Have been here on many occasions. I always leave more full then I'd like to be because the food is so good. Service can be inconsistent. On their biggest day of the year cinco de mayo had the worst service, but typically never that bad. I always get the empanadas, they are so darn delicious!! Can't go wrong with any drink really. I don't love how they pour cheese on a lot of their dishes, if you are intolerant to cheese I would ask how much is included in your plate. Need a margarita and in the south shore? Stop here!

I half expected it to look like its former occupant inside (Chili's) so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it indeed looked updated albeit sort of tired inside (the floors looked a bit dingy and the whole place was a bit dark.) A friendly hostess greeted me and I made a beeline for the ladies room as I had just come from work. The toilet handle was broken and there was cleaning product in the bowl (which I didn't notice til after.) Overall, I thought the ladies room looked a bit neglected but wasn't disgusting by any means. Though I passed on the table side guacamole because my fellow diner doesn't eat it, it sounded like a pretty meticulous and involved preparation as the table next to us was getting it. The chips and salsa were solid and I liked the personal salsa - double dippers rejoice! I went with the taco salad with chicken. It was decent. The beans made it a bit wet but it was well seasoned and I was adequately full after eating most of it. Overall, a step up from its predecessor but I'm still on the hunt for an authentic Mexican restaurant that's going to "wow" me.

The food is very, very good, especially for the price range. They make the guac right at your table with all fresh ingredients and the salsa has a pleasant bite without being too spicy. I had the enchiladas suizas, which were delicious. I was a bit disappointed though, the crema and cheese on top of my enchiladas and refried beans was hardened, like the food had sat under a heat lamp for a while. It was a week night and the restaurant wasn't busy so it seemed particularly odd. The margaritas are a bit pricier comparatively, but very strong. Not the best I've ever had, but certainly fun for a girls night. Service on the other hand was pretty mediocre. Everyone was friendly but completely inattentive. I sat at the bar for 10 minutes before I had to wave a bartender over to give me a menu. There were two bartenders working and only 4 other patrons sitting at the bar. My drink and water also sat empty without anyone offering a refill unless I flagged someone down again and asked. They were nice though, just a little spacey. Added bonus: live music--at least on the Thursday night I was there. The musician was an acoustic cover artist.

First time and will be going back again. We went on Saturday night (7:40) and was seated promptly at a booth. Chips and salsa were delivered immediately. We tried the table side guacamole and were very happy with the quality and quantity. Tia our server was very nice and suggested some dishes for my husband, who has a hate relationship with onions. My daughter and I ordered the fajitas and they were perfect and the hubby got a chicken burrito dish that he loved. We will be back and will request a table with Tia as our server!!

The food was delicious. I am from out of state and our family loves Mexican food. I had the Bollywood burrito and it was huge. My only complaint was the service. It was not busy and I sat at the bar. The bartender was busy but her help stayed at the other end of the bar. After sitting 5 mins right in front of her she gave me a menu. I sat another 10 minutes without being offered a drink or chips and salsa. She got into an argument with one of the waiters about being out if tequila. The manager came over to get the situation under control. I got up and sat in the dining area. I told the hostess my situation and I was seated in the new hire's section. He was a nice guy, but my water did not get refilled and he was on the other side of the partition from me and was talking about how many times he has been to Mexico. Food was good enough to overcome the bad service.

A great place to grab some food and drinks at the bar. I love how the restaurant side and the bar are very separated. Their giant beergarita is definitely my favorite. The quacamole is literally the best I've had, and the fact they make it in front of you lets you know it's very fresh. The music selection is great, and they even have live acoustic cover artists certain nights of the week. Not your typical spanish music blasting in the background.

Oh, are you kidding me?! No. I was afraid you'd say that. Okay, first. I give a star for the guacamole cart. Good stuff. It turned out to be the only thing I ate. And it was good. I ordered tacos. It's simple. It's a Mexican restaurant. If you can't get that right, please step aside. The taco shells were burnt. Burnt. Not just browned a little too much, burnt. All I could taste was burnt and bitter corn tortilla. And do you know what they use for onions? Durkee fried onions. That's great. I love Durkee onions. IF IT'S THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!! Stop it! Put that Durkee canister down, and have your guys do some prep work in the kitchen, come ON! To their credit, the server was nice. The manager came to the table to apologize after I sent my plate back, as he agreed, the shells ruined the meal. I didn't want anything else. He was willing to comp me a meal, but I was really hoping for good Mexican food, and I knew it wasn't going to happen. Seriously, credit to the staff. My boyfriend had a seafood dish. Well, okay. That's safe. It wasn't very Mexican, but it's safe. You have to have something on the menu that this region is familiar with. It was okay, but the specialty isn't seafood. It's supposed to be Mexican food. There are no good, really authentic Mexican restaurants in this region. Nope. Don't talk to me about El Sarape. Been there. It's good food, but not real good authentic Mexican food. They too have morphed their menu to cater to the tastes of the Boston region. Sorry, there's no maple tress in Mexico producing maple syrup. I want Mexican food. Not going back.

If you don't eat anything else at this restaurant, you MUST try their Guacamole Dip ! I never even liked Guacamole until I had it here. Made table side is fantastic! We often will swing by after a long week and just get Take-Out INCLUDING their famous Dip. Even the kids love it. We just don't tell them it's a vegetable.... Fabulous ambience and great servers.

Refried beans were the highlight of my meal. Ordered the pollo mole. Decent. I really liked the boneless chicken, fresh and moist. But the mole sauce itself wasn't as tasty as I thought it would be. On the bland side. The entree was supposed to come with black beans, rice and fried plantains. I asked if I could substitute the rice for something else. I don't think the hostess understood what I was asking. She asked what would I like, so i asked what were the options: "White Rice, black beans, refried beans...um okay. So I asked for the refried beans...obviously..Meal never came with the regular bean. Oh well. Some other time. I will go back to try something else, if not just to go back for the refried beans, really liked them.

This place serves the best Mexican food we have ever eaten. Great atmosphere and friendly service with great prices. I usually don't finish a large meal without taking a doggie bag but I ordered the Burrito Philly and finished the whole meal. It was so good.

We finally decided to check out Plaza Azteca a few weeks ago. It seemed as if the place was always busy as evident by the number of cars always in the parking lot. We came on a Saturday night and we were quickly seated ... in the corner. That's right, we were literally wedged in the corner. The hostess paid us no attention when we said that we would have liked to move tables. But oh well. We quickly attempted to sit down which is when we realized the Gothic-esque chairs were heavier than sin. It took us a solid two minutes to finally get settled. The chips and salsa are complimentary and quite good. We opted for nachos, which in hindsight, was a bit of overkill since it's possible to overdose on the complimentary chips. The nachos were rather bland and weren't worth the cost, or the calories. I ordered the enchiladas suiza and overall, it was pretty disappointing. There was virtually no flavor to the dish. The chicken was rather bland and it was doused with cheese and mediocre salsa. Overall, we were pretty disappointed with the entire experience. The service was hit or miss and the food wasn't that great. We will continue to go to El Sarape up the road.

