This is just a hole in the wall with outdoor seating, nothing fancy other than the beautiful courthouse as a backdrop. The food there is excellent, their original gyros is my go to. The pork is cooked to perfection and the Tzatziki sauce is refreshing. Ordering is extremely quick and the pricing is decent. Overall it's a great place for lunch with amazing gyros.

Three words...chicken rice bowl!! Oh my goodness, the rice and chicken were both perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the tzatziki sauce is really good! Now I know why there's a line out of the door every day. It was so delicious and flavorful that I kept eating, and I realized once my container was empty that I didn't stop to take a picture! I guess I'll have to go back again for lunch later this week -- twist my arm. Yum!

This place has been on my bookmarks ever since I started using Yelp and I'm so glad I get to finally try this place out. And it's my 1st time trying gyros! I got the original gyro and I have to say I'm a lot more impressed than what I expected. A simple, quick order, just $8, no more no less and I'm glad I went here. Inside was like, shredded pork, onions, tomatoes, sour cream, and etc. Note that the pork is really lean! It was my 1st time experiencing gyros and I was starving so I chowed it down real quick but it was really yummy. I wish I savored it a little more LOL. Oh well. I will def come back here.

Open weekdays only, we went with the Original Gyro/Pita $8.00 and enjoyed it.

This place is probably a 4.5 for me! Zo's is a great lunch spot for all the busy professionals downtown. I've tried the tuna and mozzarella/basil gyros, and they were both filling and delicious. The tuna was interesting as it was something like canned tuna vs. a whole fillet but somehow it worked. The mozzarella was almost a bit overwhelming as there were huge chunks in the whole sandwich but was balanced by the vinaigrette throughout the sandwich. And the PITA. SO GOOD. Honestly, the gyro wouldn't be half as delicious without that fluffy goodness. The only thing I wonder about is why the original gyro with tons of meat is the same price as the vegetarian ones? $8 is still a fair price for a convenient, healthy, and delicious lunch though!

  • Aly B.

Simple menu and ingredients, outstanding lunch spot. Zo staff are fast and friendly and their food is consistently fresh and delicious! The bread in the gyros is especially good. And an added bonus- as someone who is allergic to tree nuts and used to shawarma places stuffing their meat with pine nuts and fillers- the meat Zo uses is 100% meat and allergen free! Definitely a lunch spot that never gets old!

Great gyro!! I stopped by for a quick bite and this place was perfect. They really have a great system going because you pretty much yell your order out when it gets to you and by the time you get to the register your food is already ready! I ordered the original gyro for $8. There is a good amount of seating on site so I plopped down at the counter area and dug in. The sandwich is giant so I had a hard time finishing the whole thing, they really pack it full of meat. The tzatziki sauce was really yummy and they add a liberal amount which is legit. Only complaint is that there weren't enough onions, and the tomatoes were cubed so they kinda fall all over the place. The flavor of the sandwich is really good though! This is a great place to pick up a gyro or a salad for a quick meal. Definitely check it out if you are craving some Greek food!

I used to work right near this Zo and I miss it so much! Throughout last winter, I had soups from Zo just about everyday. My favorites- Lamb Chili and Hungarian Mushroom. Such delicious and filling soups. They change up there soup menu just about everyday but you can check their website and social media to find out what they have. The Avgolemono soup is also really good and I'm pretty sure they have that everyday. Fast and friendly service....definitely a downtown lunch staple.

  • Sam P.

This is not only my favorite lunch spot in the area - its pretty much the best Greek food I've ever had! Definitely get the original and let them do their thing. The meat is savory (and not fatty like most gyros), the tzatziki is creamy and the pita is SO fluffy. This place is the best :)

  • Raj B.

I was asked to wait five minutes just because i asked that the sauce be not put on the gyro but separately.! Beside me there was another customer being made to wait because she asked for no onions on hers. It was obvious that they want to create an example that if you ask for something a little different, we will make you wait and pay for it. The food is good but with the prices going up by a whole dollar on the gyros from August 1, it is not going to be as much value as it used to be. So I won't be returning as often, and after this experience, not sure of that either.

I came here for lunch last week while downtown doing jury duty. Staff was friendly and the service was super speedy. Everything about this gyro was perfect. The pita was warm, soft, and so fluffy... like your favorite winter quilt. The meat was piping hot, tender, and flavorful. I don't know what's in their tzatziki sauce but it's like no other tzatziki sauce I've ever tasted. Their tomatoes are marinated in a delicious, tangy sauce that makes the whole thing taste bright. So many delicious flavors and textures! I inhaled the entire thing and then got sad because it was all gone. It was the perfect meal and one of the best things I've ever eaten in Boston. Breaks my heart that they're only open during lunch hours on weekdays. It makes me want to do jury duty again. It's that good.

Great gyros! Fresh, not fake, and tasty. Very simple lunch counter, only two small tables, but the food is delicious and the counter staff friendly. Grab a sandwich to go and eat it on a park bench.

I must say that Boston has become a very lucky city! 3 real Gyro shops in the city! I must ZO is doing a great job with its Gyro! The traditional Gyro is awesome! These guys are doing a great job! If you are in the city you must go and try their food!

  • Gigi L.

Word on the street was that Zo had the best Gyros ever. I would respectfully disagree. We were the last customers of the day since they close at 3pm, so maybe that is the reason they were not as good as everyone proclaims. I ordered the chicken and thought it was pretty dry even with the amount of tzatziki sauce they drenched on it. I've had too many gyros in my days to consider this a top contender in top gyro list. Service was awesome though, never rushed us even though they were closing.

There is limited seating inside the location itself, it is primarily intended for take-out, however, as such there is usually seating available, but there are no public restrooms. Anyway... the service here is scary quick, I don't mean McDonald's quick where your meal is prepared in 90 seconds... I mean, in the most literal sense possible, your food is prepared before you have a chance to say "Zo Authentic Gyros" twice. However, they are consistent with quality, and that quality us excellent throughout the net tire gyro. They do accommodate requests from what I understand too, and hat does not impede the quality or speed of the service. Requests being stuff like no onions, extra tomatoes, or a split between chicken and pork. Pork itself sits roasting right in fop root of you, and they are constantly shaving off new pieces to be out into people's gyros. The pork is. Cooked well, but not really seasoned. However, the gyro does have a load of ingredients that add flavor, and there is salt and pepper available. But even me, who puts salt and pepper on everything died not find the need to add seasoning. They also have very good and strong habanero sauce that you can add. And what doesn't taste better with a little habanero sauce? Maybe ice cream... Maybe... As a final not be sure to check their hours of operation, as they are not open all they, only for the hours surrounding lunch time.

This place is a godsend to the fairly blah food environment of the Boston Financial District. Everything is good and highlights include the original Gyro, the Lamb Chili, and the Spanakopita. Furthermore, their soup menu often includes rotational specials that are generally delicious. Not a place to sit down and eat, so be warned before making lunch plans.

  • Kristine A.

Despite the fact this place has tasty food, there are things I don't like about it, namely the people. To be more specific there is a girl who works there that is super pushy, rude & ignorant. Don't waste your money there.

    (1)
  • Brian L.

Gyros ---- eee-rows --- not ji-rows... good ones here. Stick to the Original.... much stuff to love on it from tzatziki sauce to moist pork and heaped with tomatoes, onions and such. Pork is a bit saltier earlier in the day. Chicken gyro was a bit dry. Still good but not great. Lamb chili is very tasty and goes great with the cold weather. People say they have good salads but I am a Meatatarian and haven't tried them. Baklava was sticky and sweet. Pepsi - no, Coke.

  • Khanh P.

Was craving for some gyros (yir-ros? gee-ros?) and this really satisfied my cravings however I want some more so I'll have to come back. Generous portion especially for lunch time, packed with tons of meat- of-your- choice and omg the tzitzki sauce is right there with every bite. I really liked that they had diced tomatoes and onions which didn't make the gyro feel so heavy. we went around 1230 and line was not crazy, moving fairly quick. They had two high top tables for about 4 people and thats it for their sitting arrangements. I also had the baklava based on reviews and it was not bad but was a bit too sweet after a few bites. I've had different variations of baklava and this one had a nice flaky dough with a semi crunch filling. The entrance is on the side of the street heading towards faneuil hall area.

I got the original gyro. Very fast service. The food was nice and warm. However, I am a little disappointed. Perhaps my expectation was too high because of the great reviews and hype that I saw on yelp. The meat was too dry and salty for my taste. The pita bread was a bit tougher than I'd like it to be. Yogurt and veggie on top was good and helped to balance the taste. But, I have to say I've had better gyros before....

    (3)
  • Jay K.

This place has great gyros and soups, but it is very pricey. I have a small issue with the gyro meat-it's little scraps rather than the large pieces one normally expects in a gyro. Very tasty scraps, but still scraps. The lamb chilli is excellent, very different. You can't get out of there for less than $14 for a filling meal and drink.

    (3)
  • Kelli A.

Zo is great. I work near by and it's a reliable spot for fast, delicious lunch options. Great salads, and I love their bread. Everyone I work with enjoys this place, especially the gyros. My only complaint is that they recently changed their creamy tomato soup (my favorite!) and it's not as good :[ the other soups and chilies are delicious, though.

    (4)
  • Lauretta L.

Out of all the perfect 5 star reviews, mine is going to be the lonely loner in the corner. Maybe the meat gets drier as Zo nears closing time, but that should not be the case! I came a bit after 2 (they close at 3) and ordered a half Original and half Chicken Gyro. While the gyro is large, the pita's got the chew and fluff, and the tzatziki is tangy and full of dill, the meat is just too dry. All in all, not that impressed. I've been too spoiled by Yiassoo back home.

  • David G.

I feel like it's been so long since I've had a decent Gyro. Although, no. I had a good one in Indiana at King Gyro yelp.com/biz/king-gyros-… and I also had a great one in NYC a couple of months ago. So seeing Zo around the corner from the office made me feel the dread of another 10 pounds an 2" around the waist. Unfortunately (or luckily), Zo didn't deliver on either of the two occasions on which I visited. Both times the meat they served was from the line and not off of the rotisserie. Consequently, both times, the meat was somewhat dry and mediocre. I was hoping that the first time was a fluke but no... I'm thinking about those Gyro kits from the freezer section of the grocery store. I don't know why I thought of those just now. Meh.

Excellent Greek salad: plenty of fresh Feta, mesclun greens, fresh dressing, olives & peppers. Served with a piece of warm & fresh pita. Open M-F 11-3. Get here for lunch!

  • Ryan A.

This is a review for their food truck, Zo on the Go. I was randomly walking by the Prudential Building after the gym and I came across this gem. The grape leaves were delicious and the Mediterranean salad was awesome. Tasty and healthy! I'll definitely be back soon!

  • Paul E.

Very solid lunch spot. The menu may seem limited, but you don't really need much more when you do a gyro as well as they do. The staff are friendly and helpful. This is a small place, but it is clean. I had the classic and it was excellent. The pita was perfect, soft, yet it held up well to the filling. The topping were well proportioned and marries up perfectly. My only complaint was that it was a tad salty.

    (4)
  • Sal W.

I tried the chicken, it was really dry. I would say stick with the pork Gyro

    (4)
  • Melissa B.

Just had a chicken gyro from the food truck at Dewey Sq for lunch. I'm a big fan. Flavorful chicken, nice garlicky tzatziki sauce & chopped tomato. I've had nicer bread on these, but this will do for a quick lunch. Decent portion size for the price. VERY quick line and friendly service. I would go again & try something else.

  • Lilly D.

1- Surprisingly aggressive and rude staff. 2- Only pork gyro is served, very limited choices no beef or lamb 3- If you are health conscious this is not the place for you 4- They have good rating because of price and quantity, if you are about quality then this is not the place for you

  • Derek C.

Fabulous lunch spot for pick-up. My favorite is the chicken gyro. They have some outdoor chairs but sometimes it's a little crowded with the lunch crew. Sometimes the food is a little messy but it's delish

  • Jonny C.

Talk about being late to the party, great googly moogly! The original gyro is unlike any gyro Ive ever had, and is better. Heaps and heaps of succulent pork, topped with the classic fixins piled into a beautiful pita. This is a fork eater; dont even think about trying to pick this bad boy up, unless you want an enormous Greek spill all up on yo' shirt. So good, and the little things make it perfect: great hot sauce selection (Sriacha, El Yucatan in 3 varieties, Cholula), super fast assembly line and a fair price point at an even $8 bones. The only thing I would change is the location: how am I going to find time to get over here from Cambridge during lunch? Im drooling.

  • Douglas J. B.

It's a good truck, but it's a truck. They want to charge like they're a 5-star in Manhattan. 13 dollars for a wrap and a soup is ridiculous.

Zo's is located by government center and a popular lunch spot for many who works in the area. I got my original gyro within 2 minutes of ordering it. It's got a perfect amount of meat, tomatoes, onions, and sauce. All the ingredients tasted fresh and delicious, there was also seating right outside, definitely coming back here again.

A bit pricey, but great food. Everything taste very fresh and their lamb chili is amazing!

  • Ashlea R.

I love coming here for lunch. Partially because it is ridiculously close to my office, but mostly because it's delicious! The menu isn't huge, but that's okay with me. I'd rather a restaurant focus on making a few things really well than a bunch of things mediocrely. Really great gyros (chicken or pork)and avgolemono soup (chicken-lemon-rice). The lines can get a little long sometimes, but service is always really quick. My only gripe is their limited hours- closed on the weekends and after 3p during the week. Really frustrating when I get a craving on a Saturday!

    (5)
  • Alex B.

Very solid gyro with fresh tasty tomato and great tzatziki sauce. The only thing I can fault them for is the pork - its actually real meat sliced thin and a bit dry. I like the squishy stuff with a ton of spices mixed in which is probably lower quality but tastes fantastic.

    (3)
  • Christy L.

