To the blonde hostess that was there at 7-9 pm. tonight 12/6/14: Grow up. And learn to do your job right. I arrived with one other guest, you said the wait was 20 minutes. You took my phone number down and said you would call when our table was ready. Its 1 am now and I'm still waiting for my table. You know those faces of displeasure you made while we were waiting? Like you didn't want us to be there? Or do your job? PUT IT AWAY. A guest should not have to be received at a restaurant in this manner, especially in a tourist district of Boston. You're only welcomed in if you're a white kid/tourist/professional....really, its infested with white kids who cant handle their drinks. We couldn't get a table to eat because there were slobs taking up the tables to hold their drinks. Trashy. Disgusting. They let drunk kids in Santa suits get in faster than we did being hungry and sober. I've been to Catina's in Mexico with more class. We came for dinner. Not $8 drinks. Why weren't we seated or even contacted? If we were as stupid as you thought we were, we would have been sitting there the whole night waiting. Zuma down the street has a much better environment, MUCH BETTER service and def better food. More authentic tequila and of insane variety. And they seat you at once, even if its busy. They welcome you in too! Its none of that "white exclusive" environment this other restaurant desires to maintain. Gross!!!!

The food was acceptable but cold and the service was terrible. The waitress was less than apologetic for the fact that it took almost an hour for apps and then almost an hour and a half for dinner to show up. If it were a busy night we would have understood but it was less than half full. Not happy about this place, they need to get their act together. You'll have customers but not repeat customers with service like that.

Had lunch cocktails here yesterday and had a wonderful experience. Very friendly staff, attentive bartender, warm and relaxing environment. Great place to have fun at happy hour.

I've been here a few times and all for the same reason- after work happy hour deal. The good thing about it is the "deals" you can get. They include discounted margaritas, beef/chicken tacos, PBR, Modelo, quesadillas and no cover charge. If you go right after work for a "party" then you can easily find a table in a corner and the wait staff are a bit more attentive. Once the evening starts going, it gets a lot more crowded and the service begins to wain which is a bit understandable but not always. For example, my coworkers and I went last night and we were able to order plenty of food and drinks between 6-7. Once it got past 7, it just went down hill. They messed up our food orders, we couldn't get to the bar because people don't have manners, it didn't look like they had enough bartenders to help balance out the supply and demand of drinks. I will give them credit because they are quite generous with the alcohol. The food isn't bad. I've had plenty of their beef/chicken tacos, chicken quesadillas and fish tacos. They offer chips and salsa too which is really good. The drinks are good too. The house margarita is easy to drink and the flavored ones aren't overwhelmingly sweet. This place is good for the "after-work" party but I wouldn't go there otherwise.

We were seated and a waitress took our order for an appetizer, and then we're were ignored for about 20 minutes. No one came around to ask what we'd like to order or drink. Finally when our Nachos came, it was changed by three waiters/waitresses like all of them were confused whether it was ordered by us. The tacos were mediocre. The nachos were ok. The tortilla soup was horrible - it's merely salsa soaked in hot water. Soggy chips, bland broth, raw avocado, and salsa. That's it. Very disappointed. Btw, we went there for Dine Out Boston because we saw it on the list. But when we arrived we were told they had no idea about the restaurant week, nor did they have a dine out menu of course.

I went here a couple days ago and received terrible service. The host sat us outside and then wouldn't let us move indoors despite seats being available and it being cold out side. Our server didn't come to our table for about ten minutes after we sat down and ended up bringing us the wrong order. The drinks were over priced and, as stated by others, they tasted horrible. Never going back.

Chicken tortilla soup no bueno, two tacos not freshly cooked and just a tortilla with meat guess they never heard of lettuce, tomatoes or sour cream. The side of rice came in a 2"x2" tiny dish! Won't be going back but I'm sure their clientele are tourists cuz locals just wouldn't put up with it!

I give three stars because there's only three good things about going here: 1. You can win a discounted "after-work" party countless times 2. MARGARITAS 3. QUESADILLAS The male and female bartenders are rude no matter the day of the week. I've been when it's extremely busy and when its more calm. They just don't know how to work under pressure which is understandable I guess but being rude is never they way to go. If you want to have a good time here go with a large group of friends and it will distract you from the angry staff.

  • Kate Z.

Giving one star because I like tequila and there's no option for no star... It was a nice spot for people watching I will say. The tequila selection was large, I believe 100 choices to pick from. They had flight options but only 3 choices which was lame.. I would suggest letting people customize their flights so they can taste what they chose.

  • Lily T.

Eh. The pre-mixed margaritas are overly sweet and super weak with too much ice. The food is ooooook, not great, not bad. It's not really what you'd go there for.... It's a bit of a terrible post-work sleazy pick up joint mixed with wide eyed tourists that turns into a cheesy dance club later post-dinner. Whoever did the interior decorating did a great job. Pass on the food, drinks and vibe. 2 stars because it's passable for something decent, I guess the grossness of Faneuil Hall rubbed off on what Mija could actually be...

The service here is actually the biggest joke in the world. My first experience here involved my boyfriend and I waiting at the door for ten minutes to be seated, when we went over to the bar and asked they said "yeah the hostess seats you, just wait there." Five minutes later a girl gets up from a table with other staff members and comes over to seat us in a less than friendly way- sorry to bother you. The second time was for a happy hour special which is the only reason to ever come here. As I tried to sign in in order to get a stamp and receive the discounts (which I'll get to in a minute) the girl at the desk asked what I needed and when I told her she said "ok wait there" then proceeded to take 3 other customers that had been behind me in line and then pulled out a clipboard had me sign it and tried to send me away without giving me the stamp. As I awkwardly stood there as all my friends looked at me wondering what in the name of god could be taking so long I was able to take in the atmosphere and by that I mean notice the intense amount of butt cheeks and side boobs popping out of the staff members dresses. I mean normally I'd say hey let you freak flag fly but this was almost to the point where I wonder if someone is telling these girls to dress like this or secretly cutting parts of the fabric of their dresses off when they are not looking. One night after that I had family in town who wanted to see Quincy Market and sadly told me they were up for Mexican if I knew a place- sigh I went back. My family was from Ireland and admittedly have thick accents that can be tough to understand but the waitress who had the personality of one of the dead fish I later consumed was clearly put out by having to ask them what they were saying. Eventually I had to order for them because I was honestly worried she was going to yell at them and when I finished placing their orders she walked away without saying anything. Last straw: My friends and I quickly discovered that if you put your real email down on their list when you sign in to the cocktail parties you will basically automatically win one. I didn't take them up on it because I didn't want to subject my friends to this place anymore but that didn't stop their promoter from emailing me 3 times and calling me twice. Sadly one of my more forgiving girlfriends gave them another chance when they emailed her that she had won a birthday brunch. She made the reservation for 11am today. Directly at 11 this morning they called her and said they were going to have to push her back to 1130 because they were short staffed. We were a little late so whatever we decided to go anyway even though that to me seemed pretty unprofessional. We went in 5 minutes early, or 25 minutes late I guess and 3 members of the staff made a point of saying "we can't serve you until 1130" which was funny because there were like 5 waitresses standing in the back and the bar was already serving people so I'm pretty sure they could have offered us drinks but they waited until it was actually 1130, the waitress was fine but honestly not as apologetic as I would have expected them to be. We got our half priced mimosas. And were told the kitchen was still not ready. In fact in the time it took I was able to write most of this review. Finally with a bit of a time crunch we looked at our friend and said "How about we buy you brunch anywhere you want?" She agreed, we dipped and had the greatest brunch I ever experienced and I will 100% NEVER BE BACK.

We were looking for a place to sit outside and have something to eat and drink and this was an great choice! Awesome nachos and mango calamari. House specialty taco... Cheeseburger... Don't miss it!

Get your sh%t together, Mija Cantina. I work in the area and we frequent this restaurant because we like a la carte tacos and a good tequila selection however, every time we have gone or showed up there is a major calamity or just generally poor service. (1) The credit card machine isn't working so unless you have cash, you are unwelcome (2) We showed up at 11:40 and the manager gave us the stink eye and told us they were not open yet (even though we always go at 11:30 am) (3) You are always out of something very common on the menu an being that we show up at 11:30 am, there is really no excuse for low inventory. (4) Half of your staff is usually sitting in a very visible area, not working or waiting on customers I like your food but your inability to manage whats going on around you makes me never want to return.

  • Stephanie T.

Amazing if you are here for the after work parties, especially on thursdays with the half off apps. Do yourself a favor and get the nachos, best decision you will make. I think the drinks are a little over priced if you aren't getting any drink specials, but the margaritas are made well and they are generous with the tequila. I have been coming here pretty much since they opened, and the prices have gone up a ton since then, which is a little disappointing but I understand. The only reason I didn't give more stars is the service. The hostesses and bouncers are great, always courteous and quick, but the bartenders attitudes leave a lot to be desired. They aren't super attentive even when the bar is not that busy, which is really annoying since the drinks are not huge, so you can need a refill pretty quickly. Also avoid the bathrooms if you can, even on a thursday at 5pm with the bar pretty empty they are pretty disgusting.

This place has very few redeeming qualities, in fact the only reason I would return would be because of the 2 friendly bartenders I have dealt with or because I would get dragged there by friends. I've been here a few times now and it is mostly because of their central location. On my last visit I ordered a pitcher of Sangria with a friend. Now this was not a dainty pitcher. It was a Kool-Aid man sized pitcher (see pic), this thing was massive and only cost $38. Sounds like a deal, right? Think again... After practically polishing the pitcher off (about 4 - 5 glasses each) in under 2 hours I asked my friend. "Are you in any way buzzed or drunk?" I get a no reply on both counts. I then mention it to the bartender in the most polite way possible. She replies "You ordered sangria what do you expect?, it is mostly juice!" You've been warned... We were comped 4 shots of vodka to compensate us, but the cold sweats I woke up with because of the lethal combination of sangria and house vodka were priceless. Tacos are priced at $5 a piece and are mediocre at best.

Mija is a very fun and respectable restaurant/ bar. The food was authentic and tasty. Overall the service was awesome and the vibe at night was entertaining. The music was the best on Friday and Saturday nights. Also, the bartenders really know what they're doing and kept everyone beyond satisfied. Lisa, Alex and Sonic impressed me with their work! I'm glad I was recommended to visit this place while visiting Boston. Whenever I'm back in town, I'll be sure to come back!

This was my first time here. I'm going to first list the pros then list the cons. Pros 1. The doors were open and the lighting was nice. 2. We could sit outside or inside. 3. We got a booth. 4. Service was average on time. 5. Waiter was pleasant, but also clearly new. 6. The chips were warm and seemed like they were homemade and fresh. 7. Good burger. Cons 1. The prices were sort of high it would be nice if they had some cheaper options for alcohol. 6 bucks for a draft or a bottle beer is a bit much. 2. Asked for sour cream and was charged 1.25. Asked for Jalapenos in Quesadilla and charged another 1.25 asked for aoli and was charged 1.25 all without any warning from the waitress that there would be more charges. Did not like being charged for extra things without knowing. 3. Orded three tacos. All of them were tiny and tasted sort of spicy with little other taste. One of them I couldn't eat as it tasted bad. I mentioned it to the waitress and she just said "oh" and took my plate. 4. Guacamole had big chunks of onion in it and that's all I could taste. Not terrible though. 5. The waitress was not trained well, even for a new employee. Didn't know very much and had to keep asking other employees. 6. Food made me sick when I got home. :( Overall one of the worst I've been to and would not go back or recommend.

This was terrible. No stars (one because Yelp won't let me choose zero). Bad service. No napkin even til the food was gone. Stale chips (that are $4 not even free chips and salsa, fine but if you charge me it better be good). Over priced tacos. Zatarans microwave rice as a side. Servers were nice which was a plus. Drinks were "light". Definitely not coming back. Will continue to visit the nearby competitor.

The mojitos are great! One of the female bartenders makes the best mojito I've ever had! The food is pretty good, I've had the guacamole, nachos, burritos, tacos, all fresh and hot! Would definitely recommend and continue to come back.

Grilled Taco was delicious and the shrimp taco is spicy with a sweet purple slaw. Just be prepared to dish out a few more pennies for the location.

I have been to many places in the middle of the day on the weekend as part of a bar crawl through the area.... this place I wasn't impressed. Despite being overflowing with patrons they didn't open up their 2nd bar, 30mins early. Maybe there are rules for that? maybe there aren't. Their bar is also set up for the one convenient location to make a line at the bar for orders is the place servers and barbacks also have to use. It isn't really designed to be a hopping place.... its more of a touristy trap kind of venue... which is fine. location location location, right? If you are going here expecting an amazing fancy boston mexican experience you will be disappointed. If you are trying to belly up to a bar to get a drink because you have been shopping and are craving a quesadilla you'll be adequately satisfied.

More of a touristy place but pretty good margaritas. It's a great place to stop by after walking around to grab a quick drink!

  • Evan P.

I am very surprised by the reviews. Yes, it is touristy, but that is expected in Fanieul Hall. Its got a decent amount of space inside and prime outdoor seating for people and street performer watching. The cocktails were great and service was also very good!

    (4)
  • Leslie W.

Nice patio but the food is just bad. The bartenders and wait staff are obvioulsy hired for their appearance and not their skills. The cocktails were sugary disasters and way over priced. The sangria was decent and if you get the pitcher not a bad deal. all in all skip it.

    (1)
  • Anne F.

Atmosphere was okay; it was quiet enough that we could hear ourselves talking. No table service. Open patio doors allowed a nice breeze. Watch your receipts here. Three of my friends and I ordered the same cocktail. The bartender charged them a dollar more than was listed in the menu; she charged me $2 more, which we didn't realize until later. The cocktail was basically a diluted tequila frosty. But I left a good tip because anyone who's working late on a Tuesday night must need it. Guess the joke's on me because I left a REALLY good tip including the arbitrary price increase! Not cool, Mija! Play those pricing games on tourists and students, not locals.

I was pleasantly surprised when I was here this past Saturday evening for dinner. I was actually dreading going here because of the Yelp reviews. (we were going for a friend's bday) My fiancé and I actually ate dinner before going! I am not sure if we just got lucky but the service was excellent! We had two waitresses (both blondes but I am unsure what their names were) and they were on top of everything. Impeccable service....... The atmosphere was wonderful and the DJ was spinning some great tunes. We did nibble on the chips and guacamole and it was delicious! I look forward to trying Mija again in the future since Mexican is my favorite food.

    (4)
  • Stephen O.

Drinks are pretty good as is the food. Really overpriced. Hard to find space to even stand. Yuppie crowd. One of those places that feels like its doing you a favor by allowing you in.

    (3)
  • Donna W.

I'm not sure how the service is in the restaurant, however - if it's anything like their take out is, it's probably not exactly up to par. I ordered a quesadilla which has sides of pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. Common sense would assume these sides would all be put in a souffle cup to avoid everything running all over and sogging up your quesadilla. Nope - literally my entire quesadilla was soaked in sour cream, there was a measly tablespoon of guacamole, what looks to be pico de gallo from about a week ago, and there's a couple sprinkles (and by couple I mean like three strips) of lettuce on top - which isn't even included in the order, so that's weird. I don't think I'll be going back here again for lunch - but take your chances if you will.

  • Jonathan S.

They overcharged my credit card for items that I did not order and they charged me for more expensive drinks than I ordered. When I tried to talk to the manager about the charges he refused to give me any money back since the card had been run already. He was very snarky about it and tried to justify it by saying 20$ was not that much. I will never be back.

    (1)
  • Josh G.

It was a good experience. It's right in the heart of Quincy Market. The food was relatively cheap. The drink we very good. I had the tacos (chicken, beef, cheeseburger) and all was good. I was very impressed with their selections of hot sauces and had a habanero hot sauce that was awesome.

I would like to talk to the Business Owner! I had dinner in your restaurant on 29 Dec 2014 with my daughter; the bill came to with tax $30.48. The next day I checked my bank account and your employees charged $56.16 on my credit card. I called and spoke to the manager "Leo" on 30 Dec who said was going to fix the problem. I have not been refunded so I called again today and spoke to Melissa and my first call she was too busy to handle it and said she would call me back in 15 minutes she never did so I called again and now she is too busy to handle this today because she is getting ready for New Years so she will get back to me whenever I guess. What the hell does that mean? This is unacceptable!! I want my account credited now for $25.68! What kind of business is this? I would like the business owner to step in and fix this issue now please!

  • Katelyn A.

Quite surprised at how low the ratings are here. Although I have yet to dine here I've been here on a few different occasions for drinks and have always received good service. The atmosphere is fun, the spot well kept, good drinks and good music. They are a little pricey which is tough in a competitive area but I think their quality is worth the price.

If you want the whole 'Bartenders/Staff Being Rude' skit - go to 'Dicks Last Resort' down the street. They're at least funny about it. Do not go here. I came here as part of the 'happy hour' promotion with a bunch of my coworkers. As soon as we arrived the bartenders were clearly annoyed we had stamps on our hands and were using the "happy hour" drink rates. I like to feel like a guest at a restaurant, I do not like feeling like an annoyance. The staff rolled their eyes at us for taking too long to order, and when we asked questions about the food or what was in the drinks the bartender would shrug "I don't know". The reason we were asking was for allergy purposes, all servers and bartenders should know WHAT they are serving. Also one bartender was clearly misinformed of what the happy hour was because he told me "food doesn't count in the happy hour". All in all, my coworkers and I will not be returning.

  • Ariel Z.

Don't even bother with the food. We ordered some shot that was blue and surely contained curacao (everyone else there had them, too). So scrumptious...oh ma gahhd. Trendy, young crowd and a DJ spinning old-school tunes at the other end of the bar (not much dancing sadly). I was unexpectedly impressed with the ambiance. I almost felt like I was in a cantina set in the 1800s with all the wood details and iron candle chandeliers. A perfect stop on your bar-hopping adventure!

This reviews for this place are incredibly low. I'm unsure why. I enjoyed every minute--but I came on a Thursday evening. While the reviews make it appear as a haven for weekend bar brawls, I felt safe. I was in great company and we cozied up at the bar. Our bartender was reasonably inattentive. While this didn't bother me, it really irked my company. She reminded us repeatedly that she was cold, never really smiled, and forgot things. She seemed to be completely aloof to the fact that we were customers, BUT 1.) My tequila flight was $10. 2.) I'd had an incredibly long day at the airport. 3.) I loved the thinly shaved plantains. 4.) The corn was to die for! 5.) My tequila flight was $10. The above reasons made up for all of that. The place was sanitary, well built, and had and incredibly fresh take on Tex-Mex. (Don't talk yourself out of the Cheeseburger Taco. The "mustard sauce" on it is AWESOME. I know, I know...just trust me!) If you end up here, go with an open mind. I have to be honest--I'm glad we came!

Good margarita, decent service . We didn't stay for dinner because the nacho app was not good. What do they use for cheese? Some nasty fake velveeta?! No bueno. Use real cheese melted in oven and the nachos might be ok.

Came in expecting a Spanish vibe, turned out to be country music? If you're serving tequila than you may want to actually play Spanish music. Sincerely, An Añejo Drinker

The WORST. Steaming hot day and had to wait 15 mins for drinks with our kids. Everybody else got their drinks if you sit at the bar of course. I had to storm the bar and then a weak apology: something happened to the slip. Unbelievable. There are a million bars in here. I wish they go under soon.