First off, the food was good. Not the best but, good. That said, the employees are miserable. I have been here twice and both times I got a male waiter, two different ones and they seemed to hate their jobs. I waited to be seated as there was no hostess or anyone paying attention. My waiter seemed bothered when I decided to come find him instead of waiting there all day. He sat us with a sigh, brought us chips, salsa, drinks then we didnt see him forever. We finally placed the order and got our meal and never saw the waiter again until he gave us our bill then when he went to take the bill, he got called by another employee and never came back again. Once again I had to take matters into my own hands and hunt him down to pay and got another sigh. I feel like they don't want people to eat there.rude

Went there last night to celebrate a friends birthday. Well, my first complain goes to the waitress. Danny Boy... Have to keep ask for more napkins because the bring the drink, and make a mess on our table. Never clean after!!! Rude rude rude, when I ask for more napkins. Them I request to bring a piece cake for my friend, they never even offer me a dessert. At the end,I was frustate with the service. No tip at all. I only tip whem I got a good service. And I will never go back there again!!!

My family and I just had an amazing experience at this restaurant. It's always touch and go dining with our 5 year old and 20 month old, but we took a chance while out shopping in Hingham. We were quickly seated and given chips and salsa. Super yummy! The waitress was attentive and took our drink orders: two margarita specials with a nip of patron, huge and delicious! The waitress recommended table side guacamole and WOW! Delicious. Because we had the kids we only ordered apps and a kids meal of chicken fingers and fries, taquitos and empanadas- shredded chicken and shredded beef, perfectly seasoned. The hubby and I will definitely be back on our own for a real meal. The waitress even engaged our kids and the manager stopped by to see if we were enjoying ourselves. Great experience.

This is a typical New England Mexican restaurant (not very good). They do have good guacamole - they prepare it at the table. We ordered a fajita for two. It came with chicken, beef and shrimp. There was nothing good about it. The food was put on a skillet with no placement at all. The skillet was not hot and it was not sizzling. It tasted like left over food.

My experience was excellent at Plaza Azteca. The food was prepared fresh and was hearty and tasty. It's a bit expensive for Mexican food, so not an everyday place to go, but the quality was good and I'd go again. It is super busy so I haven't been back because the couple times I went there was over an hour wait, so we went elsewhere. Maybe call ahead to check on how busy they are. The tortilla soup was excellent My chirizo burrito was good but not as good as I expected. The staff was friendly and helpful and seems as though a portion came from the previous Chili's. They had a good idea on the food but were not that well versed in it, so training could be improved, but nothing that should deter anyone from going.

Best Mexican food on the South Shore! If you're looking for real, authentic Mexican food then go to Plaza Azteca! The drinks are strong, and the food is amazing. They have an option where you can build your own margarita, which is awesome. You pick the tequila, the flavor, how it's served, and other kinds of add-ons. Try the specials, they're awesome!

Amazing Authentic Mexican food! The atmosphere is fun and inviting. A perfect place to bring a first date or a fun night out for the family. They offer a tableside Guacamole bar that is a must! It is custom made to your liking. The Fiajtas were incredible .I enjoyed a pineapple filled with a spicy Fiajta filling one of their specialties. Large dining area with a trendy bar side too.I believe they were having karaoke on the bar side tonight. The staff was all very friendly.Shawna was our server and she helped with recommendation where the menu is quite large.I felt like I was in Cozumel and enjoyed my whole evening.Oh and the Margaritas Fabulous!!

The old Chili's gets a make over, and the decor does look very nice. Fresh tortilla's and homemade salsa is a great start, very nice, plus, there's guacamole available made table side, also very nice. As for the food, so-so, the empanada's need some help, they were over cooked and a little on the dry side, the shredded beef filling was ok bit there wasn't much of it. Chicken burrito was ok, not enough chicken in the filling and sad to say it was not served with any kind of side like refried beans, black beans and rice, salad etc (although the burrito had all that in it hence no room for the chicken i guess) The chicken fajita's were very nice, very fresh tortillas and plenty of peppers onions and mushrooms. All in all ok, nothing special, i'll try it again, but not on par with Papagayo or Border Cafe, yet.... Service was very good, the location is convenient, parking is ample and prices are reasonable.

Huge fan of the food and atmosphere! The food is very authentic and when I'm there I feel like I'm back in Mexico! Fresh guacamole is awesome!! I haven't had one bad thing there. The 34 OZ beers are pretty good too!!

A rare place in New England where tortillas are homemade. I am a Mexican food fanatic and this place is great for what it is -- a fun, suburban chain with attention to both the menu and experience. It is not a taqueria the adventurous, it is a place where you can bring your grandma who doesn't like Mexican food, as your hispter aficionado cousin who is hard to impress, and everyone will leave happy. Definitely checkout the table-side Guacamole, and go traditional on the Margaritas (although if you're into it, they have every imaginable Margarita variation).

The place was great when it first opened but now it's starting to suck. For example, during my last 3 visits, in addition to a decline in the quality of the food the salsa seems like it's getting watered down. They're also charging an additional 1.25 for ice when you order top shelf liquor on the rocks. Every bartender I've been served by was miserable. In the past, this was the place I would bring clients for business, refer them for dinner and the take office for happy hour. It's no longer worth it, I will no longer recommend it.

I visited today for the first time with two other friends. We immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. There was a wait but there was a great bar area and the manager serving chips and salsa to waiting guests. This is just A+ customer service. We got two raspberry mojitos at the bar, which were delicious but not strong enough for how expensive they were ($9). The staff looked slightly frazzled but in a good way since the place was packed. We were seated and given chips and salsa before we even had our menus. Then the biggest mistake of the night happened- we ordered GAUC. They make it sound complimentary and there is NO PRICE on the menu. The gauc guy gives you a show and you're supposed to tip him, later on the bill you also pay $9 for it. There is no way that guac is worth $9. Overall, great service (except sometimes it sounds like they're trying to sell you something at the flea market), great atmosphere, good food, but not worth $9 for GUAC.

Warm chips, spicy, flavorful salsa = excellent start to the meal. The only problem is not hoovering so much that you don't have room for your meal. Add on top of that - the tableside prepared quac, as delicious as everyone says, and it makes it tough to show restraint. The interior is really lovely (and decevingly huge), big, roomy comfy booths. The one negative was the service. While our waiter was very nice, he would dissapear for long periods of time, and was not particularly attentive or helpful when it came to explaining items on the menu. That being said - the food was delicious and the prices very reasonable. Also a huge shout out to the skinny margarita.. Soooo yummy and fresh. I will absolutely be back - I would return for a chips/salsa/quac/margarita only meal!

