I admit we have not been here in about a year, but we used to eat here two or three times a month, our family were regular customers for about eight years. We loved the place, the people, the service, and the food was always great.. When the food started going down hill, we kept going because they made the best margaritas for miles around, and it still wasn't too bad. When they switched to sour mix for the margaritas, and cut back on the tequila, we went a few more times, partly out of habit, partly out of loyalty, partly hoping they'd shape up. The food kept getting colder, the margaritas more watered down, we finally had no excuse to go here anymore, there's an Acapulco's right down the street. I'm probably being sentimental giving them the second star, they didn't deserve it last time we were there. I will go back some day. I hope they get their act together.

Went here with my family of five after a day at Nashoba. The restaurant is built out of a house, and has a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. My best impression of this restaurant was that the service was very good. For appetizers, we had the "Wings of Fire" and "Southwest Quesadillas". The hot wings had a very good taste, as it was obvious the coating on them was well seasoned before they were fried up - I highly recommend them. Our server was happy to substitute "Carne Asada" for the quesadillas, and they were also delicious. My wife and I had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and a chimichanga. I was fairly disappointed with both. The chicken in both was dry, tough, and pretty flavorless. I will say that the tortilla for the chimichanga was perfectly fried. To the cook, I recommend you cook your chicken in any sauce or stew instead of just boiling it as it appeared to be - its gotta have flavor and moisture before it goes into anything thats going to be fried or baked. My daughter had the "Camarones Diablo". This dish was generous, had a fair amount of heat, and a good flavor, with shrimp in a spicy sauce over angel hair pasta. Unfortunately, the pasta was unforgivably overcooked. The winner for entrees in our meal was the "Texas tacos" with fish. These were great and I recommend them, but I was surprised they were served without tomatoes or picante. My daughter also ordered the "Texas tacos" with carne asada, and while the meat alone had a good flavor, my take away was that they were less impressive than the fish tacos. A couple of other observations - the house guacamole needs improving, and should not be so dense or cold when served. The dishes with cheese in them seemed to have just cheddar in/on them, and a blend of cheeses (of higher quality) would have been preferable to me. The sour cream served as an accompanyment for several of the dishes was served too cold and was not very tasty - again seemed to be low quality. The refried beans appeared to be homemade, and in my opinion need to be more fried. The rice was slightly hard and undercooked. The prices here are family friendly, so I'd say 4 stars for price. The service was excellent, I'd give them 5 stars on that. The food overall was ok, but based on food alone I can't say that I'd feel compelled to go back, 3 stars on the food. Having grown up in Texas and New Mexico, I'd have a hard time saying the food here is a good representation of authentic Tex-Mex.

The food tasted like cheap tv dinner and was over priced. Even the ice tea was terrible. Will never go back.

I had been to Alamo years ago and considered it a disappointment, but I thought I'd try it again last week and I'm glad I did. The Alamo serves decent Tex-Mex food at very reasonable prices. The idea of "good" Tex-Mex is kind of an anachronism. It is what it is: filling and tasty. As Tex-Mex goes, the Alamo's food is as good as any I've had. The atmosphere is funky but unique. The owners' kid is a child TV star and there are photos everywhere of the boy with various celebrities. You can spend a half hour just reading the walls. Service was quick and attentive. I judge bar service by the size of the martini they serve and Alamo's was quite generous. The best part was getting the bill: less than $25 for two people, including drinks. The Alamo goes on my list of regular dinner destinations in the area.

The food is unambiguously mediocre. The quality of the margaritas depend on the bartender of the day. Fred, the owner is evangelical about the entertainment he books, but his enthusiasm would be more appropriately reserved for his son's acting career. The patio is a bonus in the summertime.

If you have ever had Mexican food don't go here. Service is fine but otherwise nothing good to say. The food Is all pre-packaged, guacamole is worse than the canned stuff at market basket, menu is boring, ... Two visits for my wife and I, 4 boring to bad meals.

Went to the Alamo once, and will never go back. We were drawn by the appeal of outdoor seating in the summer. Don't be fooled - it's not worth it! The food was terrible, the service was worse, and they even got the check wrong. If you're looking for Mexican I recommend going to Acapulcos at 231 East Main St in Milford. They lack outdoor seating, but the food and drinks will make up for it!

I lover this place and just wish it were closer. Is it authentic Mexican, not really, but it is pretty good and the prices are great. They have some 8-10 odd margarita flavours (the pomegranate and the raspberry are must tries) and they keep you well stock on chips and salsa. We've had slow service once on an incredibly busy Friday night, and the owner was out busing tables and checking in on tables to help his staff. That's awesome.