What the &$?! is this low fat nonsense? Sigh I get it, I get it... It's low fat. But why you no taste good? Why? Lentil soup why did you scare the salt away? Why?? I'm sorry :( I really wanted to be friends.

  • Sergio M.

I came in at noon and got the Chicken Gyro. The gyro was a bit dry but a abundant. They are very fast from order to pay, and I was out the door less then a min. After all of the hype I was expecting a more flavorful gyro.

    (3)
  • Robyn B.

One of my favorite FiDi lunch spots. In the summer, I get the Greek Salad with Chicken--very fresh, light, and they give you generous portions of meat. In the winter, the Original Gyro and a cup of the lentil soup is my go-to. I've never been disappointed. Nice staff, too.

    (5)
  • Rachel M.

This is one of my favorite places for lunch in Boston. I have only had the original gyro but it is reasonable priced and very tasty. Meat is well cooked, fresh ingredients, perfect if you are craving a gyro. You may have to brave a crowd as it is pretty popular but their service is very fast and efficient.

    (5)
  • Vafa A.

The original gyro might be the best I've ever had. I am, by no means, a gyro fanatic. However, I do love a good sammie and this one was certainly that. Fresh ingredients, high quality meat and produce make this place a must visit for all foodies!

    (5)
  • Vivian C.

Boy, I'm full. $8 for the original pork gyro was a good deal given the quality and quantity of shredded meat topped with diced tomatoes and sour cream in the nice chewy thick pita. I didn't even eat mine all by myself, but shared a bit with a friend. Tasted my friend's chicken pita though - the meat was sliced chunks. Moist enough. Not much seating inside - just a few stools by the counter along the walls. But they have some tables and chairs outside which works for a nice day. Or if it is a bit wet, there's an overhang covering a few of those tables just by the entrance. There's a recycle bin inside for your cans and bottles by the way. The location is a tad hidden. When you view 3 Center Plaza from the street (or from the Government Center T), you won't see Zo. You will however see Zoup! which is not Zo despite the coincidental use of the letter "Z." There's a combo escalator/stairway by Odessa - head up that way and Zo will be on your right.

    (4)
  • Ariana Z.

What a shame this place does not open later for dinner or on weekends because I would go here all the time. Zo already has many great reviews to its name, so me rating it five stars is a little redundant but still....I had to say how much I love this place. The original gyro is phenomenal, fresh, lean yet juicy, and packs great flavor in each bite. Don't let the tiny menu deceive you- they do their stuff well.

    (5)
  • Danny A.

I don't understand the hype behind this place. I keep giving this place a second chance but the pork and chicken is always dry, extremely greasy, and drenched in far too much tzatziki sauce. I leave feeling like I ate something greasier than a cheeseburger and not as satisfying.

    (2)
  • Natalie J.

A co-worker raved about this place to me, so I stopped in today on my lunch break. I ordered the veggie pita ($8.) The girl at the register was very friendly, and it was prepared promptly. The pita and veggies were fresh; I just didn't think it was anything extraordinary. Maybe my expectations were set too high. The seats were empty, but the doors were wide open, even on a 25 degree day. This must be the type of place where people stop in and take their lunch to-go, with every intention of eating it in the office. I had intended to sit and enjoy my lunch, but it was literally freezing! I will come back and give it another try.

    (4)
  • rochelle l.

Disappointed! I got a Greek salad with chicken, the salad had exactly one olive, a sprinkle of feta cheese, two cucumber slices, one cherry tomato and a roasted pepper atop a full bed of wilted mixed salad greens for $9.00, really $9.00?! For $9.00 I expect a little more than that. The chicken is DRY and overall the salad is meh! Spanakopita for $5.00 is delish and a better deal.

  • Mary B.

ZO, IT HAS A FLAVOR! A serious flavor. Ok, Yelp, lead me to the latest and greatest of downtown lunch finds. I will walk through tourist central and fight through the rest of the suity lunch crowd for ya. Zo is small and unassuming, clean and bright. Walk right up to the counter and let em know what you want, the menu is small so it won't take you long to decide. Pay up while you wait and get your brown sack of deliciousness. I think my entire visit took less than a minute. Soft, warm pita bread + moist chicken infused with spices + tomatoes + onions + tzatziki + fresh parsley + sprinkling of red pepper = flavor essssplosion. The baklava wasn't half bad either.

  • Brian D.

Great stuff here. This is a great lunch place, super fast, super big and super delicious. I now work in a couple of locations and Zo in the Govt Center plaza sits right in the middle of the two offices, so I'll come here every 2 weeks or so when traveling from one location to the other for delicious lunchies. $8 will basically get you any on the menu, which may be a tad high for a lunch everyday of the week if you go out. I usually get the Gyro, either the regular or chicken are quite good. Lots of veggie accompaniments with it, TONS of meat, just excellent overall. I always grab a plastic fork on the way out because many of times its the only way to eat it. Sometime the meat can be dry, in which case its not a 5 star rating, but the rest of the items on the Gyro make up for the seldom dry slice of meat. I like this place alot, hungry just thinking about coming back here.

  • Liz B.

I'm not a gyro expert but I was very unimpressed with the food and the service at this place. First of all, when I said I wanted water with my original gyro, I was first charged for it, then the cashier left me stranded at the register for several minutes, then asked me whether I wanted tap or bottle, then deducted the cost from my total and fiddled with the register to rectify it. It was all unnecessarily complicated. She proceeded to fill me a cup from the tap, which was cloudy and full of ? particles that never cleared. It didn't look safe to drink, so I just threw it out. As for the food, it was very greasy, and made me feel ill afterwards. I liked the pita, but didn't really care for the overcooked dry contents. Ah well. If this is the best gyro that Boston has to offer, I'll avoid gyros in Boston from now on.

  • Veronique L.

Original gyro and avgolemono times two and a fresca = $27.55. Not bad when I get to catch up with a friend and enjoy a great lunch at an efficiently run place. I've been here before, but my friend had not. He seemed to really like it. I was going to order just the gyro but on a cold lunch day like yesterday, the soup sounded like a great idea. It comes with pita and is a great way to offset the lemon-y flavor of the soup. Like others have noted, the gyro is small but it's good with the tzatziki sauce, tomatos, onions, and pork. It's easy to quickly consume this. There is seating inside and outside, and even on a dreary day, there was a line but like I said, this place is efficient and customers do not wait long for their orders. Hours are limited: 11 - 3, M - F.

Delicious original gyro. Service is fast and pleasant. I'd come back. YUM. This is for the food truck!

The pitas: so soft, so warm, so comforting. Swoon. The rest of the ingredients in my tomato basil mozzarella wrap were good too, but I'm thinking I could probably survive quite some time solely on Zo's pitas from heaven. If you're looking for something meatier, try the original gyro, which my dining companion gave an enthusiastic thumbs up. Full post: forkitoverboston.blogspo…

It is rare that I am able to crawl out of my home office cave for lunch in the wild, but I have done so in order to eat at Zo. It's totally worth the effort. Get the original gyro. The first time I came, I was on a tight schedule and they had just run out of pork, so I gamely plunged into a chicken gyro instead. It was good, but on its own would not bring me back. No, I returned because I was lured by the siren song of the original gyro. And lo, it was beautiful. The gyro boasts fluffy, soft pita, tender, greasy pork, and a bevy of chopped tomatoes and onions in a lava puddle of tzatziki . . . oh man, it is DELICIOUS. And it is MESSY. You have to be comfortable getting your hands (and possibly face) dirty to get every last savory bite. So try not to wear anything that needs to be dry cleaned. You absolutely need to sit to eat this gyro, and unfortunately Zo doesn't have a lot of real estate for that. Your options are to carry it out, jockey for space at the counter or outdoor patio, or wear a full-body plastic lobster bib from which you can lick the dribbles of gyro guts as you eat. You choose.

We were just in time on our very first day in Boston to eat here as they strictly close at 3 pm. Everything was spot on and so flavorful so as to write home about. Do give them a try if you are in the area for their fresh sandwiches and hot and piping soups.

The truck stopped coming by my office a few weeks ago, I was crushed. The first Friday I thought it was a fluke, my heart sank the following Friday when once again the rolling bastion of hope and deliciousness failed to arrive. I spent the following weekend sniveling and crying and then, in a moment of weakness, I vowed to get even. over the next two weeks I found myself in bed with every kind of gyro this filthy city had to offer. Some big, some little, some classy and some trashy. Some days I would eat my gyro pretending to be someone else, someday I would pretend it was a Zo Gyro I was defiling. It got to a point where I didn't even have time to wipe the tzatziki from my lips before I was craving another emotionally void, unfulfilling gyro. I was at my wits end when I decided to call an old friend. "You know there are 2 brick and mortar locations within an easy walking distance from your office" This benevolent voice of reason told me. "You are in IT, don't you know how to use the internet?" And so it went, I found not one but BOTH store locations and somehow, some way the gyros sold there are even better than those in the trucks. The lines are long and as the months get warmer I know I will eventually rue the day I discovered Zo but for right now, I am content indulging in a gyro that reminds me of the joy of living.

Best Gyros in the city. Always very fresh and fast. The price per Gyro is $8.00, which is a little steep, but they seem to sell out every day and it is easy to see why. I like both the Chicken and Lamb Gyros. If you're near Government Center, stop by Zo and grab a little pita filled with heaven.

  • George P.

Great authentic pork gyros. Tasty with proper ingredients. It would be a choice for me even back in Greece, which says a lot. I give 4 stars only because they are playing a bit hard to get. Open 11-3 workdays only, no restrooms, no ice cubes, no plates, no cups. It can be annoying.

    (4)
  • Matt O.

Stop reading this and go order an "original gyro" from Zo. This is by far the best gyro I've ever had. The toppings are fresh (I love cilantro), the meat is tasty and not too fatty, and the yogurt sauce is just right to blend it all together. Not bad, $7 for a filling lunch. I will head back soon and try the chicken gyro, for science.

    (5)
  • Emily H.

Sooooo good. Best gyro I've ever had. The only drawback is that they have "lunch hours." I wish Zo would open in neighborhoods and do normal resto hours because sometimes I need a gyro at night!

    (5)
  • Ginny L.

Get the original gyro. Seriously. It is overstuffed and sincerely delicious. This place only has a few menu items but they are super fast and they do them well. Limited seating...busy during lunch hours as its in the downtown business plaza...primarily a grab and go unless it's a nice day in which case there are a few tables outside.

It's times like my first visit to Zo when I have an internal crisis and wish that the god of ethnicity assortment for new children would have made me a nice little Greek boy. The noms from this place are not quantifiable by sheer numbers. Oh no. These bad boiz are not only sizable, but are also as cheap as a good lunch can get around here, and possibly the best gyro I've had, bar none. So sad that it's just open for lunch, as I'm sure that if this place were catering to all the late night drunk people in the area, there would be a riot/mob/people climbing on light posts just to get their hands on this delectable good (and I'm sure you'd find me shamelessly torpedoing myself past the mob into the place... Hail Mary, suckaz).

One word AMAZING!!! The restaurant is on the other side of Center Plaza, not facing the street. I walked around the street side for sometime and almost gave up before realizing there were stores around back. There was a small line even around 1:00pm on a Wednesday, but the line moves really fast. The gyros here at absolutely delicious! I can't even begin to describe the flavors. The tzatziki sauce is absolutely amazing. Upon biting into the gyro, you feel the sensation of the three different ingredients: the meat, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce. Upon chewing the ingredients mix together to give an incredible flavor explosion and leaves your mouth feeling happy and satisfied. I would, and have already, recommended the place to others. I will definitely be returning. It's been three days now and I'm still thinking of that gyro...maybe I'll head out there and get one now!

Amazing! I've gotten lunch here probably twice a week for the last two years. Their soups are out of this world. Veggie lentil is my favorite, followed closely by artichoke asparagus. I like their avgolemono (lemon chicken rice) as well, though the first time I got it I was surprised it was a little creamy. Only get the Hungarian mushroom if you really like mushrooms -- it's good but definitely mushroom-y. Gyros including tomato, basil & mozzarella are great, but messy! Never tried their salads, but I've heard they are very good as well. The line can be intimidatingly long, but it moves fast and the service is very friendly. Cheap too -- I can usually get lunch for around $6. All in all, one of my Boston favorites!

Yummers!! I was in town meeting a friend for lunch and, wanting something not too expensive and on the lighter side, I searched on here for "salads" and Zo popped up. It looked good and I love me a Greek Salad, so we decided to try it. I ended up getting the Chicken Gyro (still on the lighter side, compared to the Indian buffet we had been discussing) and my friend got the Original (pork, not chicken). It was not nearly as messy as I expected - mainly because they wrapped that sucker up well! - and was quite filling. I ate over 2 hours ago and I'm still full, but not overly so (i.e. hurting). It's a pleasant fullness. And for only $8 and change (I got a bottle of water, as I didn't bring mine and they don't do tap water), it's reasonable for a downtown lunch. If I still worked in this area, I'd definitely go here again! Not much seating inside, but I like that they have a few tables outside for when the weather is nice.

Had a bit of trouble finding this place but it was worth it! It's on the back side of the Central Plaza whatever building, this tiny place that churns out amazing Greek food within minutes of you placing your order, smiling staff included. Limited seating but it didn't look like many people ate in anyway; most were business people on the go. We got the chicken & original gyros, and they were both great, although different. Chicken wasn't dry at all (although they did put a LOT of tzatziki sauce in it). The original (pork) was almost like bacon, but I prefer lamb and was sad to see that wasn't an option. They were also a little small for the $7 price tag. They also sell huge triangles of baklava, rice pudding, and lots of other Greek delicacies. I'll let you know how the baklava rates.

  • Liana K.

I'm thinking 3.5 but in comparison to its local competitors it would be a 4 star place. if I didn't run 9 miles (3.5 of which were a race) the day before and wasn't craving a small heart attack for lunch, my review would be otherwise. It was a little more greasy than expected and I prefer lamb meat over pork but the spices were good and the tzatziki sauce combo one of the best I ever had. Nice for once in a while, but too unnecessarily greasy for a regular lunch stop.

