Way too expensive for average sandwich.

Walking around in Boston, I wanted to find something else that would satisfy a new flavor. I passed by this place and was enticed by their unique sandwiches. I got the Goudapest, which had gouda cheese, pesto, chicken. They made it fairly quickly and came out warm, cheesy and delicious. I also got a side of their sweet potato fries. Sadly, it wasn't as crispy as I was expecting them to be, but they did taste good and the garlic aioli I got in addition to the fires was delicious. They have a ton of other dipping sauces as well and was amazed at how unique it was! Prices were decent! love the different dipping sauces for fries. I came out satisfied and super full.

I figured they would be busy during lunch, so I decided to order online. Their website directs customers to Foodler to complete online orders which ended up causing me to have a very unpleasant experience. There was an option for a customized vegetarian sandwich where one could select 'veggies' or 'avocado +$1' in the filler section. I chose 'veggies' and then added avocado for an extra buck below where there were other add-ons such as extra cheese available. I ordered the sandwich on ciabatta bread and assumed that the veggies would just be a variety of whatever they had available. The first sandwich the person the person in the 'sandwich line' attempted to put in my to-go bag was actually a wrap, which the cashier pointed out prompting him to remake it. Once I saw them add a fairly normal looking (from 6 ft away) sandwich to my bag, I happily took the food and left. Since I chose the vague options of 'veggies' I was prepared for pretty much anything as far as veggie selection. Still, I was completely surprised to find no veggies at all aside from the avocado for which I paid extra. That's right; bread (tough), cheese, sauce, and avocado. I definitely felt like it was well within reasonable expectations to expect vegetables (lettuce & tomato at minimum). When I called to inform them of this mistake they told me to call-in my order next time. I was also told that they were doing online menu changes in the next month or so but did not receive so much as an "I'm sorry for the inconvenience". Will not return...

I agree with most of the reviews on here, this place is middle of the road. The help seems to be confused as to what is going on. They seemingly forgot part of the person in front of me's order (there were only 6 customers in here at the time), rang my order in incorrectly (I had to bring the substitution to their attention), and looked generally frazzled and rushed for a time that didn't appear to be too busy. When they first opened the sandwiches were all $12-15 which I felt was way too much to spend, especially considering sides and drinks were a-la carte. Since then their prices have come down to an average of $8 for a sandwich, which is much more reasonable but I still think I would prefer Panera more. I got the Cubano which was just ok. I expected the pulled pork to have some sort of sauce on it, but it was just plain and kind of boring. The ham was just deli ham. Nothing over the top, nothing special. The dipping sauce was good, but the tiny container it came in was impossible to dip the crunchy (almost burnt) baguette into. It got a bit messy as I tried to strategically pour just the right amount onto each bite. Overall they make decent sandwiches and their selection is good. Nothing seemed overly special or unique. The service needs improvement, and the place is really small (even for just the 6 customers that were in there).

Stopped in today to grab takeout at about 11:30am and was happy to see that there wasn't a line. Their spicy tuna sandwich piqued my interest so I went ahead and ordered that along with a side of the potato salad that one of the Yelpers raved about. Sadly, both in my opinion were just okay. Since I grabbed it as takeout, I was able to toast the wheat bread it was served on at home so it made a huge difference. The potato salad was slightly undercooked and the mayo used wasn't very memorable. Ingredients were fresh and service was quick and friendly but I'd probably mosey along to few more places before coming back to try another sandwich.

Awesome sandwiches. Slow paced compared to new york but that every where else but New York lol. If I come back to Boston deff coming here.

The sign of the sandwich shop may not be seen easily. The sandwiches are actually delicious, especially the lobster roll. The shop is not that big, but there are tables outside, which is wonderful for a weekend lunch.

Expertly crafted sandwiches with fresh bread and unique sauces. The cubano is absolutely delicious. Why would you ever want to go to Panera or ABP when you can have a fresh sandwich made here plus you get to support a local business. Two thumbs-up in my book! The owners are also great people and very generous. All around a nice addition to Newbury!

Decent sandwich shop idea, but the staff here always seems to not have a clue what's going on. Today was the third consecutive time that it took ~3 employees to place an order for a grilled cheese. I'm not kidding. And then it seemingly takes forever to actually get your sandwich delivered because the staff then doesn't know where the bread is...or certain ingredients...or how to make a certain sandwich... God forbid you ask for a side of mustard. Neat brand, decent food when you finally get it. Train wreck of a staff. It may be different at lunch time - I usually come in around dinner hours. But please guys, speed it up! Oh, and your LevelUp reader continues to be down.

That day I had to give my MacBook to the geniuses was a sad, sad day...but this gem here right behind the Apple Store helped me momentarily forget the distress of having to let go. I ordered a Cubano, recommended there to me as the most delicious sandwich they had, and there were absolutely no regrets to be had after that. There were just so many flavors that were ridiculously complimentary, held together in a perfect baguette. I also ordered sweet potato fries which I'm sure would have been much better if eaten right away, but unfortunately, they were soggy by the time I had time to sit down and eat. In terms of dipping sauces, I really loved the house sauce and wasabi aioli; the sriracha ketchup was also pretty good, too. I just wish Wichit were closer to me because I crave it all the time now...but I'll definitely be coming back soon!

Definitely a step up from Au Bon Pain or Panera. However, my sandwich had all the makings of a good meal, but wasn't quite there. I ordered the hot pastrami on rye(forget the name), and the cheese wasn't melted, which would have made it much better. Also kind of thin. I would go back to try something else if I was in the area, but overall I thought it was pricey for what I got.

I flew in yesterday and went directly to this place that's how deep my need went. I'm doing a lot of traveling this week so I'm trying to get to all my favorite places and this is one of them. Witchit is a neat little sandwich place on Newbury with prices to match. The Cubano is hands down my favorite sandwich to get. Perfect bread, meat, and sauce. The deliciousness abounds in this sandwich. My only wish is for a little bit larger portion for the price. You would think I'd give them the five-star treatment considering the speed with which I got to this place after landing in Boston, but I dock a star for the Newbury price to sandwich size ratio. Still really good food, but paying $14 for a sandwich, drink, and chips isn't something I can do every week.

I've been here twice for lunch and I'd give it a solid C. Sandwiches while good are on the expensive side, the tables are a little squished together and overall I've had better for less $$. If you get a groupon deal or something, I'd definitely bump the starts up to 4, but other than that, not crazy good. The Chicken Katsu: the sandwich was great, but it was a calorie bomb and a half--giant (fluffy and good-Portuguese?) bread--(I had a bite with the bread then decided it wasn't worth it)--sweet potato fries (I thought it would be roasted for some reason, but 6 and one half a dozen the other), and tempura chicken (really delicate and good, but... fried...). I got a Brie sandwich on a different day and it was tasty! Melted and gooey, on the small side, but fine. I tried the house made lemonade and it was on the sweet side, but it was good!

