This review is long overdue, but when I went to college in Boston this was my favorite restaurant in the city. Me and my friends would come for the lunch specials on weekends which were $10 and absolute feasts. I think Indian food can be weak in the US but this place absolutely kills it and at a great price All the dishes are incredibly flavorful. I love the sauces they bring out at the beginning with the thin crunchy bread. The red sauce with onions we devour every time. The naan comes fresh piping hot out of the oven. For main dishes I love the Madras (great citrus, spicy flavor), Tikka Masala (yes this is kind of the go-to Americanized Indian dish, but they make is so damn well here), I could name more but everything is fantastic The service here is impeccable. The servers are all great guys, extremely attentive and our water glasses are always filled This place is a Boston establishment and puts to shame other Indian food in the US

Nan - $2.95 Paneer nan - $3.95 Bhindi masala - $12.95 Goat coconut with bone - $14.95 Punjab Palace has a substantial goat menu. Everything we ordered was super flavorful, and the nan was fluffy and fresh. They also give you pappadam.

I had a very large order (6 dishes plus naan) for a work luncheon at noon. I expected the food to be delivered at 12:15pm (since they open at 11:30am and it typically takes 45-60 minutes), but the food arrived shortly after 11:30am! The food itself was hot and delicious. We order two hot dishes (chicken curry and lamb vindaloo) which had some heat, but not as much as we expected. All in all, a lot of happy coworkers!

The best delivery Indian you can get. I often order-in for Indian and had been searching for a decent place that was inexpensive, so I was overwhelmed to find such a tasty place available from my online app ordering services. The bases/sauces are always rich and savory. The proteins and bread are skillfully cooked, neither over nor under done. You can tell they take pride in their work with plenty of time and attention. For delivery, this is amazing. Their long selection of dishes is also unmatched in neighboring restaurants. They have been running specials for months and keep remaining less expensive than their more generic-tasting peers, on top of it all. While I cannot speak to their restaurant's appearance and I have certainly had better Indian food near India, this is as good as it gets for the Boston area since Tamarind Bay has gone out of business. Highlights: Garlic Naan, Chicken Madras, Fish Coconut, Anything Korma, Lamb Vindaloo, Goat Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, and Samosas of any sort.

We ordered delivery from here and I have to say, it did not disappoint! Much better than the other Indian restaurant we tried earlier in the week. We ordered chicken tikka masala, sheekh kabob, naan and garlic naan. If this review was just for the chicken tikka masala, I would give it 5 stars because it was just that good! Portion is a bit small though but it is so worth it because it is absolutely delicious! The sheekh kabob was ok, I didn't like it that much because it had a very strong meat taste and was red in color instead of brown lol. My husband really liked it though and that thought it was delicious. Excellent food! Cannot wait to try other things on their menu

Was feeling something other than seafood today so I decided to check out the Indian Food in Boston. Ordered a Mango Lassi that was delicious and hit the spot on a warm summer day. My naan, rice, and chicken saag came out to around $12 and could have fed two people instead of one with leftovers for the next day. Not quite as sweet saag as I expected or have had in the past, but the service was good and so was the food. Only suggestion to any manager reading this would be for more communication on the floor, I was asked for my order, told the waiter I needed more time, and not 30 seconds later a different waiter asking me the same thing. Also I used the restroom before I left and when I came back to get my to go bag and glasses my place was being cleared. Not terrible, but also not very professional. Talking is key in the front of house, my only reason for 4 stars.

This is probably my favorite Indian place to eat at or to get takeout from. They give you these chips and 3 different types of chutney and they all have distinct yummy tastes! (They include this in takeout, which is awesome) Chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and naan are my go-to's. If you like cilantro and loads of garlic, go for the garlic naan (I can't do cilantro, so this was a no-go for me). The chicken tikka masala is so creamy and when you ask for spicy, they really know how to turn up the heat!! So GOOD! The place is adorable and comfortable. The waiters are friendly and bring your food fast! Always a good place to meet up with friends.

A++ service. On a Thursday night, we were the only patrons of Punjab Palace and the level of service was phenomenal. Case in point: my man only took a sip of water and I didn't even touch my glass. After we ordered, both our glasses had water refilled nearly to the brim. My man and I looked at each other funny. Throughout dinner, we had at least 3 different waiters ask how we were finding the food. The experience here is 150% different than our time at Brookline's Shan-A-Punjab restaurant. Appetizer Rec: ++Garlic naan- homemade bread stuffed with fresh garlic and spices. Ohhh you will definitely taste the garlic my friends. Great for dipping with curry. It comes out piping hot! Entree Recs: ++Chicken tikka masala-white tandoori boneless chicken cooked in tomatoes and creamy sauce. If you're a spice fan, don't go for medium. Medium won't be hot enough for you :) ++Lamb curry-cubes of lamb cooked with onions, tomatoes, fresh ginger, garlic and spices. Lamb was fantastic, liked it better than the chicken since it was less dry. Atmosphere is on the fancier side with a bar, flowers on the table, and the place dimly lit. Great for date night and catching up in a classier place. Entrees average ~$13-15.

I've been craving Indian food for weeks so when we didn't have concrete dinner plans, I gave in, yelped the best/closest place and ordered takeout. THIS FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. I only got chicken tikka masala, vegetable Samosas, basmati rice and naan, but everything was great. Granted, chicken tikka masala is the most basic white girl Indian food and it's hard to mess up, but this was great. Not oily, not dry chicken, just cooked perfectly and tasted great. Parking on the street was tricky, but I ran in and was greeted by like 6 waitors who were all dressed up and checked me out super fast. Next time - and there will be a next time- I'll be going in because it looked like a classy place and the downtown begs a post-dinner stroll.

Chicken tikka masala is always on point. I've had pretty much all of their naans and my favorite is the PASHWARI HONEY ONE SOOO JUICY AND DELICIOUS! The cherry one is good too, but I barely tasted the honey so I asked for some on the side which they generously gave me :) love all of their vegetarian dishes and the lamb ones as well and they are always kind, respectful and attentive :)

Absolutely awesome! I got take out and just ordered some Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala. Man I had a hard time even putting down my fork! Absolutely delicious and the delivery guy was very nice. Would absolutely order from here again.

The lamb taste like beef and all sauces like ketchup I love Indian food but these was runny...tasteless as lack of ingredients and flavour. Naam bread was good but curry was not good

This review is solely for delivery. I'm fairly picky about my Indian food, but this exceeded my expectations! I had the malai kofta and tadka dal lunch specials. It came with a papad and onion pickle, and both were good!! The papad was even still warm somehow. For the actual food, the malai kofta was perfect - sweet but a little spicy, the koftas were soft and were a mix of different vegetables. The tadka dal was also very good! The delivery was pretty prompt, as well. Will have to check out the location one day!

I'm a fan of Punjab Palace for both dine-in and delivery meals. Overall the food is good, prices are reasonable and service is friendly. Naan: soft and fluffy. I'm a big fan of naan bread and even though their curries come with rice if I'm feeling hungry I'll order some. Garlic naan: This naan has a very different texture from their regular naan. It's a little more dense. Although the flavor is nice I prefer the plain naan. Vegetable Samosa: I'm a fan of samosas in general. The ones here are medium sized and the filling isn't dry and has plenty of flavor. I love it with their onion Chutney. I wish it came with mint chutney too! Tikka Masala: This is one of my "go to" Indian dishes and I almost always order it with chicken. It's pretty good here and the chicken isn't dry. The flavor is difficult to describe but if you're new to Indian food, this one is a safe bet. I have recently tried this one with shrimp and really enjoyed it. Chicken vindaloo: I have ordered this "hot" a few times and really like it. It's VERY spicy, but that's what appeals to me. Sometimes the heat takes away from subtle flavors but you can't have it all I suppose. Channa masala: I got turned onto Chana masala (chickpea curry) from Trader Joes. They have an awesome one in their frozen food section. It's made creamier here but the flavors are great. It's a heavier dish but I recommend trying it. Palak Paneer/ Saag: I can't remember how this one is listed here but it's a spinach curry with cheese cubes. I ordered this "hot" a few times but I think I prefer it medium. I'm a fan. I ordered a lentil dish once and only once since I wasn't impressed. It was a little bland for my taste but I can't remember what it was called. Note: you can order the curries mild, medium or hot. Be warned that when they say "hot," they mean it! Overall, I'd recommend Punjab Palace for dinner or delivery. I once ordered about 10 curries for a large group too and everything went smoothly. And they're on Foodler!

Best indian food i have ever had. The saag paneer & chana masala were so flavorful and spiced perfectly (I got medium). The vegetable samosa are fresh. Naan was the only thing that wasn't phenomenal, but I didn't care at that point. I cannot recommend Punjab enough!

Coming from Australia, I've had a really hard time finding good Indian food which matches up to the quality back home. But I think I have. We got delivery last night, and ordered the dinner for 2. The coconut soup wasn't to my taste, but I wanted to try something new. I'm sure it was a good one, I just didn't like it. The samosas were great - the filling was the perfect consistency. The naan had a beautiful smoky flavor to it. Amazing. But the tandoori. Incredible. I nearly choked when I breathed in some of the oil, but that's only because I wasn't expecting an actual spice. But it was perfect. I can't fault them on it at all. We'll definitely be making this one our new regular!

  • Anarie S.

I love that this place has their lunch specials everyday of the week. For around $10, you can get the full meal that includes curry, rice and tea. Plus, they are really fast. We had our food come out less that 10 minutes. The garlic naan is amazing. It's cooked and cut in half. Most of the spices and the garlic pieces are inside. I would highly recommend this place for anyone.

I have visited this place five times now. I was waiting for a few visits before writing a review, in order to be balance and fair. Unfortunately, I can't be balanced because this place is great! How many restaurants have a lunch menu on a Mother's Day Sunday? No one! Just this place. The food is so cheap that I'm ashamed of paying so little for such a great food. As far as my humble opinion (I only had been in a dozen of Indian restaurant or so). This food is incredibly tasty and delicious. I ordered the goat curry, with was tasty and soft, even with the bones. The rice was so aromatic and grainy that I could eat it by itself. This is a must stop in Boston, if you can be unpretentious and be patient with the service, which is attentive in their own particular way. Highly recommend this place.

