Went in for lunch and sat at the bar. Asked for menus. Was told there was only dinner menu. Specials on board were only for appetizers. High prices for lunch. They used to have great luncheon specials on fish and chips, etc. service was terrible and after 20 min of waiting to order our lunch, we left.

The average age of clientele is retired. I've always had a grumpy old lady for a server. Substituting something is basically a crime. Great views though

Just had chicken broccoli and penne. So good!!! Very rich...big portion-took 1/2 home. Keno at the bar. Staff is wonderful!

My fiance and I had a great meal here last night We shared a caprese salad as an appetizer, that was great. Then I ordered the Veal Piccatta and he had the steak tip special. The food was great but the portions were much bigger than expected. The bartender insisted we get 2 meals and not 1. The way the size was explained it sounded smaller. We definitely had a lot of left overs. Despite too much food. the dishes were full of flavor and we will be back!

It was my first time in Plymouth. Stopped here for lunch. I got the lobster roll with a baked potato... It was $16.95 and not that grand. I think it could be equivalent to McDonald's lobster roll... It had no real flavor... And wasn't very filling. My waitress was nice but disappeared after we had our food and we were ready to keep exploring Plymouth. I ate on the deck and had a great view of the harbor.

Food was ok. Everyone in the place was 65+. Service was slow. View was nice. Not a great kids menu.

On July 6, our family had a reunion at your restaurant. The service was ok but the food was absolutely TERRIBLE!!'. What was to be lobster in a salad was left over scraps!!! My husband called the restaurant to let them how dissatisfied we were about the meal & he was told some one would get Back to him and NO one called. Just a tourist trap

This place must ride on a reputation of a bygone era, using waterfront view as their only draw. 1980's decor, dark and dismal with lots of brass banisters and mirrors. Chairs were covered with dust and stained. You'll get a whiff of stale air when you walk out of the elevator. Waitress was attentive and personable but bus boy had on slouchy, dirty pants. Turned my stomach to think of eating anything from the kitchen if the dining room was this filthy. Geriatric crowd with food that's diner quality at best. I paid $16 for a tiny "lobster roll" sandwich and was disappointed that they used imitation lobster on toasted Wonder bread. What a rip off. We came on a Monday for lunch, so there weren't too many other places open. Would not return.

Went to Isaacs for Easter this year. The restaurant had specified dining times. Our seating was for 3:30 pm. We arrived at 3:15 and finally sat down at 4 pm. Where we promptly waited another 20 minutes for a waitress, who had to be located . Not sure how long we would have waited if we did not ask for a server Come to find out the restaurant accommodated a party without a reservation before us. Thus our party suffered with a late seating and poor service from a overbooked waitress. I do not blame the waitress but the management. Will not be back. Why require reservations on special occasions when you can receive a table without one. I only received and explanation after-complaining Very unhappy patron

5 Star restaurant. Beautiful views from almost every seat in the restaurant. Wonderful service from the staff and most important the food is amazing. Had the Sunday Special - prime rib, broccoli stuffed baked potatoes and two stuffed shrimp. Prime cooked to perfection. Prices excellent for what you get. Partner had broiled swordfish - the thickest piece I have ever seen offered. Would gladly return over and over. Recommend gladly. Nancy B

A key part of Water Street. Great views, great atmosphere. Best restaurant in Downtown.

Service was wonderful. And so was the food...not sure why the rating here is so low. We were a party of 6 and had an amazing 3 hour lunch.

We had a party of 7 for my wife's birthday. First visit for us, her aunt had been coming for years. Lobster Fantasy was ordered by 3 and all of us hit the specials. None of us were disappointed. The Manhattan's were perfect, chowder and deserts were great as well. It may be old, but so is Plymouth... View is unbeatable and the price was reasonable.

Definitely NOT the Isaac's they used to be. Myself, husband, mother and Nana went to Isaac's for Easter lunch this year and we were all horrified with the experience. Appetizers- We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and my husband and Nana both got the clam chowder, everything was room temp, including the clam chowder which at any other restaurant comes out piping hot. We figured they might not be banging out the apps as fast since it was Easter and they were busy so we let it slide. Main course- We all ordered the prime rib, myself medium, my mother and husband medium rare, and my Nana medium-well. My Nana's was definitely not medium-well, hers was rarer than mine. She could barely cut it, it was so tough. And once again, EVERYTHING WAS COLD. Like it had been sitting in the kitchen for at least 20 minutes. The mashed potatoes were cold, lumpy and tasteless. Drowning them in butter didn't even help. My Nana sent her prime rib back and got the ham dinner instead, which was the only thing that came out hot. Our waitress was very nice about the whole situation. My Nana was so disappointed, she was really looking forward to having a nice lunch with us, and when we were leaving she overheard another couple in the elevator saying that their whole meal was cold and tasteless too. She called the manager when we got home and told him about the experience, he was nice enough to say he would send her a gift certificate to make it up to her. We spent $150 on lunch and they sent her a $30 gift certificate!!!!! Are you even fucking kidding me?! So unprofessional and rude. We will never go back.

The decor was dated but the view is amazing. I had the swordfish scampi special and it was awesome. They really should add it to the menu. My girlfriend had the shrimp scampi and everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Prices were very reasonable. With a few updates to the decor, Isaac's will be second to none!

We were seated immediately and had to flag down the hostess for a waitress after waiting for quite a while. The hostess was all apologies. We ordered dinner and was told that the side vegetable was $2.00 extra because there were vegetables on the entree that was ordered which has never happened before when I ordered the same entree. I guess this is a new policy. We were still happy with our food. We have never had a problem before this evening. So we were very disappointed that this happened. We will be back because we really enjoy coming here and are always satisfied with the food.

Needs an update to bring it up to par with the other places on the waterfront. My lobster roll was tiny compared to others I have had nearby and it appeared to be in a hot dog bun. Tasted fine but the place looks tired and could use a new look. Probably the best view in Plymouth though!