The potato salad is AMAZING. Really. And I am not even a big potato salad fan! Tastes so fresh, flavorful and homemade. I also had the Union Club, which is chicken salad with cheddar, bacon, lettuce and sauce. I am slightly picky on my bread to meat ratio in sandwiches and burgers, and I must report that this one is pretty bread heavy with a hefty ciabatta roll bun. The chicken salad was a bit bland, but had a lot of fresh chopped veggies in it, which improved the quality and overall experience. I'm not usually a bacon fan, but on this sandwich the bacon crunch and salt was essential. I spoke with the owner who came up with all the recipes himself, and I must commend him. Everything tasted very fresh, homemade and was made with quality ingredients. Not my favorite sandwich ever, but definitely would hit the spot for a craving. And that potato salad----GET IT.

It kills me because the sandwiches are SO GOOD - especially the Katsu, but the service is always underwhelming. I've visited the shop several times - dining in, taking out, and picking up an order after calling ahead, and the service ahead fallen short of expectations. And there had always been a substantial wait. One time, the system shut down and I wasn't able to pay with my credit card. To make things worse, she was outwardly frustrated, had me wait 15 minutes while she called for help, and provided me with no explanation. Once the system went back online, she charged me full price for my sandwich, which had gotten cold and soggy while I waited. Another time, I asked the cashier for recommendation and she told me that she had never tried anything there. What!? Really?! Is still find myself going back, but it's always a little begrudgingly.

I feel badly about the two-star rating, and kind of waffled between two and three. However, if it weren't for the awesome cookie, it would have been a "one".... and I really needed LUNCH, not a cookie. So, I had a Groupon (because I have a Groupon problem and cannot seem to stop buying them) for $15 and thought I would get something for lunch and then pick up a small salad to take home for dinner. Um, wrong. Sandwich, fries and cookie was $15.50. $15.50!!! I looked at the board, ordered a Cubano, sweet potato fries, and picked up an oatmeal cookie delight (don't know what it is really called... two cookies with frosting in the middle; delightful, and what's not to love about a cookie with frosting and another cookie?). The Cubano was just OK, the fries were squished and cold/soggy, so it was really the cookie that saved the whole thing. Really. Disappointment really hit as I was finishing up and heard a woman customizing her own sandwich. Hmmmmmmm........ I thought they only had the sandwiches on the boards hanging from the wall; had I known you could make your own, I could have had one that I probably would have loved. Will I return? For a cookie, but that's probably it.

4 stars definitely feels right. The sandwich we shared was good, the sauces were awesome and the sweet potato fries were the best part.

Love their chicken katsu burger. It comes with sweet potato fried and a choice of sauces. Some of the sauce are really good such as avocado ranch and dijo mustard but sriracha ketchup maybe not a good combination. Anyway nice decoration and good deal of buy one get one 50% off 4-7PM.

I bought a Groupon for Wichit and it turned out to be an amazing lunch for 2 people for only $7. Plus, just by checking in on Yelp's mobile app, we got a FREE Order of freshly fried fries. Some of the other reviews had disappointing fries experiences here, but we ordered BOTH the sweet potato and the regular fries and I enjoyed 'em both. Both were freshly fried and seasoned perfectly. Even though the sweet potato fries was cut on the thinner side (I like it a little thicker), they still had good texture and flavor. The regular fries stole the show though...in my opinion. They have a good meaty texture but not wedge-cut. They're fried to crunchy exterior perfection but with a soft interior. Delicious. I went for the green breakfast sandwich with ham, egg, and pesto. The panini was a little on the greasy side, but was kind of what I wanted that morning anyway. A flavorful, delicious panini. My dining companion went for the cubano sandwich and it was also quite delicious! Would probably hit this place up again if I needed a quick bite in the area or some piping hot fries with no frills. Seating is a little on the cozy/cramped side and I would never suggest a date here. It's more like a fancier fast-food sandwich joint. 4-stars with the Groupon, but 3-stars if I didn't have one.

Came here with a coworker during lunch and got the Goudapest. My coworker got the Cubano and loved it. I normally don't finish entire sandwiches in one sitting, but I ate the entire thing and was very satisfied. I didn't find the prices too expensive at all. Priced just right for good quality food. French fries were also DA BOMB. I don't know if this place is a chain, but I like the sleek interior of this simple sammich joint. There was a very peppy dude who looked like the owner/manager of the place coaching his employees behind the counter. He was patient and positive despite their sluggishness. I appreciated that. I would definitely come here again for lunch and would consider getting my office to use this place for catering. Yummy stuff! I shall return.

If two witchits would watch two watches Which witchit would watch which watch? Ok so maybe that doesn't quite work out, but their sandwiches are definitely creative pieces of work! I've come here quite a few times because of groupons and coupons. They really take advantage of advertising and deals! Thank you Wichit! Unfortunately, I would not come here without a coupon deal. Their sandwiches have really fresh ingredients and I've enjoyed all the ones I've tried.. but I just don't think $10 is worth it for one sandwich -Goudapest (hot)- pesto and chicken is perfect. All the flavors mesh really well together. My favorite hot sandwich -Stonemill (hot)- steak, mushrooms, and caramelized onions sounded so good to me, but this was a bit too greasy for my liking. I felt like my arteries were getting clogged with each bite -Spicy Tuna maki (cold)- I think I'd rather just get this as a sushi roll, but I love the concept! -Antipasto (cold)- One of my favorites! The balsamic dressing gives a nice sweetness to the sandwich. Asparagus, prosciutto, and mozzarella. This sandwich was still great even when I saved the other half for dinner -You also get a free sauce with your fries. I recommend the chipotle aioli if you like something with a little kick. Some of the hot sandwiches can be really heavy, so I usually just eat half and have the rest for dinner/lunch the next day if it's a cold sandwich. My roommates and I like to come here during exam weeks when we don't have time to cook and just need something on the go! *They also have free specials with a yelp check in!! r

Meh I would not come back here, and I didn't even pay full price (I had a Groupon). Before I left Boston for the holidays I came here to redeem my soon-to-expire Groupon for lunch on a weekday in December. Service was prompt and friendly, and we received our food not too long after ordering. No fuss about using a promotion either. Seating is cramped, but that's not unusual for garden-level eateries on Newbury St. We had the goudapest and the chicken katsu sandwich. we were not impressed with either. Both sandwiches were extremely oily, like there had been too much oil sprayed on the panini grill. The chicken katsu was very dry. It wasn't too long ago that I visited this place, yet I canNOT remember anything memorable about this place. Skip it.

They recently opened up earlier (around 830am) for breakfast, which has changed my morning in a very good way. Their green eggs and ham sandwich is one of the best takes on the breakfast sandwich I've had in a long time. The lunch sandwiches are also outstanding.