First, let me say that the restaurant, Punjab Palace is fabulous. They catered our daughter's first birthday party last month. We couldn't have asked for a more professional, nicer, or more helpful team to cater our party. Their menu options are astounding and they modified according to our special requests. We wanted authentic Indian flavors in our buffet menu and we got just that with dishes like chicken kadhai and navratan korma. They also had fantastic vegetarian options--everybody absolutely loved their paneer entrée. Their saag paneer made me nostalgic of the dhabas of Punjab (genuine Indian taste). Many a restaurants in Boston try to sell their illegitimate versions of Indian food under their fancy names....But, Punjab Palace has reminded us of the beauty of authentic Indian cuisine. And there are no words to describe how perfectly cooked and seasoned was their chicken tikka masala and their flakiest warm tandoori naan bread would melt the moment they drop in your mouth. Mr. Pammi, the owner of Punjab Palace incorporated our requests and helped us create a delicious menu that fit within our budget and we earned many compliments from our guests for the wonderful food experience. Planning an outdoor party can be a pretty daunting task on its own and Punjab Palace made sure that our plans were executed perfectly. The food arrived on time, and we ended up having a beautiful weather for our daughter's party and had an even fabulous dining experience in the outdoors. We highly recommend Punjab Palace Caterers, not just for value, but for the quality of service that they deliver. Don't pass this one over!! Thank you, Mr. Pammi --- Punjab Palace was a big part in our party success! -GeetVicks

I have been here quite a few times. The taste is really good, I wouldn't say "out of the world". The waiters served on time even when the restaurant was full(given they've less than 10 tables, I guess) and some were waiting for a seat. This is one of the tasteful indian placed priced just right. I have never felt anything bad about this place. I'll change my verdict if I ever come across one.

One of the gems in Boston for authentic North Indian food . I am not sure if they have a buffet.May be on the expensive side. But the food was fresh and really delicious. Nice people too.

I'm not an Indian food expert and I don't eat it very often but Punjab Palace was phenomenal. I loved every second of my chicken tikka masala and had enough for two meals. Definitely well worth it.

Ive only been to Punjab Palace once and to be honest...I wasn't that impressed. The restaurant itself is pretty small giving off a cozy, intimate feel. The menu is filled with traditional Indian dishes like tandoori chicken, Tikka masala, and different types of naan. Ill admit, the food is good. I went with a friend and we ordered the dinner platter for two. It came with soup, some appetizers and a mix grill. I had the lentil soup which wasn't anything special, while my friend ordered the coconut soup. After trying his I immediately regretted my decision. The appetizers and the mixed grill were very tasty. There was a lamb dish and tandoori chicken. The portions were huge, which is sometimes rare for indian food. We both both left dinner completely stuffed AND took leftovers home. But here is my issue with Punjab Palace. For a small indian restaurant in Allston, its pretty expensive. Our meal was almost $30 each (including drinks) which isn't bad for Indian food but given the amount of cheap restaurants in the vicinity, I expected the menu to be a little cheaper. Also, Super 88 is right down the street with insanely cheap (and better tasting) Indian food... which is the reason I've only been to Punjab Palace once. So here is my advice. If you are looking for a fancy, sit down restaurant, Punjab Palace is a great option. However, if you're really just looking for good Indian food and don't mind getting it to go or sitting in a cafeteria like setting, walk 3 blocks towards packards corner to Super 88. You won't regret it.

Best Indian food I've had in my 7 years as a Bostonian. I ordered the Vegetable Pakoras appetizer which was absolutely delicious and for my entree I had the Malai Kofta, my go-to Indian dish, and it was as good as any I've ever had. I can't speak to the atmosphere or service because I ordered from GrubHub but as far as the food goes, it was top-notch.

Best Chicken Tikka Masala I have ever had in Boston! Their nan is amazing too! Food size is good too!

Consistently well-prepared dishes with excellent service. You will always get the fresh and perfectly spicy chutney to place generously on papadum (thin cracker). Punjab Palace displays a wide variety of flavorful sauces, including the traditional masala, korma, and curry. Recommend trying a few dishes medium and at least one dish hot. Usually this reviewer prefers a protein other than chicken, but Punjab Palace cooks it very tender, including of course, in the tandoori style without drying out. The chicken curry (with onions and tomatoes in a thinner sauce) and the chicken kadhai (with onions, peppers, and mushrooms in a creamier sauce) are stand-outs. The saag is heavier on the spinach and less creamy than elsewhere, while the dal (lentil) provides an even blend of vegetable and sauce. The chicken channa masala, although on the less adventurous side, is delicious in a creamy tomato sauce with tandoori chicken and chickpeas. Prefer this dish hot. The lamb bhuna, a similar style to the curry, provides generous hearty chunks of lamb. Tried many dishes at Punjab Palace, you can't go wrong with any of them. Recommend trying dishes with contrasting sauces. And you always get a cold Andes mint when you are done!

I've never had a dine-in experience here since I have no friends which mean I have to just grubhub my food; I'm not complaining though, since their service is insanely efficient My food was ready within 15 minutes of ordering online! I'm always very satisfy and full after my orders, good for at least 2 meals. Chicken Tikka Masala: had been consistently good, a really nice spice that surpass the rest of places in boston Chicken Paneer Masala: O_O MY FAVORITE THING EVER. So glad I tried this, for some reason it's more flavorful and spicier than the regular chix tik. The perfect marriage for my nan What's interesting is their rice, other places in Boston I've been to had plain white basmati rice. So to my surprise when the rice that I got from here that came with the previously mention dishes, was beautiful with some orange and yellow thing... eh I'm pretty ignorant for not knowing what it was but I can guess that there was cumin seed and the yellow was saffron rice... whatever it was the rice was so pretty, it actually have a flavor to it too, as other places had rice that was just rice their lassi is okay, the mango is better than the plain one love love their nan also

This THE BEST Indian restaurant that I've ever tried. I am a total foodie and have been a food critic for some years already, and from all the indian I've tried this is by far the best place I've been to. Now every time we come to boston we have to have it. We had a mild chicken Korma and it was creamy and delicious, the meat was tender and falling apart just perfect. The Pashwari naan was sweet and moist just how it should be. The Papadums were crispy and had different spices in them that perfectly complimented the sauces. We ordered a Raita sauce on the side because it went perfectly with our Chicken Pakora appetizer. Everything was just so amazing, I highly recommend this place!

Chicken saag, lamb vindaloo, chicken tika masala. The garlic naan was definitely flavorful and had a good amount of garlic in it, didnt feel too much or too kittle. The regular naan was just a bit bland so i recommend getting one of the types of naans like garlic or onion or there are more exotic naans too. I am not a huge fan of indian rice, but it wasnt bad, i enjoyed it. The lamb vindaloo was extremely spicy. Finished maybe1/3 of it with three people. I dont recommend getting vindaloos in the spicy level (out of mild, medium, and spicy). The waiter will tell you the vindaloos taste better in the spicy taste but the vindaloos are already spicy so dont fall for it. Tika masala was creamy and awesome. Yes go for it. And i always love chicken saag The waiters are friendly and nice although it will feel rushed and they won't leave you alone until you are done with your food and have paid the check even when the restaurant isnt full and there is no waiting list. So thats a bit annoying but oh well. Havent tried any of the desserts or the lassi drinks but would definitely go back and am very interested in trying out the tiramisu that some people really strongly suggest

The best Indian food I've ever had. Period. Going here was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. I've never written a review but this was so good it deserved the good publicity. Dinner for two was a ton of food, be prepared.

  • Brad M.

Chicken Tikka Masala is excellent whether you eat there or get delivery--it's right up there with the best I have had! The vegetable samosa is delicious, as is the onion naan. I did not like the onion bhaji, but I don't think it has to do with the way they cook, just my own, personal taste. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody especially for delivery.

  • Graceypoo M.

The Malai Kofta is delicious! It is these mini 3-inch football dumplings made of cheese and bread with spices (like dense matzah balls in texture), immersed in a creamy masala-like sauce. This may be my new favorite dish at this place. I also think I'm addicted to their onion chutney--great with rice!

Literally just came home from this place and I'm writing a review it was that amazing. Me and my friend ordered two appetizers and the chicken manchurian to share and it was more than enough! They have an extensive list of international beers which I thought was nice. The atmosphere itself is nice too. The lights are perfect and the standard Indian music videos are playing. All the staff was extremely friendly as well and very attentive. I will be going back to try more dishes!

Another gem in the heart of Allston! Ordered the Mixed Platter appetizer to start, which was the perfect assortment of food for two people to share. For our main we ordered the Chicken Manchurian, the Keema Saag and Garlic Naan as a side. The entrees also came with a heaping plate of rice. I was not disappointed with any of it, but WOW was the Keema Saag ever good!! And for an average of $12-$14 per entree, the portion sizes are quite generous! Although the restaurant was fairly busy, our server was quite attentive and the food came quickly. I also noticed that they deliver, which I'll definitely have to take advantage of next time!

I think this Indian restaurant is the best one around Boston area! I often visited other Indian restaurant, such as in Arlington, Brookline, Cambridge, Burlington and I conclude this restaurant is the best one!! The atmosphere and cleanness of the restaurant is really good and also staffs are very polite and gentle. I ate Vegetable Samosa, Vegetable Jalfrezi, Chicken Tikka Masala, Bhindi Masala, Paneer KadhaiGoat Shahi Korma (with Bone), Onion Nan, Garlic Nan, Pashwari Nan. All dishes are very tasty and fresh!! Strongly recommend!

I frequently get Indian food here and never have I had a bad meal. Mostly I get the vegetarian entrees so I can't say much about anything else. Anyways, everything there is flavorful (however I heard some of the curries can be ketchupy). They have a great veggie selection. I like to get mild which sometimes is hot and sometimes isn't. The hot though whoa! I love it. They offer delivery which is usually around 45-1hr. It however never arrives cold. The environment in the restaurant is very relaxing and never gets too loud. Full wine and beer menu. If your looking for Indian food this is definitely a place to try. It's one of the better in the Boston area.

Good food & great service. We were visiting Boston and decided to try this place because of the good reviews. We ordered the Malai Kofta, Navratan Korma and Paneer Chili along with assortment of naan and rice. All the food was excellent (esp malai kofta and paneer chili). Our toddler was throwing a fit, so we asked them to pack the food instead of serving it, which they graciously did. They even offered to put in some ice cream for our screaming toddler and some salad (without asking for it) along with some plastic dinnerware. We were very grateful for their service. Thank you. I highly recommend this place.