The table cloth was coved in spaghetti sauce and had not been changed in a while. Floor and chairs were dirty. There was dust and food crumbs on the ledge near where we were sitting. Many of the wait staff had on dirty clothes. They were spraying winded while people were eating to clean off the tables. Not only is that chemicals but it leaves a smell in the air. One waitress left a tray of food near our table and walked off. During this time people walked by. It was several minutes before this food was given to the people who ordered it. One food arrived and was mediocre. My potatoes were cold and my boyfriends potato wrapped in foil looked liked it had been under a heat lamp. My fish was not exactly cooked the way I thought it was going to be. Definitely not going here again!

This place is really great. It's an older crowd but the food is consistently delicious and the service is awesome. Playing keno while waiting for a surf and turf is my ideal way of spending time with my husband. This place deserves more stars than it has. It's a great location with an unbelievable view, a huge bar with the most comfortable bar seats, delicious food, generous drinks that aren't badly priced and a great staff. Try Isaacs, you will love it!

  • Kaitlin M.

I'm not kidding this place was the best meal since I've been in New England. I got the seafood medley dish but not with the ritz filling, just breadcrumbs. Thanks to the waitress for the recommendation for something lighter. Shrimp schram (what the heck is this fish?!) and scallops all cooked perfectly, green beans were bland but at least not covered in butter, and then a side of delicious linguini with diced garlic on top and white wine and butter sauce. Amaze. I'd come back anytime. Our party of 8 all enjoyed. Birthday ice cream for all too!!

If you are in the 60 plus age group you would like this atmosphere. I thought I saw Dean Martin singing! The service was slow. The food was passable at best. The string beans that I was told were fresh, were clearly from a can, the rice was bland and the filet was un-seasoned. The ceaser salad had bottled dressing. Baked potatoe was dried out. And what is with all the mirrors? Just a funky mess on the water. Old farts, old staff, old food. There surely are better choices.

Isaacs always has the best seafood and the best atmosphere. The clam chowder is unmatched and the scallops are tender and cooked to perfection. Portions are generous and staff is friendly. Go here tonight!

Went to "Diamond Jim Brady Night" which is every Monday and Tuesday night food was great $12.95 for full dinner salad, entree, dessert (strawberry cheesecake)and coffee. Drinks are $3.50 and oysters on the half shell are 50cents each. New waiter was very good, but he didn't put my leftovers in a doggie bag so they cooked another steak and sent us home with another full meal! A class act! Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!!!

My wife and I had our wedding here two years ago. We were looking for a place on the South Shore with a view of the waterfront, and a private space that could accommodate a group of 70ish for a (secular) ceremony and reception. Isaac's was all that we could have asked for, and more. The space was lovely, the food was excellent, and the staff were amazing -- not to mention, the cost of it all was extremely reasonable. We couldn't have imagined a better experience. Last year, to celebrate our first anniversary, we decided to return to Isaac's for dinner, and Denise, our point person in the weeks leading up to the wedding, immediately recognized us and ushered us to a prime table, even though they were quite busy on a Saturday night. The food and ambience, needless to say, were as good as ever. Today, my wife and I opened our mail to find a gift certificate from Isaac's, to celebrate our second anniversary. As it turns out, we had been planning to go back once again, but of course they didn't know that. To Isaac's, their management, and their staff: thank you for remembering us, for your generosity, and for all the wonderful memories. We'll see you in a couple of weeks!

My family of 33 people went here for Thanksgiving. I felt they were great from beginning to end.... They didn't miss a beat ,they were really great. I thought everything was handled excellent . Because it was Thanksgiving it was a plated function .. not a buffet menu. Plates were stuffed to the max and they served us more than enough food. Great job!

Pretty decent. Have been here twice. once with my family, the next with a big dinner party that took 2 tables. They were very accommodating to our large party, but the server seemed pretty confused when the bill came. And forgot my drink. But the food was good & the atmosphere is great.

I wanted seafood for my birthday and drifted toward the usual places around Plymouth warf. My girlfriend wanted to treat me to something nicer and suggested Isaac's. I have lived in the area for most of my life and have never dined here before. She is not from the area, but had dined there several times before with friends, The decor was sightly dated but much nicer than the typical waterfront place. The view was great. The specials sounded so good we had a hard time choosing. She had a Salmon dish from the specials that was wonderfully presented and delicious, I tried the Lobster Fanasty and had the best Birthday Diner ever. This comes from a serious lobster lover native to these shores. I was very surprised and even found the prices where moderate for classy dining (Treated to this meal by my lovely lady and gald she didn't need to break the bank for something nice.). Service was reasonble and our watress was pleasant.

Get the middle booth and stare out in the Atlantic, dreaming of pilgrim days of yore. This place is certainly all about the ocean views and since you're at the top of the building, you are higher up than some of the other restaurants on the same block. Our waitress was attentive and sassy (my favorite kind of waitress). I ordered the Caesar salad with shrimp and to my surprise it was fried shrimp ... what?! I think this is a place that will hit that sweet spot if you're into any kind of fried seafood as the waitress said that was their best dishes. They also oddly have a really great side of steamed green beans. The food was just OK but the view and the service was excellent.

I've eaten here 5 or 6 times over the last 20 years. Although the decor has not changed I have never had a bad experience. We had resevations for 8 people Saturday night @ 6:30 and were seated at 7:00 as expected. The bartenders were pleasant and quick. Our waitress was fast and friendly, the dinners all came out hot at the same time. I didn't hear a single complaint from anyone. The prices are very reasonable, my Surf & Turf was very good for $17.95. I'll be back for sure.

I have been at Isaac restaurant four times and last one was on 08/02/14. I always felt it's a mediocre restaurant and in general they serve a good food, however today it was a disaster. I ordered the Lobster salad special for $19.95, and first look great and good presentation, and then I taste the lobster and its look like a mix of Crab meat and lobster, or an imitation. My wife said please don't be upset you can call the management later. I just don't believe this, did they made a mistake? or they think they can get away with it. Now they lost a good customer and my view has changed and beyond believes. I do know family and friends who goes to Isaac and hope they will not serve this again.