Worst place to eat in next to Quincy market. Bad service, Bad food. We ordered just appetizers and it took them more than 40 mins to get our food. A total tourist trap. DO NOT EAT HERE.

  • P H.

Service was fine, tacos and quesadillas were good (both beef and chicken), nothing spectacular, but solid. The margaritas were stiff- occasionally too stiff (I mean I like the idea of more alcohol for the same price, but not when its no longer a margarita, but tequila on ice with a hint of margarita flavor.) So, overall not bad- and we were there on a Friday night from 6-9pm, busy but not horribly packed- not even full most of the time.

This place is terrible; explanation in just a moment. First, some suggestions in case you're looking for mexican and drinks and a better atmosphere: 1. Sunset Grill and Tap in Allston - hundreds of beers, delicious food, and reasonable pricing. Definitely head here at least once while you're in Boston if you're a visitor. As a resident of the Allston neighborhood, this is my go-to place for heaping plates of nachos and delicious, hard-to-find beers. Tables or bar, wait staff is always friendly and fast. Brighton Ave, Allston. 2. If you're really committed to staying downtown, go to Fajitas and 'Ritas Can be pretty crowded but you actually get to sit and are served pretty fast for how packed it usually is. West St near the Park Street Station. Now on to the reasons why I'm trying to direct you to other places and save you the headache at Mija: Mija is one of the few places I've seen around Boston that offers some sort of happy hour-style deal, which isn't common in these parts. However, their execution of said deal is absolutely terrible. You're supposed to get a $1 deal on tacos, $5 quesadillas, and special drink deals. You get these special deals by "winning" a "party" which is pretty much you receiving an email saying you're entitled to the deals and you do all their promotional work by inviting your friends. These deals are only given in the bar area which leads to the bar side being absolutely packed so one can barely move around; this fact is even more frustrating because there were plenty of open tables both times my friends received these parties. We (2 of us) arrived around 7 and the bar was packed. Our 6 friends who were already there were spaced out because they couldn't actually find space to be together. That's not much of a party atmosphere. We ordered 2 chicken and 4 beef tacos as soon as we got there, as well as two margaritas. The bartenders were pretty apathetic as a half hour, an hour, an hour and a half passed by and the tacos never manifested. At almost 9 pm, two chicken tacos (literally shredded chicken and some cheese - terrible!) appeared. The beef were no where in sight. We'd had enough and we left. The bartenders service is spotty and their attitudes are terrible. I'm a server, too. It is your job to serve with at least a smile. If your establishment is offering a deal and it's a busy night, you suck it up until you get home and then you complain about it to your boyfriend or your cat. Don't take it out on your customers. Mija, two suggestions: talk to your employees about interacting with customers and learn the value of offering happy-hour style deals throughout the entire establishment. Happy, comfortable customers will stay longer, spend more money, and leave better tips.

Okay, so yes, it was busy... but when you're waiting 15 minutes for the bartender (while at a seat at the bar) on a Sunday afternoon and only order two shots of tequila, I just thought it would go smoother. The shot glass he put in front of me was covered in lipstick. Ew. I don't want to drop another $25 here ever again... there are plenty of spots to belly up to for a quick shot and move on with SundayFunday.

We went to dinner here on a Tuesday night. It wasn't busy but our dinner took forever. With no apologies from any of the staff, it also took the waitress 20 minutes to bring is our check. While the food is great, I can't overlook terrible service on a slow night.

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. I went to Mijas last week to get a margarita after work with a friend. I was sipping on my margarita and then all of a sudden I felt something in my mouth and it was a shard of class. I immediately spit it out into my hand. My friend got the manager and he came over to which I showed him the piece of glass in my hand. He, however, did nothing for us. He apologized and asked if I was okay and then WALKED AWAY. He then returned about 10 minutes later asking if I wanted another drink, which I did not.He then proceeded to give me his business card offering me to call and come back whenever I wanted and that I could order some food and drinks and it will all be taken care of. As upset as i was, I was willing to accept the offer. This past Tuesday the same friend and an additional friend and I decided to take him up on his offer. I talked with the manager earlier telling him that I was coming in if his offer was still on the table and he said it was. We show up and the manager is there and he recognizes me and we get a seat right away. We then proceed to order some appetizers and drinks.(Heads up "empanadas" means ONE empanada). When we receive our bill, the manager only paid for the food and not for the drinks. Therefore I was not "taken care of" even in the slightest. It was all handled very poorly and I will definitely never step foot into Mijas again.

My girlfriend and I came here looking for a few impressive mixed drinks and a somewhat serene ambiance, and we found nothing of the sort. The margaritas on the menu ranged from $12 and up, but were small, weak, and lacking flavor. After sitting at the bar for about 20 minutes, a fight broke out behind us (at roughly 10pm) which knocked my girlfriend off her seat and almost caused her to fall down. The bouncer was involved in the pushing match, but interestingly, only one of the parties involved in the fight was removed from the establishment. At my dismay, we received no apologies from any of the staff members. Needless to say, we will not be coming back to Mija Cantina. You can add this to the long list of impending Faneuil Hall night-life business failures.

So I went last night for some birthday drinks and the margaritas were not good at all. The bartender put to much lime juice and my margarita was very bitter. I asked if she could fix my margarita and she game me a dirty look along with attitude. I won't be back again.

I/we stopped going here after my last experience. As a local i was going here but last time I racked up a 180 dollar tab and cashed out with the bartender leaving and then decided to stay and open another tab. What we got was a b*t@h face bartender who had the attitude of a neglected step child. Needless to say she ruined the whole experience for us there now me and my friends do not/will not go there. It only gets a two star because some of the food is good and the the guys working the bar are actually friendly.

Came here for a happy hour recently. $1 tacos sound like a great deal, but they're not very good. I couldn't tell whether I was eating chicken or beef, which is never a good thing. $4 margaritas also sound like a good deal, but you're basically drinking SUPER sweet sugar water with a splash of crap tequila. $4 can of Modelo Especial isn't *that* great of a deal, but I'll take it. The interior ambiance is actually quite nice and I think the space would be awesome in the summer when the big windows can open onto their patio. If I was REALLY craving Mexican over near Faneuil Hall, I'd consider coming back here again and trying some of their other food. Otherwise, there are better options in the area.

A friend of mine who works in the Financial District and lives in the suburbs (ugh) dragged me here for lunch once. I didn't want to be rude and tell my friend that she has shitty taste in food/ambiance, but this place really was a huge waste of money and calories. If you're dead inside and are ok with mindlessly shoveling bland forkfuls of burrito into your face, have at it. Or you could go to Herreras, Anna's, Villa Mexico, etc. and not want to slice your wrists during/after your meal. Christ, Boloco is a better choice than this place. At least the employees at Boloco aren't juiced up mouth-breathing mutes like our waiter was. This place is simply a classic tourist trap. I mean, come on guys, even the girl who just turned 21 and went to get hammered on pint glasses full of vodka cranberries wasn't impressed.

Ok guys, so i have been dying to go here for quite some time... but it was always so packed we could never get in. Finally got my chance the other weekend, but was HORRIBLY disappointed in the place. I was looking to taste some of the varieties of tequila they have and asked the bartender for her recommendation. She recommended the Corzo Anejo, which i have had before and really enjoyed. Now, i knew it was expensive, but was not aware it was $17 a shot expensive, nor were we ever told. But fine, i was looking to spend a little money so we ordered an appetizer- which never ended up being put in. The real kicker for us, the bartender eyeballed the pour and they were literally 2/3 a shot. I'm not a really big fan of complaining, and how are you going to say that you know what a shot feels like in your mouth and this pour was way under? When we asked for the bill after not getting our food only to see the price on our underpoured drinks, i knew it would be the first and last time i will go here. My money can be better spend elsewhere. Sorry guys, i would focus more on the customers and less on turning out maximum profit by short changing us. Edit/Update: since the manager responded 7 MONTHS after my post- no i have no idea if i wrote the above the same day i went there... It was 7 months ago! However i have never been back since and have convinced several people who were planning on going to avoid this place. Under pouring and short changing your customers is not cool guys.

Omg OMG omg! One word: horchata! Their horchata cocktail tastes just like the real thing (with a little alcoholic punch, of course). I was watching the severs make margaritas & they have a super heavy pour. They look amazing, actually. I'll def be back to try the margaritas & (of course) for more horchata!

I went to this Latin restaurant with a few friends for post dinner drinks and appetizers. It was a great spot! I loved the music and the vibe! The cocktail menu is excellent if you like margaritas. I tried a rich-a-Rita which was quite spicy with added jalapeños and also the watermelon mojito which was quick refreshing. I also had a couple glasses of Chardonnay. We split nachos but unfortunately my friend doesn't like beans so we ordered it without but there was much else on there but cheese and a few tomatoes. I would definitely go back especially for the music! If only there was a dance floor!

I promised my fiends I would come back on and review this place. It was not a good experience. Service was extremely slow. We didn't get everything we ordered. One of my friends cannot eat dairy and requested that her taco salad not include cheese or sour cream, it arrived with both. Thankfully they did replace it for her an they did do so fairly quickly. My other friend ordered a side of black beans and they smelled and tasted like cigarette ashes, one of the most bizarre and gross things I have ever experienced. I won't go back. :(.

Overall, a very mixed experience. I don't think I'll come back here unless someone I know gets another brunch or happy hour promotion. Even then, it would have to be a really nice deal. So this is what happened: my friend won a 'birthday brunch' where she got a meal for free, and everyone with her got half off one item on the brunch menu. I'm a vegetarian. If you've had the pleasure of getting food here, you may already know why this is a problem, because every item on the brunch menu except one included meat. The only thing that didn't was the huevos rancheros (vegans: take note). This was fine for me, because I like huevos rancheros. I was a little disappointed in the drinks menu, which didn't include hot tea or decaf coffee, but this is a tequilla bar, so whatever, right? We got our meals. I noticed something in my salsa that did not look like any vegetable I've ever seen. So I asked the waitress, who asked the cook, who informed her that the salsa contains pieces of bacon. The reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is that the waitress was extremely nice about the whole thing. Before I even asked, she took my plate back to the kitchen and asked them to make a vegetarian-friendly meal. My "remake" didn't take long at all, and I really appreciate that. It just surprises me that a place in Boston could not only have no vegetarian options, but also get away with putting bacon in the one item that doesn't list meat in the description. Maybe I should have asked, but who thinks to ask "excuse me, is there bacon in this salsa?" I certainly don't. At least the potatoes were good.

After being seated, we waited more than 10 minutes for a waiter to come over. There were only two other tables and the waiter came up to them several times. Ended up giving up and leaving. Terrible service!

For the food, 4 stars. Tasted great, but portions were a little small for the price you pay. For the service, 2.5 stars. The hostess was awkward and couldn't explain why she wouldn't seat us at one of the many empty tables in the restaurant. She said we had to wait 25 minutes and she would call us, and when we went up to her 30 minutes later, she was standing right in front of us calling us on the phone....Took way too long to even get a waitress over to take our orders, and even longer for the drinks and food to come out. Once we were ready for the check and put our cards down to pay, it was over 20 more minutes before the waitress came to take it. Keep in mind, the restaurant was not more than half full at any point during our meal. The food and drinks were pretty good, but the service alone is enough to make me think twice about coming here again.

Horrific service would have been better than what we got. Hair in my salsa. No tequila in the $12 'Classic Rita'. It's a tourist trap, and nothing else. The bartender that we had was very unpersonable and not trained - in a place with this kind of volume and location, professional bartenders should be required. Door guy was very nice. Service was quick. But steer clear of this place. I would consider giving this place another try, if it wasn't so expensive for the lousy everything.

A restaurant that solely makes its money by attracting tourists. I came here with a couple of my friends for lunch on July 4th and aside from being able to sit in the patio area and being able to people watch, everything was bad. For starters, although they give complimentary chips and salsa, they won't actually physically give it to you unless you say, "I want free chips and salsa." We ordered nachos and some tacos to split among us. When the food came out, the nachos were cold and looked as if it had been sitting on the counter for about five to ten minutes. The cheese had already hardened onto the chips. We tried to suck it up and eat it anyways but after a few bites, we asked the waitress to send it back. The waitress smiled and was like, "sure, it'll be a few minutes." Literally it took her a total of five minutes to take it back, order a new one, wait for a new one to be made, and then bring it back out to us. Some would say this was impressive. However, we noticed that a lot of the side chips were burnt and that what they actually did was put some chips above our previous cold order, tossed some extra toppings (cheese, tomatoes, beans, etc.) and threw it back in the oven for a few mins. This was not impressive and we grudgingly ate a few of the top chips and let the rest go to waste. The tacos were decent but one of my friends had asked for salsa on the side and the waitress literally disappeared after she heard our request and didn't come back with it until 20 mins later. If you want a nice place to people watch in Faneuil Hall, I would recommend this place. Just be sure to not order any food because it probably won't be edible.

Bland bland bland. Come on, where's the spice! I ordered 2 tacos, 1 came very raw, the other had no flavor at all. My wife ordered the queso and again, just bland. The waitress on the other hand was awesome, wish I could remember her name but she gave me a free beer after they poured two by accident which is the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars.

Wow. This restaurant just blew my mind... in the worst way possible. Our waitress provided us with the worst service I have ever encountered last night. (You will probably read the word "worst" in this review many times btw). I do not expect any servers to be at our beck and call, nor do I expect them to be at our table 24/7, but I do expect to at least see them every so often. I am pretty sure she was MIA for most of our dinner. I am not sure what she was doing, but it clearly wasn't her job. I came last night for a birthday party in a group of 13 people. I know large groups can sometimes be hard to accommodate, so we sat outside under the "space heaters," which weren't even on for most of the time so I was freezing cold. This restaurant boasts upon its tequila, and being right in Quincy Market on a Saturday night, they should assume that people are there to drink and have a good time. While our waitress was somewhat friendly, she was possibly the slowest person in the world. It took about 15 minutes for her to come around and get my drink order, in which I ordered a "Bleacher Creature" drink (Grey Goose Orange, Midori, Blue Curacao, and OJ). I also ordered a water. Since we had already been waiting so long just to order drinks, I asked if I could place my food order. For some reason our waitress objected to this and said she would come back later and then take everyone's food order at the same time. It sort of made sense, but all I wanted was an appetizer, and I was starving. I also wanted to just say to her, "Take my food order now because I know you're not going to come back for another 15 minutes." PSYCHIC. Our waitress came back 15 minutes later and she forgot the waters. She finally took down our orders and I reminded her that I wanted a glass of water. "Oh yeah, I remember you had asked me." was her response. The drink that I got tasted like cheap well liquor. I can't believe it was $12 for that drink. I also ordered a house margarita later on in the night and that came out to $13... It was absolutely overpriced. Normally I don't mind paying $13 for a drink if it tastes good, but this was an absolute rip off considering they probably served me crappy well-liquor. Our food came, served by a different person, and it was just okay. The nachos weren't the best I've had, and they did come in a much smaller portion than most places. They put the smallest dollop of guacamole on it. I also got the beef quesadilla, which was smothered in grease and definitely not worth $12. They also brought out two soups, when our table only ordered one, and they kept insisting that we ordered two. Finally our waitress came back around and she said she would take one soup off of our bill at the end. At that point, I still did not get any water. My friend at the table had to physically get up and go to the bar to get a few glasses of water and bring them back. Also, half of our table kept getting up to get drinks because our waitress was excruciatingly slow. I feel like she probably knew she was already going to get an automatic tip since we had a large party, so she didn't care whether or not she gave us good service. I was so infuriated at that point. At the end, of course our waitress forgot to take off one of the soups on the bill. She also automatically received a 20% tip, which I think it absurd considering our final bill was around $500. She basically got a huge tip for not doing anything. Sadly this place has so much potential. It has one of the best locations in Boston and they play good music. I will never be back though, and will recommend against going here to anyone who asks.

The WORST bar I have ever been to, by far. The hostesses were VERY rude and unhelpful to my friend and me, the drinks were gross and so watered down AND pricey, and the food was disgusting. Do NOT go here!! There are plenty of much much better bars in the area like Sissy Ks down the street

I went Mija's quincy market location on 8/7/13 some time between 2 and 4pm. It was my friends birthday. We sat at the bar. The bartender was horrible. being in the restaurant business my self i could not believe how much money she was losing in tips. The only thing that she had going for her self is that she was young and cute. The puss on her face ruin that for her. I got a basic drink which was fine. my friend got a rita which was good too. The bartender never came back to see if we wanted another drink. I had to get up and walk over to the back side of the bar to get her attention. I was pissed by then and just got the check. couple of other people came to the bar (which was almost empty) she never smiled or spoke to the people she would just go to the back side of the bar to talk with other employees. I guess what i am trying to say is that she sucked and needs a lot of training. working the bar is more then just making drinks.

I really like the concept of Mija (tequila/Mexican- I can never get enough of these places), however the service was really lacking and made the dining experience pretty dismal. We ordered 4 items total, one of which was completely forgotten by the kitchen or waitstaff and never brought to us, and the other was not what we ordered. The food took forever to come out, so long in fact that we assumed the order had been forgotten again and just asked for the check as we did not want to wait any longer. The food that we did get was pretty good, nothing spectacular. Mija cannot really hold up against Lolita or Tico.

I work near Faneuil Hall and stopped in to Mija's for some take out. I got a couple of Mahi Mahi tacos and, as anyone who is not from Boston will appreciate, they were grilled rather than breaded and fried [really Boston?]. Sadly, they were doused in some kind of mayo and garnished with wilted lettuce and the fish was overcooked. 5 bucks each. Enjoy.

Drinks are delicious but not strong enough for tequila lovers! Last time I went we split the guacamole appetizer which was great. I had two soft tacos- one chicken and one zucchini. The zucchini one was very sad and I had to add some guac from my appetizer to fill it. Slightly disappointed this time.

It is surprising to see that the managers/owners of this restaurant haven't fixed their inadequacies in almost one year. I called the restaurant early in the afternoon yesterday to ask if I needed to make a reservation if I arrived around 6pm. The person on the phone was very nice and told me it shouldn't be a problem. We arrived at 6:05pm and the hostess was unpleasant and told us that they had too many resevervations for the evening and seating was only available outside on the patio. We live far away and came to try this restaurant so we agreed to go to the patio even though it was very cold and we weren't dressed warm enough. The waitress took our order for appetizers. She delivered our appetizers and walked away leaving us without silverware, napkins and small plates. When she returned, she was very apologetic and went to get us our utensils. It wouldn't have been so bad if we were served in a timely fashion. We were served our main course over an hour later with the excuse that the kitchen was very busy. A few other large parties were seated after us and got up and walked out because it was too cold! FInally, the third party that was seated at the same table behind us was moved inside. The entire time we were there, the inside of the restaurant went from empty to maybe half full! The manager pulled down a few plastic protectors which kicked up the wind and made our table even colder. They didn't turn the lights on until at least a half hour after it turned dark. I didn't realize how cold I was until we got up to leave. I woke up this morning with body aches and neck pain from sitting out in the cold so long!! The margarita was not the best and the food was average. It seems that the management does not care to improve the situation maybe because they feel that most of their customers are tourists and therefore won't be returning anyway. If they cared about the local visitors that might return, you would think they would have handled their problems by now!