Great delivery! They come so quickly! Their food is amazing, and if you want to try it without spending too much money, they have really reasonable lunch prices. I am in love with this place.

I ordered chicken tikka masala with garlic naan (as usual). The naan was super soggy, but I think that's because it was in the tin foil for too long. I got a delivery order from Allston to Mission Hill. That probably explains why. Otherwise, their chicken tikka masala was on point and wasn't too spicy. Like Kelsey said, I would not recommend delivery. It took too long. (To the point where I thought my food wasn't going to come.) Luckily the food was good, so it made up for it.

Our experience here was fantastic--extremely attentive waitstaff, awesome bollywood entertainment, and superb food! I'm a nitpick when it comes to southeast and south asian cuisine and this was delicious even to my standards. I ordered the lamb saag lunch special, which came with papadam, cucumber salad, basmati rice, and cabbage as sides. The lamb was extremely tender and not gamey at all. The saag was nicely seasoned with a delicate balance of flavors. Overall, great food, experience, and reasonable prices. This place just might be one of my new staples!

Chicken korma and tikka masala were incredible and the naan is super good. The delivery was fast ONCE, but ever since then the delivery drivers call to say he can't find a place to park. WE LIVE IN BACK BAY, parking is not easy here. You are a DELIVERY DRIVER- this is your job! If you can't figure out how to park do not call me and ask me what to do!! So it went from ONE super fast awesome experience to several experiences that were pretty awful, 20+minutes longer than they originally cited (once almost 2 hours when the original estimate was 50-60 minutes), in which our food is always cold. Unfortunately the food is incredible so I can't give them no stars, but I am disappointed.

  • Ariel Z.

Ordered the Chicken Coconut Korma, which was a decent curry dish, though I didn't taste much of the coconut flavor. We also ordered the Shrimp Tikka, which was quite strange and not as good as I thought it would be. I think it is safer to stick to chicken for any tikka dish. I really enjoyed their mango lassi, more milky than yogurty, which I prefer since many of the dishes typically eaten at Indian restaurants are heavy enough! I would definitely come back and try more options, such as the vegetarian thali and more of the seafood dishes.

GREAT TIKKA MASALA! I go almost monthly to eat tikka masala here since it's so close - the waiters are so nice and they refill the water every time its more than half full. However, I ordered delivery once and ordered saag and tandoori chicken with plain naan. The saag paneer was really good: I love the bits cheese in your mouth buried into the spinach curry. Its my second-favorite to tikka masala. The tandoori chicken was REALLY dry to the point where the chicken had no taste. The delivery came really fast, but I would suggest against the tandoori chicken. India Quality would be a better option if you like more authentic Indian food.

Went to dinner here for my birthday with five other people. The food was pretty tasty except for the naan which is a little too burnt. They accommodated our seating pretty nicely seeing as it's a smallish place which I appreciated. Definitely one of the better Indian food places I've tried, I'd say they're worth a go.

  • Ted R.

Really 3.5 stars, overall a pretty decent place. I have had good dishes and not-so-great dishes here. Sometimes their food just lacks seasoning, but I also am forced to order the dishes "very mild" due to my children, so I might not be getting the dishes as intended. We have always been happy with their saag paneer though.

I'm not one for eating Indian food (it's not something I typically crave) but lately, I've been feeling adventurous. I haven't actually had a meal at the restaurant, but take-out has consistently been delicious. I usually order the saag paneer and my boyfriend orders the chicken tikka masala. No complaints here! The nan is also delicious, although VERY garlic-y.

Another 5-star review for a fast delivery of Aloo Chole, Garlic Naan, and vegetable Samosas on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Exceptional!

This is my favorite Indian takeout place for GrubHub delivery... fast and flavorful! I had the chicken tikka Marsala, and paid a little extra for all white meat, Which is totally worth the two bucks. The garlic naan bread arrived soft, warm and mouth watering, full of moist, spicy garlic. My friend had the curry, done mild, which I found almost flavorless. I'll leave that dish for the faint of heart. The deal: leave the curry, take the naan.

OMG. I've been to all the top rated Indian restaurants in Boston, but this place tops them all! Well, it might be too early to judge since I've only ordered once, but it was an impressive meal. I got the lamb vindaloo and asked for very spicy, pashwari nan, and kheer. I was happy with the vindaloo because it was spicy just the way I liked it. I have high tolerance for spice, so it wasn't hell-ish spicy, but spicier than what other places make, which is a good thing. The pashwari nan was yum!! The highlight for me though was the kheer. I grew up with English rice pudding, and this brought back memories of the good old days. I haven't tasted kheer like this in years! The only downside is that the serving was so small, like 1/2 cup that I was left hanging. I really wish they increase the serving size because I literally need 4-5 times the portion they give now. Otherwise, I'll have to learn to make my own kheer to enjoy every single day. I really would've given this place a 5 star, but the teasing portion of their dreamy kheer tells me that I gotta take a star off. I can literally spend the rest of my life eating just their kheer. Sorry if you get disappointed trying the kheer after reading my review, but if you love rice pudding like me, you'd find it just as impressive.

they provide you with 3 dipping sauces & some crackers at the table while you look over the menu - tasty. The garlic naan is slightly thicker than usual because it's stuff with garlic & season- best ever. the paneer naan is stuffed with cheese-kinda bland but good the next day cold & for sopping up the remaining sauces. The shrimp saag is really good- thick mixture of spinach & cream. The goat shahi korma has a really tasty cream sauce but disappointed with the small scraps of goat meat on the bones. Will come back to try other dishes.

Punjab Palace was very good - reasonably priced, attentive service (water was always refilled). We had a party for 8 on a Friday nite. We all ordered different dishes so we could share. We started off w/ sampler appetizer plate and somosas. For the entrees you can choose "mild, medium, hot". I enjoyed the various dishes w/ lamb, chicken and spinach dish too. The Bollywood videos on the big screen were entertaining also. Very laid back, would come back and easy on the wallet. Most entrees were around $8 - 12. The Nan was a little bit on the thick side but good for sopping up the sauces with.

Solid Food. Tasty sauces. Andes mints with your check. I too have to give it up to the Music Videos. You can't help but watch the TV. For that same reason, it's not a great place to try to carry on a quiet conversation.

I'm pretty sure I found a bug leg in my aloo gobi the last time I orderd takeout from Punjab. Not only that, but the naan was doughy and my husband and I ended up with mild digestive issues after eating. Regardless, I am giving Punjab two stars because all my prior experiences were good ones. The last time may have been an off night, but I would advise ordering with caution.

Hi, I just came back from Punjab Palace for my 4 year anniversary, this was my first time coming to this place, and I have to admit I was impressed. The food and service was very good. There was this Indian chip that they served us and I can't believe it tasted just like KFC batter, it was amazing. The one thing to keep in mind is in an Indian restaurant, when they say that dish is spicy, it literally means it is spicy. My girlfriend who has a very high spice level, actually surrendered to its merciless spice, I made the analogy of her to that dish as zimmerman is to durian...But overall Punjab Palace is a great place and should check out.

What to I do when I am down and want to order three or four times as many calories than I could possibly need for dinner? I call Punjab Palace! I should be more adventurous, but I almost always go for their Chicken Korma and that crazy, sweet, over the top chocolate desert. I order that so my endorphins go up as well as my weight! Foodler now has a 6.99 delivery fee for this restaurant-which is nuts if you are in the area. Call the restaurant directly. Delivery is usually 30-45 mintues. I love Punjab Palace and wish I didn't.

They get major points for naming their restaurant "Punjab Palace." How awesome is that?! The food is amazing. Very nice staff. When I go places for the first time, I like to ask the waiter what their favorite thing is and give that a try. When I asked our waiter, he proceeded to tell me the things that were popular. I said, oh, great, ok, but what's your favorite? Something that you eat a lot? He responded, Well, xyz is very popular. Hm. We liked the Indian music videos. V. cool. The bf and I enjoyed: vegetable samosas (lots of cinnamon, yum) mango lassi lamb vindaloo (which bf ordered spicy but wasn't as spicy as he/we hoped) saag paneer (my favorite in Boston!) I will absolutely be back!

I am so excited that I get to eat at this place ALL THE TIME. I'm going to do this review in the form of a list. Excellent things about Punjab Palace: 1. Food - awesome. Fresh, spicy, delicious. Good sized menu; not too big, not too small. 2. Vegan friendly - Allix T and I had plenty of options 3. Customer service - I can't say enough about the staff. They are dressed impeccably, they are courteous and respectful, they refill your water constantly, they bag up your leftovers for you, and they know exactly what is vegan and not vegan. 4. Appearance - The restaurant is clean, spacious, and has a great big screen TV with hilarious Indian movies that is not too distracting, but can be enjoyed anywhere in the restaurant 5. Price - The lunch specials were really well priced. In fact, everything seemed to be well priced. No complaints from this cheap bastard. My experience was simply blissful. Expect me back, Punjab Palace....

I LOVE this place! The service is excellent, and the food is outstanding. Punjab definitely beats any other Indian restaurant in the area by a long shot. For menu items, I recommend: -Baingan Bharta, a mashed eggplant dish with a deliciously spicy flavor. -Vegetable Samosas -ANY of the Naan breads -Tiramisu (believe me, it's phenomenal.) They also have the best chutneys out of any Indian restaurant I've ever been to. Bravo!

I learned a lot about Indian movies and how they don't really make sense here. I kind of pushed my limits, because I ordered everything I had spicy. I wanted to feel the BURN. And feel it I did. I must have downed 8 glasses of water. And it didn't help, however, looking positively I did get my daily 8 glasses of water a day in. They had Naan. Dear sweet Naan. I got the Paneer Naan because it had cheese in it, and really, who can say no to cheese? I didn't think so. For my meal I got this coconut curry chicken with a white cream sauce and it went perfectly with my Naan. Oh man was it HOT though. I liked it. I liked it a lot. The rice was equally delicious and quite colorful. And CHEAP. I think it was $38.00 for an app, Roti, Naan, and our two meals (I think that was including tip). AND they deliver. Shame on me for not grabbing a menu on my way out. I was so full and content once I left, I just wanted to go home and collapse on my couch. But no, karate was calling my name, and the only reason my tummy was mad at me was because I was moving. I am now in love with Indian food (just not the hairy men =) We'll leave that as Lys' job)

I'd had a tough day at work and was in the mood for some take-out curry (I still want to say takeaway), so I did my yelp research and landed here. I ordered the chicken tikka masala (cliche, yes; GOOD, hell yes) and onion bhaji, which I'd never had before. The counterperson was very courteous and asked me if I'd like some complimentary tea while I waited. The tea was excellent and I was disappointed that the food was ready so quickly! I went home and ate FAR too much food for my own good, but it was too delicious to stop! The onion bhaji was great, as were the chutneys it came with and the tikka masala was very thick and had more of a tomato flavor than others I've had, but in a good way. In short, Punjab Palace makes me want to live solely off of Indian food.