Twitter summary: tasty and creative sandwiches, not a ton of seating space, veg options looked intriguing. What I ordered: The goudapest, sweet potato fries Pros: The sandwich itself was really really good - caramelized onions and Gouda are a killer combination. I'd come back and try one of the vegetarian sandwiches, as those looked great. I liked the look of the interior, although it was a bit tight in terms of space. Cons: Food-wise, the sweet potato fries we got were tasty but a bit on the soft / soggy side. Also if you come here it's not a given that you'll get in-store seating space.

Stopped here for a quick bite while I was out shopping. Restaurant was very clean and the service was impeccable. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I had the So Cal and fries with a chipotle aioli sauce! I was sad when I saw there was a katsu sandwich on the menu after I had already ordered. Will definitely need to make a trip back to try this one out.

Just okay. I had the Crispy Chicken Katsu ($7.99), with the fries ($2.99), and a homemade lemonade ($2.99). The total came to $13.14 with tax. Overall the food was OK, not amazing. Fries were just okay. The honey dijon mustard that came with the fries however was fantastic. The piece of chicken in the sandwich was pretty small in my opinion, the over-sized bun made it look like it would be such more more than it was. The lemonade, which was about 3 dollars wasn't worth it in my opinion, as it was more than half ice. Service was good. The seating is mostly 2 person tables, so maybe not good for a large group, but good for a lunch date or just lunch for yourself. I was still hungry afterwards though. Not extremely, just a little bit. Overall, not a bad place, but I probably won't be back.

Narstay with a capital N. Service was slow (it took us almost 30 minutes to get 2 sandwiches to go during weekday lunchtime in Boston) and the food was disgusting. I ordered the Stonehill, which is supposed to be veggies, sirloin, cheese and horseradish sauce -- it was flavorless, greasy and had no veggies or sauce. And the meat was gray. Not a fan, and will not be returning.

Like peanut butter loves jelly or a dog's passion for his bone, nothing goes better than myself and a good deal. And man, I love coupons. If it weren't for the buy one sandwich get one free coupon in my possession, I would have never stepped foot in an easily overlooked downstairs fast food joint, such as Wichit. Nestled on Newbury Street, it is a little easy to miss; we actually walked by it and had to back track because it seemed so hidden. We had just arrived shortly after they had opened for lunch (usually they open at 10am but on this particular day for whatever reason, they opened their doors at 12pm). There were already a good amount of customers that have placed their order, which was impressive. Their menu is pretty appealing as well: reading the combination of ingredients that is in each individual sandwich is enough to make you salivate. They have cold, hot, breakfast, and vegetarian sandwiches available as well as both soups, salads, hand cut fries for sides. We decided to try the Stonemill (NY strip sirloin, swiss, portabella mushrooms, caramelized onions, roasted garlic aioli, pressed hot on house rustic bread, $7.99) and their take on the Cubano (Seasoned pulled pork, ham, swiss, fresh dill pickles, mojo mustard, on baguette pressed "havana" style, house dressing for dipping, $7.99). While waiting for our order, the kitchen area is open and you are able to see your food being prepared. Unfortunately, I wished I hadn't because it's this experience alone that makes me give Wichit lower ratings. The staff seemed a bit flustered and disorganized. The phrase "too many cooks in the kitchen ruins the soup" may come into play in this situation. It seemed as if they were working on top of each other, causing their productivity in prepping the food to be slower. Also, I expected the NY strip sirloin to be strips of actual steak on my Stonemill sandwich; I was slightly disappointed to see that the worker pulled out shaved pieces of steak and slap it onto the hot griddle. The steak then was barely cooked or moved around before putting it between two slices of bread and into the panini press. When I got my sandwich, I had inspected the meat and had to ask whether this is their normal way of preparing this sandwich before feeling safe enough to consume it (it was!). When finally receiving the sandwiches (15-20 minutes after ordering), the flavors were actually pretty good. We definitely enjoyed the house dressing for dipping the sandwiches in. The concept of different sauces alone is a great one and makes me eager to want to come back to try more with either their fries or their other sandwich offerings. Chipotle aioli? Sriracha chilli ketchup? Avocado ranch? Yes yes yes! The garlic aioli, however, actually made the Stonemill sandwich a bit greasy which wasn't too appealing. The Cubano on the other hand was the better sandwich of the two. The large pieces of pulled pork alone were delicious. When observing other people placing their orders, they also ran out on a few items on their menu, like arugula and the strawberry preserves to make their strawberry lemonade. Maybe we came on a rough or off day for them. But $7.99 for two pretty decent sandwiches? Not bad at all. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back here but wouldn't turn away the idea if I were in the area. AND if i had another coupon too, of course!

Initially, i was suspicious of Wichit, because they seemed so squared away and fancy looking that they surely had to be a chain. According to their website, this is not the case (and they probably just have their graphic design stuff sorted out well). Anyway, sandwiches are mostly a lunch thing, but on some hot nights, you don't want something heavy, something cooked, something dense and warm, you want something substantive but lightweight. So there we were, happy to find this new sandwich place. Me, i enjoyed their handy paper sandwich form and not so long thereafter, i had a good sized sandwich with some nice crusty bread, a decent amount of meat. Oddly, they also have french fries, which are also tasty. On both the sandwiches and the french fries, the sauces and stuff really stand out. The girlfriend had one of their specialty sandwiches and thought it was good, too, but I forget what it was. It's a little bit on the Newbury side price-wise, but not by any means spendy enough to keep it from being welcome to the rotation.

I really wanted to like it - I did but it just is not the quality I expect for Newbury. The concepts are all really good it just fails in execution. I got the chick Katsu sandwich, greasy too much bread not that tasty - fries almost uneatable ball of grease turkey gumbo ok but the guy forgot to put it in my bag so I had to go back to get it. best thing about it was the sauce selection so they get 1 extra star

Kind of really pricey for small portions, although the sandwich itself was pretty reasonable. I had the pear and brie sandwich, which was decent, but not really worth the price.

Stopped by here for lunch and tried the antipasto sandwich. It wasn't too bad, the bread was kind of chewy. The flavoring wasn't bad and the limeade was pretty decent. It wasn't too sweet, but wondered why They put a lemon in limeade?! The store is a walk downstairs and They need to crank up the ac! The staff are super friendly though. I think I'll go back and try other sandwiches.

Unless you want to see your sandwich lost or incorrect, I would not recommend this place. Came with a friend. My order was lost. Friend had his order mixed up. Waited at least 30 min for everything to be resolved. Workstation is just a complete mess here. People are not organized or coordinated. Everyone in line looked unamused. 5/2014 Gave it another try since I had some credit. In and out in 8 min. Not bad I suppose. But there was someone who jag ordered before I got there but whose order was messed up and much delayed. So still 1 star.

