I was pleasantly surprised! My family and I have been in and out of this place ever since it was the Shirley Club. At it's inception, The Phoenix Bar and Grille was nothing special. As a bar, this has always been and still is been fairly comfortable and roomy. But it simply didn't deliver on the Grille until more recently. The 1/3 lb burger was one of the best I have had in some time. The french fries as well, were REALLY good. The service was on spot as well. The lone bartender, who was also the lone waitress, didn't miss a step. Granted, it was an afternoon, it was still quite noteworthy. I would suggest this place over most central Massachusetts B&G's.

Bar rating only...(hey, do you see a pattern here?) This place is lovely, it's big, warm, with a dark lighting that let's you "get away" from the world, and it's charmingly orderly, clean - an unexpected find, a real neighborhood bar that's honest. Now, let me make sure I set expectation, it looks like they make decent food, standard bar fare, so it's not in the Michelin guide, but looks to be real food, not pre-processed, but, I was only looking. I did like the general orderliness and cleanliness of the place, and the waitstaff was adorably attentive. I'll go back

My absolute must stop and eat when visiting anywhere near the town of Shirley, the Phoenix Bar and Grill is a classic local beer joint with a restaurant on the side. Home cooked meals at always available like meatloaf with gravy and mashed potatoes! I am always in for the chowder and soft tacos, which are also offered once a week as all you can eat!

Good service and friendly staff. Good quality food but nothing special. The typical American style food.

Big, dark, variety on menu. Free pool, darts, and jukebox. Staff is very accommodating, and hospitable especially Sue, Penny, Liz, and Mel. Was my lunch destination spot for three years. Used up a few frequent lunch cards here. Pub fare, but of good quality. Daily specials, great soups, chowder, and chili, and an all-you-can eat taco Tuesday.

Been coming here for years. Great place. But today I will be reviewing 'Julia's Shirley Temple'.. Possibly the greatest Shirley Temple I have had in my life. Perfect ratio of sprite to grenadine with 2 cherries. Doesn't get much better. Next time you visit, ask for Julia's Shirley Temple. You will not be disappointed! 5 Swords

I like this place. The food is very good, the staff is very friendly, and it's got a good balanced crowd. The food variety is there as is the quality. Bacon wrapped scallops, burgers, Calamari, baked haddock, boneless buffalo wings, meatloaf...like I said, big variety and quality. The bar is great as well. Good variety of choices on tap and in bottle, even a good scotch/vodka selection for a local bar. Add to that the smoking hot bartender with a great personality, pool tables and dj's in the back (on certain nights) and it's quite the place you don't expect in such a small under-developed town. In a good way! The crowd is varied & friendly but definitely dominated by it's "regulars" which is ok as they are friendly vs. some other places I've gone into. Add to that never having to wait either on the dining side or bar side for a table or seat and I plan to become a regular here for sure. The only negative is that it could use a little updating but It's not bad so I don't put a lot of weight on that one thing.

Went there on a Tuesday night. Dining room was dead. Service was extremely slow... Food was great though... Kids had all you can eat taco's and I got a sandwich. Although, service was so slow they could only get two plates... Must be how they keep people from eating all they want...

The Phoenix always delivers on its promise...quality, inexpensive bar food that leaves you both wanting more of what you ordered and also wishing you ordered what the booth next to you did! Good service with a smile and fun, local atmosphere that makes you feel like you are back in your hometown, comfy pub.

This place is like going to a High School reunion. Everyone you know here you've seen sometime in your life and they are happy to see you. Truthfully the drink/beer selection could have some variety. Aside from the two pool tables and dart areas they have a pinball machine and other cool things. It has a rather warm feeling to it and doesn't have that "dive" feel to it at all. I wish I could give a review for the food but usually when I'm here the kitchen is closed.

Been here three times in the past month or so and food has been excellent, kind of a nice surprise. Burger was excellent, fried clam plate was really really good and the fish and chips was cooked perfectly. Great portion for the Haddock, fries were hot and crispy. The only complaint was the fried chicken was not what was advertised. My friend was really looking forward to some good fried chicken and ended up with boneless fried chicken. Not good. That needs to be fixed. This was odd as the rest of the fried food was 1st rate. (Note: the chicken was very good but not what was expected) Overall each visit was better than the last. Great spot for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon.

Drinks are good and sized well. Appetizers were a bit greasy for my taste. Never ate dinner there but worth a late night stop.

I can't say enough about this place. The food is great, the services is excellent, and kids eat free! I've been several times for both lunch and dinner and always leave full. If you have kids they will want to sit by a window to see the commuter rail going by right across the street. My last time there I had the chicken picatta and after I slopped up the last of the chicken and mushrooms I had enough of the sauce leftover that I got a soup container and brought the sauce home to add to my own pasta. There is a great local bar crowd and the bartenders are great. If you're planning a visit, keep in mind they are closed on Mondays and the kitchen closes daily from 2 pm to 4 pm. I would have given more stars but five is all that I was allowed.

I have been eating at The Phoenix since they opened . I too as another reviewer mentioned have lived in Shirley my entire life and eat out frequently. The food there is very good and always consistant which is very important. There are homemade soups , sauces and real potatos. There food is far from chain food and is no Buffalo Wild wings Thankfully ! The waitstaff is extreamly friendly and accomodating if there is a problem as most of them have been there for several years. Try out the place for yourself.. I assure you it is worth it . In addition to eating there they have catered my Wedding, My sons High School and College graduations and many more events and I have never heard one complaint.

I don't understand what Ronald and Beth are talking about???? I'm guessing they were there on a busy night and just were unlucky because I have nothing but great times at this place. It has great food, and as Ronald suggested it isn't the processed bar food you find in the area (try the steak tips and tell me they aren't good). Furthermore, it is a great atmosphere. Go meet some friends and enjoy a drink while you play pool or darts. It isn't too loud and the staff are as friendly as they get. Honestly, if you are in the area you have to swing by. They even have live music on the weekends that is actually really good. 5 stars for me....no doubt.

The fish and chips are amazing! I'm from Cape Cod and for $10.99, I can't finish it and would give it 5 stars. My kids love the food, too! Not everything is amazing, but hopefully solid reviews can lead you in the right direction. (They get their seafood from s & s fresh! )

good, neighborhood bar, just the right amount of dive and good spirited clientele - with the hint of rough edges. I like it.
