Like its namesake, Bonapita guarantees some damn good pita (my friend and I both agreed that this was some of the best pita bread we ever had). Simple menu and quality ingredients deliver a delicious lunch. I opted for the meatballs with bean patties and also tried some of my friends mushroom and lentil salad mix. Everything was bomb. I imagine vegetarians will find this a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The restaurant itself harbors a much more upscale feel than you would expect for a simple Mediterranean locale. The sign outside the restrooms is a delight [Men to left because women are always right]. Laughs. If you think that this place is expensive...sorry friend, you're just cheap. My meal was roughly $10 including a bottled water. This doesn't even buy you a salad at Sweetgreen. Lastly, no wallet? No problem. They take LevelUP.

Bonapita's just okay. If you're a vegetarian and don't like mushrooms, I wouldn't recommend this place. However, my meat-loving friends really like this place, so I'm guessing their meat options are better. Vegetarians only have two options here for a main dish/protein. First - the lentils/mushroom mix. I got this once thinking I could just pick out the mushrooms (vile fungus) but that was a waste because its basically half mushrooms, which meant I threw out almost half of my meal. The other vegetarian option is the black bean/beet patties that sound good in concept but unfortunately lack flavor and are pretty mushy. I had to douse them in hot sauce to get any flavor and while their hot sauce is awesome, it's not all I want to taste. Now let's talk about the ways to get your main dish - salad ($8), rice plate ($8.50), and filled pita ($7). If you're hungry (and I am always hungry), their salad (which is tasty, but really just lettuce with dressing and your topping) and filled pita (so small, I probably need two to be a full meal) weren't enough to sustain me all day. The rice plate with the veggies was good and provided more sustenance, but since my "protein" options are lacking, this doesn't work for me either as I don't enjoy the rest of what's on my plate. At least their pitas are freakin awesome, but too bad I'm not really one to just eat pitas for lunch. Alas, when my coworkers head to Bonapita I no longer join them as I've tried several combinations of my limited vegetarian options and always ended up unsatisfied and a little too hungry a few hours later.

Good lunch spot in the area, although a bit on the expensive side. Still, it seems high quality so it's certainly not a rip-off. +Fresh pitas +Fresh everything, really +Veggie options +Meatballs are tasty! +Service is super friendly -No falafel :( -ordering area gets crowded and chaotic

3.48176 stars The Cathedral of Pita. You can Toss it, Fill it, or Plate it, oh my! Ordering is a cue card party game, follow the signs and you'll be alright. I'm partial to the veggie items. Black Beans and Beets Patties (Fill it) or the Mushroom Lentils and Thyme (Plate it). Fresh ingredients, robust flavors and a divine green hot sauce, make a great meal. They have ample seating although it's a little close but comfortable. The decor is modern loft style or ductwork chic take you pick. Love the open kitchen with the barking of orders, not chaotic just busy at times. * parking, not bloody likely. Well maybe the Winthrop Sq. garage. Still caught up with the rampant construction, not a place for your auto. * prices are in line with the other Middle Eastern places. Perhaps a slight premium, worth it imho. * Once you get the hang of it, it's quite efficient.

Yeah this place is fun. 4 fillings, 3 or 4 ways to have them served. Soup too I think. I had meatballs in the pita. College guys will be thrilled with the portions - yet they fill the pita with lots of fresh crunchy veggies so it feels light! The pita has a nice chewy consistency which is how all pitas should be. Really good. Order at the counter. Not fancy but yummy.

I'm here at least once a week for lunch. Important to know: it's not just another falafel place. Doubly important to know: They bake their own pitas on site. They are fluffy, pillowy discs of deliciousness. All other Mediterranean places should be embarrassed to serve the stiff, paper-thin, flavorless pitas they try to pass off on us. The mushroom and lentil is delicious and one of the absolute top vegan lunch options outside of Chinatown. The tomato salsa thingy they give you if you get the fill it option is AMAZING. Also, the hot sauce is fantastic. Black bean balls are good too. Sometimes I come in and just get a bag of pitas and a tub of their delicious hummus. They used to also offer the best baba ghanoush in Boston, but they've stopped selling that for some reason. My meat-eating friends tell me the meatballs are also delicious. Great lunch option.

Upon starting my new gig in Downtown Crossing, I actually came across some article in Boston.com about some special Bonapita had going on and since I had no idea where I was going at the time and Bonapita was a 45 second walk from my office building, it ended up being a perfect match kicked off a very healthy (and tasty) lunch time marriage. So 6 months in, I've tried everything except the bean & beets pattie option and I've never been let down once. The staff here is super nice and speedy. It even seems like they have a crew of Middle Eastern/Arabic folks in open kitchen area and from the looks of it, they make everything by hand which I guess explains why everything on the menu is lights out. I'm good for one "fill-it" Bonapita meatball a week, sometimes 2. The soups they crank out are up there with this hole in the wall Arab place I use to live by. Plenty of seating, even during the lunch rush and smack in the middle of DTX makes this place easy to get to for most. $10 gets you either a "plate it", "fill it" or "toss it" with a drink and you're really all set for lunch. I guess this place is a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean version of a Chipolte or Bolocco, just tastier and better.