***One important note before you start reading: The Yelp map is INCORRECT. It will tell you that the closest station is Arlington- it's actually right in between Hynes and Copley and is several blocks west of where the map shows you it's located. Make sure you plug it into a separate map application on your phone! Now, on to the review: Just gave this place a try after searching for a lunch place with interesting sandwiches that would please both me (essentially vegetarian and a preference for natural food) and my fiancé (a real meat-and-potatoes type). This was definitely a good choice. The service was very friendly- the cashier made a point to say, "Have a great day!" to every single customer as they left, which I definitely noticed and appreciated. I ordered the Orchardhill sandwich- brie, cranberries, pears, and arugula on pressed multigrain bread- and a pomegranate lemonade, while my fiancé made his own creation using their useful checklist (which, he was assured, was not an exhaustive list of what you can add to your sandwich). Mine was very tasty- they didn't skimp on any ingredients, and I actually ended up taking off a little of the brie because it got a little salty toward the end. The combination of ingredients was very unique but so complementary, which is exactly the type of sandwich I love- something besides the obvious when it comes to vegetarian options. My only wish was that the inside of the sandwich had gotten a bit warmer, as the bread only really got heated in the press. My fiancé loved his as well, and the lemonade was delicious. The restaurant itself is pretty small and could potentially get cramped were it very busy. But when we got there at around 1:30 or 2 on a Saturday, it was definitely manageable. The prices were pretty reasonable- mine was $8, and his was a little over $10 because of the combination of ingredients that he chose. I would definitely stop by here again if I were in the area- their philosophy made me really happy in my choice: "A sandwich is a sacrament. A sandwich is artisan breads, hand made condiments, hormone-free and anti-biotic free meats, organic vegetables, herbs, and heaps of creativity. A sandwich is coaxing complex flavors from the simplest, purest ingredients. A sandwich is a craving, a desire fulfilled, a comfort, a remembrance, nourishment and a ritual." My thoughts exactly!

Sandwiches are great, service is meh. I usually get a custom sandwich, which is always spot on. I have heard good things about the signature sandwiches as well. The employees always seem to be brand new, and they are very slow, even when it's not busy. The owner, however, is frequently present and seems like a good guy. I do think the sandwiches are a couple dollars overpriced, but I keep going back because it's tasty and convenient.

  • Danie R.

I think that the ingredients here are of very high quality and therefore are definitely more expensive than a regular sandwich shop. I don't mind paying extra for a better sandwich! But I was kind of disappointed with how small the toppings portions were. The prices are still $10 for a sandwich but you're not getting much. Fries are pretty boring, as were the sauces. I tried twice, but I think I'm done now.

Wichit is great for an unexpected sandwich combo. Por ejemplo, the spicy tuna maki -- avocado, wasabi aioli, nori, and sushi-inspired tuna salad on whole wheat. I mean really, where else can you get a sammich like that? Freaking fantastic. They sell some less exciting sandwiches that are also super tasty, like the So-Cal: turkey, crispy bacon, avocado, and mojo mustard on a soft roll. Again, it's pretty damn good, but it's not the best turkey sammich I've ever had in my life. It's definitely overpriced at $9.99. Go for Wichit's more unusual offerings to get your money's worth. One thing that's TOTALLY worth it though? The potato salad. Good God, that stuff is delicious. Listen, this ain't your lame office potluck potato salad, with too much mayo and not enough anything else. Wichit's tater salad doesn't even occupy the same universe as that colossal disappointment. Their version is unique and utterly delicious. It's creamy, but not overly so. Big chunks of red potatoes, redolent of rosemary, with just the right amount of mustard... Oh my. TL;DR? Stick to sandwiches you can't get anyplace else, and order a gallon of the potato salad. Mercy.

I'm a local, and now I'm a fan! staff is super friendly, which made me want to go back immediately. food is fresh and flavorful, with their seasonings offering a new twist on simple sandwiches. They even have a couple of tables outside, to enjoy Bostons' all too short Summer. The deal: if you getting a side with your sandwich (they offer fries, potato salad, parta salad, whoopie pies, cookies and more), order a "combo" and you'll get a free drink!

Pretty good. I love their sweet potato fries! I would definitely go there again. Don't get their green eggs and ham sandwich. The eggs aren't green... On a serious note, that sandwich isn't all too bad but not that good either.

I ordered a sandwich last week. I'm still waiting for it. I'm sure they're nice guys but they work at a glacial pace and everything seems so disorganized. It was like they were kids trying to run a restaurant with no leadership. They were making sandwiches out of order and were taking way too much time doing it. The sandwich is definitely not worth the wopping $10.

I love Wichit. Sandwiches are fresh and well prepared. Particular favorites are the Union Club, Rude Boy (not on menu..but you can still order it!), OrchardHill and Gimme Garden. Fries are good but I really wish they would consider baking their fries instead of deep frying. Dipping sauces are a nice touch. Definitely try the Sriracha ketchup. Staff is always friendly. A bit expensive but it is a small local company so I don't mind forking over the extra money.

This was the first place we went to when we moved to Boston and I'm so glad we stumbled in here! The sandwiches are good sized, served on fresh bread and created with flavorful combinations. Our favorites are The Union Club, Goudapest and Spicy Tuna Maki. Yes, they're sort of pricey but they're worth it!

Wichit convinced this so-so-to-sammies gal that - Yes, Virginia, sandwiches *can* be creative, mouthwatering, crave-worthy foodstuffs. Wichit is so well beyond the cliche ham and cheese of my heretofore boring deli existence, it is really more than a sandwich shop. That phrase does not do Wichit justice. I first tried this cleverly-named cafe in its original Lawrence, MA mill-based location, and actually uttered a Harry-Met-Sally style groan of pleasure upon consuming my first bite of the Stonemill 'wich. I mean, Dear God, this is classified as merely a sandwich?!?!?! NY strip sirloin, swiss, portabella, caramelized onions, roasted garlic aioli all pressed to hot perfection between rustic slices. A true believer in Chef Chris' inventiveness after this, I have since tried most everything on the menu, without ever being disappointed. This is even true for a salad with grilled chicken, for crying out loud. In my experience, most sandwich shops that offer an add-on grilled chix to salad option see it as an afterthought, throwing a few pieces of dry chicken on the whitest iceberg in the freezer. At Wichit, my add-on chix salad is generous, perfectly grilled and seasoned chicken atop a plentiful greens mix with tomatoes, cukes and curly-cue carrot shavings. The flavor combinations, the fresh ingredients, the attention and thoughtfulness to every aspect of what is on the menu, is evident with every morsel. Yes, the owners are super nice, accommodating the myriad dietary tastes and restrictions everpresent now. But for me, as an indie filmmaker with little to no "fun" cash for eating out, no matter how nice the owners are, I cannot afford to spend one dollar merely to eat "something" so I really have to *want* what I am paying for. The value for the meal, especially on Newbury Street, is quite fair and the portions healthy and satisfying. Their extras and sides, such as very fresh lemonade, whoopie pies and sweet potato fries are treats as well. On a city block where you can get 5 froyo's and not one decent sandwich, Wichit has come to the rescue. It has only been open on Newbury Street for 2 months as of this review, and I'm sure they will work out the logistical hiccups of balancing delivery/catering vs. diners coming in for a seat or rushing in for a quick grab and go. But I have experienced their menu enough times to know their hiccups are few and promptly rectified. Give this mom-and-pop hidden gem a chance in its charming downstairs, exposed-brick locale on Newbury Street, whose lines will surely be out the door come spring. Your inner foodie will not be disappointed.