    (4)
  • Jessica S.

Small place, nice staff, good food. I got the original pork gyro, lentil soup, and baklava. The only bad thing is my friend and I both found our gyros to be really salty, and I am one who likes a lot of salt as it is. Adding a lot of tatziki sauce helped this. I may come back to try the tomato cheese gyro sometime still and the food was generally good

Enjoying a gyro at Zo is like using a latex condom for the first time. You've shelled out a nervous $7, questioning the hype others have given. While unwrapping it, you ask yourself, "Where's the lamb?" But then you're face deep, loving every minute, intermittently thinking of homemade baklava to prevent yourself from finishing too quickly. Oops. Done and cleaning up the tzatziki (or whatever the kids are calling it these days,) thinking only of the next time it's going to happen. You're giddy - colors are brighter and you can smell music. You come out of your haze and realize you're surrounded by lawyers, execs and elected officials, staring lustily and lining up to get theirs. But you're not the chick from Labyrinth and this isn't Requiem for a Dream so breathe easy and come back tomorrow. Zo will be waiting.

  • Katie S.

Just thinking of this place makes me hungry! I'd wait in line forever (though the typical wait is ~5-8 minutes at peak lunchtime) to order their homemade avgolemono soup (Greek chicken soup with lemon) or a chicken gyro. Pita to die for. Hands down the best place for lunch by Center Plaza / Gov't Center. I wish they were open weekends, so I could bring my friends who don't work nearby!

  • Jeffrey H.

I have no idea why this place is only 4 stars. The chicken gyro I ordered was so good that I considered throwing up the one I ate in order to justify getting another one. Fast, friendly, and delicious. Srzly in and out within 3 minutes. It's 11:55 am. Cut to me running there now and raping my lunch.

  • Zach W.

So I was standing in line admiring this beautiful woman behind me, trying to figure out how to spark up a conversation when I heard her order a GUY-RO......and thought WTF!!!!! It's pronounced YER-ROW or YEAR-ROW, silent G people!!!!! Shut your lips chizzle chest and start munchin on the gnosh (another silent g). I tried the Mozzarella-Tomato-Basil gyro and some spanikopita today. Gyro was good with the balsamic but not as good as the original (I'd give it 3.5/5 stars). Spanikopita was freakin' amazing!!!! GNARLY DUDE!!! Another silent g...... Gnomes even like Zo's gyros......see what I did there....more silent g's.

How do you improve on something that you already thought was perfect?? Add hot sauce to it! After my last visit, I wrote a review of this place and said I wished they provided hot sauces. The owner wrote me "variety of hot sauces on the way!" So I went there today and there they were. I added some cholula (don't use tobasco) to my original gyro, and it was fantastic. Because the pork is so flavorful and the vegetables are so fresh, the hot sauce didn't at all overpower the rest of the ingredients. Just keep it to a few dashes though. Thank you!

I am a huge fan of Esperia Grill in Brighton - best tzatziki sauce I've ever had in my life. BUT - do me a favor and get the chicken gyro from ZO - 11 out of 10! :)

MAJOR thank you to Yelper, Emily G, who suggested this place to me. I think people who work in the city are spoiled, but I'm almost happy I don't because I'd be broke. Places like Zo are why. I hopped off at Government Center and figured I would wander until I found Zo. Thank goodness for that sign near the escalator because I would have never thought to go up those stairs. Dearest sign, I think I love you. Seriously... I walked in at 2 and there were only a few minglers left. I looked at the menu, decided on the chicken, ordered, went to pick up a drink, and BAM! It was ready. Normally this is a HUGE turnoff for me. Immediately produced food usually leaves a lot to be desired. However, this gyro was the absolute exception. I could have eaten a pound of just the fluffy, delicious pita bread but just thinking about the chicken, fresh tomatoes, raw onion, and tzatziki is making me drool. It was definitely bigger than I normally eat for lunch, but I downed the entire thing without hesitation. There was ZERO regret as I walked out incredibly full, incredibly satisfied, and with a big old smile on my face. The thing that really bumped this place from 4 to 5 stars for me was the people who worked there. I was greeted with a smile and as I ate I could hear the employees engage in some witty banter with regulars. I overheard them tell someone it was one of the busiest days they've ever had, but they were still cheery. Major props to them for serving up delicious food and being happy about it! I'll be back on my days off. Until then... it's many dreams of Zo.

I opened up my foil wrapped gyro, and the rest was history. The Original Gyro was juicy, flavorful, and unforgettable! Something about the cilantro, tomato mixture, and yogurt sauce makes for the perfect medley of flavors. $7, closed on the weekends, limited weekday hours

  • Sarah A.

Salads seem to have decreased in size and increased in price.. sad. Will continue checking in here, but I am not sure I'll continue getting the salad. The gyros and wraps are a better value.

    (4)
  • Truthful R.

Just finished a warm, fluffy naan like bread filled to the brim with chicken shavings, topped with tomato, cilantro, onion and Tazaki sauce. Love everything about this place BUT the tzatziki sauce needs work. It's watery and bland... It could add alot to the gryo if it had more creaminess and flavor to stand up to the rest

  • Tina D.

This is a winner! I will admit, I've been putting off trying Zo because I'm a little frightened of navigating around inner center plaza, but I had some free time and decided why not. To my surprise, It was really easy to find. Just go up the escalator and it's on your right. I was greeted with friendly smiles. I quickly got my gyro wrapped up to go and was out the door in 5 minutes. The real magic happened when I got back to the office and took a bite. Holy wow! It was delicious. I now have a feeling I'm going to be coming back a lot... I really want to try some grape leaves and baklava but I'm afraid what my waistline will look at once I try more of their food.

Great gyros. Really like the original

    (4)
  • Roy O.

The original gyro is excellent. It's very tasty and filling and lunch easily kept me going until a late dinner. The pork is tender and there's plenty of it. Would prefer full fat yogurt for an even better taste. They include the sales tax in the price of the gyro so no pesky loose change for the walk back to the office.

    (4)
  • Joe J.

    Outstanding original gyro for $8.

    (5)
  • Athena D.

I've never eaten a gyro that tasted so much like one you'll get in Greece. The original gyro is the real deal! Absolutely delicious. The spanakopita was also amazing. I was full from the gyro so I refrigerated it and then microwaved it when I was ready, later. The filo dough was STILL CRISPY. How do they do that? seriously? Amazing.

ZO GOOD! I love this place, I seriously have eaten here breakfast, lunch and dinner! Although they are open 11am -3pm. It's a great little spot to grab and go. In nice weather they have seating outside in courtyard type area. I've been getting their spanikopita since they were Mediterraneo attached to the well- still hole in the ground - Filenes. Perfect combination of feta, spinach and awesomely crisp Phillo (sp?) dough. I get these for breakfast as soon as they open at 11 am so fresh and HOT out of the oven! For lunch they have amazing gyros for $7 its filling and packed with fresh ingredients, on a warm flatbread and tzatziki sauce, daily soup specials and salads. Its a great value spot Follow them on twitter for their daily soups @ZOboston

This is a great local restaurant, a perfect place for a quick lunch (and that is all they serve). I am addicted to the spinach pie, but also really enjoy the wide varieties of soups as well as the gyros. Authentic Greek. Add to that, the staff is wonderfully friendly and cheerful. And finally, very reasonable prices. You cannot go wrong with the great little restaurant. Unless you arrive at 1:00 on the flood tide! Come a little earlier or a little later.

    (5)
  • Martin D.

Very quick with a good selection of vegetarian options. I recommend spanakopita. Unfortunately, the soups are relatively expensive ($5 for 12 oz, $6 for 16 oz).

  • Lauren W.

I finally got to try Zo one day that I was working from home! My chicken gyro was perfect! Delicious chicken with a delicious tzatziki sauce in a warm flatbread! Yes! The only downside is that, while I live in the area, my office is in Cambridge so I rarely get to enjoy their delicious gyros! Maybe someday they'll be open for dinner or on a weekend day!

    (5)
  • John K.

The soup is a really good deal & the sandwiches are also excellent. It's a bummer that they raised their prices ($8 for a sandwich now), but all the food here is definitely high quality.

  • Aboud Y.

Go to Zo yo...go to Zo! Awesome gyros..among the best in Boston (its a tough choice between Zo and Greek Corner). The Original (pork loin) is sooo good. Why oh why does it have to close at 3pm? And what about delivery? They'd make a killing! Opa!

    (4)
  • Beach B.

Amazing gyros!!! The fresh cilantro & tomatoes add to great flavor. These gyros are pretty authentic, nothing like your local pizza joint gyros, chicken is my favorite flavor. Sometimes during the weekend I'll start craving 1, and wishing I was at work. how crazy is that???

    (5)
  • Liz B.

Love!!! My favorite lunch place, plus service here is amazing and fast! Favorites: Great Chicken Gyros, I love the tzatziki sauce on it. Bread is nice and fluffy. Greek salad with Chicken. It's fresh! Soups: Avgolemono, Artichoke Asparagus, Fasolada.

    (5)
  • Mrs. G.

I like Zo a lot. I got the greek salad with chicken. Everything was really fresh and the service line moves quickly. This may sound silly but my favorite part of the dish was the warm and fresh pita bread. It was the best pita ever!

    (4)
  • Julie R.

The best $7 you will spend on lunch in the area! Talking about the Gyros..They put some sandwiches to shame. WOW, this thing was: Fresh..Juicy..Meaty..Yummyyyy This little no frills place packs the punch. I went in there after being cooped up inside with a cold and was craving something good. Even though my appetite was lacking, I put that whole thing down and felt great after! Zooooo Gooood!!!!!

I was walking home from MGH the other day, feeling kind of sad after the clinical day from hell. To make matters worse, I was hungry and had zero dollars on my person. As I lamented the death of my swipey meal card circa 2006 (R.I.P.) and trudged up Cambridge Street... youtube.com/watch?v=RcDC… ...I stuck my hands in my scrubpant pockets and came up with a crumpled mass of thoroughly-laundered dollar bills. $7! What can one buy with $7 in the Government Center area? Probably a bunch of crap. What can one buy with $7 that will turn a LK frown upside-down? A ZO GYRO! Deliciously magical rotisserized pork in a warm flatbread with tomato, onion and Tzatziki sauce. I haven't had a gyro this good since leaving the street-meat hea-ben that is Manhattan. Unless **awkward laughter/ shoulder shrug/ hands jammed in pockets/ staring at floor** we're counting the last 47 times I stopped in??

    (5)
  • Dave V.

Best Greek salad in the city! The line out the door at lunchtime proves it! The grilled pitas that accompany the salad are ridiculously good. The service is fast and everything I've ever tried from there has been fantastic. They just opened a 2nd location next to Clarke's.

    (5)
  • Kevin C.

This place serves a great gyro, though a little on the expensive side. I wouldn't go anywhere else in the area for my gyro needs. I wish they served fries, but alas, they lack a spud option on their menu. Their baklava is great too - super sweet though so if you're not into eating what tastes like candy in pastry form, I'd skip it. It's in kind of a weird place tucked into Central Plaza, but definitely worth hitting up, especially if you're a 9-5 lifer in the area.

    (3)
  • Kena K.

I agree with everyone here. The gyros are simply ahhhmaaaaazing and the portions are perfect - you feel full but not one bite away from collapsing from food coma. Everyone talks about thr gyros, but their salads are deeeeeeeelish as well (this is coming from a carnivore). The med. salad with chicken is worth every penny and the pita that comes with it, is just icing on the cake. P.S. Dont be discouraged by the long lines bc they move fairly quickly :)

    (5)
  • Cecilia L.

Yeah, the gyros are amazing, but what I really want to talk about is the veggie pita. Roasted peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, feta, balsamic... boring, right? Something you could make at home? Think again. Somehow this sandwich is far more than the sum of its ingredients, its deliciousness reaching an apex you could never achieve in your humble kitchen. I normally hate pita bread, but actually crave Zo's warm, soft pillows of joy. The pork gyro is a greasy gutbuster, so when you're feeling like something lighter, just say veggie pita.

    (5)
  • Alex S.

Stopped here for a quick gyros after getting a suit tailored. The gyros is filling, the ingredients taste fresh, and the meal was reasonably priced. I generally prefer my gyros with thicker slices (they use thin shavings) and with beef/lamb (they use pork), but those are not big problems. What is a big problem is that the tzatziki is bland. Great tzatziki tastes of cucumber, garlic, dill, and a tiny bit of pepper, has a mouthfeel akin to really good greek yogurt, and has a nice acidic zip on the end. Zo's tzatziki has none of these elements - it just tastes like yogurt. The gyros is fine, but the tzatzki is the element that makes a good gyros great and Zo just doesn't have it.

I went to this place for lunch after hearing about it on facebook. They claimed to have the "authentic gyro" so I figured I would be the judge of that. Place was smaller than I had thought from their website, but there was enough space to sit down and eat if you wanted to. I liked how the tax was included in the price, so everything was nice and even; no awkward change. Onto the food. I got the pork gyro, which was in fact, very close to what you would find in Greece. American restaurants and even Greek Festivals tend to get the beef/lamb cone, but I believe the owner said he made his own with pork. There was a good amount of meat, tzatziki, tomato, and onion in my sandwich and I really found it delicious. There was one thing I was sort of disappointed in and that was the fact that there were no french fries! In Greece, french fries almost always go into gyros. The owner said he had a frialator but no one would order the fries. I guess I can say he tried. Hopefully they will expand the hours of operation because it's a lunch only place right now. I also read on his site about more locations soon. I can't wait.

  • Michael Z.