Do not waste your money. Only thing good is the location. That's it. Their operation needs some polishing. Can't get orders right, can't do simple drinks right. Terrible margaritas, very terrible. It's so awful I decided to rate this place at my table before finishing. If I could rate negative stars I would. Spend your money elsewhere!

I heard a rumor that elsewhere in the city happy hour was being had, however, on Thursday at Mija, it was most definitely an hour of sorrow. 1 dollar chicken and beef tacos that were so dry I expected them to come with a dish of tumbleweeds instead of a small clump of rice. 4 dollar margaritas tasted like an alcohol free sweet lime juice and were so full of ice I couldn't get enough liquid to wash down the parched meat. I wish I could call the experience a fluke but I've visited this food desert before and I won't be fooled again by the tequila oasis shimmering in the distance. Adios Mija.

Don't go here. Okay? Just don't. Perhaps my friends and I just happened to have a bad experience but to me it seemed like the hostess was unprofessional (after taking my number to, I'm assuming, call me once a table was available, she then commented that she really wanted my number to "sext" me later...seriously), the wait staff was untrained/unknowledgable, the bar tender couldn't make a standard margarita to save his life and the owner (yes, we ended up speaking with the owner who was a young 20/30 something) didn't have a convincing case to counter our complaints (rather than just apologize for our experience he went on to tell us his sob story about how hard it was to get this restaurant off the ground). For a restaurant with such a prime location, outdoor seating, a seemingly enticing menu, I think the owner and manager are running the restaurant very poorly. Our waitress couldn't answer basic questions about the menu, what was in the tacos, could my friend (who doesn't eat meat) order a quesedilla with certain vegetables etc etc. It took over twenty minutes to get our drinks and when they finally came (note that we all ordered a basic margarita on the rocks with salt) they all came tasting different, some with salt, some without, the flavor and mix of the drink was all over the place. My boyfriend's rum and tonic was missing the rum too. We looked at each other like, are we really here? Is this really happening? Can we just get a drink please?! The waitress who served our table we actually heard semi-arguing with another waitress who thought our area was her territory but that she wanted to serve us because she took our drink orders over in the bar area while we were waiting to be seated. The only positive here was that the food wasn't bad...it was, dare I say, tasty. But as well all know, the biggest thing people go out to eat for is the experience, the atmosphere and the service. All three of those things were increditbly lacking here. The other postiive was after debating with the manager for a good ten minutes he did offer to cut our bill in half (which we didn't ask for) as our main objective in speaking with him was to just share our frustrations so he could try to make some changes to the way things operated. It was nice of him to accomodate us that way. He could have easily saved his breath and money though, and just apologized.

Cool atmosphere, but the food was just so-so... I've been there twice, and was extremely underwhelmed by the food the first time. Went back a second time and had a better experience, but still nothing to write home about. Careful if they trick you into one of those free "after work special" promotions.. The tacos you get with the promo don't even have cheese, tomato, sour cream, etc.. You get beef in soft taco, that's it. I'd rather foot the bill for a REAL taco than eat mediocre half filled tacos. Great sangria, if nothing else.

First let me state that in order for me to sign up with any website to post a bad review, it has to be a horrible experience beyond belief! and to say the least that is what happened at Mija on 2/2/2012 with a server named Melissa. Me and my friend went there to order something for PICK UP and we waited there until it was ready instead of going back to pick up or placing the order over the phone. When this server gave us the food in a brown bag my friend checked to make sure we were given napkins and spoon/forks. My friend realized that we weren't given neither one so she asked me to ask the server for forks as we had napkins back where we were gonna eat the food. When I asked the server if I could have a fork PLEASE? her answer was that Mija doesn't give utensils for take out!!!!!!!!!! I was shocked! we headed for the door and I asked another server if I could please have a fork and she headed for the kitchen and got us a fork and napkins. I went back to see Melissa and told her that what was I supposed to eat with? my hands? her answer was "I don't know. Maybe". I couldn't believe what I was hearing!!! As this is in Quincy market and there are a few other eating places her recommendation was that i go around and ask for a fork!!! (she didn't know that the other server had the decency to get us a fork already!). After telling us to go ask around she had the nerve to walk away!! There was no apology, no I am sorry, no nothing!! a total disregard of two customer that were asking for a fork NOTHING MORE!! I have never been to a place and treated this way and I ask that Yelp users think about this experience that I am sharing and think twice before helping this place stay in business! I will proceed to complain with the managers/owners of that restaurant to let them know of this horrible experience I had. and by the way this happened at about 4pm!! there was almost no one in that place! No need for this server to put us through this! what a shame!

i didn't have the awful service most yelpers are writing about, but i also went at 2pm on a sunday. the grilled fish tacos were great and the guacamole fresh. the chips seemed a little stale, but overall a good experience--my roommate and i were stuffed for a little over 30 bucks. i'll definitely come back for the tacos and probably some cocktails to accompany! hopefully mija can get its service up to par because the fish tacos rock.

This is the first time I've ever written a review on yelp, but I could not help myself this time...my purse was stolen by an employee of the bar. We discovered this when my purse was retrieved from the trash in the mens bathroom. My friend was dj'ing, which is why I went in the first place, but the staff decided to take advantage of their patrons. When we caught on it was too late and we were thrown out of the bar. I retrieved my purse nd all items were accounted for minus my iPhone. Something shady is going on here and ive hd enough!

Desperate for a place to just sit and eat, we came upon Mija. Looking at the menu, the prices and food choices didn't seem bad at all. I don't have any complaints for the service as our waitress was very attentive and checked up on us at regular intervals. I got a Rich a Rita margarita which was okay though I didn't think it worth getting at the price it was. I ordered the corn/lobster bisque as a starter and shared an order of fried calamari. the bisque was only okay. The only lobster in it was a chunk of overcooked lobster claw meat which was tasteless in the bisque. The corn flavor was there but still very bland overall. The calamari was pretty good and I loved the bean dip that came with it. The breading was crisp and not overly oily. For my main course, I got 2 tacos, the chicken and carnitas. The portion was just as I expected a taco to be. The chicken taco tasted decent with avocado and some salsa. I was expecting more from the carnitas taco though. The waitress had recommended it but I thought the jalepeno was just overpowering and left a bitter taste. It probably would have been better if there was sour cream on the side. It did come with a side of rice and black beans but the beans were bland and just not good. Overall, the food was not really worth it and with all the other restaurants around, I won't be back here again.

Beautifully done inside, lots of pretty faces diners and staff. sadly, tequila list is short for a "cantina" and at a minimum of $10 a Margarita, well lets just say there was no 'rita' in it to salvage the situation. Watered down, too much ice...Short rib tacos tasted a week old, fish tacos needed lemon to be edible. Microwaved soft tortillas at $5 EACH makes Ken Oringer's joint La Verdad seem like a bargain (b/c at least while a bit overpriced, all his tacos etc..deliver. The $3 fish taco @ Dorado in Brookline is as close as you're gonna get to San Diegan style light battered fresh fish w/ a decent crema. point is, don;t waste your money @ this place and look for something else in the space next year. And just to drive the point home, yes it;s $5 for each small taco that you would get anywhere else better (including Anna's Taqueria or Boca Grande). Tourists and staf stalking perverts might keep the place alive for a bit longer, but look for a new biz next year.

Drinks are good. Food is good and priced like any place in Fan Hall, so not sure why everyone complains about the prices - they must not get out enough. What really brings this place down is the service. Bartenders will ignore you unless you're friends with them or the owner. Wait staff is even worse. Have sat down to eat twice - first time had to wait 30 minutes for a bottle of Corona, second time we didn't receive utensils or plates to eat our apps with. I actually had to go find them myself as the waiter didn't come back until 20 minutes after we had asked for them. I wouldn't go here again based on the service.

I saw Mija for the first time last week and I wanted to try it right away. The restaurant is beautiful, the ambiance is great and its something different than what you would normally see in Fanueuil Hall. However, my experience there was nearly what I expected it to be. I went there with my sister and my friend who just got out of work. We went on a Wednesday evening so it was in no way busy. Our waiter was absolutely great!! she was excited, eager and very informed about the food menu and drink menu. She was however, the only good part about our experience there. Since we weren't that hungry we decided on an appetizer and drinks. We ordered the appetizer trio, a white sangria, a raspberry margarita and a frozen watermelon berry cooler. The appetizer came out within a few minutes of ordering, however it was incorrect. They gave us the salsa trio instead. When we told our waitress, she corrected it. However, it did take a while. Our drinks came out about 45 minutes later. By the time the drinks came, we were done with our appetizer and didn't really want to drink anymore. When the drinks did come they were NOT good. The berry margarita tasted like straight tequila and they did not put sugar on the rim which was requested. The frozen berry cooler was NOT frozen and was simply over ice. The sangria tasted like it was straight lime juice with no mango, peach or wine! When we notified the waitress about the sangria she brought out another. however, it tasted the same. She informed us that it tasted that way because it was at the bottom of the mix. To me, that is not an excuse. They should have said that they were out and I could have ordered another drink. She didn't charge me for the sangria but at this point the experience was a disaster. The waitress did whatever she could do make our experience enjoyable, but after messing up all 3 drinks and our appetizer, it just wasn't possible. I do intend on trying this place again but not in near future. It is a new place and the bartenders are trying to get settled.

I am giving Mija two stars because it is a fun location, but that is pretty much it. I went on Friday evening for cocktails and dinner with a few of my girlfriends. Thankfully we had a reservation which we needed. This place was overrun with what looked like college students and a few very young professionals. The service was slow and below average.... I had to ask for a glass of water three times. The server also seemed confused by my order of tequila, which is what they supposedly specialize in. I drink mine on the rocks and didn't get a straw (any good bartender knows that if it's on the rocks it gets a straw, period). The waitstaff was very young, all female, and all in mini skirts.... I can't help but wonder if that is their choice or management's, as I used to wait tables and wouldn't have found that to be very practical myself. The decor was great and the tequila selection was also great. The food was very average (we had nachos and quesadillas), certainly fine for tex-mex but not amazing. As it was a nice evening the windows were open and we were able to sit outside which was also nice. However, the tables were so close together that my friends and I were repeatedly bumped into by the staff and other patrons throughout our meal. Inside, it was so loud that it was hard to speak to each other. I would recommend this place to a young male friend as the patrons were mostly female, but otherwise I would not recommend it, and I will not be going again. Too bad because I love Mexican, love tequila and the decor was really nice.

probably the WORST meal i have ever had, ever. my husband and i spent the day shopping in fanueil hall & wanted to grab a late lunch before our flight back to florida. it looked like a cool place to sit outside and people watch, not to mention we love mexican food. long story short, everything was awful about this place. the mojito was bad,the queso was watery, the mussels smelled like they have been rotting in the sun for 3 days and they managed to screw up a chicken quesadilla which is one of the easiest things to make. the staff was uppity and rude and our waitress who had one other table acted like she had 10 other tables and never came by to check on us. i had to flag her down to get the check. when she noticed that we barely touched our food, she didnt bother asking if we liked it or was there a problem, she just cleared it, as if she knew it sucked. i never complain about food or service but i was appalled and very disappointed by this place. i would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

Only reviewing on the bar. Ordered "a margarita" the bartender didn't ask me to specify. When she made a $16 margarita, and I apologized, stating that I wanted the happy hour special margarita, she got very mad. She told us "we have a lot of margaritas" and made us a drink without any tequila. She then charged us a dollar too much. Overall disappointed.

Terrible place, I was there for a couple drinks one evening and the blonde bartender was very rude, demanding that I tip her while I was still sitting in the bar. Manager was a rookie, unprofessional.... Much better places in the area ...

I love Tacos and the ones at Mija were not up to my taco standards. Dont get my wrong the shrimp and pork tacos were on point but the fish tacos (my favorite kind) were drenched in batter and too heavy for my liking. The cocktails are decent-- i got a spicy watermelon margarita and it was decent-- nothing to brag about. the Outside seating is ideal and fantastic in the summer. Overall this place is decent. not exceptional

Came here for dinner last night. Service is average but food was way better than we were expecting!! Margaritas were decently strong, I was able to make mine spicy and it was delicious. I got three tacos; the chicken tacos were aaaamazing and the veggie taco was good but not as good as the chicken. My Boyfriend ordered the ribeye and it was perfectly cooked. We will be back for food!

I ate with a group of people here last Thursday and we all immediately got sick! We had the steak nachos, grilled fish tacos, and chips and guacamole. We are not sure exactly what made everyone sick, but everyone should think twice before you eat there.

we were quite pleasantly surprised by our experience at mija. not that we'd read any reviews beforehand, or had prior experience - but there it was in the midst of fanueil hall where everything is over-hyped and overpriced, usually accompanied by sub par quality. plus, we're from austin where there is pretty awesome tex-mex on every corner, kinda like dunkin donuts in boston. but we found ourselves down there and hungry so decided to have a late lunch at mija. our server was friendly and the bartender was generous (the one cocktail we tasted packed a punch). we ordered a variety of tacos - the mahi and the braised short rib being our favorites. they were fresh and flavorful, and about $4 or $5 a piece - which seems reasonable considering the quality, and the fact that we were in tourist-trap central. our son, who prides himself on his tolerance for ultra spicy foods, ordered the wings. our sweet waitress gently advised him "umm, they're _really_ hot", which my son playfully laughed off with all the bravado of a teenage boy. after all, we're from texas! we eat spicy for breakfast! well, i will sum up his experience with his own words: "i'm not very religious, but if there was a time i needed god, it'd be right now." and then, picking up his next wing: "this one's for samuel adams, american patriot!" - he worked his way through every last one - couldn't stop himself despite the intense heat because he said they were so flavorful. so there you have it. i might not go out of my way to get here - it's a hike from austin - but if i happened to be down around fanueil hall feeling hungry, i wouldn't hesitate to return.

I only had drinks, but the margarita I ordered was not potable. It tasted like someone opened a salt shaker and dumped it in! In addition, the server was very rude. I asked to order a margarita without the "garnish," and she immediately walked over to another server and began complaining about what an inconvenience I was and they had a good laugh at my expense. I have worked in the service industry long enough to know you walk into another room before you start blasting your customers. Won't be back, even if I come to Boston again!

A great place for drinks. Yes its touristy, but that is part of the appeal. You can sit back and watch the world (i.e. middle America on vacation in all its splendor ) walk by. Our server was cheerful, friendly and helpful, despite our telling her at the outset we were there only for drinks. The young hostess, on the other hand, was overwhelmed (it was her first day and yes it was tourist season) and had trouble answering basic questions such as "is someone going to clean that table?'. We didn't try food, but my wife really enjoyed the jalapeno margarita (which is all the rage in SoCal); it wasn't on the menu, but our server talked the bartender into giving it a try). Thanks to the server and thanks to the bartender for a great experience.

Why the low rating? Because the waitress lied to us that they weren't serving food anymore when they clearly were!!!! I kept seeing food coming out so we asked another waiter if they were still serving food and he said yes. Got the nachos and taquitos ($9 for both!!). They were really good.... or maybe we were just too hungry. Also got some drinks which are on the pricier side... Won't be back here anytime soon

The employees at this place are individually great, but they are lack communication with each other. The bouncer checked our IDs even though it was dinner time and a lot of families there. Then the hostess told us there was a 20 minute wait to sit outside for drinks, even though there were a ton empty tables. So we went to bar and within 2 minutes our table was ready. Then we couldn't transfer our check to the table so, we had to wait to close out. We went to our table with our full drinks and the server asks us what we wanted as drinks. Then when we got the check none of the drink prices made sense. This place has great employees and great drinks, but they would benefit from a meeting before their shifts. Another reviewer said the bathrooms smelled horrible a week ago. They still smell.

Came here on a very hot humid summer day. Our group opted to sit inside for the AC, however it must have been broken since it felt just as hot inside as it did outside! We ordered a few apps, and different tacos. A few of us ordered drinks. The drinks were fine, but they weren't anything great or amazing. Just decent. The food was ok. The appetizer, queso fundido was my favorite thing, and would be the only thing I'd come back for. It was very flavorful and went nicely with the chips that came with guacamole. The guacamole was very overpriced for the amount you got. The chimichanga was huge, but nothing stood out from the taste. The Carnita taco was not a favorite. It tasted off with the spices used. Not a good balance of flavor with the pork and spices. The Chorizo and Potato taco was good, but it was over cooked. It was much better than the carnita taco by a landslide. The roasted portobello mushroom taco was just ok. Again, nothing stood out from it. The service was great, our waitress was awesome. The food is nothing to write home about. So if you'd like to sweat during your entire meal with less than average food with good service, this is your place. As for me, I highly doubt I'll be coming back.

For me this is another one of those location, location location places. It looks great on the inside and really draws you in but it lacks the goods that keeps you there for longer than an hour. Mija is known among the undergrad and grad students as the place you can always get happy hour parties free for your friends. While they are a great deal for the student who lacks funds and likes the Fanueil hall area, they drinks aren't anything special. What this place will do for you is provide a crowded environment to hang with friends. You will get spilled on, probably not get a buzz and spend a bit of money before the night is out. If you're going to meet up with friends in the winter, grab a taco and then leave within an hour, this really isn't a bad spot. Otherwise like many people have suggested their staffs manners are less than appealing and about an hour of it is all I can handle.

Can I say that I LOVE tequila ! The fact that they carry Herradura Tequila gives the 4 stars to me ( my absolute favorite) !! We stopped for a drink and stayed for over an hour watching the game and sipping tequila. Loved it! We didn't eat, my revue is solely based on the tequila choices, which they had many. We also tried the Corzo Anejo tequila that our bartender recommended, great tequila but VERY expensive ( $17 per shot). WON'T be ordering that again any time soon!! I'll get a bottle and drink it at home with friends.

I'm surprised at the low star average. I've been here twice, once to watch a Bruins game with friends and the other time after work with co-workers. The food and drinks have been consistently good (except a little too salty). The staff is great: friendly efficient and attentive. The only drawback is that the background music is a little too loud for conversation.

This place fits the bill of the overpriced Faneuil Hall trap. The service is so so, not the worst, but their intense lack of concern for the customer, and deep focus on running their business is so transparent that is sucks. There are no fools in this world, who would believe that the sole purpose of a business is to satisfy a customer, at best customer satisfaction and profitability are perfectly balanced, 50/50 - but here, there was no focus on customer satisfaction. First, the compliments: Their bartenders were fast. The Tacos were good. Now for the rest. The restaurant runs a "raffle" on the weekends for a chance to win an after-work party on a friday night where apps are half-off and $2 beers, and $4 margaritas are available. The thing is, everyone "wins" it's an up-sell promotion - you think you won something, it's really just another draw. In order to enter the premises on a Friday night, you are made to sign up for this promotion - so you'll get an email or a call or two. So - the $4 margaritas are significantly under-strength, and are obviously different from their house margaritas. Also, I was misinformed several times as to which beers were being promoted for the $2 draft, so was incidentally overcharged for my drinks - I had to argue with the manager in regards to this and got nowhere. Regardless, the place was impersonable, the deal drinks were underpar even for deal drinks, and the rest overpriced. Look I know that Faneuil Hall has a huge rent, and you have to be a certain kind of business to establish yourself there, but customers should be able to expect more from a place in the Quincy Market area in order to bring their business to the area.