+: fresh ingredients, lota of choices for dipping sauces, can make ur own sandwiches, places to sit/eat...hours are gd esp since most restaurants dont open until noon in that area on sundays...would def go back! -: expensive for a sandwich but thats to be

The sandwiches may be good, but the wait is excruciatingly long. It just doesn't make sense how long it takes to get a sandwich here. And unfortunately the staff makes it clear how disinterested they are in making your visit efficient and timely.

Aesthetically it's appealing and the customizing process of your order is really cool. Everything I tried thus far is fresh and the real deal. I didn't think a Deli shop would be serving fresh meat but it's on Newbury Street so I guess it better. My favorite is the NY Muscle and it was delish! The fries are freshly cut spuds and it reminds me of IN n OUT Burger in the west coast. And the Bread, to die for! Space is limited so I can only imagine when it gets busy but worth it IMHO. Fair to say it's no processed food joint and not Subway. It is priced right actually on Newbury Street and I've been to many of the restaurants, bars and desert places in this area. You get what you pay for, for sure.

SO I am on a huge sandwich kick and i love this place. Their antipasti is my favorite sandwich on the menu. I have branched out to a number of others but I just keep coming back to it. They are fast and the guys who deliver are always so nice. They always make sure you have everything you need before the leave. I love this place. Healthy, fast and delicious!

I really like the vibe in this place, and the guy (who seemed like the manager also) that rang us up was so nice! That being said... I went with a customized order (the clipboards are very fun, btw!) and got a little carried away building the sandwich of my dreams. It ended up being $13. Oops... Watch out, those add-ons can get pricey. Maybe the intensity of my sandwich was also why it took them 15 min to make it........ Also, I wasn't a huge fan of the Brie I chose to put on it. It was actually huge chunks of Brie, which is very generous of them, but I could barely taste anything else in the sandwich. Way too over powering, and made the sandwich so fat I could barely fit it in my mouth. But I guess that's my bad for ordering it. You were warned. The other ingredients were fresh and delicious though. FANTASTIC sweet potato fries. I'm looking forward to going back and trying one of the sandwiches on their menu. Like the sushi-inspired one... How cool!

The fries came with up to 3 dipping sauces and the Japanese BBQ and chipotle aioli are both great. I got the Stonemill sand which which was meaty both with sirloin and mushrooms. Very good for light meal.

I've recommended this place to many friends and they all have come to love it. I come to this place at least 2-3x a month. I have tried almost everything on their menu (rated in order of awesomeness 1-5 [5 being the most awesome] including: Cubano (4), Chicken Katsu (5), Goudapest (5), Carnegie (4), Antipasto (3), Stonehill (4), Spicy Tuna Maki (3). The sweet potato fries with Japanese BBQ sauce are the way to go for a side dish. I've also tried the pasta salad - it was good but I'll stick with the fries next time. If you're ordering the Katsu sandwich, ask for extra Japanese BBQ sauce on the side when they serve you/you pick up - it's soooooo addicting. This place is amazing and a great value! The sandwiches are decently-sized and I always leave happy!

Came here with a coworker for lunch. I have walked up and down Newbury Street many a time over the past few years but I have never ever noticed this hidden place before! I got the Cubano which was so so good and their fries with one of their many dipping sauces. My only regret is that I didn't have enough room in my stomach to try all of the sandwiches!

I went to Wichit on Newbury St for the 1st time today for lunch with a friend. Kind of a let-down to be honest. I ordered one of the vegetarian paninis which was actually very tasty, however the ordering fiasco was the real eason I'll never go back. I ordered the sandwich and asked for the combo with sweet potato fries and a drink for an extra $3.99. They advertise the sweet potato fries as a stand alone item on the menu for the same price, $3.99 so the cost is the exact same for the sandwich and fries as it is for the sandwich/fries/drink combo. Kind of a steep price to add-on fries and a drink but the sandwich shop is on Newbury St after all so I get it. As my friend who had ordered his meal first asked about the cup for his soda the lady behind the cash register told him he didn't order the combo (which is the exact same price as just ordering a sandwich and fries mind you). He told her he did ask for the combo and she told him it was her mistake that she rang him up wrong but since the combo was not "in the system" it would be an extra $2 to get the soda. What a deal! He asked for clarification because the cost is the same and again she replied that the combo was not in the system so it would be an additional $2 for the soda. He ended up dropping the dispute because he was clearly not getting anywhere with her and he was not going to pay an additional $2 to make up for her mistake. I thought the whole interaction was amusing until I asked her for the cup for the soda that I ordered. She told me the same thing that she told my friend, that she didn't ring it up as a combo and as a result I would need to pay an additional $2. I told her that I did order the combo and her response was that I confirmed I didn't want anything else so again, it was her mistake yet I still had to pay an extra $2 for it. I pointed out that she just had the same exact problem with my friend's order and it shouldn't be my responsibility to pay for her mistake but she was not willing to concede that point so I dropped it. I'm never going back there again based on that experience alone. If you go to Wichit and order a combo meal just make sure you specify that you want the combo with fries and a drink otherwise you'll end up drinking water.

We ordered the Cubano sandwich - it was awesome even with the house dressing! Also got the Stoneham - it was awesome too! Our friend had a customized breakfast sandwich - which was exceptionally great! For those who complain it takes time - they make everything fresh when you order! It doesnt get better than that! We got french fries as sides and they are hand cut and delicious :) we will be back on our next stroll by Newbury st. Owner was super nice to us as his staff and very acommodating too! They told us theres a secret menu that you can order from - so we will do that next time!

I love this place. The sandwiches are pricey but that's because the ingredients are real and fresh and you can taste the difference. I don't feel like I'm eating some processed crap. The only thing I've tried is the Cubano and it's fantastic!!! I can't wait to try more sandwiches. They really have a unique menu. I feel like they would do better if the location wasn't underground...I think the dining area is too dark. I don't want to sit there and eat my sandwich because I feel like I'm sitting in a cave! Overall great yummy experience.

Love their sandwich variety. It's a step beyond the ordinary. The manager Chris goes above and beyond to accommodate every time I have called for catering (and I've repeatedly called at rather last minute), he and the rest of the staff are very polite. They could be a bit more organized as far as sandwich assembly, speed, and picking up the phone, but their food is fresh and delicious, and this is what I care about.