A very good tex-mex restaurant, actually its probably concidered Mexican-American food. They do have some, if not most of the traditional/authenitc items though. Its hidden waaaaay out in Milford, which is off of 495, but definitely worth the trip. The food is very yummy, the margaritas are large and strong, and the service and atmosphere are great. Its in an old house, so its nice and cozy I've never really had to wait (i've only been a handful of times) but it is smaller than some restaurants, and I have heard of people waiting a little bit for a table. They dont have flan though, which is my favorite desert at mexican restaurants...(my boyfriend says its not a real mexican restaurant if they dont have flan) Fun side fact: The family that owns the restaurant has a famous son! Its the little blonde boy on "Malcom in the Middle", 'Dewie', real name Erik per Sullivan. It should be no surprise when you walk into the restaurant entry way that his face is all over the place!!

When this place first opened, I swore I'd never go. The sign alone made me not want to go. You see, it's called Alamo: Mexicano Restaurante. Anyone who's taken about a week of Spanish knows that adjectives come after the nouns, so it should be restaurante mexicano. That alone will make me deduct stars. Eventually I did go. The food was just ok. Edible, but nothing to write home about as far as I was concerned. I still cringe when I drive past this place and see the sign. I don't think I'll be going back.

The food here is okay, and the service was also good. The tacos my wife ordered were fresh, but nothing special. My burrito was good, but just didn't jump with flavor. The waitstaff were a bit standoffish, but they were prompt and attentive. I would go back if a friend really pushed it, but nothing here made me really excited about this place.

Great tex-mex food in a fun atmosphere. It's in an old house with tacky murals and paper table"cloths" you can draw on with the crayons they provide. Lots of pictures of that child actor with various celebrities as you enter. For some reason, this just cracked me up. So if you know what you expect from the atmosphere and are at peace with it, you'll be all right. Update: Normally when it comes to margaritas, I stick with the norm. But I tried there pomegranite margarita and it was delicious. The key was not to make an overly syrupy sweet pomegranite concoction. It was a traditional margarita with just a splash of pomegranite in there. Delicious. Now the food. Everything I've had there is solid, including the beans and rice. But the beef fajitas are probably the best I've ever had. Great chips and salsa that the server's don't mind bringing you more and more of. They're also very accomodating when it comes to substitutions/additions. And maybe it's because it's in the suburbs and I'm used to eating in the city, but I thought everything was very inexpensive for what you get.

Went with friends for dinner, I was less than impressed. The food was just OK, the service was worse. Our waitress was so bad the waitress in the section next to us had to basically fix everything she messed up or forgot. The dining rooms are crowded and cramped. It did feel kind of 'homey' though. I would try it again, the drinks were good. Hopefully we have better service next time!

Food is consistently good... most of the time, a majority of the dishes are outstanding (especially the chile rellenos, beef enchiladas, and chicken merlos). Every now and then, seems like they get somebody new in the kitchen, and the flavor gets inconsistent until they come up to speed (which is usually pretty quick, 'cuz this place tends to get a lot of customers). The Margueritas are top notch, too!

    (4)
  • Matt C.

While the reviews are right, the service is definitely hit-or-miss - they need to start hiring more competent people - the food is always top notch. and one time, the kid from malcolm in the middle bussed the table. now THAT is a family working together! And the kids love the corn dogs, too.

  • Patrick B.

Decent service, delicious food. The obligatory bottomless tostada chips were very good(actually tasted homemade and fresh!), and the skirt steak I ordered was out of this world! It was probably the most tender and flavorful piece of steak I've ordered at a Mexican restaurant. The sides(rice and refried beans) were also very tasty. Pretty reasonable price range as well. I would absolutely make the trip out here again.

  • Cory B.

I've only been here once. The owners are very friendly, the staff was nice and service was fast. We had a baby with us and they were very accommodating. I do love the fact that they give you crayons to draw on the paper table cloths. The food was fine, not the most memorable mexican food I've ever had but far from the worst. I will probably go again.

    (3)
  • Dom M.

I've always liked it here. The food is cheap, they have outdoor seating, and they can make Don Julio Margaritas, which isn't always easy to find at some mexican places. The chips here are great too.

    (4)
  • Kevin Q.

I am not really a fan of Mexican but I came with a group and had the beef fajita. It was a very large portion and it fills you up but it was mediocre. The beef was a bit on the tough side although it was cooked to the perfect doneness.

  • Tee A.

i've been here twice and I must say I was not disappointed. I liked the traditional setting inside, the crayons and the paper table cloth plus the celebrity boy's pictures in the front lobby. Its a small place but the food is great. Do not go if you get claustrophobic because I felt the sitting arrangement was a bit clustered. As for the food, I had enchiladas which were really nice and the price was super affordable. The good food and low price would definitely take me back there..