In all honesty, I'd like to give this place 3.5 stars, but was feeling generous so I rounded up. We came here when it first opened, and then again last night, so I can say that it food and service were consistent. The food is very good, but nothing to write home about. Even though there are 3 decent Indian places within a stones throw of each other on Brighton Ave, they all are different enough to survive, which I guess is saying something. What really makes this place stand out is the service. The overall dining experience is top notch; the staff is worthy of 5 stars alone. Everyone is very friendly, the servers are very attentive and accommodating for various dietary needs. The dining area is very clean and modern (Bollywood music videos play on wall-mounted flat screen TVs) it's almost got an Indian bistro vibe, which sounds confusing until you've dined there. If you're up for a spicy Bollywood-infused evening in Allston, this is a great choice.

very good, would recommend. When I lived in Boston for 2-3 years, this was the best Indian food I could find in the area. and It's rare to find any food this good in the area. Parking's very tight on the street. Best if you can just walk there on foot or take the "T" there. That's obviously not their fault though - it's Boston.

I have eaten here so many times that I can close my eyes and taste the food. I am vegetarian. The beast dishes are: 1) Shahi Paneer (Closest to Bombay Kadhai Paneer with gravy) 2) Matar (peas) Paneer. Fab! 3) Tadka Daal 4) The Bread is fabulous!

Mmmmmm. I love Indian food and Punjab Palace was some of the best Indian I have ever had. I often get the Chicken Tikka Masala as my benchmark and Punjab's Palace version was top-notch. The sauce was perfect and they give pretty generous quantities. We sampled some appetizers and most of those were pretty good too. The naan was fresh and fluffy! The prices are great and much cheaper than some other Indian places that aren't even as yummy. The service was really friendly too even though we were a large party and dawdled. I'll have to come back or do take out again soon . . .

Easily the best Indian food I have eaten in the Boston area. They have a cute but tiny location in Allston. Call ahead if you have a party of four especially on the weekend. But once you get seated the food is delicious from the chaat to the tandoori chicken to all the entrees. They also have a large tv playing Hindi music videos. That might sound like a distraction but it adds to the atmosphere without being overwhelming even though it will draw your attention several times throughout your dinner.

Probably the best Indian in Boston, tied with India Quality (duh, not surprising). Great flavorful food every time. Love the lamb saag and chicken vindaloo (though the spiciness of vindaloo could definitely be kicked up a bit, I think they tone it down for New England standards). No matter what I ordered I always had a good meal. The dining room is often crowded for dinner, but the staff is always polite and speedy. To avoid the crowds on the weekend and get take out if you can.

Yum... I still smell like curry! I ordered take out from here this week. Malai Kofta, Paneer Nan, and a Roti. I also tried a small, sweet lassi. Can I just say, AMAZING! The curry had just enough spice that I was mildly sweating, and the cheese was delicious. I was also blown away by the lassi, which was actually a perfect offset for the curry. My favourite part of the meal though was the Paneer nan, with spinach and cheese. They were piping hot and made to perfection. I love to eat with my hands, which I know is very unladylike. My mother would be horrified, but I don't feel that I have really enjoyed my curry unless my hands are stained. Punjab Palace lived up to this task! The only sad thing was that I didn't like the roti here. It just didn't taste very good and it was kind of rubbery. This looks like it is going to be my local curry house from now on!

I was planning a non-date with the ex to see Slumdog Millionaire (second time for me - highly recommend!) and some good Indian food after. Yelped around, checked out websites, and decided upon on Punjab Palace. I wanted good Indian food and a nice setting. Many of the Indian restaurants in Central Square have good food but are often empty and the decor can be rundown and depressing.... Punjab Palace gets high marks for the setting. Marble tables, clean, the flat screen TV with the entertaining Bollywood videos. It was exactly what I was looking for. The food was okay; some good, nothing spectacular. The onion bhaji was good, the samosas were just okay - not fried to order and therefore a little lukewarm and doughy. The nan got high marks - fresh and tasty. We had chicken korma for one entree - there were too few cashews in it, and those that were had obviously been in the sauce a while - not crunchy at all. The baingan bhartha was good, with the smoky eggplant taste one expects. Can't really comment on the spice level - the ex doesn't like his Indian too spicy so I added some onion chutney to spice mine up, but that's no reflection on the restaurant. The rice was well-made. So will I go back again? Sometime, sure. Will I take my Indian friends when they come visit Boston? Eh - I'd probably ask around hoping to find a better restaurant.

Yes yelp, yes. You have yet again not led me astray. Fellow yelper Steve W. and his beautiful wife Rida picked Punjab for our monthly dining club thanks to the great yelp reviews. And guess what?!?!? It was even better than I could have imagined!! Delicious, spicy, hot, fresh and awesome. Started with some samosas and the combo app platter. Everything was tasty and the right texture. Garlic nan that was perfectly garlicy and had a little parsley flair. The lamb vindaloo was amazing (my first time trying it, but had to get it due to the comments on it and I am thinking that I may have started out with the Cadillac of vindaloos and it is all downhill anywhere else but here). The service was excellent, my water was continuously full, they were extremely polite, answered questions, let us linger and it was only $20 with a more than stuffed stomach and at least another meal leftover. I only wish it were closer to my house!!! Almost forgot! Bollywood was an awesome backdrop for the evening and hard to not captivate you. Check out the commercials, they are as intriguing as the actual show.

Normally I can't stand restaurants that force you to watch large, blaring television sets while you eat--especially when they serve great food so you're forced to do the math: do you want to eat well or eat in peace. But the nonstop South Asian music videos playing at Punjab Palace work in tandem with their excellent food to create a highly pleasurable sensory overload. And now that they serve beer and wine, you can get a little buzz on and take the while experience one step higher. I haven't had a bad lamb, veggie, or chicken dish here yet and I've had several of each. The samosas, nan, and paratha are all great, and so are the onion chutney and mint sauce (I'm sure the tamarind sauce is fine, but I've never been a huge fan). What makes it all so good is that everything is very fresh and is seasoned in a nicely balanced way. Finding this place has been a relief because now, apart from my occasional Indian-Chinese fix from India Dhaba, I know where to go when I get a South Asian hankering.

Well Yelpers you were right again! I just moved to the Allston area and needed a new spot for Indian food and you were right on. The food was great. The vegetable samosas and Aloo Paneer was awesome. I wish I had room left to try dessert. Service was great and the food came out, to the table that is, in a reasonable time. I will definitely be coming back here.

Seriously, talk about the best first experience with Indian food ever! And the bollywood music videos to entertain you & distract you from your friends? so awesome. I'm sorry, I was here with friends? I thought I was here to get lost in these captivating & colorful displays & sounds, while giving my taste buds the ride of their little taste-buddy lives. ANYWAY, So, I had no idea what to order, considering it was my first time trying Indian food. I had the Channa Masala (sounded tame), & I wanted it hot. My eyes watered - & I can't really tell if I was crying because it was spicy or crying because it was so damn good. It was probably a mixture of the two. Anyway, the rice was colorful & delicious. & I am really anal about good rice because I am Filipino & only expect the yummiest rice. Rice bad? Blasphemy. Really happy with this restaurant. it was also very clean from what I could see. & the servers are very friendly. I'd go back again. & again.

Mmmm, the food is really good here, and all the waiters/chefs at the restaurant are really sweet, as well. Sophisticated, good Indian food is hard to come by. This might be the best Indian I've had in Boston. I highly recommend it. The only reason why I'm not awarding 5 stars is because I think it's just a tad pricey. $14 for a channa masala?

Indian food is my one of my top favorite types of food and Punjab is my favorite Indian restaurant. The Mali kofta is unreal. I could eat here every week. The staff is very friendly and the ambiance is also very nice. This restaurant would be a great place to meet for a date or to meet friends. The food, is over the top good if you love Indian. Wow!

Oh my naan! I have been to The Palace twice and both times I have been really happy with the food. I am a sucker for Paneer so I was happy to find that they have quite a few different paneer dishes - the ones I have tried are delicious. They also have a good selection of vegetarian options. Best of all, the portions are generous so there is plenty to take home for later!

Been here twice and left full (with plenty of food left over) and satisfied both times. This place appears to be the real deal. Walking in you immeiately notice the widescreen TV showing Bollywood clips and Indian music videos. The decor is pleasant, but unglamorous. The food however, is spectacular. My first time there I grabbed some garlic naan and a mediium spiced chicken curry. The curry was ALMOST too hot for my tastes (although I suspect that has more to do with my own tolerance as opposed to any mistake on the kitchens part, but the flavors were excellent.) On my 2nd visit I grabbed some Aloo Chole (Potatoes and chick peas cooked with herbs and Indian spices) - this time mildly spiced - and just loved the distinct flavor, especially when coupled with the garlic naan. In addition, the entrees are reeasonably priced givent he amount of food you get, and the waitstaff are attentive and pleasant. All in all, a great place to stop by and enjoy a tasty, no-frills, Indian meal.

Solid 4.5 Stars. Punjab Palace is a definite staple for Indian food in Boston. The menu provides a great selection of the quintessential North Indian flavors, with all of the basic favorites. The best mint chutney I've had to date~ Absolutely impeccable service. Great clean crisp atmosphere. Overall a definite one-up to India Quality, Bombay Club, and Rani.