I visited on a rainy Saturday night with a friend and we had a really fantastic time. The atmosphere is interesting-the tables are set up with a lot of walls and almost tunnel-like seating with candles lining the walls. The table-side guacamole, as many others have mentioned was the best part of the experience. I ordered the sangria which was fairly inexpensive, large and delicious. We ordered the Bollywood Burrito-a veggie burrito that was delicious with very fresh ingredients and the Quesadilla Veracruzana, a chicken quesadilla that came with rice and pico de gallo and sour cream. Both were great! The chips were warm and the salsa was fresh with some heat to it. The prices are very reasonable, the service was efficient and quick and the food was ready very fast. I had a really pleasurable experience and will definitely go back!

This Mexican spot is good, but it's certainly not the best. I'll start with the pros, and move on to the cons. It's more authentic than most Mexican restaurants you try, and I especially love their homemade guacamole that they prepare in front of you. Their margaritas are perfect, and recently I tried their beer-o-rita that was delicious as well. It's never been dirty, and the servers are extremely nice, accommodating, and prompt. I'll preface the cons by saying that at least each time I come here it's been better than the last, so keep reading until the end. I came here the first time when they had just opened and perhaps they were still trying to find their groove because my standard burrito was very bland and left me nibbling on the chips and salsa instead. This is a personal preference, but the burrito didn't include a side, like rice, and it may have added to the burrito if it wasn't alone on the plate. I gave it another try and ordered the steak fajitas since I figured you can't go wrong, right? Wrong. The meat was chewy and reminded me of the beef-on-a-stick you find at Chinese restaurants for 4x the price. The past couple of times I have tried the flag enchiladas and I actually managed to thoroughly enjoy them! Perhaps its the variety of enchiladas they served on one plate, but they were absolutely delicious and left enough for leftovers the next day too! Clearly, I've continued to come here considering I rated it as 3 stars, but mainly its because a.) it's the closest Mexican we can get and b.) now I really just like those darn enchiladas! I'll continue to branch out and try other items, and hopefully my experiences will only keep getting better.

My first visit I sat at the bar and ordered the chicken fajitas. Price, quality and portion size very good. Tonight I went (about 5 months since first visit) I ordered the chicken fajita burritos (2). Price and quality were good. Portions, very, very skimpy. Came with choice of rice or beans, I went with the beans. There was barely more than a tablespoon spread on the plate in a single layer to look like more... Really? Menu stated burritos "stuffed" with grilled chicken (or steak) peppers and onions. NOT! If there was 3 ounces of chicken between the two of them I'd be astonished and the onions and peppers were nearly non existent. So essentially, the tortillas had very little "stuffing". Someone next to me ordered the same thing but opted for the rice in favor if the beans. The rice looked like it came out of a muffin tin. Same size, same shape, probably some type of ice cream scoop of sort. Again, the quality of my meal was very good but left me unfulfilled. Best part of the visit was they only charged me for one of my two beers... Having left hungry, I considered it a gift and didn't bring the error to their attention. Yes, I'll go back again but for the fajitas and not the burritos.

I guess I judge Mexican restaurants by 2 things: margaritas and fajitas. The fajitas were good - as usual the vegetables were mostly onions but that's par for the course. They were still good. The margaritas? Meh. That's the best I can offer. Also, my kids didn't like the chips. I'd probably go back and just order beers. They did have a big menu with a bunch of options for kids too. That's a plus.

Me and my cousin went here the other night and it was fantastic. There was one thing I didn't like and I will get to that later. When we were seated, we had a very friendly server. We ordered and received our food in a surprisingly timely fashion. The food was great. I had sliders as an appetizer and the San Jose burrito. Both dishes were great and the food was filling. Our server regularly returned to check on us, which is something that you don't see every day. We left happy. The one thing I mentioned before: we were told a 15 minute wait. We were fine with that. What upset me is the fact that many people came in after us and we're seated before us. A family of 4 came in and we're given a 45 minute wait and they were seated before us. Also, the host stand was being staffed by kids. They couldn't have been older than 16. You just can't entrust a job of that importance to kids.

Bad service and flavorless low quality food with okay prices makes me wish I had gone to chipotle. My "Mexico Burrito" consisted of two whole onions lightly sauteed wrapped up with the remnants of a flat tire for meat. My gf had a better time with it, ordering the ranchera, though most of the meat on her plate was just gristle. We were completely underwhelmed and just wanted to leave as soon as we could.

Food was good but service was terrible. I went with my boyfriend and we were the only people in the restaurant and waited over 1/2 hour until my boyfriend had to get up and find an employee to take our order while there were about 6 employees standing around doing nothing. I will never come back here again.

Thank YOU, Plaza Azteca! Thank you for coming to Hingham where Mexican food is abysmal. Thank you for your delicious enchiladas and guacamole. Thank you for not serving your dishes under a thick coating of cheap cheddar cheese. Thank you for being the newest/best Mexican spot off Rt 3 South of Boston from Weymouth to Plymouth. Thank you for giving me a reason to live come lunch time. PASS ps - I normally don't address other writer's reviews but the negative reviews are so off base it's laughable. -So, if someone comes to a busy new restaurant the first Saturday night they are open and the place is 1) busy and 2) disorganized what exactly do you expect? -A place for 'gringos' well, yes, so is EVERY MEXICAN PLACE that isn't a little taco spot in Brockton or New Bedford. Do you get chinese food and say, 'these crab rangoon aren't authentic'? Here I had very flavorful dishes and a modest spice kick. -If you go to Salsa's, Margarita's, Cancun, Sam Diego, La Paloma, or even Moe's time to step it up and come here.

Overall underwhelmed. The chips and guacamole were excellent. That's the only good thing I have to say about the food. Entrees were characterized by tons of sauce, cheese, cream, leaving it a treasure hunt to discover what you're actually eating. The food seemed homogenous with no distinctive flavors from dish to dish. Specialty drinks were hit or miss. Service was spotty, but it was a very busy Saturday evening, so kind of understandable. Bathrooms were apparently out of order. Eventually they got the women's room working and ushered in groups of men and women who had been lined up for a while.

LOVED IT HERE!! We went here for lunch during the week! It was the perfect time to go! The place wasn't that busy. We were seated right away and had a fantastic waiter. We had tableside guacamole and it was excellent as were the chips and salsa!! I had lunch size chicken fajitas ans they were the perfect size! Everything was fantastic. I cannot wait to go back here. The ambiance was nice and the restaurant is tastefully decorated!!

Visit number two, a work event. The waitress couldn't hang out with us enough in the first 20 minutes, as we ordered drinks, and after they were delivered, she disappeared. It took us 45 minutes to retrieve her to order food, and another hour for the food to appear. The guacamole was mostly made from unripe chopped avocado and god knows what else. My enchilada mole was gummy and tasteless, no heat, no chocolate note, appeared to have come out of a can, carelessly presented. No real connection whatsoever to real Mexican food, it's just awful canned/microwaved awfulness. Avoid.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Plaza Azteca tonight, and our waitress was a TRIP. A complete hot mess-- she took over 25 minutes to bring my glass of sangria over to the table. On her way over, we heard a loud crash from another part of the restaurant, and she immediately rushed over saying that she'd bring me another glass. Even though she was able to sell us on the 8.99 table-side guacamole, we never received it (and were luckily not charged). Waitress and wait-time aside, the food isn't too bad. My baja fish tacos were slightly overdone and under-seasoned, but the creamed corn pulled the dish together. My boyfriend enjoyed his carnitas dish, and we both found the house-made tortillas to be the best part of the meal. On our way out, our waitress pressed us to return for Cheesecake Factory dessert and Cinco de Mayo, but I'm not sure we'll take her up on that offer...

