we love coming in here for a slice--every time we've visited, there's been a line out the door (this could be because we're going later on at night). it's just solid, yummy pizza!

Not bad, not amazing. More of a 3.5 than a 3. Convenient Harvard Square location. Always a little too crowded at peak hours. Offer up some nice Sicilian slices, which is a treat, as there aren't a ton of places in the area that do. The atmosphere isn't anything to rave about, but the slices are good, and it proves a nice alternative to the generic Greek-style that go overboard on the grease and oregano you find pizza joints littered around the boston area.

  • Paul M.

Why does pinnocchios rule? Simple, they are the only place thats open late. Harvard sq is a sad sad place for not having more late night food joints. Sure there is Ihop(ew), and charlie's kitchen(only till 12:30) but other than that there is nothin. The pizza is kinda greasy, but there are a lot of varieties already prepared even when they are about to close. Trust me you'll appreciate it when it's 2am and your only other choice is... well nothing.

Great sicilan slices, excellent subs... have been eating here for 18 years and still haven't gotten tired of it.

I have fond memories of skipping high-school, getting the 2 Sicilian slice special from Pinocchio's and sitting by the river enjoying my delicious lunch (I think I started another review just like this, but hey I guess I skipped school alot). Great toppings, deep pies and crunchy crust make Pinocchio's the best pizza in Harvard square (sorry crazy dough).

  • Daigo F.

I have not been there in the while, do they still have that super yummy Tomato and Basil Square pizza? If so, "The Best Pizza in Boston" in my book

  • rishi h.

Five stars for being the only pizza place I've eaten at in the Boston area where I developed a new craving (disclaimer: I have not eaten pizza on the North End yet). Stop by for lunch and you can get any two sicilian slices for four bucks. Try the tomato and basil.. you won't regret it!

    (5)
  • Kabir H.

Best traditional pizza in Harvard Square; I'd definitely head over here before Bertucci's or Crazy Doughs. Their staple is sicilian slices and they've got a healthy amount of variety when it comes to toppings, all of them common. It's open late, so it's perfect for ending a long, drunken rampage.

    (3)
  • el e.

for all the hype, this place isn't all that. the pizzas and subs don't have the wow-factor, and they aren't particularly cheap or anything. i'm not sure what the big deal is. on top of that, all this hot air hype causes cramped spaces and little seating. meh, there are better joints out there.

    (2)
  • Alex Y.

Absolutely, positively, amazingly good pizza. Get the sicilian and a nice cold IBC and drift into heavenly bliss.... Time for me to go get some lunch! MMmmmmm....

    (5)
  • Dave M.

Always just assumed that this place was over-hyped by local college students, but it turns out that they serve truly excellent pizza. Tonight was our first at Pinocchio's, but it certainly won't be our last!

    (4)
  • Pilan C.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Sicilian slice, so I wasn't surprised when I really liked Pinocchio's. You can get whatever toppings you want, and it's especially good after a night of drinking. I've never had anything else on the menu, but since the pizza's good, I've never had any reason to be adventurous.

    (4)
  • Melissa A.

Ew. I have only gotten pizza here once - and I can't say that I'll ever go back. The pizza was cold and the toppings were sparse and not very fresh. I was disappointed since I live close by and had always heard they had great pizza.

    (1)
  • Bryanne R.

Oh hell yea...this place is awesome. Love late night food. Good subs, good pizza. Convenient if you've been out on the town in Harvard Square. Take your crew here to chill and get your grub on.

  • Alan N.

neil once said that this is the best pizza in boston. seriously people? this is the best you can do. i've gone here each time i've been in cambridge over an 8 year span. Noke's is not that good. its a doughy sicilian slice and sure it warrants 4 stars when you're hammered, but this pizza is just not that great. for sicilian it might be average to above average, or maybe i'm not a big sicilian fan, but i guess my takeaway is that the bar is set pretty low in cambridge. you see me, hi haters!

    (2)
  • Georgia Y.

Decor? We don't need no stinkin' decor at Pinocchio's! This is the best cheapo pizza in Harvard Square. The restaurant is small and junky, but there's an amazing Pinnochio mural on one wall, which makes it worth a visit.

    (3)
  • Peter P.

Good Pizza, nothing spectacular. I miss Cafe Aventura ! Anyone who say's this is the best pizza in Boston apparently first of all doesn't realize that Cambridge is NOT Boston, and has also apparently only eaten at one pizza place in the Boston area. The pizza here doesn't even begin to compair to Pizzaira Regina, or the Upper Crust. Take a trip to the North End! This place is a blast late night if you like mowing your way through drunken Harvard kids.

    (3)
  • Jennifer S.

It's quick, convenient and they have every type of veggie topping you could imagine (where else have you had zucchini pizza)? They get bonus points for staying open late, but I must agree with past reviews in that while it is pretty tasty and convenient there are a lot of better places out there.

    (3)
  • Kate S.

I never understood why so many people loved Pinocchio's for any reason other than their hours. I lived around the corner in Lowell House so I went there often for the sake of convenience, but I would never choose a slice of Pinnochio's over Crazy Doughs (also in Harvard Sq. - in the Garage) for the taste. The toppings are fine, but the crust is bland and tasteless - more like bread than pizza crust - they simply do not use enough salt or olive oil in their dough.

    (2)
  • Flora B.

Tomato basil pizza is quite good. Especially at 1:30am.

    (5)
  • Laura A.

best sicilian in cambridge, and a good deal for the massive amount of pizza you get, too. a great place to grab a slice in the summer and sit and eat outside somewhere in harvard square.

    (5)
  • Eric S.

My impression of this place was already pretty good since I thought the name of the store was great. The pizza is really good and consistent from visit to visit. They have a solid base of customers, and they've become a staple of Harvard Sq.. Unfortunatley, I've seen workers not wearing gloves , or switching from money handling to food handling(w/o washing). That's a Big "no-no" for me. Eat the food, don't watch it being served.

    (3)
  • Andrea C.

Who needs the overpriced pizza from Crazy Doughs when Harvard Square has cute little Pinocchio's. If you want a good slice of pizza, come here! the Sicilian style tomato basil is the so good. If you don't come in at the right time, you run the risk of having pizza thats been sitting out for a bit. The hectic times (i.e. lunch time) are when they are popping out the freshest pizzas and thats the key moment to snag the warm, toasty slices. It's a tiny hidden place but there's always people there.

    (5)
  • Jud P.

It's not a five star joint, in fact it's a bit of a dive, but it is the best pizza in Harvard Square, or anywhere close by. I've only ever gotten slices, but I hear the subs (hoagies as I call them) are good too. But who wants anything else when the huge, thick slices of light and crispy Sicilian crust pizza are this good. Open late and cheap to boot. You really can't go wrong with a slice or two when you get that snack attack.

    (5)
  • Stephen J.

I can't help but crave Sicilian slices of Pinnochio's after a few drinks and a good night out. It's only $2 a slice, conveniently located (although slightly hidden, but the location is great right in Harvard Square), and when you try some of their Sicilian slices you'll know what bliss is. I confess I haven't tried anything else on the menu, because every time I get the slices. They're that good.

    (4)
  • Jessica R.

tiny tiny tiny tiny hidden secret pizza shop! go see at movie at the Harvard Film Archive and eat here afterwards.

    (4)
  • Anonymous P.

As Randy would say...This place is just OK for me dawg. I'm about with Kate S on this one, but every once in a while I get a slice that I think is slightly better than average. And at least it's cheap. 2.5 stars.

  • ms.kiki g.

i fly to boston about 5 times a year. every time i come i have to (HAVE TO) come here for the spinach pizza. i used to live here, and it's the one thing i miss the most. 2 slices for under $5 and they're HUGE. They're thick bready, no sauce (on the spinach), crispy and garlicky spinach. I have tried to repeat the experience with other spinach pizzas around boston/SF and nothing, nothing, nothing (did i say nothing?) can compare to there version. nothing.

    (5)
  • Joe R.

Great little pizza joint - I hate to regurgitate what the other reviews have said, but go for the sicilian style pizza. The dough won't let you down.

    (4)
  • Pete P.

2nd best sicilian in all of boston, 1st being Leone's. Its good, crispy crust which can be rare on sicilian za. they also have a lot of slices ready to go. plain, veggie, sausage, peperoni...

    (4)
  • Melissa B.

Great for a late night snack. Those big thick slices will sop up all that alcohol. Flavors are great, I like spinach and the tomato and basil. Throngs of too-drunk college kids can test your patience. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

    (3)
  • Tristan D.

This is incredibly cool. I started going to Pinocchio's when I was a child, back in the mid-70's. I'm amazed to see it's still around, and even more amazed that it's still good! Now that I'm working in Harvard Square, I'm gonna go get a slice or three!

    (4)
  • Lacey P.

The best pizza in Boston I would say. Open late and very cheap, they have several different kinds of pizza. You know, the kind without cheese? Really good. My friend used to be obsessed with a man there. He said he was his urban mentor and took inspiration from his style and finesse.

    (5)
  • Geoff T.

I personally think that good, I mean really good, pizza in Boston is hard to find. So, when snotty friends from Chicago or New York come by, this is the place to take them. Their sicilian style pizzas (though they have regular pies, too) are amazing and come by the slice or a whole pizza. Grab couple of the basil and tomatos with a root beer and heaven ensues.

    (5)
  • Stephanie W.

Best pizza ever! It is really a hole in the wall and is always crowded with students, but to get 2 big slices of Sicilian pizza for under 5 bucks, it is worth it. They have really interesting toppings too. I love the basil and tomato and the spinach pizza. And they are open late too! I would not get their round pizzas though.

    (4)
  • J B.

Best Sicilian slices in town. I'm not crazy about the rest of the menu and sometimes you have to put up with hearing Harvard kids complaining about how tough it is to be rich and privileged, but this place rules.

    (4)
  • Grace C.

noch's is the best sicilian pizza in boston! the tomato basil and the pepperoni are my favorites. perfect for a late-night snack or quick lunch in the square... chicken parm and steak and cheese subs are excellent too!!

  • Hareesh K.

    great slices. enough said.

  • Sarah C.

Excellent service. If you love Sicilian pizza you will love Pinocchio's. The sauce is yummy and over all the pizza is great.

    (4)
  • Kiki B.

fantastic late-night food. sicilian pizza with thick, pillowy crust? yes, please. flavorful sauce, lots of topping choices. tiny seating area, but lucky you if you get some.

    (5)
  • Mike P.

Cheap. Great! Open late! Fast! This place makes Cambridge a better city. You can't really find Sicilian pizza anywhere in Boston expect for Pinocchio's. I usually like to go in and get 2 slices for dinner and bring another 2 home for lunch the next day. Regular, spinach, sausage, they are all great

    (5)
  • C S.

The pizza is so good here-- get a slice of thin AND a slice of sicilian

    (4)
  • M S.

Good pizza. Nothing fancy, but a good variety of toppings. Tomato-basil can't be beat. They also make non-Sicilian pizza (but why bother?) and hot subs/hoagies/grinders.

  • andy s.

The food gets 2 stars, the location and hours get 4 stars. Pizza: bland With a (very) smallish amount of wheat flavor in the crust, really nice texture to the thin crust, typical texture to the Sicilian, less-sharp than I'd hope cheese, seemingly pretty fresh toppings, and bland functional sauce, what it boils down to is that their acceptable quality pizza is on the low end functional late-night food with some big flaws. Service: as is expected I'd like to note that anybody that's been in Boston for more than a week who walks into a high-volume establishment at a busy time, especially late at night around bar closing time and expects to have something other than a random edible object that's primary purpose is to fight off the beer woozies when they're walking out, is being completely unrealistic. Are you expecting a clean friendly, and attentive staff that won't berate you for taking 4 seconds longer than they deem acceptable to make a drink decision, little miss princess-and-the-pea? Go back to suburban Connecticut and eat there. The truth of the matter is that drunk masses of people would *much* rather wait in line for 5 minutes to get a cold slice than 20 minutes to get a perfect slice, and dealing with that many drunken idiots for hours on end would make absolutely anybody embittered and grumpy. For the amount of oven space they have, line space they have, and BAC of their average patron during high volume hours they do the best they can, I guarantee it. Seasoning: almost none Now, I spend a *lot* of time considering the appropriate level of seasoning in food (long time eater, recent culinary arts student) and I can tell you right now that I've *never* gotten anything from Pinocchio's that hasn't been egregiously under salted (except for that one time I got a salad with typical food-service Italian dressing which is always a salt-bomb). I'm not sure whether people just assume that because it's pizza, they're just mistaken when it tastes really bland and it's actually saltier than they think, or they are distracted by the moderately fresh ingredients... I don't know. For a while, every time I went there I said "oh, guess they forgot to put the salt in the crust, and under salted the sauce again... that's disappointing." After a while, I realized that's just how it tasted. "Amazingness": wha? I've been going there off and on since I was a scumbag pit rat teenager about a decade ago, and I just don't understand why so many people get behind this place so passionately. If it's where you went for drunken post-bar pizza in college and had a lot of good times there, that's all well and good but don't mislead people about the actual *pizza* itself. Someone looking for a good slice isn't going to get a thrill from the fact that they're sitting in the chair you made out with your first one night stand in. Conclusion: hi fi I'm fairly convinced that the secret to the magic of Pinocchio's is that they're open late, they put up with drunk people, pompous Harvard tools... so if you're totally hammered or a pompous Harvard tool, and up late, go to Pinocchio's. Everyone else is honestly *way* better off going to hi fi if you can make it over to central for a big, floppy, greasy, flavorful slice of pizza.

This is the cutest pizza joint in Harvard Sq. by far. They have the huge sq. Sicilian slices that are just great. I really like how they grow their ivy to cover the cealing, it makes you feel like you are eating in a Sicilian garden. This is where all the Harvard kids grab their slices. Enjoy.

Called "Noch's" for short by adoring, often-intoxicated Harvard students, this establishment is probably the first place new Harvard students visit once their parents leave. The Sicilian pizza is heavenly and cheap. Two thick, square, deep-dish pieces for under $5. The owners and staff are fun, and if you make an effort to put away your cell phone while you order, they will smile and be nice to you. If you ignore them, they'll basically ignore you. Seems fair to me. The owner once told me that the best selling pizzas are: Tomato-Basil, Pepperoni and Cheese. Those three types add to 90% of the business. Don't bother with the flat bread pizza, though I hear the subs are pretty good. It's a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in the truest sense: broken pavement on the road, uneven steps leading to the door, piles of cardboard boxes in the alley, but the Sicilian pizza is amazing. More of a "I missed dinner" or "It's 1am and I'm famished" place than a first date or family place.

  • Josh F.

Second-best slice of pizza in Boston, just below Regina. They're best known for their Sicillian pizza but I love the regular thin crust, just my taste. Small place with only a few tables so it can be crowded during lunch but people usually don't linger. Two slices and a drink make a great cheap and filling meal. They also have pretty good subs.

  • Sarah T.

best by-the-slice pizza in h.square. cheap. delicious. open late.

    (5)
  • Rico B.

Really small pizza place but has a lot to offer. Really good cheap eats when you need something warm in your stomach after all those booze. It's a favorite among college students, so its packed during weekend.

  • L S.

You must have a slice of their delicious Sicilian pizza!! It is fabulous and I haven't met one person who thinks otherwise. I'm not sure about any other food there. The pizza is a bit pricey, but it's Harvard square. Pinocchio's is sort of hidden from view, it's behind Berk's shoe store. I would recommend getting the pizza to go since the place is kind of small and gets really packed by 12pm.

    (5)
  • Jessica H.

This place is right up there in my top three list of places to go for Sicilian pizza. Their crust is kind of crunchy which is really good! They have lots of good toppings too. I always get a slice with tomatoes on top. They are a little pricey, but they are totally worth it.

  • Ed H.

I've been here a few times now. Only having the pizza once, on my first visit, I was not impressed. I had gotten two slices, but had only been able to finish one of them. I have eaten some bad pizza before and still managed to enjoy it, but this was that bad. From what I hear, if you get a good, hot slice, things are different. I'm a little hesitant to try again though. However, the cheese steak, now that is a different story. It's simple, easy, and good. Bread, meat, cheese (provolone to be exact). Good. Mmmmm. You can get more on it if you desire. I don't. It's just the way I like it. Not that they don't put enough on there to begin with or anything, but if you want something just a bit meatier/cheesier, for just a few bucks more, get it with extra meat/extra cheese. So good!

  • Heather G.

Yum. The Sicilian pizzas are delicious, hot, squishy, and flavorful. At just a couple bucks, this place is a STEAL. However, the downfalls are: 1. Seating is limited and uncomfortable, so take it to go 2. The place is always packed 3. You are at the mercy of what they've made and have not sold out of yet, so it's often tough to order what you *actually* wanted to have. That said, the slices are all great, and I always get at least one of my top 3 choices for pizza that day. Don't let it get cold, though...the consistency of the dough changes when cold, and it becomes less pleasant to eat. Overall, awesome value.

  • Anna R.

As a Harvard student, I'm not sure if I'd survive without Noch's. I always get the artichoke pizza and a bottle of root beer--under $5. Can't go wrong with that! I have tried other slices, and the sausage comes in second for me. It's open until 2, which is a +10. Come marvel at all the drunk kids! The seating is EXTREMELY limited, so be prepared to feel snug, or take it outside. Although the park across the street is creepy and dirty. Please don't go there. ALSO--they only accept cards if it's over $7, aka 2 slices and a drink.

Sheeshh, I almost forgot about Pinocchio's in Harvard Sq. If you're not familiar with Harvard Sq, this place may be a little tough to find. It's back in a corner at 74 Winthrop. A virtual hole in the wall. It's these type of places that usually have some of the best foods and Pinocchio's Pizza & Subs is no different. This is the place Harvard students hit late at night after a crash course of studying. The regular and Sicilian pizzas are incredibly good. It's been at least 10+ years since I've eaten there since I now live in Arizona. Still, I'm a Cambridgian who has eaten here dozens of times and I know they haven't changed. Their subs are also very good. I've had their Steak & Cheese, Pastrami and Ham & Cheese and they all were excellent. This place is usually packed during lunch and dinner hours so be prepared to wait if you go at those times. Even late night on Fri & Sat, you might have to deal with students eager for this fast food goodness. Even though MaMagoo's has better subs, Pinocchio's has the better pizzas overall. Trust me, this place is worth finding and if you don't know where it is, ask anyone walking around Harvard Sq. They'll tell you.

Needing some drunk food late at night or looking for some solid grounding before heading out for drinks? Then Pinocchio's is a great choice for really yummy Sicilian style pizza and pizza slices. In addition they offer good steak sandwiches. It is not the place where you would go for a proper dinner, but if you are craving a great slice of pizza, this is definitively the place to go. I love the combination of artichoke and pepperoni - really good. Even though it has a line around peak hours, it is normally moving pretty fast and I think these slices a worth a 5 minute wait.

    (5)
  • Mo J.

Perfect conclusion to late nights, but the pizza's not good enough to warrant daytime consumption. Don't get me wrong, the pizza is good, but why go here when there are clear superior alternatives for pizza in the square?

  • Daniel M.

What a fool I am to have neglected the many reviews I've seen of Pinocchio's ignoring their calls to drag my sorry self over and experience the joy that is a well made slice. On my first visit I tried the thin "regular" cheese pizza. In my book this is the barometer by which all slices are measured. If you can't hang with the simplest of simple you can't hang at all. My regret from that day is that I only purchased one slice. After inhaling the slice it became clear that I was missing out on a Cambridge staple. I had to come back. Come back I did. Visit two proved momentarily heartbreaking when I was told there was no thin crust cheese available. After shedding a single emo tear I sucked it up and scanned my option. This trip had me sampling zucchini pizza (well, I never!) and a slice that was all sauce with globs of molten mozzarella slapped here and there. Heavenly. Yesterday's trip left me once more without my thin crust lover (why do you hate me?) so I went with its Sicilian counterpart and a slice of veggie. The thick chewy dough was a delicious match for the cheese but did leave me yearning for the thin crust but hold the phone here comes the veggie. I should apologize to the people in Cambridge who happened to be nearby as I ate my slices in the park across from Pinocchio's...but I won't. Yes, I must have looked quite the fools as I tried to balance the box, the slice, and myself all while a thin stream of greasy goodness streamed down my arm. While it was not a pretty site I DON'T CARE, I was in the zone. My waist may disagree but the only bad thing is that I live too far away from Pinocchio's.

Pinnochio's was my first taste of Boston food, and boy, and I hooked! I have to admit that I didn't get the pizza. I ordered my first sub, not knowing what I was getting myself into. I believe I got the steak and mushroom loaded with tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and the best part... the peppers. My goodness, the flavors just exploded in my mouth! It was the best sandwich I had ever had. I've been back twice and am still just as impressed every time. It's definitely a local hole-in-the-wall but one of the best!

  • Jared S.

Best (read: almost only) place for late night pizza in the square. The prices are awesome and the pizza itself isn't the worst. Dont expect a culinary experience coming here, take it for what it is. Thanks 'nochs for fueling many a late night binge (whether it be books or beer)

Cheap, fresh, and not bad. I love that this little proletariat pizza place hidden up a side street has survived without having to turn yuppy. Check it out!

Our tour guide told us we had to try this place, so we took him up on his suggestion and went in for a quick dinner. Be warned that they only have certain combinations of pizzas made, so don't get crazy and try to mix exotic combinations such as pepperoni and mushrooms, that won't fly here...After this initial gaffe in pizza etiquette, my wife and I ended up with two slices of sicilian pizza each. The pizza was excellent and well worth our visit. Pictures on the wall of Mark Zuckerberg eating the same pizza was also cool!

  • Purvi R.

I'm always so surprised by how much I absolutely love Pinocchios. It's tough because there are a bunch of other options in spitting distance (upper crust (meh), veggie planet, cambridge 1) so when I want pizza, I normally think of those places. I gotta walk the extra few steps once in a while and get here more often. The margarita pizza is by far the best I've had here. the fresh basil (I've waxed poetic about fresh basil before, but I'll do it again) just makes that chewy crust taste 10x better. [mouth watering]. Get the special 2 slices - worth it. Can be a wait, and not a place to sit down. Grab your pizza and eat on your walk. Especially relevant for post-bar...

  • Krystal T.

The pizza here was good, not a 5. The texture and consistency of the dough is good, but flavorless. I appreciated the fresh basil and tomatoes (basil and tomato Sicilian). I was expecting a little more from the great things I heard about this place. I asked for sauce on the side and it was warm and pretty good. We are going to give it another shot.

Good enough pizza, but service is a bit questionable. We ordered a pie and were told to come back in 20 minutes to pick up. We got there at about the 20 minute mark, and were told that it would be a few more minutes. We waited around for like five minutes, and decided to hit 7-Eleven around the corner and get some milk. We told the staff that we'd be right back. We couldn't have been longer than 10 minutes. When we returned, our pizza (tomato basil scillian) looked like it was up for grabs on the general area portion of the counter. The cashier saw us and grabbed a box and put our now luke-warm pizza in a box. I'm just glad they didn't sell any slices of our pizza. I would have been uber-pissed. The pizza itself was tasty. A bit dry perhaps, and not very seasoned, but still pretty good once we reheated in the oven at home, and I added some garlic and black pepper. Service issues aside, I'd definitely eat here again. Just keep an eye on the workers... they are pretty busy and don't really pay much attention to time or what you say to them.

  • Paul L.

Jang David K. said that this was the best pizza in all of Boston and rivaled the ovens of Grimaldi's and Lomabardi's in New York. My mistake was to believe him. Pizza was decent but not the best I've ever had. I believe we had the tomato and pepperoni slices and they were good but were underwhelming in comparison to his glowing preview of the place. I think if I went to Harvard, was studying late, and was very hungry, I would think this place was the diggity but to reproduce such exclusive circumstances would require an intelligence greater than my own. If only.