ZO Boston, let me tell you. Probably the best GYRO you will ever have in America. You can compare it to legitimate Gyros that are made in GREECE! The three things that are so great about this place are the tasty meat (Pork, Chicken), the freshest ingredients (raw onions, parsely, tomatoes, homemade tzatziki sauce), and the amazing staff that tops it all off. I have eaten exuberant amounts of gyros from ZO (sometimes two per visit or twice a day for about a year), which is something that I am extremely proud of. The combination of all of these ingredients makes this a great meal in any situation. There are a few different specialties to this place that you learn of after becoming a regular and talking to the staff. I'd tell you guys what they were, but you should probably experiment for yourself :P 5 STARS GOURMET FAST CUISINE $7 A GYRO WORTH EVERY PENNY! GO TO ZO, ZO ZO GOOD!

    (5)
  • Emma O.

Their soup and salads are just top notch. And their Naan bread is bomb. I highly recommend the Veggie Wrap, you wont regret it (I would probably skip the tomato basil gyro, compared to all their other awesome gyros, it just doesn't stack up). You can have your lunch and be sitting on the patio in less than 10 minutes. Best $8 downtown! (My one negative is I wish they were open on weekends)

At the urging of my co-worker, we braved horizontal rain to go to Zo's which he had been raving about. I never knew it existed, tucked in, off the main street, opposite the Adams courhouse and whatever they are calling the 'newer' courthouse next door. (It looks like the "Daily Planet" building anyway.) It was well worth the effort. Had the original gyro, which features pork, not beef. Despite the fact that I lived in Lowell for 15 years, this came as a pleasant surprise. Lamb, of course, but pork??? Who knew?? The place belies its food cart origins with the limited menu. But why ruin a good thing? I try to brown bag it as much as possible for lunch, but the memory of that gyro, as well as the yet-untasted other Greek food on the menu wll undoubtedly lure me back again and again.

  • Calvin F.

Everyone seems to love this place, but I don't really get it. It's pretty pricey for a grab-and-go lunch, the portions are small, and the gyro is... alright. The tzatziki was excellent! But... that was about it.

    (2)
  • Elaine C.

Long line during lunch hours, but they do have good food. Every wrap is about $7.50-$9.50

yum, yum, yum... great original gyro- homemade tziki sauce with fresh cucumber, added lettuce and roasted pepper. Very, very good meat- the dolmathes (stuffed grape leaves) were fabulous. We went to the one by Faniel Hall and it was clean, quick and very good.

  • B D.

This place is so amazing!!! They are only open 11-3 M-F and if you come around 12:30 you are going to wait but trust me IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!!!

    (5)
  • Chris R.

Great food, great price, and very fast! I'm definitely a fan after trying the Original and Chicken Gyros. My only critique is that they have somewhat of a limited menu, but if you're going there for what they have you'll love it. I ordered 9 gyros and salads at 12:00 pm on a Tuesday and waited less than 5 minutes.

    (4)
  • Mark T.

Good food. Priced a little high. I usually get the original or chicken gyro.

    (4)
  • Juliana N.

I really should venture out a little past downtown more often. This gyro is awesome! Actually... this is my 1st gyro. =x I know!!! It's so good I think i could totally eat another one but then my stomach would probably POP!! The creamy yogurt sauce over the delicious pork topped with tomatoes and onions. AHHH can lunch get any better? I want to try the other gyros!!!

    (4)
  • Stephanie S.

I literally just finished eating my first Zo gyro, and it was so good I had to inform the masses. The chicken gyro is delish...The chicken is pretty salty, but that is offset by the tomatoes and creamy cucumber yogurt. The flavor is undeniable. Here's my tip...I was STARVING so I also got chips with my gyro. This was unnecessary. The gyro was more than big enough to satisfy my hunger pains and I didn't even touch the chips.

  • Matthew P.

It's too bad I don't work close to ZO because it's a relatively cheap and very good place to stop by for a quick lunch. I've been here several times and they are very consistent. The gyros are what they specialize in. They don't have any lamb so it's all made with chicken. They load up those pita breads with all the normal fixins you'd expect at a Greek gyro place. I've had some of the soups as well and they are pretty good. One word of warning. If you sit inside your clothes will smell. I personally hate having my clothes smell of food when I sit back in my stuffy cube. If you do too, it's best to eat outside or take it to go!

    (4)
  • Dick N.

Their gyro is arguably the best sandwich in Boston. Awesome!

  • Franny G.

Best gyro I have ever had! I have previously tried the spinach pie & baklava also superb. The service is fast and friendly. The place is nice and clean too!

Tasty chicken gyro. Unfortunately I didn't learn that you could order the gyros spicy until I sat down and overheard another customer do it. Next time it will be one spicy original for me

The original gyro is really good but holy cow $8 bucks is crazy....

  • Raymond W.

I am a gyro junkie and this was the best gyro I've had in boston and possibly ever. The meat was so juicy and the portion was generous. The warm soft pita held everything well until the end and the crispness of the veggie toppings was a nice cut into the fatness of the meat. Be prepared to wait in line during the workweek lunch as it's a popular spot. The line moves efficiently as the menu is pretty limited. But of what they have, they do well.

    (5)
  • Aez A.

Their soups are great, the speed and prices are good, the quality of the meat however can be a little hit or miss. It's sometimes too dry, sometimes unbelievably oily, and hardly ever good in a bite w/o some sauce and veggies- that's not a good sign.

    (3)
  • Nancy Z.

"Do you have fries?" Strike number one. "Do you have lamb?" Strike number two. I wasn't even gonna try strike number three. What do I know about Greek food authenticity? Close to nothing. Somewhat ashamed and discouraged, I managed to build some self esteem in approximately 4 seconds and ordered a signature gyro. Lean pork, extra tzatziki sauce (SP!!), onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and a softttt pita bread... my breath reeks of garlic as I talk to my coworkers for the rest of the day. Is the humiliation worth it? Damn right it is. Friendly staff. Good food. Four stars.

One of the Best lunches in Boston! A line will await you at lunch time, but it goes fast. I'm not really a "Gyro Fan", but thought I would take the trip here using the Hubway bike share, something else I highly recommend. My first trip was a few weeks ago, yesterday was my third trip and I invited a friend to bike over with me. As a non-gyro fan, perhaps I do not have anything recent to compare, but I find the Original - a Pork Gyro - to be excellent. It has the type of flavor that lingers in your mind, the cucumber sauce, the tender slow cooked pork and the light bread. My friend liked it so much he had said he would have gotten another if he didn't have to get back into line. I have only tried their Dolmas as well and their lemon chicken soup. The Lemon Chicken soup is spot on traditional soup. Good lemon flavor, just enough chicken and not too salty. This soup is one of my favorites in other Greek restaurants, and it was as good as any I have ever had. This will be a good Winter standby once the temps drop. The Dolmas are a good deal, again, traditional with the expected taste, texture and sauce. I don't remember if it is 6 or 8 in a package, but at $4 a box, a cup of soup and Dolmas would be a good meal, though some with the lighter appetite will opt for one or the other. I noted they are adding another location on state Street. My hope is they are able to maintain their quality at the new location, which will be more convenient for me. Zo's is worth the trip if you are elsewhere in town looking for a good, fast lunch. I have recommended it and have seen the same reaction I had to their food. There is a reason they always have a line at lunch time!

I got the original gyro- pork. It was dried and Just meat, tomatoes, cream, and cilantro. There was Nothing special. I can't see what the buzz was all about.

    (1)
  • Ellen T.

I tried the pork gyro and I love it! The flat bread is soooo good. It's not some plain old pita bread, it's a thick wrap...so delish. The pork was flavorful and the yogurt sauce and tomatoes were the perfect balance. It can get a bit messy at the end so extra napkins please!

    (4)
  • Zach B.

In and out wicked fast with a delicious, and affordable, gyro in your hand. I thought that one wouldn't fill me up, but i was clearly mistaken. Best gyro i've had/am planning to have in this city.

The Original! Seriously, its like the greatest thing Ive ever tasted. Definitly best gyro in Boston. Service is fast and the staff is always smiling! No complaints about this place.

Zo is my favorite go to lunch place. Their lentil soup is sooo amazing! Super hearty and filling and just perfect. It comes with this delish pita you can dip in it. I also love their spinach pie. My dream lunch is a spinach pie & lentil soup.. nom. Every time someone visits me at the office I tell them to meet me here for lunch and they love it. This place rocks

Great gyros, tangy, tart tzatziki sauce, and fresh, wholesome ingredients. I wish more places could turn out gyros like this as fast as Zo does. Great spot for lunch.

Where I work, there are 2 locations where I am smack dab in the middle of, one on State Street and the one in the Government Center Plaza. I've gone to both and both are equally as good, but I find myself coming to the one at the Plaza more, even though it's much smaller and usually has a line out the door. I tend to be drawn more to the busier one, simply because I think food is fresher at busier places, but yeah that's just me. I used to come here very often for lunch, especially when it's nice out, so people can sit outside and eat. I've ordered the original gyro (lamb or beef from the rotating spit) and the chicken, both are on warm thick pita bread, topped off with chopped onions, cilantro, tomatoes, and a abundance of dill tzatziki sauce (yogurt sauce). I have to tell you these gyros are flavorful and they are not shy at all with the meat! One could fill an average person up, but I'm the type that likes to have food coma after lunch when going back to work, so I order the spinach pie as well. I'm in love with the spinach pie here (best I'd ever had). The crust is flaky and crispy and inside warm feta and spinach, which is great with there soup (when I want a lighter lunch). Speaking of soup, they have daily special soups there, all of which come with a side of pita. I usually get the tomato or the cream of broccoli. This place is solid and definitely a great lunch spot for us who work around the area. Gyros are good (had better, but this is definitely up there), soups are good, and lines move fast. Waiting for it to be nicer out to come here and eat outside.

Tried the Original Gyro and... it's amazing! Everything is so fresh! The onions, the tomatoes, the cilantro and that tzatziki sauce (which I've never heard of until today). All you Yelpers are right, this place is the bees knees. The gyros, full of meat and fresh veggies. The pork, tasty although it's a little on the salty side. The portions, deceivingly small but oh so filling. I'm completely stuffed but I can't seem stop myself from picking at the last tasty remains. The place is very efficient. I was twelfth in line (no exaggeration), and the line moved at a fast pace. The menu is small, but that's how they keep the wait-time down to a minimum. If it wasn't so cold, the line would have been out the door. Instead the line was crammed awkwardly inside with barely any place to stand--except right in front of the door. Next time I'll get their earlier than 12:30--this place gets busy--and maybe try the grape leaves.

Yes, kids, the legends are all true--the gyros of Zo are truly worthy of Zeus, himself. When I decided to take NYE day off last week, I convinced Katie B. and John H. to accompany me on a snowy odyssey to Zo. We each ordered an original gyro (no tomatoes for me, plz). After one bite it was as if we had entered the fields of Elysium; Heaven in a pita, my friends! Katie B. and I also shared a cup of creamy tomato soup which was delightful, but proved to be no match for the gyro and was sadly left unfinished. Zo is a true hidden gem in downtown Boston. Tucked away behind CVS they seem to cater primarily to busy bureaucrats and other miscellaneous suits on their lunch breaks. Not very much seating, so if the weather's nice, take it outside. I plan on returning soon with Irene F., so she can give her Greek girl stamp of approval.

They must put magic in the gyro because it a revelation. I can't stop coming back. The people are really nice. Remember your orders and Will hook you up w a free side on the occasion. Baclava is echh

Though I think the food was decent, I will have to say that this is probably one of my biggest recent-letdowns. I want so badly to find the perfect gyro, but it just doesn't seem to happen around here. The good: The warm, fluffy, chewy pita the sandwiches are served on. This stuff is like crack for us carb-lovers. I'm pretty sure, given the opportunity, I'd eat an entire stack of these rounds, fresh out of the oven. It's gross but true. The bad: open very limited hours, only during the workday for lunch. The disappointing: The sandwich fillings were the disappointment. The mozzarella tomato sandwich definitely *did* have mozzarella and tomato in it, but they certainly weren't the stars. They felt (and tasted) like an afterthought. The sandwich was mainly filled with mixed greens and basil, tossed in balsamic and oil. I love me some greens, but let's just say I now know why the guy behind the counter was grinning ear-to-ear, happy as a clam - he had successfully sold me a $7 lettuce sandwich. The gyro was less disappointing. The meat was dry but seasoned well. As it's only open during business lunch hours, and it's not close to my office, I doubt I'll make the trek out during my workday to get a gyro, and my quest for the perfect gyro continues.

This place is GREAT! Beacon Hill is seriously lacking in the food options, and this place was an AWESOME edition! I am a huge soup fan, insofar that I cant eat crappy soup - thus, Zo is one of my favorite go-to spots. Their lentil soup is INCREDIBLE. I got the aspargus artichoke soup today - which is vegan and full of all kinds of goodness - but, not as filling as the lentil (which makes sense and isnt the soups fault). I'm glad I tried it. And, a large soup plus a mini grilled cheese on rye for $6.75? YES PLEASE! the chicken gyro is incredible, and I'm not a big meat eater. ITs pulled rotissiere, so its been slow cooked and that makes it delicious. The cucumber yogurt sauce is delicious. I have also had the tomato basil pita, and the veggie pita, both are great. I caution you to let either of them sit for too long before eating, they tend to get soggy if you do. Overall, this place is the bomb.

For those who remember Ararat House of Barbecue in Watertown (Seta & Avedis Najarian, owners), you know that you'll never, ever, ever have any sort of Middle Eastern or Greek sandwich approaching that gold standard. That being said, Zo is a wonderful go-to place when you want good gyros. I've had 3 things here: Original Gyros, Chicken Gyros, and Avgolemono Soup. I'd recommend all of them -- very, very tasty -- especially the Original! There's a reason why the lunch line is often out the door here. I haven't been to the Faneuil Hall location yet, so I can't speak for that place, but I'm eager to try it.

This is easily the best Gyro I have ever eaten. The lamb was chopped instead of the thick slices I'm used to in gyros, which is a nice change. The lamb was well seasoned and not overcooked. The tomatoes and onions tasted fresh cut. The yogurt sauce was really good and tasted fresh. I tried to eat this thing while walking and that was a mistake because the pita is jammed with ingredients.