PROS: * The view! large windows overlooking the water ... * The lightly breaded and broiled scallops were delicious CONS: * It took about 15 mins before the waitress acknowledged our presence (after being seated by the hostess) ... service was nice, but super slow * I received 2 soup spoons that were absolutely filthy -- one of them was caked with something black ... and my dinner spoon was also not washed well * Packaged butter and sour cream * My iced tea was not refilled once * Clam chowder was decent, but I think they added flour as a thickener -- and too much of it! * Overpriced for quality

The food was okay. The Bernaise sauce for the swordfish did not have much flavor. The prime rib did not have much flavor. The waitress was very good.

The views are obviously tremendous at this place, but that's about it. The food quality does not match the price. The service really is what really brings this place down. It's horrific! And to top the experience off, our waitress (I don't remember her name) changed the amount on our bill. Perhaps they can pull a fast one on the older clientele that frequent this place. I wouldn't step foot into this establishment again. If you do, make sure you write down the total/tip amount and verify your credit card statements thereafter!

Went here for a family dinner after a event, there was 10 of us. I hadn't been here in a few years and I don't think they have actually changed anything since 1980. The menu is the same, carpet is faded, gum stuck under tables, a mirror ceiling at the bar and more brass than a high school marching band. I had a akward feeling when the clam chouder came out luke warm....I had ordered the salmon and shirp for entree. It was served with everyone elses food coming out at once. The salmon was half cooked, cold to touch on the inside. I looked around at the table and said sorry guys I can't eat this and the watiress apologized (with the fresh breath of a couple of marlboros outside on the porch) and then the single most interesting moment in my dinning experience occured. The waitress retuns with my salmon....with new asparagus ontop of it. I move the asparagus to my GASP...it was the same piece of fish that I had cut open....same piece. I was dumb founded. Food safety concern to the extreme of cross contamination, my handled food cooked with others food, really did this just happen? McDonalds even knows better! I would beware and know that there are def. great places on the waterfront of Plymouth.

Whether you are looking to sit at the bar for cocktails or apps, or sit down at a table for a full meal this is place to go in Plymouth! Professional bartenders and wait staff will take good care of you and your party. Outstanding variety of dishes, all well prepared with ample portions This is fine dining at casual prices overlooking, Plymouth Harbor.

This is a great place overlooking the water. It's a beautiful location and good fresh seafood. The wine list was extensive which was a plus. The service was slow but it was packed and we weren't in a rush so it was fine. Definitely a place to go for drinks overlooking the water but dinner on a weeknight might be better service Wise

We'll go right to the most important thing. The food at Isaac's is pretty good. Fresh seafood, prepared well that doesn't overpower or get lost with the accompanying dishes. Their house special - sauteed shrimp - is nicely done and served on a bed of linguine. Appetizers were enticing, desserts were intriguing. It's almost a shame, then, not to rate Isaac's higher. But there were simply too many other issues that keep the place from being off-the-charts good. We arrived for an early evening dinner on a Saturday and were told to expect about a 15-to-20-minute wait. When we were seated, we walked past several empty tables, leading me to wonder why there was any kind of wait. Our server was nice enough, but just not very good. She managed to come up short on a drink order of a glass of wine and a beer. After initially forgetting about the beer, she delivered the bottle, but no glass - fine if watching a game with the guys, but I'd prefer to drink from a glass at the dinner table. There were some wonderful specials that sounded particularly enticing. I know this, not because our server told me about them, but the server waiting on the adjoining table described them in detail to her party - well after our order had been placed. Appetizers, consisting of a plate of stuffed mushrooms and a cup of clam chowder, were delicious, though they took close to 20 minutes to arrive. Our server did acknowledge and apologize for the delay, but that didn't prevent her from delivering the entrees two minutes later, before we could put a dent into the apps. The service aside, the atmosphere is severely dated. The interior looks like it hasn't been updated since the early 1980s, which is a shame, because the location on the Plymouth waterfront is magnificent. All in all, the food is good enough so we do go back occasionally. And even though our own server wasn't terrific, at least two other servers we noted seemed to be doing excellent jobs. A little more consistency there, and with an overhaul of the interior, and you'd have a real gem.

Completely horrendous in every way! Except the view. But that only makes it more sad given that the restaurant with the finest view of the Plymouth waterfront is so horrible. Somebody needs to buy this place and put a fine restaurant there!! As a local, I always feel bad when I see the huge crowds of tourists packing into Isaac's. It's easy to get lured in as it's one of the biggest restaurants downtown. The food is abysmal...cold, soggy and bland. The place literally smells as though the building has a septic problem. The decor is a 1980s horror show. The prices are outrageous given the greasy mush you are served, and the service is SLOW! We were so frustrated once after waiting hours for our food that we asked to see the manager who treated us very poorly and did nothing. The owners should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

When Isaacs opened in the 1980s the establishment was one of the "nicest" restaurants on the waterfront. I still have good memories of taking my mom and grandmother here for various visits. The meals seemed simply prepared, but presented well and offered at reasonable. Have things change? First, concerning the surroundings. The second floor restaurant still offers through the large unobstructed tinted glass windows a fantastic view of Plymouth Harbor (probably the best indoor view) . Concerns about the the decor being dated may be justified but overstated. The restaurant still still uses cloth table clothes under glass and , except for the bar there are not TVs hanging in every corner (those two factors alone date the place). Tinted mirrors do cover the walls around the bar area but reflect the panoramic window views. Brass railings are used both decorative and as a safety feature as Isaas is two levels. The booths and chairs are a classic black. The establishment has made minor changes to the decor since the 1980s. Gone is the mauve and burgundy color scheme. Table clothes are now white. Wood paneling and hanging plants have replaced the mirrored walls between each of the restaurant's windows. The carpet was also replaced with the a plaid pattern and the bar's counter top may be newer too. These changes have made the restaurant in my opinion less colorful and more darker in the day time. Still there is a difference between being dated and being worn. Isaacs has always been clean when Iv'e dined there. Second, the menu has not changed drastically through the years but neither has the prices, Typical American fare and seafood presented well on the plate for a reasonable price.. Some reviewers have complained about service and food quality which seems vary (I for one like the green beans but dislike the squash). I keep it simple and usually go for lunch. Service has been good most time in the past decades. If you're still not sure about the food the place is most worth a visit for an appetizer or dessert Dessert is not spectacular but good for price)at the bar, for the view alone.