This was amazing the first time I went there! Being a huge falafel person I was excited about the variation. My coworker got the chicken and it was amazing as well. And the hot sauce....terrifically spicy....which I find is quite rare with 'hot sauce' at most places. The pita itself is superb as well! I went back today and got the meatballs on a salad, since I had tried the others. When I got back to my office, the meatballs appeared to be uncooked. I naturally looked on yelp and was disappointed to see that this has been a problem with quite a few people. I have slow cooked meatballs plenty of times and they have never looked raw to me like these. It was a bit unsettling. I microwaved them and are my lunch, but it certainly wasn't the best experience. I don't know how soon I will be revisiting Bonapita.

I CANNOT EAT GROCERY STORE PITA EVER AGAIN!!! This place is phenomenal!! Everything is flavorful, fresh and tasty. The owner and his staff are very accommodating. I will definitely be back!

For the lunch crowd (they are open Monday - Friday 11:30am - 4:00pm), Bonapita offers their meals in three formats: Fill It $6.99 - Fresh Baked Pita, Chopped Vegetables, Tahini Sauce, Fresh Spicy Tomatoes Plate it $8.49 - Basmati & Wild Rice, Carmelized Onions, Oven Cooked Vegetables, Comes with Pita Toss It $7.99 - Crisp Mix Lettuce, Chopped Vegetables, Lemon Olive Oil Dressing, Comes with Pita I picked up a "Taste of Bonapita" punch card on one of those deal sites which granted me the opportunity to have a "Toss It," "Plate It" and "Fill It" for the grand total of $15, tax included, with an non-alcoholic beverage accompanying each entrée. With four protein choices before me and three presentation options, I decided I'd try them in the following combinations: Chicken a la Plancha as a salad (Toss It) Marinated over night in BONAPITA Spice Mix, Roasted & Cooked on a Blazing Hot Plancha (grill). Mushrooms, Lentil and Thyme as a rice plate (Plate It) Cremini Mushrooms and cooked Lentil sautéed to order and sprinkled with fresh Thyme. Black Bean & Beets Patties as a stuffed pita (Fill It) Mixed ground Black Bean and Beets with a touch of Garlic, Rolled and seared to perfection. And if all went well, I'd go back to try the last but not least to complete the Bonapita experience: Bonapita Meatballs Homemade Tender meatballs (all beef) Slow Cooked with Lemon and Fine Herbs. Admittedly, I was a bit nervous about the Fresh Spicy Tomatoes in their "Fill It" pita - afterall, just how spicy was it going to be? But when I asked, they said nothing they offered was spicy. That just might be the case since they do offer hot sauce on the side. *** 12/2014 Visit #1 *** My first visit was on a wet and chilly windy day, so I opted for something hopefully a bit more warming - the mushroom as a plate $8.49. I liked the rice. In fact, everything was well flavored, though the protein was more lentil and less mushroom. Bad for your average mushroom lover, good for me, a mushroom hesitant. The veggies were mostly okay, with the exception of the undercooked potato chunks. Perhaps if they cut the root vegetable smaller? The pita that came with was a plump specimen of about 4 inches in diameter. For my drink, I was encouraged to take my pick from their fridge to my right. I also saw a sign that said any drink with a meal was another $1.49. I noticed Pepsi products, ice tea, and my selection, a sparkling fruitwater - strawberry kiwi to be exact. I'm not sure I'd get the mushroom lentil again, but I'm not sorry I tried it. *** 1/2015 Visit #2/2b *** For this wintry day I went with the black bean and beet patties in a stuffed pita. It came on a paper tray with a side of tahini and another one of spicy tomato, stuffed in a clear plastic bag once they knew it was for to-go. The patty was purple. It was okay, but not very flavorful. Not even after I added both the sauces offered. I would have been okay with it though except I found it wasn't exactly as ordered, so I made a return trip and decided to go with the beef meatball as a stuff it instead. I appreciated that the gal manning the single register tried to make amends by offering me a free drink from the case. The meatball counted 4 in my pita - 2 inside, and two sticking out from the mouth of the sandwich. The balls were very soft - too soft for me since I rather enjoy a contrast of textures in my sandwiches. Also on the bland side. But I loved the fluffy pita and the diced crisp fresh veggies. *** 2/2015 visit #3 *** I've found the winning protein! I ordered up the Chicken a la Plancha in Toss It form and received a bowl of fresh romaine lettuce with diced cucumber and tomatoes ringed by tender pieces of chicken accompanied by some rather tasty grilled onions. There was a creamy substance on top and a pool of dressing at the bottom of the bowl, so you'd have to toss it a bit if you wish for it to be better mixed. My pita was a bit burnt in spots, which wasn't pleasant, but I picked off the blackened spots and made do. Okay, chicken salad or chicken pita it is!

Delicious food with a healthy blend of proteins and veggies. Ever since my first time here, I've found myself periodically craving for their food. I have had the chicken, mushroom lentil, and of course the pita itself. Definitely worth a try! The service is also quick and friendly.