Delicious! Walked here with some coworkers to grab some lunch for takeout. I ordered the original gyro. Ingredients were fresh and the sauce was tasty. I greedily devoured within a number of minutes. Menu offers enough variety to please the palette though not too many options as you do need to know what you want when you're up to order. Coworkers said the spinach pie and tuna wrap are delish too. Great to see outdoor seating though hope they make indoor seating more inviting for the winter months.Service was friendly and they take credit cards - sweet. I will be back!

This is my new favorite lunch place. I first came in for avgolemono and spanakopita the first time. I loved their avgolemono, which is lemon chicken soup. There was a good amount of chicken, plenty of egg, and lots of lemon flavor. A little salty but still perfect. The spanakopita is really good too. The make it in rectangles which makes filling fill the whole thing instead of triangles which leaves you with a few bites of just phylo. The rice pudding is really thick and really creamy. The rice is cooked perfectly and hovers with its buds in a rich custard. Must get. Hand down my favorite thing there is a chicken gyro with extra tzatziki. For less then $7 I get a filling lunch that is AMAZING!!!!! The whole thing is started with the pita.... a fluffy pita that his been lightly toasted on the grill. Then they put a massive amount of chopped white meat chicken. The chicken is fresh and flavorful. I have seen them tending to it on the vertical cooker. They were basting it with some drippings/butter/tears from God which keeps every bit moist, evenly cooked, and have I mentioned... flavorful. And when you think the chicken gyro can't get better (maybe just a pita and chicken is good) its topped off with tzatziki. I ask for a gyro with extra tzatziki, not because they skimp on it but because it is so damn good!!! All of that is then topped off with finely shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and diced red onion. Be sure to get some napkins before you start to enjoy your gyro... it's so full you are going to make a mess.

Finally, Greek food in the area and it's GOOD. Their original (pork) gyro is to die for... so fresh and delicious, made to order and with the quickness. The lemon chicken rice soup is also amazing. Their menu is small, but I think that's because they know what they're good at.

I came back to Zo for lunch today and I just had to give them the full 5 stars. I got the original gyro (lean pork) and it was just as amazing as the chicken. Awesome.

This is a good place to get lunch if you work in the area or are looking for takeout. There isn't a lot of space inside the restaurant though. I came here for the first time today around 1pm. The line was about 6 people deep and moves fast - they for your order when you're 4th-5th in line and have it ready for you when you get to the cash register. My original gyro (has pork, in contrast to the chicken gyro) was delicious and had a ton of meat in it. Pretty satisfying.

  • Howe L.

This place was recommended to me by a fellow yelper. It's a little out of my way, but after trekking here, based on food alone, the gyros here easily deserve 5 stars. The meat is full of flavor, perfectly complements the yogurt dressing, and the bread is soft (little oily) and tasty. I wish the seating and atmosphere was more up-kept, but I will def be returninggg!

  • Debra B.

Went there last week with friends - line moved really fast and we all agreed, incredible food for a fair price. What more could you want for a take out? Short of complimentary wine (like THAT would ever happen) I can't see how they could improve!

  • Rebecca R.

The chicken gyros here are fantastic. I had one for the first time about 2 months ago and since then I have been back on a regular basis, at least once a week for one of them. I tried the avegolemono too, but it wasn't as yummy as the gyro-it wasn't quite lemony enough for me. I still am giving it five stars though for the absolutely delicious chicken gyro. For those who have never gone, it's a small place-no bathrooms and you go to the counter and order where the guys are behind the counter to the right when you come in and then you pay the person behind the cash register and they give you your food.

The best gyro I've ever had. Period. And I've had a LOT of gyros around the world. I found this place thanks to Yelp!, and my only complaint is that it's not open longer hours!! If it were open on weekends or for dinner, this would be one of my regular spots. If you're lucky enough to be nearby while it's open, don't hesitate to check it out

I have to say, I pretty much go here at least 3 times a week for lunch! It is that good and really affordable for being located in Boston! My Winter must have is the Avgolemono soup! Best I have ever had, and I live in a city where there is a Greek eatery on every corner, none of them compare to Zo's! Another go-to lunch fave is the garden salad with their amazing chicken added and low fat zinfindel dressing! I've heard the greek dressing is pretty amazing too!!

this small, clean, modern, stainless steel-clad greek establishment is quite a find at the top of center plaza around the corner o'er yonder in the heart of city hall. apparently, it's a find for everyone else as the little place is bustling at lunchtime but not to worry, their service is speedy behind the counter and at the register in close proximity. their gyros are small but loaded so much with delicious flavorful meat fillings with tomatoes and loads of finely cilantro that they are quite messy to eat and very satisfying. I swear there is crack sprinkled on the gyro. there is an art form to eating these little tasty pieces as the foil holds them together. prices are very reasonable, and even include the meal tax so you don't need to do any mental arithmetic of whether you have enough cash on you while your blood sugar is low. i'll be back for the spanikopita...but only if i can tear myself away from the gyros.

My best friend and I used to frequent the little walk up place in the Filene's building. We never ate there, but we would walk by and check out the really cute guys that worked there. Don't judge, if they didn't want us to look, they wouldn't have put the cute guys in a window. Apparently, Zo evolved from that place. Had I known such great deliciousness was contained in that tiny little place, I would have done a hell of a lot more than window shop. Now I am a gyro fanatic and I have had them in so many different forms with so many variations. These, quite simply, are some of the best. I prefer the pork gyro. Yes, you read that correctly, I said pork. They make their version with pork, not the typical pressed beef and lamb versions you get at most places. The pork itself is so moist and flavorful and they cook it by stacking pieces of it on a skewer and then it is cooked rotisserie style. They then pile it on to a great warm flat bread with onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki. I am not the biggest fan of their tzatziki as compared to other places, since I actually like the thicker versions at other places. Zo's version tends to be runny most times I am there. They have a very small menu which actually works for this place. Stick to what you know and do it well seems to be the way they operate. I recommend a trip here if you are in the area, I just wish they were open later.

My coworkers used to get gyros from this place before they opened up in the Plaza, so they were ecstatic when it relocated even closer to work. I got the original on my first time, and it's so perfect that I can't bring myself to order anything else. The meat is salty and delicious, the tzatziki is a perfect compliment, the bread is soft and warm, and the whole thing looks like a work of art. I used to live next to an Armenian family that shares my affection...a true testament of its quality. In addition to the original gyro, I've had the baklava a couple times. It's very good (nice and flakey) and a great way to wrap up a gyro meal. I also tried a chicken gyro once, and it was decent...tough to justify though when the original simply tastes better. The other item I've tried was a vegetarian gyro of some sort due to a mixed up order. I'm a polar opposite of vegetarian, but I have to admit it was very good and filled me up for the long work afternoon. All in all, if you're downtown and want to try something unique and delicious, you'd be making a big mistake not to give this place a try. -Mark Z

Great place for Gyro. Tried the original for the first time today. Everything in this gyro is perfect, the meat, the veggie, the yoghurt sauce and the fluffy pita. Awesome! Can't wait to come back when it gets colder to try the soups.

Not much more to add to all the reviews here. The highlights: Fast Service Delicious gyros ($7) (They can get messy. Have napkins ready!) Filling and cheap Don't be put off by the seemingly long line. They go through customers pretty quickly. I figure that the average service time was less than 1/2 a minute so you won't be waiting long.

I'm in love with Zo. I've had gyros in Greece and did not come close to finding anything that was remotely as good until I went to Zo. Honestly, their gyro is the real deal. I prefer the original, but the chicken is just as good - flavorful, fresh, filling and delicious! I would love to try other things on the menu but it's hard to turn down the gyro. Beyond the food, service is quick, reasonably priced and the staff is incredibly nice. They were out of original gyros when I went once and the woman offered to add feta and any vegetables I wanted to the chicken one free of charge! I'll admit I struggled to find this place the first time I went looking for it, but I guess that's what makes it a bit of hidden gem. It gets busy around lunch hour, but the line (even when it's out the door!) moves quickly. Go to Zo. You won't regret it.

I am a very happy camper today. I decided to go to Zo for lunch for the first time since hearing about this place from other Yelpers! It was a fantastic lunch. I admit to eating more than I should have but I had trouble deciding what to get so I got two things! I got the roasted veggie pita and the spanakopita (spinach pie). Both were out of this world. The roasted vegetable pita was perfect in every way. It consisted of roasted peppers and tomato with just enough thinly sliced red onion and crumbled feta laid atop of mesclun greens. It was dressed perfectly in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. All of this was wrapped in a warm pita . The cook had a wonderfully restrained hand with the ingredients which allowed me to really taste each one. You could easily have been overwhelmed with the onion, salty feta cheese or vinegar. A careful hand in the kitchen is always a blessing and Zo scores big with me on that account. Every bite was a perfect symphony. I moved on to the spinach pie which was fresh and delicious. The filo was flaky as it should be, having been perfectly baked. The melding of the spinach and feta was amazing. The portions are a good size. No dinner needed tonight! Thank you Yelpers for letting me know about this place. Thank you Zo for giving me another option for my weekday lunches. P.S. Their outdoor tables are set up so you can eat outside if you'd like. I got there around 1 PM and there was only one woman ahead of me. I was in and out of there, food in hand, in less than 5 minutes.

Zo has become a regular stop on my weekday lunch-place rotation. The menu is very simple, but the gyros are beyond delicious. They claim their original (pork) gyro is 100% lean; I'm not sure if that's humanly possible, but it tastes amazing! The dolmas (grape leaves stuffed with rice and herbs) are also good - not too oily, and with plenty of flavor. The only downside is that, in my opinion, the gyros are a bit on the expensive side (approaching $7).

  • Eric F.

So I have been back to Zo a few times to more positive results. Though one or two of my gyro's have been a bit greasy, the Avgolemono (lemon chicken rice soup) was quite good and the Spanakopita was fantastic, layered crispy filo dough with the perfect combination of spinach and cheese. IMO, it's the best thing on the menu.

Oh Zo's where do I start. Your original gyro is a masterpiece. With a Spinach Pie kicker...well that is bliss. On any Friday I walk from North Station to Government Center. Get my "Original with Pie" and sit and relish the meal. Fast, cheap and good. All anyone can ask.

If ever there was a Greek meal fit for the mighty Zeus himself, THE 'Original Gyro' at Zo would be it. I ordered this Gyro and was blown away. Literally, I feel like I moved a few inches out of my seat in satisfaction. The staff was super friendly and thankful for my business which made me feel at home in this cozy little establishment. The girl at the counter explained that in Greece, the traditional "gyro" is made with pork. in Greece they use the entire pig, and at times can be fatty, but at Zo, as the friendly lady explained, they only use the shoulder / and other leanest parts of the pig. The tzatziki sauce is pretty good. Overall the taste was so amazing I had to fight the urge to stand up on my chair and scream "OPA!, OPA!, OPAAAA!!" I even resisted breaking my plate. Perhaps I got these urges because I've been hanging around my Greek best-friends and I'm always looking for an excuse to break a plate or yell "OPA", or maybe because the Gyro was seriously as good as it gets. I choose to believe it's the latter. If you haven't been to Zo, stop reading this and go now. Really, stop and go! Go on. Tssht. Tsssst! Did I not just tell you to stop reading this? Stop reading and go now :) You'll be happy you did. Closes at 3pm and their original gyro is so good they can sell out closer to 3, so get their earlier to make sure you can get your Zo on.

So after a few weeks of coming here now, I can safely say I won't be ordering gyros from anywhere else but here! On a recent weekday, I brought a group of my work buddies here and they were all impressed with what they ordered. I've had the spanakopita and it's very good, super flaky. Looking forward to trying their lemon chicken soup which I hear is delicious.

The original gyro at Zo is worth going out of your way for! It is packed with fresh ingredients of fresh slices of pork (or chicken) and cold diced vegetables that come together in a delicious warm puffed pita wrap. All I can say is go try it for yourself. Delicious!

One of the best gyros sandwiches in town, with the rare-in-the-US but very authentic option of pork gyros. There are many reasons to silently mourn the closing of Filene's in Downtown Crossing, but I know I vociferously wailed at the accompanying evictions of several worthy take-out restaurants that operated at the famed department store's sidewalk level. Chilean sandwich maker Chacarero found a comfy new home nearby, but I didn't know what happened to Mediterraneo, a Greek take-out restaurant with particularly fine gyros sandwiches. I recently learned its fate: it became Zo, a tiny counter-service place with a few tables indoors and out at the upper level of Center Plaza, the long curved building across from Government Center. I'm also happy to report that its gyros sandwiches ($6.75) are as terrific as ever. These are proper gyros: chunks of marinated meat stacked onto a vertical rotisserie -- not a pre-fab cone of ground meat -- grilled and sliced off, served on pita bread with chopped tomatoes, diced red onions, and the cucumber/yogurt sauce known as tsatsiki. Zo does two versions: chicken breast, and more noteworthy, pork loin, which, while popular in Greece, is far less common in the US. These are just outstanding sandwiches: the pita is fresh, chewy, and properly griddled; the sliced meats beautifully seasoned, edged with crispness, and generously laid on; the tsatsiki carrying a detectable hint of garlic. Other pita sandwich options are surprisingly tasty, too, like a chunky tuna salad ($6.75) dressed with yogurt; a veggie ($6.75) that is essentially a Greek salad with a balsamic dressing, roasted red peppers, and feta; and a mozzarella-tomato-basil ($6.75), which is effectively a Caprese salad bulked out with field greens. Fresh-tasting soups ($3.75/small; $4.50/large) include avgolemono, the classic creamy chicken soup with lemon and rice (only subtly lemony here) and a good, thin vegetarian lentil. Spanakopita ($3.75), the square turnover of spinach and chunks of mild feta, features a very light and ungreasy phyllo crust. Dolmadakia ($3.75/eight) are small grape leaves stuffed with a mixture of rice, lemon, olive oil, and mint -- tasty if you enjoy the uniquely sour/bitter flavor of their wrappers. A variety of decent-size salads ($5.75-$6.75) are packaged to go. Dessert options include a hefty slice of baklava ($2.75), lighter and less syrupy than many Greek versions. In sum, it's gratifying to find this old friend with its new name and location, and not just for the sheer novelty of real pork gyros. Zo serves some of the best gyros sandwiches in the city.