Good bar service. Don't bother getting a table. We put a name in for 6 and within 20 minutes we saw 3 tables for 6 get seated

This place seems nice, but is probably best for drinks and apps. The salsa, quest and guac were all delicious (although the guac was a little oxidized). The chicken mole I got was ok, but they have me another piece of "chicken" that, at best looked like a crushed up leg fried for several hours too long. The waitress agreed that it looked nothing like chicken, but didn't offer to do anything about it. The sangria pitcher was giant but was pretty weak. Most of the tortilla chips were overdone as well.

Just had a solid round of tacos and sides here. Don't understand why so many poor reviews cuz it was tasty, the beer was cold and the service quick and nice. Grilled fish taco was super and grilled corn was literally to die for. Just happened by this place while visiting in town. Definitely recommend and will personally be back next time we are in Boston.

I enjoyed my visit here while visiting Boston. The margaritas were tasty, although a little watered down and $12... the service was attentive and it had a good vibe and good people watching!

This place is typical for the tourist neighborhoods in a big city; it's expensive, the service is medicore, and the food was not much better than okay. That said, the cocktails are great and the selection of beer, wine, and liquor is solid. My suggestion? Stop in for a few drinks and people watching, but walk to the North End if you want a good meal.

I don't know what's up with all the negative reviews...? Went to Mija on the night of a Stanley Cup Bruins game. Got seated right away, got accommodated over to another seat closer to a TV right after that, all while newly converted diehard hockey fans watched (and pretended to watch). The food was great, margaritas were super strong, and the waitress was cute, sweet, and attentive. The only negative hit was the watermelon margarita, which bore too much resemblance to cough syrup, but I was sufficiently tequila'd by that point to really know the difference. Great vibe, super upbeat, and the food was also really good. It may not be the most mexican-authentic tastes, but for a Faneuil Hall joint that has good food, service, and pricing, it's a good sell on a weekend when you want to drink and have some fun.

Went here with a friend, after a long day of work. We came a little after ten pm and kitchen was closed. Since I was really hungry, asked if they can just serve apps. Out came nachos and I was happy! Would have been nice if it comes with meat! Their drinks are wicked strong, their music is better then underbar on thursday nights! Love my bartender!!! A star for him, cause he shared his sour patch kids with me! :p I'd def come back! Btw they have lots of tv and it's on sports channel.

The bartenders and staff seem like pretty nice people, so that's why They earned an extra star. Otherwise, this place could definitely go through some changes. Everything is super expensive! I got a piña colada and it is fifteen bucks for a regular sized one. Worse part is, I barely tasted any alcohol in the drink. I feel like for fifteen dollars, it should have gotten me buzzed a bit. It was a good drink, though. It just tasted like a Virgin drink to me. I went here on a Saturday night with some friends and the environment was pretty chill. Good looking people, nice variety of music, and some dancing in the back. If the place wasn't so expensive, I'd come here more often.

Came here a few times for drinks, and that is mainly the only reason I would go here. The drinks are yummy and the atmosphere is great. I had gone on a night with a DJ and the music was great. I will say the menu was so so... The outdoor seating is great, at night its a great people watching area. My favorite part was the bartender I had. I think her name is Ciara? She was helpful when I was trying to choose my drink of choice. I don't drink margaritas all that often so her expertise was helpful! She was super friendly and made the night enjoyable, as I was always able to get a drink. The one thing I will say is that the stairs to the bathroom are SUPER steep. BE CAREFUL You could fall. Other than that I have no complaints.

Updated review: after 3 years of living in Boston, MIJA continues to be one of my favorite places! If you're looking for something special in downtown Faneuil Hall, MIJA is the place to be. Their signature margaritas are strong, they offer a menu with over 500 tequilas, and everything from their guacamole to the vegetarian quesadillas to the shrimp taco and short rib enchilada are on point. I love the baja spin MIJA puts on their food. The bar is always crowded, the TVs are playing all the games, the servers are friendly and attentive, and the food will satisfy. A must try for sure!

Tequila. Tequila. And...tequila. This is why you should come here. The ambience has that "ooo la la" Latin flavah but doesn't seem to attract the right crowd. I blame the location completely because if this was somewhere else, I guarantee there would be less 21st birthday shenanigans going on here. The drinks are "Boston-priced" but the variety is pretty incredible. Food tastes sort of meh but the cocktails are really what take the cake here. A lot of potential but then again, I heard they were filming some scenes from "Single in Southie" or something of that sort... final determination tbd.

Ehhhhhhh no. Spent $23 on a small quesadilla that was not flavorful and a less than adequate margarita. This was back in 2011...so maybe they've stepped their game up since then. Who knows? I wasn't impressed enough to return.

Came for the patio and to grab a bite on a double-date with some friends. The patio, decor, and service were all fine. Great, even. There's not an abundance of patio seating in Boston, so you have to cherish the places at which it's even possible to sit outside. The drinks were also good! A pitcher of sangria is $32, which you might expect nets you 3-4 drinks: but you get probably 6-8 drinks out of it (read: we got unexpectedly sloshed), so it's a good value. They have a great tequila selection as well. Food was just not good. Everything tasted about the same, my burrito was spicy, the quesadillas were spicy, tacos were spicy. Yep, everything was spicy. I think they use jalapeño to cover up the lack of creativity and actual flavor. It was edible, but it gave me some horrible heartburn that kept me up all night. For $15, the burrito was also tiny with tiny sides. Overall disappointing food, but luckily the ambiance and sangria made up for it and we had a fun night. Definitely not eating here again, but I'd come back for the patio and the sangria with the right crowd on a nice summer evening. It's just a shame the food's not better--it's not like it would be hard to pull it off.

Only came for drinks. First the good. Katie our server was really nice. Now the not so good. Everything else. Expensive drinks with no alcohol. Tried 6 different drinks. Maybe one shot in all 6. Got extra shots and not even those were straight. But Katie is nice. BTW, pretty loud as well.

I've been to Mija twice now - can't say I love it. For lunch the food wasn't bad at all but the service was pretty awful. It took probaly 15 minutes for our waitress to even take our drink orders and from there it didn't get any more impressive. The second time was for discounted drinks and half priced appetizers. The $4 Margaritas tasked like they were straight sour mix and the tacos were so-so.. but for a discount I guess you can't really complain right? The two stars are for the atmosphere and the crowd. I feel like if I came here for a few drinks at night it could be decent time.

I don't care if everyone "wins" a free after-party; how can you beat a no-cover entry? You can't. If you're on a budget and living in Boston, simply enter and get the discount night. It's hard to poo-poo discount drinks and food. Also, they make AMAZING fish tacos. The have a Mahi-Mahi taco with dijon cilantro. The mustard helps to curb any tang that basic cilantro has. It rocks! Every hostess I've ever encountered has been welcoming and sweet. I can't stand a snooty waitress and Mija has found the right people to represent them. Faneuil Hall is meant to attract tourists, so heightened prices are part of the deal anywhere in that area. This is why you enter the after-party raffle. Mija has made eating and drinking in Boston late-night an easier feat and I'm glad they're around! :)

My girlfriend, a friend of hers and myself went on a Saturday night last week and we had a decent time. The margaritas were a decent size and were good but expect to pay around $12 for one. We each got tacos and for $4-$5 a piece it was a pretty good deal. The atmosphere was nice, but I can see it getting rowdy at times. I would recommend going on a day/night that you wouldn't expect a crowd since the place is small and gets crowded easily. Also, if you an out of state ID, prepare to have the guy at the door bend the crap out of it.

Another amazing meal. We got the lobster salad special to start. Paired with chips, salsa and guacamole it was perfect. We then went surf and turf. I got the swordfish and my wife got the ribeye. Both were cooked perfectly and along with the fries and aeoli (which was the least notable of the meal) we were surprised to be swept away by the corn on the cobb side that was coated with some kind of wonderful. Whatever this chef is doing I hope he keeps on doing it because the food here is innovative and remarkably good. Not to overshadow the spot-on wait staff. The service here is just as great as the food. Gotta check out Mija!!!

I read through some of the reviews and was surprised to see what people had posted. Its amazing that people spend so much time drafting a horrible review instead of giving an establishment an opportunity to correct it properly. It would probably take less time to fix then writing the yelp review took. That being said, it looks like things have improved since Mija's opening, I was in there on Thursday after work and it was packed. From the Chips and Salsa to the Margarita I had served to me by my bartender Jess everything was great. She recommended the Tamale which I hadn't tried anywhere before so I gave it a go. Glad I did! It was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned. I work in the area and we usually go to another mexican spot in the seaport for happy hour on Thu and Fri. The service and food was awesome!! Now that I've given Mija a chance I'll be going there more frequently for my happy hours!! Keep up the good work.

The problem with this restaurant appears to be the front of the house staff, and specifically the hostess who is supposedly in charge of seating people and/or directing them to where they ought to go. I have never in my life been treated with such attitude and rudeness by a hostess at any restaurant, and I have to say--if the manager was male and hired her because she's cute and 20-something, well--let's hope you're getting some side action from that, buddy, because she is currently in the process of destroying your restaurant's reputation. We had called ahead to let them know that participants in the Flash Mob would be coming. Evidently, she was not aware of this. That's okay, mistake one, no one got word to her. So what should she do? Try to accommodate our group the best that she can, right? After all, we were 10+ people. Maybe she should have asked us if we needed a table, and put us down on her list. Then perhaps she could have told us that we could seat ourselves near/at the bar to have a drink while waiting for our table. Something along those lines. Here is what happened instead. First, she stated that she had no idea we were coming, and then offered no follow up whatsoever. A blank, confused stare. "I don't know." So we asked--where should we go, then? What should we do, then? We were expecting some plan of action. Instead we go attitude. She proceeded to get angry. Why was she angry? I have no idea. We were a 10+ party and the place had plenty of empty tables and seats. Oh wait, I get it, the point is not to actually serve customers, the point is to look all cute while wearing black and sit at the door all night. Excuse the sarcasm. The idea of "job" has apparently never filtered into this young lady's head. So, rather than do her job, she told us to "go to the back bar" and pointed vaguely in a random direction, without moving from her seat. We went. We stood near what we thought looked like a bar and asked, "is this the back bar?" We ordered some drinks. Some people started asking if they could sit down to order some food. There was no clear seating there, so I volunteered to return to the hostess to try to get a table. When we asked about a table (duh), she condescendingly said, "Oh, I don't know, we have reservations, I'll see what we can do about it. to serve you" with barely restrained annoyance that I had dared bother her again. I walked back to the bar and chatted with friends, drinking. She finally returned to me full twenty minutes later to say, "Oh, it might be half an hour, we'll see if we can do it for you," before walking back to preen at her station. Her face registered disgust and her voice was loaded with sarcastic "niceness" each time she spoke. So, all in all, she made a group of over 10 people (who had called ahead, mind you) feel unwelcome, unwanted, as though we were interrupting HER precious time. Why didn't we walk out? Well, it was the designated place we, the Flash Mob participants, had been told to go after the dancing at Faneuil Hall. When we finally sat down at our table, we weren't brought water with our meals, the waitress never asked how we'd pay (separate checks, etc.), and the food was maybe one step above Taco Bell quality. Thankfully, the drinks, though expensive, had been good, and by the time we were eating, we were too tipsy to care much. I rarely make any complaint about staff. I plan to call the manager and let him know that looking cute does not make a hostess a good hostess. Whoever this young lady is, she should discover the meaning of the word "job" pretty soon.

Typical Boston tourist trap. After walking around crowded Faneuil Hall though it fit the bill perfectly for a place to sit and grab a drink. The service was god awful. The bartender noticed us upon arrival and dropped off a drink menu and said she'll be right with us. We proceeded to wait ten minutes to order a drink. She was the only bartender servicing a 40 seat bar and all tables. Not very good scheduling on the part of management. So I will cut her a break. There was some other clown who eventually hopped behind the bar but he sucked. After our initial impression of the place we decided to just have one drink and eat our chips and guacamole and go somewhere else. The chips and guac took forever. The female bartender apologized and gave me another Sam Adams October on her. Nice gesture. One huge positive - the bathrooms are very clean and empty. This will be my secret pee stop next time I'm in the area.

Awful bar, awful service. Bartenders are inattentive. Opened a tab here one night and my card wasn't there when I closed out. Found out later through friends that an acquaintance was given my card instead of her own. She realized and returned it to Mija that night, and I picked it up the next day, but the staff didn't even bother to tell me it had been given to someone else! Was told my tab would be comped by a bartender and later a manager, but the charge still went through. Called numerous times to speak with someone and got the runaround. Absolutely disgusted with this place and never going back.

Ugh... this place hasn't closed yet? My first try here was right after it opened. It was a glorious Friday evening. The sign said to wait for a table, so wait we did. It was busy but not really packed. The hostess sure acted like it was packed. So we sat down. We were in the mood for Mexican food, and the menu was a huge disappointment. The Mexican-ness of this place is that they have a taco plate and they have Tequila in the name. So we decided on which sort of chicken we all wanted and waited for the waitress. And waited. And waited some more. And eventually walked out. My second try was mostly for drinks. How bad can a dos equis be? So once again we waited for the hostess. She told us 5 minutes. The place wasn't really packed, there were empty tables, but maybe they needed to be bussed? She sure seemed really harried! 10 minutes later I inquired if things were ready. She told us 5 minutes, again. Kind of annoying because there were clearly tables that were empty and we had a crew of anxious lushes! Needless to say, we left and went to Woodward nearby.

NOT A TRUE MEXICAN JOINT.... more like Mexican Fusion.... Don't get me wrong, Mija's was tasty, and I shall be returning, but not when I have a hankering for some good ol mexican. They are also a Tequila bar, so Im guessing their drinks are quite good! They have a list of maybe 50 different tequilas. The appetizers range from $5-$10 Drinks range from $4-$12ish... semi-pricey, but solid place for good drinks and light food!!!! Yum

Despite the business from being in the prime tourist area, I'm shocked locals (being a North Ender) still even waste their money there. I have given this place 4 chances to redeem themselves and each visit was progressively worse. Are the hosts/bartenders even old enough to serve drinks? It took me and my boyfriend to split up on either sides of the bar to even be acknowledged for a drink. Sorry, I do not have big boobs or look like I just stepped off the Jersey Shore boat and neither does my BF, but WE'D LIKE A DRINK PLEASE!!!! Rude! Rude! Rude!! Do locals a favor and stop paying them for bad service. The always wonderful Purple Shamrock closed down and this Guido Factory is still surviving? Is the mob in town? I pray this place goes under before we all end up living next to Snooki and JWow.

Overpriced for the quality. Food was bleh, drinks were bleh. I paid $18 for nachos that weren't good and $14 for a cocktail that was gross...also they played country music...country music at a tequila bar??? NO The decor, seating, and live band were great though... so that's why it got 2 stars.

I'm going to have to go with the "sucks" review. The service was not good, we waited over an hour for our food and it sucked- the rice and the fish tacos had zero taste. If you want to people watch go there and get a drink, otherwise there are many other actually GOOD tequila bars w delicious food to go to.

This place is the literal definition of A-OK and mostly because the bad equally balances the good -- for example: - our waitress (cute brunette) made great drinks *but* the bartender working alongside her was a total deusche, and could clearly see we needed something but went on to dance (to his own beat) and make shots (for himself and coworkers)..wtf? - drinks were good, mine was stronger and better than his. All margaritas are good but I recommend asking your server what his/her favorite is since they are so familiar with the menu. - outdoor seating is an added bonus; clean bathroom is an bonus, but overall atmosphere is dull. Soooo, I recommend this place if you are waiting on others or if you need a pre-game spot. For a night out, it's a bit dull and a big bit expensive ($23 for a margarita and a captain cocktail). So-so!

Bad bad bad service. We waited 15 minutes after sitting down before seeing our waitress and then when she showed up, we asked for a drink menu, and she said "Let me see if I can find one." You'd think a place that called itself a tequila bar would have enough drink menus to go around. We waited another 10 minutes to get a drink menu. I ordered a sangria which tasted like watered down sugary wine. The food wasn't great. There's much better mexican in Boston. I was so turned off by the service, if it was noteworthy food I wouldn't go back anyways. I'll be surprised if this place lasts.

OK, I'll break it down for you: THE GOOD/DECENT: -Nice space. Great location in Faneuil Hall, outdoor seating, nicely done bathrooms, etc. It's pretty. -Food. We got the app sampler, the plantain chips, a couple of tacos, and nachos. Everything was decent to good. In particular I liked the fish tacos. THE BAD/LOUSY: -The staff/service. From the hosts to the wait staff to the bartender, no one sticks out as impressively competent. I was trying to coordinate a large party, and the hosts (on two different days), were less than helpful. First they took my name, number, and party size to try and accommodate me, giving me the marketing director's card. But when I called to confirm, I was told that there was no such thing as reservations and we should basically just show up and try to get a seat. Look, I don't care either way, but don't tell me one thing and then do another. Why bother taking my name and number!? Table service and bar service were OK, but not stellar. Everyone just seems like they were hired because they are young and good looking... and then not really given any training. (And look, I don't know anything about authentic Mexican, I'm a Jew from NJ, but I'm pretty sure a Really Awesome Margarita should be made with fresh lime juice, not bottled.) -The vibe. A tequila bar should be serious fun. I would expect everyone to be extremely knowledgeable about the drinks and to be very enthusiastic and generous in the realm of chips and other small freebies. This place just didn't have it. I felt like I was imposing on the place, and I just wouldn't go back. Alas. It sounded like such a good idea. ps. Also their website is awful. It's like they read neversaidaboutrestaurant… and didn't realize it was a joke.

I went to Mija last night with a large group of coworkers. There were 10 of us total. When we got to the hostess stand there was a large sign that said "Please wait to be seated". However, there was nobody to seat us. We waited around a few minutes before claiming some tall chairless tables on the patio. As a result we did not receive menus. One of my coworkers tried to flag down a waitress, to no avail. Of everyone in the group 5 wanted particular types of beer, 3 wanted margaritas with salt, and 2 wanted specialty drinks we'd seen on the menu online. I remembered that the specialty drink I wanted was a Blue something and my co-worker wanted a Purple something. She and I explained to the bartender as best we could from memory and hoped they knew their drinks well enough to know what we were talking about. When the drinks finally came they gave us 5 beers (all the correct types) and 5 unsalted margaritas. Margaritas with salted rims were all over the bar and we attempted to correct our order but every waitress seemed far too busy to talk to us. I eventually gave up trying to get my Blue something and had the margarita. It was ok. Not bad, but nothing spectacular, just a regular margarita. For $12 I would have liked something more. About 15 minutes after we got our drinks we decided to order nachos, which didn't arrive until about 45 minutes after we placed our order. It was kind of busy in the restaurant, so a wait is understandable, but it was one plate of nachos-- chips, cheese, salsa...I figured they could pull that together faster. The nachos, too, were ok. They satisfied my snack craving but weren't anything special. I did like the inclusion of queso, though. Overall, Mija left me unimpressed. If you just want to drink and snack then it's an ok place, but I bet you can find a cheaper place with better service.