Wow. Thank you, Yelp. I am SO glad I found this place tonight. It definetely stands out among all the sub-par Indian food in the Boston/Allston area. For about $26 I have an entree (chicken tikka masala, my favorite), an appetizer sample platter (non-vegetarian, fyi), and onion pratha, a thick chewy slice of whole wheat bread with onions. Enough to last me for three meals, provided I stuff my self silly. So I may not know authenticity but I've had enough Chicken Tikka Masala to know good from bad. This was goooood... The mild spice level had plenty of flavor and kick. It was slightly creamy but moreso heavy on bold tomato flavor. Amazing. Finally something that doesn't taste like a school cafeteria's interpretation. The appetizers were surprisingly good, they lost their crunchiness because it was delivery but a few minutes in the stove took care of that. The vegetable pakora seriously made my knees wobble it was that good. The only (barely) low point was the bread tasting a little more bland than I was expecting. I'm not sure how onion pratha is supposed to taste, but I enjoyed it anyway. AND to top it off, the delivery guy walked the food up to my door, was polite, friendly, and wished me a good night. Love this place.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this place, but it was clean and the wait-staff was so friendly. You really get a lot for your money here. I went on a Saturday for lunch, and they start you out with pappadum, a little cucumber salad, and the various chutneys. I had the lamb coconut korma, and my bf had the lamb bhuna. They came with a beautiful, heaping dish of white, red, and orange-colored basmati rice, and your choice of a post-meal chai tea or coffee (a VERY nice addition!). All this for 6.95 a person! Surely not the best food in Boston, but very good, and if you're on a budget, it's hard to beat.

love, Love, LOVE this place! It's a favorite for lunch specials where you can get curry for $8. The waitstaff is amazing, so nice, constantly filling your water. You get to be serenaded by a tv playing Bollywood movies & music videos while an adorable man in a turban makes your food. Delicious curry, naan, and samosas. I usually get lamb curry and writing about it right now is making me hungry. This is a favorite, relaxing place to eat with friends.

I'll second the many positive reviews on Yelp about Punjab Palace. We stumbled in one cold dark night when we discovered that the Indian spot in the Super 88 had shut down for the holidays -- and sure enough, it was fate, steering us toward what has to be the best navratan korma in the city. Now we're hooked. I've heard a rumor that this is the sister restaurant of India Quality, which is usually mobbed - so if you're looking to beat the crowds, this spot is a great alternative to the crazy scene at IQ in Kenmore (also, IQ's korma kind of sucks in comparison). It's also a nice spot to grab dinner before an ear-splitting Allston rock show. It was fairly full tonight when we came in to pick up our takeout, but on weeknights, it's calm -- except for the aforementioned Bollywood videos, which are cranked to max volume. Due to the more relaxed atmosphere here, the servers are also accordingly more attentive, which is nice, since if you're planning on ordering anything "spicy" (they're not kidding), you're going to need someone keeping a close eye on your water glass.

Excellent food, very nice staff, the beer is amazingly cheap. This is the only Indian Place my girlfriend and I have been to in Boston and I can't see us needing to try any others. Also, for being a small place, we have not had to wait for a table (even on a Friday night). Two thumbs way up!

  • Bonilee P.

I love this restaurant. It is small, and the food is great. Its sister restaurant I find too large and impersonal, (plus the food is better here). Whether you come in for lunch or dinner your meal is started with a complimentary plate of papadum and three tasty condiments of onion relish, tamarind sauce and mint chutney. All of them are delicious. The chicken tikka saag is some of the best saag I have ever had, not too salty and lots of interesting mix of spices that make it very satisfying. The beer list is amazing and affordable for those who are beer aficionados or just for someone who wants a nice cold beer. The portions are good sized; I have brought tasty leftovers home on several occasions. I have had various dishes here, all so far I have liked. And if you are ever with someone and there is a lull in the conversation you can watch the Bollywood music videos on the television screen. In my opinion it is not intrusive and adds a little fun to the restaurant. As long as I live in the area, I will definitely be coming here for my Indian food fix.

Love this place. I like going for the lunch specials...the perfect kind of a midday feast. It's great to kick back and watch the Bollywood music videos on the flat screen. Good food for a good value AND they have beer and wine (score). The service, by the way, is the best I've had in a long time. They're very friendly and attentive.

My girlfriend and I just recently moved to the area and we had a hankering for some Indian. We found Punjab Palace on yelp actually, read a few reviews and decided we would make the 2 mile walk. After eating there, I would have gladly walked 5 miles, one way, up hill, in the snow, with bears on each side trying to take my kidney's. the food was pretty awesome, the service was stellar, and the Bollywood music video channel on the TV was just fantastic. It was sort of like a train wreck in the sense that I couldn't take my eyes off it. We tried a good bit of food, she ahd a few glasses of wine, I had a few beers. (Sapporo, which was odd, to find Japanese lager in an indian joint) Had an amazing meal, super friendly staff, and the 2 mile walk home ws nice to sort of burn off what was eaten and not slip into an immediate food coma.

Go-to Indian spot in Boston. I've tried a lot, and this is the favorite. Their spices are fresh from India, and the owner grinds them himself. Lunch specials are great and come with papadam. My favorite dish here is without a doubt the aloo chole. The rice is also a step above the rice at most Indian places, with some saffron mixed in. There is no place better. It will absolutely ruin you for all lesser Indian places in Boston. Go now!

Punjab definitely serves my favorite Indian food in all of Boston. After going for dinner, lunch, and ordering delivery, I have never had a sub par experience here. Portions are generous. The chutney trays are fresh, and servers look to refill them many times during your meal. Punjab is also the one Indian restaurant that understands what I mean when I say "EXTRA SPICY". They find a way to make their dishes explode with heat, while not overpowering the other flavors in the dish. 5 stars for Punjab!

I went to Punjab for the first time two weeks ago and have been back three times since. I am addicted to their lamb masala and vindaloo . Also love the paneer nan with the spicy red onion dipping sauce. Whether dining in or getting delivery you are getting great service and quality of food. The prices are great for the quantity and quality of food. Love this place.

Punjab Palace is a gem. Everything I have had there is excellent, the service is great and the staff remembered me even on just the second time I went there! The bollywood videos constantly playing on the tv is a bit annoying sometimes- it would be nice if they would turn on some authentic background music for quiter nights- but honestly it's a small annoyance for such delicious food. Definitely head over to Allston to check this place out!

My boyfriend and I went to Punjab Palace today after reading reviews here on Yelp. We were armed with some good suggestions from fellow Yelpers. The restaurant appears as though it would be expensive and upscale, and while the food may taste and appear so, the prices are extremely reasonable. We went here for lunch. We started with pampadum - a favorite of my boyfriend's - which was complimentary along with a cucumber salad. We selected the vegetarian platter appetizer for we could not decide on what appetizer to get. We made a great choice. Everything was fantastic. My boyfriend tried the chicken tikka masala, which he claims was "good and creamy." He explained to me that chicken tikka masala is different at every restaurant you go to. He would know, for he is quite the chicken tikka masala connoisseur. I asked for the saag paneer, which is a personal favorite insofar as I am a reformed vegetarian. My saag paneer was also creamy and good. The lunch entrees were served with colorful basmati rice and choice of tea or coffee. I went for the tea, which was a bold blend that I thoroughly enjoyed. We both asked for the garlic naan, which we easily could have split. The spices and garlic are stuffed inside the bread, which is unlike most other Indian restaurants I have been to. Most other restaurants bake the garlic on top of the naan. I really found the incorporation of the ingredient into the bread to be much more enjoyable. Our entire meal came to roughly $30, which is an absolute steal. The waiters and staff were extremely attentive and very warm and friendly. I highly recommend you give Punjab Palace a try the next time you are in the neighborhood. You will not be disappointed.

Punjab Palace provided my first experience with Indian food and I was NOT disappointed. BF and I decided to check this place out shortly after it opened because we were feeling adventurous, but it was right down the street from my apartment. It wasn't crowded, and smelled delicious. We were seated immediately and the service was impeccable. Being Indian newbies, we had no idea what to order. Our waiter was extremely informative and helped us pick delicious dishes. And he never seemed annoyed by our endless questions. We had vegetable samosas and naan, both of which were absolutely yummy. I ordered chicken tikka masala, cause I wasn't feeling TOO adventurous and I don't remember what the boyfriend ordered, but it was lamb and he LOVED it. I'd like to take half a star off for not serving alcohol, but I can't and dammit, Punjab deserves to be rounded up.

The main thing that I loved about this place, beyond the top-notch service, was the large flat-screen TV playing clips and highlights of Bollywood musicals while I ate. Very cool. Who wouldn't want to eat while watching Bipasha Basu? Although two messages to management: Portions sizes of food are great, but there is way to much Salman Khan up on the screen. : )

Whenever my boss calls 6pm meetings, we always take advantage of his well worn credit card and order Indian take-out from India Quality. Then I moved to Cleveland Circle, and the guy laughed at me when I asked if they delivered. Sad, I know. Imagine my elation when I found out that Punjab Palace was opened by the same people as IQ - AND they delivered to me. WOOT! In the spirit of full disclosure, I've never actually stepped foot in this restaurant, so I'm not allowed to give it 5 stars. But everytime I get the craving for some yummy Indian food, delivery from Punjab Palace always hits the spot. I'll also say that I'm not a connoiseur of Indian cuisine, so no guarantees on how authentic it is, but it's definitely a cut above places like Gourmet India and the Indian Cafe in Washington Square. All the basics are done pretty well - Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobhi, and Malai Kofta are all really tasty. Korma sauces are nice and creamy, madras is really fragrant, and vindaloo definitely has a kick. For those with a sweet tooth, try the Royal Naan (or Pashwari Naan) with honey, coconut, and raisins. The rice is super fragrant, which just makes things even tastier. I just tried Lamb Bhuna for the first time last week, and it was oh so savory and delicious! Prices aren't too bad - between 2 people at $20/per person we order 3 dishes and naan, then eat for days on the leftovers. So overall, I'll leave it with 4 stars, just because I don't know any better. :)

The best Chicken Vindaloo and popadoms I've had in a long time! I got it delivered, the food was still hot, good sized portion, and totally reasonable price. I washed it all down with a pint of cheap lager. Dave Lister would be proud!

This may be my go-to restaurant for north Indian food in Boston. The goat curry was delicious. The aloo paratha and garlic nan were yummy. The aloo gobi was a bit too tart--they added pickled peppers. The basmati rice was too dry. The service was great and attentive. I especially liked the clean and simply-decorated interior. An added plus was the flat-screen TV showing Bollywood music videos.

