My friends from out-of-town love visiting me because they know I will bring them to dinner at Grill Next Door. This is a great place for comfort food. Especially in the colder or grayer weather I love heading over here for their steak bomb mac and cheese or one of their specialty burgers (one of my friends is in heaven eating the breakfast burger, which has a fried egg, bacon and cheese on a hamburger). I almost must mention that I am not a fan of french fries, but I always get a side of their specialty fries because they are SO GOOD. My favorite are the loaded cheddar fries - bacon, sautéed onions, cheese, & scallions + sour cream. You can't beat it. This is the perfect place for beer lovers too - they have an enormous selection of out-of-the-ordinary beers on tap and the menu is categorized by types of beer and gives descriptions of the key-flavor-notes of each to make it easier for you to find something you will enjoy (It's still never easy to choose which beer to get though... because they all sound SO AMAZING!!)

Saw this place on the Phantom Gourmet and had a chance to go today during school vacation. I was really happy with the meal and service. The Breakfast Burger was great and cooked just right. Fries were really good as well. Also had the Buffalo spring rolls which were really good, though could have been a bit spicier. My waitress - I think Jennifer - was very friendly and easy-going. Cute glasses by the way. It was definitely worthy of the trip from Watertown to Haverhill. Thanks. Just wish it was closer. :-) Highly recommend it!

Great food, Brittany and Brian are awesome, and the beer selection is hard to beat! It's never let me down, other than not having the bar open when I came in for a fun and creative breakfast one Sunday morning.

I have been here many times and this past time, unfortunately was not very good. Steak and cheese egg rolls were mostly rolls and not much steak and cheese. Wings were good. Should have stopped at the thanksgiving balls. Those were Very good! Vegetable wrap which I got only because the last time I had it was so good, this time was a BIG disappointment. Cheese wasn't even melted inside, and it was loaded with dried seasoning that was just overpowering. Smoked brisket sandwich was swimming in bbq sauce and was just too overwhelming and rich. Breakfast burger was ok. Egg could have been cooked a bit more. Chicken parm dinner was not very good and the sauce tasted like it was smoked. Not very good. Giant beer selection is a plus. Hope they get back on track soon!

It is great if you are a beer drinker and they have many incentives and kick backs! The food is expensive. The barkeep is friendly but do not expect chatty as they are busy. They are nice though do not get me wrong. I have been there many times but shall not go again. It is expensive. Would go as I have given the family owned business for MANY years...I would say 16 years from when it was just the store and the guy running the place now was young and in a neckbrace and casts. Now, I do not even get a head nod. The kitchen when I would ask for a raw spinach salad with carrots...would not cut off the stems and would toss carrot wedges (sticks) on it and not shop them...yet you pay for full price mind you. It is more of a chill out with friends and drink beer with them. It is costly , parking is tough, the food is not bad but not outstanding and the waits are long.

My rating may have been higher had I gotten something else. The burgers did look really good. But on this visit I got a salad. I ordered the house salad with grilled chicken and ranch. I thought it was OK. I wasn't overwhelmed by the quantity or the quality of the salad. The ranch was not made in house (they didn't claim it to be). So overall it was just an ordinary dining experience and for that I give it three stars. Would go back to try something else.

Great burgers, Thanksgiving Balls are great and the beer selection is top notch. It is, by FAR, the absolutely noisiest restaurant I have ever been in. For that reason alone, I don't recommend it.

A friend brought me here and it was a wonderful surprise! Fantastic beer selection, great scallops, average nachos..I was told first-hand that they do a great burger. Noise was average to low when I was there, but I am told it gets pretty loud. Our waitress (Rebecca?) was wonderful at making insightful beer recommendations - I'm not sure I've ever had someone that helpful in skillfully choosing beer based on my tastes. The atmosphere is fun and pubby, and the open dining area makes it feel friendly and relaxing. My negative is that they didn't have a lager on tap!

Local spot with local fanfare! Looking for an array of delish' beers on tap? How about 36 on tap a couple of ciders and a constant cask selection?? Then this is the place for you! The place is bustling on weekends with locals and passerby folks coming off the Interstate looking for as my brother would say, a good "burger and a beer!" Heavy rotation of local brews and regional beers keeps the Taps on par and the beer as fresh as can be! Confused as to what to drink?? Ask the always pleasant bartenders to serve up a sample to ease your mind of the bountiful choices before you dive in to one of the brews. As always I favor family owned establishments that emphasize on service with a smile, ownership who take their beer and the craft beer experience serious and offer a respectable menu that can stretch your appetite to whatever those suds get you to crave! A favorite of many and the reason this establishment's has earned its fame with locals near or far are the specialty French Fries concoctions they whip up and continue to innovate to please the palette. My favorites to start are the steak and cheese egg rolls that are served with a horseradish mayo or dare I say Thanksgiving Day Balls! Imagine fresh roasted turkey, cranberry stuffing & sweet potatoes rolled together, fried to a golden crisp then topped with turkey gravy! Liked the beer you had as you sat at the bar? Why not go "next door" to the beer store attached to the restaurant and pickup togo beer as you journey on or head to your humble abode! As Plato so eloquently put it "He was a wise man who invented beer." Be sure to check this place out!

Never had a meal I didn't like. Huge variety of unique beers. The place is small and parking is limited, avoid on special holidays or call first. I give it a 5 star for breakfast, 4 star for lunch and diner.

First time there since it was a breakfast place. Everything at our table looked delicious. I should have known being a true italian NOT to order shrimp scampi but I did. What is scampi but GARLIC..... I think the cook forgot the garlic. The garlic bread was butter and cheese. When you eat scampi you want to have people around you think oh my he had scampi....I told the waitress to tell the cook to remember the garlic next time. Next time for me a burger.....Service was excellant................

Went there for breakfast and it was great. Excellent food but they were super short on waitstaff so the wait for things was a little long but it was worth the wait.

This place has lost my business for good! Very very rude, twice I have called to try and place an order for pickup and this second time was the nail in the coffin. Instead of asking me to hold I was told they are way too busy to take an order over the phone. I basically felt like I was in the wrong by calling them. And I will make sure to let everyone I know about my experience

Stopped in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't have high expectations since it seems to primarily a bar. Glad I came. I ordered the Florentine Omelet and it was delicious. Coffee was good and my server Nancy was an absolute dream. My friend got their 2 egg breakfast and he ordered his eggs over light. Usually this is a problem as often at places the eggs come overcooked with a solid white. The cook here did them perfect. We travel the country for work and this is one place I cannot wait to stop at again.

Love this place. Great beer menu, the Thanksgiving balls are a must try. Service is typically very good. Breakfast there is fair at best.

  • Don C.

Beer selection is fresh as they consistently rotate their offerings. Sometimes that works against them when they drop a great brew and replace with something not so great. The food is excellent, but a bit over priced. The scallops appetizer is simply the best I've ever had, but $13 for 4 scallops seems high. Lunch and dinner are usually great, I would pass on breakfast, there are better options.

Great pub food, great atmosphere, great staff, and bartenders! My go to place for a beer and food!

  • Cindi W.

Not bad but not exciting. Both had burgers with specialty fries. They had a variety but nothing outrageous like I heard. Chicken fingers on table next to us looked like the frozen kind you get out of a box. My burger was little on the over done side for medium rare and was a bit dry. I did like the candied bacon topping, but again not quite enough to make me go crazy. Good place for kids and did an ok job for being busy, but we did notice people who came in behind us got both their apps and their dinners before we got anything....might try again if I'm in the area, but wouldn't make a special trip.

This place is great! The wait staff is efficient and friendly and the food is always good! We never wait long to get our meal and when we get take out everything is always ready and nice and hot when we get it home. The Sweet GND Burger is amazing! My only complaint is that the past couple times I have gotten this the bacon has been what I would consider "lazily" candied! I was so sad because that is what makes the burger amazing.