    (4)
  • Kendra D.

Super salty, sloppy and otherwise flavorless food. The margaritas tasted more like pancake syrup than lime and tequila. The food reminded me of "taco day" at the cafeteria in elementary school.

  • Dorian G.

meh. it was worth a shot, but not worth returning to. the service was really, really crappy. our waitress never came back to see how we were doing, she didnt bring a refill on one margarita, but charged us for a beer (which no one had ordered). it sucks when you go out with a group of friends and they tack on the tip automatically and the service is awful. the food was meh too. i had quesadillas, which were plenty cheesy and chock full of veggies, but they were kinda of soft and soggy, so they were really hard to hold in your hand. and i'm a firm believer that quesadillas are finger food. the guacamole was really good though.

Went here on a whim on Columbus day because the girlfriend had a deep-seated desire for mexican food (she comes from southern california.) Needless to say she was happy with the outcome. They served tortilla chips for free to start and that was tasty - the salsa they served was great too, had a nice kick . We shared the alamo nachos appetizer (which was awesome!) and I got the Davey Crockett burger with cheddar and chili. Excellent food, friendly service, will be coming back again when we are in the area. Also, they were VERY accommodating to my girlfriend's allergy to cilantro, and even brought out the ingredient lists for everything they had in the restaurant. Grade A right there.

I love this place. My whole family loves this place. We've been coming for several years. The fajitas are fantastic but my favorite is the chimichanga. Prices are great. The service is fantastic and friendly and the owner is there walking the floor most nights making sure everything is perfect. It always is.

Food: 3 stars Service: 2.5 stars Atmosphere & Cleanliness: 2 stars Parking: 3 stars I hadn't been here in about 10 years, so I guess I was expecting it to be like it was 10 years ago. (It was, which turned out to be a mixed blessing.) The food was still good (I ordered a taco salad with shredded beef. The serving size was large and all the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The free chips and salsa were decent; the salsa was a little spicy but good. The iced tea had no flavor and tasted like colored water.) Unfortunately, the decor in the place hadn't changed one bit. It was dingy, worn and dated looking. The woman who seated us seemed bored out of her brains (we were the only ones there, only car in the parking lot, around 3pm on a Wednesday, so fair enough I guess.) There is plenty of parking, which is good. Our server was a young kid who looked like he may have been a family member of the owners. His name was Travis, I believe, and he was really great. If it were just for him and the food, I'd give 4 stars. But the attitude of the other person (hostess, maybe a server too) and how she spoke to this kid, detracted from the overall service experience. Two things: Avoid the bathroom if at all possible, and if you drip anything on yourself, whatever you do, don't use one of their maroon paper napkins to wipe it off -- the color transfers onto your clothing, making the stain maroon. Eek. If the owners would clean this place from top to bottom, renovate the insides and pep up the wait staff, they could make it into something great again.

My husband the Bacon Prince and I had enjoyed this place a few years ago. What happened? ?? Went there on a Thursday night with a girlfriend for a quick bite while shopping. We each had the tacos with chicken/steak. Food was bland - how can a spicy steak taco be bland???! We did not finish our meals and neither of us will go back.

Hard to find patio seating in Massachusetts, we stopped here to try it. The experience wasn't bad but it wasn't great. The patio consisted of picnic tables and several very loud , very drunk women that were constantly smoking. The patio area is right next to a fairly busy road with just a split rail fence separating us. The entrees and drinks were good, the guacamole was out of a jar. It's not hard to find Mexican restaurants, I don't think I would go out of my way for this one.

Back in Milford on business again and has to go back here. Had just a bowl of their homemade chili and I am here to tell you it is AWESOME. Nice beefy flavor and a heat that just builds as you go. Whatever he is doing with this is in my opinion near perfect chili.

  • Paul L.

Went there for drinks and dinner with a friend tonight and left unimpressed. The food was a step up from Denny's at best and the atmosphere was bland at best. I had higher expectations as I have been passing by this place for many years and it has been open for years. Have the Chicken Mole and it was not good. My friend had the enchiladas which he said was "ehhh". The beer selection was not bad so that is a good thing.

The past few times I've been here we've had to send the drinks back for having hair/flies frozen within the ice cubes. The staff is really sweet but, I'd rather not have hairy margaritas. I sadly won't be returning.

I don't understand how anyone can enjoy their food after what I just experienced with my takeout. The beans had no salt, the rice had a weird flavor that deterred me from eating it, and the chips were greasy and soggy. Absolutely not authentic Mexican, and absolutely not even mediocre Mexican. I will not return, I'm better off at Taco Bell.