Punjab Palace is easily a 4-5 star restaurant. It has a great atmosphere and the wait staff were both friendly and helpful. Punjab has a great selection of authentic Indian cuisine, as well as many imported beers and wines to make the experience even better. I consider the prices very reasonable for the quality of the service and the food. The Chicken Curry and Chicken Vindaloo (very spicy) are excellent options. Make sure to order one of the nan breads with your meal - the garlic nan is particularly delicious! All in all, if you are looking for a great dining experience Punjab Palace is the perfect place.

What struck me about Punjab Palace was the overall attention to detail: from the decor, to the service & most importantly the food. One of the highlights of the appetizer sampler was the tikka chicken & the samosas (and others) were not greasy, the rice came out perfectly steaming with aromatic intensity, the chicken tikka masala was spiced to personal specification & was generous in portion, the nan was a bit fluffier with less charred from the oven crispness (different/memorable- but I like the traditional nan) & there was enough food to heat up the next day for a second meal. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the interior is super clean & cute, and the Bollywood clips are infectious.

I've been to Punjab Palace a number of times for lunch and dinner and can attest to the food and service being superior and consistent on each and every visit. The lamb vindaloo is to die for: very spicy and rich! They also serve large (and very cold) bottles of Newcastle Ale. The luncheon menu is the same as the dinner menu--the portions are the same but half price (it is a lot of food for lunch). I'll definitely be back--the people who work here are great and the kitchen will not disappoint.

After reading the reviews, I expected a lot more... Nothing was exceptional, yet we still enjoyed ourselves. We ordered the highly recommended chicken tikka masala. It was good. We also ordered the bhindi masala (Indian stir-fried okra), which wasn't quite like the traditional panjabi preparation I know and love, and garlic naan (wonderful!). The mango lassi was a big sweet at first, but they graciously mixed it with some plain lassi to make it perfect! The bollywood videos playing on the flatscreen, prominently mounted in the center of the room, were highly entertaining! I agree with Grace S. who says, "If you don't live in Allston, you should go elsewhere".

hands down the best indian food in the boston area for sitdown dining have been through the entire menu over the last 2-3 years:). been coming here since they opened. owner is extremley friendly and has another place in porter square so isnt new to the game. pros: wide alcohol selection and very well priced beer :) stays true to punjabi food - spicy and im not talking about american spicy....they will make it legit spicy if you ask. price is very moderate very nice ambiance - romantic and homely. chutney is always fresh and availible-one of the best onion chutneys in the city! CHAI TEA is awesome there cons: seating is limited parking is sometimes a pain not really a tandoori place so stick to the curry would recommend the jalfrazzi, lamb coconut korma, chicken mushroom with saag (ASK FOR IT), goat bahar, matttar panner.

I like this place quite a bit. The food is awesome. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The chicken paneer was delicious, just the right amount of spice. Their tikka masala is awesome. Get the chicken coconut korma! It is amazing!!! They forgot my kulfi when I got delivery from them, but considering how good everything else was, I was willing to forgive them. Also, if you eat in, they have a big flatscreen tv on the wall that plays bollywood music videos. It's basically MTV for India. Very entertaining! (for the most part) One thing to note: If you ask for it spicy, they don't hold back. I like that. I like my indian food nice and hot!

If I'm going to be working in the city now, at least one of the perks has to be that I can get a choice of Indian restaurants for lunch. I'm glad I checked out Punjab Palace. I went for takeout, but didn't call in. I didn't know what I wanted and I wanted to see it for myself. The service was very gracious. The young man (he told another customer he is 17) was polite and even offered me a complimentary cup of chai while I waited. The restaurant is small, but tidy and attractive. I could have done without the giant HD TV blaring Indian music videos. Don't expect intimate conversation when that is on. The food was delicious. I got some vegetable samosas, which were substantial and not at all greasy. They included some papadams and the tamarind and onion chutneys that go with it. I also got some plain naan and a chicken madras dish. The naan was wrapped separately in foil and the rice (prettily studded with turmeric-colored grains among all the white grains) and chicken were packaged in separate containers. They even included a paper plate and fork and knife. It's a little on the high side for an everyday lunch, but not unreasonable compared to other takeout places. That's more a function of my budget, I suppose, than a comment on the cost of their food. They do have a lunch menu that offers a budget price for slightly smaller portions. I haven't seen both to compare the amounts. Punjab Palace is a very good Indian restaurant. I've added their menu to my file, although I'm sure I will be trying the other places in the area as well. It's an embarrassment of riches, really.

I was here a couple weeks ago. Overall, a very good restaurant. Regarding the restaurant itself, it's a good size, and the decor is nice. The Bollywood music video station they play constantly is fun and entertaining at first, but I got a little tired of it after an hour or so. Excellent food. Good portion sizes, good rice, good smells, good spice levels... good food. Really good service, too. They were polite and attentive without being obtrusive. Bonus points for the little things: giving me a new plate instead of one that had something on it without me even asking, mints and moist towelettes, and plastic reusable containers to take food home instead of paper or styrofoam.

My favorite place to get lunch in Allston. I'm here about once a week. The lunch specials are very reasonably priced and come with delicious papadum and a cup of chai. 99% of the time I get the chicken madras, great tamarind-spiked spicy sauce with tomato. Delivery is fast.

I would live at Punjab Palace if I could, but I guess I'll have to settle for a regular apartment until then. This little restaurant is delicious and never fails to satisfy a sporadic craving for Indian food. Not only are the Chicken Coconut Korma and Garlic Naan some of the most delicious in Boston, but this place boasts a pretty mean Mango Lassi as well! Oh, and did I mention that this place is clean, well-priced, and has great service too?! Yeah, it's really that awesome. Atiswadisht!

I've been in Boston almost a year now and Punjab Palace is probably my favorite affordable restaurant. I'm always glad I went. It's bright, clean, and pleasant. The service is friendly and the food is always excellent. It's a casual place, but you could definitely dress up and fit in. When I'm by myself I love the Bollywood music videos, and it's not so loud as to interrupt conversation when I'm with others. The menu is very big, and I plan on going back again and again to try new things. The only real problem is that I tend to eat too much. Chicken Tikka Saag and Rice and Roti and a Mango Lassi... hard to save room for the little chocolate mint they give you with the bill.

Punjab Palace just keeps getting better. The food is still awesome, they've added some new dishes, and they now have a really good beer and wine selection. The staff is always friendly, the free peppery crackers (whatever they're called) are awesome, and their renovated space is pleasant to eat in. Glad to see they won the Dawat/Rangoli rivalry.

Punjab Palace is just down the street from where my husband and I used to live, and we have great memories of going there over several years. It is owned by the same people who have India Quality at Kenmore (another excellent choice for Indian food). These two establishments single-handedly served our Indian cravings over the years when we lived in Allston/Brighton. You will not be disappointed!

I love punjab palace. They have great service, great food and a nice atmosphere. I would choose to eat here hands down. I get a craving for punjab weekly. I always order chicken tikka masala and the vegetable samosas. Delicious! It's very nice to eat in the restaurant or take out. Very good experience.

The good part- Good alu paratha and bhel puri. Their chicken biryani is awesome. And saag paneer. The bad part- Unfortunately the food from here did not sit well with my stomach. I ordered Malai kofta and shahi paneer and both were very red/crimson in color (not too spicy, so I am assuming it's tons of food color). For an indian restaurant it's very reasonably price.. you get what you pay for I guess!

so very not impressed. I got takeout from here last night and although the portions, price and service were all good, the food, well I've had better. Steer clear of this place if you expect food to be flavorful and not dry as sand.

I've got some delivery from Punjab Palace on its way at the moment, and I'm already imagining the tasty goodness that awaits me. I order from here regularly, every other week or so, and it's easily my default Indian restaurant. I usually order the same thing: tarka dal. I rarely see this yellow lentil dish on most Indian menus, and I'm beyond thrilled to have found a place that serves this perfect comfort food. I always eat it with raita and crushed pieces of papadum over the rice and dal, which I personally think is an awesome combination, but then again, I could eat raita slathered on pretty much anything. With some bhindi masala on the side, this is one of my all-time favorite meals. I WANT. Yes, I'm getting all worked up over lentils and yogurt and okra, but there you have it.

I have done both take out and eat in at this restaurant. Both were good experiences. The food is great and comes out quickly. It is nicely decorated, the food is tasty and the staff is very attentive and kind. What really stood out for me was that while we were waiting for our takeout food the staff brought us some complimentatry chai. I highly recommend this place!

I'd bet some bones that the high ratings for this place owe almost entirely to decor -- it sure looks like you're in a swank establishment (if you pretend not to notice those paper place mats), so you just figure you're getting served to the same standard. Don't be blinded by marble tables and Amitabh Bachchan on a flat screen! It is generous of me to call this food average. Maybe this girl's just been spoiled by Punjabi Dhaba's low prices/high quality, but Punjab Palace is seriously trying to offer me Trader Joe's Indian quality at ~$11 a dish. I found the service to be crazy slow (the place was almost empty) and totally disinterested, and my channa masala had no flavor, just the sensation of hotness on over-cooked chick peas. My biff also though the chicken in his dish tasted of a poor quality. Breakdown: 1 star for Bollywood4U TV 1 star for a dope ventillation system that keeps the smell sequestered 1 star for really great vegetable pakora I definitely wouldn' t go back, though.

I was kinda wanting to do a 3.5 here but I couldn't so...I'm actually gonna have to round down. Maybe we didn't order the right things..Hmmm. I really like Indian food and I did really like this restaurant. I'm hoping to give it a better review in the future. Here's why it only gets 3 stars: We ordered the mixed grill appetizer. The description on the menu makes it sounds like a wide variety of flavors. It turns out this is really just a plate of fried Indian foods. (Did anyone else know this and I missed out on hearing about this?). By the time my real food came - I was kinda disgustingly full from this fried plate. I brought alot of my real meal home and will (luckily!) get to re eat it. I ordered Shrimp Saag and my fiance I think got Lamb Masala. Both were very spicy even though ordered medium...guess their medium is my really spicy! I think the food was really yummy but was really dissapointed with the appetizer - preventing me from giving this place a 4 or 5.