I love the pizza and the simplicity: late night, tasty pizza, order quickly, pay-and-go. Take it as it is. It's a hole in the wall and sometimes you can sit but mostly you go to get a nice (square) slice or two that's thick but not heavy...and you take it to go on your walk home from the pub. The price is good and the service is quick. Love it.

Fantastic choice for food if you're in Cambridge, it's late, and you're looking for something quick, filling, and reasonably priced. It's down a little alley in Harvard Square and is always packed (a testament to its crowd-pleasing ability). Ordered the 2 Sicilian slices for $4 something. Good sized square slices that had the nice quality of being home made (as opposed to the cardboard variety from pizza chains). I got the Spinach and the Tomato & Basil. And I'm a big crust lover, and it didn't disappoint. If you can, take the food to go (there's limited seating), otherwise, definitely give it a try when you're out late and looking for something filling and quick.

Great pizza at a reasonable price. Enjoyed the cozy, relaxed atmosphere. Definitely order the Sicilian crust. It took about 10 minutes for them to cook up a whole pizza.

Hey Yelpers! Just wanted to let you know that I love the Scilian cheese pizza here, but the overral service and attitude of the owner and college kid clientele is the worst!! I've been here many times due a recommendation a few years ago. I was just recently there picking a couple slices of pizza and there were a few CK in front of me and the owner was trying to juggle their order and mine as well. I had a long day and just wanted to get something for dinner. He took my order, then couldn't remember and then had a nerve to give me attitude (was laughing about me to a CK) and asked me what was wrong!!!

Good Sicilian pizza, but not great. Dough is solid but most flavors are not interesting. Needed more than a couple of slices to fill me up. Have not tried their subs. Small place, mostly college kids come. Take out is better than eating in (you might have to share a table if you dine in). 3.5

The pizza is pretty tasty! we stopped in and grabbed some huge squares (note, i said squares and not slices, because they are squares) for $2.50 each or special purchase 2/$4.40. I had a square of pepperoni and a square of mushroom. the crust is very thick (Sicilian style), the pepperoni was much better than the mushroom. it seemed like they forgot to put about 1/2 the mushrooms on they should have. i also tried the tomato and basil and have to say that pizza with the red sauce is much better. I guess it was a little odd that they "ran out" of several kinds of squares that were listed on their board. I mean, it's a pizza place, right? just make some more pizza. ;) all in all, very tasty. accepts credit cards (for us in the "never have paper cash" club) and also sells pepsi and diet pepsi (for those of us vehemently against coke.)

A good alternative to thiner-crust pizzas like Upper Crust and Bertucci's - their Sicilian crust is pretty solid, and the pizza is actually REALLY filing! I recommend getting a freshly made pizza (I prefer that to the slices). Be warned, if you get the Sicilian crust, it's quite a bit more expensive for a full pie than other places in the area - but it's worth it. One improvement left to be made: Please deliver!!!

Best pizza in Cambridge. Nice and small restaurant.....and mmmm mmm goood!

  • Jasmine M.

It's probably my favorite pizza place! The Sicilian slices are incredible. The ingredients taste fresh, they pop it in the oven for you for a few minutes and it comes out so warm and crispy, not some gooey floppy crap like other places. Oh and it's super cheap? SUPER. The seating arrangements is as good as it can be in that little space, but it can get crowded. I usually take my food outside if it's a good day.

Pinocchio's is the place to be late night in Cambridge if you're looking for a greasy bite to eat. There is usually a wide selection of toppings on thick crust and thin crust pies. The seating provides a prime location for snickering at drunk undergraduates. I can't complain about the pizza here, though I would say that I don't have a particularly delicate pallet after an evening of binge-style drinking. Noc's is the best Cambridge has to offer, but it falls a bit short of my favorite late night pizza shops of all time. Pizza Mart in Adams Morgan (DC) has featured the "Jumbo Slice" for years now - this is the pinnacle of all late night dining. One pointer for Noc's - can you guys figure out a way to stay open later? 2 PM is not cutting it and you are leaving serious business on the table. Damn you Cambridge city bureaucrats and your red tape - the people want pizza, not late night peace and quiet. Scott Brown where are you?

Decent and one of the better quick places to get a pizza in Boston/Cambridge, but not enough to totally win me over since I'm from NJ. The Sicilian I got was pretty tasty, but after it got a bit cooler, it got kinda stale fast, probably because it sat around too long. The place is incredibly small so it can get rowdy with drunk students, so be ready to eat on the go.

I'm from new york, so i adore pizza. I know it's super stereotypical, but whatever. ANYWAY, Pinocchio's makes some of the best Sicilian pizza I've had outside of my home state. The sauce is tangy and fresh tasting, the cheese is great, as is the crust. I'm sort of torn between them and (shock shock) Regina's in the North End, but Pinocchio's is closer, so when I have a pizza jonesing I totally hit them up. For the record, I like both their regular pies as well as Sicilian.

  • Dan C.

This was some of the best pizza I have had in a long time. The crust on sicillian slices were light and airy and the cheese/sauce was outstanding. i will go back here any time I am in the Boston area. It is tucked away down a little side street but thank goodness for Yelp in helping me find it!

If you've been on the prowl for mouthwatering pizza that looks and smells like its straight from Sicily, look no further than Pinocchio's. This small hole-in-the-wall in Harvard Sqaure serves up large Sicilian slices in a few varieties for only a few dollars. All the staff members are really nice and funny (think Italian family), as in they joke around with you but are also really efficient. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Margarita myself, but all the toppings look yummy. I don't think you could go wrong at Pinocchio's.

Tomato basil Sicilian pizza and spinach pizza= the way to go here at Pinocchio's. I would say this is the best Sicilian pizza I've had here in Boston. Of course I can't give you 5 star because I could think of few places in NYC that reminds me of how best pizza should be. But for Boston, this is solid. One of my fav. spots in Cambridge. Oh, after reading my friend's post about the subs.....i totally forgot to talk about their superfantastic subs (steak is pwnage for sure)....thanks dukster for the reminder

Absolutely love the pizza here. Sicilian slices are fantastic and actually crunchy and I cannot think of better pizza in Cambridge. I usually get 2 Sicilian slices and a soda or water and it comes to about $6. Love it.

Did I miss the Pinocchio's magic? It's a hole-in-the-wall pizza shop that's basically in an alley. The service was gruff and they have a minimum for credit cards. The pizza was sicilian style and just kind of "okay" - not great by any means. Many other places for great pizza in this area. Oggi is #1, or Crazy Doughs...

    (2)
  • Alan C.

This is a pretty damn good deal. The slices they have are huge and you can get 2 for $5. I had both a Tomato Basil and a Pepperoni and they were both good. I mean it's not the best pizza in the world, but when you're hungry this place fits the bill perfectly.

    (4)

Decision, decisions and more decisions. I'm a huge fan of the margherita pizza, you can't go wrong. Take it to go because this place is way too crowded.

SICILIAN PIZZA, NUFF SAID! SO GOOD!!! my friend said the dough was undercooked, but I find that a characteristic of a thick square cut sicilian pies, and i find it quite enjoyable. next time i go i am definitley trying one of there subs, they look fantastic!

Pinocchio's is good no matter when you go, but it's best under two conditions: 1) You're balls-out drunk, tripping home from the clurb, and really need something to sop up that last rum and coke. You're in luck. Fumble in your pocket for $2 and change, and slap down for a thick, chewy, perfectly cooked, well-topped slice of tomato and basil (or artichoke.. mmm.. or pepperoni... mmmmm...). Try to land your inelegant fall into one of the chairs, and dig in. 2) You've got friends in town! They want to see Hahvahd squa (where they can pahk their cahs), and after leading them through getting a Charlie Ticket ("why 'Charlie'?" "Well, there's this song.."), and tromping around the pit, The Garage, and Urban Outfitters, you're a bit peckish. You're in luck! Being a Cambridge native, you know this great hole-in-the-wall place, off the main street, been there forever, real Italians running it, delicious pizza. A local's secret. Convince them that they want slices and not a full pie, fumble around in your pocket for $2 and change, and slap down for a thick, chewy, perfectly cooked, well-topped slice of mushroom and olive (or sausage.. mmmm.. or spinach... mmm....). I'm suprised at the lackluster reviews here. Haters gonna hate, I guess, but I've been coming here for more than half my life at this point, and I've yet to come away not glad I went.

Big fan of this place after visiting just once. When we stepped off the T in Harvard Square, my stomach was grumblin. My buddy called up a friend who used to live in the area and he recommended this place to try. I had the Italian sub, and it must have been one of the best subs I've ever had. I had them put everything on it except onions and tomatoes and I was surprised to see some sort of chili sauce on it. That sauce was the bomb-diggity! Really tight space, so we scarfed down the food and headed out. Great food. I'll be back.

This place is super cheap. Wow, $4.25 for two slices; it does not get better than that. I had the onion and pepper, the veggies, the spinach pizza and the tomato and basil all for $9.10 total. Ok so I didn't eat it all my self, but I could have. What you see is what you get, don't expect to be amazed by flavor or anything. Pinocchio's is pretty convenient when you are in the Harvard area looking for something quick and cheap. I never know what to eat when I am around there, mostly because everything there is pretty pricey and it's a 50/50 chance of hit or miss. I can count this place as somewhere I can go when I don't feel like being horribly disappointed and overcharged for a quick bite. It's definitely not the best pizza I have ever had or the best service for that matter, but its good for what it is.

Tomato basil Sicilian pizza? Yes please. IBC rootbeer in those sweet glass bottles? Sign me up. I've been coming here since I was a kid and I've yet to have better in Boston/Cambridge...While you certainly can't always sit in and eat, who cares. A note to the wise: go for the corner slice. Crust city here I come.

Spaghetti Cat came here in the hopes of two things - to favorably revise his previous review, and to get the Blue Fairy to transform into a real boy. We are happy to report success in the former - I don't think I've ever been so spectacularly off about a place before. Hard up for a quick dinner in the Square before a speaking engagement (Spaghetti Cat moonlights as a motivational speaker at weekend self-help seminars - "Perfecting the Fine Art of Sauceless Spaghetti Refusal". Also might be offering this as a full course at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education next fall.), I found myself drifting down towards the river on JFK, and caught the Pinocchio's sign out of the corner of my beady little eye. This did not go so well before, I remembered, but that was also two years ago, and we are always willing to give a place a second chance. Two... no three... no four slices later, and Spaghetti Cat knew satiety, and knew new found respect for Pinocchio's. I almost walked out with the whole tray. I couldn't stop. Refusal was furthest from my mind, and only a hasty glance at my watch and an even hastier exeunt saved me from eating my weight in delicious doughy Sicilian slices. As for the Blue Fairy - she was a no show. I shall remain a blank eyed, haughty puppet cat for the time being. Perhaps we must endure being swallowed by the whale first?

I've read the reviews, I've heard friends rave, I saw the articles they've posted on the walls about professors not leaving Harvard because they would miss Pinocchio's. I guess I'm going to be one of the outliers here and say Pinocchio's ain't nothing special. Perhaps it's because I've lived in New York. Perhaps it's because in High School I worked at a mafia-run pizza joint in jersey. But really, it's because this pizza just isn't great and Bostonians don't know any better.

Pinocchio's is awesome! I have been a long-time fan of their delicious, desirable Sicilian pizza! They also have that great deal where you can get two slices of your favorite Sicilian slice for $4.25 +tax, which is great for students (like me) and people struggling in this economy for great food at a favorable price. I highly recommend everyone to drop by Harvard Square and give Pinocchio's a try.

Excellent Sicilian pizza at a cheap price. Usually, it's made right in front of you and the ambiance is kind of collegial and nice. Mostly a college student crowd, but it's small and cozy. Once in a while, it'll get loud and annoying, but that's happened to me once in many many times sitting down to eat there. Staff can be a little unfriendly and not super happy to see you, but hey, it's a simple pizza place. All in all, some of the best pizza in Cambridge... and one of the few places that I crave in the Harvard Square area.

This place has pizza so good it makes you wanna slap yo' Momma, so make sure that yo' Momma ain't home lest you roll up and slap her. The slices here are so delicious and cheap ($4.15 for two) that I want to buy a pair and make sweet sweet love to them. Maybe I am just a romantic when it comes to pizza...and having sex with them. This is a dive pizza place. It is right on the corner, down a little alley, without the big sign this place would be practically invisible. The inside of this place is tiny with only a handful of table (maximum of ~20 people can sit here at any time). I like a more intimate setting for my pizza experience so this is perfect for me. The parmesan and red pepper flakes are communal and kept to the right of the counter so put your shaker back when you are done...or else I can't spice things up with my pie. The Sicilian pizza here is amazing, in fact I would go as far as saying, if I saw someone here order something else I would be forced to maul them like a savage wolverine or Kodiak bear. The crust of the pizza is buttery and fluffy. I just want to dress it up in a teddy, break out a bottle of Asti and woo this deliciousness into my stomach. This place is open late and you can carry out as many pieces as you want (Ménage à trois?). Bottom Line: I wouldn't bring a date here because I would spend too much time chattin' up my beautiful, cheesy, pepperoni(eee) slice of decadence.

Seriously? All these reviews and no mention of the subs? Don't get me wrong, the slices are hah-mazing. But, their subs are incredible as well. Steak and Cheese, Cheesburger . . . it's all good. Case in point, when the subs hit the table, we usually go silent. Don't bother me, I'm eating. They're not doing anything special but making a good sub with some good toppings. Bring a napkin. My recommendation? Go with a friend and split a large steak and cheese and a tomato basil slice.

I almost forgot to update! I finally tried the Sicillian! We were starving, but saving our appetites for a huge dinner coming up later that night, so I committed to eating no more than half a slice. I think this was one of the most difficult things to do that required more willpower than I could have imagined. :) This pizza was deliciousness itself. You can't come to the Boston area without coming to Pinocchio's. Ben Affleck knows.

Pretty good pizza. It seems most people get the Sicilian slice special. While I was waiting for my pizza to be made, he sold a lineful of those. At $4 for 2 slices, that is quite the deal. It was my first time in so I opted to just get a large pie to split. I found the price for a large 1 topping to be very pricey at $15.95. However the pizza was good. I could tell the dough was fresh. The onions on top gave it a good kick. It wasn't really anything overly special though. It didn't give me that wow, this is a unique pizza feeling. It was pretty basic, cooked in the round pan with the chewy crust. The sauce was better then most run of the mill pizza shops. I've had better, if I were to go back I would try out the slices special to see what I've been missing apparently, for now an OK.

Went in here for the Scoutmob deal. This is some of the best pizza I've had in Boston. I got the Sicilian style with spinach. The bread is thick and fluffy with a nice crunch on the edges. Service was fast and there are a lot of topping options if you're looking just to grab a slice.

I secretly love coming in here and spacing out in a food coma, staring at the pictures of Ancient Rome and what could very well be the largest and finest collection of outsider art based around Pinocchio. This place still wins when it comes to late night slices in Harvard Square. You can get two slices with toppings for under $5, which is unheard of. I usually go with an Artichoke and a Spinach (no sauce but a lot of salt and garlic). The slices are pan-fried (Sicilian-esque) and delicious. I've had the ziti before when I wasn't in a hurry, and I was impressed.

This place is the balls, honey. DON'T EVEN FRONT and get a regular slice. This place is famous for their Sicialian pies. You go there and you get 2 pieces of whatever-a-you-a-want-a for like 4 bucks and change. Take it over to the park and scope some hunnies in the spring air while you eat it. Don't listen to those guys playing music infront of Pete's Coffee though, they are balloonheads who cover Nickelback songs. I'd suggest getting a mushroom and then one with onions and other silliness all over it. These slices aren't too saucy, keep that one in mind. It's a favorite of mine though. I'd say if you want a quick slice and you're in Cambridge, ante up and if you can find parking nearby get a slice of this pie. You'll love it.

I went to this place about a week ago with my friends, and i must say i love this place. sure we did get lost in Harvard trying to find this " little hole in the wall" place. But once me and my friend finally go there that place fragrance of nice backed pizza filled the air....yummy There were two different types of pizza styles in this place. The Sicilian : is a pizza that is in the form of a rectangle. you can pile on so much stuff ( peperoni , spinach , etc) on it . the original : is a regular round pizza that only have pizza and peperoni on top of it . this place is fabulous. Plus they make great fries too! This place open from in the morning till ...get ready for this one....2am. It's open all night . this place is loved by college students and tourist alike! I really recommend going to this place if you are around the Harvard area!

Pinocchio's is cheap, fast, and delicious. Get their veggie slice if you want a straightforward slice of pizza -- seriously can't go wrong with this one. The spinach, mushroom, and local classic zucchini are great too but they might surprise you with their lack of tomato sauce or liberal dashes of herbs and spices. Not any less good: simply different. If you go for lunch, don't be dissuaded by the long line sometimes going right out the door. The line moves quickly and efficiently. You often shout your order from the back of the small dining area to the counter and by the time you pay and move to the side it's ready. NOTE: not all slices are available at all times. Be a little flexible with your order. Try something different.

You've seen Full House, admit it. And when you watched Full House, you had to have a favorite character. It wasn't DJ, because face it, she was just too risque for your pre-teen self, and it definitely wasn't the Olsen twins, well, because, they're the Olsen twins and that's just creepy. So it had to be Steph. Because in a good way, she was plain, just cute enough not to be hot, but still lovable. And that's what Pinocchio's is just like. By no means is it the best pie in New England, or even Cambridge, for that matter. Emma's has it beat on both toppings and crust. But for your normal corner pizza place, where you can grab a slice for spinach and not break the bank in the middle of the night, Pinocchio's has all the rest beat.

On our first day in Cambridge, I took my bf to Pinocchio's Pizza. He picked a slice of sicilian pepperoni and I insisted he request a corner piece... while he wasn't impressed with the look of the pizza, after his first bite, he scarfed it down! I was able to sneak a tiny nibble but had to be quick! We took a few pics of the pizza connoisseur enjoying a great pizza experience. He wanted to try the cheese-steak sandwiches too but those will have to wait until our next trip to Cambridge likely for the next Harvard-Yale home game!

I want to move to Harvard Square just so I can eat this pizza every day. But alas, I have to be content with ordering a whole pizza and take it home with me back to the 'burbs because they don't deliver that far out. Pinocchio's = My favorite place for Sicilian and probably my favorite place for pizza in Cambridge. Really what's not to love? Massive, thick slices of awesome. It's so light and soft... and the crust, UGH. So buttery and crispy. I've never been disappointed. Every pizza is perfection with a perfect ratio of sauce to cheese. My parents, being Asian, hate cheese and pizza, but they love Pinocchio's. Note to the uninitiated- don't be put off by that thin layer of oil floating on the top of the pizza. Don't even think about draining it or soaking it up with a napkin. The pizza's so effing tasty the way it is. Their regular pizza's ok- above average, anyway. But the Sicilian's where it's at. For drinks- meh. I find that I head over to Boston Tea Stop next door, but the root beer they have stocked is pretty tasty. Seating can be a little difficult, but I find that spots clear up every few minutes or so if you're willing to do a little waiting.

  • Kenneth F.

The pizza was almost....fluffy. The crust was crispy. The prices were great. I should have tried some more interesting toppings (I just got 1 pepperoni and 1 mushroom). However, I'm sure any of their pizzas will taste good if they're created the same way - yum. My first restaurant in Boston was a good one! :)

I will admit that the pizza is pretty good for a late night pizza spot, but it's not legit. I asked for a plain slice and I got a cheese Sicilian. BIG DIFFERENCE. Especially if you are from NY like these jokers think they are. It was really the attitude that ruined it for me. I said, "I asked for a plain slice, not a Sicilian." All I got was a shrug and an indignant smirk. Unacceptable jerk attitude. Not going back.

It really is the best Pizza. This is a basic pizzeria, not somewhere to go on a fancy date, but the pizza really is out-standing. Myself and friends ordered a large regular and a Sicilian pizza. Both were just outstanding, the regular had a great crisp crust, and we got it loaded with all the meats on the menu (it was a heart-attack Sunday) and this thing was so un-greasy and tasty. The Scilian was this big square pizza that was just light, tasty and delicious. I really can't say enough about how good this pizza was. The staff weren't particularly friendly, but with pizza this good who gives a flying f**k! :)

This is the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. It's fucking amazing. The short time I was in Boston I must've come here 50+ times. The only other thing on Yelp I've awarded 5 stars is Korean girls. And the only reason I live is for Korean girls. That's how ridiculously awesome this place is. Order the square Sicilian slices, the regular shaped slices are mediocre. The subs are average. But omg those square pizza slices are sooooooooo fucking good. This cannot be overstated or exaggerated. I've searched for something comparable but it hasn't happened. This shit is AMAZING. Pure orgasmic ambrosia. Trust me. Anyone who disagrees with me is my enemy for life. I hate you.

If you come to Harvard Square and go anywhere else for pizza, go ahead and wear your tourist badge with pride. This is a local haunt that I always hit up as a student, and nothing beats their Sicilian slices. The two slices for $5 deal is still up, and considering that you can get a full, tasty meal with drink for less than six bucks makes Noch's a must for anybody with a nose for cheap, delicious deals.

DELICIOUS! Open late night. Perfectly delicious at a late hour. I always get the artichoke thick slices sprinkled with lots of hot pepper flakes. The line may look long, but it goes fast. Credit is only accepted for purchases above a certain amount, so remember to bring your cash. (Or bring a friend with cash.)

Great slice of Sicilian pie for the money....4 slices and 2 waters for me and a date came to $12....less than it cost to park. I grabbed a slice of tomato basil and pepperoni...the dough is perfect, sauce is good but not overbearing and it's not dripping in greasy cheese. if you want me to breakdown a slice of pizza anymore than that then you have issues.

Was driving around Boston today and was dying for a slice of pizza! I decided to go to Pinocchio's I have never been there in awhile. When I arrived there was a steady flow of customers but the line moved fast. It was hard to chose between all the delicious options but today I went with peppers cheese and pepperoni! It was delicious as always! Love this pizza place!! Definitely a must try! I have been going here for years, the pizza is always consistently great! They have pizza slices ready to go or you can order your own hole pizza! Highly recommended!!

I've had good food experiences in Boston, but Pizza has always troubled me here. I've never been to a terrible pizza place, but so much of it isn't what I grew up thinking of as "pizza." It's often fancy-schmancy ingredients on some crispy flatbread masquerading as pizza, which is great, but sometimes you just want plain old pepperoni or mushrooms on a thick, chewy, delicious crust. Pinocchio's is just that. I hadn't even heard of the place until my friend and I were sitting in the little park across the street and saw some no-nonsense looking dudes eating these thick, square slices of deliciousness and we immediately decided: we had to find that pizza (thank goodness the name was clearly printed on the box, because I'm not in the business of approaching big tattooed men and asking them where they got their food). The place was small-ish, but there was enough seating for us at 7:00 pm on a Thursday. They have a two-slice special for under $6 so we got that and two bottles of IBC root beer. The slices came promptly and they were steaming hot! (Don't you hate when you get pizza and it's only sort of warm and by the time you're done with the slice it's cold? That won't happen here unless you're one of those pathologically slow eaters who insists on making conversation while everyone else is trying to eat.) The crust was chewy, the sauce was sweet and tangy, the cheese was gooey, and the toppings were, well, fine (I mean, it's pepperoni and mushroom, there's not a huge spectrum of quality there). It was perfectly satisfying and I would definitely go there again next time I'm in Harvard Square and have a no-nonsense pizza craving. Important thing to know: there's a $7 minimum for credit cards.