I had a rare saturday afternoon free so decided to try Plaza Azteca for some lunch and drinks. We sat at the high top tables in the bar and although there were other people there, it was certainly not busy. Over 20 minute wait to order drinks, then another 10 or so to get them. The margaritas were par at best, and extremely weak and overpriced. The best part of this place was the pleasant and prompt tableside guacamole cart. Three times we tried to order the jumbo margarita, only to be turned down with a very illegible response. Even when I repeated the question en espanol, I was told, no we dont have, but every other table had a jumbo margarita glass on it, soooooooo, not sure what gives????? The food was also par at best, and certainly NOT authentic mexican and btw, was extremely overpriced. Lunch and a few drinks, equaled $106 for two people!!!!! When attempting to cash out we were forcibly harassed by the server to fill out a comment card....... in his favor. I was very turned off and doubt I will ever return.

My husband and I have been here twice for lunch. We are major Mexican food fans and are always on the lookout for places to try. This is the best one on the South Shore! The chips and salsa are yummy. The margaritas are fresh tasting, the food portions are just right and delicious. My only criticism is I wish they would avoid the Cheesecake Factory desserts they serve. I am not a major fan of them because they all taste the same after being refrigerated for awhile. Stick to the flan to round off your meal.

Came in for a drink and a meal at the bar! It was a good decision! The bartenders were social and friendly - they made me two terrific drinks (Coco margarita and Cancun coconut martini). It was great and they appreciated my input on the drinks. They brought me chips and salsa, then I ordered the Guerrero combo (taco and burrito). The taco and burrito were great; the rice was good; the refrained beans were ok (my only real complaint). Everything was great and will not prevent me from returning. My parents had gone and week ago and my father (who is incredibly critical), like fit a lot. So, i took his advice! Thank you to Bri and Susan, my bartenders!

I don't understand why people are hating on Plaza Azteca! I have been here about 3-4 times now and each experience the food and service has been great in comparison to other so called Mexican/Tex Mex chains around MA. Its definitely not the best Mexican food in the whole wide world but when you just want a good burrito, a margarita, and good service it definitely hits the spot! Appetizers - They automatically give you chips and salsa to start which is a bonus and its actually really good but also order the Queso Fundito - it is delicious and addicting and everyone has practically scraped the skillet by the time our meal comes out. Someone always orders the Corn Soup too and they love it. Dinners - Bollywood, San Jose and the Fajita Burritos are all spot on and huge so bring your appetite! Few people got a different variety of the regular Fajitas and the only complaint one person had was that there peppers were a little under cooked. Other things range from various tacos and quesadillas and there has never been one complaint from anyone at the table. Dessert - Cant even say anything about this because we are always too full to even think about it by the end of the meal. Drinks - Tried a variety of margaritas and wines over the past few times there, cant really say which one is my favorite but they definitely did the trick! Service - Normally efficient and friendly. Always quick to grab us extra sharing plates and sides as we need them. Only one time did we go when it was slammed on a Saturday night did we have to ask someone to grab our server so we could order a few more drinks. Other than that, no complaints. This place is great when you have a hankering for a Mexican feast.

I am a big fan of Mexican Food of course this place has a nice décor and not over pricey.. the food is good but not really Mexican even some of the guys that work there are Latinos... is more Tex Mex... You can't have tacos with Flour tortillas!!!... or a taco salad with fried dough... too bad I was hoping to finally have the real deal, drinks are good and good service...still Sarape is my choice on the south shore...

This is our favorite family restaurant with gluten free options on the South Shore . It is not easy to please our family. My son and I both have a gluten allergy and my husband is vegan. We love our waitress, Sandi. She remembers us every time we come and knows exactly what my son orders with his allergies. The food is good. We love the guacamole they make at the table. My favorite entree is the shrimp tacos. My husband is a fan of their vegetable fajitas.

Awesome restaurant! The red sangria and home made guacamole are delicious! Huge portions plan on leftovers. Great authentic Mexican food. Very nice wait staff as well.

First timer and wow what a great find. Since I'm from California it's not easy finding really authentic Mexican food in Boston! Yummy.

We ventured in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was fairly crowded for the time/location but the service was fast. I think the service itself beyond being fast was okay, but could have been friendlier. Beyond the service, everyone is given a bowl of house made tortilla chips and salsa to start off. We ordered the table side guacamole as our appetizer. The guy who makes the guac is friendly, and fast in his preparation. They use one avocado and then depending on how spicy you want it they add things like jalapeño, onion, cilantro, and tomato. It is very fresh and really good. For entrees my wife had the chicken ranchero quesadilla. It was quite large and easily came home as leftovers. I went with the San Jose Burrito which was a good restaurant style burrito where you need a knife and fork. I would compare it to the factory burrito at Cheesecake Factory. The one thing I did not like is I think the cheese on top was American cheese...did not go well. Overall, I don't know how quick we will be to return to Plaza Azteca. Beyond the house made guacamole, I think we are just as happy with our Chipotle burrito at half the price.

I stopped by just to test the waters. The service at the bar was great, the food was good. No complaints. It's hard to find good Mexican food here in MA (I'm from AZ), the chips and salsa was better than anything you can find at a chain restaurant. I'll be going back for some tacos.

I wish I had something good to write about. I love Mexican food, but this place I've tried a few times now and it keeps getting worse. The food is bland and lacks seasoning! The chips and salsa were fine, but that's about it. I told our waiter I was gluten free and he kept pushing other entrees on me to order after I had made my order and asked for the enchiladas (the ones that are listed in the menu as gluten free). Everything he was recommending had gluten in them! By the third dish, I said what is wrong with this entree? At least I know it's gluten free. This was my third time there and was a very strange experience, so I will not be back unfortunately.

My family of 5 ventured here their first week. We all thought the food was very good. I am from LA, so I know good Mexican, and I would consider this good Mexican. Also, the remodel is gorgeous! Great job Plaza Azteca!

The staff is great now that they have been open a year. They are always friendly and willing to get things just the way you like it even when it is a weird request. I love being able to have authentic Mexican food so close to home. If you haven't tried them yet the table side guacamole is delicious however does fill me up every time!

