kitchen, the chef showcased inside a plexiglass chamber. The tabletops are comprised of a mosaic of a variety of beans and lentils, covered in glass--a nice touch. It's a very pleasing, stylish space. The servers have always been incredibly friendly, something I find rare for certain types of ethnic restaurants. I've always enjoyed the food: the meats are tender, the sauces savory, well-balanced and of good consistency. I haven't experimented much with their signature kebabs, but their traditional Indian dishes are quite satisfying. The prices are typical of an Indian restaurant--in other words, pretty cheap (10- 15 bucks a dish, mostly). A meal for 2 rare runs past $60 including a couple of drinks and tip. The thing I think I like about the Kebab Factory the most, something I haven't seen elsewhere in Boston, is their serving of an amuse bouche--an espresso cup of a lentil soup, usually--on the house. That, along with their other nice touches, help make this my favorite Indian restaurant in town.

consistently the best Indian in the area. i'll admit the name is horrible but the food is fantastic. i will not recommend any one thing cuz i really can't everything i've had in the 10+ times i've been have been really good. nice room and a small selection on Indian beers make this a perfect spot. and for dessert, Oleana is right down the street.

Yes, one of the best in the Boston area. I've been to them all, I'm sure. Best time to go is weekend buffet brunch, they open at noon and by 12:30 it's packed. But the buffet changes week to week with some really good stuff. Last week I had some fried cauliflower thing that tasted almost like really good chinese chicken. I also find that they burn their papadum often, unless this is some regional variant I am missing out on. My favorites are the mahi kebabs and the complimentary soups!