Mija is a bar in Faneuil that I actually enjoy going to. It's not perfect (and any bar in Faneuil that got five stars would probably lose money) but there are enough positives to warrant a good review. I've seen some reviews about their tacos being overpriced. Really? For $5 you get a very large serving on a good tortilla. Last time there, I stopped by solo for a quick bite and ordered two tacos, a braised short rib and a spicy ahi. Both were terrific, presented together on a plate with a small serving of maize. I would venture that the cost of the tuna alone on the spicy ahi taco is close to $5. Rounding the tacos out with a margarita, I had a nice afternoon meal for just over $20. What haven't I liked so far? A bit of a lack of knowledge on the waitstaff about tequila, which is forgivable almost anywhere but a tequila bar. The first time I ordered a good anejo tequila, it came on the rocks. I asked to have it served neat for sipping (which should be the default), I was obliged but it came back cold and slightly watery, apparently the same pour strained out into another glass. The second time I ordered a good anejo, the waitress didn't know what anejo was and I was again served a drink on the rocks, only this time it was a completely different blanco tequila. It would really be a good idea to have some sort of tasting class for new employees and perhaps some discussion in premeal about new tequilas and how to talk about them with patrons (in the same way that good restaurants educate their staff on wine). I've also seen some inconsistencies in the makeup of the margaritas. I could talk a bit more about some hiccups that I've seen with the staff but it's nothing big and nothing new - I'd like to see them a bit more organized and consistent but so far I haven't had any issues with the food and only minor issues with the drinks. The setting and decor are good, perhaps not as ambitiously swank as the other new mexican bars that have opened this year but it still carries the feel of a cantina. The open air patio is great and the whole place really carries the same open feel, making it particularly nice on a sunny day. If you've had a bad experience, it's worth going back (especially if you went shortly after they opened) as they've improved on many of the common complaints and continue to improve. If there's a problem, don't be afraid to complain in person - it makes it much easier for restaurants to address what's wrong when people do.

This review is for late night only. Mija has a lot of space, but was not crowded at all, though there were a decent number of people in there. $5 cover charge, which is ridiculous. Sort of a lounge/bar/club in one. Outdoor seating, which was nice. Typical radio rotation hip-hop/pop songs. Lighting effects by the way of neon green dots. Definitely caters to a tourist/college crowd. If you want a margarita, I'd go across the walkway to Zuma.

Wow some really pissed off one star reviews -- My experience here was completely different. The front staff was welcoming and friendly. I got a table right away near the back bar. Cool crowd, hot friendly staff, and good drinks. This first drink I ordered called for rum and bc they are new they did not have it behind the second bar yet, so the bartender personally went downstairs to get a bottle just for my drink. As for the food - after living in AZ for 5 years I am spoiled but this was actually pretty decent ...for Boston. The short rib tacos were on point. It is nice to have another place in Fan that's not a scummy Irish dive (see Ned Devine's ) I will defiantly be back.

Nothing good to say about it. I went with my husband and 2 small kids for lunch. It is not kid friendly even though there is a kid menu. The waitress took our appetizer away before we finished. It took over an hour to get our main dishes. One of the kids meals was burnt, not just over cooked. The other kids meal was not what we ordered and covered in spicy sauce. After making children wait over an hour to eat they only had cold soggy French fries which they over charged me $4 for. Our dinners did not come out at the same time. My sides were missing and the waitress had the nerve to actually yell at me. She told me she "did not cook the food". Saddest part was our bill came to $80 and we left starving. Grabbed a slice of pizza at Regina's afterwards. The bottom of our bill said to leave 15% for poor service. Nice touch. Don't waste your time or money.

I just turned 21 recently and I came here on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. Right in the heart of Faneuil Hall, kind of a part of Quincy Market, there was a line to get in. Thankfully we waited indoors considering it was so cold outside! We waited about 20 minutes and paid $5 cover charge. Which I thought was kinda silly considering it wasn't too popping when we were waiting and the place isn't that large. Got in and drinks weren't so bad. $3 margaritas, you can't go wrong with that. Their vodka-cran are in pint glasses versus the little dinky plastic cups some places give out. There was a DJ playing decent music, definitely music you can dance to. Top 40s, hip hop, a little bit of old school. No one was really dancing when I got there but by the time I was having a blast & feeling the heat, everyone was on the dance floor. Granted I haven't been here to dine in, but considering the reviews here I'll skip on that. I'll stick to coming here for night life purposes. Not too shabby!

I can't believe I waited to post this... Horrible, do not go, stop, danger... I always yelp before I eat or enter an establishment. It took, no joke, 20 min to get a drink, 15 for a shot to add to the weak drink, and 45 min for our cold app to come out. Tacos were cold and tiny. The bill, not as tiny as the taco. Sad because this place could have real potential. Service, food, and drinks were all horrible!

What this place has... -loud pop music blasting and some thrown in early 90s hits -barbacks with mojawks -lots of tequila? (it's neither here nor there to me because i dont often drink the stuff) -overworked bartenders -delicious but overpriced guacamole Now, I'll give you this important piece of info... the bf and I attended a happy hour event that his friend's gf won. So I completely get that they were SLAMMED with people wanting to take part in $3 margaritas, $1 tacos and $2 modelo cans. But there is no reason for it to take 15 minutes to get a bartender to take my drink order for... 2 beers. Actually, as I was ordering I tacked on 2 more beers because of how long it took to get the first round... I actually think the bartender rolled her eyes at me. Whatevs. I was happy to partake in the happy hour but I wouldn't come back and pay full-price for anything at this place.

Looking for a place to eat around Faneuil Hall, my friends and I fell for this tourist trap of a restaurant, which seemed somewhat promising at first. The menu is relatively affordable for the area and offered a nice selection of food and a large selection of drinks (mainly tequila). I ordered an a la carte selection of tacos for my entrée and a plate of fried calamari for an appetizer to share. The fried calamari was pretty good with a bean-based salsa for dipping sauce. Plenty of tentacles came with the dish to keep me happy instead of just rings. The tacos were only average at best. The mushroom was packed with beans and not too much in the way of mushrooms. The fish taco was a bit dry but the worst was the pork, which tasted mostly like rust instead of the spices and marinade I was expecting. Service and ambiance were mediocre at best. It's a loud restaurant, which was made worse by a group of workers on a company outing at the bar. Service was pretty spotty with minimal water service, no plates for appetizers, and no utensils and napkins until we actually requested them from the waitress after our entrees were served. It's best to avoid Mija unless you're really desperate for Mexican food around the Faneuil Hall area. You're better off going somewhere else for better service and food.

I have to start off with the fact that Tequila is not my drink of choice! I have been here on Friday nights with a large group and pretty much took up one side of the bar which seemed to lead to a good time...but Thursday nights do not really seem to be that happening. Gives the vibe of a young professional weekend starter bar - but being that it is in Fanueil Hall it seems to bring in less desirable crowd. Bottom line if you are looking for some tasty-Boston based price drinks then you have come to the right place. My roommate and I hate these delicious mixed frozen drinks!...so yea they weren't that strong but they were delectable. You should always give something a try, right?

Like several other reviewers, I would agree that this is a good place to meet friends and hang out for an hour..and it seems like that's what happened when we were there with the result being an almost ear splitting noise level while some really loud people yelled and whistled. It's a fun place and the food is pretty good. Not gourmet Mexican but nice and interesting.. The chicken nachos were actually awesome, I thought. The tequila selection is outstanding, but I just don't know that I'd come back just for the food.

I usually avoid the restaurants in this area because the amount of tourists is just irritating, but I do like this place enough to come by...for the most part. The food is really good. Highly recommend the taco salad, but have also had the burgers and small taco plates which were all fantastic. The drinks are hugely over-priced but at least they are also huge! Margaritas and blended drinks are my favorite. The biggest turn-off to this place, however, is the staff. While there have been a few friendly exceptions, the majority of the staff are moody early 20-somethings who are more interested in socializing than serving. They can usually be found in the corner gossiping and ignoring you. They also have a tendency to be lazy and unhelpful. As an example, we explicitly came to Mija after work to get one of our favorite blended drinks. The server told us they were out of the main ingredient to make the drink, which is fine. 15 mins later, however, we see other people getting served the same drink and when we ordered the drink again (as it seemed they had restocked the missing ingredient) the waitress said they were still out, without even asking the bar tender! When we point out the drink that was OBVIOUSLY the one we wanted, sitting at another table, she said "That must be something else". She stalked back to the corner to talk with her friend. GRRRR.... If it weren't for their fantastic drinks and tacos I would not be back after that incident.

Considering the area, I really like this venue. I love the set up their bar and seating area. I only went here twice to dine and have drinks, and both times were very enjoyable. Their tacos are actually really good and they have a very extensive tequila selection. Their drinks are a bit weak but our bartender last time was very accommodating because I wanted to order off the menu. Good for a light snack and meetup with friends and coworkers.

We went there last Friday right after work for a birthday party. Several of the people in our group (12 people) really like tequila and we were very excited about the selection. The food was ok to good (nothing bad, but nothing great), the selection of tequila was pretty awesome, but the service was embarrassing. Anytime someone wanted anything we had to waive the waitress down. Then if we didn't force her to wait 10 seconds, she would leave before anyone else could ask for anything. The drink menu says "Our trained servers will be happy to assist you with selecting the perfect tequila," but our waitress's only knowledge of tequila appeared to be "Reposado is better and anejo is the best." When we tried to ask questions it became obvious that she didn't know what the difference is between silver, reposado, and anejo nor anything about any of the options on the menu. In the end, there was a 20% tip added to our bill (not 18% like everywhere else). We would have ordered a lot more if she came back at reasonable intervals. Even when you are forcing people to tip, higher bills mean more money in tips. We also couldn't seem to get refills on water even when we asked. With a decent waitress, we probably would have had a 3.5-4 star experience. To be a 5 star experience, they need to carry at least half of the mezcals listed on the menu and to learn what to do with tequila. Having hundreds of options is a good start, but it shouldn't end there. I doubt we will ever go there again unless something leads us to believe that they have really upped their game.

If I could give a 1/2 star than I would. Went there or lunch today and waited 45 minutes for cold, indelible food. We asked the waitress for our food a few times and each time she said, it will be out in less than 5 minutes. The waitress was totally clueless. I asked her for a refill on water which I had go remind her of. We then asked to see the manager....we waited, and waited some more. Finally we just got up and walked over to a waitress and asked her to summons the manager. The manager finally rolled around. She had no excuse for the inedible food but an excuse for the delay. She was at least apologetic about the slow service. Never again. Go inside the massive food court and grab a decent meal you can at least enjoy.

Great Atmosphere, awesome decor, quick service.. But not to quick. Chips and Salsa were excellent (chips were warm). Tacos-Baja, grilled beef, carnitas each had very distinct flavors. Spicy slaw was not for the faint of heart but if you like spicy go for it. If you are looking for Mexican food give this place a try.

We had great service, it was slower but the Pats game was on and the bar was sort of empty. We had (2) margaritas and the trio appetizer. Our bartender was great and attentive. Ill say it in every review, IF you are looking for better service, sit at the bar. Think about it, they have a minimal walking distance and the kitchen usually brings the food for them! I thought it was great, I would recommend!

I wish I had read the reviews for this place before we went last Saturday night! We came here looking to get a couple drinks before heading out for the night. It was completely packed and we had to wait a few minutes before getting to the bar. Honestly, biggest waste of my money ever. I had the frozen mango daiquiri and my friends had a margarita and a regular beer. For the amount we paid, I expect there to be SOME sort of liquor in it. Absolutely nothing in the drinks as if it was a complete rip off. When my friend first got her marg, she saw it and expected it to definitely get her tipsy. More like the complete opposite. While we were sitting there finishing our drinks, several waiters came up to us and said they were going to move away all the chairs. What? We're not even done yet. Not sure if they did it to make more room for people to move in and out or what. Regardless, probably never going to come here again especially since there are so many other options. Nice outdoor seating for meals and the bathroom was pretty spacious. Otherwise, that's all it had going for it.

You can't really go wrong with a Tequila Bar, and since I loooove margarita's I enjoyed this place. I came with a very large group of people for a birthday thing. The margaritas were cheap...and strong. There was some live music in the back of the bar but it was oddly hard to hear and wasn't drawing much of a group. We checked out the menu..but we weren't really impressed. One reviewer said it is not a true mexican restaurant...and I agree..the menu wasn't what I would come here for. Just come have a drink or two, try some new tequila ;)

Went to #Mija last night with some co-workers for rebel night. One of our junior employees, #BMO, pulled some strings and hooked us up with a dope happy hour special. I don't think they give this happy hour out to just anyone, he really must have some connections. Anyways, we get to #Mija around 6pm after a long day of testing software and told the hostess that we know #BMO and her jaw just drops. She has everyone fill out all of their information (stupid) and then pulls out a sharpie and puts an X on everyone's hand. Straight up docking the broad 1/4 a star for using a permanent marker on my co-workers hands. That just aint right and is a bit unnecessary. Anyways after about 10 minutes we proceed to a table they prepared for us. Now this wasn't just any table, it was the King's table. Big table, solid wood, nice chair, candles, the works. Very #Impressed. As I sat down i glanced around the place and notice the nice wood ceilings and thoroughly enjoyed the #Ambiance. After a couple minutes the waitress comes over and takes our drink orders. We inform her we are here for the happy hour and would like to hear the specials again. She tells us that they offer $4 Margies and $3 Modelos. Now is this in fact a happy hour special? No. It is against the law to have happy hour specials in MA so its just an every day drink special, nothing specific to the happy hour #BMO hooked us up with. Regardless, we all started off with #Margies. They came in smallish plastic cups filled with ice. I told her I would like mine 'extra strong' and she basically just deflected the question. Turns out they just make a big batch in a bucket. Can't fault them here but you don't BS a BSer. Anyways, margies come, and I'd say they were like a 4/10. Little bit heavy on the juice but pretty much what we expected. After 1, most of us move onto beer, other than the girls who start to get tipsy of their strawberry #margies. Back to the happy hour. What the 'happy hour' is really all about is the food. The happy hour special is for $1 tacos (only beef and chicken). We put in an order for 30 tacos (15 of each). To my surprise the chicken tacos were actually pretty good. It was some shredded chicken that appeared to be slow cooked in a BBQ sauce topped with some cheese in a soft tortilla. Nothing special but not bad. The beef tacos on the other hand were pretty #brutal. The beef was shredded into tiny balls and not good at all (docking them 1 star for the food). Kinda tasted sandy. I would advise to have several drinks before placing the order. Onto the service. Service was decent but our waitress spent most of the night out in la la land. Her go to move was to walk by the tables without looking at any of the tables. Generally, a waitress should check on her tables to see if we needed anything. She was nice enough and did as she was told so only going to dock her 3/4 star. One thing worth noting is that she (or the bartender) decided to serve the Modelo beer in a can with a lime on top that did not fit in the can. Doesn't make too much sense. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this place considering it was in the heart of Faneuil Hall and is pretty much a tourist trap. Would I return? Ehhh, maybe. Other noteworthy events: Paul did not come because he was at the doctor and playing #Zelda. Houser came for a drink and then went on a movie date with a dude. Danica and Gabe walked back to Beacon Hill after. Local celebrity #JB was in attendance but refused to sign autographs. Sabiela and Dorian hated the tacos. My girlfriend and sister were there but I did not invite them to sit with us. Other rebels went to #Coogans after.

It's Faneuil Hall, I know. As a born and raised Bostonian I have no business even being in the area. But last Saturday 5 of us were hopping around and ended up here around 10:30. We get to the door to find a "$5 cover after 10pm". I know you're located in a tourist trap, Mija, but you're a restaurant. We each pay our cover and walk to the bar, which was pretty dead...no problem finding 5 seats in a row. We each order a house margarita. They're strong which is good, especially considering the $12 price tag. I have no issue paying $10+ for a quality cocktail. (Should be noted that Temazcal's house are even better and are a dollar cheaper and you don't ever have to pay cover). Three of my friends leave after one round. Two of us stick around for another planning to catch up with them later. Around quarter past eleven we see two or three groups just walking in showing their IDs. No "restaurant cover charge". It's still after 10, is it not? As patrons who paid $25 and then racked up over $100 at the bar, we were naturally unhappy. I ask the bartender to speak with a manager. I just wanted to understand the rationale behind us paying cover and an hour later people are walking in for free. A tall African-American man comes over, he tells me that he is the manager. I address him in a normal conversational tone. I'm not outraged...a little pissed...but no reason to be screaming at a manager. I know very well that will never ever get you anywhere. The second he heard what I was addressing, he began speaking to me extremely aggressively. I repeatedly asked him to lower his tone, and he continued to yell at me trying to explain that it was slow so they cut the door girl. Instead of yelling at customers, the proper way to have addressed the situation would've been to say "you know, it's a little slower than we were expecting, so we cut the door girl. Please allow me to refund you guys your cover." He even went as far as saying he doesn't care if, as paying customer, we don't return. What kind of manager is that? He finally walked away, brought us back our $25. We threw back the last sip of our margaritas and escaped this place. By the way, his name was Eric. Say hello to him if you see him, he's extremely friendly.

Took what felt like an eternity to get our food. Asked waitress for a to-go container, which she forgot. Asked if what I ordered was spicy, to which the waitress replied no... Um, hello fire! Don't go here unless you want to wait hours and have bad service!

This place looked great when we walked in. We sat down, looked at the menu, ordered drinks....and.... WAITED. and WAITED some more. OK, so the drinks took a while, tasted them-awful sangria, It didn't even have any fruit in it?? My friend's margarita was 99% bottled sour mix and was ridiculously awful. Ordered food, 48 minutes later we get our ala carte tacos and they are pretty bland. Menu looks great and I do want to give it another shot, but my first visit was so disappointing, so it's hard to want to go back.

We had just about walked all over Quincy Market, tried the chowda' and a lobster roll, went into CHEERS and the works. We decided to stop in Mija for some drinks before taking the T back to Back Bay. The hostess was hocking $3 margaritas to everyone and said "Just ask for the House Margarita it's not on the menu." After a long long long time, someone finally came to take our order. We asked for the house margarita and an order of guacamole. We did not see anything for at least ten minutes after that. First came our (alleged) $3 margaritas and then the guacamole minutes later. We did not see our waitress again until finally flagging her down. We asked for the bill. She came back with the bill and gave us the wrong one. Another five or ten minutes went by and she came back. We asked for the proper bill, she eventually came back only for us to discover that the House Margaritas were actually $11 EACH instead of $3 EACH. When we asked her about it, she snottily replied that you have ask for the $3 margarita and basically let us know that WE were wrong and that is was OUR fault. We had to pay full price for everything and she kept asking if we needed change. The bill came to $33 and she kept trying to leave the table with the $40 we were using to pay without coming back for change. She was basically rude and did nothing to accommodate for the miscommunication between the hostess, customers and herself. We even overheard another customer complaining. She made no apologies for her mistakes. Her name was Amanda! Be sure to ask the price on every single thing you order or do yourself a favor and don't go at all!

Everything you can expect from a Faneuil Hall restaurant. Super sweet location. Over priced cocktails (although dipping the rims in agave syrup then salt is pretty effing sweet). One drink leads to 5 more... shots of tequila in the middle of the day ... what were we doing in Faneuil Hall anyway?? hungry, but the handful of fries for $4 definitely doesn't cut it... it's only 6:00? why are we still here? spending spending spending... Just remember your not here for authentic cuisine, but for the authentic Faneuil Hall experience.