The place was packed this Saturday night. Sat at the bar and they had four bartenders, but I got the one that seemed overwhelmed. Didn't bring chips and salsa until I asked a third time. She gave them to me after my meal arrived. I think it's odd that my dinner was ready within 10 minutes when the place was jammed. Makes me think it's not very home made. My big disappointment was that they threw the beer bottles in the trash. When I asked why they didn't recycle, the bar tender said they had no room for it. Poor business practice. Increasing the cost of their trash removal, decreasing their profit margin and not helping mother earth.

Really wanted to like this place. It is really pretty on the outside (and IN,) but unfortunately that's just a pretty mask over the mediocre food. We were a quiet couple looking for a nice dinner date. Were seated in the back, in a nice quiet booth. So far, eh, okay. Then We order drinks and the waitress is trying to promote the "tableside guacamole", which we declined, but we did ordered the warm queso. As we get our first drinks, all of a sudden a large party with kids is being brought by us, and seated about 8 feet from us. Greeeeaaaaat. I bit my lip as small children were running back and forth past our booth. The waitress never asked if the seats were okay. I would have loved to move. So our queso comes. It's seriously just warm land o' lakes american cheese. Thats it. Very bland, very boring. Barely tasteful even with a little bite of the (also bland) salsa. There is a birthday party on the other side of booths from us. I down another glass of wine. We placed our food orders and they came literally five minutes later. That should be a red flag right there... NO good food comes out of the kitchen that quick.. Even if the restaurant is DEAD..!! I had cheese enchiladas with the 3 different sauces. To my horror, the cheese inside the enchiladas is the SAME land o' lakes american cheese that they served melted as "queso". Sooooooooo disappointing. The rice, bland. The refried beans, bland. The only (barely) tasty thing on the plate might have been the different sauces; but, alas, I could not tell, because there is not enough of any of them for me to mix with any of the food on the rest of my plate. My boyfriend got the chimichangas. Which, he wasn't thrilled with but ate. I had a bite of the pico de gallo from his plate and it tasted like it was from a can. At least the tomatoes in it were. Far from fresh. For $60 for 2 of us, we will go elsewhere. Like, ANYWHERE elsewhere.

I was excited going in to this place as the location and inside renovation of a former Chili's was quite a surprise. Now I am writing this review as someone who has been to Mexico on four separate trips and eaten at the majority of every Mexican restaurant within a 40 mile radius of Boston. So after sitting down and ordering margaritas and placing our food order.. When the waiter arrived with the drinks I had just started to take my first sip and here the waiter comes back with the entrees.. This told me that the food was precooked and was sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long.. Not my idea of what I expect when I order a meal out.. And this food tasted like heat lamp food.. My Chicken Mole' had a bland sauce and the texture of the chicken had a rubbery chewy consistency.. My Wife's flautas left a lot to be desired as well.. The sides were also disappointing. The only thing that saved this date were the drinks but it's pretty hard to mess up a margarita with top shelf tequila.. Aztecs gets two stars for the drinks and waiter Alberto's attentive attempt to make us feel welcome.. Yelpers spend your money elsewhere this place's goods aren't worth delivering. The complimentary tortilla chips also tasted stale and the salsa having no kick, This should have been an indicator of what was to come.

Plaza Azteca, OK let's start with the name. For years I've gone past the Plaza Azteca's on the East Coast I've seen thinking that they are craft shops that feature Aztec type trinkets and collectables. Per Wikipedia - "More recently plaza has been used to describe a shopping complex, similar to a shopping mall, borrowing its connotations of a center of cultural life." So yeah I was a bit surprised to hear it was actually a restaurant. Stopped in for lunch, decided to sit at the bar. First thing that strikes you is the over the top 'Mexicanization' of the décor. Yeah, yeah I get it. The place is stuffed with faux carvings and old wooden beams and it's all nice but a bit over the top and then you hear it! Rap music playing midday at a pretty good volume in the bar area - was I transported to Cancun Spring Break 2002 or what! Break-out the Lil' Wayne chant "SHOT! SHOT! SHOT" and a few bikinis and I'm there! Bartender was at best too busy doing very little to act like she was there to serve. Ask for menus, ask for silverware, ask for refills, ask for more salsa, ask for chips... Maybe customer service isn't for her, oh well it happens. Look at the lunch menu...'Mexican' restaurant and guess what? No tacos on the lunch menu! Is this possible? The staple of lunch foods in Latin American and a place that bills itself as taking 'pride in serving our guests the most authentic Mexican food' doesn't have tacos on the lunch menu. Pretty much ready to go outside and check the sign at this point. Like having an American lunch spot and forgetting the hamburger. Who dreamed this up? Companion orders shrimp taco off of the dinner menu ($13 for 3 tacos - Ay, caramba) and I order enchiladas. "Shrimp tacos" come out and they're actually chicken. Chicken enchiladas come-out and sure the chicken meat is too salty and marginal effort went into them but the dish was suppose to come with rice and beans but its missing rice. Two chicken enchiladas on a plate and a couple table spoons of beans and no one noticed that 33% of the lunch was missing? No one notices, no one cares. Mention that the kitchen is a bit off of their game and a half-hearted effort to correct it, no "I'll take a couple bucks off your tab," "what would you like me to do to correct it," no "I'll get the manager who is standing around doing very little anyway..." really no effort to set it straighten it out. Pay-up walk out and manager (?) standing at the chatting-up the help says 'have a nice day.' No one seems to care. Over the top décor, rap music ambiance, lack luster service, marginal food, staff that doesn't know the menu, management mailing it in...Unfortunately there is still room on the South Shore for a quality Mexican restaurant.

The interior is nice and the servers and hostesses were friendly. Chips and salsa were tasty. However, the food was VERY, VERY BAD. Extremely salty and lacking flavor. One of the worst Mexican meals I've ever eaten... And that includes cheap chain restaurants... It probably should be just one star, but it's probably fine if you just drink at the bar and have some chips...

We came in for dinner and to say we were very disappointed is an understatement. The tableside quacamole was very good but everything else was horrible. The food and service is greatly lacking in this establishment. We were a party of three that had three requests - hold the cheese on the chimichanga plate, make the chimichanga well done and add a side of pico de gallo to an enchilada plate. Not one of these requests were complicated nor were they honored. There was cheese on the soggy not well done enchilada and there was no side of pico de gallo. Had there been a dairy allergy we certainly would have been in trouble. When the sodas were asked to be refilled, the server actually took the existing sodas from the table and then brought them into her server station to refill - silent refills go along way in the service world and you don't take glasses away to do that, bring fresh soda's to the table. It is evident that absolutely no training has been done with the servers. We had one server walk by our table and actually asked one of the women at our table what was wrong with her foot since she has to wear a medical device. When the question was answered he actually rolled up the leg of his pants and showed us that he cut the tendon in his leg while being thrown through a window while intoxicated a couple years ago. This type of behavior is acceptable in a restaurant? The manager happened to be walking through the dining room so we called him over to discuss our issues with him. We then asked him if the fish they serve is fresh or frozen since we had asked our server and she had no idea what the answer was. He became defensive when asked the question and actually had the audacity to announce that he didn't have to answer the question and doesn't want his staff answering the question but the answer is they use frozen fish and do not to tell anyone that the fish isn't fresh. Can you believe that came from a manager????? The service was horrific, the food bland, tasteless and not at all on par with Rosa Mexicano, Papagallo or Tezmexcal all in the Seaport District of Boston which is about 20 miles from Hingham. My suggestion is take the 20 mile drive to superb Mexican restaurants and keeping driving by this place.