Pros: Great view Cons: Food overcooked I had the Priscilla Scampi, which was good, but my mother order the steak medium well. It was cooked more than well done. Also, the rolls were generic white rolls that seemed like they were store bought. Would not go again.

Had a great view of the ocean and all the boats. Our server was great; super friendly and took great care of us. The meal was great and the portions were super sized! I recommend this place!!!

I'm never disappointed here. I go once a year and have the same thing, clam chowder the lobster fantasy. The lobster has never been overcooked and is stuffed with shrimp and sea scallops. The view is great but the service can be spotty. On our last visit, the server did not win any personality awards but eventually warmed up. I go with the same people every year and I had never heard any of them complain. The bar service was excellent before dinner.

On Saturday night, we arranged to meet members of our family for dinner and made a 6PM reservation. We were seated at 7PM even though all nine of us arrived on time. For the entire hour we waited, the hostess told my in-laws that is would be "a few more mintes" or "another 15 minutes". Additionally, we were seated at two round tables pushed together with a square table on the end, leaving some of our party to chose between sitting at a triangular crack between two circular tables or squeezing onto a very small eating surface. Our actual dinners didn't show up until 7:45PM, and although the waitress came by a few times to tell us the kitchen was backed up and bring us more rolls, being served nearly two hours after a confirmed reservation is ridiculous. The swordfish I ordered (a special!) was cooked to a dry, hard slab, and tasted like the previously frozen swordfish I sometimes buy at Trader Joe's. My husband's salmon was served with a salty, starchy white sauce, which was congealed and cold by the time his dinner arrived. One member of our family had METAL in his fish, and another left most of her fish (scrod), and told us later that it was so overcooked it was difficult to cut with a knife. We were served frozen (not fresh) butternut squash which was completely smooth and nearly flavorless. My baked potato was overcooked and left a smear of grime on my plate. Of the nine dinners ordered, only the two pasta dishes - fettucini neptune and a vegetable and pasta dish from the specials menu were good. The fettucini neptune had a rich creamy sauce and plenty of seafood. As previously mentioned, the views are very good. But the rest of the meal and the service we received were so eggregiously bad that I can't give more than one star.

Everyone can have a bad day and most of the negative reviewers seemed to have visited on a bad day. If you enjoy good fresh seafood without a lot of weird celebrity chef ingredients then this is your place. The lobster fantasy is a usual part of their specials menu and it is superb. Just imagine a 1-1/2 lb steamed lobster turned upside down and topped with shrimp, scallops and clams, all over a bed of linguine. The wonderful view is a great feature and I have always had great service. The decor does need updating.

I have eatten here several times before. I find that the service is just the worst. the ladies are short and grumpy. They stand around and talk and do their makeup in the mirrors. When we sat at the bar the bartenders were occupied serving their friends then their other customers....This one lady diane at the bar completely ignored us and gave us the worst dinning experiance. not intersted in us at all...needless to say we wont be back and we certainly will never sit at the bar!!!!!

A friend brought me here for lunch once. Both the clientele and decor are more on the "senior" side but the location and views are really what makes this place. Because of the clientele and decor, I really did not expect much form the food but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was decent. It would not be on my list of top restaurants in Plymouth but it makes for a good spot for lunch if I want to be inside and get a good view of the waterfront.

I have long been a fan of Isaacs in Plymouth, and continue to be. While the food quality, service and atmosphere seems to have slipped slightly, I still enjoy going there with family, friends and romantic interests. My favorite dish there is a rather simple one, oddly. In fact, it's not even considered a main course, but an appetizer: the chicken tenderloins (garlic style) on a tasty bed of rice. How delicious! I want some right now, actually. Damn this review. ;-) Their seafood is good, from what I've sampled (I tend to be a scallop or lobster person). Of course, being seated perfectly in Plymouth Harbor, one would expect no less than very good seafood. I'm not so much a fan of their filet mignon, but their NY strip is excellent. Available wine selections are more than adequate, and the views are the best among all restaurant views in the immediate area. The atmosphere is classy and sophisticated, though this establishment could use a little upgrading here and there. Carpets need to be changed out and the chairs, while looking good from a distance, could use updating. Silverware, too. The bar area could use some pizazz. Isaacs generally exudes an opulence I find very charming, however, and their winter decor often seems the richest. Service is hit or miss: sometimes you happen to get a waitress (or waiter) that is very friendly and warm--other times, not so much. It's a bit of a gamble, and this is certainly an area the management should focus on. Nonetheless, Isaacs is a great place to go in the evening for a classy dining experience. Highly recommended.

Went for lunch with my mother. Views are great and so was the waitress. They get a one star. Food deserves a zero. Ordered baked lobster special. Lobsters arrived less than 10 minutes. Wow??? Impossible to cook a lobster that fast. Claws were undercooked...body of lobster on small plate..and cool. Make your own conclusions about that!!! Baked potato hot...butternut squash cold. We left. Why waste our money at this place because obviously they don't care about serving good food.

While staying the long weekend at a beach house in Plymouth we decided to give Issac's a try. I've been to many other restaurants in that area but for some unexplainable reason, never Issac's. It's Saturday night, we walk in and the restaurant is packed, we decided to sit at the bar to watch the Bruins game while we ate. The crowd is a little older, similar to the decor but hey I personally think it gives the place some character! I loved it, the bar seats were comfy and the service was impeccable. Diane was just one of the lovely bartenders that served us and let me tell you, she was on top of it! She made me the best chocolate martini I've ever tasted! We ate all seafood: clams casino, baked stuffed haddock, and lobster fantasy. All dishes were phenomenal and the price was right, cheap for seafood in Plymouth that's for sure. The surrounding customers were very friendly and if you felt like you had a good luck streak coming they had keno ready to be played at all times. Days after our dining experience at Issac's my boyfriend and I are still raving about it. Not sure when but I can promise we will be back!