Horrible! Forgot or drinks, forgot our appetizer, all the food came out together 30 minutes later and cold at that. The manager offered his apology, but did nothing beyond that to rectify the situation. My boyfriend got the steak and he liked it okay. My tacos were bland, but the tequitos were decent. The other wait staff was friendly. Outside of that, nothing good to say.

mojito: weak taco: tasteless chips: good salsa: smokey average guag: so-so sam adams summer: delicious I set my standard of Mexican food high. This place was pricey (obviously - it's in faneuil hall) and sub-par. It is great for people watching on a Saturday night...everything from brides wearing minnie mouse ears to homeless blind people (who i saw checking his blackberry around the corner 5 minutes later) to street performers walking around in costume to the intoxicated tourists - it's all there.

I've been to Mija several times and the service and food is rarely consistent. We went this past weekend to take advantage of their Blizzard specials - $1 tacos and $4 margaritas. My friends and I were all let out from work early because of the storm so we decided this was the place to go since the margaritas were always really good (as long as they use the better quality tequila). The food: The tacos had old meat and chicken as if it had been sitting out for some time or had been left over from the night before - it was crusty and burned. They are relatively small, but for $1, they were what we expected. We also ordered nachos, which have always been very good - but they served them a little differently this time using a thinner chip topped with a mayonnaise type dressing. We added beef to the nachos - which actually was good but had very few pieces. The service: This is really where my guests and I feel they fell short. Our bartender was very nice, one of my friends was talking to him asking him about the storm - how he was getting home, etc to be nice since they seemed to be the only people working! The manager had a problem with this and pretty much shut my friend down informing her that they take care of their staff and we shouldn't be worried about them. The manager then proceeded to give us the 'evil eye' for quite sometime and made us very uncomfortable to the point that we left. 2 of us had 2 margaritas and one had a third, plus 2 tacos each and the nachos came to $60+tip. For a Friday afternoon in the middle of a storm, I think this is decent. We tipped the bartender fairly ($15) - it wasn't his fault that the female manager made us uncomfortable. I do need to mention that it was the female manager as it appeared there was a male manager on staff as well - he was much nicer but we really hadn't dealt with him.

Mija is AWESOME! I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews. Yes, it is touristy, but it's in Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall, so what would you expect. Every time I've been there, the service has been terrific and the food and drinks are tasty! It's a great spot for lunch - the Carnitas con Rajas Quesadilla is quite good and they have tons of taco options. At night, they serve dinner with a similar menu plus some additional entree dishes that look good. Alas, we come to drink primarily, so an order of nachos to share and several liquid rounds is dinner in my book! The party gets going pretty good late at night, with live music, shots, beautiful people, and everything else you would expect at a bar like this! If you are a tequila drinker, the selection is unreal - ranging from $10 for the standards up to $200 for the 1800 Coleccion!! They also offer flights if you are interested in comparing/contrasting different tequilas. I enjoy the fact that the menu has brief tasting notes, describing the flavor of each option. I'm a fan of Cazadores (intense pepper, nice balance) on the rocks, personally. The staff, from bartenders to servers to managers, all greet me with open arms and provide excellent service for the entire experience - I will be back here every time I visit Boston! And for any visitors to Seattle, come check out Peso's in Queen Anne for similar vibe!

I seriously don't know why I keep going to this place. I stopped in for a drink at the bar thinking that I could deal with the rude and bored to death bartenders for one round. The one redeeming thing is the blanco tequila flight - it's only $12 or so. I really can't believe that this place is still open. They hire THE worst servers and bartenders I've ever seen. Edit - just wanted to mention that I have been here about 5 times over the last couple of years. The food is OK. Sometimes it can b good, sometimes its bad. The service is always awful. It's just not worth it there are so many other great places that have kind and personable bartenders. This place consistently has apathetic at best bartenders who like like they are one step away from working at a strip club. Mgmt only hires cute bitchy girls that don't want to work and don't enjoy the restaurant industry.

Typical Faneuil Hall "meh" restaurant that probably just stays open with business from tourists and after-work drinkers. We came during a Bruins game and wanted to sit near a TV, the bar area was very busy but the dining area was quite empty, yet it still took probably 5 minutes before anyone came over and greeted us. The chips were good but the salsa had a weird flavor. Margaritas were $12 for what tasted like a shot of tequila with an envelope mix from the grocery store. She forgot the salt and realized it once she brought the drinks over; rather than just bringing another one with salt she half-heartedly offered to bring the drink back, which we didn't bother with. I got 2 tempura tacos which I will say were pretty good--they were the only reason I thought about giving this place 2 stars--but my husband insisted I really reflect that this is one of the worst restaurants we've been to and I couldn't disagree. He got the fish tacos which were described as having a hint of dijon but he said it was way overpowering and the fish was very dry. The presentation of all the food was really nice and everything looked great, it just didn't deliver in terms of value or flavor. Bottom line, you're better off skipping this place and going to one of the pubs in Haymarket. You won't get the "cool" decor that you get here but your food will taste better and you'll get way cheaper drinks.

Our group decided to get a pitcher of sangria for kicks. Lesson learned, stick with tequila at a tequila bar. The sangria tasted like water with a few drops of fruit juice. The staff is great though - very friendly and we somehow got a round of shots on the house. Thanks! Some people genuinely enjoy the pure taste of tequila, but I'm not at that level yet. I think we had the El Charro...? I'm not sure, but even the non-tequila drinkers loved it. We also got the churros with nutella dessert...over fried and way too crispy. It was tough trying to break them in half. I was eyeing the burgers next to us but we were already stuffed on lobster from dinner. All in all, I'd come again to try more tequila.

Went here for my birthday on a Friday night in August. It was good food (3 different appetizers) and good drinks and a great people-watching place. We love eating outside downtown in the summer and this place met our expectations. We're likely to go back but want to try some other spots as well.

My Wife and I went here on a saturday night with a groupon ~6:30. The place appeared empty; however, we were told there was only seating outside, OK. We waited about 30 minutes for a waitress to arrive to take our order, and again they did not appear busy, particularly for a friday. We ordered a Guacamole appetizer I ordered the Rib-Eye Steak medium rare and the wife ordered the Pork Chop. About 45 minutes later our food came with more excuses about a busy night. The steak was passable; however, it was certainly more on the well done side of things. The Pork Chop was likewise passable. If I had more time I likely would have sent my steak back, and I never do that. We informed the waitress we were in a hurry, had to make an event that evening, and asked if she could bring the check with our chocolate creme brûlée, she said she would be back in 2 minutes, but came back in another 15-20. The dessert was awful it was chalky and tasted terrible. We couldn't eat it. Our meal would have come out to 75 bucks without the groupon and for that I would have been extremely disappointed. Even at 35 it was barely passable and far from an enjoyable evening. Mija won't be earning my repeat business, and I love Mexican and Tequila. The waitress was very friendly and likable, but there is something really wrong with the operations of this place. If they cannot handle even a light-moderate crowd on a saturday night they are going to have problems.

I give this place no stars! Do not eat here. Ordered short rib taco, only for waitress to come back to say there were no short ribs and no hamburgers. Ordered tortilla soup. Tasted good but had 2 dirty spoons. Had to ask bartender to get a clean spoon waitress forgot. Finally ordered two other tacos which were cold when they came to table. Waitress said she would talk to Manager. We got our bill, no manager came.

This place was abysmal. The service sucked. The two female bartenders were too busy talking amongst themselves and sweet talking other customers that they past by my empty beer glass three times until one of them finally asked if I wanted another beer. The answer was "No, the check please". I would not recommend of step for in this place based solely off the poor service. I forgot to mention that there were only 8 people at the bar with two bartenders and they still couldn't get things right. Bad management.

This is one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in a long time. They have a nice bar so if you like to sit and watch the people go by it's a good place to sit. I do not recommend eating or drinking anything. I got the raffa rita margarita which came in a cute glass but tasted terrible. I am not sure what was wrong with it. Maybe it was super cheap tequila. What made the whole thing worse was that there was a slice of old orange and a slice of lime swimming in it. The skin on the orange looked wilted and the lime had brown and yellow around the edges which made me wonder how much time it had lying around and where. I also got the avocado dip, a couple of fish tacos and Mija Chopped Salad. The avocado dip was OK. I make a much better one at home. The fish tacos were unremarkable. They were not good and not bad. The salad was the same. I got it with chicken and the chicken seemed to have been cooked a long time ago or from a can. Not sure which. The service is terrible. We sat at the bar but I had to get the attention of the hostess who in return got the bartender. I was unable to get the attention of the bartender although I sat right in front of her. The food came without plates. We had to ask for them. The bill came with a charge for a drink we did not order.

Everything about this restaurant except for the Faneuil hall location (which can also sometimes be described as one star) was awful. From the front of the house staff where nobody was over 20 years old and more interested in flirting with a table full of guidos instead of seating us, to the waitress at the table next to us pulling down her miniskirt every time she walked by, to the cheese whiz they called queso and the store bought pico and guacamole, minute maid lemonade, and tasteless rice and beans that came with a decent but generally also tasteless carnitas taco. Please, please do not let the adorable decor fool you. Maybe if you're only going for drinks and people watching you'll have a better experience, but in general... DO NOT GO HERE. That was my final warning to you!

Tacos-$4-awesome. Margaritas, $11.45-weak and overpriced Hostess (8/25/13)-Worst employee ever. If we had more time, we would have gone elsewhere. She was rude, sooooo slow. Should be fired.

If you're willing to pay a premium for drinks, food, and indifferent eye candy service, Mija is your place. It's conveniently located near Quincy market and takes advance with its price. Chips and various dips are expensive and portions small. Single tacos go for $4 and can't top Anna's. Hell, if I'm drinking, I'd prefer Taco Bell. Service is slow and uneven. Hosts were friendly, but service disappears for long periods of time and you'll have to hunt them down, something a 20 or 30 year old douche wouldn't mind. To summarize: Take a pass.

South of the Border goes, well, south My partner bought a Groupon for here. Sounded like a fun, mellow night out. Rarely have I seen a restaurant to poorly coordinated. When we arrived there was no host/ess and waitstaff ignored us, and when finally cornered they didn't know what the deal was - seat ourselves? wait to be seated? 15 minute wait? but you're empty! Screw it, we'll just sit at the bar. Half hour to get our drinks, 45 minutes to be told they were out of an appetizer, an hour for the guacamole to finally arrive. Did I mention they weren't swamped? Drinks were ok, guacamole tasted like they'd added mayonnaise. The actual entrées were okay but on the bland side. Dessert (tres leches) was actually very good. The bartender/waitress was pleasant and quite competent but clearly could have used some assist. Bottom line: two hours for a mediocre 30 minute meal delivered with adequate time for a siesta. I'd had no expectations coming in, and they still missed. To address Nathan B.'s review, I think the difference is of primary intent: I suspect coming here to drink with food results in a much better experience than coming here to eat with drinks. P.S. Hip-Hop in a Mexican/Southwestern bar? O.o

How do you run out of guacamole at a Mexican Tequila Bar? Well they found a way. Had to get nachos with steak. It was huge and was good but I really wanted guacamole. The specialty margaritas were good and pretty large although we have had better.

I always use Yelp to find a nearby restaurant when looking to dine out in an area that I'm not too familiar with. As you may already know, there are a ton of places to eat around Faneuil Hall. A friend and I couldn't decide where to go when she finally grabbed my hand and walked into the restaurant that was right in front of us. It just so happened to be Mija. We were seated immediately and I quickly busted out the iPhone to check Yelp ratings. We almost got up when we saw that this place only had two stars but decided to stay, and I'm very glad that we did. Our waiter was very friendly and the service was quick. We both ordered the beef quesadilla and it was delicious. It had a decent amount of spice to it and the steak was cooked just right. We also ordered a side of Elote, which was delicious. I eat Mexican food quite often but always push the guacamole to the side. I decided to try it here, for whatever reason, and really liked it! Unfortunately I can't compare it to any other establishment, since it was my first time, but it was definitely enjoyable. I'm actually surprised to see all of the negative reviews. My friend and I were both very satisfied with the food and service, and I honestly could have gone back the same night for dinner.

Completely underwhelming. The menu seems on point and the selections and variations look delicious on paper. But the short rib tacos I got were extremely dry, my girlfriend's purple margarita was a different color and taste than mine. (Which was the same kind). The waitress took forever to bring our round of drinks, forgot to bring us more silverware and plates. Plus the other margaritas that we ordered were just gross, tasting more like orange juice than anything else. The bartender can't make a good margarita? I thought this was a tequila bar? Once we got our bill, we had asked the waitress to split it up, at which point she tossed us a pen and the bill and said, "You can just do it yourself?" Haha really? Horrible service, sub par food and the obvious bad atmosphere. Would never go back or recommend it to my least favorite person.

Went there to meet an old friend, and while the service started slowly, she kept the chips and salsa coming while we enjoyed our drinks and caught up. Their guacamole is really flavorful and has more heat than any other New England Mexican restaurant I've been to (which is a good thing). The steak burrito was flavorful and a nice ratio of steak to fillings. I'll likely go back.

Oh man, where do I start? This is a hot mess from start to finish. Let's start with our hostess. As she sits down our party of three, she tells us how tired she is tonight. Then she gives us a menu and sits us down with only two chairs and two place settings. We grab an extra chair and place setting from a nearby table and are soon greeted by a most lovely waitress. She was friendly and kind and made up for the slightly crazy-eyed hostess. But then, she asked us if we were ready to order. Since we had one menu and there were three of us, we weren't ready. It took a solid 15 minutes for our waitress to come back... and she never brought us another menu. It would be okay if they were slammed... but it was 9pm on a Monday night. They weren't slammed. Eventually she took our orders. The drinks were awful. The sangria was clearly just come chilled red wine with slices of lemons and oranges from the bar tossed in. My roommate ordered the Mexican Margarita... which is apparently a mixture of Taco Seasoning and Tequila. It also might be the most repugnant thing I've ever tasted. My drink was okay... something purple called a Purple Sanchez. Note to all Mexican Restaurants... never use the word "Sanchez" in the name of a cocktail. It invokes certain images for us gay boys. Here's where it got sticky... the food. Kinda delicious. I wimped out and got a burger... but it was delicious. Seriously. It was presented well, cooked exactly how I wanted it and the flavors were great. It was a nicely done burger! Everyone else ordered tacos... and they raved about them. The presentation was lovely. The flavors bold. On a side note... their papas fritas were kinda bad. Stay away. We dipped them into the Mexican Margarita hoping the Taco Seasoning would help give them some needed flavor. It didn't.

I went to Mija's last night for a few drinks with a friend. The first thing that should have clued us in was that it was nearly empty at 11 on a Friday night. We were told to sit anywhere so we chose a seat outside. We then had the same experience as a lot of other people where several servers went by but no one bothered to stop. Finally after about 15 minutes, when someone did stop they asked if we were all set. We explained we had been waiting for someone to bring a menu. After looking through the menu my friend decided on a margarita and I asked for their white partida sangria (its supposed to have lemon, peach, and orange). Whatever I was brought was definitely not what I ordered. It tasted like watermelon and had raspberries in it. Luckily my friend didn't mind it so she drank it and I had her margarita which was nothing special. When I explained it wasn't the right drink the server didn't care, she basically told me sangria has fruit in it (I obviously know this, but typically it has the fruits listed in the description). We didn't hear from her again until we asked for our bill so that we could get out of there. Which when we got the bill it was wrong and didn't have my sangria, but some other drink, but we didn't argue because we just wanted to get out of there. Overall, service is slow, servers don't know the menu, and aren't very friendly. It may be new and they don't know the menu very well because of that, but good customer service isn't that difficult. I wouldn't go back there, even if it was free.

Yikes. I was excited - as someone who has lived and/or worked downtown for many years, it was great to see something a little different come to the area. The space is beautiful, and the outdoor patio looks wonderful for our short summer. But...sigh. Where to start? The staff was a mess - it looked like none had ever worked in a restaurant before. In fact, after waiting 25 minutes to meet her, our waitress told us it was her first day in a restaurant. While she was very sweet and I understand that a new restaurant needs new staff, opening week is tough enough and there needs to be experienced servers and bartenders to guide it along. The restaurant was supposed to open a month ago, but was held up by a liquor license, so there should have been plenty of time to train. Overall, our 2.5 hour meal progressed similar to the other reviewers': slow, missing food and drinks, incorrect bill, etc. The food was...meh. There is good authentic Mexican, there is good American Mexican, there's Mija, which is neither. I understand the concept - and enjoy any kind of Mexican! - but charging $5-7 for a single cold, limp, bland and uninventive taco is wrong. My tablemate's salad looked bagged and limp, and a main course was cold. The saving grace was the free pre-dinner chips and salsa, which a busboy kept trying to take away mid-bite. All said, I think it can be redeemed. When the bartenders learn the trade, I will definitely be back for some delicious margs. Please, Mija, pay attention to these reviews! I'm giving you 2 stars out of the hope you can improve.

I would never go here again, honestly.. I love going out and really respect the work that waiters and bar ppl do for the little pay... and I always tip good... me and my husband were playing on our anniversary going to multiple places in the fanuel hall area... one of the first places we stopped was here. we sat at the bar and felt the bar staff was cold to us, barely acknowledging us and when they did it was because we called them over. I don't like to be rushed at a bar or restaurant but we were ignored most of the time while others next to us were not... it was weird... basically paid for our one drink and left... just so you know, we left went to the oyster bar on the other side, had great service, they even charged my phone for us... then went to the frost bar and had a great time there.. I was really .. work on personality... I always give a place a second chance if given the opportunity but not sure.. the person im with would have to have had a great experience for me to go again.

Not Impressed! The staff is friendly, but the food is terrible and way over priced. If you are visiting Faneuil hall, there are several different places to go that are way better than here. I would skip this one if I were you!

It's actually not that bad. Bar-tending staff needs some practice, indeed: they were a bit slow, not to mention Margaritas and mojitos were a bit way to sweet. And the bar itself is at an odd spot (they all keep running into each over). But tacos are the way the should and taste decent (we had beef and grilled fish ones). Crowd is mostly after work peeps with a sprinkle of tourists. Biggest plus - Tequila menu. It's huge! Ranging from cheap crap to stuff you'll find mostly in Mexico. So, not bad, bit not Lolita's either.

Mija was exactly what I needed it to be last weekend - a nearby place to grab a drink and an app and drunkenly people-watch at Faneuil Hall. I think the biggest problem with Mija is that they are really understaffed. We requested to sit at one of the three empty tables on the patio, but were told we couldn't be seated out there for 45 minutes. My restaurant manager friend surmised that the servers out there were already over-seated. The bartenders were also kind of tearing their hair out and even apologized to some pissed-off girls next to us, explaining, "I'm sorry, we're doing the best that we can!" Our little duo was in no hurry so we didn't mind waiting a bit. We did however, end up waiting about 30 minutes for some chips and dip although the margs kept us from caring. We ended up spending almost $100 on 6 margs and a little plate of chips so be warned! All and all, Mija was perfect if you're hanging out with friends just to hang out - if you're looking for a (positive) memorable experience, take your money elsewhere.