  • Scott M.

Very little can be said that's positive about this place. The server was pleasant, that's about it. The fact that it was a ghost town at prime time on Friday night should have been a red flag. The menu looked typical with decent prices. The chips and salsa are usually a good indicator of the quality of restaurant. These arrived quickly, but had the taste of old oil, salsa was forgettable. The food arrived in a similarly quick fashion. The rice was cold, in clumps and tasteless. What passed for refried beans were equally cold and tasted weird. The shredded chicken and beef weren't bad, but cold as well. On an upside, my Pacifico was cold to. I have had Mexican in many places in this area, as well all around SoCal. While not an expert, I know what passes for quality food. I cannot recommend this restaurant at all. Travel further down 495 to Fiestas in Norton. Best Mexican I've had outside of San Diego county.

  • Octavia S.

I've been coming here since they've opened....to say I was disappointed today would be an understatement...I ordered the chicken fajitas they were tasteless, the vegetables were undercooked and the chicken looked like a mix of white and dark meat...the cheese looked and tasted like shredded velveta...won't be back anytime soon!

    (1)
  • Anita S.

Friendly staff in the midst of what appears to be the lunch rush. Unfortunately the food is mediocre. Salsa tastes canned and oddly sweet. Ordered lunch tamales; the beans and tamales were quite greasy. The rice actually tasted fresh and had good flavor. Won't come here again based on today's outcome.

Our go to place for good mexican in this area. It's nothing fancy but I like that. It's just good, authentic, mexican food. THEIR NACHOS ARE AMAZING! We get them to start every single time. Their prices are fair and we are always surprised our bill isn't higher at the end of the night! I usually get enchiladas but recently tried their 'tortizza' and loved it! like an open faced quesadilla! We're regulars and always know where t satisfy our mexican food craving!

It's a shame 1 star is the lowest rating you can give, because The Alamo has gone above and beyond in regards to shit service and even shittier food. We followed the highway signs, psyched to try out a new Mexican place. We got there prime time on a Saturday night and immediately found a front row parking space. This was the first omen. The second omen came in form of rubber chips greasier than a pornstar's bungalow and salsa of unidentifiable color, but at least there were glasses full of dishwater to wash the the unchewable mass down with. Main course arrived, I don't know where, but it wasn't at our table. In the plate-bowl, which was a real pain in the ass to use a fork on, was some sort of spores and mold foreign to this planet, wrapped in an unpenetratable, armadillo like shell of what I think was bread at one point. The fish tasted like month old cat dish scrapings fried in wrung out sponge water. There was a valient effort to slay the rice clumps with a knife, but such a daunting task would require energy from nutrition. Sadly, the "rice" won. There was very minimal effort on the wait staff and kitchen. The food looked thrown together and unappetizing and it tasted, at what I can only imagine is slightly above prison standards. The orders were all messed up and the waitress was in no hurry to send them back to the kitchen or even take the wretched rice off the bill. I can't wait to shit this poison from my body and am sure it will be a more pleasant experience than dining at the Ala-NO.

Serious competition in Milford, MA for Mexican food which is great for us as customers (quality and price)! My pick is The Alamo, the staff is so friendly, lots of happy faces and the owner (Steve?) is very involved and always seems to be there helping out his staff. The owner served in the armed forces and offers discounted prices for vets and active service members. The facility is authentic, very kid friendly and food is awesome! Awesome murals, paintings and authentic pictures, its an experience. My favorite dishes are Chimichangas and Uncle Billy's BBQ Beefwich. The kids menu is legit and a bargain. Great for phone orders! I am pretty picky (food allergies too) and often times ask to not include certain things IE onions, certain sauces and they always come through. Highly recommend! Convenient location right off 495

Great food, fast service. Free chips while you wait for your food. The outdoor tables are nice when the weather's nice. Don't really have anything bad to say about this place...just wish it was closer so I could go there more often.

There's better Mexican in Milford. If you want beeahs and shootahs, this'll do. If you want nachos with loads of cheese, this'll do. This is not authentic Tex-Mex or even a rough facsimile. In fact, my burrito was swimming in oil and drowning in cheese. Everything tasted like garlic. I'd give it another shot, if it didn't take 45 minutes to get my food. The place could use a good scrubbing. Let's be blunt: it's dirty. Ripped seats, stained carpets, and filthy bathrooms. Imagine what the kitchen looks like.

    (2)
  • Chris R.

The staff is friendly and quick and coloring on the tables was great for the kids. The frozen margaritas weren't mixed well and the food was lackluster. Great environment but not great food. The Texas tacos were very limited in fillings except for shredded beef which wasn't a good thing.