THE BEST BURGER EVER. I had the blue cheese burger with roasted red peppers and it was phenomenal. Truly something to write home about: Dear Mom. What a great burger I had today! The bun was toasty and fresh and covered with sesame seeds. The burger was juicy and loaded with blue cheese and covered with roasted red peppers. Every bite made me truly happy to be alive. The waitress was laid back and friendly and attentive. I had a blueberry beer (just one, mom) and hubby had a kentucky bourbon beer and they were the perfect finishing touch to a perfect dinner. Love, Me

Umm, YUM! We have lived nearby for 3 years and for some reason or another never got around to coming here despite all the amazing things we have heard. I finally today decided we were trying this for lunch and I am SO glad we did. I got the next door burger which was HUGE and cooked to perfection, with the onion rings and a side salad. The side salad was small but I soon realized why when they brought the burger out. I was only able to eat half! My other half got the buffalo chicken mac & cheese linguini which was equally as massive of a serving and so spicy but DELICIOUS! Even he only ate half. We also squeezed in some desserts despite being stuffed . The peanut butter cup was to die for. They have 36 beers on tap (I got the dogfish head 90 min IPA) and they have quite a few custom mixed drinks that sounded delicious. The waitresses were extremely friendly (we had two, because I think one was training) and took the time to recommend some dishes to try in the future. All in all this place was super impressive and I can not wait to come back!

Good for breakfast. But for Dinner....This place is more of a pub with many beers on tap and a cacophony of sound. If this is what you're looking than this is the place.

  • Marti S.

Overall still very happy with breakfast, but they've updated their home fries recipe, and it's just not as delicious. This really bums me out because that's the piece that made these breakfasts the best in Haverhill.

This pub has the best selection of beer in the area, and people who know beer running it. My wife and I are semi-regulars, and the bartenders know us and what we like. Brian is an IPA lover like me, and always has a suggestion when a new beer comes in. The menu is a little heavy on high-alcohol beers for my taste ( i have to drive, after all), but there are always enough lower alcohol beers to satisfy me. The atmosphere is always convivial if a little crowded, and we've struck up conversations with many patrons. The food---well it's a pub, so the burgers and other pub-type food are great, but I've been disappointed when venturing into fancier dishes. Desserts are very good.

I didn't realize it had been so long since I rated The Grill. The food menu has changed and expanded, and I really think they shine now. I'm smitten for the lobster mac, and the barbecue chicken fries are a guilty pleasure. I definitely recommend trying the Thanksgiving Day Balls - sound odd but they are an absolute go-to. Of course the beer selection never fails to make the meal for my husband, so I'm usually the DD...I really appreciate that they offer beer suggestions to go with your meal. The Grill has earned a permanent spot on our frequent flyer card!

Dirty place. Slime on the faux hardwood floor and flies buzzing all around our booth. Food is microwaved to Defcon 5 levels. I don't trust a restaurant that has a filthy dining room. Grossness

First Time Visit Host Staff: Friendly and fast. Perfection. Nothing more to say because it was perfect. Appetizer: Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls So good and unique, Really enjoyed these. There was a perfect serving size for me and my date. Entree: Breakfast Burger I am a huge fan of eggs on my burgers so I was THRILLED to see they had this as an option! And who can hate bacon on a burger. I ordered my burger Medium Well and it was cooked perfect. Very seldom do you go somewhere, order your burger Medium Well and it actually comes out that way. Totally impressed. Also I loved the fries, they were seriously good. Beer: First things first, the selection! Really great, I am kind of picky when it comes to beers and usually can only find one or two that I would want to try. There were at least five or six that I would try! I was thrilled. I got the Wachusett Strawberry White. It was perfect. You can tell the lines are kept clean here and who can hate on a chilled glass. Overall Experience: LOVE IT. Second Time Visit Host Staff: Not as attentive as the first time, waited a little bit before someone saw us standing there but it was not tragic and did not bother me. Once we were attended to we were asked if we had a preference and we were given options, always nice to know you have a choice. Appetizer: Buffalo Chicken Tenders Really cannot go wrong with these and the GND did not disappoint. Perfect amount of sauce. Also I really liked that there was a good portion of bleu cheese served with these. Entree: Chicken Piccata I was craving pasta really badly and was really happy to see the pasta dishes. I am a huge piccata fan so I thought I would try it. DID NOT DISAPPOINT. So good. and a great portion too. The only complaint I have was that there were a large amount of capers, but that may just be my preference. Beer: I stuck with the Wachusett Strawberry White again, was such a fan the first time that I just stuck with something I knew I liked, but next time (and there absolutely will be a next time) I will try something new. Overall Experience: Will become a regular date spot for sure!

I have been a here a number of times and have always had a decent meal. If you are a beer lover this is the place to come they have a ton of taps on draft and are constantly updating their drinks. The food for the most part is good. The fries are really good and the nachos are awesome. I would recommend the grilled chicken sandwich with honey mustard sauce, it's always delicious.

I took my son and girlfriend to the Grill Next door last night. I was looking forward to a burger and a beer. It was rough day. I ordered the Grill Next Door burger with bacon, my son had the sirloin and his girlfriend the Mac n Cheese. My burger was good and cooked like I asked. Son thought his steak was just meh and no complaints on the Mac n Cheese. However, we were all deeply disappointed with our service. Waitress was inattentive and forgetful. I asked for a side of mayo which never appeared until my son had to flag her down because she never came back to the table. Didn't find her friendly or hospitable. I always ALWAYS leave 20 percent on the entire bill including tax but this time I actually sat and calculated 15 percent on just the meal and drinks. She wasn't even worth that. You know some nights after a rough day you just want to relax and be attended to. Boo to her for capping off a rotten day. Don't plan on rushing back anytime soon. Oh and boy is it loud. Music and tv on at the same time competing against each other. Not a place to relax and enjoy.

Went the other night with my daughter, because I have heard good things about the place. We were very disappointed. We ordered the French fry appetizer with the chees and barbecue sauce. The fries were good other than the chicken meat that was on top. The chicken was tasteless and rubbery. It seemed like it was boiled. My daughter ordered the barbecue chicken breast meal and it was horrible. It was hard to cut and like rubber. Again it seemed like it was boiled and then thrown on the grill to give it those grill marks. It was difficult to cut with a knife. I got the pork burger stuffed with apples. It was dry and tasteless. Waitress was very good, although there was only three tables taken in the place at the time. Overall, a bad experience and will not be going back and I will not be recommending this place to anyone.

We were excited about having a birthday dinner with 10 friends. We made a reservation on Friday at 6:30. - We arrived on time on a cold night. We waited 40 minutes after our arrival in cramped and cold quarters while our table was occupied by folks who had been there for 2 hours. The hostess refused to expedite their leaving. We went else where and will not return. By the way, it was really noisy too.

Really casual, easy-going place to go and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. One of the only breakfast joints around where you can get a bloody mary... plus, they have great home fries! Also, really enjoy their selection of specialty fries... loaded cheddar, chili cheese, gravy fries... the list goes on and you really can't go wrong with whatever you chose, but my personal favorite are the buffalo chicken fries. Really bad for you, I'm sure... but also really delicious.

This place is always hopping on a Friday night and for good reason. They have a huge selection of beer on tap, a good amount of wines, ciders and even some meads. I often have issues with restaurant service, but not here- service is always fast and friendly; they are very attentive. The food is decent and I have never had a bad meal. I really enjoy their salads- add in the chicken or steak and you have a fantastic meal. This is also my go-to Haverhill place for a solid breakfast. The breakfast menu is fairly expansive with pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, omelets, eggs Benedict, breakfast combos. Also, you can't go wrong when you can get a Bloody Mary on a Sunday Morning. They are also good at making sure your coffee is full. I would not necessarily go out of my way to go here- but if you are in the surrounding area (Northern MA/ Southern NH: Andover, Haverhill, Plaistow) Give this place a try.

Very disappointing visit!! Usually the food is pretty good. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it took about 35 minutes to come out. The bun was dense, cold and hard. Burger was more on the raw side. I ordered medium. Fries were good and that is why I put 2 stars. Sad to see this place have inconsistent food. A burger is not very hard to cook and serve within 15 minutes so to wait 35 minutes and get an awful burger is pathetic, especially for a place that is supposed to have great burgers. I probably will not go back.