I went for a work lunch with a friend after much anticipation of Mija opening. We didn't get any drinks (alas, we had to head back to work, sigh) but we did enjoy our lunch here. We sat outside because it was a beautiful day, but be warned that the leaves, etc fall from the tree and random and end up sprinkling the table, you, your hair...you get the picture. It took a few minutes for a waiter to approach our table, but once he did, he was nothing but attentive. The chips were good and came with a nice mild salsa (my biggest pet peeve is having a salsa that is too spicy served to the table). It was a more liquefied salsa than one with chunky tomato (which I usually prefer) but it was still good. We opted for two tacos each. My friend, a pescetarian, ordered the mahi-mahi taco and the zucchini taco. I ordered the portabello mushroom and the chorizo/potato taco. We realized later that we could have opted for a crunchy taco, but the waiter forgot to ask our choice. The tacos came and they had put the fish taco on the same plate as the chorizo one by mistake. My friend is pretty cool about that sort of stuff and didn't mind, but I could see it being an issue for others. We also got a side of elote. I have to say that I try elote at every restaurant that serves it because I love it. (Toro has an amazing elote and I had yet to find one that match it's goodness, but I have to say that Mija's elote was amazing. I LOVED it.) I enjoyed the chorizo taco better than the mushroom one. The mushroom one lacked *something* to give it a little more flavor. My friend loved the fish taco more than the zucchini one. Through the meal, our server was extremely attentive. I drink a ton of water and he was quick with the refills - much appreciated! I noticed from other reviews that the service was not that great so it looks like they are trying to improve themselves. I will definitely be back for dinner as well.

I have been here several times, always with mixed results. If you get a good bartender or server, it's golden. Otherwise it's awful. Like the last time I was there -- the hostess simply could not have been ruder. She actually said, "What do you want?" when my friend and I waited patiently for her to look up at us. UNBELIEVABLE! !! But our server was great once we were seated, as were our food and drinks. So it's a mixed bag.

Fanueil hall is fun again! Well made rum and coke, even better tacos, but the kicker are the servers...friendly, relaxed and beautiful. Took my cousins there and each one loved it. The place is no frills, relaxed cantina with well rounded menu offerings! Totally worth a try next time you are in the n'hood. Good times Boston!

Location, service, and food that you want to tell your friends about! I have been to this establishment several times and have never left disappointed. The management is spot-on, and the owner even came out to greet me and ask how everything was. Service was prompt, friendly, and it felt more like your neighborhood cantina than any of the other touristy places in Fanuel. The food was fresh, tasty, and served with a creative flare. I even learned some Tequila history from the very well informed bar staff. Don't listen to the bad reviews in here- I have been many times and it has always been delightful!

I think the location of Mija might have been one of the top things I liked about this place. The outdoor seats (covered by a tent when it gets cold) are perfect for people watching. It's immersment in the hustle and bustle of Faneuil Hall makes for a lively atmosphere. The inside of the establishment has a fairly nice look to it as well. But other than that, I didn't find much to gush about concering this place. They had a fair selection of TVs. I should keep in mind that I went on a Sunday afternoon so it was not as filled as it might be given a different day and time of the week. Their food and drinks were good but nothing amazing. Also, our waiter kept unsuccessfully trying to crack jokes which got slightly old by the time we got the bill. When we did get the bill, it said he name was "Sonic, The" which makes sense because his haircut style very closely resembled that of Sonic the Hedgehog and finally made me laugh. All in all, I actually would recommend this place to someone and I would come back here as well if I was with a person or group of people who wanted to but for me personally, I think this just seemed like your average bar.

I went here for a late lunch yesterday afternoon around 4 and the hostess was very friendly so ill give them that. I sat at the bar by myself and had to wait a few minutes for menus not a big deal. The drinks were disgusting and extremely over priced... When I pay $13 for a margarita I want fresh lime, grand mariner when it's advertised as that not triple sec which my bartender used instead and maybe suggest using a jigger because one of my drinks was very weak while the other was strong and made by the same bartender. Now onto the food... I came in because I saw a special duck taco being served that day so I got that and the short rib taco and a bowl of chicken tortilla soup... Presentation lacked but oh well I was still hoping for the food to taste good. Fail. Unfortunately the soup was so blan I was hoping for a hint of spice or cilantro or something... The duck was ok but the taco should have been dressed more... The short rib taco was near inedible because it was so dry. Really disappointing because it looked like a place that could have a lot of potential if they just put more time into perfecting their menu and not taking short cuts on their drinks.

I've heard friends who've had really great experiences there, but mine didn't have the same effect on me. The bartender seemed extremely frazzled (and to be honest the bar wasn't even that busy) it took 40 min for them to bring out a salad with fries (the fries didn't come with the sauces that they said they would) and a small fish taco. The bartender also never acknowledged that our food hadn't arrived yet, but she was kind enough to grab a round of drinks for us. But I wouldn't go back.

My wife and I just returned from having a wonderful lunch at Mija, the ambience was exquisite. There servers were prompt and courteous. Most importantly the variety and quality of the dishes served was amazing. The variety of tequilas served and the presentation was teriffic. We shall certainly be returning to Mija in the future.

We were soo excited to try Mija, but it was almost a complete disappointment!! It is a beautiful little place, in a fun location, but that was the ONLY good thing about the experience. We had a party of 6 on a dwindling Friday afternoon (just a few days ago). We were seated at a beautiful large table right away. The waitress came over and took our drink orders promptly. From that point, we rarely saw her. She was VERY unattentive, even if we were calling to her and waving. It was actually quite comical, for those of us that weren't angry! She brought our sampler of queso, guac, and salsa (or pico de gallo) with appx 12 chips, so after the 48 seconds it took for us to eat those, we sat for abt 15 minutes waiting for more chips. So by the time she brought the chips, the queso was cold & congealed. We ordered rather quickly (waaaay overpriced, btw. Reason enough to not go back!), just a couple of tacos each, 2 quesadillas for the table, and a few sides. Very simple. It took appx 40 min for the food to arrive after we ordered. RIDICULOUS!!!! She only came over once during that time, to say "your food is coming up soon." Once we Finally got the food, I was hoping for something to redeem the place. Did not happen. Presentation was nice, but food was bland & boring. I didn't hear anything good about any of the 9 or so different tacos that were ordered. They were just kinda ok. Rice was pathetic. Fancy grilled corn was ehhh, yummy, but it sure didn't make up for everything else. Margarita was a solid "good." My 12 year old wants to add something: NEVER eat the cheeseburger tacos, grossssss!! :) We will definitely not be back to Mija, and I will definitely be sending in my negative comment card soon. I wish I had the waitress's name. Bless her heart, she was terrible.

TERRIBLE SERVICE, TERRIBLE FOOD, oh did I mention the service was TERRIBLE? It took 45 minutes to get 1 glass of water for eight people. We never got all of the drinks or food that was ordered. When the food finally arrived (~2 hours later) it was ALL cold!! Then, after the food arrived, we had NO silverware. When we asked for silverware it took another 10 minutes to get it, and when it came we were provided about two handfuls of each (25+)... seriously??We had one napkin to share amongst the whole table and when we asked for more they said they were all out. O.o I've never been so frustrated/enraged at a restaurant before. If it were possible I would give this place ZERO STARS! The owner gave us his card and said he owned multiple other restaurants and clubs. This was appreciated as now I know where NOT to go in the future. I should have looked at the other reviews here on Yelp prior to going as the horrible service seems to be their theme!

I went here not too long after they first opened and actually thought everything was very good, although the service could have been a lot better. I went back today because I was craving a taco and beer so this was the closest option to work. It seems the service has improved slightly but the food has gone waaay downhill. My salsa for my chips was brown.. gross brown. I ordered a shrimp taco for dinner and it wasn't terrible but it was so soggy and overloaded with cabbage. It came with a bowl of rice that I swear were refried beans that were bleached and extruded into a rice shape.. so bland. I ended up trying to fill up on the only thing that actually tasted good: the chips.

If you are looking for a relaxing night out with a friend or boyfriend, do not go to Mija Cantina & Tequila Bar. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we felt as though they were not appreciative of our business. The hostess seemed annoyed with her job, and was not pleasant. We were told that the only seating that was available was outside, despite the fact that I had made a reservation. Annoyed but hungry, I decided to give the patio a try. The hostess assured us that even though it was chilly, the patio was enclosed and had heat lamps. This was not the case. The patio was enclosed by a plastic covering only on one side, so that we had wind blowing on us from two directions. The table and chairs were iron patio furniture and were freezing to the touch. And the hostess seated us as far away from a heating lamp as possible. Again, being starving, I tried to give the table a chance. After freezing for five minutes, I went inside and requested a table indoors. Annoyed, the hostess rolled her eyes and said that the wait for a table inside was 45 minutes. 45 minutes!! But I had a reservation. She then stated that they, in fact, had no record of my reservation even though I had called to make one the previous day! She tossed some papers around, and opened a drawer, to make it appear as though she was looking for a record of our reservation. What a joke! Perhaps a computer reservation system like most restaurants have these days would be of help to Mija. I asked to speak to a manager, and within minutes the hostess returned and stated that a table had just opened up. Well, when we finally walked around the busy, filled bar that blocked the view of the rest of the restaurant, we were finally able to see that the entire restaurant was, in fact, EMPTY! All this frustration when the restaurant is empty??? Why give customers poor service just to make it appear as though your restaurant is popular and busy??? Perhaps if your customer service was up to par, you would have return customers and then the restaurant truly would be busy. From this point, our experience at Mija improved slightly. The waitress was great, very friendly and attentive. The food was okay. My pork chop was overcooked, but the guacamole and the churros were good. However, it was so loud in there that I practically had to scream to my fiance to have a conversation. The okay food was not enough to overcome our bad first impression with Mija. Because of this, we will not be returning.

What a waste of money. Went here last weekend with a friend from out of town, what a poor intro to Boston for them. Food: Overpriced, small portions. My taco was okay, but the fries were like bad, boring potato wedges. Drinks: Overpriced and not enough liquor. I ordered red sangria, and I definitely got a white sangria that tasted like a juice. Service: Not attentive at all. Only credit is that I might use some of the tacos on their menu as inspiration for my own at home. Also, none of the food tasted bad I guess. Otherwise, TOURIST TRAP.

Let me start by saying that this review is based on the drinks, service and overall experience. NOT THE FOOD, having not eaten there I will give them the benefit of the doubt. A few friends and I came across Mija Bar while out in Boston and thought great the ladies can go shopping in Quincy Market and the boys will enjoy some drinks and maybe an app. It seemed like a no brainier yet Mija soured it for me regardless. First off we walked right in not thinking it was a get seated type of place and found a table near the thoroughfare to people watch. A number of waitstaff walked by us numerous times and made eye contact yet blew by, we asked a couple sitting next to us if it usually took this long and they said they had to wait 20+ min for drinks. Finally I stopped a waiter and he informed me that we needed to get checked in first.....So not one person could tell us that? They would have let us sit there dumb & unhappy for who knows how long. We go to check in with the hostess who informs us there is a wait.... How there is a wait I have no clue, out of the 35 tables in the place 23 where empty. So we said screw it and just went to the bar to order a margarita and sat ourselves back at the same place we sat before. The margarita was ehhh....and at 13 dollars it should have blown my taste-buds away! So to wrap it up, this is in a PRIME location with tons of foot traffic practically all year around. If they can't get there basis's down in regards to service the location is the only reason they will last and that's a sad fact!

4 Stars for the Party Atmosphere. Not 5 because we didnt have any entrees. A large group of us went for NYE 2011 and we had a blast. Starting with the hostess walking us all to our table, introducing us to our specific bar tender, having the bar tender explain all the different cocktails available at the table the service was all around excellent. We never had to wait more than 30 seconds for a drink, whether at our table or one of the 3 bars. The only food we had was finger food so I can't rate the entrees but the apps were at least above average. Lastly the atmosphere was great. Everything nicely decorated, small party favors at the tables, All in all a great place to party, enough so that I may have to go back and try out the food.

Best burger I've ever had... including Radius restaurant. I love the decor, it's a comfortable balance between clean modern styling, and natural wood with lots of texture. My wife and friends thought it was just 'good'. I thought it was great. This was also when the restaurant first opened so they may have been on their best behavior but... I would surely give them a shot. The Mexican food was also good.

I dont understand the bad reviews. We went there for a work lunch and things could not have run more smoothly. There, waitstaff was attractive, attentive and alert. My co-workers are not easy-to-please sometimes and they were all happy, too. We had some nachos to start (veggie and beef) and they were great. Some tacos (fish and this bar-b-que kind) which were delicious. The sangria could have been a bit more awesome, but I still liked it. And then they got us back in time for our meeting. Great spot.

I really wanted to like Mija, and maybe it will improve in time, but I will give it a WHILE before I go back. I went after work on a Friday night with two friends. The chips and salsa were delicious, but we only got one serving of them during our interminable wait for food. Our waitress was sweet but had no idea what she was doing. She copied our food & drink orders word-for-word from the menus as we pointed. She brought a gin and soda instead of a gin and tonic twice (obviously she didn't make the drinks, but check twice!). Drinks took forever, as did the food, and when the food FINALLY came the order was not correct. Since everything had been so slow and we were hungry, we decided to eat the food we were given. One friend had a piece of raw mahi-mahi in her fish taco, and while we received a quick replacement, we were still charged for it. I wasn't crazy about my roasted mushroom tacos, but there was nothing technically wrong with them, just too vinegary for my taste. I will wait to see if Mija improves over time. It's certainly a nice spot to hang out in in the summer after work.

This was a nice place to get a drink. Good outside views & atmosphere. They had a variety of special mixed drinks on their menu. It was a nice place to have a drink. Our server was nice, but she needed a little more drink knowledge.

First of all.... the word Cantina is getting thrown around way to much these days. This place is not my favorite, mostly because it's not a true mexican restaurant. The evening started off poorly when our reserved table was given away to a bachelorette party that paid off the hostess. To make matters worse, my friend's whos birthday it was, ended up knowing the manager of the restaurant. No one made any apologies to us after they stuck us at a table outside in the cold. After enough complaining they rearranged some tables inside. The service was a bit inconsistent as well. We were able to order a round of drinks, but did not get to place our food orders for quite some time. When the food did arrive, it was mediocre at best. After dinner, we stayed for a dj and some dancing. We definitely had a fun time but it had nothing to do with the establishment. The space is an awkward layout for dancing and a dj and the drinks were quite pricey and underwhelming. Definitley not a place I plan to revisit unless I am required to. Sorry

Met a friend here for her lunch hour because it was conveniently located. The bartender was very attentive and friendly and stepped out from behind the bar to seat us but then we proceeded to wait and wait and wait for any sort of service at our table, despite a waiter and a manager walking by us multiple times. After at least 15 minutes of waiting with not even a water, I approached the manager and just let her know that we had not been served. She apologized and came over to take our order. She brought out our appetizer and never brought our drinks. I went up to the bar to get us two waters. She dropped our app - guacamole, which was good - and said she would take it off the bill because of the wait and never did. We both had tacos and neither of us were impressed. I ate more of my daughter's french fries than my own meal. Didn't have great expectations for the food with the restaurant being in such a tourist area but thought the service would at least be decent, especially coming from a manager. Definitely wouldn't return or recommend.

I went here this past Thursday for dinner and drinks. Location is great for people watching - outdoor seating that is not right along major traffic is great. Drinks were good, food was alright, the real issue was the service. We were there from 6pm to 8pm and at no time was the place completely full - yet our waitress and the whole service team seemed flustered and uncoordinated. We waited for 20-30 minutes for each round of drinks, even though the bar area was not full. We waiting about 30-40 minutes for our food - and then all of it (apps and tacos) came out all at once, so our small round table was completely overwhelmed with food. I hope to update this review in a few months - I want to like to like this place

Went there over the 4th of July and waited by the sign that says wait to be seated. Hostess came over and said she would be right with us. after waiting 15 minutes we left. she was off in the corner talking with a waiter! Over Labor day we made another trip to try again, same hostess was there and we decided to grab a seat at the bar. the female bartender gave us menus after several minutes. took her sweet time and was rude after we paid our bill by slamming down my cc and walked away. dont plan to go back 0 stars

I just went for lunch on a rainy day with my coworkers. It was OK but I'd expect it to be worse on a busy day. We couldn't order drinks since we were working but I was at first impressed with the menu but at closer look...not so much. It seemed slow. I ate far to many chips because I liked the salsa but thought the chips needed more salt. I ordered the pork quesadilla. It was supposed to have carmelized onions but I didn't see any. I got suckered into a side so I went with black beans. The meal would have been enough but the waitress made me feel like I needed a side! The pork was under-seasoned as well. My colleagues got nachos, and assorted other quesadillas. Everyone seemed happy enough. The meal wasn't bad, it just isn't very good and the same price elsewhere can get you much better food. Our waitress was fine. She stopped to help somebody else while still carrying one of our meals. The menu, at further glance, didn't have anything interesting. There are so many great restaurants around and I think they get by being mediocre at best because of their location. I write a food blog and I don't plan on posting about this lackluster meal.

We had our holiday party and everyone loved the decor, food and hospitality. This place has gotten a chance to improve dramatically after the busy summer opening. The short rib tacos and wings were delicious. All my staff will be back even without my Amex.

Went once with some co-workers for some after work drinks/apps. When I ordered nachos I was shocked to be delivered nachos (at a mexican restaurant no less) with the fenway park cheese sauce all over them, drowning the jalapenos, onions & tomatoes they had scarcely spread around. The nachos were soggy with the cheese sauce & the meal was disgusting. Let my boyfriend into talking me into going again to meet some friends for dinner/drinks on a Sunday a couple of months later. Agreed, but said I refused to eat there - but after seeing a Taco Salad on the specials board outside, figured I'd give the food another shot. Explained to the water that I didn't eat beef, so I'd rather have chicken on my salad, with no cheese (can't eat it for health reasons). Bowl arrived covered in the aforementioned fenway style cheese sauce & ground beef. Give me a break. This place gets the thumbs WAY down. Even with the horrible reviews on Yelp they can't get their act together. With all due respect, wait staff who speak full english would be beneficial, as I believe the language barrier had something to do with my order being incorrect.

Marginal margaritas, decent (but pricy) tacos, and AWFUL discussing side of rice and beans. Our server was good but not stellar and we didn't have to wait long for food to be brought out, except the sides did not come out with the diners. Add that to a told 30 minute wait for a table that in reality took 70+ minutes and you have my rating.

$25 for a weak margarita and even weaker pina colada! With so many places to go around Boston, I would not waste your time with this place!

The host and server were very accommodating and the food tasted great! We had different tacos, the manchego salad and the swordfish at our table. Everything was flavorful and beautiful. Other than on the pricey side, the drinks and food were nice. For walking into a random restaurant on a Sunday evening, I was pleased!

Had a little over an hour before we had to head to South Station and catch an Amtrak train. There were plenty of open tables yet we waited a solid 8 minutes to finally be acknowledged by the cranky hostess (I am hoping it was her first day on the job, otherwise she should consider another profession). Once we were finally seated, we waited another 5-7 min without ever being acknowledge by a server. We really wanted Mexican so were willing to stick it out. I went back to the hostess and told her I didn't want to be a bother but we were under time constraints and hadn't yet been greeted. She brushed me off with her bad attitude. I returned to the table and waited another few minutes but we eventually got up and left and had to get takeout food in the marketplace. I will never go back there again.