I love Pinocchio's possibly more than my family. This may be the best pizza in the world. I still prefer Chicago style but Pinocchio's is a close second. It's impossible for me to pick a favorite slice. The buffalo, spinach, BBQ, and pesto are all great choices. The crust is magic - it'll mask any deficiencies in toppings, so don't fear being adventurous and try something weird. The pizza is worth a special trip.

While I was studying in Cambridge, Pinnocchios was my go-to spot for quick, cheap and tasty pizza. I must have gone here at least 40 times, and I almost always got the 2 slice special. I've tried pretty much all the slices (regular and Sicilian) and my all time favorite has got to be Tomato Basil. Sausage, Peppers & Onion, and Spinach & Tomato are a close 2nd. The subs are also pretty grub. The inside is rather small so seating options are limited. However, service is pretty quick and most customers (busy students) seem to prefer eating on the go, so it never gets that crazy in there (unless it's raining!) Also, there is NO bathroom! If nature's calling, try next door or across the street. The next I'm in H-Sq, I'll definitely have to pay you guys a visit--for old times sake! Thanks for all the memories and, of course, all the delicious pizza!

I actually ran in front of a cop car when I saw this place since I heard about it from the Harvard students. The police woman flagged me over, and as my friends watched, I was stunned by how she didn't look like any cop I've seen before. She was a cute Jennifer Garner type, and though that's not my type, it caught me off guard. She let me off with a warning and my friend was joking that she was too hot to be a cop. Agreed. Anyways the thick slices here are solidly okay. What brings this down to 3 stars is that it's just lukewarm. So think of a thick slice of bread with slightly cold sauce and lukewarm cheese and slightly cold pepperoni. I'm not a lukewarm or cold pizza fan, that's why I asked them to heat it up extra hot. If this is extra hot, I hate to see what their normal warm time is.

God I love this place!!! Buttery, crispy, Sicilian slices done right!!! I love the spinach and tomato slice!!! Yum! I haven't eaten anything except the pizza slices, so I can't speak to anything else. Get your slices heated if it didn't come right out of the oven! Parking is a mother, so make sure your footin' it!

Best late-night snack for Harvard students and locals alike. It's known that Boston goes to sleep a bit early, so gotta head over before the last-call. Tomato & Basil pizza is a classic and a must-try. Cant go wrong with the others, either, if you're a true pizza lover. Subs were pretty solid, too. What makes it more memorable is when you randomly run into a couple of your drunk friends late-night cause it makes great stories to tell.

The pizza is delicious! There is a decent selection of different pizza toppings from the regular stuff like mushroom, pepperoni, cheese, etc or more exotic flavors like Buffalo Chicken, BBQ chicken or Artichoke hearts. You can order the whole pie or by the slice. I came here late Friday night and they had run out of a good portion of flavors, but I tried the Buffalo Chicken, Sausage, and Onion and Pepper. I liked them all, but I liked Buffalo Chicken the most. The crust was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I totally recommend this place if you are looking for a quick bite or late night munchies. A big slice of sicilian pizza for about $3 YUM. The place is small and doesn't have too much seating, so I don't recommend coming here with a large group. Also, did a little pizza hopping that same night and tried Ottos right after (also in Harvard Square), definitely liked Pinocchios a lot more! The pizzas are very different from both places. Ottos was also good, but it's a little more expensive and doesn't have that yummy crispy crust and soft dough on the inside.

The pizza here is good. If you are drunk however, the pizza here is FAN-FRIKKIN-TASTIC. It's greasy, crispy and there's plenty of cheese. And yes, the pieces are square. The style is kind of like a tamed-down deep dish pizza; it's thicker than a regular slice of pizza, but not on Chicago-deep-dish level. It's good, try it for the novelty of Harvard Square, but let's not get crazy, there's definitely better (sober) pizza to be had.

Food: 4 Stars Service: 3.5 Stars You have to like thick crust pizza to enjoy what Nochs does the best. If you prefer thin crust and something more innovative, you should probably take a trip to ottos. I find that on a tiring day or if I'm looking for something to just fill me up, Nochs does the trick very easily. The portions if you order an entire pie are humongous, and great way to spice up a party. Very historic to Harvard Square

Some of the best pizza I've ever had in my life! Ordered a simple slice of cheese pizza and a Greek salad. The pizza dough was so light and fluffy yet crispy and crunchy at the same time, I could have eaten three more slices. Also sampled the sausage and artichoke, both delicious as well. Cute little place, not a lot of seating but there were free tables. I could eat this everyday if I lived nearby. Greek salad had so much feta cheese on it I could have fed three other people. A little disappointed in their pre-packaged Ken's dressing though. Excellent prices, less than $3 for a slice, can't beat this place, try it if you have the chance.

I went here for a quick lunch today with some friends. I had a small slice of their cheese pizza which was quite good. It was square pizza with a crunch crust and a pretty sizable slice for the price. Will definitely be returning for more! Overall: great pizza for a great price

Came to Harvard just to explore for the evening and get some good old college food. When we couldn't figure out where to go for staple college pizza he suggested this place. My friend and I visited right after the pride parade this summer and boy was the place packed! Fantastic smelling pizzeria though, so we knew we couldn't leave. My pizza was delicious and I would recommend this place for non college students and college students alike!

My husband loves the show Suits and he had put this place on our MUST GO list when we visited Harvard Square so he could tell his friends that he knew the Harvard Law dormitory tradition of getting square pizza from Pinocchio's and Mike (from the show) didn't. Picking my battles here. We did the Harvard tour and it ended just around the corner from Pinnochio's so we popped in before we headed back to Back Bay. We ordered two slices - one buffalo chicken and one pesto shrimp. Both pizzas were good. Meaning, not mind-blowing but good pizza. The crust was nice and crispy, medium tossed, and an ok amount of toppings. Inside has a few tables and bar seating against the window. The place is good for grab-and-go or to quickly eat. Nothing crazy special, but good pizza.

Pinocchio's will always be a favorite of mine. They have the best Sicilian pizza around. I also love the wall art of Pinocchio and the whale! Although, it is a small space the staff are friendly, the food is served up really quickly and the pizza is always delicious!

  • Scratchie S.

This is the place. Best pizza in Harvard Square and best Sicilian slices in Greater Boston for at least 30 years. I've been eating here since the early 80s and the quality hasn't changed at all (I'm not sure the staff has changed, either). Having kids now, I've had the opportunity to try their thin slices, which are also quite good.

After dining at Micheals Deli, the sandwich artist suggested we try Pinocchios when we visit Harvard. That was not only an amazing sandwich he made, but he also gave us an amazing tip. Pinocchios was the first place and time I've had a true Sicilian slice of pizza. I've had the frozen ones, but non could compare. The atmosphere screams hole in the wall. as for the interior there isn't much place to dine if your going in with a big group. But I enjoy that type of atmosphere, sort of makes you feel homey. The pizza was huge for one, it was soft and soggy/gooey at the top ... but when you get to the crust it had the perfect crunch to compliment it. I had a pepperoni and mushroom piece, but the sausage blew all sausage pizzas I've had in my opinion.

  • Esther Y.

Yowza. Now this, my friends, is what a Sicilian slice should taste like. Oh, what did you say, Pinocchio's? You want to give me TWO slices for $4.40? Fiiiiinnnneee, twist my arm.

  • Elliot R.

From the west coast, I was excited to try the diverse pizza places on the east coast. This place surprised me with its hole in the wall feel and square pizza. It was definitely a good experience, especially the special 2 slice for 5.50 deal. I would recommend this place for anyone who has not tried a good slice of Sicilian pizza.

  • Ashley Z.

Overrated in my opinion. The pros: a good amount of pizza for your money. Slices come in squares, and are sizable, with thick crust, at a reasonable price. That puts the pizza is a completely OK territory, but not great. Think of the "average" pizza with a slightly thicker crust. Ambience is pretty hole-in-the-wall. If you're really craving a slice and are nearby, or just want drunk food late at night, this could be a good stop, else I'd pass.

I've been coming here for over 25 years. It's one of my top 3 or 4 pizza places. I see many reviews referring Pinnochio's as good drunk pizza !! Sober, drunk, detoxing, fresh out of rehab, whatever.......this is awesome pizza ! I like both the Sicilian and regular pizzas. The crust of the Sicilian pizza is tender and chewy yet crispy, providing different textures for your taste buds. The thin crust round pizzas are also delicious. The problem getting any thin pizza to go or having it delivered is that it begins to steam once the cardboard box is closed. For this reason it's best to eat any thin pizza right when it comes out of the oven. This is not an issue with the thicker Sicilian slices, The Sicilian slices reheat much better than the round thin slices. So they are the better "to go" option. The thing that sets Pinnochio's apart is the quality of the ingredients they use. The sauce, cheese, and pepperoni they use are top notch. In all my years coming here I've never even tried the pasta meals. So I cannot comment about them. The meatballs are made fresh on site. The Subs are also very good with the cheeseburger sub being my favorite. It's the best cheeseburger sub I've ever had. They are open late and the staff and owners are great. What more could you ask for ? If you have not been yet. You have to try Pinnochio's. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.

This place is a great place for some late night pizza in the Havard Square area. They make great Sicilian pizza. The dough is this and delicious, great sauce and a great choice of toppings. I also like that they sell Sicilian by the slice very cheap.

So let's say you're on your nostalgia trip - you're reliving your college experience. Don't skip Pinocchios. I promise the spinach sicilian is even better than it tasted when you would slink into Pinocchio's late on a Friday night, or on a cold Cambridge Tuesday afternoon during midterm season. And if you're feeling particularly nostalgic, as I was, get a tomato and basil sicilian too. There's nothing like it.

Great pizza. Thick cheese, fluffy dough, and tons of seasoning (tons -- I wouldn't be surprised if they put basil in their Diet Coke). The wait's always quick, and the staff is super-friendly (even at 2am). I'd eat here all the time if I lived on the Cambridge side of the river.

Classic pizza joint in the Square! I enjoyed every bite of each slice - even the crust! The pizza is fresh, thick, and perfectly cheesy and greasy and hot with the right amount of toppings. The Tomato and Basil is a solid choice. Card only accepted for orders over $7!

Here we go again, as I noticed this at other places as well during the bad economy of businesses not throwing out stale/sour/bad or borderline stale/sour/bad food. I ordered a meatball sub and it had that smell of meat gone bad. It didn't stink to high heaven, but it was at least borderline. I would have clearly thrown it out. In this recession, Pinocchio's natural instinct is to squeeze another day of sales with this bad batch of meatballs instead of discarding it, but was it really worth it for them to ruin their good reputation?? Now that I know how they do business I won't be going back. And I have been a patron for years!

Deep in the concentrated sea of college students, earth-crunching sandals, and hipsters is Sicilian style pizza that would make my Grandmother proud. Great crust and it's not easy to find a Sicilian Style pizza joint that makes par in Greater Boston.

The best thing about this place is value. Tiny as a one-bedroom apartment, there isn't room for large parties in here, perhaps only four small groups, but where else can you find two large slices of pizza for $5.50? And, a chicken parm sandwich for $7.75 that's actually decent? This is a favorite hangout for college students into the wee hours of the night, most likely because this place is affordable and the people working here are fun, personable and tend to joke around often with the massive number of tourists who come in here with maps like they found the promised land. Still, when in town for a quick bit, it's a decent slice of pizza that fills you up and lets you get back on your way without burning a hole in your pocket.

This place is my go-to pizza place in Harvard Square; none of the other pizza joints in the area can even compare with Noch's superbly done, cheesy, greasy, Sicilian pizza (can't go wrong with any of the toppings). The crust is crunchy, but the dough itself is so soft and spongy. Noch's is such a great, convenient pizza joint located near the dormitories, perfect for college students for a booster after dance rehearsals, midday lunch when the dining halls are closed, or late night snack. The pizza is always piping hot when they serve it to you, and makes it back to your dorm slightly warmish still even in the coldest of Cambridge nights. The lines are literally out the door especially late night on weekends, but don't worry - moves pretty quickly. There is very cramped/minimal seating inside the eatery itself, so I usually take my food to go.

This is the obvious choice for late night eating in Harvard Square-- it's dirt cheap, it's the only thing open when you just left the bars and are stumbling around, and it's freakin PIZZA! You really can't go wrong. The shocking thing that you might not be aware of, though, is that the pizza is actually still good when you're not drunk! Really! I tried it once, true story. OMG, WTF?!?! Amen.

FYI - I compare all pizza to NY pizza. I had Pinocchio's a few times when working in Harvard Square. While it wasn't the best pizza I have ever had, for outside of New York, I can't complain. The sauce has a good flavor and they use just the right amount of cheese, definitely satisfies the craving!

Pizza here is OK. It's the type of pizza that would taste great if you're also drinking beer, but as is the pizza is pretty standard. People complain about the small size of the venue (hole in the wall), but we usually just take our pizza and eat it outside on the steps next door. This place gets packed at night so plan accordingly.

Wonderful and unique little pizza shop in Harvard square! Offers a great selection of traditional and non- pizza styles, plus a pizza crust that's more like phyllo dough than pizza crust, it's so light and fluffy! The prices aren't bad, either.

"Pinocchio's Pizza": a popular pizza spot of Harvard students featured on the series "Suits" and mentioned by the likes of Ben Afleck and Mark Zuckerburg as a good eat. We tried the Spinach, Tomato & Basil, and Rossa? (Sauce, mozzarella, basil). The chicken pesto looks awesome. As well as the subs and several others. Crust was amazing. Light and fresh ingredients. Lighter, fresh sauce opposed to rich and paste like. Different than typical pizza. Definitely worth a few tries.

Was told by the tubby bastards (which I am also a member) from Newb comics in the Garage to try it. It was great. I only needed 1 piece, but of course went for seconds. They have a great 2/for price. Old world "Order from what we got or take a hike" gangster run feel to it.

So, long story short, I am the crazy hockey fan that flew to Boston from Phoenix to see the Coyotes play the Bruins on my birthday. It was a serendipitous event, as my dad is from Boston and, until Phoenix got a team in 1996, I grew up watching a lot of Bruins hockey. So my dad, brother, boyfriend and I made the trip to MA for my birthday. We ventured out the day of the game to aimlessly wander around in 12 degree weather and that lovely, lovely wind. For some reason we ended up taking the T to Cambridge from Beacon Hill, and I was starving and my Phoenician blood could not handle another second being outside (my dad, of course, kept saying it was "just a little chilly out" and proceeded to call me a baby 5 times). I found Pinocchio's on Foursquare and physically forced everyone in my group to agree on pizza and hoagies for lunch. It's a small place, but warm and inviting. We ordered our slices and a sub, and one of the employees who had been talking about the Bruins game noticed my Phoenix jersey. He joked around to another employee in the back about having a "problem" up front. Ended up taking a picture with the staff at the counter because they were such good sports about it (let's keep it real, the Bruins are DOMINATING and they know it) and just super friendly. Food was great! The mushroom pizza is awesome, as well as the pepperoni, and my dad's Italian sub was super tasty. They have the pizza dough down...it's fluffy and soft but crunchy at the same time. It's very reasonably priced - hell, cheap- and conveniently located and what really stood out to me was obviously a great staff. Thanks guys!!!

It can be pretty damned hard to find decent pizza in the Boston area, and although nothing will ever hold a candle to my beloved Chicago deep dish, the Sicilian slices at Pinocchio's are pretty top notch. The crust is amazingly fluffy, yet still crisp, the sauce is great (and subtle--not at all like that ketchupy stuff you find at lots of commercial places), and the slices come in squares (yes, pizza tastes better when it's cut in a square shape--this is just a fact). Pinocchio's is basically a very no-frills old school pizzeria that still manages to possess miles of atmosphere (be sure to check out the chart listing the Lewis structures for the molecultes of the different ingredients they use in their pizza, the Chem geek in me was pretty amused). The prices here are also quite reasonable--two slices (which makes for a very filling meal) usually end up costing less than five dollars. The only con here is that I always see the staff handling slices with their bare hands (I love hole in the wall charm, but just... no. I've seen enough men's ideas of hand washing to secretly wish for plastic gloves). Be forewarned that it can also be extremely difficult to snag a seat here, the joint is always packed, and for good reason: the prices are low, the service fast and the goods delicious.

Burnt crust, flavorless tomato sauce, bad cheese, run-down building, not especially friendly service. Can't think of a single good thing about the experience. MMM-mmm black carbon-ny flakes! Maybe the thick crust pizza is good, but thin crust plain cheese was awful. Certainly worse than both Oggi and Crazy Dough, neither of which are that great. So far Harvard House of Pizza best I've found in the area. ALSO: *not* cheaper than any other places in Harvard Square anymore. All the pizza places in the square seem to be a bit more than $3/slice after tax as of late 2014.

3 stars for a Harvard institution like Pinocchio's is heresy, isn't it? living in Harvard Sq vicinity for just shy of 3 years and not visiting this place until last night is equally heretic. Sorry, I was just...umm.. busy. But I give it 3-stars, because in new Yelp terminology it means 'A-OK', and that's what this place is. Slices were cheap - 5 for 12.50 (not all for me). and all sicilian. Toppings plentiful enough and the sauce tasty. Not your best option in the area, but definitely hit the spot when the hankerin' for za popped up post-flick. I probably would give this 4, maybe 5 stars if a. I wasn't sober last night b. I was 15 years younger c. both of the above. begrudgingly I was d. none of the above, so 3 it is. what I DO love about this place is that it is off the beaten path - and while everyone at Harvard knows about it, the tourists taking pictures of Out of Town news would never veer off JFK or Mass Ave to find it

REAL pizza! while walking around Harvard campus we heard a student mention this place.. Great advice--- finally a real pizza place and other quick Italian items-- none of this fancy smancy toppings of weird vegetables and strange proteins you might find in Cambridge area. Recommend for a quick lunch.

After missing this place three times during previous visits to Harvard Sq., Chere and Yelp Queen Liyaga brought me to this hideaway shack (unlike the Love Shack, which serves no pizza). You can get either regular or Sicilian style pizza with a variety of toppings (i.e. tomato basil and usuals) or cheese, all for less than $3 per slice or two for less than $5! Highlight of the place? The poster of molecular structures of vitamins and other ingredients used in their pizza! I even saw a Harvard kid work on organic chem while enjoying his slice. Talk about dedication! If I had my own pizzeria, I would name it Orgo Ps with specials such as these: 1. Diels-Alder Delight: (pepperoni and sausage) 2. SN1 Nucleophic Supreme: (pepperoni, sausage, onions, green peppers) 3. Grignard Radness: (pineapple, ham) 4. Zimmermann Vegetarian: (olives, onions, red and green peppers, tomato slices) Also, the restrooms will be labeled electrophiles (guys) and nucleophiles (gals)! Yes, I'm a geek :)

This place is probably more like 3 stars but given all the hype it gets I expected WAY better. I also complete disagree that this place is $ because I paid $18 for a large pepperoni. It's at least $$. The pizza was EXTREMELY greasy and I have never seen pepperoni so haphazardly thrown on a pizza in my life. Some pieces were covered in it and others had, no lie, a single piece. It was a Sunday at 11pm when I picked it up and it was not busy at all. I think there could be some good deals like the 2 sicilian slices and a soda for $5 or so but I've had the pepperoni sicilian and it was $30 for a large and the dough was very dry. Overall I am not impressed considering this place has legendary status. I'll stick to Harvard House about a mile down the road because they've yet to do me wrong.

My mother introduced me to this place about a year ago and I'm SO glad she did. They have the best pizza in Harvard Square and is probably in my top 5 favorite pizza places ever. It's literally tucked away in an alley... no wonder I had never noticed it before! I'm pretty sure they've been there forever because my mom said her and my dad frequented it when they were dating - ahhh young love. The food is inexpensive and the service is wonderful! There is always a line but it moves wicked fast. I usually stop in when I'm in Harvard which unfortunately is becoming less and less since moving to the black hole that is JP :(

Tried this place for the first time the other night after my friend wouldn't stop raving about it. Nice fluffy Sicilian slices with a great crispy crust. Greasy, filling, and delicious. If you're drunk, this place is magical. If you're sober.. go to OTTO.

Good pizza, but Pinocchio himself must take the takeout orders over the phone because he said the pizza would take 20 minutes when it actually took one hour.

  • Ches M.

Normally I would reserve judgement until I've given a place a few go 'rounds, but I was already a little annoyed when I first visited Pinocchio's -- so tough cookies, they get a C right now. Looks like I won't win many friends for saying so here, but this is underwhelming-ly mediocre pizza. Fairly cheap, fast, and convenient? Sure. Props for that. But if this is actually what passes for quality pizza in the Boston area, I have a feeling I'm in for some disappointment... I wouldn't actively seek this out unless I was leaving a nearby bar. My reheated slices were decidedly un-fresh, and were cold before I finished the first one. Crust suffered dearly from being twice-cooked. And not that I expect much from counter service, but it wasn't friendly. Freshness aside, flavor was pretty good on the tomato basil. Not so for the sausage -- really strange taste. And for the kicker, the trash was overflowing on my way out so I had to get more intimate than I'd like with the ever-frightening Pitch In Flap. To be fair, Pinocchio's doesn't make any strong claims about "authenticity" or the like, so I'm not comparing them to anything here. It serves a purpose, I just think that that purpose is little more than quick, cheap food that might especially appeal to Harvard kids. That, plus being a bargain in relation to a lot of what's around, does not equal a five-star pizza joint by my reckoning. I hope that I'll have reason to revise this review favorably in the future. I won't close the book on Pinocchio's until I've tried more toppings, a sandwich or two, and a whole pie so I can make a better call on freshness. Maybe going during lunch would help too. But as of now, I'm not buying the hype.

Didn't notice this place for years until friends kept pestering me to go to Pinocchios for the best pizza experience. When one finally managed to drag me there, I ended up going by myself the next two afternoons and sat by myself in a corner enjoying their heavenly Sicilian slices. They're enormous. They can barely fit on the plate. The crust is fluffy but doughy, soft but crunchy...how they achieve that nirvana of pizza-tude is beyond me. They stick your slice in the oven before they hand it off to you for maximum deliciousness. I'm not a risk-taker so I always get the plain slice. Open late. Worth it. - New Yorker

Sometimes, I wake up with a craving for the Sicilian-style pizza from this place. For me and my wife, this is the ultimate comfort food, and rarely have I had a slice here that I did not like. Its oily, but I love that crunch you get in the first bite. I'm particularly fond of their pepperoni, spinach, or just plain cheese slices. The non-Sicilian pizza is pretty tasty as well!

Excellent Sicilian style pizza. Always go with the tomato basil corner slice for extra crust. One of my favorite fast food pizza spots.

I am a believer. I never really ate Sicilian pizza until I went to Pinocchio's. It is the best pizza I had in the Boston/Cambridge area and some of the best pizza I've ever had in my life. I think you either like the Sicilian or you don't; and if you don't, don't bother going to Noch's and hating on it...because you just don't like Sicilian pizza. But if you like Sicilian pizza or there's a chance you MIGHT like it, go to Noch's. It changed my life, and I don't think I can ever eat pizza the same again. Noch's is super tiny...but of course, I've eaten in there multiple times. But on the nights when it's too crowded to even stand in there, I've actually just taken my pizza outside to eat in the freezing rain...because I didn't want it to get cold on my walk home. I only wish it would stay open later but otherwise, Pinocchio's is heaven on earth. The subs are good too. :-)

Pinocchio's is the best pizza in Boston and has been for years. It's run by local people and the atmosphere is casual and quick. Get the tomato basil- you won't regret it!

I love pizza with a good sauce:cheese ratio. Pinocch's has it. The counter people do not dissapoint, nor does the pizza. I like that if you get a fountain soda, the counter man gets it for you, that is old school. It is cheap too, especially for 02138. They'll heat up your pizza so it's pipin' hot and then hand it to you on a paper plate. I shake a lil spice on top of my slice of heaven, I mean, cheese and go on my merry way. By all means walk here, don't park as i literally had to fight the Phil's towing dude off my Kia. He fought back but I won, with my pizza in tow! Ha!