Ive always been a fan of Isaacs. I guess I should start with the critical portion of this review. Its only because I hope someone reads this and maybe decides to change things. First of all, the decor in this place needs to be updated 10 years ago. Most of the menu items are classics that they do really well (i.e. seafood and prime rib) but some new items would be welcome. The specials are always great, but you never see a consistent specials menu. On the other hand my last visit during labor day weekend was great. My girlfriend and I sat on the deck and enjoyed cocktails. Our server didnt seem to mind that we weren't eating, and she was great. (Thanks Heather) An updated drink menu would also be exciting. Other than that, I will always recommend Isaacs to anyone to try at least once....to each their own.

Lets begin.. Buffalo chicken tenders, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed clams, house salad and the seafood medley, bam! The buffalo chicken tenders were mild at best, but were very moist and sitting on a bed of rice that was saturated with buffalo sauce... I think I ate more rice than chicken but I enjoyed it. The stuffed mushrooms were covered with a heavy cream sauce that wasn't necessary which made the mushrooms a bit too soft but tastefully edible if you're into hearty sauces that mask whatever is underneath. The stuffed clams were nice, basic chopped quahogs and herbs and breadcrumbs topped with a small piece of bacon, not bad. For the main dish I had the seafood medley which I had high hopes for but it failed to impress. What did impress me however were the nice chunks of white fish (not sure what kind), scallops and shrimp. It definitely was a generous portion of fish but what ruined it for me was the "mound" of breadcrumbs that covered the entire dish. Unfortunately the dish was rather bland. The name of the dish is seafood medley, not seafood pot pie... I guess I should have read the menu more closely. It came with a baked potato, meh.. very dry. I must say the view and ambiance is quite nice, and that's how Isaac's snuck in an additional star. Its probably has one of the nicest waterfront views in Plymouth.

We're frequent customers at Isaacs, and frankly surprised at the negative reviews. The food has been consistently good, and the servers have been friendly and efficient. Admittedly, we're not considered to be part of the younger crowd, I drive a Buick, but we haven't lost our ability to judge a good restaurant. Give it a try.

First impression coming up the dingy stairs was not good. Our waitress was really great and the view was awesome. As far as the food is concerned.....The went south as soon as our calamari arrived. The batter was so thick and crispy that it masked the teeny tiny pieces of Calamari rings. I would say that my friends meals looked rather bland and from the sounds of things they tasted that way too. My fettuccine Alfredo was indeed more like a soup dish. The scallops were a bit sandy, you would think the soupy sauce would wash them clean. All in all I would not be making the trip up those dingy steps again.

Isaacs seems like they are rebounding. The restaurant gets a bad rap since locals think it has been around since 1620. Décor is still what you remember 15 years ago but the view is still tremendous. While the menu wouldn't be considered exciting it is full of classic dishes that are, to steal from another poster "simply prepared" but the food is good and at the end of the day is that what matters at a restaurant? They seem to be focusing on quality once again, where for a time that slipped. The addition of fresh pasta to their dishes is a big improvement, Fettucini Neptune is one of may fav's I do ask them to make the sauce on the thin side and it is comes out great. My wife's new go to is Surf & Turf, the steak is done to perfection and if you have not tried their garlic & spice chicken tenderloin appetizer you are missing a real treat. If you've had a bad experience in the past, give them a try again, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to see it's a lot like you remembered it to be.

Terrible service. Our server never refilled our drinks, messed up our order, never came to check on us, and never brought us our bill (I went to find her after waiting for 20 minutes, asking one server to get her and waiving at our server to come over though she didn't). The food was also bland and disappointing. The lobster tasted like imitation. The fries were soggy. Though, we enjoyed the Calamari. Stay away. Anything is better than here.

Omg what a dissapointment... The view is amazing but that's it! People run and never look back! this place is so outdated that the hostesses had to drink to get over the day, yes, we were sitting by the front and we could see them slamming them down, thanks to that we had entertainment, the food was tasteless and the menu felt like it was 1989, the decor is like a titi bar from the same decade too much glass and brass, if you want to bring your grandma to this place you will score big... Oh God I'm so happy i don't have to go back... good luck!

It begins by walking into a foyer that smells like rotten fecal matter and fish. Why? I would love to know. (However, on the way back DOWN the stairs, it morphed into FRIED fecal fish.) What kills me about this - is that I invited someone here to meet for lunch - and they noticed it too - and mentioned it. I was HORRIFIED. This is my hometown, and I thought I was "bringing them to a nice restaurant." I headed upstairs, and was greeted by fighting hostesses and waitstaff bickering over tables. When I told them I was waiting for another to join my party, I was told to go sit and wait outside in the lobby, as they weren't going to "waste a table" on me as it was "about to get very busy." The hostess was not pleasant, and shuffled me out immediately. (The restaurant was visibly empty, and I was prepared to get food right away.) I should have left, but my guests were nearly there. Our water tasted all kinds of WRONG, like it had been fished from the ocean. The bread bowl never made it to the table, but the butter did! When I asked for a bowl of PLAIN pasta with cheese on the side for my daughter, she was served the cheesiest bowl of penne with alfredo sauce I have ever seen. My caprese salad was, just, ehh, with at least 6-8 leaves of lettuce, could you spare one extra? I paid with a gift certificate, and was re-gifted with another, in a rounded down amount (how thoughtful?) so I can re-gift to someone ELSE. O-o No. thanks.