Okay, For all you foodies: The Con Queso is to die for, but I would not recommend eating it if you're lactose intolerant. However, the combination of cheeses, caramelized onions and jalapenos is an absolute home run.! As far as tacos, the braised beef tacos are quire unique in the Boston area, and is really tasty. Pricing is moderate, but then again it is Faneuil Hall. For all you party heads: Saturdays are really different. Certainly a great place to hang all night if you want to start with apps/ some live music, then work your way into some tequila shots by 11pm. At midnight, it gets packed with a sexy crowd with unique top 40 remix music by DJ Rhemi. I personally don't like to dance, but the girls do and that what counts! This place is the ultimate club meets bar. A must go on Saturdays.

Friendly waitress, terrible service- took over 40 mins for food to come on a not-that-busy Saturday night. Food was bland; my pork chop was too dry; and my friend's steak was well over-cooked. I don't regret coming here to try it once, but compared to many other restaurants in Boston with a similar price range, this place is far from being great.

WORST NACHOS EVER - microwaved NACHOS, to be exact. Chips were soggy, cheese I think was cheese wiz, very little fixings. I had to ask for a side of pico de gallo and BROWN salsa (BROWN). Chicken was very dry. We got our food first, then our napkins and silverware - umm hello? Service was very poor and they were out of Sam Summer - really! They were also out of a tequila I had ordered and the waitress came back and said she could offer us a more expensive one - what? I think these waitresses need some hardcore training, including the bartender. I'll never go back and would not recommend this place to anyone.

  • Gonzalo B.

Yeah, they made the place look good. Big deal. The waitstaff average age is 19, and most seem never to have had a restaurant job before. I'm sure the big group of Investors cares. They figure 'Quincy Market, Tourists...' Never see 'em again. Good business plan. Ever order something like, say, a Portobello mushroom taco that had...no mushrooms? Try it here. It had black beans which had been ladled with something like 4 tablespoons of SALT. And lots of onions. That was it. Lobster taco? Please. Don't. They have better lobster in Rapid City. This was dry, rubbery, and tasteless. The fish taco, the shrimp taco, were, well, okay. I think the best thing that comes out of that 'kitchen' is the chips and salsa. We ordered the 'mussels' appetizer. Big mistake. There were no mussels in the mussels. You can't make this stuff up. They were empty. I asked our high school waiter about it. he shrugged, said something like 'wow' - and left them on the bill. Whoever is in that kitchen should be dope- slapped for being there. Management? As they say on Yelp for a one-star disaster...Eek! methinks not. With a dozen exclamation marks. !!!!!!!!!!!!

This review is based on drinks only. I went to Mija on a Friday night hoping to sip some good tequila. The way we sip tequila in Mexico is with sangrita, which is basically a tomato juice-based chaser. When I asked for a shot of tequila with a shot of sangrita, the waitress had no idea what I was talking about. She asked the bartender who also had no idea about this. You cannot call yourself a Tequila Bar if you don't offer sangrita. It is not hard to get, it's not even alcoholic and every single bar in Mexico makes its own sangrita. All of the other tequila bars in Boston have it too. I ordered a vodka & soda instead and a friend ordered a mojito. the mojito was awful. It was made with syrup instead of sugar. And it had a LOT of syrup. We had to send it back. If you go for drinks here, just be safe and order classic cocktails or wine. This is not the place to have a real tequila experience.

This is the worst Mexican food and drinks I have had in my life. Hands down. And for such a prime location, FOR SHAME!! The margaritas were disgusting, the food was bland, and at one point I'm pretty sure I puked in my mouth. Do NOT go here. You seriously could have better Mexican food at a food stand at 4am.

One of the worst lunches I've had in a very long time. I had noticed this place about a month ago when I was walking through fanueil hall and as a mexican food lover and north end resident I was extremely excited at the possibility of having margaritas + tacos within walking distance. I will preface this by saying it was opening weekend so I'm sure things need to be worked out, but the entire experience was horrible. We walked over for lunch around 1:30 or so. We ordered margaritas, taquitos for an appetizer, and four tacos (mahi mahi, spicy tuna, two chicken tacos to split between us both). During the entire time at Mija, we were not brought over water or chips. It took about 15 minutes to get our drinks, followed immediately by luke warm, pretty bad taquitos. it took 45 minutes to get the four tacos. The manager did send us over a round of drinks for the wait but 45 minutes to make 4 small tacos? Once they finally came out neither of us could believe how bad they were. The soft tortilla shells were stale tasting and hard and not a single one of the tacos we had were finished. I will say that our waitress was very courteous and trying to help out. The bill came to 65.00, for an awful lunch. I will not return even though myself and many friends in the north end were looking forward to this place.

OMG! BAD, BAD, & REALLY BAD!!! Not sure where to begin, I sat at the bar and it took almost 15 min to get noticed, this with only 6 or 7 people at the bar, finally I was asked if I wanted a drink, the waitstaff is so pretty, the boys & girls, that it seems they have forgotten they are "WORKING", maybe the owner only hires good looking peeps to divert the attention off the bad food and bad service, the booze is good, but the food, ugh, my fish taco was so dry I thought it was chicken, and the salsa is "BROWN" are you kidding?? have you ever seen brown salsa? that is criminal, to make matters worse when I asked what was in it and why was it brown nobody knew a thing, just blank dumb stares, I suggest you go anywhere but Mija!!

We had a GREAT time here on a Sunday evening. It was not crowded but there were enough people to give it a fun vibe. It was HOT out but the staff all were very upbeat and welcoming. I thought the tacos were a good value; I just don't get the reviews about the prices. We looked a couple of other places and this seemed like a good deal, which it was. We started with just chips and salsa but they gave us three kinds of salsa and that was fun. I got an ahi tuna taco that was mad spicy and I loved it! I also got a salad that was to die for! Fried manchego cheese, greens, citrus dressing=yummy!! I was overwhelmed with the tequila offerings so I just got a glass of wine, but it was a very generous pour. Both the waitress and I commented on it, so I can't imagine it's that huge all the time but I was VERY happy! All in all we had a very nice experience I will definitely be back.

Never will eat there again! Fine for a margarita but that's it. To start, we ordered their queso- and unless you want a pan of plain melted cheese, wouldn't order and waste your 7 dollars. I got a flank steak quesadilla, in which the steak was half cooked and quite fatty. My sister got the steak tacos, again half cooked fatty meat. Their "aoili flavored fries" are what you'd receive at friendlys, and they were the best part of the meal. margarita was good, but I'll keep it to drinks from now on if I go back. So disappointing because when you live in the North End you do get sick of Italian!

Not what I was expecting!! Seafood taco's have tiny portions. And I think are frozen not fresh. I ordered lobster taco came with bits of lobster and cabbage that ALL!!!! and 13 bucks. Bartenders are not very good at making drinks although they are a good looking staff. Must have been hired for that reason only. I hate to write a bad review but I just had greater expectations I think.

I was really excited about opening of a new Mexican joint so close to my neighborhood. The restaurant is located in Fenueil Hall and also for that reason I thought it may be overpriced and too touristy. I decided to give it a try and went there for lunch on Monday afternoon. The weather was beautiful on that day so we asked to be seated out on the patio. The waitress was friendly, though she forgot to order our appetizers, so we decided to order. The food was very mediocre. I had 3 different kinds of tacos: spicy ahi, grilled mahi-mahi and shrimp. Unfortunately I was no impressed by the food. Everything was bland and lacking flavor. Since it was Monday afternoon we did not try their margaritas. I will come back to get a drink, but I won't dine here again.

I'd actually give this place zero stars, but that isn't an option. I'm extremely disappointed in the poor service we received this weekend. I and a large group of friends attended your bar under the impression that we would be attending an after work party and we would not have to pay cover. While I understand that things were busy because of the early St Patty's crowd, Brooke should have communicated that the promised party (and no cover charge) would not be in effect. Instead, we found out at the door that there was no such party and to pay up. Rather than communicate or send some sort of apology for the mistake, Mija's decided to blame the party organizer when she asked what had happened. Brooke (on behalf of Mija's) just said that they were busy over St Patty's day and she had notified the party organizer that they would be busy so perhaps she should reschedule. At no point was it communicated that the party was simply not scheduled. Brooke has handled this very avoidable situation terribly. She offered a $50 gift card to the party's organizer or a 'special' meal (not a complimentary meal). Based on past experience, I highly doubt that either of these options would ever materialize. I understand that people make mistakes and bars get very crowded around St Patty's day. However, how you apologize is what differentiates your establishment from others. Your apathetic attitude and lack of effort to correct your mistake are quite appalling. I will not come to your bar again.

Dont bother going unless you are there for a happy hour, which is decent with $3 margaritias and half off apps. But even then, they are far too understaffed. Prepare to wait 20 minutes for a drink at the bar

The food was absolutely unbelievable, the service was seriously so impressive that my kids even noticed how incredible it was deffinitely a 5* Restaurant!!!

Been here a few times. The drinks are made on the stronger side, which is definitely a plus if you're paying $10.00 for a drink. After finding my usual drink is no longer available I've settled for the Lady in Red. I'm not one for tequila so I can't comment on 95% of the drink menu. However, I did notice a few people around cringe with their first sip of their margarita's. Nachos were amazing, little on the pricey side but can't really expect much else for the location. The loss of two stars goes to the waitresses and service. I've been here at least 4 times in the last 2 years and I have never had great service. The waitresses are not friendly, and all they do is socialize in the back and not pay attention to their tables. For example, we came on Sunday around 3pm, it took 45 minutes for nachos and a hot dog... I'd have to say that's a little ridiculous. We had to find our waitress and flag her down 4 times for refills, ketchup, and our bill. Another thing, I think the waitress' uniforms/ dresses get shorter every time I go there, I'm starting to feel like I'm not at a restaurant anymore and they're dressing for tips. I wouldn't recommend coming with kids, even my 8 year old sister mentioned something to my mom and I about the dresses. If you're looking to waste some time and not in any hurry, definitely stop here. But expect to wait a while for service unless you're sitting at the bar.

The location is the best thing about this place. It's a good meet up for after work or on the weekends during the day when it isn't too busy and nice outside. Our waitress and the manager walking around checking in with us were the saving grace of this place. The hostesses were horrible and obviously untrained. As soon as we walked in we seemed to annoy her and her first question was "Have you been here before?" When we asked to be seated for drinks and food she said she couldn't help us and that was someone else's job. It was very odd and made stranger by the attitude that came with it. We had the white sangria which was pretty darn good and medium strength. Not too fruity. The food was pretty good, although over-priced for what it was. It also took about 45 minutes to come out. Everything was clean and the place calmed down by 9:30pm. I've been to Zumas numerous times while living in Boston and would definitely go there more for the food and chill vibe. It's a very young 20s crowd and can get pretty rowdy early in the night.

HUGE tequila menu. Loved the margarita options. I had a regular margarita with the green rim (I don't recall the name of the specific rim), but it was tasty. We didn't eat, we just had the margaritas and that was good enough. We sat right at the bar, so service was decent. Not overly attentive, but just right. We didn't need much. It got busy, as it was early midday.

2.5 stars for expensive "happy hour" drinks. I've had their margarita and it was good but still overpriced at $5 for half a cup of ice although the drink itself was strong. The set up was poor as well with not much room for me and my friends. Luckily a worker or manager created an outdoor space for us and we appreciated it. On the whole, food and drinks here are expensive and I'd come here only if it was a very special occasion or just had my pay day.

Went back yet again since my boyfriend was in town and I knew I couldn't go wrong when bringing him to Mija & BOY I wasn't disappointed at all. We arrived a little bit past 11 pm and there was barely any line and it wasn't so crowded inside. They do have a $5 cover and its one of the cheapest covers I have seen around that area. I might just be really lucky but we got seats by the bar as we walked in. The music at Mija is always fantastic. Our bartender wasn't difficult to flag down and the drinks kept floating all night long. Mija is always an Amazing time, no doubt.

I'm not sure what is up with the other reviews, but I have to strongly disagree. Maybe Mija fired the old staff and hired new ones? I'm not sure, but I definitely did not share the same experience as others on here. I went here with a friend as a spur of the moment type deal. We got chips with guacamole for the appetizer, I got a virgin piña colada, and chicken quesadillas for my entrée (even though technically they were another appetizer). My friend got a margarita, a piña colada, and beef quesadillas. For dessert we got the churros with chocolate. The chips were good, and the guacamole was even better. The quesadillas were so filling and cheesy we didn't even order an entrée. My friend said her drinks were strong, and I loved my virgin piña coladas. The churros were so fresh, and the chocolate was warm and smooth. The decor was an interesting mix of western and modern. Our server Chrystina did a great job, and really made the evening pleasant. Our orders came out in a timely manner and were exactly what we wanted. The only small complaint I have is that my friend and I were going to sit at an outside table, but they had the heaters going (it's summer) and pointed directly at them. So we ended up sitting inside.

I am from New York. I have high expectation on Mexican food, 5 Of us in the party. Love the space. Used to be the Cheers space. Service was good. Tacos were edible. I had a steak burrito. It was horrible. No taste whats so ever. I am sure they will clean up their act. I want them to stay in business. Good location & good people watching spot.

Just average. Service was a 4 and a fun atmosphere in the market area. Signature margerita wasnt very good, watery and not tart or sweet. I didnt even drink half of it. Tinga tacos were a 3, but cheese dip we got with chips and salsa was lumpy and much like velveeta.

Food was good, service was terrible!! I had the taco salad and the avocado ranch dressing was great! My boyfriend had the quesadillas and he loved them! The service was awful!!!! We waited over 30 minutes for our check and we had to ask three times for them to bring it to us. The table next to us got the wrong food and didn't even get half of their order. They had to complain to the manager twice.

It was just one person in my party, about 8pm on a Wednesday night. The place was empty but there was a 40 minute wait. I sat at the bar and had a $4 basket of chips and salsa. The chips were not fresh and the salsa was different for sure. Not my thing. For dinner I ordered 2 steak tacos. Each came with about 4 little pieces of pico on them. No cheese? Really? They were good, had a little spice to it. Service was quick and friendly. I just can't give a better rating because it was empty, had no atmosphere, and while the food was solid, it wasn't worth the price. Plus everything has a mustard taste which is both unexplained and unnecessary.

This restaurant is in the busy Quincy Market/Faneuil Marketplace area. On our last day in Boston, we were deciding on lunch and opted for something that was non pub/non fish and chips and decided on this place. It was still early and they had just opened. This restaurant is very pleasing to the eye. All wood everything....a trend that doesn't seem to be ending. We were greeted rather blandly and led to a booth where a server eventually came out to greet us. She brought out a few waters and gave us time to decide on our order. When she came back we ordered an appetizer and told her we were actually ready to order our entrees as well. She took our order without writing down, then said she forgot her paper and pen, but then continued to take our order while asking us repeatedly what our orders were so that she would remember. Seemed a little silly to me as it would've probably taken 2 seconds to get a pen and paper . Our food came out fairly quickly. The guacamole and chips were excellent. The chips tasted so fresh and warm like they were just fried and definitely not out of the bag. Our tacos came out and my first observation was that they were all soft tacos. Even after we told our server twice we both wanted hard tacos. I didn't want to send them back for that so we just kept them. As a word of warning, these are small tacos- not Chipotle sized. And they sell the tacos ala carte. I would recommend ordering 2 to fill up. On the plus side, they are generous on the filling. I ordered 3 --- Yucatan shrimp, grilled fish and the chicken tinga. The Yucatan shrimp was good- loved the pickled red cabbage. The grilled fish taco was ok but they were heavy handed with the Dijon cilantro. I was so full after those two that I gave the chicken tinga taco to my husband. He didn't care for. Service was pretty much non existent. We had to flag down our server for a refill of water. The food was good but I can only imagine how service is when it's packed. It really was just an ok experience.

Great fish tacos. Chicken tacos are horrible! Great spicy guacamole. Fried calamari is okay! Good service, our food came very quickly!

Mija's definitely isn't the best Mexican in Faneuil Hall, but overall it's not terrible. You'd think a TEQUILA BAR could figure out how to make a great margaritas but the margs at Mija's are nasty. (Waaaaaay too sweet & the salt must be stuck on with simple syrup or something cause it's sticky, gooey and unpleasant) When I have to go here, I order beer. (And I'm usually a huge margarita fan.) The food is decent.. I find it to be a little over priced for what it is, but tastes pretty good. As for the service, the girls are good enough but have attitudes. Not pleasant. One of my least favorite parts about this is actually the atmosphere... You'd expect it to be a very chill, fun place, but each time I go the crowd is full of rowdy, drunk guys. And I'm a college student, I'm used to that! The ones here just seem out of place and extra rude for the scene they're in. If you're craving Mexican food & margaritas, I'd 100% suggest going to Zuma's instead!

Last night was my first experience at Mija and it will definitely be my last. I arrived with 3 people out of an 8 person reservation for 8:45. We weren't greeted by a waitress until 9:20 way after the rest of my party arrived. We are red a round of drinks as we were celebrating a birthday, the drinks didn't even arrive at the same time. We ordered appetizers that were very unsatisfactory and tasted rushed and arrived maybe 3 minutes before our entrees. As the night progressed our waitress would selectively forget certain drinks and things that we would ask for. Our entrees came out slowly over a 15 minute period at least 45 minutes after we ordered them. When we asked where our sides were the response from the waiter was that we had ran out at noon, so not only did you not have it but you waited until everyone got their food before informing me, because I didn't want something else instead?? When we ordered 8 shots of tequila that came out quickly and promptly though right? Then two people ordered the same drink and when she arrived 15 minutes later with the drinks and we notice that the drinks arrive in two different sized glasses we asked the waitress why this occurred was "oh, it's because they came from 2 different bars" she then quickly walked away and didn't turn back to even look for a response. We finally couldn't take anymore and asked to speak to a manager. The manager on was very nice but his excuses for the poor service were inadequate and didn't make up for the horrible experience. I've been in food service and hospitality since I could retain a job and I still can't wrap my head around how this actually happened. The only thing done that I even slightly appreciated was the 70$ removed from the bill

I come here a lot when my friends or I win their Happy Hour specials. It's cheap appetizers ($5 chicken quesadillas, $5 tacos or something like that) and $4 margaritas. It's a really fun place (loud, good music, young crowd) during Thursdays-Saturdays if you come with a group of friends - it's not somewhere I would recommend specifically for their food/drinks.

Only worth coming if you have one of those after work happy hour parties. $5 for a (mediocre) margarita and half-priced apps = not bad. But paying full price for anything wouldn't be worth it, and the bartenders are not very friendly. There's never a line for the bathroom, so I guess that's a plus.

Not very pleased with this place. Located inside Faneuil Hall in what seems to be a tent, we stopped here for drinks while waiting for dinner reservations. I ordered a watermelon jalapeno martini and my husband ordered the margarita. My martini tasted more like a jalapeno martini with a splash of watermelon juice. And although his tasted watery and flat, he still ordered a second one. Go figure. The wait staff were mostly gathered in the middle chatting while patrons round the bar were waiting for their order to be taken. Whike we didnt dine here, as the food came by we saw a lot of Tex-mex not very authentic dishes rolling by. Definitely not worth frequenting, even for drinks.

Pretty good food and drinks for a touristy area. I would come back if in the area!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