With 36 craft beers on tap, great drink list with awesome food, it's a local favorite around here. Each week, the beers do change. If you enjoy a beer in the store, more than likely, they'll have it next door at the One Stop for sale. There is a program called around the block. If you're a craft beer drinker, you better get on that. Nearly all my friends are trying to do it! I've been here many times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's a great place to get the group together to catch up and drink different craft beers. Prices for breakfast is on the higher end. Prices are reasonable for lunch and dinner. I enjoy the selection of burgers, and wraps, as there is a large variety. I really like the veggie burger and the breakfast burger. A runny egg in a burger? It's really good! The specialty fries are usually the fan favorite in the group, besides the nachos. The nachos are huge, and easily share-able among a group. Service has always been awesome, as the waitresses know their beers and always on point with service. Normally, when it's someone's birthday, we'll come here as everyone enjoys the drinks and the foods.

Couple of my students came here after the Spartan Race. The staff was very friendly and the environment is very peaceful. They have many beer on tap and honey fermanted alcohol as well. The food was great, I had a taco salad with grilled steak and it was yummy. Price is a little high for Haverhill area but I consider it average if you go out to eat in other cities. Will come back again.

Old, outdated decor with annoying blinking Christmas lights inside. Outside entrance worn and dirty. Ordered a Foundry IPA and came to the table in what looked like a Yankee Candle glass. Not one spec of suds on top. That's no way to pour a pint. From the menu my wife and I selected the seafood trio in a white cream sauce. The dish included an ample selection of seafood but only topped with breadcrumbs and soaked in butter/oil. It really was an oily mess in my plate. Kind of gross. Smashed potatoes were stone cold. My grandson ordered chicken wings and they didn't show up to the table until we were well underway on our meals. Needless to say they were so hot he couldn't eat them. The check with tip for this adventure cost me a little over a hundred bucks. No way is this place worth it. I don't get it.

With 36 beers on tap and burgers that won the best in the state award by FOX25 news, what is not to like about this place. I have been on several occasions and have enjoyed it each time. The rotating beer selection always has something that peaks my interest and the breakfast burger is a personal fave (topped with a fried egg, bacon, & your choice of cheese). Also have had the steak tips, which were just okay, but the scallop risotto is excellent (almost bordering too rich, but it hits a pretty good balance). The next time you a craving a good quality beer and a overly satisfying burger, this is the place to go.

  • Chris C.

This place has delicious burgers and fries. Their beer selection is great, too! I've been here 3 times within a 3 month span, and have to say they're pretty consistent - which is important. I highly recommend the Breakfast Burger - it comes with an egg on top which adds nice flavor. My gf ordered the vegetable wrap and expected a nice mix of vegetables and seasoning for flavor, but the vegetables were very limited and hardly cooked, plus, there wasn't much of any flavor. That was the only poor experience, but everything else (food, drinks, service, etc.) during our 3 visits (thus far) has been great.

  • Julie H.

The brew selection is what draws me to this place but wayyy too expensive. They even offer people to participate in the "around the block" club where you try 36 different beers and you get a free Tshirt.. which is pretty cool.. I have been trying for 2 years and I am only about 6 beers away now. The food is decent. Its what you would expect. I only had one bad experience there when we sat in the dining area rather than the bar... it was WICKED slow! So I sit at the bar now and haven't had a problem since. They always go out of their way to make me a grilled cheese, even though it isn't on the menu. I like it here. Just plan to spend a paycheck

Live right down the street from this place and every time I drive by theres a pack of fat cougar moms in there mid 50's smoking in front of the entrance. In addition the hackling drunk women out front, there's a bar packed of valley burn outs getting hammered in there, because there favorite chinese joint doesn't serve them anymore. The aroma of cigarettes and the lingering echos of drunk heckles is overpowering, the amount of denim and leather worn by the costumers is a crime. It reminds me of a dingy old biker bar in the pleasant valley. It's famous for its great tap selection and horrible, untimely service. But these features are cause and affect of the customers they serve. If they would just kick out the drunks that swarm to every bar anyway, they might actually get some service done right for the customer who matters. Instead they pay full attention to the guy drooling on the bar handing them a fifty for every beer they bring him. In all honesty it's probably just like this because it's next door to the packy lol.

We went here for breakfast. It was busy, so we waited a while but finally got seated. It took a long time to get our food, which was pretty unimpressive. I could have saved time and money and just made the same at home, honestly. The waitstaff seemed uninterested - several of them were having conversations with each other while out waiting on tables and our waitress would drop off drinks or food while looking elsewhere around the restaurant.

Went in a pretty busy Saturday night. Waited about 35 minutes. Well worth the wait. The thanksgiving balls were amazing. Great beer list and the waitresses were so sweet and laid back. We didn't feel rushed at all despite there being a wait. The steak and cheese was fantastic as was my finances burger.

  • Karen S.

The only reason my review is two stars is because the bar has decent service and really great beers. Unfortunately, the rest of the place was like an afterthought, and the wait staff seems to treat it as such. Twice, my boyfriend and I have gone here for breakfast rather than our usual beer and burger or salad at the bar. We're done with the restaurant area of this place. The older waitress we had, both times, was what ruined it for us. The first time, we found her to be quite rude, and this past time we waited 15 minutes for service and then finally left after she looked over several times but didn't even ask us if we wanted coffee. Also, when you serve breakfast, it would be great to have homemade home fries. The frozen variety that hotels serve with their "free" breakfasts don't belong here. The rest of the breakfast was pretty good (not great) the first time we went, but we were really surprised by these "home" fries.

I really like this place. Have only been for dinner/drinks and have gone back a few times. I'm not really a "beer" person (i know, i know). I really like their pomegranate martini. I always try to order something different, but I love the honey mustard grilled chicken sandwich thingy. It's so good. So, every time we go, I get it! :) Service has been pretty decent, haven't had a bad experience, so i think that's good! My friend Brian works the bar and though I haven't had him wait on me since his prior days at a different restaurant, he's a kick-ass bartender! We have sat at the bar once like the Sunday before Xmas and had a girl bartender who I really like too. It was really dead so she had an advantage, but she was really nice & accommodating. We will continue to frequent here! Mmm now I want that sandwich!

Huge beer selection knocks it up to five stars. Everything we have ever ordered here has been excellent. Always seems quite busy. Interesting menu items, pub fare variations. Awesome wings, pulled pork eggrolls, mac and cheese. There are couple variations of French fries for those without prior coronary conditions. Its essentially a giant plate of fries topped with chicken, cheese, sauce, all sorts of indulgent things. Its kind of the best thing ever. Really. Right off the highway too.

The new Grill Next Door finally opened this week, after many long delays. TGND replaces "Cafe 97" which was a decent breakfast place. RIP the "Hot Dog Omlette" The owners sunk a ton of $ into this space which looks amazing. The bar and the restaurant looks fabulous. Here is the deal. The bar, and the beer are the highlights. I know what the owners are trying to do. A cool bar with tonz of beer taps with decent pub food at decent prices. Unfortunately the food stops short. I had the fried haddock which was a big piece of haddock which was over cooked on the ends and undercooked in the middle. The fries as well as the fish was greasy. Time to change your oil or turn the heat up on the fryalator. Here is the Breakdown: 2 soups, 2 beers and 2 entrees (1 burger, 1 fish fry) was $51. Kind of high for 3 star mediocre food. Please work on the kinks and we will be back to try again. Also, can you build a deck out back?

Pretty disappointing breakfast. Home fries and hash browns NOT homemade. Don't appreciate eating at a restaurant and being served packaged food. Omelette was tasty but made in the world smallest frying pan. Service was good and prompt but the quality lacking. We will not be back.