  • Kelly C.

The Alamo is a low key, simple place to get great food and not spend a lot of money. You always get a nice, warm basket of tortilla chips and homemade salsa. They are free and they will keep refilling them for you. We like to purchase a side of guacamole to go with it. One of my favorite dishes is the steak burrito wrap. It is covered in cheese and guacamole. This place is worth a visit. I go at least once a month.

  • Digby C.

We've been here a few times, which means it's good enough to come back to, but I'd add that it's also not fantastic. As a transplanted Texan I'd call it workable Tex-Mex...a lot of standard dishes, and no attempts to do anything too fancy. They do bill themselves as 'Mexicano', but I'm not seeing the tamales on the menu, and the Alamo murals are kind of funny. Anyway, last time around: I tried the zarapes, which didn't do much for me. B. My wife had the chile relleno (which the young waitress charmingly pronounced with the L's intact) which was good. A-. My son had the salad bowl and gave it a B. My other kids had the soft tacos and said they were fine. B+. The restaurant itself is VERY child-friendly, and yet looks comfortable for folks looking for some beers and good table food. This is strong 3 stars, so call it 3+.

Great place with outdoor seating in summer, reasonable prices, and a secret weapon...Loaded Coronas. They're not on the menu, ask your wait staff. A Corona with a shot of tequila in the neck of the bottle...delicious.

This ranks high on the list of worst places I've ever been to. How do people actually still come here? Everything tasted like frozen meals reheated in a microwave. I actually came here twice just to be sure it was really that bad. It was. The only thing that was good was the chips and salsa. I've been to Acapulco's in Milford and even they were a huge improvement over this dingy, dirty place. If it's this dirty in the dining room, what does the back of the house look like? Yuk. Just gross. Save your money, you will get much better food, drinks and service elsewhere.

I'm a big fan of the alamo. They have a great vegetarian burrito and I love the fresh homemade chips and jalapeño ranch dressing to dip them in. If you're looking for an awesome margarita, they've got the best in town.

My wife and I are transplants to Milford, originally living closer to Boston. While the staff is extremely friendly and quick at the Alamo, the food is not the greatest Mexican food I've ever had. Prior to living in Milford, we lived in an area where there were a lot of Mexican-American-run Mexican restaurants made from family recipes by actual Mexican people. That is not the case with the Alamo and it shows. I wouldn't say it's bad food, just nothing special, and certainly not authentic. Friendly, attentive staff, though, I give them an A+. If I had to give the food a letter grade, I'd have to give it a C. Not gross, just not as great as the places I've been to run by real Mexicans both in Massachusetts and when I traveled to Texas, which ironically this restaurant is Alamo/Texas themed.

Great margaritas, order the "Especial". I am very picky when it comes to margaritas. These were delicious and strong. It was not one of those watered down sour mix chain restaurant ones. I was upstairs in the bar area. The bar itself is pretty small but there are tons of tables up there too. The only thing I had to eat was the hard tacos. We ordered 10 of them - beef, chicken and shredded beef. They were all good. It's really hard to mess up a hard taco. Next time I'll have to try more of their food. We just pretty much wolfed down the tacos just to have some food in us. The bartender was friendly and quick. Good place to meet some friends for a drink. I'll be back!

I come to this restaurant several times a year and have never had a problem. GREAT food, the chimichangas are THE BEST. I've tried every plate there and have nothing to complain about. Prices are great and the service is even better. Thanks to the staff for such a great job! Truly tasty food. Oh yeah, try the black bean soup it's awesome.

I've got friends that swear by this place, otherwise I'd probably go elsewhere when I come home to visit. Want to know WHY these friends swear by this place? Reasonably priced, strong margaritas!! The food's not bad, but it's nothing to write home about either. The prices reflect the food quality however--I never feel ripped off whenever I've been here. Acapulco's is right down the street though and I think they've got better food. And it's not as crowded--though that COULD be a sign that people like Alamo better.

Ive been here several times. Its owned by the father of "malcom in the middle", you can see local newpaper posting about the hometown boy turned TV star. Anyway, The food is decent. Margaritas are strong Prices are reasonable. They give you crayons to draw on the table. What more can you ask for? Favorite things on the menu: Shredded Beef quesidilla. (Large torialla slightly crisp filled with tons of juicy beef and cheese.) Shredded Beef Chimichanga. (Huge flour toritilla stuffed with flavorful shredded beef, deep fried and topped with Tomatillo Sauce) YUM!