This place is definitely a Harvard staple. It's tiny and awesome to swing by if you're near campus because it's such a quintessential part of the institution. If you're drunk, the pizza is delicious - what's better than greasy cheesy goodness late at night? Not much, my friend. But if you are completely sober... it's meh. 2 stars, perhaps. It's small with a handful of tables. Expect a bit of a wait.

Nice, deep, thick slices. I don't know what else to say. Pizza the way it is supposed to be.

The pizza was good.As for the service I felt like I walking into a funeral .asked for a 2 slices of pizza and it's like I disappeared .wanted a take away box .and no response lol.I was recommended to this place by a friend to bad it wasn't that of a place as I was told.

Great pizza, great location...Sicilian Spinach: deeee-lish! Really, the local vibe and family-run atmosphere is what pizza is all about. I would give five-stars, but having lived in New York, I have eaten some of the best pizza on earth. Nothing compares, but Pinocchio's comes close.

I can already imagine the locals sharpening their pitchforks, but here is the truth: Pinnochios is overrated. You heard me. OVERRATED. If the greatest thing that can be said about a pizza is that it comes in a cool shape and size, why are we settlling for large squares?! It doesn't make any sense. Tweak the mold a little bit and you'll be a staple of frat hazings and bachelorette parties everywhere. No one would even notice it's actually mediocre pizza.

  • Shawn W.

Pinocchio's possesses a charming little hole-in-the-wall setup. The mural inside is interesting to say the least, but the rest of the place is a little more run-down than I would have liked. Not enough to turn me away, though. The pizza was ok. Considering the price and speed of the service, it was good. I'd tried both the pepperoni pizza and the peppers/mushroom pizza, and I think both needed more tomato sauce. They were also a little lukewarm. Maybe I hit the place at the wrong time. I'll probably return at some point.

PROS - Sicilian pizza is quite good in an oily, deeply satisfying way - Subs are also delicious and on-par with Al's down the road - Service is friendly even if they play pranks on drunk college students like telling them that their pizza slice will be $18 CONS - Non-Sicilian pizza is very underwhelming - Cramped quarters, so you can eat there for the atmosphere, but better to just walk around or scarf down your meal somewhere else - Overpriced compared to other equally good pizza establishments. A pizza costs $20? Someone call Domino's

I loved it! I had 3 slices- spinach, sausage and mushroom. Mushroom was just ok but spinach and sausage is a must try!

Dude, Pinocchios. Came here with my boyfriend who had been here before and remembered it as a small, unique space with bomb-ass cheap pizza. He remembered correctly. The BEST is the Pizza Rossa slice; sort of a margherita-esque flavor, with a red sauce, slice of mozzerella on top and a spring of basil. YUM! Took a visiting friend here a few weeks later, since you can order by the slice and try different kinds, all for cheaper than you'll find anywhere else in Harvard Square. The artichoke is also great, as well as the zucchini (healthy! right? ugh...) Took one star off because sometimes you get a slice that's been sitting for a while and its not a chewy. Still. Pro Tip: Sit near the window facing the door and gaze upon a laminated article in which Ben Affleck proclaims his love for Pinocchio's. Feel validated.

  • Drew M.

Delicious, good variety, and pretty cheap. Two square slices is enough for lunch, for under five bucks. Fast service, friendly staff, and a park right across the block to eat when it is nice outside. Doesn't get much better than this. Only other advice I have is that the spinach is a lot better than the artichoke.

  • Lorenz S.

On the surface, this is a mediocre pizza place. But that's a misunderstanding. In reality, this is the place to be after midnight in Cambridge, when this place suddenly starts to burst with excitement -- when Cambridge goes to bed, Pinocchio awakens, and you better be there!

This is THE Harvard students institution.... We used to lovingly call it 'nocs'... The cheap pizza slices curbed any hunger at 2am...and it was located nearby our house, so it was game all the time. Love it. Why? Cheap eats, compared to the other overly price crap in Harvard Square, and good people. Done Deal.

good prices. Each slice is pretty filling. Mushroom and spinach were great. Place is a bit small so u may want to come during non-rush hours if u have a large group.

Noch's was the first bite of pizza i had when i arrived in Boston, and hopefully it will be my last. This barely decorated pizzeria, tucked behind Berk's, is open till 1am (sometimes later). They serve up the best pizza in town with tangy tomato sauce, savory cheese, and a chewy crust. The reason to go: two slices of deep-dish, thick-crust Sicilian pizza for four bucks. You cant go wrong with tomato basil, spinach, or mushroom.

When I first tried Pinocchios, I thought I was in heaven. The buffalo chicken, tomato basil, spinach, and cheese pizza are all delicious. Honestly though, the more I have it the more I question its greatness. Good taste but nothing fancy and not really to die for unless you catch the perfect slice. The staff could be more friendly but I guess if I had to serve a bunch of Harvard students and tourists all day I'd get sick of smiling wide.

    (4)
  • Laura B.

The locals call this place 'Nocs for short. They have tasty Sicilian-style pizza, as well as regular pizza. The average regular slice will run you $2. Sicilian is about $3 per slice. A large regular pie rings in at $13. There are a few small tables inside, but no outdoor seating. They sell canned soda, as well as fountain soda. Nocs is a good, old standby.

I think what I adore most about this place is the college town vibe and atmosphere. The pizza is good- cut into thick squares and oozing with flavor and $100 of pizza scores you free delivery. The place was packed with folks when we came on a Friday night. It's conveniently located in Harvard square with a plethora of things to do before and after you eat here. P.s- the buffalo chicken pizza looks scrumptious- and this is coming from a vegetarian!

The spinach pizza is a fantastic nostalgia rush from my college days. But this review is all about the large cheeseburger sub. Wow. If you think it's good midafternoon (it is), just try coming back tipsy and late night. You'll thank me. A proud member of the sandwich pantheon.

Pepperoni and tomato basil - the best! The staff is always so friendly, they make you feel like famliy. My only complaint is that there aren't more Noch's around the country.

The noses must be growing on those who are ranting wonderful things about Pinnochios. We ordered a large cheese pizza--not the sicilian. It was far under our expectations, considering all the hype. There was no wow factor with the cheese, sauce, or crust. However, OTTO pizza is superb. Crisp crust, fresh cheese, and the sauce is placed not under the cheese which makes the crust soggy, but on TOP of the cheese in large circles. Authentic and DELICIOUS.

The pizza is okay. Its great because its open late, but the pizza really isn't worth the 4 star rating this place has right now.

Amazing pizza! The sauce is like wow. The pizza rosa is so yummy! So simple but so perfect. Tomato basil is also a solid choice. This is the perfect little pizza joint.

Great Sicilian-style pizza in the middle of Harvard Square - and it's cheap! Try the classic tomato basil. Or, if you want to try something more unusual, try the artichoke! They also have subs, regular pizza, and other food, but the Sicilian pizza is the reason they're so popular. One slice is $2.25, two slices are $3.95. Always open until midnight, sometimes open until 1 or 2.

After hearing that this was Mark Zucerkberg's favourite place, I decided to drop by here for a quick bite on the last day of my trip to Boston. (I hope I become a computer genius after eating here!) We arrive near lunch time and the place is busting with people. I guess when you put a good pizza spot near a high concentration of hungry university students, you're bound to draw a crowd! It was packed, but somehow still managed to be orderly. You can order pizza whole, or do what most students do and order individual slices. Or you can do what I do and order the $5 for 2 slice special! I ordered the Zucchini and the famous Sicilian. I was a little disappointed that the Zucchini pizza didn't come with tomato sauce (pretty much only the Sicilian comes with sauce), but despite that I loved the pizza. There must be crack in the pizza dough because it is SO GOOD - crispy and chewy at the same time! And if you are wondering, yes the famous Sicilian really is worth it's praise. Order it. NOW.

  • Sarah S.

Two Sicilian slices for less than a fiver? Why yes. Yes indeed. I always order from the veggie pizzas that are freshest, and my preference lies with corner pieces (hey, I love me some crust) of tomato basil and pepper and onion. They're open late, and even though the lines are often long, they move fast. Minus one star because I haven't seen this old guy who used to call me "honey" or "sweetie" or "sugar" or "sweets" or some combo ("what'll ya have, sugarsweets?") in a while. Booo, bring him back!

Pinocchio's serves awesome, cheap pizza. Go for the deep dish pizza - I probably don't have to tell you that, but if I do, then I'm glad I did. It's delicious - crispy, with tasty sauce and high-quality toppings. The sausage and tomato-basil are my two personal favorites. The slices are big - two of them should be a solid meal - and cheap, too. One thing that I've noticed about the pizza at Pinocchio's is that it's exponentially better when it's fresh. So, I recommend eating your slices at the restaurant (if you can get a seat - it gets crowded), rather than getting them to go, and asking the guys that work there (who are awesome, by the way) which pizzas are fresh out of the oven. If you let it get cold, the pizza's only pretty good. In sum, Pinocchio's is a great place to grab lunch, and it's also a fun place for drunken late-night munchies.

There are two places to get pizza in Harvard Square--Pinocchios and Ottos. Both are good. I would say that Pinocchios is more authentically a Harvard Sq. place. If you are just visiting from out of town, I would recommend Pinocchios. If you are here all the time, you should be eating at both pizza joints frequently.

  • Maria S.

My favorite pizza in Boston/Cambridge. Period. It's thick and perfectly seasoned. Don't leave without trying the tomato basil--it's 10 times better than their plain cheese and probably their best. Spinach and artichoke are both really good as well. Stick to one of these three and you'll be safe. Not a date place (trust me, you will not impress), seating is cramped, limited and lacks any sort of ambiance.

Is there better cheap food in Harvard Square? (Hint: no.) $4 for 2 generous (square) slices, delicious pizza (all those people down there are not lying about the tomato basil--GET IT), a variety of other menu items I've never even gotten around to trying because the pizza is so good, and friendly workers? No wonder Noch's (this is what the locals call it, hehe) has all those positive recommendations and reviews on the walls. Caveat: If you're going to pay with credit card, there's a $10 minimum.

    (5)
  • Derek D.

The pizza here is fantastic. My favorites are the pepperoni and tomato-basil with crushed pepper on top. If you are going late at night or on the weekend, I recommend calling your order in ahead of time as the place is usually packed. When you call ahead, you can just walk straight to the front and tell them you are picking up an order that you placed on the phone.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!!! I used to work down the street and would frequent this place almost everyday!! I still work for the same company but in a different location and I tell all the noobs to go to Pinocchio's for the BEST SICILIAN PIZZA EVER!!!!

  • Duke C.

Sicilian style pizzas. Had two different pizzas here, but in the Sicilian style: Spinach & Garlic (white) and the Tomato & Basil. The Spinach & Garlic was the favorite out of the two. Very strong garlic flavor, which is what I like! Can't go wrong with the Tomato & Basil, which is essentially a margherita. The pizzas had a really nice crunchy thick crust with a chewy center. Took me awhile to find this place though since it is tucked away in a corner, and no real signs either. I can only imagine how good this must be late at night.

  • Esther W.

My review is for the steak subs, not the pizza. Because I don't actually believe that thick breaded aka sicilian pizza is real pizza (i'm a ny-thin-crust-pizza-type-of-gal). I'm sure they taste good and fine but it's just not what I order here. BUT. I really really am a fan of their steak subs. Greasy yummy drippy steak subs with grilled onions and mushrooms and hot peppers and pickles and tomatoes and lettuce and mayo and CHEESE. It's best after midnight after you've had a few beers. Split one with a friend alongside your pizza slices next time!

Best Sicilian in Town, Been going here since I was a kid. Joseph's pizza on the corner of Huntington and S. Huntington is a close second but Pinocchio's rules! If you looking for scillian this is the place, its not pollished and can get crowed late night but man is it good. I reccomend trying to order what ever is the freshest but re-heated is fina as well. Really like the spinach garlic & cheese and tomato basil but there are all good. Its really filling as well dont order more than 2 slices unless your starving. Also great if your having a party get a whole sheet for like $35 bucks and they can slice it small like finger bights serves about 8-10. If your craving a good slice of Scillian GET ON IT!

  • Jon L.

I usually hate this kind of pizza (Sicilian style). I grew up eating huge slices of thin round pizza in New York and while I am definitely not an aficionado, I know what I like. I like Pinocchios. Easily one of the of the better places to get a slice of pizza in Harvard Square.

  • Allison C.

Nicest staff and nicest customers! Grazie mille, Pinocchio's! The pizza place is a small, little joint just off of JFK. There are several topping combinations available. TOMATO AND BASIL is classic choice, but that SPINACH one - wow! Loaded perfectly with ingredients. Most of the pizzas are Sicilian style, which makes for a nice, thick golden crust but not too dense. Feel free to request the corner/outer pieces if you want more crust. Stop by for a full pie (wait time, maybe 10 minutes depending on your toppings), or have the two slices special for just under $6. You are welcome to pick up cheesesteaks and whatnot here too.

Pinnochio's should really change it's name to "HOLY FUCKING SHIT EAT THIS PIZZA" because that's what I think of when I pass by. Not that lying, sinful puppet-child.

    (5)
  • Josh M.

Good, not great in my opinion, obviously there is a lot of competition around the area and I think Oggi is a more tasty option, Regina pizza too for that matter. I think the place is great, don't get me wrong, but whenever the subject of pizza comes up, everybody mentions Pinocchios and I just think they are a tad bit overated.

    (3)
  • Alex T.

The only thing that stands out about the pizza here is the shape in which the slices are cut. The taste of the zas here are OK, definitely a great option for the price in the Harvard Square area but still leaves much to be desired. The thick crust is usually soaked with oil, overloaded with cheese, and generic canned tomato sauce. I can imagine oily dough tastes like heaven with a belly full of beer, which probably explains the high Yelp rating. The shop is also very small and nobody really eats here, most people usually take their pizzas to go.

Such a hidden jewel and such a Harvard memory. How I love Nochs, a classic hole in the wall. I have been here multiple times, and on all occasions. The late night drunk food when there's a a huge line at 1am in the morning. The slight comfort from studying for exams, when we'd lock ourselves in the library, get Nochs, for lunch and dinner, and then rush back. The weekday nights when we just felt like drinking after a long day, and what better food to pair alcohol with than greasy pizza? Or just me wanting to be anti-social, stopping by for a slice before going home and immersing myself in readings. The prices are cheap - $2.80 for a large, greasy, delicious sicilian slice. And a variety of flavors too, most of which are already baked and they warm up for you. You can even get your pick of whether you want your slice from the side or middle of the pie. I tried to get the owners to start a rewards program (for example, buy ten slices get one free) but right now I've been faced with reluctance. And then there was the day in which we ordered 10 large Sicilian Pizzas for an event, of which only me and a friend were tasked with carrying back to Harvard Yard. Of course, we borrowed a handtrucks to carry them, but not before I was covered with the smell of Nochs. There you go, I was living and walking advertisement. Nochs, I really should get that discount now.

While I think Pino's in Cleveland Circle produces a better Sicilian slice, Pinnochhios makes it so that I don't feel like I have to drive 3.5 hours south back home to Brooklyn to get my pizza fix. Granted, I've been making pizza at home more often but I still from time to time venture out to Harvard Square from Cleveland Circle just to get a fix.

You can always rely on a great Sicilian slice. My favourite is the BBQ chicken--the sauce is a great balance of sweet and sour.

Some may say I am a connoisseur of pizza, others tell me I'm an addict. Regardless of the truth I got my fix this past weekend at Pinocchios in Harvard Square. I love when pizza places do Sicilian pizza right and Pinocchios has mastered the art. I have been planning on venturing here for years but FINALLY went this past weekend. The crust is to die for and the cheese is delicious. They are very reasonably priced and have many different topping options for their pizzas (I ordered Tomato Basil and Pepperoni but they also have Buff Chicken amongst other styles). For as simple as this pizza place seems they really have pizza down to a sweet delicious science and have been making pies for years. Credit cards for purchases over $7 but other than bring some cash money and indulge! *I only didn't give it a 5 star rating because I prefer Galleria Umberto but this place is much more accessible than GU (no lines!).

  • Joe G.

It's not bad. We actually ordered a whole pizza from here. Pizza is good, no denying that, only problem for me is the amount of thickness in the bread. It's a lot of bread to deal with for a pizza and I'm from Chicago. So I know about deep dish Sicilian style pizza. That being said it's not enough to keep me away. The location is key and I will be back.

When I first moved to Boston, I was pretty disappointed at how early everything shut down. Back then, right outta college, 2am is when things would just start to get interesting. So, I was walking along one night around Harvard Sq, about 2am, my stomach growling for my post-midnight, pre-breakfast meal, and absolutely NOTHING was open...well, except for 7-11, but that doesn't count. People were stumbling out of the local bars and piling into taxicabs, when I looked down one narrow, dimly lit street just off of JFK street. A crowd was forming around a small shop, so I decided to investigate. And there it was! A pizza place open after 2am on a saturday night. Pizza is my favorite food, and I was hungry. Now, I'm not very snobby about much of anything. Afterall, I get my coffee for $1.75 at Burger King rather than at the upscale, coffee-roaster-happy Starbucks. Pizza on the other hand is another story. Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, I had the best pizza I've ever had anywhere. So, my standards are pretty high, and Boston's pizza selection is embarrassing at best. Upper Crust is just "okay" and please don't sing praises of Bertucci's in my presence. It's really just brick oven baked crap. Pinnochio's on the other hand comes the closest to what I used to get at home (for $5 a pie back in the day). The "regular", thin crust slices are perfect. The sauce is not too acidic and the cheese adheres to the crust really well, rather than just sliding off in a big sheet with the first bite. Their Sicilian slices are pretty damn good too. The prices are not bad at about $2 a slice. I've had a whole lot worse for a whole lot more here in Boston. And while brick ovens may be how people made pizza since dinosaurs roamed the planet, the pizza doesn't really turn out all that great with all that dry, burnt flour stuck to the bottom, waiting to suck the moisture right out of your mouth. So, I'm glad to see Pinnochio's hasn't succumbed to that marketing gimmick. Pinnochio's also serves subs, which I've never tried. The service is quick, so don't get intimidated by the line going out the door at 2am. It's a great place for a really casual date, after which you could blow the money you saved at Burdick's on Brattle St. for some heavy duty, industrial-grade hot chocolate...but that's a whole other review....

  • Alissa S.

Now that the Sinclair brings me to Harvard Square more often, this was the perfect discovery last night for post-show pizza. My friends and I all thought the simple cheese was for some reason the best, and the $5 for 2 slices deal is perfect (trust me, you'll want the second slice. Don't lie to yourself and then steal your friend's). We had no trouble grabbing a table even though they were doing pretty steady business. A previous reviewer pointed out that the pizza is elementary school cafeteria-like in its consistency. This is totally accurate, but like that reviewer said, somehow it works (at least at 1 AM when I'm just happy a place is open to sell me some carbs).

  • David H.

This place is legendary. Forget the fairy tale name! Tucked in an obscure spot of Harvard Square, this pizza shop truly is a hidden gem. The sicilian slices are extraordinary! Each slice is thick, crispy, large, and packed with just enough toppings to deliver extra satisfaction without having to pick up dropped items from your plate. Two slices should be enough to feed just about anybody, making it a great meal for around $5. It's a shame that this place hasn't been rated as the best pizzeria (nearby Crazy Dough's, in Harvard Square's Garage, was once considered to be the best pizza in the USA, but I think that's an extreme overstatement). It's great for takeout, late night, or just to grab a quick bite. If you are currently within 20 miles of Harvard Square, stop reading this, get into your Toyota Corolla, and try this place out- you won't be disappointed!

  • Christopher C.

If you're in Harvard Square and in the mood for pizza, this is the spot. Big slices, lots of toppings, and a good price. Look, it's still just pizza but since Cambridge is short on good pizza places, Pinnocchios tends to stand out. Great place to hit up after you've had a few drinks at a nearby bar. I'm pretty sure they stay open late specifically for the bar crowd so I highly recommend you swing by if you need a late night snack. The inside is pretty small with not a lot of seating but hey, one of the best things about pizza is you can hold it in your hands. Definitely recommend it!

  • Josh K.

This pizza has gotten me through many a hungry night. I always just order the Sicilian pizza, which is delicious. I've been meaning to try the subs here -- I've heard they're actually good, but I can never get over my pizza hunger when I'm in the joint to eat anything other than the pizza. I do acknowledge the existence of (debatably) better pizza in the Greater Boston Area. But Pinnochio's is definitely worth at least a taste if you're near Harvard Square. The place is a little cramped, so don't count on getting a seat especially around peak hours.

Pizza is delicious and affordable. Staff is insanely nice. Create variety of food. Would have received 5 stars but the difficulty of finding a seat knocked it down. That could be a good thing...

A must if you are in Boston, or Cambridge to be exact... drive in from Boston. Un-frikkin believeable slices of heaven. They look heavy and dense, but once you pick it up and bite into it, it is airy, light and yes buttery. That's prob what they put into that makes it so good. The toppings are many, I had the tomato basil... too damn good. Went back the next day bc had to have it again. A must!

My infatuation with Pinocchio's began in 2010 when I first tasted their Sicilian slice. I was in town for my cousin's wedding and on the morning after the reception, the wedding party was ravenous from dancing the night away. We went to Pinocchio's and placed an order for a large Sicilian pie with hamburger. They quoted a wait time of 45 minutes which was painful to hear, but at least we knew they were making a fresh pizza just for us. When our pizza was finally ready, we carried it back to the hotel and dug in. Several giant square slices of steaming hot pizza with gooey cheese and a soft, fluffy crust later, we all agreed in unison that it was the best darn pizza we'd had in a while. Since then, I've been back to Pinocchio's multiple times and more recently, the spinach Sicilian pizza has stolen my heart. It is a white pizza loaded with spinach, garlic, and cheese galore. So good. A must if you're in the area!

1 AM on a Friday night. It's reunion weekend. I stumble into Pinocchio's with a couple of friends. We hadn't seen each other in years, but we don't miss a beat. We used to come here as students--on the many weekends when we couldn't score a date or get into the finals clubs, we'd settle for a slice and shoot the breeze about summer internships and Sartre. Now it's "Did you see Jenna? How did she get so damn hot?!" "The real question is 'How did she end up with that prick Stanton'?" This bonding would have no reason to happen but for the food: the best late-nite chow in New England, bar none. Who remembers when a slice of Sicilian cost $1.90? Well, the price has gone up, but it's still worth every cent. The sandwiches are superb, too. Nostalgia is the name of the game at Pinocchio's; the food tastes as good as it ever did. One visit to 'Noch's brings up the best memories of the good old days.

Pinnochio's is the little pizza shop that could. Mighty flavor, tiny price. Minimum to use your trusty plastic friend is $7. Two slices at $5, grab a drink, & swipe away! Their regular triangle-shaped cheese slice is awesome, cheesy, greasy deliciousness. And they have granulated garlic!!! Not as enthused with their square sicilian slice...too much bread, skimpy on toppings, but still tasty as all get-out with that crisp bottom, chewy middle, & savory top. Late-nite pizza shop that bursts at the seams come midnight.

Not the best pizza ever, but a decent option. Their pepperoni pizza was much better than their meatball sub.

  • Angela S.

I split a small pepperoni pizza with a friend. I guess this is one of the few places that is open late around Harvard. It only took about 10-15 minutes to make a fresh pie, it was pretty good.