Took my son and his GF out for dinner Friday night. My son and I ordered the $20 NY sirloin and what a disappointment. Cooked to a perfect MR but for 20 bucks you'd think you'd be served a "choice" sirloin but clearly this was a "select" cut of meat as it was chewy and even a bit of a choir to cut into. I've been here a few times now and I'm noticing more and more with the different things ordered that they seem to be going the cheap route with the food their serving. Chicken fingers and buffalo tenders are clearly frozen as well as their fries, but when your selling chewy low grade sirloin for 20 bucks a plate that's just bad business. With so few "mom and pop" restaurants to choose from today its really disappointing to see this place taking the same route as the chains in selling processed and frozen foods instead quality, homemade food. Their obviously cashing in on the bar and the food is a 2nd thought. Last time I'll be in for sure.

Every time I've been here there's been a decent wait, but well worth it. huge always changing beer selection, great burgers and fries, definitely a favorite for classic comfort food

Turkey tips were ok. Not plentiful enough for 16 dollars though. Beer battered onion rings were flavorful but a tad too heavy on the batter for my personal taste. Fantastic beer selection and warm decor. Friendly staff and a solid menu. Cool swamp/marsh behind the restaurant too.

Wanted to give this 3.5 stars as we had mixed reviews. The fries, chili cheese fries and grilled chicken sandwich were all good. The turkey tips are the best I've had by far. The French Dip was soggy and not flavorful at all. The chicken Alfredo was passable, but the sauce was quite thin. They have a large beer selection, some of which are served in some funky glasses (one had a round bottom and served in a wooden glass holder). There is a limited selection of non-alcoholic drinks, pretty much only soda or lemonade. The service was good, and the wait wasn't too bad. Likelihood of a return visit: 75%

The service here has drastically improved the last three visits I've had, and I visit a lot. It's been excellent. There is a blonde girl with short hair that works (worked? I hope?) there who was absolutely miserable and borderline mean every time I was in there but not having to deal with her made it a vastly better experience. Thats the only reason for 4 stars now instead of 5. The other waitstaff, truly, are great. And there are more of them on than ever before. The food is fantastic fresh pub food. The place has high turnover so food and beer are consistently fresh. And with 30+ beers on tap and always changing you can't go wrong. They do do takeout but only if the kitchen isn't busy so be aware of that. Often you will call for take out and get a curt "we're too busy" response (again, from the distasteful server mentioned above) instead of a good time to call back later. I'm happy with the improvements and we go back consistently now, as we live 2 min away. But I'd drive 30 min to come.

Over cooked under cooked and cooked yesterday...That sums up today's breakfast at the Grill Next Door. "Home made" hash-hardly! The omelette resembled in taste and texture that of a chew toy recently unwrapped by mans best friend on Christmas morning, inside you will find the canned hash and beautifully formed yet not cooked blocks of potato. The hash browns, which was what brought me in, were so fresh they hadn't been cooked prior to being placed on my plate. Freshness need not apply with the "lets heat up this stuff from last night" bacon. Sizzling hot slow death by bacon is what made me shovel a path out to the car, these guys also neglected to call the plow guy today so their hospitality standards are on par with their out of the bag frozen home fries, lazy lazy lazy. I'll tell you what woke me up though, the slightly hungover owner who decided to scream at an employee out back loud enough to shock the dining room to silence, only to be broken by a bartender announcing to the guests that we shouldn't be worried they're only joking. I will say that, though my orange juice was room temperature at best (refrigeration issues??), the rye toast was perfect, so if toast is your thing you win if your looking for anything else besides toast, you lose.

I love coming here for their awesome draft beer selection and yummy burgers. The onion rings are fabulous as well. This place is small and gets busy quickly, but is definitely a local place I would recommend for casual dining.

I went to TGND a few months after they first opened specifically to try the beers and i was quite impressed with the selection and quality. Recently in an effort to explore the local dining scene a friend suggested I try the food at the TGND so off we went. On my first visit I was tempted by the prime rib and decided to give it a go. I asked for a slab that was as rare as they had and was not disappointed. The meat was just as rare as I had hoped. They serve it off the bone which I'm not really a fan of but it was a nice cut with great flavor. I chose the baked potato and broccoli for my sides. The sides were not as hot as I had wanted and the butter I added just kinda sat there, not melting but that wasn't a big deal. On a second visit with The Kid I got the scallops risotto and my son got the Mac-N-Cheese. The risotto came with about 10 small to medium scallops all with a nice sear and the risotto was a little tight but had great flavor with mushrooms and spinach throughout. The Kid's Mac-N-Cheese looked great but was under salted and came with a bread crumb topping which neither of us really care for. But with a shake of salt and a bit of digging under the topping we found this dish to be above average, very creamy. On the second visit The Kid got a slice of cheesecake which was declared "Ok". It's more of a cake-y style while I think he prefers the creamier version. We sat at the bar (when don't we?) and the service was cheerful and prompt. We will definitely return and explore the menu a bit more and to sample some more beers which they take obvious pride in using appropriate glassware and serving techniques.

this place fills up, fast! especially on the weekends. I come here for the beer- the food is decent. I love that they have so many different types of craft beers, as well as a store next door with a huge variety of beers to take home! The servers are pretty good, although I do sometimes get the feeling they are trying to rush you out to make room for the next bunch of people ready to eat.

Breakfast was really good, banana pancakes - I asked if they had real maple syrup and they do, you have to ask for it, though. Went another day for lunch, but not as great. The wrap I got stated it was going to be in a spinach wrap, but it was not. It was in a plain flour tortilla. A few too many onions for me, if they had been cooked more, then I probably would have been ok with it. The side of mac & cheese said on the menu "baked" but really didn't seem like it was baked. There was no cheesy brown crust on top that you get when you bake it. It was ok, not great. Seemed like ground up cheez-its on the top. Not terrible, but I'd like the menu descriptions to match the dishes a little closer.

This is an awesome breakfast place! I had the veggie omelet with hash browns and dry wheat toast. Everything was fresh...the hash browns were a little too greasy for me, but everything else was great....even the coffee was yummy. I would highly recommend this place for breakfast...get there early, the place was packed at 930am on a Saturday.

I used to go for hungover brunch when it was cafe 97! I recently went on a Monday night and was pretty impressed. Got the leinenkugel summer --yum, especially from the draft! our bartender was really attentive and gave us free samples when we requested. we didn't get a meal but the fries were good! It wasn't busy for a Monday night but I can assume it's more crowded on the weekends because of the impressive draft list, they also have mead! I changed locations on the job so I'm five minutes away and I will definitely head down here after work, and I especially want to go on a weekend!

I have to rate my breafast here today as the worst meal I have ever had, and that says a lot.....I am not sure what was worse, the service or the food, it's a toss up. First off, I don't understand how cooks can let food leave the kitchen in such a deplorable state, do they have any pride at all in what they plate? We got very basic meals, 2 eggs over easy with beans, grilled english muffin and an egg sandwich with homefries. You would think you could not mess these items up but I learned today that you certainly can. My eggs came out hard and broken, the beans were stone cold and the state of the english muffin is what really annoyed me.. The cook didn't even have the decency to slice it right, it was sliced with one and a half of the muffin on one side and the remaining rest on the other, nor did he grill or butter it. My daughter's sandwich was flat out gross and inedible, I should have taken a picture. The home fries were large chunks of potatoes with absolutely no flavor and they were cold and dried out. The server also asked us what kind of bread we wanted and then turned around and charged us extra for our selection. Egg sandwich on a bagel is a $1 extra and the english muffin was $1 extra as well. Ice coffe is non-refillable and priced at $3.00, major rip off. Lastly, and most importantly, the table ketchup was rancid. When I told the waitress she got very defensive, telling me all the ketchup is put out in the morning... Thhis is completely false as she gave us "fresh ketchup" from the kitchen and it was fine, so I know the ketchup on the table was bad and left out. over night/all day. We have been here for dinner in the past and I clearly think this place has sub-par cleanliness standards. I would never eat here again, Plain GROSS.