This place is hard to find, but you'll be so glad you made the effort once you get there. Stick with what they do best - the gyro. Perfectly seasoned lamb, a creamy tzatziki sauce, and superb veggies round out the garlic pita bread. The portion is perfect for a quick lunch and leaves you satisfied for the afternoon. While its in a hidden location, this place is not a well-kept secret. That being said, don't be scared away by the line that stretches out the door - it moves quickly and you'll be out within ten minutes. What's more, an even $7 for a filling lunch isn't a bad deal in Boston.

I work in the government center area and absolutely think Zo has the best soups and salads around. I love that they use high quality fresh mixed greens in their salads and their soups are amazing. They always have delicious vegetarian and usually vegan soup options. The staff is so nice- sometimes I get a tad embarrassed because I go there so much! Twice I had my wallet, but no debit card and they let me pay at my next visit. Don't be afraid of the line- it moves quickly. I LOVE Zo!

Great Gyro- that about sums it up. This place is always packed during lunch hours and often runs out of supplies near closing. Either way, if you can slide through within the time frame, get down on a spectacular Gyro that definitely lives up to the hype.

This is high quality food at a reasonable price. The Original Gyro is among the best I've ever tasted. I have never seen a gyro with pork instead of lamb, but they managed to convince me that it's the way to go. All of the ingredients are fresh and tasty. The grape leaves are also phenomenal. Hard to find, but worth the trip.

I don't know how I've gone to school around the corner from this place for the past two years and only just found out about it. The gyros are amazing, I crave the tzatziki sauce. I've only had the original so I can't speak for the chicken but if its anything like the original I'm sure its phenomenal. I've ben about 4 or 5 times now and it's been consistently tasty! The people that work there are so friendly too and its very quick.

I'll be grateful throughout eternity to my buddy Chris for tipping me off about this place, because it led me to the greatest gyro this side of Corinth. The meat is full-flavored, the pita is toasty and tasty, and the combined creation is addictive. Though I'm not a tzatziki fan (to my misfortune, to read some of Yelpers' cucumber kudos), they had some plain yogurt for me. Quick line full of people I know, reasonable price and friendly service. I'm a committed regular.

Delicious & amazing. Went here with coworkers who were raving about it. I am a vegan so unfortunately I couldn't try their famous signature gyros, however I did have an incredibly delicious veggie pita wrap, and their lentil soup. Both were extremely flavorful and the products they used were super fresh. Best pita I've had, I think.

Amazing. my office couldnt be much closer to this place, but Zo doesnt jump out at you. I've walked by it every day for a few months & never really felt the urge to go in. Persuaded entirely by yelp reviews, I just went to grab a gyro for lunch. Chicken gyro - so good. messy but manageable. the right size. just all around excellent. and for $7. its a steal. line was long & a bit intimidating, but moved really quick. the people were friendly and effecient. I'm going to have to resist the urge to go daily.

This place has the best gyro I have ever had in my entire life. Even as the owner belittled me in his passive-aggressive manner for not closing the front door in what he considered a proper amount of time, I still couldn't be mad. As long as he keeps serving gyros like that, that guy can treat me however he wants. I would literally eat here every day if I could.

I love this place. Great sauce, spicy and juicy meat, quick (almost instant) service and most importantly, proper bread. The Pita surrounding these sandwiches is the kind of thing I missed most when I moved to Boston. It isn't the big giant thin dry pita at every schwarma and roll-up joint. It's smaller, pillowy, chewy perfection topped with morsels of pork and chicken that are lucky to end up in such a wonderful sandwhich. On a sunny day the patio chairs are a perfect escape from the office for a perfect gyro. Eat here.

Fresh and simple ingredients make for deliciousness in every bite! I've had the chicken gyro, original gyro, veggie gyro and soups. I can almost say that i've nearly tried it all, certainly getting close since their menu is small. as others have mentioned, the original and chicken gyros are made with quality meats. both meats are season perfectly. with the addition of some onions and tomatoes and, most importantly the dressing, the gyros were perfection. the gyro has everything it needs, with nothing extra to detract from the quality and flavors of the ingredients. just simply good stuff. the veggie pita is also quite perfect. it's actually pretty easy to mess up veggie sandwiches, as often i find that the veggies are over dressed. but in this case, the dressing was perfect and tasty, not too wet. the warmed pita really gave the gyro a great contrast (hot/cold). the soups were some of the best i've had. the lemon chicken rice is perfect. tartness from the lemons was balanced perfectly by the creamy rice. and the lentil was thick and filling. all and all, it's the best new addition to this area.

Fantastic gyros! To take such a simple and "always acceptable" food item and make it spectacular, this place really rates high with me.

Nice outdoor seating and some indoor counter top/stool seating. Quick service. Small menu but very reasonably priced and tasty. The tuna wrap comes with way too much tuna, I would definitely recommend the Original Gyro.

Watching the slow mystery meat turning on it's metal spike, glistening with goodness, Zo cast its spell. These gyros are truly awesome. I want to graft one onto my arm so it'll always be there in all of its oink yum goodness. The meat is cooked perfectly, the yogurt sauce is tasty, and it's quite affordable. Zo's does it right by keeping it simple but well executed, selling a few kinds of gyros and a few other assorted Greek eats. I've had to limit myself to only going here once a week. Even thinking about their gyros now gets me wet. I want...

I've been blessed to have this place ridiculously close to work. When I feel like some meat, the pork gyros are very tasty, and when I'm feeling veggie, both vegetarian sandwiches are delicious, wrapped in a thick warm pita and full of high quality greens. The spinach pies are very good and I've liked all the soups I've tried. The rice pudding was a bit to eggy for my taste, but that's OK, I don't need rice pudding on top of everything else that's so yummy. Also they are fast.

Great greek salad and awesome pita. If only they would combine the two and do a greek salad wrap.

I'm eating a spinach pie right now. SO DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The phyllo dough is so buttery and flakey. The spinach is perfect, and there is just the right amount of cheese. The flavor is so good. I also love the tomato mozzerella pita. Very good place!!!!

  • C M.

YUM. I honestly did not expect the original gyro to be so good. It was incredibly satisfying even though a part of me had been originally tempted to go for something lighter. But the pork is really spectacular, juicy and full of taste. Just beware, there is TONS of meat in that gyro--i coulda used more veggies and tzatziki (which btw is good but not great). The pita is delicious. I usually get the mozarella, tomato, and basil, which is pretty yummy and fresh tasting. I've also had the lentil soup...which was really good except they didn't cook it long enough and some of the lentils were hard-yuck. I am always in and out pretty quickly, but i'm an early or late lunch eater. I guess it's a little pricey, but i'll take a decent size (i'm well full and satisfied) , delicious $7 gyro from Zo over any of the mediocre crap at falafel king any day.

The chicken gyro was smaller than I expected. Ingredients were fresh but the flavor was nothing spectacular.

I went here for lunch based on the yelp reviews, and honestly, the original (pork) gyro is incredibly delicious! It was like I had never tasted a gyro before, it was that good. A friend had the avgolemono and I had a taste...eggy and lemony and tasty. Definitely worth the trek through Govt. Center.

    (4)
  • Cindy C.

Zo, you have my stamp of approval. Your gyros are fresh and delicious. I wish you stayed open past 3 pm, but I will just have to get in line with the crowds and make the trek to government center at lunch (which is better anyway b/c the chicken tends to get dry towards the end). All in all, a nice quick place to grab a satisfying sandwich.

This place is my go-to lunch spot at least once a week. Their Gyro is out of this world, the sauce, the bread, the meat. If you want the perfect gyro, look no further. Sit outside on a sunny day if you want. Great service too!

  • Barbara O.

DELICOUS! I absolutely love this place. I've had the original gyro, chicken gyro, the veggie pita, spanakopita, and the lentil soup. Everything has been amazing. I've encouraged many people to try it and everyone has raved about it. Zo is my go to place for a great lunch. With the original gyro, the pork is perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The yogurt sauce is thick and adds depth to the pork and its topped with tomatoes and red onions! Yum! Also, the pita is grilled so that it's warm and flavorful. I also can't say enough about the lentil soup. Perfectly seasoned and very filling. I get it when not feeling like a gyro or sandwich. Everything is awesome! It's only 10am and I know where I'm going for lunch!

Holy sh*t! I can't remember the last time I bit into something, blacked out, and then regained full consciousness 5 minutes later, feeling the last residual quivers of ecstasy flow out of my body. This sandwich (original) is insane and only $7! Just trust the reviews and go experience it for yourself. My coworker and I went, had our minds blow, went back the next day and repeated the experience feeling nothing had been lost, then stopped and asked each other, "OMG, if we don't stop right now it will be too late and we'll soon be making the 1/3 mile walk each way every single day, even when it's a raging blizzard or 0 degree day that turns your bones brittle..our skin will fall off!" At that point, like one who starts to realize they have an addiction problem, we cut ourselves off and went cold turkey. But when the withdrawal pangs become nearly unbearable, we became desperate and both went to a hypnotist who convinced us Zo closed down. That did the trick for a week or two, but unfortunately, whatever he did wore off today, so when I finish this review, I'm making a new appointment...after I hit up Zo every day next week of course.

An excellent hidden gem serving really phenomenal Gyros, Spanokopitas and other Greek foods. It has a small yet tasty menu with everything fresh and delicious. They are only open from 11-3 everyday, you can't see them from the street...it is on the inside of Center Plaza but they are great. Simply an excellent alternative to Steve's in the Greek food scene in Boston.

    (5)
  • Andrew Y.

One of the better gyros I've had in the Boston area where the meat is "real" and not pre-fabricated. The original is juicier than the chicken.

    (5)
  • Cara W.

Wow - the pita is unreal here. I have never had such amazing pita bread in my life. Greek salad and lentil soup are tasty. Prices are also fantastic. My one complaint is I wish they used a different lettuce and also had a non-creamy version of their Greek dressing. Highly highly recommend Zo for lunch!

    (4)
  • T T.

This place is fantastic! The original gyro is hearty and satisfying (although the pork was a little dry on its own). The corn chowder is excellent and has just the right amount of cream. I'm not a fan of grape leaves, but my dining partner said they were some of the best he's had. Lunchtime lines can get long, but the service is lightning fast.

    (4)
  • Jennifer M.

So delicious that today was my second time there this week! I've had both the original and chicken gyro. Meat is succulent and seasoned well. The tzatziki is creamy and doesn't overpower. Pita is soft and fresh. Do I need to go on? My new favorite lunch spot!

The food is very fresh and the Avgolemono soup is my all time favorite lunch. It's super small in here, no tables just outside in the summertime. Long lines but it moves fast.

Not a gyro expert but it's tasty. The one by Clarke's is bit dry. This is a better and somewhat hidden location by the court house. Nice place to grab a quick bite and sit outside during warm weather.

After reading tons of positive reviews, I was finally able to try Zo's since jury duty brought me to the area. Those limited lunch hours aren't good for us non downtown workers. Got there right before the rush but the line moves very quickly, nice people, simple menu, good price (including tax). The original gyro ($7) was everything people said it would be, reminded me of the good stuff you can get in Germany (nothing is ever as cheap as there tho). Great bread, tasty meat, a sauce I like better than most. My one complaint is there should be cucumbers mixed in. Wish I worked closer.

  • Melanie T.

The food here is cheap and delicious. I came here for lunch and ordered the Chicken Gyro, which hugely satisfying. The gyro comes filled with chopped tomatoes, Greek yogurt sauce, and chicken. The yogurt sauce provides creaminess acting as a sort of mayonnaise. The tomatoes add a bit of tartness while the chicken is moist and boasting oregano and garlic flavor. The flatbread was soft and supple, the perfect holder for the delicious filling.

GET: The original gyro, spanakopita "spinach pie" ALSO: fast and consistent service, truly friendly people, located on the inner/center part of the plaza (not facing the street) This place is good. The kind of good you say without hesitation when your friend asks you, "How are their gyros?" It's just as the pictures here describe - a fresh warm pita brimming with thinly-shaved pork, tomatoes, onions, and just enough tzatziki sauce to bring it all together. Open-faced because they don't skimp on anything, no matter how busy the place is. I usually like my gyros with super-thick juicy cuts of meat, but I don't think a star should be knocked off for a matter of personal preference. The spanakopita is flaky and huge! I loved every bite of it. I overheard several people ordering their other offerings (soups, salads, chicken gyro), telling me that their entire menu is solid. Very clean albeit cozy storefront with ample seating outside, though most grab-and-go. Lastly, I have to say they are really wonderful people - from the guy who first takes your order to the girl who was working the register that day, they all effused a friendly sort of warmth that makes the lunch rush hour there more charming and less "fast food". I'd go back just for the smiles.

What makes Zo stand out is its use of fresh salsa (yum yum tomatoes in that zesty lemony mix) and flavorsome meat. For around $8, the gyro is decent in size and good value for your money. I wish they weren't just open for lunch though and that more indoor seating was available.

Well worth the hunt. I headed out with an address in mind (Center Plaza) but started walking towards The Corner. About halfway there I realized "Center Paza" is not the same thing as "The Corner". Yes, i know, that should have occurred to me sooner. Nevertheless, I quickly adjusted my route to head over to Center Plaza. I used to work in the Saltonstall building long ago, so I happen to know that area a little. However - from my experience every store in Center Plaza is on the street level. Well, guess where Zo is....yup, not the street level. I must have searched for 8 minutes before I finally asked someone and they pointed me up the stairs to the left. Thank goodness they did. The menu is not complicated - there's only a few choices - but that's probably why it's so damn good. Fresh herbs, tasty food, i couldn't ask for more. Oh wait, yes I could. They asked me if I wanted a drink and I said no - that was a bad idea. I sat down to eat the gyro I got, and i REALLY needed that drink of water. Clearly my fault. Next time (and there will surely be a next time) i will get the water.