I think our experience was made worse by the fact that our waitress was in a really bad mood. The view is beauutiful but... 1) I asked if the scallops and shrip were wild-caught or farmed and the the waitress didn't know and seemed really put-out to ask. (the salmon IS farmed) 2) The waitress never brought me my drink 3) I got the Seafood Scampi (linguini w. Swordfish, Shrip, Scollops in a lemon garlic butter). The seafood was boiled and TASTELESS! I also asked for the dish to be sauted in oil instead of butter due to an allergy and the waitress again seems incredibly rude. 4) After wandering around for a while, even asking where the bathroom was seemed like an incredible put-out This was a rainy cold day in off-season and a pricey meal, you'd think they' appreciate business and make decent/flavored food. I suggest Mama Mias next door. My dad got a shrimp/olive/feta/linguini dish that was pretty bland. Another guest got the swordfish w/ cajun seasoning and a side baked sweet potatoe and that was good. Two random plates (one barely filled) of string beans were put on the table. Seriously, don't spend your money here.

Isaac's was my savior on a Wednesday night around 9pm. My date and I hadn't had dinner yet, and I was going absolutely crazy with hunger. Thankfully, we ended up at Isaac's after a string of looking for restaurants that would serve dinner so late. Isaac's has an interesting entrance, where you have a couple small businesses on the building's first level; the staircase leading upstairs takes you to the actual restaurant. Since it was so late, we were told to sit at the bar (dinner is served until 10:45pm, but the kitchen closes earlier than that). I enjoyed sitting there, though, because Bartender Sue was so nice and accommodating to our needs. We were served drinks immediately, and for an appetizer, we ordered the House special, Clams Casino. At only $7.95, this dish includes "fresh cherrystones, chopped and baked with seasoned garlic butter, bacon, and breadcrumbs." We also ordered four raw oysters for only 75 CENTS EACH!! I was shocked and excited for 1) raw oysters, and 2) a great deal on them. Both appetizers were yummy, and they helped trying to satisfy my terrible hunger. For an entree, I ordered the Swordfish, which included a char-grilled steak with my choice of Cajun, lemon pepper or lemon garlic butter. I chose the Cajun way as well as having roasted potatoes and cole slaw on teh side. The dish comes with your choice of potatoes and vegetable. The kitchen ended up giving me a side of butternut squash as a bonus, and it was really tasty-- a nice surprise and addition to my meal! Maybe this was to compensate for their lack of mashed potatoes (!!!). My date ordered the Seafood Scampi, which includes a trio of "shrimp, scallops, and swordfish sautéed in a lemon garlic butter and served over linguini. Our food, along with a nice bottle of Cabernet, made for a great, late-night meal. Our dishes were under $20 each, which I think was well-worth it. I hope to return to Isaac's again because they had such great service and lots of options on their menu. Many of their specials that were not included on the regular dinner menu looked good, too. I've also heard that the view from the restaurant, looking out at the ocean, is beautiful. I will have to come back during the summer...I'm giving Isaac's 3.5 stars for my overall pleasant experience.

Isaac's is your grandmother's idea of a nice restaurant. The view is what sells the place and your meal is pretty much exactly as you expect it will be once you walk in and scan the large, not-so-bustling dining room with primarily older touristy clientele. There was nothing wrong with any of our dishes, but they were all precisely what you'd expect from a tightly-wound carpet, waitstaff in ties and nametags, slightly institutional "fine" dining establishment. The portions are massive, which may have something to do with the lack of imagination in the menu, but I did enjoy my seafood orgy of lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, and linguini. Okay, maybe I didn't enjoy the clams, but the rest of it was good. Would I go back on my own? Of course not. However, if I were squiring Great Aunt Agnes around Plymouth for some reason, Isaac's would be a must.

What I liked: -- the bar... big, quick service, well made drinks, enough TVs to watch "the" game -- the service, quick, friendly, -- the potential for a view, I ate here at night, but I assume during the day that this place would have a beautiful view -- the prices, nice dinner but not too pricey This was my first and likely last time I'll eat at this restaurant because I live on the west coast and just won't have the "repeat opportunity". I had a tasty dish called the Chicken and Shrimp Apricot. It could've used a little more kick to it I think, but it was unique and tasty overall. I also had the butternut squash puree, which I wasn't a fan of. A little too bland for my taste. The menu seemed to have a great variety and if I had the chance to go back, I would to try out some more dishes.

This past Saturday seated in a very drafty area, waitress was great, food not so much. My large cut up sea scallops weren't very tasty and my husband's Fresh Schrod was mediocre at best. His squash wasn't flavorful and my green beans were served cold. Have they changed owners or chefs recently because this was not the Isaac's we've frequented so much in the past before?

Bought my daughter's boyfriend a gift certificate for his birthday which is 12/21. The two of them go in for a nice meal and were told that the manager (the owner Bob) said they weren't "allowed" to use the gift certificate until after the holidays. They were made to pay for the meal out of their own pockets. Shame on Isaac's!! They have lost our business for good. Not only is it bad business, it's against Massachusetts law.

I was here about ten years ago and love it BUT not so much this time!!! I brought a quest visiting me and thought this would be one of the best places for someone that does not live on the coast to get lobster. The place was empty and we were told it would be a half hour. It was 3 in the afternoon. When we finally sat it took awhile for the waitress to come over. We sat next to a 4 trays piled on top of each other of dirty food the whole entire time of our dinning experience. GROSS!!!!!! I got the the baked stuff lobster. It was ok. Not the best i have ever had. My friend who has never had this said it was ok. Four hours later i had food poisoning!!!!I should of know to leave when we sat down for a 21/2hr dinner next to dirty dishes the whole time that i would be sick. NEVER GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SICK WITH FOOD POISONING!!!!!

I may not be the best person to review this restaurant because I usually get the same thing every time I go. But, i do go a lot when I am on the South Shore of Boston. I get the fried clams and lobster every time I go. Oh and I often get clam chowder. The view is amazing and it is helpful to make reservations. This is not a great place to watch a game. The bar does have a couple of t.v's but they are not very nice. It is just a great place to have a dinner and enjoy the beautiful view of Plymouth harbor. If you are not from Boston, you may be thrown off by the waitresses who might not seem the friendliest. But, I think this is more of an east coast thing. They also have free valet in the back.