This is my first time visiting Bonapita and I am still sitting in the restaurant reminiscing of my amazing meal! The fact I can't get out of my seat without leaving a review speaks to how happy I am to have discovered this hidden gem! I ordered the Chicken a La Plancha and I am a little too embarrassed to order a second one! It was that terrific!! I am middle-eastern and have tried and tested middle-eastern places in every nook and cranny of this town and Bonapita receives the #1 spot in my opinion. Additionally, the pita bread reminded me of the authentic kinds I have found in the middle-east, and for that reason I took home a bag of pitas to go! Owners were so kind and warm to their guests! They even took the time to come to your table and ask if everything was okay! The quality of food is above and beyond most places I have tried and now the friendly atmosphere of the restaurant will bring me back here again and again!

I am slightly obsessed with this place...I eat here almost every day now and still go home dreaming of their pitas. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but the meatballs and extra hot sauce get my vote!

This place is a great addition to the area and a perfect place if you are looking for something that is both healthy and filling. The service here is great and extremely professional for a "fast food" restaurant. The cooks and servers approach each dish as they would in a formal restaurant. The kitchen is in open view so you can see what is going on and it is very clean. I've had their chicken a la plancha every way they make it, Plate It, Fill It (in a pita_ and Toss It (in a salad). I prefer the Plate It, because their veggies are awesome and filling. I've also had the meatballs, but really prefer the chicken. If you are trying to go low carb, do not try the pita because it is AWESOME! I also love that they have jalapenos for you to add to your dish and their special hot sauce is AWESOME. They should bottle that stuff. It would be the next sriacha.

Disclaimer - I haven't been to the place on Franklin Street, but they came to my business and set up shop. I would assume that since it was delicious on the road, it would be as good or better at the restaurant. I had the Chicken a la plancha, rice, and salad and thought it was fantastic. I really enjoyed the tahini sauce on the salad - it tasted so fresh! The green spicy sauce had a great kick to it, and also tasted very fresh. Finally, I had a pita, it was one of the best I have ever had; be sure to get one when you visit!

First visit to Bonapita and I am hooked. I unfortunately don't live in Boston to enjoy this Mediterranean goodness on a weekly basis. The pitas make it immediately clear that they are made from high quality ingredients. The entree options are creative, diverse, and healthy. Did I mention incredibly tasty? Healthy & tasty...its apparent now that's possible. If great food (and prices) wasn't enough, you'll find a refreshing experience with genuine hospitality. The owner is not only extremely talented to make such incredible experience for customers but also generous. A rare gem.

I came in for the first time today with a co-worker and the chicken a la plancha (toss it option) and was super impressed! The veggies were fresh, the chicken was flavorful, and the pita was amazing! I will definitely be back!!

This is my first time here even though I walk past it on a regular basis. I walked in before and was a bit confused and left. Today I decided I was going to figure it out. I gave it four stars only because it was a bit confusing. I didn't know what was in it or what to really do. With that being said, the staff was fantastic. They were extremely helpful and super nice. Now to the food...amazing! I got the pita with chicken...I ate the whole thing without any dressing. It is so full of flavor that you really don't need it. The pita was so fresh, light and fluffy. Now that I know what to do, I will definitely go back. This will be a go to place for sure.

I have to admit- I don't even know what I was eating but it was delicious. I got a chicken pita pocket filled greatness and the pita was soft and the chicken was flavorful. I didn't even know it was at downtown crossing! It was tasty and service is fast.

This place doesn't look like much, but their food is awesome. It is flavorful the way that food should be! Not chemicals or added flavors. It is fresh, healthy, and hits the spot.

I came here spur the moment with a friend during our lunch breaks today. Neither of us knew what to expect and we were very pleased to say the least. The decor and atmosphere is adorable! I loved the furnature and the cieling is really cool, too! As for the food, we both got the "Toss It" (salad) with chicken. The chicken had really good flavor and our bowls were SO big! The pita bread came out warm and fluffy (my fav)... Everyone working there was really friendly. Service was fast, although we ended up sitting and chatting for a while. Side note -- get extra hot sauce! It's sooo good but very spicy.

The restaurant owner and chef showed us what boston hospitality was really about. They not only showed explained to us how everything was made and what we could personally customize to make it better, but also gave us FREE things to try. Ambiance: Modern and clean decor. Very crisp interior. Food: Plate the MEATBALL! Enormous amount of very finger licking good food. Come here for great ambiance, customer service, on the budget or on the go food.

Love this new downtown lunch spot. Lively, quick, friendly staff--and great food. It's not a big menu. Bonapita offers four Mediterranean style choices, two with meat, two vegetarian, in a pocket, a plate or a salad. Soups round out the choices. Nice portions, fresh ingredients, great flavors, home made hot sauce--all good. Space to sit and talk, or take it to go. I'm now a regular.

It is so hard to find good places to eat in the downtown area, and I am so picky. This is definitely one of them. Their pita bread is amazing, not like the stuff you get at other places, freshly baked right there! I did their "toss it", basically a salad with 1 of several choices. They also allow you to mix choices. I got chicken, but, for instance, you can get chicken and meatball. They have vegetarian choices as well. Excellent value for the price. I think the taste is amazing, a nice richness and complexity of flavor, while at the same time very light and satisfying. I actually find the taste a bit hard to describe. Very carb friendly too without the bread.