Have to agree with some of the reviews here......great drinks and guacamole. Some of the entrees are pretty good, but very inconsistent. They need to have a better handle on quality control.....many times I have gone dishes were under seasoned (and I don't mean spicy-more like salt/pep) and sort of mushy like they had been sitting around for a while. They def pre prepare many of their dishes.....but for the chips/guacamole/drinks this place is great! Just a gamble on your dinner

Best of the Mexican restaurants around that I've tried! I had the chicken and beef quesadilla and both were good but the chicken one was excellent. They have good red sangria as well! I'm def going to go back.

We sat down; server was adequate and we ate some fantastic guacamole. I thought that we were headed for a good meal and we ordered an appetizer of cevice, then 3 entrees. The cevice was underwhelming, unseasoned and not tossed at all in any acid or citrus juice indicative of cevice. We ate it but only because we were starving. It was crap to be honest. Then the entrees came out shortly thereafter (waay too fast) and that was when we had to draw the line. My beef tacos were greasy tortillas with some overcooked beef plopped in there with nothing else. Looked putrid. My wife's "alleged" steak dish (ordered med rare) was well + and starting to curl up under the gross medley of vegetables that accompanied it. Her aunt's seafood quesadilla looked microwaved there was no color on the tortilla and upon looing inside, we noticed it had almost no seafood inside, but yet instead had some pasta filling (????) in them to give some filler. I advised the server that this was an embarrassment and that there is no way this is the first time they are hearing comments about the food because this is indicative of a much bigger issue. From the staffing issues, management issues and kitchen issues, it's easy to see they are running on fumes as we speak. I just wish i trusted my gut and skipped this place. There are so many better options then this to eat in Hingham, like KFC and Taco Bell to name a few .

The fresh guacamole is simply life changing! We are fortunate enough to live right down the street from this little gem. I am glad the old Chillie's is gone and Plaza Azteca has taken its place. The mexican food is delicious. Last time we were there we got enchiladas, it was very tastey. Depending on the night/where you sit, it can either be quieter or louder. Either way, you'll love the food.

The good: chips, salsa and table side home made guacamole and their rice and beans. The bad: The texas margarita. I mean I drank it, it's booze, c'mon. The ugly: The carne asada. Most gristly piece of meat I've had at a restaurant, or at home, maybe ever. I left 1/2 of it on my side plate... My husband complained the taco entree he ordered was too small, and I agree only relative to the supersize portions you get at other restaurants. I thought they fine... Our friends w/us liked what they got - I'll go back; it's decent for the money and there were other items on the menu I'd like to try...I can actually see myself picking up rice, beans, guac and chips for myself on my way home from work on the nights the hubs is working. I had my left over rice/beans for lunch.... wishing I had more.

I pretty much never buy myself lunch, but I was out this morning and drove by Plaza Azteca and thought that maybe on the way home I'd grab something. I placed the order from my appointment, it was ready in 10 minutes, and it was delicious! I had Flag Enchiladas, 3 different types, beef, cheese, and chicken, all topped with different sauces, rice and refried beans. And they give you a complimentary bag of homemade tortilla chips and salsa. I don't usually eat so much that I'm ready to burst, but I had to, it was that good! Next time, I definitely want to dine in, the place is beautiful and the service I got was excellent, highly recommend! :)

My wife and I have been here twice. The first time was in the afternoon and we only had drinks but the second visit we had food as well. The ambiance is great in this place, a good sized bar area and well decorated. As you walk in they even have a station on the right where you can watch them making tacos. The first visit we checked out the menu and couldn't figure out how to order just a simple taco or enchilada, obviously trying to be chic and trendy gourmet. Our second visit about 2 weeks later we noticed that they had already changed the menu and made it simpler. Service at the bar was very good although there was sometimes a little confusion on who had the service bar and who had the customers at the bar. Margaritas are excellent. They can make them any way you want them The chips were hand made and very good as was the salsa-although I prefer the El Sarape salsa. We ordered Queso Fundido as an appetizer. Chorizo, roasted peppers, onions and melted cheese over taco chips. This was an excellent dish and the size was huge. IT filled my wife so she couldn't even contemplate a main dish. I tried the Durango Combo plate that included a beef enchilada and a beef tamale. PET PEEVE - this is the only Mexican restaurant that I have ever been to that makes you choose between rice and refried beans. Give me a break, I ordered both anyway. The enchilada and tamale were very bland. The refried beans were yellow. Yes,. yellow and quite bland. The rice was bland and yellow as it should be but had no veggies or anything to lend color or additional taste - did I mention they were bland? Really, I wish you could just order a plain taco or a plain anything here but they get way too artsy. I was disappointed in my dinner. Bottom line for me is that I will probably go here for drinks and maybe an appetizer but if I am hungry for dinner then I will go on down the road to El Sarape's

This was our 2nd time back within three weeks. First time the chicken fatijas were delish! This time around i ordered gudalplara which is chkn ques and 2 beef tacos. They gave me all chicken. Which honestly the chicken was gross and stringy.. tasted like canned meat. When i asked the waitress for the brief second she walked by if this was suppose to be beef , she said i selected chicken for you,The waitress also was missing in action. The bus boy ended up noticing i was not happy and brought me a new meal.

Love Mexican and was excited about this place. Arrived later on a Fri Night. Bar packed with a young crowd and it was very loud. Opted for a table in dining area so our party could converse. Margarita was decent, but don't ask for anything "customized" , server couldn't handle that. Chips and salsa decent. However The entrees were weak. Mahi dish was was ruined by some really bad mashed potatos. A very soggy bowl of food. Some of us trying to eat a little healthy yet almost every appetizer is of the fried persuasion. Topping of the night was a visit to the very flooded mens room. Will give a another try but not too hopeful. Bottom line the Tex Mex selections at the old chili's were actually better! (and way more reasonably priced!)

As someone who has been looking for a great Mexican restaurant on the South Shore I was glad to find this one. I went in with my daughter who was 8 months pregnant at the time. We sat at the bar. Very comfy. I asked what kind of tequila they had and was handed their tequila menu. I was in heaven! I did not partake, however, because of the daughter. I ordered the spinach and chicken enchiladas and was amazed. The taste was perfect and it wasn't too big. The rice and beans, refried, I could eat a tub of. I ordered a Dos Equis draft (which I love) and enjoyed my time completely. The second time I went there were 5 of us. Food was fast, hot and fresh. So glad this place opened up.