I made a reservation for 10 people on a Friday night (6:30 p.m.). I was told on the phone that they take call-ahead seating requests, but since it was a large group they would do what they could to be set up and ready for us. We arrived a few minutes late with 4 others from our party already seated and the table set up and waiting for the full party. Sadly, after about an hour (we had ordered drinks and appetizers) the final 2 friends canceled, so we placed our dinner orders. Our appetizers were pretty good. We ordered the steak and cheese egg rolls and the chicken fingers (with a sweet and spicy sauce). The steak rolls were okay...could have been cheesier, but good finger food. They came with a horse radish dipping sauce. The chicken fingers were awesome (mostly due to that sauce!!!)...they came with a sweet and spicy sauce that was fantastic! It was some kind of sweet chili sauce that was extremely tasty. I recommend giving it a try. The selection of beer was awesome! One of our group tried a sampler of beer (4 different kinds - you choose); a great way to taste a few you are itching to try without committing to the full size beer until you know if you even like it. Others in our party tried a few different ones. There were also meads (honey-wine) that 2 of us tried. The idea of the variety of beer was the draw; the menu was a nice bonus. A LOT of items to choose from. Most of us had burgers, with one person having a seafood entree. A few of us added the specialty fries to our meal (for $2 extra you could have chili fries, etc.) just to keep sampling the different offerings. My burger was slightly overdone and "okay." It looked fantastic and my (plain) french fries were delicious, but the burger itself wasn't anything to write home about. They were big, I'll give them that! My husband's was slightly undercooked, but he still enjoyed it for the most part. I didn't hear any complaints about anyone's meals, let's put it that way. I've attached a picture of the "breakfast burger" which got raves from our friend who ate it. The service was attentive and friendly. The place was definitely busy, so that was especially appreciated. I'll go again. I think a few of us are dying to sample some of their comfort food (buffalo chicken mac & cheese anyone?).

My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night around 615PM. We waited about 30 minutes for a table, they told us 30 minutes and it was exactly 30 minutes, typical for a Friday night. The restaurant and bar is together in an open big room. We sat down, the waitress quickly came over to the table and took our drink order. Drinks were promptly brought to the table. We had the combo appetizer, consisted of potatoe skins, mozzarella sticks, steak and cheese in a fried egg roll wrapper, and chicken fingers. The appetizer was delicious, the chicken fingers were slightly bland but still pretty good. I also got a salad with bleu cheese dressing, delicious. The drinks are reasonably priced. For my meal I got the pulled pork sandwich, the nice thing about this place is you can pick between 2 bbq sauces, smoky or sweet. I also added a slice of swiss to my sandwich and carmelized onions, absolutely delicious! I got onion rings with it, warm and cripsy, very good. My boyfriend got the buffalo bleu cheese burger, I'm not a big burger person, but it was absolutely amazing, enough that I would even order it myself. He substituted regular fries for cheesy specialty fries, also delicious. The service was awesome, our waitress was personable and attentive to our every need. We will be returning many times. The only complaint is their parking lot is a bit small and parking was difficult, had to park across the street but the food, drinks. and service is definitely 5 stars!

My wife and I go to this place AT LEAST once a month, usually more. Actually it is 1 1/2 miles from home. We are never disappointed when we go. The selection of beers from around the world is better than you can imagine. The food is always terrific and the portions are the right size. They have an appetizer called "Steak & Cheese Egg Rolls." They are exactly as the name implies, however I have never had nor seen anything like them anywhere else! I could eat those for a meal all by themselves. The staff is very friendly and knows us because we are regulars. We are always treated well and the staff is very knowledgeable about the different beers that rotate all the time. I recommend "The Grill" for breakfast (yes, breakfast on the weekend), lunch, and dinner. Get there before 6, it is a small place and it fills up fast for a good reason.

I LOVE THE GRILL NEXT DOOR! The food and the atmosphere is awesome. I eat here at least 3 times a month. However, one Sunday night we got there at 7:55p. The grill closes at 8p but the bar stays open. The hostess told us that if we wanted to eat dinner, we would have to order right then and there and in general her attitude just seemed like she didn't want us to eat there so she could get home. If it were'n for that one incident, I would be rating 5 stars, no doubt.

Can't believe this is the place that used to be Cafe 97. The place looks beautiful. Our waitress was very helpful, beer selection is second to none in Haverhill. Food was very decent. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

A good friend is working in North Andover and invited me to join her for lunch at The Grill Next Door. It's a bit of a drive from Boston, but was worth the trip, not just to see a good friend, but also to enjoy some very nicely prepared classic lunch items in a pleasant and comfortable environment. When we ordered the nachos to share as an appetizer, the waitress asked if we would like to add chicken and/or guacamole. (Many dishes on the menu have add-on options for a dollar or two more, and the waitstaff appears to be trained to solicit ordering these additions.) We elected to add the chicken and add the chicken they did. The nachos, which were a generous platter, came with lots of sour cream, salsa and mucho jalapeños -- and lots and lots of big chunks of tender chicken. My friend wisely ordered the spinach salad, also with added chicken, which incorporated carmelized walnuts and came with a tasty and interesting bacon vinaigrette dressing on the side. I was less judicious and was seduced by the idea of the pulled pork sandwich. Here again, there was the option of adding some creative specialty fried potatos, but I decided to stick with included the basic house fries and apple pecan cole slaw. (Onion rings could be substituted for the basic fries at no additional cost.) All this was washed down with iced coffee which the waitress refilled multiple times. (It being lunch on a work day, I decided that trying something from the extensive micro-brew craft beer list would have to wait for another visit.) I would not hesitate to recommend this place based upon this one experience. The Grill Next Door is a very welcoming and comfortable place which hits that sweet spot between a generic grab-a-bite eatery and a pretentious overly-hyped bistro.

Great beer-on-tap selection; by far one of the best in the area; thoughtfully curated. Note beers can get pricey with some of the higher-end brews (esp. with apropos 12 oz. pours), but the sampling helps, and individual glass pricing is a no-brainer. Barkeeps are quick, helpful and bright. Servers are competent. Kitchen is fairly quick. If you're a beer lover like me, you know how hard it can be to get decent eats to match with good beers at your typical ROTM brew pub. After only a few visits, I can say The Grill Next Door seems to balance both masters well. I've tried the pulled pork and tips - both were well-made and tasty.

This resturant was highly recommended to my fiance and I. Maybe we just went on an off day, but the food was very bland. My fiance pretty much likes every resturant, but even he thought the food had no flavor (we ordered loaded fries/burgers..). Neither of us finished our meals, and we didn't even take our left overs home.. not worth it. We did like the atmosphere though. We won't ever be going back. Again, we have heard good things, so maybe we just went on an off day.

This is one of my favorite spots to have a few cold ones. If you're a beer enthusiast or simply love beer, this is the place for you. Food is always good. If you enjoy burgers, I highly recommend the Broadway Burger. Never have an issue with service or anything like that

Went there for a late lunch today. Had three beers (well two beers, and one repeat). Amazing selection of drafts, from Wurzburger Pilsner (the repeat) to various IPAs, stouts and seasonal brews including hard cider, something for every palate. Food on this occasion was sumptuous, perfectly cooked burger (the Broadway Burger -- bacon cheeseburger w/ peppercorn sauce)) and heaping portion of crispy seasoned fries for under a sawbuck. Win! Staff: Sexy and fun bartender (Brittany ... a slightly chunkier version of Leah Remini, which is meant as a total compliment -- chunkier only b/c Remini is a total stick) who knows her stuff. I saw a comment about staff sampling from behind the bar: I never saw her do it, but did see a person or two wander behind the bar, although there are security cameras(!) in the place. At any rate ... place is maybe a buck or two more than similar type places, and it is much smaller inside than the website indicates. Also, I showed up in dress clothes from a client site visit -- dress code is a bit more casual -- but didn't feel out of place. Despite the prices, the place is a bit on the downscale side, but definitely not a punch-your-way-out kind of place. Great place to day drink, FWIW. Great beer, above average pub grub, attractive bartenders/waitresses and right off I-495 (exit 49, I believe). Can't go wrong, IMHO.