Beautiful room.Reminds me of a mix of the 50's and Mad Men.Big bar, simple wine list, heavily sauced seafood which was not approved by the food police, but tasted WONDERFUL.Not hip but comfortable.

Upon its inception, Isaac's was supposed to be Plymouth's "nice" restaurant. The tiered dining room all but ensures that every table has a view of the waterfront, whilst the covered deck area lets the sea breeze ruffle your hair as you sit beneath twinkling white lights. As you listen to your shirt and tie dressed waiter list off the specials, the lobster and scallop dish catches your fancy. You place your orders, take a slow sip of your wine, and then begin to look around you. Um, is this a field trip from the local retirement home? Every other diner will more than likely be over the age of 65. Those that aren't wear the overtired expression of tourists, just happy to be looking at the ocean while they slurp their clam chowder. Where are the locals? Oh that's right; they've actually tasted the food before. Isaac's in theory is great. Isaac's in execution is not so much. From ice cold clam chowder, to lady bugs in the salad, we've had our fair share of mishaps here. And yet, Nana digs it (obviously, it's her generation's local hot spot), so we keep on coming back. In all fairness, I have had some good meals here (the previously mentioned lobster and scallop dish), but for good seafood while overlooking the water, I'd head on down to Wood's. It may be counter service and paper plates, but unless you're looking to be the next Anna Nicole, the linen and china of Isaac's isn't really worth it.

While on a family vacation, my parents wanted to have a nice seafood dinner & enjoy the view. I wanted food that actually had some taste & to go to a place where my preschool son would not get dirty looks from the other dinners. We went to Issac's. I had seafood fettuccine which was incredibly bland- only a few small pieces of shrimp & the scallops were very mushy. The parents marveled at the large portions & view while I tried to ignore the dirty looks the old ladies at the surrounding tables were giving us because I brought my son. The waitress was not overly friendly or helpful or fast. Like so many other reviewers said: the decor is tacky; the clientele is old; the food is sub-par; and the service is lacking!

The only good thing really going for this place is the view. Most seats have a great picture window view.. There is also an outside balcony with that great view. Good place to watch the shore and beach/plymouth rock activity..especially if you have nothing better to do and are not in a RUSH. Holy cow....we went there at 1:30 pm on a Tuesday...the place was 1/4 full...and it took us 2 hours to get through the meal. The kitchen is VERY SLOW. They probably havent hired enough cooks to keep up with the crowd. Clam chowder: Non memorable. The soup was thick but gritty...like they didnt cook and stir the flour enough. Not creamy or silky smooth as say..Union Oyster House.. It was tasty but it seemed like it was cooked by someone learning how to make clam chowder. Too bad.. it could have been great...3 stars for chowder Fish and chips. I hate it when a restaurant serves fish and chips and have no idea what malt vinegar is and why you would put it on fish and chips. GADS. I had to teach the waitress what to do. All they had was a wine vinegar. Please change the menu to calling it fried fish and french fries. The fish was fried correctly...moist and tender on the inside...crispy on the outside. However...there was absolutely no seasonings on the breading....it was just a flour and water batter. 3 stars The shrimp pasta was prepared very well except the alfredo sauce was gritty and not silky smooth. They have a lot to learn about making sauces and soups. The rest of the dish was prepared well. The noodles were thick and slightly al dente...good enough. The shrimp was not over cooked and executed well. This had the potential to be 4.5 stars...but the sauce let it down. Chicken parmesean was very good. This was very tasty and the chicken was done very well...tender and moist. ...not overcooked. This was a four star. Overall i rate this place 3 stars...It has the potential to be 4 or even 5 if they can find the right people to make sauces and soups. AND....they take too long to cook the food....they need more chefs. PS The first receptionist is a keno teller...she has to tell you to go around the corner of the lobby to eat. Very odd. Looks like its for someone that wants to play keno in atlantic city but doesnt want to drive down there.....

Horrible! Service bad. Atmosphere bad. Food bad. When my husband and I arrived the hostess was less then pleasant. She looked at us and said, while rolling her eyes, "No reservation, I assume?" . Then proceeded to seat us right away. Ummm okay. Then our server was unattentive, rude, and short with us, walking away from the table before we could finish letting her know what we wanted. We asked if they had belvedere vodka for our martinis and her answer was "No." and she walked away. So I guess all they have is house vodka at the bar, because I assume that was what we got. Her poor service didn't end there it continued throughout the whole meal. Needless to say she got a very bad tip and we are normally very good tippers. Food was sub-par. If your looking for lots of butter to give your food flavor then this is your place. If your looking for more flavor then just butter, then dine elsewhere. The only redeeming quality of this place was the espresso martinis which were surprisingly good, even with the house vodka or whatever we ended up getting. But we will not be going back.

Not good. Isaacs looks like Las Vegas. Gold bannisters, mirrors everywhere. So tacky. Also, like someone else said, everyone in here is very OLD. The worst part of Isaacs though: how everyone thinks its the classiest place in Plymouth to eat. not that Plymouth has tons of fine dining choices, but besides the view, there isn't much good going on for Isaacs. Its overpriced and the food is average at best. I've had a couple of good things at Isaacs. Their chowder is really good and they have a chicken and rice appetizer thats very good. But I had a stuffed lobster there last summer and was horrified when it came out: all bread stuffing in a lobster shell. The lobster was more or less the serving dish... I guess I shouldve read that description a bit closer as I thought I was going to get some lobster with some seafood stuffing. If you want good food in Plymouth, thats just a little bit more upscale than most of the downtown places, I'd suggest Tuscany Tavern. You need reservations but its really good.

If you match the following criteria this is your place: 1 - Hair with that special tint of blue 2 - It is 4:30 PM, must be time for diner 3 - It is not the quality of the food but the quantity 4 - The last music act that you remember liking was before Elvis Presley 5 - Your favorite topic of conversation is your latest ailment or which one of your friends just kicked it 6 - Your don't understand what the last part of the previous point means If you said yes to 6 of the 7 above, this is your home. Food comes in quantity, but not quality. The staff are inattentive. The only positive (and therefore the one star) is the view out the window.