Forget everything I previously said about this place. Sicilian pizza isn't meant to be consumed cold. We got our hands on some fresh Pinocchio's and are now huge fans. The crust, always is perfect. However, when you eat it warm it has just enough greasiness to it that it tastes perfect. My favorite is the onions and peppers. I don't know how to slice the onions and peppers so perfectly thin and circular, but who cares, it tastes great. Their white pizzas with just tomatoes and basil is good as well. If you get just a cheese pizza, its still a little bit lacking in cheese, but the sauce is perfect. All in all, I'm in love.

I was smashed, they were open and didn't make fun of me falling up the stairs or slurring. 4 stars, done!

  • Joshua R.

Overrated in my opinion. I'm a sucker for buffalo chicken pizza, but I'd have to say I like even the Domino's version better than here. The deep dish is hard to find around the Boston area so that's a fairly unique offering, but not really good enough to get me coming back for more.

    (3)
  • Raj B.

If you're looking for NY style pizza --- this ain't it. It's thin, but not crispy. And the size of the slices fail to sassify. It's not bad for Boston though considering the plethora of wannabes. Worth repeated visits until you find better. That's where we are currently.

  • Billy T.

Super pizza crusty and tasty. I take one artichokes and one spinach. The spinach is very good. You feels the topping like fresh one. Best pizza I eat until now in the US :)

  • Rebecca S.

If you've never been to Pinocchio's...RUN! This is hands down the best Sicilian style pizza you will find in Boston. This place is tiny and even a bit grimy, but its totally worth being elbowed by drunken frat boys on a Saturday night for a slice of tomato basil. The pizza is also quite cheap and comes out fast.

Me and my slice of Sicilian VS. the slightly inebriated girl walking toward me and yelling "That looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO delish right now - I wish I could get some" [unfortunately, she was referring to the pizza slice - not me] Who wins? Pinocchio's for quick "DELISH" slices of pizza goodness that attracts random people off the street and their longing looks - the girl actually stopped and bit off the corner of the my slice even though I had already eaten half of it and I was a complete stranger to her! Tomato and Basil Sicilian = A = nice springy dough with a snappy buttery crust covered with a wonderfully fragrant sauce and sliced fresh tomatoes - oh so yummy! The 100+ awesome reviews for Pinnocchio's tell it all...

the pizza was nice n thick, but it wasnt all THAT great. also, the venue is SUPER tiny and there isnt any outdoor seating. laaame. but it was definitely a life saver to find late at night when you are hungry and ready to head home from the bars. meh.

You know a pizzeria is good when you eat at another one, and say to yourself "Hey, this is pretty good, but boy do I miss Noch's." Living on the west coast I've learned they don't do pizza the same, and I don't think I will ever find a place that matches Noch's. The memory of crispy yet soft and tasty bread of a sicilian slice (preferably tomato and basil) is enough make my mouth water. The only thing that makes it better is if you catch it fresh out of the oven. Even better prices are reasonable, especially with the two slice special. It's no question that they are a Harvard Square icon. It goes beyond pizza though. The Philly cheesesteaks are something of a cult favorite. It was all one of my co-workers would ever eat, and got me through many a hard day during the two and a half years I worked at the Staples across the street. If you haven't eat here, you should. If you can't decide where to go, here's your destination. Hey, they even deliver.

One of the spiritual epicenters of Greater Boston, as far as I've found. There's just something about this place. In more conventional terms... Two slices: $3.95--that's including tax. I always tip $1.05... Open until, what is it? One? Two? Three in the morning? Three on weekends, I think, but it could be two.... The slices are delicious--so far favorites are the spinach and the zucchini slice, but for some reason I ususally order "One sausage, one mushrooom." This shit is so good I have carried one of my two slices to people I value, even though I really wanted to eat the other one, because I wanted to give them the joy I was getting and would have gotten with either one or two slices. Pinocchio's is on my phone's contact list. Secret gem; hidden jewel. Call it what you will. This place was in my initial Holy Trinity as I looked around Boston for what was what, along with Simon's Espresso and L.A. Burdick drinking chocolate parlour and patisserie (um....and chocolaterie, okay) for my first two months in town, until Clear Flour and 9 Tastes hit my pantheon. Oh; and they're friendly, friendly as hell. Thanks Pin's; please keep it up. Addendum, Feb. 2008: The steak and mushroom sub--same story. :)

Cheap and delicious! The spinach sicilian is unbelievable. And to top it all off they carry Orangina!

  • Courtney H.

This review is more of a reminder to myself that Pinocchio's is delicious and I should get pizza here more often. Their Sicilian pizza is light, crispy, and topped with delicious, fresh ingredients. They always have a variety of slices, and they're cheap, too! Can't beat that!

Well i was introduced to this place from a friend going to Harvard...(oooh lala) But wait this place is Nice Nice!!! better known and Nocch's (i was corrected by my friend) Oooh lala But you order the Sicilian slice its really the best way to go.. i prefer the tomato basil it seems to be the most popular so ur most likely to get a fresher piece cuz they seem to make it more often.. the the crust is flaky doughy and buttery... some people say the Sicilian slices have too much bread.. but hey if the bread is well made and good then no problem in my book.. they have good deals for 2 slices you might as well go for it.... so basically check it out.. its open late and always seems to satisfy

    (4)
  • Alex L.

When you think of pizza in Harvard Square, the only place I can ever think of is Nochs. After living around the corner for 4 years, Nochs served as a great replacement for the ever-so-crappy dining hall, as well as the standard spot post-party. Probably better known for their Sicilian tomato basil, I've recommend the cheese steak with everything (including salsa). While not the same as a Philly cheese steak, this bad boy knows how to hit the spot.... hard. One of the few things I could probably eat every day and not give a fuss about.

  • Kristin S.

Once again, a place where I've never had the pizza! (I just don't eat pizza in Boston apparently...) What draws me here is the $5 baked ziti. Fantastic. When you're lunching in Harvard Sq everyday being able to get a huge yummy cheesy baked ziti (and the traditional sides it comes with) for so little is a real treat. I find the service is generally quick even though its always packed.

  • Randolph P.

Wow... Some of the best Sicilian Pizza I have ever had. The crust is absolutely perfect! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This is a hidden jewel in Harvard Square. Yea the place is basically a hole in the wall and some of the staff are kinda surly but its worth it!

    (5)
  • Abdullah A.

It's late. It's time to get food after all this partying. Nocch's is the solution. Nothing great - I would not particularly call it an Italian gourmet spot - but Pinocchio's stands for quick pizza late at night. I think that this is not only great but much needed in Harvard Sq. Keep it up monsignori!

    (4)
  • Jessie H.

OMG. Best deep dish spinach pizza eva! You must try it out next time you are in Harvard Sq. Crust that is crispy on the outside, yet soft and chewy, garlic and tons of spinach. mmmmmm. Most people probably wouldn't know this place exists. I swear the same guys have been working there for the last 10 years at least. Although I only go in there once in a while they are the types that never forget a face.

    (5)
  • Ellen W.

They're quick, tasty and their sicilian is to die for. Cheesy, greasy and a quick walk if you don't get run over on J.F.K. St. The owner's really nice, and it's a little hole in the wall that rocks. Everyone should give the place a shot!

    (5)
  • Derek B.

Whether you're looking for a good thick sicilian styled slice of pizza, or are incredibly drunk stumbling around Cambridge, 'Noc's is where you need to be. If you can find a table during it's prime-time people watching hours of 1-2am, then sit back and watch the drunk show unfold.

    (4)
  • Shane F.

Open late and great food. Basically go to Pinocchio's to get Sicilian slices. The crust is puffy and the toppings are yummy. I like the tomato Basil. The slices of regular are good, heavy garlic, quality crust, but next to the two slices of Sicilian deal they are really expensive for the amount of food you get. The subs are a little bland stick with the Sicilian slices. Also, you can request a corner slice or a middle slice depending on if you like crust or not.

    (5)
  • Doreen X.

You haven't had a night out in Harvard Square until you've stumbled into 'Noch's past twelve. The sicilian slices are what you'd want in any good post-drinking food: juicy, substantial, and easy to hold.

  • Nupur L.

Went here for the first time when it was past midnight and the first cold day of the fall. I ate two slices of the Sicilian with tomato/basil and spinach and I declared that it was good but I didn't get all the hype. Well, I wanted more just an hour later. I managed to drag myself away from the fridge where two more slices waited (yes, I buy in excess) and went to bed. I woke up the next morning and popped it in the oven. It reheated beautifully and boy, was it good. I still crave Pinocchio's occasionally. It's like eating crackers with squirt cheese-you don't want to love it as much as you do.

    (4)
  • Jay L.

Best eggplant parm sub I've had in I don't know how long. Lots of sauce, just the right amount of cheese. Sub roll nice and crispy on the outside. MMMmmm...

  • Anya S.

Anyone who rates this under 5 stars clearly hasn't tried the sicilian. That's what people come to pinoccio's for! There's nothing quite like it. It's the tastiest everyday pizza. My favorite is tomato & basil. It's the perfect balance pizza. Plain is great too, by the way. If you want a slice of regular "triangle" pizza - this is probably not the place for you. (read my other reviews) An by the way, you'd be surprised how full you get from just 1-2 pieces. You'll be stuffed for the rest of the day.

    (5)
  • Anya H.

Nice flavorful sauce but I thought it overpowered the cheeses a little. Still very good thick crusted pizza. Friendly people too.

    (3)
  • G S.

Best pizza in Harvard Square. Maybe even in all of Cambridge. I haven't had better. If you want a sub, go somewhere else. This is the place for Sicilian pizza. It's super cheap and super tasty.

    (5)
  • Nathan R.

There's something about the cheesy mural on the wall and the guys behind the counters thick accents that make me love this place- oh yeah, the pizza is good too. I dig the Sicillian the most. The pepperoni is kind of skimped on, and yet greasy; however, the crust and cheese helps me to overlook these flaws. The spinach and feta isn't too bad either.

    (4)
  • Buzz C.

Well, their pizza looks good - LOOKS good. The taste, well, the taste is rather bland, and I got two different kinds. Both tasted basically the same. They both tasted like the olive oil that they're drenched in and I had a stomach ache afterwards. So, I would NOT recommend Pinocchios pizza, at least. I can't speak for their subs. If you really like olive oil, order their pizza; it doesn't matter which kind; it all tastes like olive oil.

I grew up with Pinocchio's. I'm so glad it's still running and apparently as tasty as ever. This is my favorite pizza in the Boston area- just wonderfully gooey, huge, and flavorful. Everything I want in pizza! Thank god somethings haven't changed that much about Harvard Square!

    (5)
  • Rich O.

On a recent trip to the Square I stopped in. Good to know a little of old Harvard still stands. Crispy tasty Sicilian and Neapolitan slices is about as far as I ever get but really, that's all you need. Good pie, good price, old Harvard attitude.

  • Regina F.

Best. No-frills. Slice. Of. Cheese. Pizza. You. Will. Ever. Have. In. Your. Life. Beyond the overstated: gooey, melty, fatty, shiny cheese that coats a piece of expertly baked pizza crust that isn't too think, and far from too thick, which is also coated in delicate red sauce with amazingly flavorful nuances that timidly scream BASIL!, there's not much else to say. It's tucked away a bit, so unless you're a die-hard pizza fanatic searching for your perfect slice of regular homestyle cheese pizza (none of that fancy mahrgkjafkjita or however it's spelled crap), then Pinocchio's is your place. If not...I suggest you get a new take on life and stop trying to be some pretentious food snob.

  • Scott B.

Best pizza in Boston. It's quick, cheap, open late, and tasty. Other places might be a little better in one of those categories, but there's a reason Pinnochio's is always full. You have to travel a ways to find another by-the-slice place that compares.

    (5)
  • Tom G.

Chicken parm damn good. Owners are great, pizza is solid and that's from a NYer Stop and have a slice at least

    (4)
  • Aaron D.

Two slices and an orangina... perfect lunch. The tomato and basil is excellent, but pretty much anything there is top notch. The crust is great, so assert your right for at least one corner slice (settling for a side slice is also acceptable). Not really the place for ambiance and can be drafty in the winter, but really who cares?

    (4)
  • Sarah D.

This will be a short review because you pretty much come here for one thing: sicilian pizza. They do it right, and unlike a lot of places where sicilian doesn't sell and sits under a lamp all day getting nasty, theirs flies off the shelf so it's always fresh. The dough is fluffy and the cheese and sauce are nice. It's a niche market, but when the craving strikes, this place is up to the task. Also, they sell Orangina. And it is very cheap. And the slices are pretty hearty.

  • Cport J.

Best pizza of this style anywhere, although I've been to Sicily, and I never saw this kind of pizza! With two big slices for under $4, it's one of the best deals anywhere in the city for cheap eats. I also love New York style pizza, but I don't really dig the thin crust at Noch's. But the Sicilian slices, with their thick and bread-y yet still light crust, are just perfect. I recommend the tomato basil (no red sauce). Cheese and sausage are also good, and the pepperoni is better than most (I used to like pepperoni, but for some reason I can't stand it at most pizza places these days). The cheeseburger subs are also really good deals (especially with hots!). It has become a Harvard Square institution, although not at the level of the legendary Tasty, and it's usually open late (I hear the hours are more regular these days, but it used to be questionable whether they would still be open after The Grill aka The Crimson aka Redline closed).

    (5)
  • Scott S.

Cheap, fast, and good. Hard to go wrong - especially considering the pricier, snootier, slower places in the neighborhood. They have a great selection of slices ready to go at any given time. Great place to stop in for a quick bite. My only beef is that it gets crowded in there sometimes, and it can be hard to find a place to sit. But, generally speaking, if you wait a few minutes (i.e., by the time your pizza is ready), you'll have a place to sit.

  • Christie K.

Boston / Cambridge was freezing and this pizza made it bearable. I had the thick crust sausage, it was like heaven. Sooo delicious!! Next time I go there I'm definatley getting a hot sub! It looked soooooo good!

Tomato Basil Sicilian. You'll never want another pizza for as long as you live. Don't go here for the regular slices. Go here for the Sicillian. It's amazing. The staff is wicked friendly and the service is quick.

  • Naomi U.

3.5 stars actually Their regular round (not the square Sicilian) is the more NY style of the two. Very yummy, friendly, inexpensive, clean and Open Very Late for the square. I just wanna know how they and Charlie's Sandwich Shop can get away without having a 'guest bathroom' when they are in the food business. It's been there forever...but I think the mural was different when I visited Boston when I was in high school...back when the Garage was a movie theater.

  • Jennafir E.

I have yet to experience better pizza in Boston. You cannot miss this pizza. The thin slice was my favorite, but the sicilian wasn't to be missed either. It was the perfect sauce to cheese to meat ratio. The sicilian crust was heavenly, sooo good. Now, if only they would move to allston.

  • Jason L.

One word: OVERRATED. It's not terrible, but I really can't believe so many people like this place so much. Maybe it's the New Yorker in me, but this place really seems pretty mediocre--I've gotten pizzas fresh, I've come at different times, I've tried multiple kinds of pizzas...and never have I really been impressed. I've been to super-cheap ratty places in Long Island and Brooklyn that've left more of an impression on me than this joint. I've picked burnt pieces and hair off tastier slices than theirs. This and Crazy Dough's seem like places with a lot of hype but not much flavor. The only reason I'd go back to Pinnochio's is because it's often open later than most places in Harvard Square. Tip for anyone looking for good pizza in the area: try the Upper Crust--a bit more pricey, but definitely tastier and more consistent. Bertucci's is also pretty good, but of course it's not in the same class (being more of a sit-down restaurant rather than a pizzeria). Some of the pricier pizzas at Cinderella's are also pretty decent.

Walk in, order the sicilian special, (2 slices and a sod), ignore the barneys (rich harvard kids not from MA) walk out, shake off the pretentiousness, savor the pizza on the sidewalk, go back later.

Awesome pizza. My friend and I ordered a large sausage, onion and bell pepper pizza to go which was great, but it was kinda expensive. If you want something on the cheap then get one of their "pre-made" and waiting pizzas. The mural on the wall is kinda scary though. The place overall is not the best to eat in so I would say take it to go.

When I was a young high schooler in Cambridge, I'd stop here multiple times almost every week. Wonderful thin crust pizza. No frills, just always got the cheese. SO GOOD. It's tucked in the corner off of JFK on Winthrop Street and there aren't many tables, but it's worth it just standing, I promise. You'll just end up inhaling your food anyway.

it's been so long since i've had a slice of this pie. i'm on the west coast now so i'll write a review instead! very fond memories of this place :) whether it's a slice or sub for lunch, dinner, late night. this place never disappoints. very good cheap eats! sure enough.. i will be back to eat here the next chance i get!

A great pizzaria for sicilian slices. Veggie, pesto or buffalo chx, and tomato basil are my go to slices. Two slices cost around $5 and its well worth it. Slices are crispy and flakey. For cambridge, pizza pinnochios is probably number one. If you are in harvard sq make it a point to go here.

    (4)
  • Mike C.

LOVED IT Sicilian style pizza is doughy and crisp on the bottom. Gotta love the dough to enjoy this pizza. My faves were the spinach and the Veggie. Two slices for 4 bucks is a great deal. And they're huge. And open late!! I haven't tried a lot of pizza places in Boston yet but this is definitely one I'll be coming back to.

Yes, it's a Harvard institution, yes, it's primarily late night drunk food, and no, it's not the nicest place to hang out around. Still, there is something about Pinocchio's siren call that appeals to my inner Homer (both Odyssey and Simpson) at 2 am. Even knowing full well that I will hate myself for it the next day, I stand in this cold line for a greasy square of bread and cheese debating whether or not to get a single slice or save a few cents per slice with their 2 for $5 deal. (Cash only so count out that pocket change!) Pinocchio's is the place where you can see the future leaders of tomorrow nutritionally destroying themselves today. The standard pizza that they're known for is a sicilian slice (thick and square) although anyone from NYC can attest that it bears a poor resemblance to most sicilian slices. It actually reminds me of cafeteria pizza from grade school with more dough and more cheese. I know that sounds disgusting but for me it has a certain nostalgic appeal. It's too greasy, it's too soft, there's not enough cheese, the sauce is under flavored... yet collectively, this combination of distasteful attributes congeals into something... dare I say, glorious? Go to Pinocchios. It's the embodiment of insecurity on a plate.

    (4)
  • Brian C.

This place is best known for the Sicilian pizzas, which I think are a bit too thick and spongy for my taste. I prefer the regular slices that are best straight out of the oven. If not they always warm it up for you. Very friendly guys here. Seating is hit or miss. Sometimes I end up sharing a larger table with a stranger which is no biggie.

Cheap, chewy, yummy, doughiness. The perfect late night pizza. $5 for 2 slices, how good can it get?

pinocchios is a treat every time i'm in harvard square. the pizza is very tastey, but its a bit claustrophobic getting in there, or sitting down. its best to get a slice to go.

  • Duncan P.

The only spot for pizza in Harvard as far as I'm concerned. Open til 2 am! Huge, cheap sicilian slices that really hit the spot (there's normal pizza too but honestly why would you get that unless you're dumb). Anybody who says OTTO is better is some sort of sick weirdo with a brain problem

    (5)
  • William B.

Look. I'm not saying it's the best pizza in the world, or even the best pizza in Cambridge. But I am saying that on a five day visit, I came here three times. (Spinach and tomato-basil are the best; pepperoni is horrible; the rest are pretty good.)

    (4)
  • Stephanie S.

My very first lunch experience in Cambridge was Pinocchios and I really judged it. The place is tiny, looks dingy and gross, but somehow always has a delicious slice. It's everyone's favorite post-bar eatery, but I have learned to love it in the day time too. Once you realize the food in Cambridge is either expensive and delicious or cheap and okay, you'll find that Pinocchio's is actually a great little pizza shop.

    (4)
  • Moises F.

Convenience, convenience, convenience. Did I mentioned convenience? Pinocchio's is the GO TO place when you are coming back from a crazy night out in cambridge or downtown boston. They are open until late with the one thing that you are craving for: a cheap, greasy and hot meal to chase all the alcohol that you just took. Pinocchio's is at the heart of HS, it is a relic and every Harvard student has been there at least once. They offer a variety of toppings (many veggie options) and the mozzarella cheese they use is pretty tasty. However, lets face it, the overall quality of the pizza is bad, service is super slow and I bet there are all sorts of bugs inside that oven. That said, the value offered is greater than the cost, so it's totally worth it. All in, long live Pinocchio's!!

A MUST visit / a Harvard institution. Has been around for decades. Great sicilian slices. Just a fantastic hole in wall place. Eat here, go home happy.

  • Gabi H.

Love this place! Lots of pizza options, thick crust, lots of drink options, open late, and tons of history. As a student, i love this place because we can drop in any time and get a quick, cheap, but salty bite to eat. Literally the place to go for late night cravings, a fun dinner, or meet up for a quick lunch. This place grows on you quick despite some major cons: not great service, a cramped space, credit card minimum charge of $7, not enough tomato sauce, and the crust would be better if it was thin oven baked style. Overall, what wins you over with this place is cheap prices for large slices, the history, and convenience (if you live close by).

  • Anand J.

Best slice in Harvard Square, hands down, and one of the better slices I've ever had. I first visited Noch's about 7 years ago while visiting my cousin. Now, after at least 100 visits, any time I'm in the square, whether for a haircut, to shop, or hang with friends, I find an excuse to stop by for a slice of the delicious pizza this quintessential, late night, Harvard Square hole in the wall delivers. Each bite of the sicilian slices start with a slight crunch of the outer crust, yielding to a chewier body that delivers fresh ingredients and sauce to my waiting taste buds. The taste and texture satisfies whether eaten after a night of drinking, for a quick lunch, as a study companion, or a casual dinner with friends. Pizza varieties abound from your typical cheese and pepperoni, to zucchini, spinach and garlic, and pizza rosa. At $2.80/slice, you can't go wrong, but why stop there when $5 gets you two perfect sicilian slices? Scared of those scrumptious squares? Fear not! Pinocchio's is great! If you want the thick crust, deep dish type of pizza, it really hits the spot! I like the zucchini, tomato basil and mushroom. The only complaint is that once, I ordered a whole pizza for pick up and the middle pieces were pretty soggy. I don't like soggy pizza, who does? There are a lot of pizza places in Harvard Square, but I think this one takes the cake.

Ok, so I'm already biased because I don't like thick crust BUT that aside I ordered a slice and they put it in the oven.. A few minutes later they give it to me. Cold and doughy in the middle. It happens. I ask them to heat it longer, and they do. Cool. I come another time, and the same thing happened! Cold, doughy, please reheat. They pop it back in the oven, forget about it. Burned to hellllll. They put in a new slice for me. Again, cold and doughy. At this point, my friends are done eating so I just ate 1/4 of it, threw the rest away. Swore this place off.

A tiny slice of heaven in the madness that is Cambridge. Cars whizzing by, manic bicyclists, crowds of pedestrians. Escape it all by slipping into Pinocchio's for a slice and a soda. This is what Blondie's in Berkeley wishes it could be (and I say this as a graduate of Cal). Delicious pizza, good prices, and a nice atmosphere.

After several days wining and dining in Boston, stumbled across this place just 200m from my hotel on my final night before heading back to Europe and what a find. Two slices of probably the best Sicilian pizza I've ever had for $5. Fine dining it ain't and the tiny dining area is bleak and cheap but more than made up for by the food. If you're visiting Harvard, check it out, you won't be disappointed. And did I say it was $5 for two generous slices?

The original square slices are really good but a bit greasy. It's pizza after all. Really convenient location especially for people living close to the river houses. I heard Zuckerberg really likes it and stops by when he visits the campus so if you are there you may casually run into him. Apparently it is one of the very few places open after midnight in the Square and by the river houses.