Go here for the beer, and you will leave happy (and possibly drunk). The beer selection is second to none, and you will be hard pressed to find a place similar to it in a 20 mile radius. With that being said, the food is not always the best, but after a few 10% alcohol fued beers, it all tastes the same anyway. I am definitely selling them short in the food department, as the burgers are pretty good, as are the apps and sandwiches. My go to sandwich is the french dip, as you can't go wrong with that. My wife likes the grilled chicken sandwich and we always get the nachos when we go. I would recommend this place to any "beer snob" as you can't get a much better selection. Plus if you drink them all, you get a free tshirt...I like a place that gives out free tshirts!

A beer list so long, you'll be passed out in they alley long before you make it all the way through. Sure, the food is standard bar fare, but what's wrong with that? You don't complain that you always get a greasy burger and Mickey D's, do you? Breakfast Burger. Go get it. It's a big, fat, juicy burger topped with bacon (...mmm.) and a fried egg. A freaking. Fried. Egg. And believe me, when you break the yolk, and it dribbles down the burger....you have a transcendent moment. I mean, it was so good, I closed my eyes and walked into the light long enough to see God, say 'Sup?' and then go back to my spot at the bar. But that could have been my heart stopping for a moment due to the grease. We'll never know. Anywho, back to the beer. From around the world and back to local classics, light, dark, fruit, spiced, dry, WHATEVER. They have it. And, being the self appointed resident Viking (Vi-KING, emphasize the 'King'), something brought a tear to my eye. They have Mead on the menu. Man, maybe it was Valhalla I visited when I closed my eyes. Trippy. Long story short: Great beer, good eats, and the bartender I had was cool as could be.

This was my second trip to the grill next door. Much like the first one. I found the beer selection to be really good but the food to only be mediocre. When we walked in the hostess asked if a high top was ok. I made a face like it wouldn't be and she just looked at me.. so I said, I guess. We sat at a table that was up against the server station, probably the last table that should be sat in this place. I ordered the Sweet GND Burger and he ordered the Blue cheese burger. The sweet gnd boasted candied bacon and brie, but it did not deliver on flavor. While it was cooked to a perfect medium, the patty lacked seasoning. The "candied" bacon was strips with lumpy powdered sugar that was sitting limply on the burger. The brie was sliced rather thin, so it lost any hope of adding to the flavor of the burger. My boyfriend's burger was overdone, but he isn't one to complain, I would have sent it back. The burgers come with onion rings or fries, or $2.00 extra for specialty fries. I asked if I could have half rings and half fries and much to my surprise, I was charged $2.00. I don't understand how half of something included and half of something else included = $2 upcharge. The server didn't happen to mention it when I ordered either. The server was ok, she took some time picking up our check. She noticed it was ready, said she would be right back, dropped food at another table, then went and took another table's order. I had started this review with three stars, but the more I think of it.. two seems more fitting.

This used to be a regular stop for my girlfriend and I but we stopped in for a burger and a beer the other night for the first time in like six months and were both like,"what the hell happened here? The beer is still great, but frozen hamburger patties? It used to be fresh. The fries, onion rings and nachos? Nothing was the same. It tasted like a prepacked supermarket meal. As long as the quality remains this low, we are not going back. Man cannot live on craft beer alone. Especially not at these prices. Stop in for a drink, then move on.

    (1)
  • Scott S.

36 great craft beers, 1 cask ale, and 2 hard ciders always on tap. The beer menu is constantly changing-- 1 to 3 beers are changed every week or two. This means that none of the draft beers ever go stale. The service is friendly and efficient; most also know enough about beer to make good suggestions. The atmosphere is more of a family restaurant or sports bar rather than a pub or bar. It is very nice and clean, including the bathrooms. The food ranges from great to ok. Mushroom and spinach risotto, either as appetizer (risotto balls) or entree (scallop risotto) is outstanding. Other good entree's are their prime rib, meatloaf, mac n'cheese (especially with buffalo chicken), broadway shrimp, and hamburgers. I love their onion rings and sweet potato fries; their regular fries don't impress me. Some dishes, like the NY sirloin, are not that impressive (not bad, just ok), but the kitchen staff do know their temperatures and get it cooked as requested. Lately, the Grill has been featuring many more specials. These dishes are almost always exceptional, often featuring recipes developed by the owner. The Angry Mussels, Sausage Ravioli, and stuffed pork chops make regular appearances and are well absolutely wonderful. If the special is seafood, then you know that they found an exceptional fresh catch and that is going to be good too. I would order anything off the specials menu without hesitation. The food is good, but the beer menu and staff are the real stars of this place.

Just ate there last night with a friend. The menu was basic American/pub but with a bit of a flair. For instance, they have numerous types of french fry dishes that include cheese, gravy, special seasonings, even meat. (I don't have a great memory, so give me a break if this sounds vague.) They have a bunch of burgers wiht special toppings or even stuffings (stuffed burgers). The plain fries were good but the onion rings were clearly prefab, frozen, made in gigantic quantity crap. Edible, but totally not special. Service was attentive, the place was clean and well decorated. Prices were reasonable. Definitely a good place to go for a casual meal!!

This place is great. Try the Breakfast Burger or the Steak and Cheese Egg Rolls. Alas, I am here to win a T Shirt. 36 beers gets you the shirt 36 more gets you the mug. I am @ 28. They keep an index card on file for you and you can write your beer and (i date and score mine) opinion on it. I wish they had beer contests near Melrose.....

Grandma and I went to TGND for breakfast. When we walked in the place was too noisy for conversation. After a while, two noisy tables left the building and the whole place quieted right down to a comfortable level. TGND has a pretty good breakfast. Grandma had the chili omelet. Eggs were prepared fluffy (whipped, not my style). Chili had good flavor but bland. I had the banana walnut pancakes. These were delicious. They have table syrup and "real maple" syrup for extra cost. I always take my own maple syrup to breakfast. Service was attentive, coffee pretty good. Portions are generous. Many people left with doggy bags. I would go there again if in the neighborhood.

My partner and I decided to give this newer establishment a try upon the recommendation of several coworkers... We were not let down! One thing... This place has the best beer selection in the Haverhill area, by far! We came early in the evening and the "after work" crew had assembled at the bar, but the rest of the restaurant was relatively empty. We were immediately greeted and sat by a friendly hostess, and the prompt attention by the staff was something that carried through our meal. Our beers were served by our waitress with a description of what they were, and were presented in glasses appropriate for the type. As I said before, there is no shortage of eclectic choices. It's very refreshing to find a local place that eschews the regular Budweiser and Corona to the back page of the menu in lieu of some really unique stuff! The food choices on the menu were good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Typical American restaurant fare... If you want sushi or steak tartare (or anything "odd") look elsewhere. I ordered the haddock sandwich and my partner chose a "breakfast burger". Our meals arrived promptly and with a smile. My haddock was light and flaky, not "oily" as another reviewer stated. The breakfast burger was ordered medium-rare, and cooked to perfection (it really was "medium-rare", and not the "little bit of pink in the middle" like too many other restaurants like to cook them). The greens for each sandwich were crisp and fresh, and the buns fresh and toasted as well. Both entrees came with a choice of sides, and at the recommendation of others we chose the fries. Another reviewer said the fries were soft and greasy... This is true, and they were fantastic! One needs to understand that these are thick, hand cut fries made from skin-on potatoes. They are very much akin to "fair fries". If you want crispy, skinny fries, go to Burger King. As stated before, service was excellent! Our waitress was upbeat and bubbly, and was extremely attentive. It's as if she knew when we needed something, as she would appear out of nowhere at the right times asking if everything was OK. Prices were more than reasonable for the quality (and quantity) of food, beer, and service. Our meal came to ~$35 for two entrees and several microbrews. A pittance for such a good meal. This isn't the place to go if you're looking for an adventurous meal, but if you're looking to fill your belly with some well cooked food and good brews, definitely give The Grille Next Door a try. We'll definitely be going back!