Everyone loves Zo's original gyro and I most certainly do as well but I have fallen in love with their soups. I make such a mess of the gyro it is nearly impossible to walk out of the place without a stained top or skirt! So alas, soup it is, I love trying all their different soups and I pair it with spanakopita on days I am extra hungry. I got the beef, veggie and kale soup. AMAZING. Try to get there around 11:45 before the lunch rush or around 1:30 when it has died down. Otherwise you will be waiting in a line that extends out the door!

After walking 20 minutes in 15F weather with a windchill that brought the unpleasantness to a single-digit degree, my experience at Zo has taught me one thing: I'd gladly do it again! I was so overwhelmed with the quality of the food and the service that it is impossible for me not to recommend this place to everyone. I had the original gyro, the spinach pie, and the grape leaves and couldn't find a lick of fault in any of the three dishes. The gyro was professionally made to perfection with just the right amount of meat, sauce, and garnishes, before I had time to dig out my wallet to pay for my meal. The spinach pie was amazing as well: golden crispy on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside. And as for the grape leaves, it was some of the most authentic grape leaves I've ever had (and I live with a Greek chef). All in all, this place deserves a 5 star in every aspect. Definitely do yourselves a favor and come here (before 1pm, apparently that's when the original gyro are sold out). Food, staff = 5 star Decor = 4 star, it's a little bit small with only 5 seats total, so be prepared to stand if you're sticking around to eat.

The stats fell in line and I was finally able to try this place as it is open during very limited hours (on weekdays from 11 am to 3 pm). Before coming into the place I knew I definitely wanted to order a gyro and when I walked in I saw there was two choices, the original gyro, and the chicken gyro. I decided I'd go with the chicken because I preferred a bit of protein in my lunch but I will definitely come back for the original. Anyways, the chicken gyro contained chicken of course, onions, diced tomatoes and some time of Greek sauce that was very tasty. It was a very mess meal but it was extremely flavorful, moist, and the flavored complimented eachother. Surprisingly it was also very filling as well, which is abnormal because I usually eat a lot but I was full after just one gyro. I would definitely recommend this restaurant especially to anyone who likes Mediterranean food. The best gyro I've ever had!

If I could eat spanakopita every day with no adverse consequences, I would. And Zo is where I would go to eat it. My mouth waters whenever I think about their delicious flaky feta spinach packed wonder food! Fat kid fantasies aside, the Greek salad is excellent. The avgolemono (a traditional Greek soup made with chicken, lemon, and rice) is alright, but I'm always down for more lemon. They always have between 4 and 7-8 soup options, which I love. Last week I tried beef vegetable with kale and it was very good. Did I mention the portions are huge? Huge for your half hour lunch break anyway. It's not really their fault, but as the winter swift approaches, I wish they had indoor seating. The building faces east toward the courthouse, so you will almost certainly be sitting in the shade at their outdoor tables. It is a lovely place to read in the summer months though.

My favorite Greek restaurant has set the bar so high for gyros that it is going to take the mother of all gyros to replace/challenge it. After all of the rave reviews of fellow Yelpers, I had high hopes for Zo. The menu is small and the location very convenient if you work on Beacon Hill. I went for the Original Gyro which I was bummed to learn was filled with pork and not lamb. The service was friendly and they had my lunch packed up and ready for me to walk out the door in no time. When I unwrapped this beast and saw a pita stuffed with pork, cilantro, tomato, onion, and tzatziki, I couldn't wait to jump in face first. I took a huge bite and was definitely deflated. The pita was warm and tasty, the toppings were fresh, but the pork was dry and the tzatziki lacked the tangy punch I really enjoy. I ended up eating about half of it and then gave up. If I'm going to eat myself into oblivion it needs to be worth the extra time on the elliptical (or couch) recovering. Will I visit Zo again? I'm sure I will, but I will try one of their soups instead. I wonder if they know they could make a killing opening around 2am on the weekends ...

Zo, simply, is delicious. Working in Boston, I have tried all of their gyros and never come away disappointed. The portions are large enough to be filling. The meat is of decent to good quality, though I recommend the chicken over the classic gyro meat. The pita is warm, and holds the flavors of the meat, tzatziki, tomatoes, and onions together in one delicious package. If you want lunch in this part of town on a budget, Zo is the place to go!

  • Sherri H.

Came here for a quick lunch with my husband, and we will be back! I had the chicken gyro, he had the regular. Both were very good and a good value. The service was fast and very friendly. Looking forward to exploring the menu a bit more!

  • Vanessa P.

Zo was delicious. I got the veggie pita, and it was fresh, flavorful, and just the right amount of food for lunch. However, I'm giving them 4 stars because I take issue with having to pay the same amount for a veggie pita that others pay for a meat gyro, when clearly the ingredients cost less. $8 was a little steep for essentially a small salad with some bread, however delicious. I also tried their Spanakopita/spinach pie, which was delicious (and large!). Definitely worth the $5. I will probably return, but don't know if I can afford to make this place a habit :)

Zo has a couple locations in Downtown Boston and is always a fantastic place to grab a quick bite. They are incredibly quick with their service and always deliver a high-quality product. I would personally recommend the chicken gyro and would especially recommend getting a fork and a plate to eat your meal as it can get messy. Check out their gyro next time you are searching for a lunch spot and enjoy!

  • John C.

Very fresh ingredients, though a bit expensive for what you get. I think the pricing reflects the place's past success. To go from hungry to full for a guy, you're dropping $12-14.

Jury Duty. It's not fun. Even more not fun when its the summertime. But what makes it fun at least is that near the Suffolk County Courthouse there are a plethora of restaurants that serve quick lunches. Since it was raining that day, i just went across the walkway to Zo. And I'm glad I did. It's not much of a place, just a couple tables outside and a few seats inside, but what they serve is incredible. I got the original gyro for $8, and it was filling. The meat was seasoned perfectly, and had great flavor, far better than a gyro truck could make. The yogurt sauce on top was nice and bright, and the vegetables were all fresh. It was enjoyable to eat, and very messy, but it was nice and satisfying for lunch, and helped me power through the last 3 hours of the day in court. If it wasn't $8, this place would get 5/5 easily, but the food still tasted great, and I can see why its mobbed every day.

  • Deborah H.

The most incredible mouthgasm I've had in a LONG time. Get the original gyro for $8. Don't even think about choosing anything else (unless you're kosher, vegetarian, halal, etc, because I think it's made of pork). Get it "for here" otherwise it will be impossible to eat. It will be sloppy regardless. Embrace it. Inhale it immediately. If you're up to it, repeat. WOW. Open only for lunch, M-F, or else I'd find myself here much more often.

Oh sweet baby Jesus. Best gyro I've had in Boston. Super generous portion of chicken enveloped in a soft warm peta wrap. Cooked fresh to order and wrapped perfectly. Great location with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Docking a star because the tsaziki sauce was kind of watery and not impressive. But overall, great try-to-shovel-this-in-my-face-while-remaining-somewhat-lady-like eating experience.

Believe the hype. Seriously, the original gyro is the best f*cking gyro in Boston. Holy mother of god, I ate it just a few hours ago and I want to go back tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that. And then every.single.f* cking.day .after.that. Well done Zo, well done.

Have not eaten here, but have been reading the reviews to see if I will give it a try. Just writing in response to everyone that is "disappointed" that their GYRO was PORK meat and not lamb! FYI, GYROS have pork meat in them and Kebabs have lamb!! Don't confuse the two!!

  • Cindy K.

Best gyro around the financial district! I recently decided to become a vegetarian and I have to admit that every time I come in here, I do get crazy cravings for the Chicken and lamb gyros. The smell is like heaven when you go in there; makes me salivate just thinking about it. THANKFULLY, they do have 2 vegetarian gyros which are are delicious. And the pita bread....so heavenly that when I bite into my veggie gyros, I don't even think about the chicken anymore. =D Also, what I love about this place is that there are only a handful of items on the menu. Some critics might say their menu is limited but when you're in a rush to grab lunch and so brain dead (from work or hunger), you'll be thankful to have only a few choices to choose from. Plus I'm a big fan of restaurants that do one thing, but make sure they do that one thing right and kill the competition.

Been to this place a few times to get a Gyro for lunch. Gyros (supposedly pronounced "yi row" according to what I heard from sources) are a Greek styled sandwich with pita bread, meat, tomatoes, onion, and a white creamy yogurt sauce called tzatziki. Tzatziki is a tasty sauce, and mixing it with meat and lettuce does put some more excitement in your taste buds and palate. I had the Original Gyro, which has rotisserie styled pork on the inside and I thought it was great. The pork was really tasty. The hot pork, combined with the light creaminess of the tzatziki, the juiciness of the diced tomatoes, and the soft, warm and chewy pita bread made it one of the most delicious lunches I had at work. I came back again, and got the Chicken Gyro, and again, this place delivered in terms of tastiness. The diced rotisserie chicken was not dry, and was pretty good. The pita bread still tasted the same, and it still had the soft and warm chewiness. The gyros are kind of small. Using really rough estimates, it was approximately 16.5 cm long (this includes the aluminum foil wrap) and about 6 cm wide at the midsection. Also, each of them were $7, which is kind of steep for something kind of small. The place is only open on weekdays between 11 AM to 3:30 PM so I kind of wish they are open longer and on weekends. Overall, this place can serve some really tasty gyros, and just looking at the rotisseries filled with tasty meats can make your mouth water and just want to eat a really big piece of meat.

Do yourself a favor and EAT HERE. As I was walking and contemplating eating my sad packed lunch, I noticed Zo. I am a general Greek food fan, so I figured I'd try a gyro. AMAZING. I had an "original" gyro. It was definitely the best gyro I have ever had. It was stuffed to the brim with shaved pork, unlike most other gyro places that fill the pita with lettuce and tomatoes to save money on the good stuff. Not here. I noticed that there is also a chicken option. The pita and tzatziki were unbelievable to boot. Thank you Zo.

Zo isn't good, it's not clean, and service there isn't great. ZO IS AMAZING, IMMACULATE AND EPITOMIZES CUSTOMER SERVICE. I literally cannot say enough about this place. I've tried everything on the menu and most of the soups and have NEVER been disappointed. The staff is the absolute friendliest and greet you in such a way that you feel like you're in a small town. They're super mindful of the fact that many of their customers are rushing around during their lunch break, and even when the line is out the door, they get you in-and-out in no time. This is the perfect restaurant in my mind.

For two and a half years I worked upstairs from this place, and I must have gotten lunch from here at least once a week. The veggie lentil soup is my favorite, though the grape leaves, spinach pie, and salads are also good. I've never been to a place that has good food and is so affordable. The service is ridiculously fast. Plus the blond woman who works at the counter is probably THE friendliest restaurant person I've ever encountered. A hidden gem.

Ordered the original gyro. It came with tons of meat and a good heaping of tatziki and toppings. The best pork gyro I've tasted was at the Mediterranean hole-in-the-wall that used to be at downtown crossing before the Sears building construction drove it out of business, but this place is decent and I will be going back to try some of the other options on the menu... lamb chilli, I got my eye on you.

Zo. My. God. I don't care where you've been, you haven't had a gyro until you've been to Zo. I had the original, which I am convinced is a piece of heaven sent down to us by the Greek gods themselves. The soft, warm pita contained the perfect amount of pork, tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce. And all for only 7 dollars too! My only complaint is that the pita itself was a little small. Maybe it's because it was noon and I hadn't eaten anything yet the entire day, but I finished the gyro quickly and was left wanting more. Luckily, the piece of baklava that I bought took care of that problem quite nicely. The service is five star-worthy as well. The employees were fast, efficient and friendly. They had taking orders and ringing out customers down to a science. I only had to wait a minute or so after paying before my delicious gyro was handed to me by a smiling employee. Zo is fast and cheap and absolutely delicious, so it's really unfortunate that I won't be able to be back often. They're open for extremely limited hours - 11 to 3 on weekdays and not at all on weekends. Which is a shame, since they are clearly popular. It wasn't very crowded when I arrived at noon, but by the time I was leaving, there was a line out the door.

Came here yesterday for lunch and got the original gyro. One word - AWESOME The gyro was filled to the brim with yummy goodness and kept me full for hours! I was at my desk eating this and dreaming about the gorgeous sunset in Santorini. Perfect lunch place!

Pork Gyro....yum, juicy and delish. That's the only thing I've gotten from Zo's. It now cost $8, but still worth it.

  • Bill K.

Simply delicious. The gyros are amazing and authentic. Any Greek knows that real gyros are made with pork, and this place doesn't disappoint. I've only had the original, so I can't speak to the other items on the menu. But the busy lines are surely a testament to them as well. The staff are friendly and efficient, and make the line really move.

Why 3 stars? Because it was an above average gyro. --- --- --- It's a solid gyro, do not get me wrong. But as an out of towner, I couldn't understand why Zo was near the very top of Boston rated restaurants. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars, because it was better than "OK" but if I lived in Boston, I wouldn't go out of my way to make a second trip. On top of the average food, it was extremely hot in the closet sized dining room. Don't plan on having a seat if you go during peak hours. Are there not a lot of places in Boston to grab a gyro or did I just catch them on a bad day?

  • Amy M.

The chicken gyro was good, and I liked how fresh everything tasted. The meat itself is flavorful, but not too greasy, with a slightly-spicy yogurt sauce. It was $7 for a gyro, which was less than I was expecting from the Yelp hype, but more than I think the little sandwich is worth. Glad I checked it out, but not sure if I'll be back.