Seems like this place has been here long before any of the other Mexican restaurants. They do it well. I've been a few times and the food has been good. Lets be honest most Mexican dishes have the same ingredients just arraigned a little different. So if one is goos most of em are. Decent atmosphere when it's busy. When it's slow not so much

I have to say, I was not impressed when we went there. We all has several different things, and none of us was happy with the meal. The chicken was pretty bland and the beans were not very flavorful. The kids had tacos and such, and they also said that it wasn't great. They ate their food, but said that it didn't have that much taste. I'm not sure that we'll go back here...but it was worth the try. I do have to say, the size of the cokes and such were HUGE. Still, when we was done with our soda, we weren't able to get a refill as our server wasn't very attentive.

This place deserves no stars..If you like food, don't get it here because it wont be good, or even edible. This place will make you hate food, and hate yourself for buying it here. I have never been to a worse mexican restaurant in my whole life. I have had better mexican food in China. ( seriously.) The food is terrible, barely edible, its lower than dog food grade, and the owner is about as surly, confrontary, and aggressive as they get if you have the druthers to say anything about it.. I know the owner's son is a famous child actor or Malcolm and the Middle fame.Big Deal.. But that doesn't warrant anything and carries all the semiotic weight of a cat turd. Don't eat here..Don't drink here.. in fact.. Don't even stop to use the bathroom,..Don't do anything here.. Don't Don't Don't Don't Don't..However, Do sign a petition to have this place shut down for good. It sucks.

Definitely prefer the Alamo to the other place down the street. Don't go there thinking you'll get a fancy 5* Mexican feast. The food and drinks are all good - basic Tex-Mex fare. The service is hit or miss but the owner(?) and his family are all very warm and welcoming people who make the rounds through the dining room to check on their patrons - that's a huge plus in my book. The chips and salsa are yummy and we often order the white con queso to snack on before our meals.

I grew up in East Texas and this is without a doubt the closest thing I have found to Tex-Mex I have ever found in all of New England. I cannot say enough about how great this place is. The Chimichangas are amazing as well as the chili burger. Even the fries remind me of the ones I grew up with in Texas. The chips and salsa also are great. Love everything about this place. I will have to admit I have only been here twice but look forward to returning. The service was great and the owner was very nice and accomidating.

Hit the Alamo on 12/15/12 and was starving. Usually that would bias me favorably to the food being served. House Margaritas strong but a bit sweet. Still a great deal and hit the spot. The warm tortillas were surprisingly unsalty and the salsa as bland as could be until treated with some Habanero sauce. As unsalty as the tortillas were, everything far too salty. Crazy salty. Chicken Melos - house specialty - nice blend of flavors completely drowned in salt. Unappetizing presentatIon in a shallow bowl of soupy salty rIce. For reference - I use far too much salt on everything so for me to find it too salty is really saying something. Obnoxious loud broads cursing in the corner of the room just added to the atmosphere.

I feel somewhat hypocritical giving this place 2 stars, because my coworkers and I do go here on a semi frequent basis. However, here is my reasoning: This is one of the few places in the area where we can go to eat lunch outside on a nice day. I work right around the corner, so it always gets suggested by someone for Friday lunch on a nice day. When I do go, I am almost always sitting outside. The service outside has been painfully slow on several occasions. There was this one woman who worked there who was extremely grumpy and slow, but I haven't seen her in a while, so maybe she's gone now. The food is "eh." They have lunch combos that give very large portions for short money, but the food quality isn't all there. It's kind of bland, which isn't generally what you'd want with Mexican food. The restaurant is owned by the parents of the child actor Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey on Malcolm in the Middle, which is a neat little factoid. I'd say if you're looking for a good Mexican meal, you'd have batter luck down the street at Acapulco.

Good food, GREAT prices. Ok, so this is not what you would get in Mexico City but it is solid tex-mex with huge portions. The jalapeño queso dip ($3.99) is very good as is the complementary salsa. I usually get the chimichanga ($10.99) as my entree and it doesn't disappoint; it is huge, loaded with beef, and comes with a side of rice and beans. Service is usually fast although if it gets extrememly busy there may be a delay in drink refills (that is pretty standard at all but the top-tier restaurants). I have never had an unfriendly waitress here though and have been coming here for years. I always recommend The Alamo to people who want a good portion of decent food at a fair price.

We have eaten a few times here in the past and stopped by this past Friday for dinner. It was fairly busy, but were seated quickly. I would not say service was overly slow, but we did have to wait a few times for a few things. The meal overall was so-so. Personally i think the salsa was not spicy enough for a "hot sauce". I had the chili rellenos and was not too impressed. While one of them was good, the other chili was undercooked and was raw and crunchy. Not what i am looking for in a good chili relleno. The enchiladas were good (plain cheese since it was Lent). And the Shrimp tacos were pretty good. We did complain about the Relleno and the owner came by to talk to us about it and understand our complaints. Was pleased about that. Overall it is a standard Mexican-American joint if that is what you are looking for. Still searching for a place with a lot more kick to their food and a bit more authentic.