We went here for lunch at the recommendation of friends. I'm glad we did! The food was delicious; guacamole prepared table side was fresh and perfectly spiced served with tortilla chips. We started with Grande Margaritas which were tasty and large. Ordered two appetizers to try: the Seared Ahi Tuna Tostadas and the Beef & Chicken Flautas. The flautas were good but the Ahi tuna tostadas were out if this world delicious ! I cannot wait to return and dine here again.

Growing up in Texas and with 11 years of experience with Mexican food up here, I went in to this place with very mediocre expectations. When I walked in, they were making the tortillas in view...which is an authentic touch. The host was gracious and seated us right away. I had the carne asada and my girlfriend had the beef fajitas. I can honestly say that it was some of the worst steak I've had at a Mexican food joint. It was just bland, cheap pieces of meat that were chewy instead of tender. I generally like a combination meal, but the combos they provide are pretty lame. Overall we liked the guacamole and the tortillas are the best that I've had up here. The tortillas alone added the second star to the rating that I gave. On the flip side, we did not like our entres at all and the margarita's presentation, taste, and buzz-worthiness were lacking. After tip, our meal was about $90 for the two of us (table side quac, 4 margaritas, 2 entres). Compared to Alcapulco's, Margaritas, and Cancun's...this place didn't even reach the mediocre bench mark that I've come to accept as Mexican food up here. That said, we're pretty desperate for Mexican food, so we're going to give it a 2nd chance. We will not try the steak dishes during our next visit. I will update this review once we do.

It was not a two but not good enough to be a four. This place has potential but they are being cheap in all of the wrong ways. The good: they bring freshly made salsa and chips to your table right away and they were very good. The atmosphere is also really cool. Big drink menu. Prices are good. Service was wonderful. The bad: you either get beans OR rice with your meal. UM WHAT? How cheap is that? Both probably cost 5 cents and theres no reason to not give both. Only two tortillas were included with fajitas. Again, stop being cheap. The poor Guac man (who made great guac) had a tip jar on his travel cart. Are you really paying him that little where we have to tip for the guac as he is making it THEN again on the bill?

Food was good. Servers were extra attentive and nice. However, I am rating this place low because our food came out so fast! I barely had time to look for an entree and our appetizer came out. Then, waited a few moments to order my meal on purpose but our meals still came out like rapid fire! Sorry, but on a friday night after a long week I would like to take it a tad slower. I may try the restaurant again on a busy night just to ensure a less rushed dinner.

My wife made the comment, " This is Mexican food for Gingos" and that says it for me too. It is right down the middle so far as the food. Atmosphere is very nice ,Except, that the noise level was awful on a Sunday evening. Lots of families with small children. I actually got up and walked around to see of there was a kids birthday party going on,nope. It is what it is. nice but not a go- to place for us.

Two couples, Friday night. Very busy but we got in fairly quickly. Service was very attentive, and food came quickly. Chips and salsa - great. Table side guacamole - great. I had fish tacos - ok, but a little soggy. Wife had quesadilla veracruz, which she liked a lot. Can't remember what the other couple ate, but they liked it. Margarita was good, but a little weak, but the wine was good and a healthy pour and the large drafts were, well, large. Unless you want to fill up on beer, go with the small and order two. Overall, a positive experience - we will be back.

I was very excited to try this place, but wasn't incredibly impressed. The ambiance is great, I absolutely loved the decor. We sat in the bar which was gorgeous at high top tables. We started with chips and fresh guacamole which was fresh and delicious. I also got the house margarita which was absolutely perfect and refreshing. I had a burrito for dinner but wasn't too impressed. The sauce seemed to lack seasoning and the rice was also a bit bland. The chips and guacamole along with the margarita were the highlights of the meal. I had such high hopes for this place- a little disappointing.

Plaza Azteca is an eastern seaboard chain with about 40 restaurants from North Carolina to New Hampshire. It suffers the mediocrities of many chains -- cookie cutter menus, boring Mex choices -- but the guacamole almost makes up for all the shortcomings. Made at tableside, it couldn't be fresher. You can specify your spiciness level and pick your ingredients. I now go there and order the guac and a beer and nothing else.

Great place and better than most other Mexican places on south shore. Queso dip and guacamole are the best on the south shore, I think el sarapes chips and salsa are better but plaza azteca is better overall. The meals are excellent and service is good as well. I've been four times and they have gotten better each time.

We emailed Plaza Azteca and told them how awful our meals were and that we ended up with diarrhea all night into the morning. We've heard nothing back from them. Save yourself from getting sick or worse- this place is all in all, disgusting.

My mom and I ate here about two weeks ago, so I know this review is late but better late than never! What a transformation from the old building. It is stunning. Brad was our server, cool laid back and friendly. He gave us time and helped us navigate the menu. Awesome. I had a Bahama Mama, it was tastey and strong enough (which is often times hard to find). The food matched the anticipation. The authenticity was incredible, I felt like I was going to walk out the doors and be in a mexican village. The staff walked around with smiles on their faces. Very pleasant to see. A bonus we experienced was a man, Fransico. He was not our server, but he stopped by our table when our food came out to ask us how everything looked. He asked me questions about my preferences, very enthusiastic and passionate about his work. He even brought me out a special sauce that I LOVED with my fajita. It was such a nice little extra service that he did even on a busy thursday night. Needless to say we loved it and will be back again!

Visited for dinner on Saturday night. We were told the wait was 45 minutes...to be expected at 7 pm on a weekend. It was MUCH quicker! The food was fresh, delicious, and was delivered very quickly! Our waiter was well informed about the menu, answered all of our questions, and was super friendly. The guacamole was great, drinks were good but could have been a little stronger. We enjoyed it and will be back very soon!

Seemed promising but it was not worth the trip. Good server (thanks Brad) but the food wasn't the best. While the Ahi Tuna Ceviche was good, the burrito I got was filled with over cooked chorizo and topped with a poor cheese. The kids meals were just not impressive, but not awful. Very clean however with a nice atmosphere. I'd stick with El Serape if looking for Mexican fare.

After hearing great reviews from family and friends, I couldn't wait to try Plaza Azteca. Six of us arrived early Saturday night and asked how long the wait would be for a party of 11. They said 20 to 30 minutes, so we went to the bar to wait. At this point I was thinking of writing a great review. Drinks were refreshing, fresh tortilla chips were crispy, salsa, not too spicy, and I loved the decor! There was mariachi music playing as we entered, but the bar area had popular music. Mexican music throughout would have added to the atmosphere. After a half hour our beeper went off, but as we started to get up the manager came over and explained the people at the large table decided to have dessert. No problem, time to order more drinks and watch the hockey game. After almost another half hour we were seated and given chips and salsa. The waiter disappeared for a while then returned and asked us if we'd like to order. We asked for menus and the rest of our party ordered drinks. We waited a while, the waiter brought water & the drinks and asked us if we'd like to order food. We asked for the table-side guacamole and said we couldn't order until we got menus. The rolling guacamole cart came and we got the delicious guacamole but we were out of chips. Our server finally came with the menus. We said we needed more chips and asked for the children's menus. He left, came back asked us to order and we said we were still waiting for the children's menus, we asked for them three times. Eventually, we got all of the menus and the waiter took our orders. Fajitas for two was enough to feed three people. The vegetable fajitas were okay, the mushrooms were delicious, but the other veggies could have been sliced smaller, refried beans were just okay, tortillas were warm and soft. Cochinita Pibil was much better than at other local Mexican restaurants. The pork was slow roasted and tender. The burrito was huge! Food was better than most chain restaurants, but the service took this review down a couple of stars. After we complained the manager comped the guacamole, but it didn't make up for the inferior service. Not sure if we'll return to Plaza Azteca.