Holy cow. Simple. Flavorful. Authentic (?). AMAZING. Hopefully you go on a warmer day so you can sit outside because there's not much space in that little shop! On my second day in Boston (exploring the freedom trail hehe), I was yelping around for a quick lunch spot, and Zo seemed to fit the bill. Good reviews, a simple menu, and located in the center of the city? Suh-weet! I hiked up the hill from Funeil Hall and managed to find it. Don't be discouraged by the super long lines, the staff is pretty efficient at taking and making orders so that by the time you get to the register, your food is ready! I just ordered the basic gyro. It was amazing. Side note: when I got there, another customer was raving about one of Zo's soups, and the chef was sweet enough to give her recipe pointers. :) And the outlets don't work. :(

Zo gyros are the best in Boston. It is so big it could feed two, if you could find a way to do that without compromising the structure of the sandwich. The tzatziki is is cooling and creamy, the meat is juicy and flavorful, the veggies are crisp and fresh and the pita is puffy and soft. There is not much space to eat in especially if you go during the lunch rush. There is outdoor seating in the summer but even that gets quickly occupied. They have short hours so don't even bother trying to get a bite after work. Don't wear a good shirt or layer up on the napkins because you are sure to have some tzatziki drips.

Read so much about this place but could never make it because of the limited hours. The Original Gyro here is pretty hefty and at $7 not too expensive. It's just a bit more salty than I would like and, while not my fave Gyro ever, probably the best Gyro that I've had in Boston. Wouldn't go out of my way, but if I have a craving for gyro...

One of the top three things I have ever eaten. Original Gyro.

The meat was old and chewy it tasted like it had been on the grill all day. I showed up as they were closing and think that is why. The staff was friendly.

Gyros are very good. Amazing? Not quite. Staff are cool and, they have it together in the kitchen. Aside from the lines, it's never been a long wait. I've had the original with beef and chicken shawarma. There's deliciousness in every bite. The bread could be homemade. It's been a go-to for me after work in the area or, visiting City Hall. Seating inside is sparse. Then there's the patio, which fills up quickly on good days. I recall being there in February, still cold out, yet they had the door open. Be sure to dress warmly, as they sure don't heat the place.

Had jury duty over at the courthouse and went here for lunch. AMAZING Greek food - and CHEAP, which is hard to find in Boston. Good to know: Closes at 3pm....wish it was open for dinner.

Best Gyro ever! Need I say more?

  • Cec D.

I read the reviews and had been interested in checking this place out and today was that day, thank you jury duty. The line was out the door but moved quickly and the staff were friendly and efficient. I had the veggie pita and it was delicious. The griddled bread was so fresh, they stuff it with tasty greens, roasted red peppers, tomatoes and plenty of feta! Drizzled with quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar--you will not be disappointed. It seems silly to be typing so much about a pita but it's that good. Go there!

    (5)
  • Liz S.

The gyros are really fresh, generous portions and very tasty. The garden salad is also good - the balsamic dressing is high quality stuff. Very fast place for lunch, would definitely recommend it. Only thing is there is not a ton of seating in the winter because the outdoor tables aren't viable.

  • Michael D.

ahh SOO GOOD! Place was clean and neat, and service was quick and courteous. Got the original gyro and it was the perfect combination of pork, tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce, all wrapped in a tasty flatbread. AND since tax is included, it cost $7 flat! The Spanakopita tasted fresh.. the outside was crispy, flaky and tasty! Probably the best phyllo shell I've ever had! The filling wasn't too bad.. in my opinion there wasn't enough feta cheese, but it was still good nonetheless! $4 flat! A few downsides: 1. ZO IS ONLY OPEN M-F for LUNCH. THEY CLOSE AT 3 BUT THEY MIGHT RUN OUT OF THE ORIGINAL GYRO BEFORE THEN, so come EARLY! 2. Zo doesn't have any cups, which means, NO FREE WATER. So you gotta either throw down some cash money for water or bring your own!

  • Mary Jo Lisa C.

Authentic greasy yummy gyro goodness!!!! Too bad this place isn't open late night or on the weekends because they would make a killing! The spinach pies and soups are also as good, but mostly people go for the gyros. Finally, a gyro on the east coast that isn't made of processed weirdness that I don't think I would even offer to a dog.

    (5)
  • Kurt B.

Just GO! Everything on the menu is fabulous and the service is both fast and friendly. I make it a point to continually rotate between their homemade soups, gyros, salads, and spinach pies. Ash and Steph are the nicest and always treat their customers right!

Honestly I was excited to try this place. I had jury duty, so when it let out around lunch time, I headed over to Zo. I am just so sad that it didn't turn out to be the delicious taste of Greece I was hoping for. This is like a gyro on steroids, it is just so huge, and the flavor was just, not great. I tried taking some of the insides out in hopes of eating a more balanced gyro, but it was still bland and boring. I could almost tell I wasn't going to be happy, it was sort of like a McDonalds, no one really made eye contact with me. It was just very perfunctory. I don't think 8.00 is such a great deal, although I suppose this gyro could feed two so 4.00 a piece isn't so bad. Anyhow, with so many fantastic reviews I'm just not getting it. If you're someone who likes delicious, but not huge cuisine, I'd say don't go out of your way for this one.

  • Cathy S.

Such friendly service!! Everyone behind the counter smiles at you GENUINELY. Not those freaky sale smiles and greetings screaming "i just want your money!". I would pay any price to support such business. And the gyros are SO GOOD, as tested by thousands of people ahead of me. Fresh, filling and tasty. And it cost only 7 bucks. Lucky you those who work nearby!!

Thank you Charlie for introducing me to Zo. This place is better than Plaka in Athens, and considering I'm Greek - it's a big compliment. Food is fresh, service is impeccable, they have both cans and bottles of soda, and they're so efficient. I love that the menu offers like 6 things. Why overwhelm with options when you're already perfect?

I must have done something awesome in my previous life. Something totally hardcore, like fighting a pack of wolves to save a baby from a blazing inferno so I'd be allowed to find such lunch bliss. What's that? You say that you've experienced the magic that is Zo too? Whatever man, cause me and this gyro, we totally get intimate. Hidden away in the Government Center Plaza, Zo has accomplished the unthinkable: The original pork gyro is THE sandwich. The one for which I would give up all other lunch and still come back at dinner (WHY must you close at 3pm??) The unassuming space is small, but the folks behind the counter move the line quickly while I stare at the giant hunk of pig hanging out on the spit behind them. A couple minutes and $7 later, I'm reunited with my one true love again. I sink into the nearest chair and gingerly unwrap. The pillowy pita bread wrapped around the shredded, juicy pork beckons. The herbs and tzatziki sing from atop, melding flavor explosions that only original gyro can deliver to me. Eventually my enjoyment comes to a close as I sit morosely swiping my finger around the foil for any remaining pork juices and yogurt remnants. ...I don't care if you're staring at me High-Powered Suit Man, this is between a girl and her gyro.

I'd been looking for a decent gyro place after studying abroad in Europe and having the world of gyro's at my feet. This comes pretty darrrrrn close. The original gyro is fantastic. I'm really not one for lamb (gasp! I know) so the pork really hit the spot for me. So many flavors perfectly done. And take the advice from the other Yelpers.. use a fork! Why the 4 stars? Europe spoiled me.

    (4)
  • Mike K.

Fantastic gyro!!! The girl at the counter was super sweet also. She gave us a free baclava cuz we were visiting from San Diego! I could get used to this town...

  • Phil H.

The best gyros I've ever had. This place has a tiny menu but I find comfort in knowing they've perfected the few items they serve. The meat itself is shaved, 100% lean and moderately spicy. The tzatziki sauce is a smooth, cool complement to the warm beef, much like the way aloe soothes an aching sunburn. What's more appetizing than aloe? The location is right near Government Center, which is convenient. Their hours are 11-3 M-F, which is massively inconvenient. The price is right.

Yum!

  • Geoffroy D.

    (4)

  • Sam F.

    (5)
  • Sam P.

This is not only my favorite lunch spot in the area - its pretty much the best Greek food I've ever had! Definitely get the original and let them do their thing. The meat is savory (and not fatty like most gyros), the tzatziki is creamy and the pita is SO fluffy. This place is the best :)

    (5)

  • Mark T.

Meh.

This is a review for their food truck, Zo on the Go. I was randomly walking by the Prudential Building after the gym and I came across this gem. The grape leaves were delicious and the Mediterranean salad was awesome. Tasty and healthy! I'll definitely be back soon!

1- Surprisingly aggressive and rude staff. 2- Only pork gyro is served, very limited choices no beef or lamb 3- If you are health conscious this is not the place for you 4- They have good rating because of price and quantity, if you are about quality then this is not the place for you

Fabulous lunch spot for pick-up. My favorite is the chicken gyro. They have some outdoor chairs but sometimes it's a little crowded with the lunch crew. Sometimes the food is a little messy but it's delish

  • Alex B.

Very solid gyro with fresh tasty tomato and great tzatziki sauce. The only thing I can fault them for is the pork - its actually real meat sliced thin and a bit dry. I like the squishy stuff with a ton of spices mixed in which is probably lower quality but tastes fantastic.

I came in at noon and got the Chicken Gyro. The gyro was a bit dry but a abundant. They are very fast from order to pay, and I was out the door less then a min. After all of the hype I was expecting a more flavorful gyro.

Best Gyro I've ever had. Last company I worked for used to order from them all the time... and EVERYONE went nuts over the gyro's. I hope they don't change anything. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Came here for a quick lunch with my husband, and we will be back! I had the chicken gyro, he had the regular. Both were very good and a good value. The service was fast and very friendly. Looking forward to exploring the menu a bit more!

  • Danny A.

I don't understand the hype behind this place. I keep giving this place a second chance but the pork and chicken is always dry, extremely greasy, and drenched in far too much tzatziki sauce. I leave feeling like I ate something greasier than a cheeseburger and not as satisfying.

    (4)
  • Brett N.

    (3)

  • Michelle C.

Go there!

  • Liz S.

The gyros are really fresh, generous portions and very tasty. The garden salad is also good - the balsamic dressing is high quality stuff. Very fast place for lunch, would definitely recommend it. Only thing is there is not a ton of seating in the winter because the outdoor tables aren't viable.

ahh SOO GOOD!

  • Kurt B.

    (4)
  • Maryan P.

The food is very fresh and the Avgolemono soup is my all time favorite lunch. It's super small in here, no tables just outside in the summertime. Long lines but it moves fast.

  • H T.

  • Richard H.

The best gyro I've ever had, hands-down.

  • Nashrah R.

Best Greek food in town. Greek chicken salad is DELICIOUS and everything is very cheap! Perfect for lunch break during work

  • Edith K.

  • Spencer M.

  • Hiro T.

  • Elizabeth B.

  • Jenn S.

  • Vivian H.

  • Allison W.

Amazing. my office couldnt be much closer to this place, but Zo doesnt jump out at you.

  • Allie C.

  • Ben S.

I want...

    (5)
  • Cindy W.

    (4)
  • Chrissy N.

  • Sara F.

    (5)
  • Kristy T.

amazing gyro (original w pork of course!) amazing soup. amazing salads. if the line is long, they will zip you through, PLUS everyone is really nice and the place is clean. you can't go wrong here!

  • Damien S.

  • Dave V.

Best Greek salad in the city! The line out the door at lunchtime proves it! The grilled pitas that accompany the salad are ridiculously good. The service is fast and everything I've ever tried from there has been fantastic. They just opened a 2nd location next to Clarke's.

This place is so amazing!!! They are only open 11-3 M-F and if you come around 12:30 you are going to wait but trust me IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!!!

Their gyro is arguably the best sandwich in Boston. Awesome!

  • Rachel Leah B.

    Outstanding original gyro for $8.

How do they do that? seriously? Amazing.

Salads seem to have decreased in size and increased in price.. sad. Will continue checking in here, but I am not sure I'll continue getting the salad. The gyros and wraps are a better value.

Very quick with a good selection of vegetarian options. I recommend spanakopita. Unfortunately, the soups are relatively expensive ($5 for 12 oz, $6 for 16 oz).

The soup is a really good deal & the sandwiches are also excellent. It's a bummer that they raised their prices ($8 for a sandwich now), but all the food here is definitely high quality.

Go to Zo yo...go to Zo! Awesome gyros..among the best in Boston (its a tough choice between Zo and Greek Corner). The Original (pork loin) is sooo good. Why oh why does it have to close at 3pm? And what about delivery? They'd make a killing! Opa!

  • Bill R.

  • Teresa T.

  • Debra B.

Went there last week with friends - line moved really fast and we all agreed, incredible food for a fair price. What more could you want for a take out? Short of complimentary wine (like THAT would ever happen) I can't see how they could improve!

Beyond awesome chicken gyros. BEEE YOND AWESOME. If you're in Gov't Center absolutely make the trek to Zo.

  • Brooke K.

Just ate there today, the original gyro ($6.75) was really good, actually better than any kebab. The serving was really quick.

I love this place. The chicken gyro is delicious and very filling. The tomato mozzarella sandwich is also really good. I love the pita bread. Also is is really cheap for the amount of food and quality of food you are getting. If you are down by the courts I highly recommend coming here.

Oh my god this place is amazing! Yes I admit I am practically their on a daily basis but I don't care the food is that good! Great gyros and the spanikopita (spinach pie) is simply amazing. I don't know how they keep the spinach pie so nice and crunchy.. Stop reading and just GO. GO NOW !

Best gyro I've ever had, period - Thanks to yelp for helping us find this place because we would have never just happened to walk by it. This is simply legit, and even if you are not a big fan of Greek food, this place may just change your perspective on things....Try the original, it was unfathomably delicious.

In and out wicked fast with a delicious, and affordable, gyro in your hand. I thought that one wouldn't fill me up, but i was clearly mistaken. Best gyro i've had/am planning to have in this city.

The original pork gyro is glorious. The Hungarian mushroom, and lentil soups are also very tasty.