Horrible. Worst Mexican I've ever had. Apparently other reviewers haven't been to a good Mexican place. Try Pisano's in Watertown.

I've gone here several times over the year, so I can't say it terrible. What I can say is they haven't changed one single thing in the last 15 years, from the menu, to the rusty doors in the mens room to the big grease stain down the side of the building by the kitchen vent. Typical Tex-Mex fare, tacos burritos & enchiladas. Nothing really different or authentic. It's tasty, but kind of a dump and in need of a new menu and a remodel. The owner is really nice (malcom in the middle's little brothers dad, in real life) service is good, value is good but it's a little tired.

It was nice sitting outside. But I guess you get what you pay for. I ordered Fish Tacos. The fish was the same that would be served with fish and chips. The rice was somewhat undercooked and the retried beans had a film like they'd been sitting for a while. I ordered a side of guacamole and it was definitely the sort you buy in a packet at the supermarket. They were only $7.99 but I think I'd rather pay a bit more for better quality food. the fajitas that my husband ordered were bland and greasy. Shame 'cos sitting outside was nice - even on the main road. Waitress was nice!

We had seen good reviews on various web sites so we decided to give The Alamo a try. Unfortunately, our experience was less than memorable. I entered the restaurant and saw several dining rooms with minimal decor and ambiance. I arrived before my dining partner and asked if I could sit at the bar while I waited. I was then told the bar was upstairs and thats where the best seats were. I went up to the bar and found a very small bar with about 10 barstools. I craved a beer and found the selection to be limited, with few craft or imported beers and a lot of Buds and Coors. I ordered a Dos XXX which was very tasty. The upside was that fresh fried tortilla chips were complimentary and the salsa was very tasty. My dining partner arrived and we ordered a cup of black bean soup. Hoping a restauarant that claimed "authentic Mexican food" we were disappointed. The beans were undercooked and there was absolutely no bean broth. I would not characterize it as soup. More just a cup of hot spiced black beans with a few onions and diced tomatoe sprinkled in. We asked for shredded cheddar and sour cream to compliment the soup, which made it more appetizing. My partner ordered the Chicken Chimichanga which was served crisp and hot, but again lacked flavor and was bland. The tomato sauce did not help. I ordered three soft tacos with Carne Esada. Lacking any filling, they were more like small fajitas. Both dishes came with Mexiacan RIce and Refried Beans. The rice was dry and undercooked, lacked any other vegetables such as onion, peppers or diced tomatoe. The refried beans were not cooked enough and felt more like undercooked beans in a bean puree. Service was sluggish but not too slow. The outdoor patio has picnic tables. I never saw a picnic table at a Mexican Cantina To be honest, Acapulco's has a much better menu and a more vibrant Mexican ambiance. I doubt I'll return to The Alamo.

I am not a big Mexican food fan but as far as this place goes it's not bad. The chips and salsa are fresh and the service is good. On warm days you can sit outside and eat or have a drink. They have a upstairs bar area which is very small but is good for a hangout evening. Give this place a try.

I can only give this place 3 stars because I have had better Mexican Food - BUT not in Milford or the surrounding areas. This place by far has the best Mexican in Milford. The service is incredible - friendly and punctual. Mark treated us like royals! Fish tacos were fried cod probably and had cheese and lettuce - no cabbage or slaw. The lunch burritos were good - more like taco size though...we would go back again.

We are always pleased, buzzed and full when we leave The Alamo. It's not a high end mexican place you'd go to in a big city, but for the 'burbs, it's great! The service is always wonderful--such nice people work there! Margaritas are great--the "Especial" is the way to go if you don't want a pre-mixed, weak margarita. Chicken fajitas are so good--that's pretty much the only thing I'll get other than the black bean soup. The only weird thing is that I guess there are two different chefs and there's a remarkable difference between how they season and cook their food. It's never BAD, they just have different seasoning styles. Sometimes the salsa will be sweet, sometimes really spicy. Same with the black bean soup. Always great though--and sometimes it's a nice surprise!

Came here once for lunch. We sat upstairs and mostly had the place to ourselves. I had heard good things about Alamo and wanted to like it but the food was so disappointing. I ordered the fish tacos that came with black beans and rice. The tacos were inedible and so was the rice. The taco shells were so hard you couldn't bite them and the fish was like frozen fish sticks. The rice was hard and undercooked. I would not go back, nor would I recommend this place to anyone.