This place is Chipotle meets the Mediterranean. Chicken, meatball, black bran & beets patties, or mushroom, lentils & thyme. Fill it, plate it or toss it. Says it all. Glad I happened upon this joint on a cold snowy day. The mushroom, lentils over salad was a filling yet light lunch, full of flavor with every bite. Add some of their homemade hot sauce if you like spice and if the freshly baked doughy pita bread wasn't enough to warm you up. I highly recommend this place for the relaxed yet cool atmosphere. I'll be back.

I went to Bonapita for lunch for the first time today. The food was tasty and healthy. The menu is simple with three or four different entrees. I ordered the Chicken a la Plancha plate to go. The meal came with chicken, rice, and vegetables. It consisted of shredded chicken that had been marinated with incredibly tasty spices. It was a unique dish that isn't like anything I've had before. The vegetables included a mixture of zucchini, potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplant. This, too, was cooked in a very good sauce making these vegetables unusually tasty. (If you don't like vegetables, you should try this. You might change your mind!) The white rice was infused with a subtle flavor that made it much more than typical rice. The meal came with a unique puffed type of pita bread. It, too, was much better than your typical pita bread. The total cost with tax was reasonable at $9.08. Since I ordered it to go, it was put in a container with utensils and in a bag along with an optional green hot sauce. The food is already excellent and does not need any hot sauce. I very much look forward to returning to the restaurant.

Standing outside the Franklin Street location there was a man handing out what can only be described as the best pita I have ever had. It was still warm and fresh and smelled so enticing that yes, sure, I will head inside after that. Then I walk in and BAM the place is GORGEOUS. I guess it used to be a chapel? Or something that required a heavily ornate ceiling and patterned walls, regardless it is stunning inside. The menu is simple four fillings: two meat, two veg, and three options: stuffed in the pita, plated, or on salad. I opted for the mushroom/lentil/thyme plate which came with basmati rice and incredibly delicious veggies. Adding a Mexican Sprite brought my total near $10 and it was well worth it. There are some kinks to be worked out as they mature (the to-go bag was a paper grocery sack which is to say HUGE) but I think that they have a good thing going here and the folks in my office are currently raving about it so that says a lot. Looking forward to my next visit which will likely be shorty I after I post this.

The bean and beet salad was good and I would have preferred another dressing besides what they offer. I added some hot sauce to add more flavor. Amazing pita bread. Next time ill try mishrooms and lentils. Super clean bathrooms. As soon as a foursome got up to leave, someone wiped down the table and adjusted the chairs. Love to see that.

Not only the best pita you have ever tasted, warm, soft and delicious but the rest of the ingredients are of superb quality. I had the meatballs, they are so tender and juicy they melt in your mouth. They appear to be lighter colored than expected, because meat is sealed and then simmered for more than 4 to 5 hours . It is not deep fried. So it is healthy and authentic Mediterranean food. Add this to a good price and you've got a great find in the financial district for easy, healthy, yummy food! if you like vegetables, i had the mushroom and lentil filled pita and have gone back twice for it.

My new favorite lunch spot near downtown crossing. Today was my first time here but I felt totally at ease with their easy menu -- and the food was delicious. The seating area was also a great spot in a busy downtown area for a conversation even though this place was very busy during lunch.

For our office Holiday Party we had Bonapita cater our lunch. They have amazing food and the owner delivered it personally! Can't say enough about how great their food is- and their restaurant has a great ambiance too!

I've eaten at probably 50 falafel places between New York, Boston, Washington DC, San Francisco and other cities and this is the BEST one. Some of my favorite highlights: 1. Bonapita's pitas are made and baked on site and have a heavenly taste and are fresher than any pitas I've had elsewhere (including in New York City). The pitas are so good that they sell bags of them for you to take home. 2. Salad in the pita pockets is very fresh, made on the same day, containing not just lettuce and tomato but also cucumbers and more. 3. The black bean and pita patties I ate rocked because they were crispy like regular falafels yet I didn't taste a trace of oil. So many other falafel places deep fry and you get soggy falafels, but Bonapita seems to bake and maybe grill cook the patties instead so there is very little to no oil. I get the feeling that this is a chef-owned restaurant where every ingredient has been crafted. Yet I spent less than $8. I hear that at lunch time on weekdays there is often a line out the door and I can understand why. It's that GOOD.

by far the best PITA I've ever eaten!! Chicken a la Plancha hit the spot! and some great hummus and eggplant spread to finish off the meal! Whenever I'm within 5 miles, I'm definitely going to stop here again!

I could rave about Bonapita all day! Having Middle Eastern heritage, pita and hummus are my comfort food and this place is my fix. The options are pretty healthy and extremely filling. I always get the salad with meatballs and extra tahini on the side. Oh and you cannot leave out the hot sauce - it's authentic srug! I love that the salad is lightly dressed with lemon/oil and the portion for meatballs is huge. The staff is very nice and accommodating. I recently wanted to try the black bean patty but couldn't not order my meatballs so they were nice enough to give me one to try at no additional cost (although I was willing to pay). I also had leftovers to bring home so they gave me extra pita for later and a dessert to taste. You can tell they just really want people to enjoy the experience. I really hope this place takes off so there will be more around the city!

Very high quality and flavorful. A major addition to the area. The options are few because they are such good quality. Cool atmosphere too. Healthy offerings. This place is going to be very very popular.