Went here a while ago with my boyfriend. We were greeted by the host who was trying to control a quarreling group of waitresses, interestingly enough it took at least 15 min for us to get someone to come to our table. I ordered a pasta dish which was huge and on the bland side. My boyfriend had fish, which he complained was bland as well. Our waitress was kind, however, we could tell she was flustered. not sure what was going on with the staff, but besides that the decor is awful...looks like something that came out of the movie Good Fellas. At the end of the night, my boyfriend got sick from his baked fish dish..ugh!! never again!!

I personally found this place to be great. I loved the view and the service was EXCELLENT. I have read the other reviews about how everyone was old and this place wasn't hip blah blah blah, WTF this is Plymouth not Monte Carlo! Yeah it is old school, um so is Plymouth. I was there for the view. The portions were huge so those old people must be big eaters! Good Stiff cocktails too so the old people must be drinkers too!

I hit up Isaac's on a Tuesday prior to taking a Whale Watching trip. I think it was a little later than normal for the old people to be out en masse, so the restaurant was pretty empty. However, the hostess did size us up and place in the well-lit room with younger people as opposed to the 70-something couple that walked in shortly before us. The food was decent and not too badly priced for the amount we got. ~$7 for a sandwich or burger, $10 for an entree. I think the best deal was the Fried Cod Cakes - $8.95 for a bowl of chowder, 2 cakes and fries. I've been to better sea food restaurants, but we had a lovely waitress who was very attentive and got us in and out in time for our trip. All in all, I had a good experience, although I can understand the complaints of other. Oh and by the way, did anyone else have a nasty run-in with the Keno lady at the top of the stairs?

We went to Isaac's, in spite of some terrible reviews I've read, because our friends from Cape Cod chose it. I was flabbergasted by the difference between what I read & what I experienced. The service was efficient & friendly, the view was lovely, the ambiance was very pleasant, the air conditioning was turned down at my request, & the food was delicious!

We really enjoy Isaac's. The price is good, the views are spectacular and the staff has always been friendly with us. We always get the fisherman platters -- taste is always consistantly great. Our only issue (not really, but it's funny) is that we are always the youngest diners in there --in our 30's! Not a problem...just amusing.

This place is said to be one of the nicest restaurants in Plymouth. I don't know what all the hype is about. Yes, it has a sweet view of the ocean because it's on the second floor, but I generally just feel uncomfortable and out of place here. There are plenty of other seafood places with better food and service in Plymouth. I went here with my family (about 20 of us) for my uncle's birthday...and one would think that servers would be on top of everything because big bill = big tip, apparently they never thought about that while they weren't filling out drinks and being rude while we were ordering.

I went to isaacs about 8 years ago it was very good. Planned a holiday dinner with my employee. When we arrived i met them at the bar. The bartender walkled by at least 6 times before she first told me there was a no hat policy in the establishment. Then left to return later and ask if we would like a drink. The Bud lites are excellent. We had our drink and they then seated us in the room off the far end of bar .Panels falling out of ceiling. The waistress was terriblle and she was better than the food. The place was not crowded and she seemed to be in a rush all the time we were there I had baked stuffed shrimp .Dry, chewey seemed to be cooked twice. The stuffing was horrible. The waitress never brought over the drawn butter Another person with us had the lobster supreme.Same thing the shrimp and scallops in stuffing was bland and chewey, Anothe rperson in the party had filet .She said the potatoes were the best part of the meal. i ordered coffee at the end of our meal, my wife still had a half of her drink and said she would decide if she wanted coffe after she finished her drink.3 minutes later the waitress came back with the bill and said she would adjust it if my wife decided if she wanted coffee. I guess she decided for us.Terrible food and service. As for the view we went at night and did niot get to enjoy.I dont go to restaurants for the view I go for the food.Never again and I will let my friends know.. If you want good food and a great view try the Fairview in Marshfield been there many times and never been dissapointed .Wanted to try somewhere different and was greatly dissapointed

Ate there last Sunday with another couple, on a good day you can not replace the view. How ever the atmosphere was busy and chaotic. We were sat in a corner table where the traffic of the staff and bus personnel was non stop. This did not add to the experience. It was like sitting in the kitchen. The waitress was extremely pleasant. The food was not as pleasant but rather average and somewhat bland. I had the veal chop which was thick and the sauce edible but the veggies needed help. We had the stuffed mushrooms and the sauce was thick and I could not tell where the seafood was. The caps were small and left a lot to be desired. The wife had the Marsala dish and left most of it on the plate, and did not wish to take the rest home which said it all. The other couple both had the seafood fried medley and they seamed to enjoy it, the portions were big and for a party of 4 with 2 beers and soft drinks it was about $120 including the tip.

Yes, this place is extremely cheesy and very dated. But for New England-style "old people food," it's pretty good. HUGE portions, great view from any seat in the restaurant. If you're ever planning to go, be sure to make a reservation, and make it for 30 min - 1 hour before you'd actually like to eat, they seem like they overbook their tables.

We have eaten at this restaurant over the years to celebrate family members birthdays. While the wait staff has always been rude, the food has been passible. Last week we had a party of 10. The menus were filthy, the dishes and silverware on the table was dirty. The busboys were spraying windex to clean the tables close by and suffocating us. The entire dining room complained--the young man said, "I know" and continued! The food was horrible. Clam chowder was cold, french fries greasy, baked stuff shrimp was like rubber, The fetticune was drenched with sauce. Should I go on? Given the uncleaninless of the place and the rudeness of the manager (I called her after we left) I would NOT recommend this restaurant. They need to turn things around. They occupy a beautiful space overlooking the water....and they are a popular tourist destination BUT they need to CARE about their restaurant and their food...and their service. Really a disappointment from beginning to end.