Had lunch there today. Nice bright place, we sat in the back overlooking the marsh (the back needs to be cleaned up though).....waitress was very pleasant and the place got pretty full after a while....they have a GREAT beer selection and make a decent martini....we had the steak cheese roll up as an app an it was very good, the reuben was very good and the special fries different but very good.....now the burger, this place is one of those that won't do a burger less than medium, but i had the blue cheese stuffed burger anyway, shouldn't have , it was dry and pretty flavorless.....and they offer a lot of interesting burgers, too bad they won't cook them right....really a nice good place except for the burgers..................

I love the food at the Grill Next Door and have visited often. Their burgers and fries are so good - made exactly to order. Breakfast here is also a treat! I love their home fries, they are crispy little nuggets of potato goodness! The reason I only gave it three stars is because of the noise level in there at dinner time. I've tried doing dinner there many times (different nights of the week), but due to the layout of the place, the noise level in there sends me into sensory overload. It's a small space to begin with and it's basically an open room with several tables and booths and not much to absorb the sound. Forget about when there is a big game on and the folks at the bar are rowdy. Definitely not a place I'd go on a first date or where you want to catch up with a friend. Try going at lunch time, that's what I do now and it's much better. I know there's not much the owners can do about the layout, so I don't fault them for it. It's just not my cup of tea. The service has always been excellent every time I've gone in.

Their beer selection is what you come to visit for. You can stay becuase the food is awesome. They don't have crap on tap, its mostly awesome micro-brews and Guinness. They do serve all the standard bud and Coors stuff by the bottle, so even if you drink that swill, you can enjoy the place. The owner is a beer nut, and he is there bussing tables etc, many nights a week. This shows him commitment to having a great restaurant. He is delivering. The place is very new, and well laid out. It is small less than 75 seats I'd say. You will wait for a table on busy nights, but not too long. I've visited 6-8 times and never more than a 30 min wait. That's walking in at 8 on a Saturday. They have steak and cheese egg rolls. They are definitely not good for you, but they do taste great. Actually all the food tastes great. Steph says their Monte Cristo is the best she has had. You will enjoy a trip here. I hear the Brunch on the week ends is great as well, but we haven't made it out for that yet.

My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for somewhere different and local and landed on the grill next door. We got the BBQ burger and the Chip's pork burger.. Both left more to be desired, as did the sangria. The service was okay and the restaurant was hoottt. The beer selection is massive and was definitely the highest point of the place. Reminded us a little of a homey 99.

50 beers on tap - and I am not talking Bud and Bud Light. The beer list is extensive and world class, which is unexpected then appreciated. Amazing to try so many different brews from around the globe. Oh, and their menu is simple - and their burgers are pretty darn good. If you want to read a review that captures the place, read "James N."

So I went back for dinner and while the mac n cheese was not the best I ever had, the breakfast burger was!!! So flippin good, would eat them everyday for the rest of my life. The nachos were also a pleasent surprise. Since the demise of The Keys Grille I had been looking a new nacho place, and this is it! I would suggest, however, getting the dips (sour, salsa, guac) on the side. Sean, our B-tender rocked! and we were visited by Dave the owner neumerous times throughout the night. The bathrooms are spotless, always a good sign. And, though the place was slammed when we got there, we sat quickly and had great service. Strolled of the beaten path of my typical Bud bottle and joined the"36 Beer Club", There's actually a great little slogan to go with this, but alas it illudes me (maybe it was all the beer, ha ha). The deal is drink your way around the taps (does not have to done all at once...Thank God) and on your 36th different beer you receive a t-shirt and your 36th beer free. The beer selections are eclectic, and are changed monthly. Best one had last night was the Un-Earthly, YUM, YUM, YUM.

This place is just OK. They have great selection of beers on tap, but when I was in, it wasn't so much "craft" brews and more interesting selections from around the world. Still very impressive. The food, while it looked good on the internet and on the menu, but didn't live up to expectations. My wife and I both got burgers, and you can get the "specialty fries" on the side of those. Fries were clearly frozen, not fresh hand-cut potato (there is nothing special about bagged frozen Ore-Ida french fries, no matter how much junk you pile on top of them), and the burgers really left a lot to be desired. They weren't bad, per se, but they were not that great, and a little too big and greasy for me. Mine actually left a bad after taste in my mouth. They get bonus points for the beer selection, but if you go next door to the packie, you can get the same kind of beers there as well. Also as a bar, its not a great location (north of 495 on Rt 97). You need to drive there.

I have been to the Grill Next Door multiple amounts of times since they first opened for lunch, dinner, and drinks. I have enjoyed everything I have got. They do make an amazing turkey burger which is hard to find at a restaurant, it was both perfectly cooked and flavored. The beer selection is amazing for this area, with 36 beers on tap there is something there that everyone would enjoy from hoppy IPAs to Belgian Ales. They offer samplers for those that want to try different types and are not sure what they like. I have always had a friendly experience with the waitresses and bartenders. They have been helpful with food and drink choices and have always been very polite. I recommend this place to everyone. I enjoy the food and atmosphere a lot better than any of the chain restaurants.

I saw this place featured on the Phantom Gourmet and actually went to try the mac and cheese. I missed lunch and had the pancakes with sausage inside them and they were AMAZING! definetly worth the trip. good service, and prices. Will absolutely be going back here when I am up that way again!

Go for the beer and you won't leave disappointed. Anything else and prepare for some indigestion. So like I said, beer both selection and price is fantastic BBC Coffee Porter was an incredibly tasty start to a downhill journey. The quesadilla appetizer with chicken added was a bit steep at $9.99. Considering all it was was overcooked green peppers, and onions with jack cheese and grilled chicken. With side dishes of bland condiments. Salsa straight from a jug and putrid looking guacamole. The broadway burger sounded amazing and they claim to cook to order. But, my medium was well overlooked and well done and dry. And, for a pepper crusted patty surprisingly tasteless. Lastly the fries and onion rings. Fries were limp and luke warm and the onion rings were doughy and soggy. Both had an odd fishy smell to them. In short great beer an potential for a great neighborhood spot if they focus on the consistency and execution of there menu.

I used to love coming here on weekend mornings for breakfast when it was Cafe 97. I attempted to do this a couple weeks ago with my family. We walked in at 11:09 and were the only people in the place other than a couple sitting eating what looked like a great breakfast. Well, the waitress told us that we were too late for breakfast (@11:09!!! Really?? Maybe 12:09, but c'mon!) we asked if there was any way we could please have breakfast and the answer was no. If it was later or we weren't the ONLY people wanting food, I would understand, but that wasn't the case. We ended up having a mediocre breakfast at IHOP. I miss Cafe 97!!!

Been trying to make this a regular spot but I just can't keep going back, too many things wrong with it. Can't believe it's gotten so many positive reviews on Yelp, what am I missing? First and foremost, the place ALWAYS smells like fish, it's unbearable. Get an air freshener or something, they're not expensive. The other customers at the bar are always loud and obnoxious, and you can't sit there without SOMEONE being on a laptop. It feels like you're sitting in some dude's "man-cave" rather than at a business drinking $10 a glass beers. The last time I went one guy was on his computer playing scrabble with his 7 year old - at the bar. Not sure how the management allows this to happen, I wouldn't let a minor sit at a bar in my restaurant. Speaking of management, apparently they and the rest of the staff are allowed to walk behind the bar and pour themselves a beer whenever they feel like it. Not sure how this works, but apparently this place follows the same rules structure as Thunder Dome. Can't count how many times I've been sitting there talking to a friend when a busboy or a manager in a TGND shirt walks around and helps himself to one of the beers I'm paying $9 a glass for. Kind of a joke. Another major complaint is the layout of this place - there's no separation between the front door, the bar, and the dining room, so any time any one walks in you get a LONG rush of cold air. Whoever planned TGND was either drinking on the job, as a I mentioned above, or just scribbled down a floor plan on a cocktail napkin as quick as possible before they passed out from the rotten fish smell. This place would be a PERFECT candidate for one of those reality shows where the food network goes in and has to re-do the whole joint in a week or something, but as it stands now I recommend driving right past it.