Honest food review. European with a strong food industry background. This place has 4 different choices of "fillings" for your pita, which you can also choose to toss or plate. I'm going to start saying that I tried all 4 options but only with the "pita sandwich". Starting with the marinated chicken I'd give 4 points to that, the flavor is ok, fills you up decently and there's not much more to say about it. Probably the best choice they have. The vegan choice (Mushrooms and lentils) is good. Balanced flavors, interesting consistency. Overall a 4. Then we get to the bad part. The meatballs choice is not ok. Everytime I had it, it tasted different, or it didn't really taste.. This is definitely a 2. Last we have the black beans and beet patties, more like cilantro and cilantro patties. That's all you can taste. Cilantro. This is a 1. Now talking about the rest, whenever you order a pita you get crunchy fresh veggies that help a lot with the mushiness of their main ingredients. But being a Mediterranean oriented place I would have expected those veggies to be seasoned simply with salt and olive oil. Instead, if you are left at the end of the pita with a mouthful of vinegar. Lastly the pita. I've lived in Greece for over a year and traveled all over. That said the pita in my opinion is either too undercooked or the flour they are using is no good. I must say this is a strongly Americanized version of Greek food. But why do that? Greek has a pretty simple but exquisite cuisine. If the owner would have kept his roots he would have done a great job. Too bad he had to or wanted to adapt his menu. Filled pita is something you want to eat every day in Greece and never get tired. I've been to this place many times just to write a honest review, but honestly, it doesn't want me go back again to get another pita.

The place is very cozy. Friendly employees and the owner is right there, making sure everything is good. The pita bread is delicious, being Middle Eastern I know exactly how freshly made Pita Bread is. I also appreciated how clean and well taken care of the place is.

Maybe I'm cranky because I had a 12-hour workday today and didn't get to eat lunch until 3 PM. But, when I did go to get lunch at 3 PM, I made the unfortunate choice of trying Bonapita. There was nobody else at the restaurant when I arrived. It's a cool space (check out the ceiling), but I'm not sure who made the decision to show America's Funniest Home Videos on the TVs. I go to place my order and ask which dishes are vegan. The cashier explains that the black bean patties and lentil mushroom are vegan. I look at the menu and one is labelled "v" and another "vg." So I ask why they're labelled differently if they're both vegan. She asks someone else. Apparently one of the dishes uses egg as a binder. I choose what I thought was the vegan option (why would I be inquiring otherwise?). I ask what she prefers between the sandwich, salad, and plate options. She says the plate, so I opt for that. I sit down to wait, and watch the three, then four, employees behind the counter gossip and do anything but make my food in a timely manner. I had work to get back to, and I expect downtown takeout options to be fast. This was not, despite the fact that I was the only person in the restaurant. I make eye contact with the cashier who asks her coworker if my food was ready. He replied that the patties were still frying. Finally, I get my food and grab some hot sauce. I get back to my desk and open the plate and it looks thoroughly disappointing. When I taste it, it doesn't taste much better. The rice was hard, and the plate was dry overall. But the icing on the cake was when I looked at the pictures on the Yelp page and realized that the lentil dish is not in patty-form. In other words, if my logic is correct, the dish with the egg as binder is the black bean patties that I ate, and the vegan dish is the lentil dish. So, despite the fact that I made special care to ask about vegan dishes, I somehow ended up with something non-vegan. I was not pleased. Needing to finish a bunch of work and having no time to get something else, I pretend I didn't come to this conclusion, covered the rest of the dish in the oily hot sauce, and eat it as fast as possible. Please don't tell the vegan police. Overall, I have no idea how this place is so highly rated. The food nor the customer service was anywhere near adequate. The only positive is that there is a vegan option, if you can figure out which is which.

Noticed this place coming soon, and couldn't wait for it to open! The building always looked amazing from the outside but never seemed to house anything worth remembering...until now... Well, it finally arrived at some point recently and I just hit it for the first time today - and let me say, the facade is only the starting point...you HAVE to wander in and see the space to really get what I mean. To the important part though: the food. At first, it feels like a small selection...but take a second to read the menu, and you'll see you have options for a pita sandwich, a plate, or a salad with either chicken/meatballs/veggies/vegan-option. Combos galore! But...the pita...the pita...the pita. I ate one while waiting for my food. I ate another with my food. And I almost bought a 4-pack to take home with me and work through tonight. I would like them to extend that pita conveyer belt they have directly to my desk at work, pretty please. Outside of that beloved pita, the food was great. I got a plate, with a lightly curried chicken, and it included an assortment of grilled veggies (red peppers, onion, potato, eggplant, squash, maybe sweet potato?) that was delightful, along with a side of rice. Very tasty all around, if not subtly spiced...I just added a little hot sauce to kick it to my desired notch level. Portions are reasonable - not too large, but definitely filling for a normal human being. And delicious...I'll be going back!! Breakfast looked like it was coming soon...and an egg in that blessed pita may outseat the similar Clover option...we'll see when that arrives...

Super tasty Mediterranean style spiced meatball pita stuffed with greens - nothing like Italian/marinara style and that's a refreshing change. Good location in Downtown Crossing for lunch. Just note the menu is very small. Pop music plays but not too loud. Plenty of seating. Good value for stuffed pita $7 even though you can get a cheaper chickpea meatball one at a food truck that's often in the area. This one's heartier. They also sell their own hummus to go for only $3.