A worthy Allston sibling to the city's best Punjabi/Mughlai restaurant, India Quality; don't miss the Desi Chinese dishes here. Had I known that Punjab Palace was related to India Quality, my favorite old-school Indian restaurant, I'd have visited sooner. By old school, I mean focused on Punjabi and Mughlai cuisine, which a mere few years ago was the only Indian food you could find in Boston. Our swelling population of Indian and Pakistani ex-pats has driven demand for more diversity: Bostonians can now enjoy regional specialties from all over the subcontinent, as well as from such adopted homelands as Birmingham, England. Punjab Palace shows a bit of this eclecticism, offering scorching vindaloos from Goa and a few Desi Chinese dishes. But its essential charm is in doing Northern Indian fare exceptionally well. Starters, such as vegetable pakora ($3) and onion bhaji ($3), are gorgeous small fritters made tastier with chickpea-flour batter. They barely need their trio of chutneys (onion, cilantro, and tamarind). Tandoori chicken ($11) sizzles like Punjabi fajitas in gorgeous orange-tinged chunks permeated with charcoal smoke. Essential legume entrées include dal makhani ($9.95), creamy lentils, and channa masala ($11), chickpeas in a tomato-based sauce. Luxurious Mughal dishes include lamb shahi korma ($12) in an intensely rich sauce of pounded cashews, and sheek kebab ($12), minced lamb skewers reminiscent of Turkish döner kebab. The accompanying basmati rice is fine, but these dishes are best eaten with traditional flatbreads, such as buttery white-flour naan ($3) or humble whole-wheat roti ($2). Raita ($1.50), mint/yogurt dip with crunchy cucumber chunks, adds a cooling note to chili-fired dishes. And paneer chili ($11), a Desi Chinese dish with mahogany-colored sauce glossy with cornstarch, coruscates on the tongue with fierce, fresh jalapeños; bright garlic and ginger flavors; and chunks of paneer, an Indian farmer cheese doing a fair imitation of tofu. It's a rare example of truly successful fusion cuisine. Kulfi ($3), densely textured Indian ice cream, provides an impressive ending with its yogurt-y tang and a dusting of pulverized pistachios. The kitchen's subtle hand with the Northern spice palette is set off by a room slicker than most Allston storefonts, service more attentive than most inexpensive Indian restaurants, and a riveting spectacle of Bollywood music videos on a big plasma TV. In short, Punjab Palace proves to be the kind of kid brother that would make any older sibling proud.

Admittedly I found this place through yelp. I've been a casual eater of indian food but since trying Punjab I've become sort of addicted. The lunch menu is terrific and the amount of food you get is enough for nearly two full meals. A soup size container is crammed with your indian delight and you have half a chinese take out container full of rice to dump it over. Lunch also comes with the lacey lentil crispy stuff. Really excellent food with a great selection for vegetarians too. Oh and the staff is very nice and accommodating. They've even offered to run the take-out orders to my car because parking can be a nightmare around there.

I love this place every time I have come here its perfect! The staff is always friendly, the food is always as spicy as you want it and the portions are very ample! On top of that they also just got a liquor license so you can cool off from that spicy shrimp vindaloo with a nice cold one! And no dinner is complete without the complimentary Andes mint afterwards...

I've been here about 3-4 times and each time i've had an absolutely outstanding experience. Delicious food (not overly greasy like other indian restaurants), fantastic prices (for lunch, anyway), great portions, clean space, nice decor, quick, attentive and friendly service, accessible location. What more can you ask for?

This little gem is a real treat in Allston. In a part of Boston where I have come to expect poor service and generally kind of gritty establishments, this new Indian joint is clean, speedy, way over-staffed, and comfortable without being cramped. They certainly pack you in with other diners, but no complaints--especially not when you're distracted by the giant bigscreen playing the trippy-as-hell Indian music videos that I never knew I adored so much. The variety is excellent--I've tried chicken and vegetarian stuff from the menu--and delicious. My only beef? (No pun) No wine list--or alcohol in general. Maybe this is a license thing, and it's coming soon, but it's a notable absence.

This is our typical go-to for Indian curry delivery. We usually get the lamb vindaloo and an order of naan and papadum. Always solid, always tasty. Its the best vindaloo I've found so far in the area; just the perfect amount of heat. They also have better prices than most other places. The tamarind sauce is reeeeally good too but sometimes they forget to pack it so I always ask for it. Delivery is pretty quick and drivers are always nice. I will continue ordering here for sure.

I grew up eating Indian / Pakistani food, and trust me, Punjab Palace has really good food. The dal, nan, chicken tikka masala, and chicken korma are all wonderful. The only thing I've tried from here that has been mediocre is the kheer. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I got called out by my delivery guy for not tipping enough. He actually came up to my apt door and waited so I could give him more $. (a) this made me feel cheap as hell! (b) spare me, im a broke 22 year old (c) I live 4 mins away from punjab palace..i know this isn't an excuse..but I use it as one. Either way, the food is great!

I loved this place. The best Indian food I have had in this country. I recommend the Kadhai Chicken. The restaurant is run like a restaurant in India would be, so be prepared for a different service experience than you might receive at typical American restaurants. Lovely atmosphere, will definitely return!

In short this is simply the best India restaurant in Boston. You get more than the money you pay compare to other restaurants around it. The food is just fantastic. I don't eat Indian food a lot but this one is an exception. The service is also one of the best among all the restaurants in Boston. Waiters are always glad to fulfill what you need. Highly recommended.

Punjab has always had the nicest employees and best Indian food I've found in the Boston area. I usually don't order meat at Indian restaurants because I'm picky about the quality, but at Punjab I'm not afraid of getting a hunk of fat or bones or anything in my dish. Their food is always high quality and whether ordering out or eating in, it is my favorite place to go. Also there is usually never a long wait (if any) for dining in and the service is always fast and friendly. I have had a variety of the Chicken and Vegetarian options, as well as the garlic naan, samosas, and a mango lassi, and I give them all 5 stars. Definitely recommend!

  • Alisa K.

We get take out from here all the time and it is one of my favorite Indian take out joints. We did dine-in once, for a casual birthday dinner with friends, and it wasn't quite as good that time. In sum, I think they're great for your typical Indian takeout fare (naan, chicken tikka masala, chole, mattar paneer, etc.), and one of the better Indian restaurants I've found for this in Boston (a city that generally has poor Indian fare, coming from someone with an Indian passport till they were 18).

  • Kimberly L.

This is by far my favorite Indian take-out in the area. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 is because I once tried to order dessert to go along with my dinner and it was terrible. But realistically, you can't expect an Indian restaurant to make killer tiramisu... We always get vegetable samosas, saag paneer, chicken tikka masala and naan. All of them are incredible, come with plenty of plenty of rice, and always arrive still hot. The prices are reasonable and they have never messed up an order. Definitely recommend this place if your looking for delicious, reliable Indian take-out!

I was really excited about ordering from Punjab Palace because I feel there is a shocking dearth of good Indian restaurants in the Boston area since Tamarind Bay closed down, and because it came highly recommended by a fellow Indian friend. Unfortunately, I was left sorely disappointed by the taste/flavours. All of our dishes were the EXACT same gravy! How does chana masala warrant the same spices and flavours as a malai kofta? The chicken was not marinated, but pieces are cut and put in, you guessed it, the same gravy as everything else! I don't know if it's the lack of the chef's imagination/knowledge of true Indian flavours but it baffles me how any "punjabi" does not know what a Punjabi dish is supposed to taste like! To be fair, the staff etc was really courteous and the order was timely. But this review is in light of my yearning for Indian restaurant food comparable to New York or San Francisco, let alone India! My husband and I have resigned to eating homemade Indian, which unfortunately remains above and beyond what is being served in restaurants in the area. I really wish Punjab Palace were the answer to my prayers! But can only justify the high overall rating on Yelp by the fact that people have not been exposed to good Indian food and will sadly walk away thinking this is it!

I LOVE this restaurant. My boyfriend and I always order from here because the food is authentic and delicious! I have both eaten in and ordered out. When I dined in, the service was great- the food hot and fresh and delicious as always! The naan is delicious! I usually get plain, but the garlic is also very good. The vegetable samosas are very delicious and a good, hearty size. I usually get the Chicken Tikka Masala- medium hot with basmati rice. SO creamy and delicious. It is my personal favorite and I can't even get this dish from any other Indian food place anymore because I love Punjab's version so much. When I order for delivery the wait is always 45 minutes or less- so plan accordingly. It is totally worth the wait. The food comes hot and the quality matches that of when dining in. The main manager is welcoming and friendly and sets the tone for the atmosphere of the restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves quality indian food at a good value.

The food here in this restaurant is very tasty, but it is a little pricey. I went here with my boyfriend on a Friday night, it takes around 20 to 30 minutes for them to prepare the food, so they gave us some free snacks. Everything is good, from the mango juice, Rice dessert, nann, to curry dishes.

Delicious. Simply delicious. I love Indian food and had a horrible experience at Kashmir on Newbury. On the hunt for a quality meal, Yelp had led me to Punjab Palace. Thank god for Yelp and thank god for Punjab Palace. We ordered some staples like the Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Vindaloo with Garlic Naan. I love garlic so I didn't mind the overpowering taste, but my dining mate was not pleased. We ordered some Plain Naan for her- $3, the problem was solved and we were both back to enjoying our meal. The Tarka Dal (yellow lentil dish) was also great, but I always need meat with meals, which is why we used it as a side. I'd definitely recommend Punjab Palace.

I travel to Boston from Texas and when I crave Indian food, Punjab Palace is my choice. I drove by tonight, but the parking is scarce, so I opted for delivery. Fast, hot delivery to my hotel, with plates, napkins and utensils. The stuffed naan breads are outstanding, I love the garlicky spice in Garlic Naan. Also a fave is the keema matar- tasty ground lamb and green peas in a spiced sauce. You can specify your spiciness-medium is a perfect balance of flavor and spice. Order online, and a yummy feast arrives a short time later. Great prices and fast delivery. I'm a fan!

Sorry I had to take off a star. But they took the Vegetarian Thali for one person off the menu, so now not a place for one person. Still have the $36 thali for two. But a good place & great food for more than one person, only. What was best about the $18 thali, other than the superb flavors, was that you got multiple small dishes with one order. Now they exclusively have single larger dishes that only work with multiple people ordering. For a great meal with lots of variety, I now go to any of the (very excellent) nearby Korean restaurants.