Terribly dissapointed. My husband and I were craving a nice burger and decided to give the grill next door a try. We spent $20 on two take-out burgers and were increadibly underwhelmed. They were completely unseasoned! Zero salt or pepper or flavor - neither of us could taste anything and we desperately wanted to enjoy them. The fries were fine - nothing special and the highlight of the meal was the pickle...hardly worth $20. To top if off the waitress who went to get our takout order when we arrived was rude, acted like we were bothering her, and made several ugly faces at having to stop what she was doing to go check on our order. Isn't that part of her job? We will never be back and wish we never went to begin with.

The food is fine. Excellent nachos (surprisingly not that many pub food places serve decent nachos around here, decent wings, and the entrees that I've had have been solid. Meatloaf was just ok, with really soggy bacon on it, but sandwiches have been good. But the key to the four stars is the beer selection. An unsuprassed (in this neck of the woods) selection of Belgians and IPAs, all on tap, with a few other beers (like wheats) thrown in for good measure. If you love beer, you'll love it here. Surprising nice few of Haverhill conservation land too!

I had been hearing about the Grill Next Door's huge beer list for a while from various people. Was glad I checked it out, because it was a very, very impressive beer list. Got to try a stout from Sri Lanka, of all places. It was delicious. The food is just ok. Not bad, but just typical pub grub. I had the Breakfast Burger which was interesting, but was nothing to write home about. Some of the comfort food items on the menu looked intriguing. The decor is also a little lacking, doesn't have a very cozy atmosphere. I will, however, be going back to sample more beers...

Been here for lunch a couple times and once at night for apps and beer. Lunch was really good - we split an appetizer sampler and also split a 'side' of mac & cheese. The 'side' of mac & cheese was HUGE (and so filling)! We had enough leftovers for lunch the next day too - it was one of the best I've had, and I love me some mac & cheese. Our sampler was delicious as well, service was fast and friendly, AND they gave us two coupons for BOGO 1/2 off lunch for our next two visits!! An impressive and extensive beer selection, I couldnt tell you which one I tried, it was a while ago, but a big thumbs up!

I drive past this place nearly every day, it is packed most of the time. Today my friend and I decided to try it. I ordered the shaved steak sub, it was extremely dry and flavorless. We also ordered bacon cheese fries, which were alright, but somewhat soggy. My friend ordered a cheeseburger and she was not overly thrilled with it. The bruchetta barely had any cheese on it and was also soggy. The staff were polite, with the exception of the hostess and it was very clean. I am not sure I would visit this establishment again.

went for breakfast today, Halloween. We were a bit pressed for time but I didn't feel like DD. So we go in and wait a few minutes before we get seated. The waitstaff seems like they can't get everything done they need to and I don't think its their fault. My friend orders coffee and I order water. After a few minutes she comes back and tells us they are making coffee. So um wheres the water. Then a few minutes later the couple next to us who came in after us get their coffee. Still no coffee or water for us though. The biggest issue seems that there are NO busboys so the waitresses have to do all this extra work. Thats just wrong. My friend gets his coffee and finally I ask another waitress for some water so I can take some aspirin. The food takes a bit to cook but it really was very good. I had the 2 egg breakfast and I like that they put the dropped eggs in a seperate bowl so the water doesn't make the toast soggy. Kudos for that! The potatoes are the best EVAH! Its almost like they make mashed pototoes in a jelly roll pan, then freeze them and then drop them in the fryer. They are really good. The waitresses are nice and put in a bad spot by not having busboys. I know this as the people on either side of us were trying to chase staff down for water and coffee. The best part of the day was seeing folks drink beer at the bar at 10: 45 am. And I am talking about people in the late 30;s! lol

Ok to be fair I went here for breakfast and I think they were trying to "break into" breakfast. Well it didn't really work out for them. It was completely disorganized it took 45 minutes to get our food. No one was being waited on yet the wait staff for some reason was sweaty. And it wasn't even busy. The food was awful. The pancakes were hard and the scrambled eggs were runny. Your better off waiting for two hours to get into the IHOP in Salem or going to the Dunkin Donuts across the street. When I think about this restaurant it makes me sick.

great beer selection. very loud. typical pub food - Janet got the prime rib which was huge and yummy, the mased taters were great, but the grilled veggies were not as expected - mainly mushrooms, onions and a few slices of summer squash. Very likley the burger topping veggies. I got the scallop rissotto with spinach and mushrooms. The scallops were nicely cooked, but a little small. the rissotto was basically plain white rice with cream sauce. Not bad, but not good. If this place were around the corner I could see myself going again - but its too far for the sub par food and loud atmosphere.

Great place for craft beer lovers. The selection is well chosen; and the restaurant will notify you of frequent changes in the line up as well as dinner specials, events, etc. Through social media. Wine selection not great but serviceable for non beer drinkers and full bar as well. Good pub food. We have been several times with friends and everyone has been happy with his/her meal. Staff has been friendly and attentive any time I have been there. The owners is usually present so maybe that has something to do with it. Next door is the liquor store with naturally a fantastic selection of craft brews to go. Their website is updated daily so you can see exactly what is on tap before you go.

Horrible service by a stuck up blonde. We went to this restaraunt for the dogfish beer event. I will say that the place was overwelmed with customers. There was 7 of us in our party but they could only give us a table for 4. We understood this and 3 of us stood next to the people next to the table. The tall blonde watress took the orders of everyone at the table but ignored the ones standing up. After 45 minutes without a drink I went to the bartender and she told me she was overwelmed with orders and to order threw the waitress. At this point we called the waitress over and asked her for a couple of beers. Little did we know she was already at her snapping point I guess they are not used to handling large amounts of customers. The waitress then went on to have a temper tantrum. She started yelling " your not sitting, I am not the fucking bartender", and then began to snap her fingers in my girlfriends face. We then tried to explain to her we were told to order from her. She then then went off yelling "im not and a bartender, and your not sitting I will get nothing for you". At this point i tried to explain to this women that she was embaressing herself and to collect her self. She then yelled "NOW NONE OF YOU ARE GETTING DRINKS". At this point she walked away and the people sitting removed the tip they were gonna give her as she deserves no tip what so ever. We all then left and had a great dinner down the street with great service. Never again! We perfer places where the staff is not mentally ill.

They have a great beer selection, and great homestyle food. There is not a huge variety, but a lot of american classics such as steak, chicken parm, burgers, mac & cheese etc. It is a bit pricey and my husband and I never get great service, and one time the waitress refused to give my 71 year old grandmother the kids meal burger. Other than that, it is a quaint place, with a small town feel in the big city of haverhill, ma.

Great place, just opened this week! They have 35 beers on tap and a full breakfast/lunch/dinner/dessert menu. Got the breakfast burger, and it was outstanding. The beer selection is amazing, so many that i've never heard of. Got the bread pudding for dessert and it was to die for. It's a pretty small place, maybe 12-15 tables total, and it has a bar with seating too. 3 large screen TVs to watch the game during dinner. I'm recommending this place to all my friends, it's great.

3 stars is an average of the 2 times we have been there.... The place looks great, real nice bar with a ton of great beers on tap. These are not your run of the mill commercial beers either! Our first trip there was the week it opened, service was excellent with one of the owners coming over a couple times to ensure our visit was pleasurable. Th e burgers were very good as well as the huge chicken Ceasar wrap.....very satisfied! Happy to have a great place to go to near by second trip was last night (Saturday). Service was ok at best, food was mediocre at best.... the weather was snowy so comfort food was a no brainer....The special Mac and cheese with ham was flavorless as was the regular menu option without ham. The Monte Cristo sandwich was sweet and soggy, the side salad seemed like it was right out of the bag with the addition of 2 thin slices of red onion and 2 grape tomatoes.....The rolls were hot and delicious, but would never have received them if we didn't ask. I found it odd that when the waitress collected the plates and saw that the monty cristo had about 3 bites taken out of it she didn't bother to ask if there was anything wrong! We will give it another try because it is apparent that the owners are doing their best, but need to work the kinks out.