This tiny little hole-in-the-wall is a staple of Harvard Square. The pizza is good, not great. It's very greasy and sloppy - the cheese and toppings slide right off so make sure you get plenty of napkins! I personally prefer Crazy Doughs or Stone Hearth they have more variety. Don't expect anything fancy here - they just do the basics. I do like that they have both regular and Sicilian. The place itself is tiny, so you'll probably have to get it to go unless you come at off times.

  • Pedro R.

Ok the pizza was delicious and with great quality but the sandwiches were not as expected, the meat was quite simple for the price of the sandwich in general. Also another bad thing is that there are NOT restrooms, in other words if you are a tourist, you can't take advantage of the bathroom and that is a bad thing. Only for the pizza I could recommend it.

Definitely my favorite pizza spot in the Square. The guys are friendly and usually busy but when it's slow they are sweet to chat you up. Their pizza is great the tomato's are fresh and the buffalo chicken is just right. I also loved to take friends and family who are visiting for a late night snack to show them another side to Harvard.

Love their crust!! I'm not a pizza person at all - AT ALL! And the bf got some pizza here on a day-visit to Cambridge, old time's sake. He told me how Ben Affleck apparently still comes back to get his dose of pizza here and how they claim to have served as bribe to bring some Stanford profs to Harvard. They can make your order fresh, customized, to your liking and fancy!

When moving to Boston, I tried for months to find a NY style pizza place that would deliver to me, and came up empty. Whenever I visited NYC, one of my top priorities was always eating good pizzeria pizza because I knew I wouldn't get it at home. Then I discovered Pinocchio's and it mostly solved the problem. No delivery, so I would have to dine in or pick up a pie on the way home from work. But otherwise, a pretty classic and satisfying pizzeria pizza. If only they offered delivery, this would be an easy 5 stars.

Apparently this little place is Mark Zuckerberg's favorite pizzeria in all of Boston, so of course I had to try it out. This was just one stop of many while my friend and I toured the Harvard campus. One huge, warm, gooey slice was enough to sate my appetite. Along with a drink, I think I was out about $4; I love college towns. The mural of Pinocchio flinging pizza slices at seagulls and a whale is a particularly charming piece of art to mull over while you chew your pie. How did Pinocchio end up in that situation? How is that pizza so aerodynamic? How is that whale not full with all that pizza he has eaten? What does it all mean? Deep stuff for your deep dish.

For the uninitiated, this is a late night Harvard Square institution. It's where you go to get your aching bellies filled after a night at the Kong, as few places are open that late, offering the yummy, greasy and yet so tasty pizza slices that I've come to love. It's located in a nondescript corner just beside JFK street, so if you don't know it, you won't find it. But when you do, you'll be surprised at the fragrance wafting out of this hole in the wall! I've tried quite a few of the different flavors - mushroom and pepperoni remain my favorite two flavors. Not a place I would pop in for a quick afternoon snack, but if I want my late night grease after a night out and I'm near JFK street, then this is the place to be!

Not bad, pizza is pizza. I got a slice of the sicilian tomato basil pizza ( yelp.com/biz_photos/4y49… ) CRUST was bomb... SUPER SUPER crispy on the outside, but perfectly chewy inside. BUT, the toppings and cheese on top were just whatever. Not too bad, not too good. One little gripe i had was that they put like an OUNCE of cheese on top.. it was BARELY ANYTHING, but eh, it still tasted okay. I think there's way better pizza options in boston, but this place ain't too shabby if youre looking for a quick bite to eat and youre in the area! OH, and its located in a pretty sketchy back alley :)

I've eaten here before and loved the food and had decent customer service. Today, I was very disappointed. The staff seemed disinterested and the pizza tasted really old. The "chicken" on my pizza was the size of crumbs and tasted like crap. Absolutely disappointing.

There are few things I miss about the east coast now that I'm in LA but this joint is near the top of the list. Flavorful pizza served by a fun staff and a great location. LA pizza is garbage and I every time I make the mistake of eating it I think of how great this joint is. When I visit I usually hit this place 2 or 3 times. Thank goodness I'll be back for Christmas.

The place to get late night pizza. Pretty small area but they try really hard to serve people fast. Slices are tasty and are usually $3. Don't plan on sitting if you're arriving late on Friday night or weekend. You'll see crowds of people lined up... The pizza itself is square, greasy, and delicious.

The pizza here is so good. My friend and I shared slices of the Pizza Rosa, Tomato Basil, and Mushroom. The bottom of the pizza is nice is crispy but the top part is so chewy and fluffy. The dough is amazing. The Pizza Rosa is plain, with just tomato sauce and a dash of basil on top. Some slices came with a piece of mozzarella. I don't think I'd order it on my own because it's so plain but the sauce was delicious and again, the dough is so yummy. The mushroom was so delicious. There were plenty of mushrooms on top and the cheese was perfectly melted. The ratio of cheese, crust, sauce, and toppings was perfect. Similarly, the tomato basil came with slices of tomato, cheese and basil. Also very delicious. I'm so excited to find out about this place and I will definitely be coming back!!!!

My 12 year old son was with me as we were watching a swim meet. Stopped in here around 10:30pm because he was starving as was I. He wanted to know why so many people were eating the same time that "late" at night. I briefly explained that many of these were students just getting ready to go out for the evening. He then told me he is SOOOO ready for college. Lordy. For 2 a slice decent quality. Fast. Friendly people. Recommend it.

I'm amazed that people have given this place such good reviews. Just because Zuck used to eat pizza here doesn't mean the pizza is good. I was disappointed to come here after reading rave reviews and getting served stale warmed over pizza (additionally they screwed up our order) -- even my kids wouldn't eat it. Let me repeat that: My kids did not want to eat their pizza. Their pizza is too bready (bisquick like) and they totally skimp on the cheese. If you're looking for a great pizza dive then go to Supremes Pizza on Mass Ave in Boston.

It seems unnecessary to add another great review to the pile, but I'll add this - while the pizza is the star of the show, the subs are all really good - especially the cheeseburger sub. It's probably the best sub, ever, anywhere.

NIce sicilian style pizza slices! There is no bathroom but the pizza and subs are good. I had the sausage, peperoni, and vegetarian pizza slices and all were good. This is a nice cheap and tasty meal near Harvard Square.

Hahahaha, this was a unique experience. The person who manages or owns the place is rude, abrupt, and clearly could careless what you think about his gruff attitude. Now this could be his schtick (Soup Nazi character from Seinfeld) and had the pizza been to die for, I would have ignored him and his bark, but the pizza was meh...Of course after just spending a few days in NY and experiencing some incredible pizza, it may have made me a bit of a pizza snob. I had the spinach, mozz, garlic slice. Oh baby there was garlic, but flat tasting. Hubs, was just as unimpressed with his slice of pepperoni/cheese...flavorless.

Boston pizza tends to suck. Sorry, but it does. Even Pizzeria Regina is mediocre compared to what other cities (Chi-town, NYC) offer. That being said, Pinocchio's isn't bad for a quick, cheap bite. Yeah, it's not fresh (cold pies sitting out there waiting to be "reheated" in the oven) but it won't set you back more than a few dollars and if you come at the right time, there's enough seating for you and your sweetie. For more unique offerings though, check out Zing.

  • Laura B.

I don't know that this is the best pizza in Cambridge, but it is definitely the best value in Harvard Square, hands down. Every time I come here, they never have the first pizza I order. "One spinach, and one veggie please?" "We don't haaaave spinach! You want tomato-basil??" "Uuuuuuhhhh suuuureeee...." Just tell yourself that everything happens for a reason, because usually the piece I get that I didn't initially want is fresher and tastier than the one I did order. In the future I might even ask for whatever slices were made most recently, since you're taking more of a gamble with how long ago those pizzas were made than how delicious the ingredients inevitably are. 2 slices (squares) for $4.40. That is a damn steal in Harvard Square. Ask for it to go, and go buy a $1 Big Gulp at 7-11 a block over. Sit in the park if it's nice, in the Garage if it's not. If you're hammered and suffering PTSD from dancing at RedLine, stay in the restaurant. I'm pretty sure it's an official Safe Haven.

I've never reviewed Pinocchio's? Sure I have. (nose grows really, really, really long) Holy pizza balls. I've been coming to Pinocchio's, religiously, since I was a freshman in high school. For years, not a single trip to Harvard Square would be complete without two things 1. a piece of Sicilian style pizza from Pinocchio's and 2. being accosted by every make and model of hobo, hoodlum, Spare Change Newspaper dudes, gutter punks, trustafarians and of course charity clipboard kids. Alas, now that I am all grown up and work in Harvard Square, a different set of priorities have arisen. This largely entails lunch and dinner time pre-gaming when a night of boozy idiocy looms ahead. In either situation, I oft lean towards Pinocchio's. Yes, this is Boston/Cambridge, and if you are from New York you will laugh at our pizza. But, I am a native so I admit to having far-less cosmopolitan and high fallutin' views on pizza. I like Pinocchio's. It treats me well. I treat it well. A mutual respect in the form of simple, good pizza and a no-bull-crap air of efficiency. Thank you. Now I am hungry. Guess where I'm going for lunch?

Met up with a friend here who was giving my wife and I a tour of the campus during a recent long weekend! Heard from several people that we should try and go. We got in, and in the small space found a table for 4 (really 3.5) But it did the job. Easy to order, pizza comes fast and was pretty good. (I'd still rank Peqoud's here in chicago better!) But for the price and the speed of service, you really can't go wrong. Not that I'd ever have the brain power to attend Harvard, but if I did, this would spell trouble for me and my belt!

Best sicillian slice in the greater Boston area. Place must sprinkle crack on the slices cause I am HOOKED. The guys working clearly see alot as a late night place, but always in a great mood. I love Pinocchio's. And my nose isn't growing.

Solid regular slice (which is phenotypically Sicilian) and a chicken pesto for $5 ($5.35) from some nice dudes ($7 card minimum). Side street spot just off the strip does the trick for sure.

This hole-in-the-wall place has amazing sicilian-style-pizza with surprisingly light fluffy crust. Their pizza rosa (a margarita style pizza with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and bail) is phenomenal, and then their standard-type slices (my favorites are pepperoni, cheese, and mushroom) are also great.

I'm usually a thin crust girl, but the sicilian slices were DIVINE.

shared the steak sandwich with my friend. It was pretty good, i love cheese, mushroom, and steak combination. Somehow, this mix of filling makes the sandwich so flavorful and moist (I swear its the mushroom). The place is small and looks like its been around forever. Service is ehh, can't expect too much. pretty well priced. did not get to try the pizza, but it smelled really good!

Not so fast, Pinocchio's, I was originally going to give you three stars. When hot, I admit your pizza is really pretty good. Your sicilian slices are thick, cheesy, and crisped to perfection. But about a third of the time, I get a cold or lukewarm slice -- and when I do, it becomes particularly unappetizing. I'm not a cold or room temperature pizza-hater, but the slices here just seem to lose something once they have cooled. Now, I'm no physicist, but it seems that heat is the determining factor of quality when it comes to your pizza. Not sure exactly how that works. But then I accidentally discovered your cheesesteaks, or "steak and cheese" subs. Oh my goodness. Why, oh why, have I been blowing ample cheesesteak opportunities on pizza?! No, it's not Carl's in Waltham, and certainly wouldn't stand a chance against the Philly all-stars, but Pinoochio's makes a really tasty and respectable cheesesteak! They even use provolone, my cheesesteak cheese of choice, without me having to ask. Melty, delicious provolone. And unlike the pizza, it's always served hot off the grill. Sweet. For being the only place in the Cambridge area I have found so far with an acceptable cheesesteak-- Pinocchio's, you have redeemed yourself in my eyes, and totally earned that extra star. I'll be back.

  • Andrea B.

Get the Sicilian crust. It's thicker, doughier, and just...BETTER. Other than that, you can't go wrong no matter what kind of pizza you choose. You won't find any exotic or unusual toppings here, but the ones they do have taste so good and the price is so great that you won't really care. If you like white pizza, I highly recommend the tomato and basil. As far as red pizzas go, the slice of peppers, mushrooms, and onions that I had was pretty standard, but quite good nevertheless. Their tomato sauce is smooth and delicious, and just the right amount of it is spread over the chewy crust. Those two generously sized squares plus a soda cost me $7.12. At that price, forget delivery from other mediocre pizza places. Pinocchio's sadly doesn't deliver, but I'll gladly make the trek over to Harvard Square anytime I'm craving a few slices.

  • Anthony G.

I like this place better than Regina or Santarpios, but I've rated it one star less than either one. 'Why is that?' you may ask yourself. Well, because sometimes the pizza here is in-your-face-amazing and other times it can be kind of bad. Lets start with the good. Cool factor; small little place in Harvard Square serving thier pizza new york style - meaning that it is pre-made and they pop it in the oven to warm up after you order. The pizza itself is Sicilian style, which I have a soft spot for since it reminds me of childhood. I haven't been to Galleria Umberto so I can't compare the two. When the pizza is good you get an amazing crunch from the crust and an insane chew from the soft part of the bread. The sauce half soaks into the crust to make the bread softer and enhances the flavor (one of the great advantages of the thick-crust pizza, though I may still prefer thin). Great flavor in the cheese, sauce, bread, and toppings. When its bad: The pizza can be lifeless. If the pizza has been sitting to long before you order, then you will get an extra crunchy piece with bad flavors. I haven't tried this, but I might ask for the 'freshest pizza' next time I go in; maybe I'll have to bump up my rating. Bad experiences aside, the tomato basi pizza is great, the artichoke pizza is amazing, I love the pepperoni and I adore the sausage. Give it a try, maybe ask for what was just made. You won't (may) be dissapointed.

Pinocchio's is about as magical and wondrous as the Disney character with the same name. Yes, I love this place that much. It makes the Domino's and Pizza Huts of the world look like garbage a starving rat wouldn't touch. Their pizzas are perfectly crispy, cheesy, chewy, and mm mmm good. Kind of like your mouth is speaking 15 languages of tastebud heaven good. The restaurant itself is pretty small and tucked behind Berk's, so I don't think many people stumble upon it by just walking around the Square, but it's well worth the hunt if you haven't already found it. Really casual, family-run type of restaurant with some of the best pizza-making secrets around Boston. It makes me sometimes wish they were larger so they'd deliver during my random cravings, but oh a girl can dream...

I just moved to Harvard Square and am so glad to have this place right in my neighborhood. Their Sicilian pizza is perfection and I would say the best I've had in Boston. Prices are very reasonable, the food is delicious, and they're open late. I can tell I'll be making many trips back here to try some more of what they're cooking up. mmm

  • Jeremy W.

YES. This place has the best pizza in Harvard square. Square pizzas and REALLY flavorful. I love buffalo chicken and this place definitely hit the spot. Tomato basil is also VERY popular here, but they have a lot of different varieties of pizzas. They are known for their pizzas- so focus on that! But if you're not in the mood for some pizza goodness, then get a sub or sandwich- I'm sure they are delicious as well! Every time I come here is does not disappoint and I always leave with a happy and full stomach!

Why add my review to the pile? Well, I love the vibe in here and the staff, but the pizza? Thick n' oleaginous is a thing. I respect that. It's just not *my* thing, so I only do it once or twice a year. And definitely not during the sultry summer months.

Geppetto wished upon a star to turn Pinocchio into a real boy and it came true thanks to the Blue Fairy. Last week I wished upon a star for a delicious, cheap, and quick slice of pizza at 1am and it came true thanks to Pinocchio. Full circle? Maybe. This place may be hard to find, absolutely tiny, and filled with the expected late night rambunctious college crowd, but it's still amazing. Their fresh tomato basil pizza gets me smiling faster than you can say Jiminy Cricket!

  • Ainsley D.

I absolutely love being able to buy pizza by the slice. Pinocchio's has really great slice choices and it was cheap! I loved the cheesy murals and cute outdoor sign! The only reason I gave Pinocchio's 4 stars is because they had artichoke heart slices listed on their menu, but they were out! Artichoke is my all-time favorite food, so this made me sad. I got a slice of the tomato basil and pizza rosa, my boyfriend got the tomato basil and mushroom pizza--all three were very very good!

  • Augusto T.

Surprisingly decent. I did not really expect much from this very casual little restaurant in Harvard square. Similar to other pizza-by-the-slice joints, you go to the counter, pick out a slice and they reheat it for you. (They might bake if fresh if you order a full pizza) I ordered three slices of their Sicilian-style square cut pizza. I got pizza rossa ( no mozzarella, has the red sauce exposed with a bit of garlic, ricotta, and basil) , pepper and onion, and pepperoni. None of the slices were loaded with toppings, which was a tad disappointing. Why the 3 stars, well to be honest the pizza wasn't bad. Even with the skimpy toppings and the fact that it was reheated it actually tasted good. The sauce was great and the crust was just crispy and thick enough. If you need a quick bite and you are in the mood for pizza, I recommend you try it. The restaurant is of course very casual and slices cost slightly less than $3 each.

Could be the last pizza or sub joint in Harvard Square. Great Sicilian pizza though I always expect it to weigh a bit more with cheese. I am really glad this place is around and it's always been a very nice eating experience.

  • Michael B.

This is honestly the BEST pizza in Harvard Square! I work down in Harvard Square almost every day. Any time people are looking for a place to grab a quick slice of pizza, I always send them down here. I always look for little whole-in-the-wall establishments to eat because I know that all the food I eat is fresh. It is no different with Pinocchio's. I can't tell you enough about this place! You have to go and EXPERIENCE it yourself.

    (5)
  • Dave M.

i think ownership changed. their service is better now and some of the single slice toppings changed although their BBQ chicken should be called BBQ sauce pizza (they finely grind the chicken so you have some small shavings of chicken on the pizza). other than that mishap their pizza tastes awesome.

After finishing up a lab practical at Harvard, I decided I would take advantage of the Scoutmob deal for a FREE slice of pizza. It was pretty close to the Harvard campus, even though it was a hole-in-the-wall. I managed to get a slice of mushroom Sicilian style pizza and although it wasn't warmed quite to par, it was still good. It was sufficiently thick, moist, and the crust was nice and crispy. There's something extra in Pinocchio's pizzas. Maybe something in the dough, marinade, or something. I'm typically not a huge pizza fan, but this is one pizza I will have to come back for. Another plus is that despite the hoards of young folk and students who came to get their free slice, they did not seem grumpy or skimp out on the pizza. That's a major plus in my book. Even if it was free, they didn't compromise on quality :)

I have been a big fan of Pinocchio's ever since my friend brought me to them years ago, shocked that I have never been, considering I live so close to Harvard Square. It's pretty easy to miss, with it's small sign on a side street. There's no parking, but I have never gotten a ticket in the reserved spots across from it, since you're in and out so fast. You can buy whole pizzas, but most people go in and get a few slices, which are square, maybe 6"x6", and about 10 different types. FYI...I have learned, that it appears they only have 2-3 types made, but they usually have much more on metal shelving by the stove, and are often making more in the stove, so if you don't see they type you want, just ask. Once you order, they heat your squares of love up in the oven. Not greasy, not too doughy. Cheap. Perfect.

Ever since I moved from the area I make a special point to come here as much as I can. They always have a 2 slice special for about $5 which is a great find. You must try their tomato and basil Sicilian! The place is always packed but the lines move smoothly and quickly. The staff is very friendly and I love the owner, he just has such a friendly face. Their sandwiches are also hearty and will fill your heart and tummy. I am absolutely in love with this place!Just some advice: they have Sicilian style which is thick and then regular pizza dough which is thin. Unfortunately with the tough economy they had to cut back on their toppings so the pizza slices have less meat on them than once before but still taste awesome!

My slice of buff chick sicilian had only specks of finely ground chicken on top. It was tasty, but I was really expecting some protein. Really, even an ounce of chicken. My friend's pesto chicken slice was the same story. That said, the pizza is still good, especially the regular cheese sicilian. I definitely expected more from such a locally famous establishment though.

Love it and hate it!! It's awesome cuz it is the last pizza place that is open when you are drunk and it's late. Love it too cuz it saves your life on the next morning. However, can't say I would eat the pizza if I were sober. If is the fattiest, greasiest pizza I have had so far in Boston.

hungry or not, if you're in cambridge you have to check out pinocchio's. it's a small local spot with amazing sicilian style pizza. mark wahlberg, ben affleck, and matt damon apparently frequent pinocchio's when they're back in the town so it has definitely passed the test of some real bostonians. the pizza is delicious. they serve by the slice which is great because i always love trying a bunch of different toppings. the spinach garlic is sooo amazingly wonderful and there is definitely no skimping on the garlic and the flavor. i really like the sausage slices too. you can tell they use some really good quality italian meats. the crust is the perfect mix of doughy greasy and crispy. i absolutely love the guys working here too. they're fun uncle type characters and can really recommend you a great slice of pizza.

This is my favorite place of all time. My college roommate introduced me to it, and I went regularly for the twelve years that I lived in Boston. We opened a tab for our friends here on two occasions: a picnic the day after our wedding and for our good-bye-Boston party. There are only a few things on the menu that I order - Sicilian slices (I don't even know what the normal ones taste like, and I've only had tomato-basil/mushroom/sausage), and the steak & cheese or cheeseburger sub. They toast it in the oven before giving it to you. If it's nice out, grab your food and head across JFK to the park or left on JFK to the river. Lots of great memories and meals here, it's making me a bit sad that I can't go right now.

Oh how I loved this place as a student. Now that I'm a New Yorker, I still dream about a good Sicilian slice from Noch's. Not too oily (unlike Di Fara's), and the crust is the perfect combination of slightly doughy and slightly crispy. Perfect late night food or snack -- I still try to stop by whenever I'm in the area.

It's cold. Real cold, like 15 degrees with a brisk new england wind. You may have just been out in HSq at the usual haunts, and it's now 2:30 am. You grab your slice, navigate your way back outside, and stand there, admiring the steam coming off your delicious square of silician heaven as it tickles your nose and warms your face. And when it's gone, you almost want to cry.

There's one way to tell a great authentic pizzeria. It's true from Boston to Philly. What you may ask is this sign from the Pizza God's? It's a framed original poster of the 1982 Italian World Cup team. Really. They all might not have one, but when you go to a pizzeria that does, there's a 99.9% chance you're all set for a great slice. So it is with Pinocchio's in Harvard Square. The venerable poster is practically the first thing you see when you walk in the door. The second test is whether they serve Sicilian style. For those not in the know, Sicilian is thin crust's under appreciated big brother. It has a thick crust which shows how confident the owners are about their dough (no pun intended), it is cooked on a sheet pan, and when it is done right, it is second to none. Both offerings at Pinocchio's are solid. We only had cheese and pepperoni, both thick and thin. Both were wonderful. The other varieties, some shown in the Yelp photos looked great. The probably are, so I plan on going back next time I'm in the square. Good authentic pizza, that's it. Go!

Two slices of Sicilian for under $5? Sign me up. While there are a few great pizza choices in the Harvard Square area (Upper Crust -- and if you're feeling fancy, Cambridge One) Pinocchio's is my regular spot. This place is a no frills pizza joint with nice employees and deliciously crispy (and large) slices on the cheap. I have a soft spot for Sicilian style pizza and this place is legit. I love the veggie (onions, peppers, mushrooms) - chocked full of veggies with a good distribution of cheese and sauce. A word of advice for those who like to take their pizza to go. When you get home, turn on the oven to 350 and toast those slices up on a piece of aluminum foil. The slices don't stay crispy for long, so if you're going to reheat I highly suggest using the oven. So good. So crispy. Mmmm...

This place is a real hole in the wall - but man, is it good. Thin crust, my favorite. I wish I was more hungry when we ate here, because then I would have gotten another slice. They had both thicker crust pizza and thin crust, and only served cheese of the thin slice, which for some reason made it more desirable to me - more authentic feeling or something. My friend got a thick slice, which looked pretty good too... but not as good as mine :) So good, and even though I wasn't hungry at all when we got here, I still ate the whole thing. Sign of something truly tasty.