Great service and food. Unlike most similar places, the beef in the fajitas is actually soft, not chewy. The guacamole is great too.

I really liked Plaza Azteca. The table side made fresh guacamole was awesome! Such a plus for me. The guy who comes by with the cart and makes it does have a tip jar so might want to bring a couple bucks. The enchiladas Suiza (green sauce) were really great. Rice/ beans all great. My daughter got veggie fajitas and the veggies were really fresh. My father-in-law is a freak for mole sauce and he loved it too. I will say, the one thing that really annoyed me is they don't accept reservations on a fri or sat even for a large party. We have 10 ppl and they said we would have to take our chances and they are usually on a wait by then so we are going somewhere else. They should change this policy for large parties (over 6 maybe) I will definitely go back. I love mexican and this area is so lacking in good mexican food :)

Thursday 5/22/14 6pm seated at high top in bar area with Bartended Diego as our server. We ordered 2 Margarita specials of the day and waited and waited for them to arrive along with menus. We immediately asked for the Guacamole and were told by Diego, "Oh, that'll be at least 10 minutes, he just left, and I have to put a ticket in." The Guacamole server was just beside us, we tried to flag him over without success. Had Diego not been so slow with 2 drinks and menus we wouldn't have had to wait. The manager came over and asked how we were, being a first timer, I told him we really wanted to try the Guacamole and he said he'd get him, and he did. So guacamole was made in front of us, tomatoes were running low, we may have got a Tbsp. in ours, asked for more, and the language barrier game was played out and so we had very little. The guacamole was delicious and tip jar is right there for you, and then later an $8.99 charge on your bill, too. We shared a chicken fajita platter with refried beans and rice. Beans were very tasty, rice was extremely dried out, however, the fajitas were delicious. A bit more cheese should be served with them, though. Waited and waited to order 2 more drinks without any water at the table. My friend had a burning in her mouth from the food and so we were very unhappy with Diego's slow slow service. If he can't handle the bar and the tables he's given, then management should give him 1 or the other. We shouldn't have had to ask other servers walking by to get our server. Diego may look authentic, but when I'm dining out I expect attentive service!

Disappointing. No spice to anything, very bland salsa & very bland guacamole. Tortilla soup was good. Nice looking place, waitress was good. To bad.

My husband and I were in the mood for Mexican and we did not feel up for driving to our usual place in Plymouth so we decided to give this a shot. Walking up to the double stained glass doors (beautiful!) we were greeted immediately. We were seated within minutes and we both ordered the margaritas. We liked the idea of the table side fresh guacamole but ultimately ordered the empanadas. They arrived burnt, I ate one but my husband felt they were too overdone, typically served golden in color these were definitely burnt. I had the vegetarian quesadillas, they were just okay, a bit lacking in flavor. My husband had one bite of his San Jose burrito...that was it. It was smothered in their "cheese sauce" which is melted American cheese. We were so disappointed with everything overall that we will likely not be going back for dinner. It might be a cool place for drinks and apps with friends or after work but not a great meal experience...

I am thrilled this place took over the former Chili's location. We needed more casual options in the neighborhood with good food! I've been here twice, and both times ordered the Azteca Salad, because it was that good the first time. Both the chicken and shrimp are well-seasoned and I just get extra salsa for salad dressing. Got a Skinny Margarita and it was delish - I was expecting a nasty crystal light margarita, but there was no indication that it was "Skinny"! My husband got the chicken and beef fajitas and loved them. Service was great both times we went. Cheesecake Factory desserts are sort of random for a Mexican restaurant, but they look delicious when you walk into the restaurant and see them in a case - we haven't had room for dessert, but maybe one of these days we'll head back for just cheesecake and margaritas :)

I know it's only been open a week, but there are some major flaws! Three of us went on a Wednesday night. They have a maharachi (sp?) band; you could not hear a word of what your dining companion was saying. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating, even she stated she hoped not to work on Wednesdays with the band again! The chips and salsa they serve at the beginning of the meal is nice; the chips are warm and the salsa has a little kick to it. The bar was busy, so our drinks were a little slow in coming. Our meal arrived right after our drinks, which was not a deal breaker, but we'd rather have had some time to relax with our drinks (noise notwithstanding). I ordered the chicken chimichangas. Lots of white meat chicken, but no spices at all. They're covered with crema fresca, which also has little taste. The jasmine rice which accompanied it also lacked seasoning. My dining companion had the mole enchiladas, and again there was little taste to the enchiladas, rice, or beans. Friend's son ordered a kiddie combo plate; the got the order wrong the first time, and he never received his rice side or lettuce (they typically don't put lettuce in kid's meals, but he had requested it). I will give this place a couple of months to work out the kinks, but if they don't add more seasoning to their food and tone down the band, I'll stick with El Sarape!

Love this place, I have eaten here a couple of times and I'm working my way through the menu...San Jose Burrito is addictive . Its filled with chorizo and chicken..beans, rice and smothers in cheese. and fresh chopped salsa (pico digallo) Mm! Try the giant beerita , beer in a margarita.... Table side guacamole is awesome. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Food came fast and hot. I have been to the Chili's when it was and they did an awesome job transferring this place. Very upbeat and fun. I will be back again to continue my menu quest. OLAY !

My husband and I ate at Plaza Aztec last night. Really enjoyed the upscale Mexican food. We sat in the bar where there was a fun atmosphere. Felt like the service needs a little work but are looking forward to trying it again and would recommend it.

My husband and I have eaten here twice. They did a good job in dressing up the chilis, with candles and nice booths, very nice and comfy dinning room. The complimentary chips and salsa were great bonus and something to nibble on while you're browsing the menu. I highly recommend the queso fundido! Both times we gotten it, and both times it was the best thing we have ever eaten, I might be addicted! The chicken chimichanga was pretty good, could of used a little more seasoning, but still very tasty. The pico de gallo was fresh and had a little kick to it. Both times I ordered a grande raspberry frozen margarita, they were delicious and seemed pretty strong, both times! The first time I got fajita burritos, you get two small ones, I would of liked them better if it was just one large burrito. The flavors were good though! The Mexican rice is ok, could be a little more seasoned though. All in all plaza azteca is a good place to eat! Again I highly recommend the queso fundido!! :D

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