Was in Boston for business trip and stopped by Bonapita for lunch. I eat out every day and travel a lot for work. This place stood out with its excellent food, friendly staff, and interior design with a lot of attention to details (check out the ceiling). Contrary to typical menus that confuse you with dozens of options (especially when you in a rush), Bonapita's menu is simple and easy to understand. I ordered a meatball plate with pita bread and soup. The food was delicious and fresh with great spices. Pita bread was amazing and I ended up buying some for home. This is my top choice for lunch when I back in Boston.

I so very much wanted to be able to give this place a great review. The place is beautiful- clean as a whistle, a fantastically inviting decor coupled with an owner willing to come out & chat with you, guide you through the order process- so likable you just want him to succeed.... I have a coworker obsessed with the place- goes almost every work day even so I couldn't wait to give it a try. My initial opinion was A-OK based on everything written above. Then I took my chicken pita across the street to my desk and was totally bummed out by lack of seasoning and a lot of hype. I could care less about the $8- I do care about the basics. Not a pinch of salt or pepper to anything? Really? it just had no taste- bland, bland, bland. The manner in which the pita was stuffed forced it to turn quickly to mush and break apart as I attempted to bite into something I liked.. Bottom stuffed with chicken, middle cold veggies (crisp, fresh, but cold and not seasoned whatsoever) and top stuffed with chicken again. I can say only this: great service a beautiful spot and an eager owner willing to make you feel welcome. Too bad the food doesn't live up.

I had lunch at Bonapita the other day, and was not overly impressed. To start with the positives, the employees at the counter were very friendly and knowledgeable. I could see the pita bread being made fresh and coming out nice and hot for each customer. The pita bread is definitely the best I have ever had. I ordered a salad with meatballs. The meatballs were just ok; I felt they were lacking in flavor. There really wasn't much to the salad other than lettuce and a few vegetables. It was all very average. That being said, I would absolutely return to try some of the other menu items.

Very tasty and cheap food. Roomy place. Fast ordering and cooking. Food is amazing. I took fill in chicken balls in freshly baked pita. There is the best pita I tried.

Very good! The soup and hummus were both fantastic.....And holy god the meatballs were made to perfection. One of the guys who may have been the chef was very friendly and helped with ordering. Loved everything that I tried.

My company held their Xmas party here before moving on to see "Blue Man Group". The food was superb. I had the mushroom, Lentil and Thyme plate and it awesome. For the record, I am not a vegetarian but I have been back to get this dish again twice. The meatballs are also great. Great staff and service. I will continue to here again and again. The fresh pita is a must try as well.

I have given this place three chances . Every time I am a few bites in, I feel sick to my stomach. The only thing good about this place is their pita

Full disclosure: I didn't want to write this review while I was working around the corner, because i was selfish and didn't want this place to become too popular. I have since moved on and can spill my guts. This was my favorite lunch spot in downtown. Out of all the 37 Mediterranean restaurants in DTX Bonapita is the freshest, most satisfying, and highest quality establishment of them all. Here are the highlights: - Freshness: starting from the pita which is the best in the city, all the ingredients at BP taste like they're fresh. You know how sometimes you can leave a lunch feeling overly full and lethargic, that won't happen to you at BP, the portions are perfectly sized. -Aesthetics: Good building to walk into. Quick service. Abundant hot sauce available. -Pro Tips: My usual order was the salad, and usually with the beet patties, or chicken. Can't go wrong with either. ' For a reasonably priced, tasty lunch in the area, you can't beat Bonapita.

Went for the first time today. Not crowded but they were having trouble keeping up with filling the orders. I ordered the meatball sandwich. I planned to eat at my desk. The first bite tasted great - the pita was soft and warm and the flavors really good, but the consistency wasn't right. I sliced open the meatballs and found that they were not cooked through. It seems that their pan heat was too high because they were nicely browned on the outside but barely past the outer edge the meat was pink. It was cool and felt raw to the touch. I don't have time to go back but will try to speak with them tomorrow.

I work near Bonapita and decided to check it out with a co-worker. You can either fill it, toss it or plate it. The menu with the description of the food should have been placed closer to the order line. There is only 4 options, I decided to go with the fill it chicken a la plancha. The chicken was marinated overnight in spiced then roasted and cooked. You can sauces with it. I thought it was good but had some bones in it. The fill it was about $8. Not too bad. My friend got a plate it and that was about $11. This place was good but not one of my top favorite places for around work.

The perfect place for lunch in town! The place is beautifully designed and dish was so delicious! I chose the Toss It option with mushrooms, lentil and thyme, it was fresh, filling, and delicious! Don't miss the AMAZING pita bread !!! Bought some to take home and the kids loved it! Must go back again for more

I've tried the mushrooms & lentil plate and the black bean patty fill and both were delicious! It's a great way to consume guilt-free fast food. I love love love falafels but try to stay away because they are deep fried. Thanks to Bon A. Pita, I am still able to experience the taste and flavor of a falafel minus the deep fry with the black bean patty. Their pita bread is also freshly baked in house and possibly the best I've ever tried. They're light and fluffy and go great with the protein options. Very convenient spot!