After reading reviews about their first location in Lowell and their new one in Boston, I was very psyched to try this place. However, I wasn't impressed at all with my order. First of all, the guy packing the french fries behind the counter actually pushed the fries into the box with his hands every time he puts a scoop in there, then continues to add more and pushes them down the box. Ugh!!!! That's a big NO NO! Please do not smoosh my fries. In then end, I didn't care anyways because they were soggy. The rosemary horseradish dipping sauce for the french fries were not what I expected either. Heavy on the rosemary flavor, barely any kick from the horseradish. Blech. That's another disappointment. The sandwich I decided on was the Carnegie - their pastrami sandwich. I'm not sure if it was the pastrami or the sauerkraut...it was REALLY salty. Alright, so the best part of the sandwich was the grainy mustard- it had a kick to it. Ugh! I paid almost $12 for a sandwich and fries (that combo came with a free soda)...for that much, I'd rather go to Sam Lagrassa's for an awesome pastrami sandwich! My friend got their tuna sandwich (inspired by a california maki roll) - dry!

I used to work down the street so I would eat at Wichit at least once a week. Really tasty and interesting sandwiches. I recommend either placing your order over the phone in advance or not going during peak lunch hours. They are busy (but for a reason!) and since they make your sandwich as you watch, it does take a little longer, definitely not fast food. A little pricey but it makes sense for the location and the ingredients. I absolutely love their french fries and their dipping sauces! I cannot express how much I miss their chipotle aioli. Not sure if it's standard practice, but I would often get a batch of fries straight out of the fryer, sooo good. Also, ask if they have any specials, from my experience they're always awesome.

The folks here are always friendly and welcoming. I've gotten nothing but spectacular service from every single employee, which is extremely rare these days. The food is also delicious, especially the fries! Best in the area, in my opinion. The prices are fair and justified, given you're paying for food and great service. I highly recommend Wichit to anyone visiting the area - great atmosphere, great food, and great people. 5 stars from me.

After getting multiple emails that Wichit was open my co-workers and I decided to try it out for dinner delivery. I am beyond impressed with the quality and value of this shop!!! I had the antipasto sandwich and pomegranite lemonade and was in pure heaven!! Can't wait to go back!

Went to Wichit today for the first time. I got the veggie sandwich. The sandwich BARELY had anything on it. The amount of goat cheese was a joke. Tough bread. Very disappointed. Had I not gotten take-out I would have sent it back for lack of filling.

They get four stars for the spicy tuna maki sandwich alone. I love the creative sandwich options they offer that I would never think of on my own. The food is fresh, the french fries are awesome and when you order fries you get to choose from 10 or different dipping sauces. I went with the wasabi aioli and it was outstanding. One of my friends ordered the chicken sandwich and one ordered turkey, they liked theirs too. It takes a little longer than subway would but they make everything fresh and to order so I think that's why. My sandwich was totally worth the wait!!

I think the food is delicious, prices are reasonable and service is lovely. I went in with a groupon and they were HAPPY to take it. You know some businesses turn their noses up immediately as soon as you tell them you have a "voucher" so that was nice to see. I ordered the "Goudapest" sandwich which has chicken breast, gouda cheese, caramelized onions and basil walnut pesto pressed on house rustic bread. It was delicious!!!! I made it a combo meal with sweet potato fries and a drink - paired with the chipotle aioli dipping sauce- I was in lunch heaven. I would absolutely come back- a few of the sandwiches sounded really good. I like simple places with options. Wichit definitely fits the bill.

I was super excited when this place opened and I pretty much ate here daily as it was the closest quick sandwich / salad place around. It's gone down hill a bit since then. My biggest issue is the bread - somehow many of them are quite dry and lack flavor (specifically the ciabatta and soft roll). That being said, i still eat lunch here at least once every two weeks My favorites are the crispy chicken katsu, goudapest and the orchardhill. There is also some love for the union club and socal in my office

If you like a good sandwich (like me!) you'll like wichit. A solid selection and very friendly staff. None of the sandwiches were that creative, so that's why I just couldn't quite give 'em the full 5 stars.

I've just had the Stonemill sandwich, it was delicious. The different ingredients match perfectly and the size is just the ideal to have it for lunch. It's my first time on this place and I have to say that I really liked it. It is a little bit slower than other places but it really deserve the wait.

Seemingly overpriced sandwiches from a small shop. Wife had turkey and I the spicy tuna maki. Neither were something to write home about. We went during happy hour so buy one get one at 1/2 price. We order sweet potato fries and they were good but small portion for $2.99.

    (3)
  • d f.

Pros: friendly staff, happy hour special: buy 1 sandwich - get a 2nd at 50% off from 3-7pm Mon-Fri, sandwiches taste good Cons: fries are cold and soggy, sandwiches are expensive ($8 + tax) and small, left feeling hungry. Vegetarian sandwiches cost exactly the same price as steak or other meat sandwiches (that's weird - should be lower priced, right?) Bottom line: This place would work if the sandwiches were $5 each instead of $8 each. Unless a bunch of 1%ers keep this place afloat, I don't see how it will survive. I went here because I had a $2 level up credit and because of the happy hour special that gets you a 2nd sandwich for 50% off. Bonus was that yelp got me free fries when I checked in. Total price for 2 vegetarian sandwiches, a small cup of soup, and fries (no drink): $18. Without the discounts it would have been about $26. That's nuts. I was still hungry after this. And that was with 2 sandwiches plus two sides! That's twice a normal order. Figure that a normal order with a side of fries and a drink will run you about $14-$15. The bread is soft fluffy American style bread (ok, so I grew up in Germany eating pumpernickle, rye, and other heavy european baked breads and rolls, but still...) and the sandwiches are not very big. I can tell that the owners are making an effort and that customer friendliness is also really good, but it comes down to economics: the pricing is just too high.

  • Hana K.

Ordered the Caprese sandwich and was not impressed. For the price I paid ($8.99 for a normal size sandwich), I expected more. The mozzarella was not creamy, the tomato was bland, and they were stingy on the basil. The Cubano on the other hand, was delicious and I kept stealing bites from my boy friend. But I still think it was way over priced. I was glad we could snag seating outside because it was a nice hot spring day. Always fun to people watch on Newbury St.

  • Jilly K.

The Spicy Tuna Maki is definitely worth trying if you're curious about what sushi tastes like in the form of a sandwich. If you are a light eater I would suggest splitting the sandwich with a friend seeing how the price is a bit steep. In all, this is a quiet little spot where one can rest, relax, or study on Newbury Street.

eh. It's a nice addition to the lunch options on Newbury if you work in the pru, but it was mediocre at best. I got the chicken katsu sandwich and thought it was ok- the chicken was flavorful (and you get a lot of it), the sauce was pretty good, and the bread was decent. My biggest complaint with the sandwich was that there was WAY too much breading on the chicken. I pulled out whole clumps of just fried breading because it was not a pleasant thing to eat. I also ordered some fries that were sort of soggy despite eating them in the restaurant (so no time for them to steam). I like that they have dipping sauces but i thought those weren't great.