Pinocchios is by far the best pizza outside of the North End. The Sicilian pizza is light and fluffy. The regular pizza is crispy and delicious. I have never tried they're subs because for 2 huge slices for $5 why would I!

Great Sicilian deep dish pizza considering that a pizza place is on almost every street corner around the city and you have so much selection. I loved the two for 5 bucks and each was big enough by itself. They were friendly, a rarity in this town, and the food was great. I will be back next week for sure!!!

I'll be a dissenting opinion on Noch's. I appreciate that pizza can be a lifesaver after a late night out with friends, but I think this place gets too much of a halo from this. Don't get me wrong - the pizza is solid: cheesy, chewy crust, a nice mix of toppings. And it's pretty cheap, too. But half the time, your slice has been sitting out in the open waiting to be reheated, and it's not exactly the healthiest pizza around, either. It can also get pretty noisy, and seating space is at a premium. This place is decent in a pinch, but I wouldn't rave about it.

5 stars always and forever. Many years ago when I was a wee Harvard freshman, my roommates and I came here to have an eating contest. The winner finished EIGHT slices of Sicilian cheese. The rest of us averaged 5 slices. Needless to say, those days are long gone, as are the days when I'd clean off a full cheeseburger sub plus a slice of pizza. Over the years I've enjoyed a more manageable 2 slices per meal -- 1 tomato basil, 1 cheese, every time -- and it has never, ever, EVER gotten old. I last visited Boston in the spring, and the pizza was as good as my very first bite. To any of you Harvard students reading this, don't take Noch's for granted! After you graduate you're gonna move to New York or Chicago or San Francisco, and you're going to expect to find better food and better pizza in a bigger city. But you'll be wrong. My friends and I have all since moved elsewhere, and we have yet to find another Noch's.

I concur with most of the 300+ positive reviews here. The pizza is delicious (both thin and Sicilian though the latter is the real star of the show). Its an incredibly good value ($2.50 for a big Sicilian wedge; $4 for two...regardless of toppings). And finally, this place truly is a hidden gem. I live in Cambridge and have been to Harvard Square a billion times and never heard about or noticed this place before. Overall: big thumbs up...one of my favorites in the Boston area.

Noch's has definitely become an essential part of the Harvard experience. Everyone has at least tried the pizza once and many people tend to have wildly differing opinions about the place. I tend to disagree with both extremes and find the pizza pretty average overall. I usually order the Tomato Basil or the Buffalo chicken and while both are pretty good, I wouldn't say the slices are anything special. Still, if you're roaming around the area and want a quick bite, Noch's is a pretty decent option.

  • Alison F.

Noch's has a complicated relationship with Harvard undergrads, who seem to worship the place or at least consider eating here as part of what it means to go to Harvard College. But I'm not a Harvard undergrad, so my relationship with Noch's is NOT complicated. It's very simple:I think it's the worst, grainiest, pizza dough EVER, and if the foundation isn't good, the pizza isn't good.

Great Sicilian pizza! The best part is that they're open late! Super tasty!

Pinocchio is just as part of Harvard square as Harvard itself and yet, mostly due to its recessed location... no one seems to really know about it. At least the massive waves of tourists... It's unnoticed, sitting alone in that tiny one way street while 50 feet away, on JFK street, thousands of pedestrians walk by it every single day. That alone makes me love this hidden jewel. It's a tiny, traditional pizza shop that whips up some amazing food. The kitchen is tiny and yet you can see the pizzaiolos hard at work in the background, mixing, prepping, cooking, baking, slicing. It's amazing, I love it. The place itself is not big at all... it has about 6-7 tables and yet they have so much proud in their product. They have two types of pizzas there... Sicilian and regular crusted ones. They have all kinds of toppings.. zucchini, cheese, pepperoni and they also make some mean subs. I love their chicken parm subs. Seriously, I could eat it everyday. I don't though, that would be bad. The prices aren't bad either which is one of the reasons as to why they draw such a crowd. You will, in most cases, have to wait in line to order and get your food. They place is constantly packed from opening to close. But you know what they say about long lines... Definitely worth it in my book So if you are looking for a nice, original spot for a slice and a drink I'd highly recommend Pinocchio's... It has nothing pretentious about it's setting and decor but will satisfy your appetite and won't hit your wallet too hard. I'm a big fan of this place!

If you like bread, you will like this pizza. While it was tasty while I was downing down two slices here, it is certainly lacking in cheese, sauce, and toppings. My pepperoni sicilian slice only had 4 slices of pepperoni on it, covering barely half of the slice. That was really disappointing. So, the pizza here is definitely about the crust. I'm learning that I'm more about a good balance between all the ingredients in pizza, and so while I would come back again, I don't think this would be my first choice. If I wanted a full pie, I would probably go to Bertucci's instead.

Not like this place needs another review, but thought I'd toss my kudos into the pile with all the others. 1. Vegetarian Cheese Steak Subs. Oh. My. God. Absolutely to die for. Usually, when I ask for this strange contraption, I have to explain it over and over (cheese steak, minus the steak. No meat. yes grilled onions, etc). Not so here. They even have a name for it. "vegetarian" sub. No kidding. Delicious. $7 for a large that I couldn't quite finish (so close!), but my sweetie ate it all up along with his own - we were stuffed. Never had a better veggie cheese-steak (steak-bomb, minus the steak)... 2. Sicilian Pizza - We always buy a small sicilian, and it's delicious, just like everyone says. If we're passing through and just need a snack, the slices are awesome - but, we're pigs and love it, so we order a whole darn pie. 3. No parking - Doh! The only downside to this awesome local den of yummy-ness, is there's neither parking nor delivery. (sniff). Well, we usually circle around for half an hour until we find a spot, and by then, our food is ready (call ahead). So, I guess it's ok. But why no delivery? I would pay extra to have this food come to meeeeeee.

Pinocchio's is the only place I feel comfortable eating in Harvard Square- they are fast, reliable, and I never feel like I'm being cheated price-wise because of the location. If I don't feel like cooking for a few days, I'll stop by and grab a small Sicilian for $22 that will feed me and my fiance for 3 days. The guys who work here are friendly and make everyone feel welcome, even though they get pretty crowded during peak hours (they only have ~5 tables). As yelpers have noted, the Sicilian crust is to die for, and if your hunger is average, a single slice is pretty filling (a meal for me is usually 3 slices shared between me and my fiance). The subs are also delicious, albeit crazy greasy. A few notes- you need to buy about 3 slice or a sub if you want to use a debit/credit card (they have a $7 credit card min and one slice is $2.25). If you're ordering a whole pizza to-go, you probably want to do it by phone about 30 minutes before you want to pick it up, because there's not a lot of room to wait around inside. Everything else has been said- Pinocchio's is my go-to place for cheap, greasy, delicious Italian street-food.

More like a 2.5 Ok. So what was the hoopla all about? It's quick, cheap, and does the job. If that's what it's all about, then yeah...give it 5 stars. But as far as: the overall taste and the crispness of the crust. It's all right. We got a large 1/2&1/2 Mahgarita and Salame and Mushrooms. I felt like it could have used about 5 more minutes in the oven.

Oh, Pinocchio, how your exterior lies about the delicious pizza awaiting inside. A nondescript location houses one of the best pizza places in Cambridge. Two slices of Sicilian pizza with pepperoni and a fountain drink for about five dollars?! BOOM. Delicious pizza is great at curing hangover. Go here, have some pizza, simple as that.

One of the beautiful things about eating is that it's one of the only activities where one is unable to think about anything else but what's in front of us. Pino's takes this experience to the next level. Conversation is nearly impossible when your hands are occupied by their warm, rectangular creations. The epidermis of cheese is ideally chewy and browned, giving way to a thick, spongey dough that swallows your teeth to the gumline and then a gorgeous crunch. The true test for a late night pizza joint is if you still crave it sober. During my stints in the area, I'd cross bridges for their thick, spongey tomato basil and spinach slices even back when alcohol wasn't my vice of choice.

Steak bomb or Sicilian slice.. how does a girl decide? This local classic has been serving the best of both as long as I can remember. In fact, not much has changed since my first trip there-- including the handsome guys that work there. If you want a juicy steak bomb with just-right grilled onion, peppers and mushrooms, this is your spot. Be like me and add L,T,M for the perfect sandwich. Or have a sicilian slice- nice and thick and a little crunchy on the bottom- you can't go wrong with any of the toppings. Add a drink and you're out of there for just a few bucks. Great place to get to know people- it's crowded- but orders move fast. You won't have to wait long for your food. Just don't plan to lounge around in a big sitting area.

I liked the pizza but it was a touch over priced and the people were not friendly at all! I tried to over compensate by smiling a ton and being very polite but the dude wouldn't perk up! The food was average, but I'd probably go there again.

Sicilian pizza mmm.... I've never gotten anything else, though they do serve "regular" pizza and subs. Sicilian pizza is deep-dish and the slices are big squares of deliciousness. Honestly, I've only had the Tomato Basil (their most popular - simple, fresh, and always excellent) and the Spinach (unbelievably good, just the right amount of garlic, lots of cheese, but not greasy). Perfect sauce, not too spicy, not too sweet, and spread evenly but they don't overdo it. One slice is enough to fill me, but sometimes I have two because they're just too damn good. Way more slice options than the typical place that serves only cheese or pepperoni, or maybe throws another topping on an already-baked cheese pizza. There's a big difference between this and a pizza that is cooked with the toppings. They'll deliver orders over $100, and they accept credit cards. The staff is friendly and always joking around with me, the place is small but I've never had trouble finding a seat (you can always just take it to go anyway), and the hours are great -- they're open until 2:30 a.m. during the (Harvard) school year, and 1:00 the rest of the time except Sundays when they close at midnight.

Baked ziti with meatballs after a long flight hits the spot. You also cannot pass up any of their slices.

I don't see what the hubbub is all about. The Sicilian pizza is merely okay. The place is very small and there's really not that much to write about. It's the very definition of "A-OK."

One of the best pizza places in the U.S. One of the best cheese steak places in the U.S. In both categories, Pinocchio's competes straight up with pure-play guys (i.e., pizza in New York City; cheesesteak places in Philadelphia). Lots of nostalgia if you went to Harvard, but years later I've concluded that the food here is simply great, period.

Attention....if you are drunk around Harvard Sq. then go here for good pizza. That is all. I can't really rate this place for real because i only come here when I'm drunk. But sheeeit....if you are drunk, then come here for pizza. If you are not drunk, then go home. Pinocchios is the GO TO place for drunk dining. Just a note....if I came here sober they may suck. But I'm drunk so IT RULES!!!!!!!! if you disagree then you are a COMMUNIST!!!!!! TIM OUT!!!! *Next day note: I don't remember writing this. But apparently it is good.

This is a by the slice, cheap pizza place in an alley off Harvard Square. I did not find the pizza to be that great, but considering you can get 2 good sized slices for $5 it deserves some credit. It is a small place and the line moves fast. There are a few tables to eat at and an interesting mural of fairy tale characters eating pizza. Not the kind of place you want to hang out at for long, but definitely OK for quick eating. $7 minimum for credit card payment!

My favorite pizza place of all time: cheap, unique, and mouth-wateringly good. I want to plan a trip to Boston just so I can eat here 10 more times. Definitely go for the Sicilian Style Pizza. The steak-cheese and italian sanwiches are also must-haves... small place, in a college town - open late.

  • Kathy M.

Soggy Sicilian pizza. True, I'm not an expert in Sicilian pizza but i'm pretty sure it isn't supposed to be soggy. I personally prefer a harder, crispier crust but I definitely didn't get that this past weekend when i got a slice of pepperoni. I was bummed.

Gonna Keep this short and sweet. Perfect layout, having never been here before, it was very easy to order, and figured out "protocol" right away, no nonsense at the cashier, order pay, get killer pizza. Pizza was AWESOME, the second best pizza I've ever had, second only to Genovese Pizza, I ate in San Marco Square in Venice Italy, other than that the thin pizza was killer, and the thick was killer, the crust was UNBELIEVEABLE! Light (not heavy at all) and the flavor... Wow! I could just eat the crust without toppings, but then you add real good toppings, and you have the BEST Pizza in the USA.. I wish they would open one here, I would finacnce them in a heartbeat! Come to Cali...Boys!

The perfect place to grab a slide when in Harvard Square. The only downside was that my wife and I couldn't find a table so we ate outside and a homeless guy bummed a slice off of us. However, we only gave him the spinach pizza because the mushroom was just too good. The pizza may look heavy, but it is surprisingly light and crunchy :-)

While being bored at work and having nothing to do on a Friday afternoon, it seems like the perfect time to catch up on reviews of places from my past (today lets cover Boston and surrounding areas). One of the most memorable places I discovered during my summer at Harvard 3 years ago was Pinocchio's, a staple for Harvard University students almost as much as Cheeseboard or Zachery's are for student at UC Berkeley. There was no seating space and relatively no ambiance, but quick service and delicious pizza. I remember going there on a regular basis with friends and having the chicken pesto pizza. I would always ask for the corner slices of the sicilian pizza to get extra of their amazing crust. I could easily go unnoticed, but it certainly provided great pizza (even late at night) while we were in the area. Not the best pizza I've had, but it gets an extra star for the convenience at the time and probably nostalgia

  • Sonia S.

One of my favorite pizza places ever. The Sicilian slices tasete like they've been deep-fried -- which makes them that much more delicious. I prefer plain cheese and love both the Sicilian and the regular slice. Hands down it's my favorite pizza in Boston. I have definitely experienced hiccups with the customer service, but honestly, it's such a hole-in-the-wall place I don't expect much more.

Straight up Awesome Pizza. The quality has not changed since I was first brought here in 1994! Just go, get a slice of sicilian, and let you inner pizza lover dance!

Two slices for $4.65 and these hot, crispy bottomed squares are great! Slightly deep pizza and the bottom of each slice is always perfectly crisp. Small seating area but the tables are clean. The same guys are always working behind the counter and they're quick and efficient. Basic, classic pizza flavors here- the tomato and basil is a favorite, and the spinach is generously piled with greens and cheese. Thank you for being open late after beer in the Square :)

I'll be honest... I've only had Pinocchio's while extraordinarily drunk or high. Even so, I remember the taste, which should tell you that it's really, really good. Better than your average college pizza shop for sure, and they serve huuuge Sicilian pizzas for a pretty reasonable price. I won't give it the full five stars because: a) The place is tiny and not very comfortable. Probably wouldn't eat-in. RUN the pizza back to your apartment/dorm before it gets cold and eat it there. b) Since they make everything fresh (which, don't get me wrong, is a good thing), the wait can get really long, ESPECIALLY when you're drunk (and let's be honest, that's their target crowd). The length of the wait also makes the uncomfortable environment even less bearable. Overall, very much recommended for your drunken (etc.) munchies.

Went here for the first time last night and WOW...best Sicilian pizza! I saw people ordering slices of the normal crust pizza and I gave them this "what the heck is wrong with you" look. If you love thick crust pizza (think chicago style but without all that tomato sauce), you'll love Pinocchio's. I had a slice of spinach and a slice of tomato basil, and what a deal for $4.41 total! I absolutely LOVED the spinach pizza. The crust is so crunchy on the outside yet soft and chewy on the inside, and tastes oven fresh. They put the perfect amount of cheese and spinach on. The pizza was so delicious that I actually came back again today and had another slice of spinach and a slice of mushroom. I recommend asking them if you can either get a corner piece or a piece with the crust, makes a big difference! The place is really tiny and kind of hidden but totally worth the trip to Harvard Square. Heck, I'm considering going again before I head back to CA!

All I remember is reading good reviews, eating some gross pizza, feeling disgusting after. Really really not good enough. I'd suggest the Upper Crust which is right nearby and maybe 200% better.

Best Sicillian pizza around. I have never had a bad experience here. ALWAYS DELICIOUS! The plain cheese sicillian slices are perfect and filling. Seriously the pizza here is the best I've ever had. Soft, perfect subtly sweet sauce, crunchy crust, delicious cheese...... I want some right now! If you like sicillian and hearty pizza you MUST try this place! It's hidden pretty well.... But that's ok in my book because it keeps the annoying tourists away. :)

  • Hussam B.

This place is a must visit for all harvard and cambridge students who appreciate a good pizza and/or steak sandwich. Their steak sandwich is made with a strip of beef so you know there isn't junk meat as might be the case when ground beef is used. This is not a fancy place but you will notice pictures of celebrities hanging on the walls. It's a pretty good place for a late night eat since it closes at 1 am on weekdays and 2 am on the weekends.

I ordered a dozen pizzas for a lunch at Harvard. They were fresh and delicious, and the delivery person was on time and extremely courteous (as were the people on the phone). Excellent!

  • Susie C.

This is excellent pizza. They use a prefect tomato sauce with subtle undertones of herbs and garlic, and the cheese is a very pleasing blend of mozz and parm- it does actually make my mouth water. The crust is golden and the exact balance of chewy and crunchy. So, what to order? They make a mean sicilian pizza (I have a hard time finding a better one in the area). Oh, that crust! I love getting a corner piece so I have extra crust. If you are ordering a slice or two (I can never order just one), look at the choices and go for one that looks freshly made. I have never ordered a slice of the round cheese, so I can't comment on that-HOWEVER, I spent last Friday at home (yes, alone if you really have to know) with a freshly made round small cheese pizza and that was hands down one of the best pizzas I had ever had. Ever. It was steaming hot and the cheese/sauce/bread combination made my heart flutter.

  • Jenn Y.

Not bad, I had a sicilian tomato basil and it was quite delicious. Chewy and crispy at the same time. Prices are good, and service is fast. The guys at the counter can be a little brusque, but overall, a good place for pizza. Too bad they don't deliver, but I call ahead for pickup, and since I'm putting in my exercise beforehand, I feel less guilty eating the pizza after!

    (4)
  • Trish F.

I've only come here late night.. so if the guys behind the counter tell me that they don't have the slices I want or they inform me of some fresher choices, I just go with it. That's how I roll, man. Go with the flow. I have run into some lukewarm slices. If they're too quick in delivery, just tell them to shove that sucker back in for a minute. No biggie. For the cheap price you have to put in an iota of effort. This is a deal breaker to some. Meh.. not me. Oy.. Why do I always order two slices! Too much food. They aren't huge, but they're thick. hehe I came here with Allix once and she got a salad. Don't get a salad. Stick to the namesake. As for ambiance.. well.. there are only about 5 or 6 small tables, so like the classy dame I am, I take my pizza for a walk. And.. well.. not gonna lie.. the mural with Pinocchio and Gepetto freaks me out.

Had a meeting in Harvard square, then was heading back to the office. Decided to stop in because I heard good things from a co-worker. Went into the simple restaurant at lunch-time, and the pizza looked good. They warmed it for me and it was 2 slices for less than $5. Really good pizza, and good price.

So yummy! And so cheap! Yummy in a not particularly good for me sort of way, and cheap because it's food that's relatively lacking in nutritional value. But boy, it sure is tasty. A corner slice of the spinich pizza really is quite the cure-all. Cures my hunger, cures my blues, cures my desire for instant gratification smothered in cheese. Oh, Pinocchio, I do love thee. However, I'm not so keen on the Italian guys behind the counter who think they're being flirtatious when I'm waiting for my slices to warm in the oven. Reminds me of when I was in Rome in college and the Italian 20-something guys all tried to hang on me and my group of 20-something girlfriends and have their picture taken with us and repeatedly tried to coerce us to join them somewhere for cappuccino and red wine and whatnot. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't mess with me when I'm hungry. Grazie. Big props for their late night hours . . .

Favorite pizza place in Boston. The guy is a pizza nazi and the waits can be long but worth it. If you show up too late they run out of pizza so leave the bar a few minutes early to make sure you get your slice.

Every once in a while, Yelp gets my hopes up a little too high. This was definitely the case. It's a lazy Sunday and I thought I'd give this place a shot. Parking was a challege, but I expected that. But I also expected to be rewarded... I had a piece of the Sicilian and it was... eh. Not bad. Definitely not worthy of the ranking it has, but I will give it another shot at some point... maybe tonight was just an off day. The pizza was almost flavor-less. It had no personality, nothing memorable about it at all.

A bona fide Harvard institution (has it been featured in a few movies already?), and yet keeping it real since who knows when. I used to hit up Noch's as a freshman, and now that I'm back I am still gracing this hole-in-wall between a dorm and a shoe store to get my greasy/cheesy pizza fix. I am a fan of all pizza joints, they all have their particular charm-- and the charm in Noch's is their fluffy, cheesy, flavorful Sicilian slices. You can order whole pies here, and subs too, but I always go for the Sicilian slices, they just pop it back in the oven, and bam you got your gooey slice in a few minutes-- why go any other route? They have assortments of toppings (I usually stick to the traditional) and a drink fridge stocked with 12 oz cans. The only drawbacks? Usually crowded with undergrads, few tables, gets packed up by the ordering counter, and they have a $7 minimum on credit card purchases. Other than that, they are open late and have a no frills pizza-on-a-paper-plate attitude that always hits the spot.

When I first moved to the Boston area 2 summers ago, I was craving pizza for dinner during one of my first nights here. After some research online, it appeared that Pinocchio's was deemed to be one of the top pizza joints around. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I've been there several times since, and still no dice. I really don't understand what all the hoopla is about. It's just okay pizza. The last time I was there, it was about 1 am, and all I wanted was a regular cheese slice. Sounds like a simple enough request, right? Apparently not. The person at the counter gruffly informed us that there were no plain cheese slices available. Upon asking how long we would have to wait for one, an answer of 45 minutes was given. What?! Are you kidding me?! Granted, they were quite busy and dealing with the Saturday late night rush, but seriously?! What pizza place doesn't have a plain cheese slice readily available?! Nevertheless, we ordered what they did have available: spinach sicilian slices and mushroom sicilian slices. To my further dismay, when I bit into the slices (literally 2 minutes after buying them), they were cold. I'm not a fan.

If you are not in the mood - they can be obnoxious.

Ah, Pinocchio's..... Most people love it, some hate it. It's cheap pizza, in a low attitude joint. It's been there for maybe 30 years. I love it. I get a corner Sicilian Slice, and am a happy girl. Cheap, fast, and yum. When I was in high school, I had a standing Movie Night every Friday with my friend, Ingrid. We'd eat there, and then go see a Double Feature at the Harvard Square, or the Brattle. So, I've some good memories associated with the place.

  • Pokey R.

Pinocchio's has simple, delicious, cheap pizza. Other area pizzerias may have more variety in toppings and flavors, but the baseline experience at Pinocchio's is the best in Harvard Square. The Sicilian dough and crust are the right texture - thick and crispy. Their round pizzas are pretty good too. The two slice deal is one of the best in the area.

I was stoked to check out this place after reading the reviews and hearing recommendations from a few people, but man, what a bummer. First, the pizza was eh. Not bad by any stretch, but because it's made in those big sheets it tends to sit for a while and reheating does little to bring it back to life. The place is also sort of dumpy. Not dirty, just sort of depressing inside. Prices are good (three slices and two sodas for about $12), but for not much more, I could have had Upper Crust. I feel like my disappointment is dragging down a score that might have otherwise been higher if I hadn't been teased by such good reviews. Again, not bad, but not recommended.