Love love love this place! It is our go to restaurant when we don't want to cook. Service is super fast and friendly. The value for what you get is amazing and it is very family friendly. We go at least twice a month and when we have out of town guests we bring them here. It is a casual, comfy place. The Texas Tacos are my favorite - great rice and beans. My husband loves homemade salsa and chips. We'll go out of our way to get take out for NFL Sundays too.

Great place. I go here at least once a month since it is one of the unique mexican restaurant close to my work. Can't really think anything negative about this place. Delicious mexican food.

I meet friends here fairly regularly. Margaritas are excellent. I have a menu favorite of chicken enchilladas and usually stick to that. We love coming here. Inexpensive, comfortable, and service is always good!

Great margaritas! Quick and good service. All the food was excellent. 4 adults and 3 kids are and drank for $100. Good value for the money!

I was drawn here because of the good margarita claims. It was a nice night out and my group and I wanted outdoor seating as well and this place fit the criteria. This place is extremely weird and awkward. We went up to the bar and there was a guy singing on guitar with about 10 children under the age of 7 dancing and having a ball. This was really awkward but made for a good laugh. We left the bar area and sat outside. Our waitress had practically no teeth in her head but she was really nice. The margaritas were not that good and not too cheap either, maybe they were having an off night but they looked alluring but tasted like watered down lime juice. I ordered the peach frozen margarita for my second drink and it just tasted like a pink snow cone. It was surprising when we discovered they were $9 a piece. We ordered the nachos and they were okay but nothing special, I've had better. Will I go here again? Probably not. If you enjoy a trashy/dive-y atmosphere with drunk people yelling outside and children dancing in bars past their bedtimes then this place is for you.

When we went it wasn't too busy. It was fairly quiet and the food was prompt. I got their nachos, they were fantastic. My boyfriend got the buffalo chicken wrap and loved it. We both got margaritas also. I read most of the reviews and a lot said strong margaritas so I was sold. I don't know if it was because we got the slushy kind or if was just the night but ours weren't very strong. The portions were HUGE though so after 2 I was finally feeling a little something. I'll totally go back and try them again their food was great!

Drive on by... 1st of all Service was extremely casual, "hey guys, what do you want" - we asked for waters, she brought one to the table, when we asked for another, she never brought it! The chips were stale. The Sangria was flat. The cheese dip was luke warm at best - some frozen spots. The rice and beans was stale and burnt.

This is the best TexMex place in the North-East. This isn't up for debate. The Margaritas are excellent, service has been universally great every time we've visited and all the menu items are delicious!

The Alamo is one of the better restaurants in the area. Ok, so, the atmosphere is crazy and kind of dumpy but the food is great! Everything is made from scratch (dinner wise) unlike Acapulco's up the street, and the service is hit or miss. Order the top shelf margarita NOT the Alamo 'Rita. Sangria is gross. Never had a bad meal here.

The Alamo, i.e.: I'll likely remember it, but it's definitely not where i'd like to make my last meal stand. I've gone here a few times and each time was more disappointing than the last. I decided to try the place again since a few of my friends were interested in going. Must have been a good 3 years since the last time i've gone here and it was still disappointing. I went in with positive expectations that since it's been 3 years and the place seems to be pretty packed every time i pass by that things must have improved. Wrong!!! The place looks like a quaint 2 floor ranch-house but that is about where the good things stop. The server was a bit enigmatic as she was around a lot in the beginning, but once the food hit the table we didn't see her again until we were done and wanted the check. The first time i went here i had chicken fajitas, and the seasoning they used made it taste pretty funky. The second time i had cheese enchiladas which also had something in it that created a funky taste. I say funky because i couldn't tell what it tasted like, its that bad. This time around i was really unsure what i wanted, but the server made mention of a special of the day which usually means (at least in my mind) that its the Chef being creative to make something really good. Instead it was more like a creative garbage special to use things they don't know what else to do with and just serve it without trying it themselves first. The special was a steak and cheese wrap with fajita onions and peppers and a side of Rice or beans, i got the rice. Oh and the cheese was their own queso that they make. Firstly the rice had that same funky taste i had with the fajitas the first time and this made the rice inedible. The wrap itself was busting at the seems, not because it was overstuffed, but rather it was poorly wrapped. The steak was not shredded or cut up and it was very tough. You know, like you go to take a bite out of it and half the wrap/sub comes right out with it because its too tough to actually bite thru. That and the steak tasted like it was a day old and reheated. Supposedly there was cheese, or should i say queso but it was more like runny butter than cheese of any sort. Definitely a bad meal, but a funny experience since the 3 other people were just as unhappy with their meal as i was with mine so a lot of jokes were thrown around.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