For a place bold enough to be called "Wichit," I expect some pretty spectacular/ original/ WOW sandwiches. Unfortunately, it just didn't cut it. I was in at 2 pm on a Monday, so there were no customers there and the sandwich took 10 minutes to make. God forbid the congestion that happens at normal hours. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Maki because I was intrigued by the blend of sushi and sandwich, but the mix didn't fare too well. The bread was dry, plain and white. The tuna was decent, and there was a good centimeter of meat so the quantity is a plus. I had also ordered sweet potato fries, but they messed up and gave me regular fries instead, so it took an extra 6 minutes for the fries to come out. Since they were freshly cooked, the fries were just the right texture - not too crispy, but not soggy either. Although I did love the fries, the meal just wasn't worth $14, especially accounting for the slow service. Would probably not come back again except to grab some fries for the go.

My friend, my pup and myself walked a walk for animals event and walked around whole back bay that would allow a dog at least in a patio area. We had so many rude encounters and well, on the tree over there or the fence. But this place, man, I could not even believe, I could bring my dog inside and have the benefit of AC. My pup was even given water. Thank you!!!! The sandwich was Japanese influence, wasabi alioli with nori, Chicken Katsu etc. Nice! I will definitely come back.

From what I remembered reading, this restaurant used to be located up in Lawrence and they closed up shop to focus on their Boston location. I completely forgot about it until I walked by it one day. It's a tiny restaurant, much of it taken up by the kitchen. Here's what I ordered: Cubano (Seasoned pulled pork, ham, swiss, fresh dill pickles, mojo mustard on baguette pressed "Havana" style, house dressing for dipping) - Not sure what "Havana" style is, but it was decent. The meat was a little on the dry side and the baguette was uneven. There were some parts a lot of bread vs not enough bread. Definitely not as flavorful as I had hoped. The dipping sauce didn't do much for me but it had a nice tang. Fries - Fresh cut shoestrings served in an individual deep fry basket. Adorable presentation. They're not crispy nor soggy, more in between. I usually prefer them that way but I generally don't discriminate. Mojito (Lime juice, cane sugar, mint leaves) - Non-alcoholic obviously but it was fantastic! Perfect balance of flavors and sweetness. I wish they offered a smaller size. Overall, I thought it was decent. I was more disappointed with the sandwich especially since it cost me $10. It was a good size as I was only able to eat half. I'll have to try the other sandwiches.

Love their sandwiches. I work in the Back Bay but it's about a 4-block walk there. I walk by about 20 other places to eat for lunch but the sandwiches at Wichit are worth it! Just finished the Goudapest. Yummmy!!

  • Amanda K.

This place is pretty spectacular food wise. The management is always very nice when explaining the ingredients in some of their sandwiches and when taking orders. The only issue is the price. Since I work on Newbury St, I expect the prices everywhere to be a bit high, but it is still a little bothersome that a sandwich is about 10 dollars here. I would definitely indulge in this place more often if it was cheaper. Food quality: A++

They may be called Wichit, but the real stand out here are the fries. I thought the regular fries were good, but they gave me the sweet potato fries by accident and it was love at first bite. Magical crispy batter, flavorful but not overwhelming. Marry me! I'm also very easily won over by the dipping sauces for the fries. I've only have the chipotle aioli so far, but definitely plan to try the others. The other sides aren't as stand out. I found the potato salad way too heavy on the rosemary and the pasta salad was on the bland side. The sandwiches I've had are good. Not great, but good. The So Cal (turkey, bacon, avocado) was a little too heavy on the turkey and the turkey was pretty bland. The Union Club (chicken salad, bacon, cheddar) was tasty and generously portioned, though the ciabatta was a little too tough for such a tall sandwich with squishy insides. The Cubano is really good. Very flavorful with the smart addition of house dressing for dipping. It's a good foil for the crusty baguette. As a serious beverage connoisseur, I also appreciate the tasty lemonade, limeade line up and will definitely be hitting the frozen drinks come Spring.

This place had potential. I've been three times, and each time, the sandwich has been pretty bad. No flavor. I prob could have made a better sandwich at home. The seating is really cramped, it's definitely over priced and the food takes forever. Won't be going back

  • Joel F.

If you're paying ten bucks for a regular sized sandwich that doesn't come with any sides (not even a pickle), the sandwich had better be perfect. The chicken on my Goudapest was dry and the sandwich as a whole was awfully greasy for what amounts to a pesto chicken sandwich. Yuck. One star back for the cashier's friendliness and a cozy interior but the food was incredibly dissatisfying given the price.

    (2)
  • Jenna K.

Whoever doesn't tell you this place is expensive is lying. It is fast food and a sandwich costs $9. Nothing comes with it either. I live in Boston and I know it is expensive but this sandwich was definitely not worthy of it's price. I had a groupon so it was okay but I definitely would not return if I didn't have it. If you can afford the price it was actually pretty good but in a city where there are so many amazing fast food trucks, why settle.

I like how their sandwiches are creative, and the ingredients are fresh. The only downside is that they need a little more push in the flavor and spices department. The potato salad is very good though.

i have read a lot of reviews before i checked out wich it and yesterday went for the first time. got the cubano, which was the best cuban sandwich i have had outside of miami. i have never been to cuba, but i guess they just call it a sandwich there. but anyways, it was really tasty. i also got the cookie with the cream in the middle, also amazing. i would definitley come back and the guy taking the order and giving me my food was really nice. i can understand some of the negative reviews based on the priceyness and size of the sandwich. but all the ingredients and sauces seemed top notch, and high quality. plus, its on newbury st, i am sure the rent is astronomical.

I love sandwiches and in my mind - there can never be too many good sandwich places. I heard about this place through the grapevine and randomly found it on my way to the tailors. Place is clean - fairly mod for a grab and go sandwich place. Exposed brick, open kitchen - I had no issues with the venue itself. Service was also fine. I asked the cashier what the most popular sandwich was - and she mentioned the "special" which is called the "rude boy". The rude boy is a pastrami sandwich with a fried egg, avocado among other ingredients. Sounds delicious right? All yours for the price of $10.99. Add a soda and my total was almost $14. The sandwich was so-so. Flavors were lacking. And at that price point - I expected something truly gourmet. That very moment - my wife sent me a picture text showing me the 2 course lunch menu with a beverage at Aquitaine in the South End for $12.95. I know that is apples to oranges - but still. Final verdict is that the food is average but uninspiring. Venue and service were fine - but its a grab a go kind-of place. Prices are WAY too high. If this business wants to succeed - they need to adjust pricing. Lunch for two with fries and soda can easily get you over $30 - that is NOT acceptable for a place like this. I most likely will not return - but I may give it one more shot.

Yum yum yum! Just what I needed. A sandwich shop close by! Wichit offers all different types of options-- vegetarian, etc.... I ate their "Gimme Garden"-- filled with all my favorite veggies and best of all GOAT CHEESE. What is better than goat cheese? This will become a new regular spot for me.