My second visit to Bonapita. Great, simple menu. I had the chicken a la plancha in a pita and the chickpeas soup. It was outstanding. The service was great. They really seem to care about their customers. I highly recommend trying this place for lunch. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Catering order for 30 people and every order was perfect, labeled correctly and delivery was on time. Every person was happy and their hot sauce is flavorful and spicy, not some watered down nonsense. We ordered the Chicken A La Plancha and Bonapita Meatballs. Fantastic.

I have been there twice so far. Really liked the chicken the first time, and looved the meatballs the second time. Both over salad. The pita bread is probably the best aroudn the chain places in the area. Highly recommended.

Delicious pita and great fillings. I got the meatballs which were really good, and it comes with chopped veggies, spicy tomatoes, and tahini. Highly recommend!

Stumbled upon this place the other day and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were extremely friendly and explained how the options worked. The pita's they serve are homeade and like no other pita I have tasted. Very fresh and delicious, tasting more like Naan bread. There were two vegetarian options out of the 4-5 filling choices which was nice. I went with the mushroom and lentil filled pita with all of the default garnishes (forget what they were). It was really good. I had to deduct one star for the portion, I was still a little hungry afterward and could have eaten two.

Freshly baked homemade pita bread, hot out of the oven!!! Great little lunch spot that is easy to miss because they don't have a window onto the street, but the food is really good and fresh with unique and interesting flavors. And did I mention fresh hot homemade pita bread? Really good! Check it out.

The pita at Bonapita is reason enough to show up. Seriously I dream about it. I also particularly love the hummus and soups. I haven't tried the meatballs yet but they're next on my list. I'll definitely be returning.

Tried this place for the first time after reading the article in the Globe. I ordered the black bean and beet patties in a sandwich. Not only was everything super fresh and flavorful, but the interior of the restaurant is beautiful, also a nice place to cool down on a hot summer day. Definitely try some of their homemade hot sauce!

The best chicken schwarma I have had in a LONG time. Fresh, soft, warm, thick slightly chewy pitas. A salad that I could SEE was handcrafted with care including the delicate placing of parsley on the top. Friendly service that offered to explain the menu and include extra sauce. LOVED my experience here and will be back. Possibly tomorrow.

Saw the review in the Globe today, and thought I'd give it a try. I had the black bean and beet patties in a pita - VERY tasty stuff. Everything's very fresh and hopefully the limited menu will allow them to focus on quality. Service was warm and friendly, although a bit slow (I knew I was taking a chance that the Globe article would bump up business and overwhelm them) - faster than say, Clover food truck, my other go-to for uber-fresh lunches, but I think they probably have a few kinks to work out in terms of logistics. I'll definitely be back.

Poor value for price. When I drop $10 on lunch, I want to feel satiated, but unfortunately this new restaurant left me hungry. I ordered the rice plate with chicken. The rice was very good, but there was hardly any chicken, and the stewed veggies that came with the dish were uninspired and mushy. For a new restaurant, I'd think that they would like to establish a customer base, so I am surprised by the extremely chintzy portions of the main event, the meat. There are too many other options nearby for rice and chicken that are less expensive and more hearty. Sorry guys, you lost me after the first time.

Hands down the best Mediterranean lunch option in Boston I've had. The food is super-fresh, the hearth-baked pitas to die for. Also a beautiful, comfortable space and an owner whose passion for pleasing his customers shows with every interaction. I highly recommend Bonapita.

I love this restaurant. I love this food. Can i please live here? I stay 95% paleo and this restaurant can happily cater to my needs, however, their pita bread is without doubt the only bread that can derail me on my best day. I'm never usually tempted by bread but OMG this pita bread must be made from fairy dust because you have never tasted anything so soft, fluffy, warm and tasty. If they can duplicate this using coconut flour and make paleo pitas I will buy the company! Now, I have been there 4 times and 3 times I had to get the meatballs because they were phenomenal over salad. Then i had the mushrooms, lentils and thyme over salad. It's all melt in your mouth amazing. Please never leave Bonapita! Actually, please open a shop in my building so i can go more often. Thank you!

I've eaten here several times since it opened and keep returning. The menu offerings are limited but it delivers exceptionally well on the promise of fresh well-balanced meals. The chicken plate-it is a good example. Perfect fluffy rice, hearty veggies and an inspired chicken and onion melange. But I tend to favor veggie dishes and this is where they really excel. The lentil and mushrooms are deeply flavored and never over cooked, retaining their integrity. But my favorite is the beet patties. Innovative, tasty and yet still comfort food. Excellent food. Pita heaven.

Great new place. 4 stars for food and another star for how nice and clean it was. Spotless inside, plenty of tables to eat in, TVs on walls and great decor (formerly an old church?). Open kitchen also looked very clean. I had the lentil and mushroom plate, which comes with pita, basmati rice, and sauteed veggies. Very good and a little different from most other places in the area. As others have said, the pita is fresh and wonderful and probably the best I've had. Take some of the homemade green sauce if you like spice - very spicy, fresh, and delicious. I'll try a salad next time - the pita, rice, and veggies (heavy on potatoes) was a little too much carbs for me, especially for lunch. Overall, nice place that I would like to see succeed!