About seven years ago, my friend pulled me into this place after a preview screening of Mulholland Drive at the Brattle. I tried to front like I went there for pizza all the time after watching semi-comprehensible arty movies at the Brattle ('cause I kind of had a crush on my friend) but really I'd never even seen the place, let alone eaten there. It's on the wee-est of side-streets, with the wee-est of signs, and the wee-est of footprints - maybe room for twelve to eat in, if you want to get really friendly. I rocked a couple slices of the greasy, garlic-y, awesome spinach Sicillian pieces and fell in mushy love. (With the pizza, not with my friend.) Then I tried to find the place again like a week later and it was motherfucking Brigadoon. Nowhere to be found, even though a million people in JFK park were waving Pinocchio's boxes around like it was right around the corner. Of course it WAS right around the corner - just not the corner I was looking at. Very complicated. Anyway, spinach slices! Tasty! Cheap! Down the street where the shoe store is, not the other street! I will draw you a map! Bonus: Given that this is a cheap place open late in the middle of Harvard Square, the customers are often student-types. Specifically Harvard-types. This makes it prime unintentional hilarity people-watching territory. Last night (over slices after a film at the Brattle, natch) I got to listen to one girl make sympathetic noises in the direction of another girl who had just registered for an intro sociology course and worried that she might want to change her concentration to bio-engineering or something that doesn't have a sociology prerequisite, and that would, of course, be THE END OF THE WORLD. There were also a lot of people eating in silence because they were too awkward to live, let alone converse with their dining companions. (I was silent, too, but that's 'cause I was eavesdropping on Sociology 101.) Good times.

I miss NYC pizza. I like pinos. Its pretty solid. Really good sicilian slice. I usually get one regular slice and one sicilian. The guy(s) who work the register are pretty freaking rude but I just ignore them. They rush you and once I ordered many slices (NOT ONLY FOR ME) and the guy oinked. Yes, he oinked. wel whatever, i come for the good! I wish they delivered.

Have to give it 5 stars as I have not had anything better in Boston. Sort of a hassle to get to with limited on street parking. You know it must be good to justify a trip into Harvard Square to pick up pizza. Sicilian is especially good. I have tried their various daily slice specials. I was surprised how good the artichoke pizza was. This place has mastered the art of a perfect crust matched by excellent tasting sauce. They are far busier than most pizza places and yet they serve you quickly and have always been nice to me. Try it once and determine for yourself if it is worth the trip into Harvard Square. More of a hole in the wall type place with the prototypical limited seating area and perhaps a little pricier than most, but they know how to make good pizza.

  • Ariel G.

Their Sicilian pizzas is amazing. I especially like the spinach kind that they always have. Get a corner piece too, their the best! I have never ordered any of their subs but reading other reviews on yelp i think i will next time i go. whenever i'm in Harvard sq and get hungry this is the place i go. the only bad thing about it is that some times its so full you can't get a seat inside the store because it kind of small. but oh well, the pizza makes up for it!

    (4)
  • Julia F.

Fast, good, cheap. I always used to eat here when I actually spent some time in in Harvard. I used to like the steak and cheese... I think they were good? I don't think I ever bothered to sit and eat... Sometimes it's obnoxiously busy, but... thats what a good cheap place gets like. Clearly I was busy smokin the reefer and can't remember much...

  • Punita K.

If you love a thin and crispy classic plain cheese pizza made by humorous guys in a quaint place with the Pinocchio story painted artistically on the walls, GO HERE. BEST CHEESE PIZZA IN NEW ENGLAND. I have never ordered anything else...The plain cheese pizza is delicious! LOVE IT ! Just go eat pizza at Pinocchio's! Its ....a small place - just get take out and rent a movie. You have to eat it while its hot...it doesn't reheat well. Its fresh and not greezy. the crust is homemade and good.

  • Gino T.

This place is so overrated. I saw all these reviews about how great this place is and let me tell you something it is wack (horrible)! The price is great, but that still does not make the pizza any better, I'm sure that for all those barneys, it's a step up from ramen and peanut butter sandwiches. Sicilian? I don't think so. There's a bunch of Salvi's back there, mean mugging you cause you come in with fine looking chick. It doesn't even look appetizing once you get in there. Small cramp space, no where to sit, that's why they have lines, not because it's good. If I was an alien sent to earth to find a specimen of pizza I wouldn't have any reason to go down 74 Winthrop St.

  • Michael C.

The pizza here is fine. Nothing to rave about, IMO (Uno's is far better), but decent deep dish. The crust is too soft and doughy, like it hasn't been baked long enough. They also don't keep the slices very warm, so you'll probably get a lukewarm piece. They have a good two slices for $3.95 deal. But seating's limited, so don't count on eating in. Also, every time I've gone the guy working there has made fun of me, or maybe he thinks it's a polite joke...he kind of pretends that he doesn't have what I asked for, and laughs at me, then says okay and takes my money. Odd. Edit, 2/19/07: I finally tried one of their subs, a small tuna sub. Really good. Lots of tuna stuffed in, plenty for the price. Of the pizza, pasta, and subs here, this is by far my favorite item on the menu. And given the closing of so many sandwich shops in Harvard Square over the past few years, this is now the best tuna sandwich in the Square (i.e., it's better than Boston Chowda Co., which is lousy).

Pizza comes in so many different shapes and sizes - Pinocchio's is known, of course, for their super-thick-crust "Sicilian" style slices. Great for lunch or an afternoon snack, pretty inexpensive, and fast, this pie-hole is perfect for the Harvard Square captive or visitor on a budget. The seating area is very small and can get painfully crowded during lunch, so it's best to have somewhere to take your slices if you arrive between 12-1 on a weekday. Come earlier or later and you will probably find a seat. There is no bathroom, as far as I know, which can be inconvenient. The basil/tomato, spinach, and artichoke slices are tasty but they don't have the best meats - the pepperoni is standard but the sausage can be a little dry. The grinders (as they are known to us Western Mass folks) or hoagies or subs are pretty good too - the meatball and the chicken parm are extremely large and filling. All in all, a fast, cheap, and solid choice for lunch on the run.

  • Alexis N.

Pinocchio's is, hands down, the best pizza in Harvard Square. And I'm not talking about the kind of pizza that's only good after having one too many scorpion bowls at the Kong. I'm talking about stone-cold sober pizza that you can take your kid brother to and not run the risk of running into an intoxicated bookworm. If it's your first time, you have to get a slice of plain old Sicilian with tasty sauce and cheese. Don't expect this to be "NY style." It's not. It's better.

When I was a freshman in college, a good friend and I gave up their pizza for Lent, because it had hooked us that much. It's not nostalgia, though, 15 years later, I still go when in Cambridge and still find every bite as delicious as always. Stick to the Sicilian pizza.

    (5)
  • Marcus D.

My favorite pizza in Cambridge, in the Boston area, etc. This place is tied with Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn as having the best pizza squares. I keep it simple - tomato and basil or mushroom. Went here yesterday after a looooooooooong hiatus: pizza tastes better than ever. Always crowded, always a line, but the line moves fast and the guys behind the counter are great. No waiting like Umberto's in the North End. If they had rice balls, then Umberto's better put up the For Sale sign because this place KICKS Umberto's ass - though the pizza slices are cheaper at U's, 4.15 for two Sicilian slices aren't breaking your bank.

You've all missed the point! They have the best steak and cheese sub anywhere. We live in NYC and when we go to Cambridge (grew up there) it is our first stop. Order it with grilled onions and then have them put everything on it. It is great.

wow. after all those AWESOME reviews, we were so pumped to go to this place and get some awesome, cheap, pizza, but were let down so hard, i'm still kinda dizzy from the fall. First off, the pizza itself. The crust/tomato/cheese combination is like its out of a horror movie. I swear, i think I had nightmares about it. The dough is like frozen pizza dough, or cafeteria pizza. Either way, its not the kind you want to eat. Sure, its crispy, but that's about it. As for the service, the guy that was taking our order was rude, seemed rushed even though we were the only people there, and just genuinely didn't give two $*&#s about the place. Lastly, the place doesn't even have a bathroom! (so these hands with which i'm going to eat my pizza, are going to get washed how, mr?) So in all, sure, the price is right, but i would avoid this place like the plague. Truly disappointing, considering i had high hopes for this place.

This is the ultimate college joint. The food is great, cheap, and filling. The people are wonderful and you never know who will walk in and make a scene. At the very least you'll have a great slice of pizza, and at its best you may meet some crazy people. So all in all its wonderful. What's nice is that the people that work there seem pretty disconnected from you once you pick up your food, so you can just sit and hang out for hours with your friends chatting.

This place is hidden in the midst of Harvard sq. Great thick crust slices are huge and fantastic, never a let down. When there is so much to choose from in the sq. its good to known I can get a great slice of pizza from a classic Harvard institution. Its also open late, so when you done checking out Redline Thursdays, grab a slice for the way home

Best pizza in Harvard Square. At times, some of the most irritating customers (you go to Harvard but need 25 minutes to figure out that you and your 10 friends want a cheese pizza? Christ.) but totally worth the wait. 2 sicilian slices for under 5 dollars = Teh Awesome.

    (4)
  • Erin L.

This place was recommended by a friend. I honestly don't think the pizzas here were all that great. I think the best I would recommend is the spinach pizza. The other ones were just meh.

    (3)
  • Tommy V.

The Best pizza in the square.. No frills, no fancy surroundings, no fake upscale crap. Its not the best pizza in Boston (hello Santarpio's) but it belongs in the same conversation. Most certainly a hidden gem.

    (5)
  • Colleen S.

I love this place. I can't even remember how I learned about it, I can only assume it was a hidden treasure found after a night out in Harvard Square. Since this discovery I've had the cab stop at Pinocchio's more than once on my way home at 1 or 2 in the morning. Try to remember the name of the street it's on, bring cash and come willing to wait in line - it moves fast, no worries. And get the spinach. 2 of 'em.

well This place is Harvard's finest pizza place. With some of the Delicious topping on the Sicilian pizza! this the place to be. Me and my went to this wonderful " hole in the wall' place (no I'm serious about the hole in the wall part, me and my friends got lost trying to fine this place) Any way this is the place to really go to...even if it's named after a fairy tale character, you'll live happily ever after after leaving this place.

Very good sicilian slices. Quick, and good to eat on the go. Probably my favorite pizza in and around Boston (along with Ernesto's). The slices are just so delicious and there are so many favorites. At $2.50 a pop a slice is worth it and pretty filling, I think you can get 2 slices for a deal. A great spot for lunch, Its always hoppin' and definitely has a reputation for being one of the best pizza places in the city.

    (5)
  • Jamie C.

The hidden gem of Harvard Square. Less foot traffic than 'that other place' at the mall, but MUCH better pizza. The place itself is not the greatest, and at crowded times it can be a nightmare. Still, it is a pizza place, and the pizza is to die for.

    (4)
  • Fareed M.

Pinocchio's get 4 stars if you're sober, but about 7 stars if you're drunk. I figure that averages out to 5. It's simple. Just get a Sicilian slice. Any Sicilian slice.

Great pizza place in Harvard Square. The silician pizza is fresh, cheap and a good deal at 2 for $4. We tried the Spinach and Tomato/Basil and were not disappointed. The subs are also extremely tasty as I had Turkey. Highly recommend this whole in the wall to anyone in the Harvard Square area !!

  • Shiva K.

Ok, I would have never stepped into this place if I were just walking by it. Once again, thankkk goddd for Yelp! Most of the review said excellent things, so we decided to give it a try. It's a tiny, whole-in-the wall place, but don't let its appearance fool you. The pizza I had here was the best i've had in a long long time. If you have at least two people, I recommend getting a pie...they even split it up by toppings..a small pie was the perfect size for two medium-quantity eaters.

I spent a weekend in Boston, visiting my sister who goes to college there (go terriers!). On my last day in Boston, before my flight we made a mad dash to Pinocchio's. And it was so worth the trouble of rushing through Cambridge and dealing with the T on a holiday weekend. This might be one of my favorite pizza places ever. But that list changes every time I find a new pizza place.

  • Matt B.

Good pizza, open late, you've probably figured out the drill by now. I've only been there after 1am and it can be a pain to get a table. Be prepared to either hover annoyingly or grab a seat in the park across the street. The crust is amazing. Try to get a corner slice if you can. I don't know why, but I love them.

my search continues for good pizza in cambridge...... Me and the gf saw pinnochio reviews on yelp. After experincing oggis the disaster we tried it. we arrived inthe pouring rain..... order a slice of cheese first. vs a large pie( we wanted the option to cut our losses after 1 pie) result is... a You people out here dont know good pizza... really. you know chowder, you know boston accents, you know bad driving ... but you dont know pizza!!!! Crust was crunchy , like dry crunchy as in no flavor and kind of sort of burnt. Sauce.. no taste needs more oregano and sugar... Cheese was ehh. The entire thing had no "soul" it was meh.... I am honestly thinking that bertuccis might be the best pizza out there. .. next stop is armando's and village kitchen..... let s see

What can I say? They are open late which is very hard to find in harvard sq. other than charlie's kitchen (which doesn't serve pizza). The pizza is up there in my top 5 spots to eat pizza in the Boston area. I go here whenever I can!

  • William M.

I think this is easily the best pizza in Harvard Square. The pizza is thick, but the crust is so good you won't complain. The variety is awesome. The place itself is simple, and was tricked out with the addition of a poster celebrating the Italian Soccer Team and their World Cup win. The dudes behind the counter never disapoint. Sweet slices!

The first time that I ate at Pinocciho's Pizza was on Sunday, July 26, 2009. I went there twice that day, and that's how great this place is. I actually ate there yesterday. I am very familiar with other pizza places, like Pino's, Presto Pizzeria Restaurant , and Santarpia's. I'm actually buddies with Pino's GM, named Mr. Osmani. So anyways, Pinocchio's Pizza is excellent. I've had their thick, Sicilian crust pizza, but never their thin crust. Their sausage pizza is excellent, followed by their tomatoe/basil. Their pepperoni is great, but I prefer the other two. This place is more crowded than Pino's, and it's smaller as well. I'm so surprised that I've never been here before until now. Lastly, I wish that they sold thin crust pizza by the slice.

Ah, tomato basil slice, how I have missed thee. Four stars for food quality, +1 star for history. And the steak & cheese with mushroom is also not to be missed.

It's been a solid year and a half since my trip to Boston, but I still drool over the slice of pizza that I had at Pinocchio's. It was so fricken good. And cheap! And delicious. I want more.

While there are countless better places to eat in the Square, Pinocchio's is damn tasty and definitely worth it if you're in a rush or just want some delicious comfort pizza, rather than going for the fancy schmancy stuff.

reliably great pizza - gotta love the sicilian style crust - thick, but light and a perfectly crisp bottom

  • Lauren B.

Pinocchio's is now the best pizza in Harvard Square. Back before banks and corporations took over Harvard Square, Cafe Aventura had a monopoly on slices, but Pinocchio's has taken over. Tucked away in a side street, it's a tiny place that serves up generous slices oozing with cheese and just enough grease to make it really tasty. I love the casual, family atmosphere and it seems like the guys behind the counter really love working here.

    (4)
  • Jesse M.

THE BEST PIZZA IN HARVARD SQUARE!!! In an area with many pizza choices, Pinocchio's rises above the rest. Delectable and cheap Sicilian slices are the way to go. There's many choices available and two slices is only about $4! Sandwiches are pretty good too and my favorite is the Italian. This pizza is so good it will make your wang grow, not your nose.

    (5)
  • J L.

LOVE the cheese pizza. They must have some special ingredient in their sauce that gives it a kick. Sicilians are the bomb! I love the tomato basil in particular; spinach is yums. Have not ventured farther than that. O, ordered everything on a pie - went there a bit late, so was cold. The taste was on the good side, not excellent. The staff are all busy behind the counter, sometimes I catch them at a non-busy moment and the banter is refreshing. Instead of complaining about their tiredness, they joke about it. Love the attitude!

  • Rebecca C.

i really give them 4 1/2 stars. (minus a half because they should expland it at least a little or maybe open one more in the area. its very small and very capable of getting crowded.) apparently they are a very famous harvard square pizza place, and ben affleck himself said that its his favorite pizza place in the world, and i can see why. their pizza was delicious, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. their pizza is squared and the bread is soft enough to enjoy the bite into it (definitely NOT thin crust if youre into that) but still baked to perfection. i got to mix and match any two slices and a small drink for about $6 (4.15 or something for just the two slices). the guys that work there definitely have some character and you can tell theyve been doing this a while. this is a pizza place you must visit if youre in the cambridge area. great on the wallet and belly!! (and they do take out which might be a good idea for the space issue).

  • kellan e.

Boston has several solid, even great pizza joint, but very few decent by the slice options. Heat lamps warming slowly congealing stale cardboard spinning limply in their glass box is enough to put you off eating all together. Which is why Pinocchio's is great, the good pizza, good location, good price means new pies are coming out constantly, and your chance of getting something fresh and hot are excellent. One of the few places to eat a decent quick lunch on the cheap in Harvard Sq. (now if they'd just bring back the breakfast places)

    (4)
  • Nick P.

This place reminds me of the pizza that I got in middle school- square, on a baking sheet, and sub-par. The only redeeming factor is that it becomes more passable after a night of drinking.

Fantastic!!! In Boston for a conference and happened upon Pinocs. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. So good I came back twice more before flying out. Open late which is also a plus.

I love Pinocchio's but I don't love it enough to say it's the best pizza I've ever had. The reason iI love it is because I love the name...the pizza is good. They do serve Sicilian (Sfincione) but it actually looks more like Roman Flat Pan pizza (Yes, there is a difference). If your in the area and you see Pinocchio's...stop in...I wouldn't go out of my way for it though.

    (3)
  • Andy H.

Do not order the single slice cheese pizza! They take an old slice of cheese pizza then toast it in the oven for a min and serve it hot to you. It tasted old and the sauce was not good. The positives: seeing a white guy speak Spanish fluently to his workers. The pizza slice is cheap 2.30 for a slice but you get what you pay for. I hate to say this but Costco cheese pizza is better!

    (1)
  • R F.

it's hard for me to give this place 5 stars considering it's a hole in the wall down decrepit (sp?) non-charming little place. but... the pizza is absolutely amazing for $2 apparently their steak and cheese is better than philly too don't ask me though i've just had the pizza and been completely satisfied... excellent

  • Captain R.

After all the hype, I'm unimpressed. Don't get me wrong, It's good solid Sicilian pizza at a reasonable price. It's just not great and not quality enough to overcome the small crowded seating area (read: you won't get a seat at lunch time). It's open late night and geared for college students. If you're not a college student, I wouldn't recommend it.

    (3)
  • Lindsay L.

When I first moved to Boston, I was highly disappointed in the pizza options. Even when some restaurants had decent pizza, they were usually overpriced. Then I tried Pinnochio's and finally found a place in the Boston area with absolutely delicious pizza--at a cheap price. The spinach pizza is amazing! It's the reason that I stop by Pinnochio's about once or twice a week.

This place is religion. I first discovered it in the summer of 1988 while at Harvard Summer School. I've been going there ever since. The thing that is so amazing about this place is the consistency in their product. My favorite things to order? A corner Sicillian slice of pepperoni, to be eaten while a large steak & cheese sub is being prepared. Clearly I can't do that every day, but once a month works just fine. This place is good and cheap and will always be there. In fact, I'm heading over now!

  • Nico F.

Nothing compares to a slice of tomato basil Sicilian fresh out of the oven. The crust is amazing and they use good oil. The subs are pretty good, too. I can safely say that their Sicilian slices are probably the best in Cambridge.

    (4)
  • Ben A.

This place is the best...why; because they have the best sicilian pizza in boston. AND they are open till 2AM. I have spent a lot of late nights here. The workers are funny to when you see them mess with first timers.

Noch's - as we affectionately call it - after so many years still does not disappoint. A bunch of toppings to choose from (my favorites being tomato & basil, spinach, etc. though I'm not vegetarian!) The sicilian's crust is super light and crunchy. The prices are very reasonable. And, the atmosphere feels like home - with lots of Harvard memorabilia on the walls. Love it.

Excellent pizza crust. Fun, college, like environment. I'm a sucker for thin pizza, but Pinnochios made me love thick crust again. Their subs are pretty rocking good as well. Open late nights, good people, and vibrant location.

Holy Sweet Jesus I worship at the cheesey foot of the 'Nokes. My coworker Matty B. and I used to order a full-size Nokes pizza every Sunday afternoon and we would waste no time in inhaling the entirety of it's seductive cheesey and meaty goodness. Nokes pizza is thick, extravagant, and not incredibly greasy. It will make you weep out of sheer joy.

Yay 'Nokes! I still visit every time I'm in Harvard Sq. Haven't found pizza quite like this in NY yet, sniff sniff.

I will add my voice to the crowd of Yelpers who have already said how FREAKING GREAT THE PIZZA IS HERE. Because, you see, those Yelpers are absolutely correct. Sicilian style pizza outside of the North End that is worth having to stand in line with a bunch of annoying Harvard students to get, for a decent price. It is always delicious. EAT THIS PIZZA.

I have been told by many to go here for the best pizza and, frankly, I don't understand. I mean, it is alright and all and I guess it has been around for forever. But the pizza was just decent and nothing to write home about. the old guys behind the counter were amusing in that they have probably been there for 20 years. The seating area was small and not well cleaned. I have yet to be blown away by a pizza joint in the Boston area. Someone help me!

First ate here in '93, and it's been consistently good since. You can smell this place from a block away-- that's a good thing. Reasonably priced, and, in my opinion the 4th best pizza eatery in the Boston Metro area (after Santarpio's, Regina's and Pino's).

We stopped in Pinocchio's on the way out of Cambridge to grab a slice. It was just ok pizza, for pretty cheap you get a big, bready, square slice. I would not recommend the tomato and fresh mozzarella pizza (unless you don't like cheese on your pizza), there was only a tiny slice of mozzarella in the center. For a super fast and cheap lunch this place is ok, but I would imagine there are better lunch spots in the area.

I always make time for Pinocchi's when I'm in harvard sq. My favorite is their tomato and basil sicilian pizza..drooool. The service is quick, the prices rock and they are open late. nuff said.

Pizza is ok but whats with the attitude? Not cool or hip to get snide looks and attitude for ordering two slices, getting one, and asking for the second slice that you had indeed ordered... whose fault is that? And whats the big deal, just heat up the slice of pizza. Instead, I got a whole of of eye rolling, pizza slamming, and gnashing of change. Whatever. Would rather just get pizza than drama.

Tucked around the corner from Shay's. Get yourself a cheeseburger sub with extra hots and an Orangina then grind away under the beautiful storybook mural and ghosts of Harvard hockey's past.

My favorite pizza in the Boston area. Thick slices of pizza available late and incredibly cheap. Yes, they sell by the slice! Many topping selections, great flavors. My favorite is the tomato basil. This place gets busy so the pizza is almost always fresh and delicious. The restaurant is tiny and tucked away so pay attention or you might miss it, and you don't want to miss it! Terrific wall mural with a mermaid too!

I have been going to Pinocchio's for over 10 years and it is still my all-time favorite pizza place. I'll let you know if I ever find a better place but at this point I doubt I ever will.

Such a beautiful hidden place, while known for the delicious sicilian pizza, espicialy the tomato basil, what alot of people overlook is the amazing steak and cheese here. Its not like your run of the mill d'angelos steak and cheese, no sir this is deliciousness at its finest. Pinocchio's i love you. Go in before 12:45 on the weekends so you dont have to wait and have a better selection.

Pizza is good but not special. It's the cheese and steak sub you need to order. Not a big fan of the Sicilian style pizza ( I think Concerta's in Providence, RI is better) but their thin-crust slices are mighty fine. Open late at night so it's going to taste even better because you don't have much choice in the matter. Still, I eat here during the day too.

I've lived in Boston for a year, and I can say that this is, thus far, the best pizza around. Crispy crust, tasty toppings, and all for a reasonable price.

Tomato basil pizza here rocks my world. It's the way local pizza places should be, busy, quick, a whirlwind of shouting and ordering and scarfing down consistently delicious slices.

I've only had the chance to sample a small fraction of the pizza places in the Boston area, but this one is one of my favorites. If you like your New York style pizza, this is definitely a place to check out.