Of course the food is the most important element in a casual eating establishment but even better than the great sandwiches and awesome fries (with choices of dipping sauces-we got and recommend the spicy catsup) was the excellent customer service! Such friendly, attentive, and patient staff. As it was our first time here it took a few minutes to figure out what to order since all the choices were so tempting. We also had a picky kid with us so the "make your own" option was welcome and necessary. Everything was delicious and everyone was very nice. You could tell all the ingredients were of high quality and fresh. The only thing I would change is the little spotlights in the small seating cove because they are angled toward your eyes if you're sitting in certain seats.

Sandwiches are definitely very tasty but each of the several times I've come I've had to wait a very long time. There were two people in front of me this time and I had to wait 20 minutes for one sandwich and a side of fries. If you don't mind the wait, the sandwiches are yummy.

Absolutely delicious. I really love the food this place makes and it definitely deserves to be on Newbury Street - classic sandwiches. Stonemill for the win 2014.

Got some sandwiches from this place with the 7 dollar groupon deal. (15 to spend on food). I had the Goudapest (Coworker) and the Spicy Tuna Maki. I actually liked my Spicy Tuna Maki but like everyone had said, for 8 bucks, there should be more meat/ingredients than bread. My coworker said the Goudapest was good, not great. Overall if you were able to get the groupon deal, I'd say go for it.

Fantastic lunch spot when you want to escape the everyday options! Great sandwiches and great sweet potato fries! Some great vegetarian options, although I am not a vegetarian, they are actually my favorites. I love the Brie and Grilled Pear!

I noticed this place last week and decided to try it out tonight. At first I thought it might be a little expensive but upon trying the chicken katsu sandwich I was instantly a fan. The sandich melts in your mouth and is gone before you even realize you were eating it (not that it was small). The interior is very nice and the staff are incredibly friendly and willing to explain any thing you might have a question with. I'm definitely coming back when I crave this sandwich again. TL;DR try the chicken katsu you will have an amazing meal

I got the veggie sandwich and it was really good! This is a nice addition to the lunch spots in the area. The french fries were ok, but the dipping sauces were great! My con is that the service was slow and frazzled. I don't know if I would add this to my rotation for lunch spots, but it's a good occasional stop in.

Really solid food all around. There are sweet potato fries and a variety of dipping sauces that can be added on for a reasonable price.

Best fries in town, specially when you get a delicious Chipotle Aioli dipping sauce. One of my favorites sandwiches is the Goudapest, basil pesto sauce, Gouda cheese, caramelized onions and grilled chicken! The best combination for a great and affordable meal! Oh and not forgetting my refreshing clockworld drink!

I went here for a "quick" bite with a friend. The service was terrible!!! At 7:45pm on a Friday they only had 2 staff on and were completely unprepared to be busy as I would imagine Friday nights would be. They took our order and proceeded to take 7-10 other orders before completing ours. Start to finish we waited 25 minutes for a to-go order of 2 sandwiches and fries. Also, I ordered a caprese sandwich and they forgot to put the tomatoes on it. The fries were good but not worth the headache of eating here. With all the other restaurants on Newbury and surrounding areas, I'd suggest finding something else.

Flavorful sandwiches and excellent dipping sauce for the sweet potato fries. Really like the bread used for the sandwiches. Had the Goudapest and Cubano. The rosemary horseradish dipping sauce was awesome.

Wichit knows how to make a sandwich and they do it well! I work locally and get lunch at Wichit 3-4 times per week...it's that good! My first sandwich recommendation has to be the Cubano. I am a big fan of the Cuban sandwich in general, and there aren't many places that do it as well as Wichit. If you're not familiar with a Cuban sandwich, it's ham, slow roasted/seasoned pulled pork, dill pickles, and mustard on a baguette and pressed in a sandwich press...and don't forget their house sauce to dip it in. If you're a fan of fries, they do handcut fries and sweet potato fries..both are excellent! My 2nd sandwich recommendation would be the new "Rude Boy".. This sandwich definitely tickled my taste buds!! It consists of lean pastrami, a fried egg, avacado slices, cheddar cheese, pickled onions, and chipotle aioli on a brioche bun. The Rude Boy is not on the menu...you have to ask for it, but trust me you'll be glad you did!

A sandwich place on Newbury. Awesome! But I think I ordered wrong. The Tuna Maki sounded good--sushi inspired tuna, cucumbers, avocado, whole wheat. The health nut in me loved it. But it was dry and basic. I always eat my bread, but I decided to eat the tuna without the bread because it was so dry and tasteless. Next time, I'll go with something with more meat. The cubano perhaps? DO NOT GET THE MAKI TUNA.

If you want a $5 sandwich for $10, this is a great place to go. The food isn't great, and takes forever. The customer service, however, is great.

If you feel like waiting 30 minutes for an overpriced sandwich, this place is for you!

I really wanted to like this place but $30 dollars later I find this place lacking. Here are a few of my thoughts. The place is not cozy, it's cramped, if you are average height, you probably won't be able to sit comfortable inside, and if it's busy you can get trapped in your chair. The sandwich insides are good. I had a goudapest and a special that consisted of ham, avocado, bacon and mustard. Both subjectively tasted very good. The bread is disappointing. Specifically, the French bread was rubbery. The sweet potato fries subjectively tasted very good. The mayo based sauce made it even better. However, some of the fries were too small and were like nubs. Like everyone should be saying, it's overpriced. The total for 2 sandwiches, 1 drink combo with fries and a cookie desert was about $30. Comparable places would be around $20. It's a shame that this place is on Newberry because they have to charge higher prices for the same food, and they don't have enough space for a comfortable dining experience.

This cozy little sandwich nook on Newbury Street in Boston has allot of potential to have staying power among the many other establishments in the area. When I stopped by a few days ago, I liked the layed back atmosphere but was a little confused on if I can customize my own sandwich or if I can choose a sandwich off their menu. Moving ahead I decided to order the Carnegie sandwich, fries, and a drink from their menu. The Carnegie sandwich consists of big portions of pastrami and sauerkraut which are slathered with a very spicy mustard sauce. Their hand cut french fries are nicely seasoned and come in big portions. The friendly lady taking my order asked me if I wanted regular ketchup or "Siracha Ketchup" with my meal, which as she explained was a spicy ketchup. I decided to go with that option and my order was place. The total came out to almost $16.00, which is a little much but didn't bother me. I saw that I was charged $0.59 for a small container of ketchup, which was the "Siracha Ketchup". Although their prices are slightly high, what do we expect, this is Newbury Street! About 10 minutes later, the sandwich that I ordered called the Carnegie was ready. Each bite was totally awesome and very filling! The very spicy mustard sauce almost caused smoke to come out of my ears, and the overall experience did not disappoint. I think Wichit is a great addition to Newbury Street, and should be visited by any sandwich, or food connoisseur, it does not disappoint.

Well, it was not bad by any means.... just nothing that special either. I know the rent is crazy high on Newbury street so I can understand why places have to charge $22 for two sandwiches. Its just still hard to pay if its not spectacular. I haven't ruled it out yet. Will give it another try. I think I'd like it more if it were in the suburbs and cost around $7 per sandwich. It was good though... food was good quality... place is nice... staff is good.