A man stood outside of the eatery with freshly baked pita. I tasted the yummy pita, and after my workout I went for a Mushroom, Lentil, and Thyme pita sandwich. It is one of the yummiest pita sandwich! I went after lunch rush so there was no queue. The staff were courteous. I saw the chef cooked and put the sandwich together. He was engaged in running the place, too. The interior of this place is beautiful. it's a sanctuary of sorts. I loved everything about the place.

Just hit Bonapita for the first time and it was fantastic. Everything was very fresh and you could see the quality of the vegetables. Pita was delicious. Truly hit the spot for something filing and not greasy. Highly recommend.

I was walking past Bonapita today *after* lunch and decided to stop in to check it out. My friends and I were very warmly welcomed and treated to probably the best pita I have ever had. We will definitely be going back to try the sandwiches/plates/salads. Menu looked straightforward and delish. Very happy to support a tasty, fresh and healthy alternative in downtown Boston!

Four of us had lunch at this new spot on Franklin Street. There was a choice of protein, then a choice of style- in a pita, on a salad, on rice. My friend was excited to see they had Mexican Coke with real sugar. I chose the chicken in a pita. It was delicious. The pita was freshly made, the chicken flavorful. We will definitely go back. Prices very reasonable.

I want to love this place, because the menu is appealing, the staff is so super friendly, and the pita is amazing. But, I just tried lunch there for the first time, and my salad was somewhat disappointing. I got the salad option with mushroom, lentils, and thyme, and it was heavy on the mushrooms and lettuce, and not so much on anything else. I think the plated option might be the way to go, because I saw people getting those and they looked delicious with lots of veggies...my salad was supposed to have chopped veggies in it, but it was more of a salsa at the bottom of the bowl, almost as if they forgot the chopped veggies? Anyways, it was tasty, but I wouldn't rush back for my lettuce and mushrooms.

After trying their black bean and beets patties today I can say this place is great! They give you more than your money's worth. The pita bread is the best I have ever had. It gets crowded at lunch.

I ate here yesterday with my colleagues. The restaurant is in an old chapel fully renovated to a new cool atmosphere. The location is phenomenal - right next to the new Millennium Tower under construction and seconds from PO Square. The menu is limited but everything is good. It is Mediterranean so pretty healthy. I had the black bean and beet plate which is vegan ( I'm not) and loved it. They are cooked like and have the texture of falafel. They also offer chicken ,meatball and mushroom/veg options. Best of all is the warm fresh home made pita that is served with every meal. Each menu choice is offered stuffed in a pita, on a plate with rice and butternut squash, potatoes and cabbage stewed in tomatoes (better than it sounds) or on a salad. It hasn't been open very long so give it a try and tell your friends. It is not expensive. Lunch and a drink for 8-10 bucks.

This place is a gem. Walking by, I noticed their sign and curiosity struck as I wanted to get a better look. The inside is beautiful and kept very clean. They even have TVs on the walls. I was only looking and the menu, when I met a man who greeted me and explained how it worked. He was very pleasant and informative. Unfortunately, only had my phone and not my wallet at the time, so I couldn't purchase anything. The man told me that this one was on him! I was super impressed - I got the FILL IT option with meatballs - they were awesome. I added some extra spice from the hot sauce tray and it was a really great lunch. The pita so so fresh and warm. I mentioned to the gentleman that I would have been able to pay with Level Up, he said that they will have that soon, so keep an eye out for it soon! It was $7 for a pita sandwich and the wait was 2 minutes. I will be checking this place out again and the office will hear about it for sure!

I've eaten at Bonapita quite a few times since it opened. Unfortunately the wait time for food is a bit long, but the quality of food is worth the wait. If I would have written this review a couple weeks ago, it would have been 4 stars, but they have already changed their chicken - before it was a shredded chicken with onions in a sauce that was delicious and today it's chunks of chicken that are fatty and taste kind of old. So disappointed since this has become one of my go to lunches.

Love at first bite. This place has somewhat copied the Chipotle concept and added some zings of sophistication and healthy options. Agree with Kate M. about size of portions (at least for the mushroom/lentil salad, which I got - when go meatless you need bigger portions because it is less dense). But I will definitely be a regular. Food is good and fresh and staff is friendly. The location is a little hidden, but once people discover it, I see multiple locations in their future. Pitas are great.

I have eaten here twice and both times were excellent. The pita with lentils and mushrooms is a tasty option for even non vegetarians but my favorite was a salad with la plancha chicken. It was beautiful and delish. Eat here and take the time too look around, it's a stunning renovation of a former church.

I randomly stumbled upon this place out taking a midday stroll and was excited to see a new mediterranean option. I loved the concept of the three options of in a pita, on a plate, or on a salad. There are four different options, two of which are vegetarian which I appreciated. In the mood for chicken though, I got the chicken on a plate with basmati rice and vegetables. On first glance, it looked delicious, but upon closer inspection, I saw that I had very little actual chicken, and the vegetables consisted of mostly onions with a few red peppers and zucchinis thrown in with one lonely chunk of eggplant. The spice mix on the chicken did it no favors, as it had a saffron/curry taste to it which I did not enjoy in the least bit. I gave this place three stars because I love the concept, and the rice and pita were amazing. I will be back, but next time will choose the meatballs in the pita. The restaurant itself was clean and spacious and the staff was very courteous in explaining to me how it all worked and I got my food in just a minute or two.