This place deserves special mention among the many Indian restaurants around Brighton for one, it's authenticity and impeccable service. I have been having food here since the last two years and every time I visit, there's something new in the menu. The food is served promptly and the service is incredible. Coming to the menu, I should say it's extensive. The goat curry is one of my all time favourites here. The mixed seafood masala is the latest in addition and we ordered that along with garlic chicken and cherry nan. The nan is the softest I have ever tasted. Also the food spice level can be modulated based on how well you can handle it and they always make it a point to ask for this when we order the food. The aroma of the food, lip-smacking taste and the wonderful hospitality made our day more special. All in all, I rate it 5/5 and suggest it for every food lover. When it comes to ordering food online from this place, they have a very prompt delivery. Simply amazing.

It took about 35 minutes which was impressive on a windy, rainy night! Delivery man was very friendly. Can't wait to try this place in person. Will definitely order again!

Amazing place for takeout, extremely fast and friendly delivery. Their vegetable samosas are kind of small but have great flavor... definitely my new go-to indian place in Allston :)

I often order from here for delivery. Food is amazing. The variation and quality of food is by far, one of the best indian food I have tasted. Delivery fee is so cheap that I don't mind tipping the drivers extra. Always on time, never messed my orders so far. I will probably try eating at the restaurant anytime soon.

The food isn't bad, unfortunately I developed a bad case of food poisoning after the my last order. I probably won't be ordering from here again, which is a pity.

I like India Quality better. There is something about the food at Punjab Palace that does not compare to India Quality. On the other hand, the bread at Punjab Palace is very good!

Bland flavorless indian food. Not spicy, not sweet, not tangy, not salty. We ordered alu gobi, chicken korma, chicken tikha. Bla Bla blaaah. Even the garlic naan was soggy and .. flavorless. What a disappointment. Maybe I should go order some Desi Dhaba or Punjabi Dhaba lest I forget what decent Indian food tastes like.

We had the dinner special for two, we are real foodies, and eat out a lot, but this is honestly the worst Indian food I have ever had. Meets were dry, almost no vegetables, tastes were uncomplex off-puttingand the soup had a funky taste too, how can you screw up dal soup? Not worth the money! Not worth any money...

Right around the corner so I had to try it out. I got what I always do: Chicken Vindaloo. I'm obsessed with finding the right blend of flavorful and eyeball-sweating spiciness. I got it for takeout and picked it up. It felt warm with the promise of spicy things to come. I ordered it extra spicy when I came in and the gentleman who took my order gave me a doubtful look but seemed to follow my instructions. It wasn't spicy enough, as usual. It didn't even have enough of that great tangy vindaloo flavor. It was a glorified chicken tikka. The chunks of chicken were also kind of fatty and slimy. A lot of dark meat too, which I don't hold against them, it's just not my favorite. It was also a bit more expensive than other indian places I've been to, not much, but enough that I noticed. It was a nice enough looking place and the staff were friendly to me and gave me water while I waited for my food. It also has good reviews for other dishes so maybe I need to stop my vindaloo fixation and eat one of my other favorite dishes here. I'll have to try it again.

I've dined here a few times and got take out once - but never again. I'd give the food 4 stars, but never get delivery. First off, they have a delivery charge that is neither listed on the website nor told to me over the phone. The food arrived at a decent time and upon signing the receipt, I noticed that there was a delivery charge. I was pretty upset about this so I didn't tip the driver. I also am a true believer that if there is a delivery charge then a huge tip isn't necessary - I mean, what exactly is the restaurant charging that for? To-go boxes that I would have gotten if I dined in the restaurant? So I hand the receipt back to the driver and he has the nerve to ask me for tip. Seriously?? You're going to ask me for tip? So I begrudgingly hand over a more than generous tip given his attitude. Not only that, but once I peered into my bag hoping for a delicious meal to calm the rage over the delivery charge, I notice that I'm missing not one, but BOTH of my Chai Teas. I immediately call the restaurant letting them know of my missing orders. The guy is extremely rude and tells me that the driver is now too far away to return - I'm sorry, what?? It had been maybe 2 minutes since the driver left and I realized what was missing. The guy on the phone tells me that the Chai Teas will be free the next time I order. He hangs up without taking any of my information. It's safe to say that I got charged an unknown delivery fee and unwillingly tipped a rude driver for an incomplete order and an empty promise. I'll need some time to decide whether or not I'll return here, but my advice for now is to never get delivery. If you do, know that there is a delivery fee and make sure you have your full order before the driver leaves.

I got takeout on Valentine's day... big mistake. Not the best way to introduce oneself to a restaurant. I ended up waiting an hour in the restaurant, but that was my bad. That kitchen runs! They were shooting orders out faster than McDonalds. I saw my order go in the kitchen; it took less than a minute and a half to have it cooked and bagged. The food was very, very good. I haven't had Indian much, but I can tell you that it was good for me!

For the most part, my experiences here have been good but not great. I love indian food, and while most of their dishes are great, there have been a few misses. Their bhel puri came out with cilantro mixed in and sprinkled on top though I very specifically requested it be left out (I can't eat it- it tastes like soap). Everything else that night was delicious- The Channa Saagwalla was a particular favorite. Their takeout is also more difficult than it needs to be. I placed an order, was told it would take 20 minutes, showed up 25 minutes, then I still had to wait 15 more minutes! I guess they sent my food to someone else, but that 15 minutes made me late to work, so I wasn't thrilled. The food was still very good though. Overall, I would give it 3.75 stars, so I rounded to 4.

the dinner i had here was not bad, but the meat can be a little fresher. it felt like the spices were hiding the meat smell, if you know what i mean. felt a little rushed with the waiters coming up to me every 2 mins to ask if im ready to order. but they were nice in general.. I personally can think of many better indian places than this. and this is v avg for me. might try it again another night but when I'm in allston i always want asian food! (east asian that is)

I get lamb korma in most Indian joints I go to. This was exquisite. Tender, tender lamb and a delicate blend of spices. Perfect. Good service. Bollywood tunes. A great little spot I will definitely visit again.

I haven't dined in, but I ordered some food from Punjab Palace. The food was delivered very hot and very fast--both good things. However, the quality of the food is not what I was expecting. Nothing had very much flavor, and there were a lot of bright, unnatural, colors. I ate the food and it was alright with the pickle that came along with it...but my husband declined to eat anything even though he was hungry. It was, shall we say, rather unappetizing though perfectly OK.

Punjab Palace is the best Indian restaurant I know of in Boston. My wife and I are fans of their Shahi Paneer Makhani. Also delicious is the Chicken Tikka Masala, the Garlic Naan, the Lamb Coconut Korma, the Baignan Bharta, and the Behel-puri. Today we ordered take out for lunch. The food was prepared quickly. When I arrived at the restaurant to pick it up, they gave me complimentary chai to take home, and offered me plates and silverware. They are a gem in Allston!

Got this delivered from Grubhub. Really flavorful, satisfying and delicious, and so much food! One order of the vegetable korma and nan bread can feed 3 people, but for me it'll last me 3 meals! 5 stars for taste, 5 for the price, and 5 for the amount. I am very pleased.

I was looking for a cheaper but still tasty alternative to my go-to Indian restaurants, and Yelp took me here... unfortunately I think it's also sent me back. Why are the curries so runny? Though the paneer and the chicken were cooked well, but the curries were very soupy. I was similarly disappointed in the rice, which looked better than it tasted. It didn't have any fragrance or flavor, and was a little too hard to really soak up any curry. The mild was a little too mild. The garlic naan was OK, and a single order is enough for two. The service was attentive. It's a super sunny, super casual dining experience. While this place might be good if you're looking for cheap Indian takeout, it might be worth splurging a little more.

Wonderful place, good service, delicious food. Not sure how authentic it is but I love their chicken masala and mango lassi. The naan is super fluffy and melts in your mouth! The only problem was that the wait was extremely long. I called to make a reservation and they told me that it wasn't necessary and to just go in. We got there and there was already a line. We waited 40 minutes to get our seats for 2. And then another 30 minutes to finally get our food. Then waited 15 minutes to get our check. This was on a Friday night and they had a lot of take out orders. We watched them finish their take out orders for people that came after us while we just sat waiting for our food. A few other tables also waited for a long time. The place was also really cold with people coming in and out and there was only a thin curtain to keep the cold out. Everything was really good except the wait. I would come back again but not during busy hours.

I always crave for Indian around this time of the year. My friend and I came for lunch this past Saturday and the staff was very helpful. They have great lunch combination specials that come with lentil chips and your choice of coffee or tea. What we ordered: Chicken Tikka Masala - soft flavorful tandoori chicken, creamy, YUMMM! Lamb Coconut Korma - if lamb is your thing, you should give this a try Garlic Naan - a MUST to compliment the rest of your meal Paneer Naan - good but nothing special

  • Dustin D.

Took about 30 minutes to get a table during the weekend but the food made up for it. We had lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala, and tandoori chicken. Everything was delicious: biryani was cooked well, the tikka masala was flavorful and had a nice creamy texture to it, and the tandoori chicken was still sizzling on their hot plate when they served it to us. The naan was crispy and warm and the mango lassi was refreshing The table for two people was pretty small though and there wasn't much room so we had to squeeze our drinks and dishes together. Overall, this place is top notch and I definitely recommend coming here especially with someone special or a very small group.

Very difficult to find a good indian restaurant in the city of Boston but alas this place is one of the few! I ordered chicken tandoori and nibbled at a friend's chicken tikka masala and it was very delicious. The chicken tandoori had some amazing color to it and came out perfectly sizzling. Look forward to my return there to try different dishes though I will still order tandoori chicken if it continually comes out like that!

Was craving Indian food for a while and finally ordered this week. Ordered the Chicken Coconut Korma and it was delicious! Love how the coconut flavor really shines through the dish and the sauce was the perfect thickness. The plain naan was delicious as well. Will definitely be eating here again!

YUM! I've only gotten take out here. I honestly don't even know what the inside looks like so I can't speak to that. The food is amazing. The Vegetable masala is amazing. Their dishes can be ordered mild, medium or hot. Their menu offers a lot of variety and I've never had a bad meal here! The staff is very friendly as well.

After being served unwashed spinach in my saag paneer at Curry House (straight up nasty), I've been on the lookout for a new local takeout/delivery Indian place. Once I found out that Punjab Palace was somehow related to India Quality, I was sold, and ordered a Friday night delivery through Seamless to check it out. Verdict: definitely my new go-to. My chicken coconut korma was flavorful and full of real white meat chicken, the boy's goat vindaloo was rightly very spicy and tasty, the basmati rice was plentiful, the peswari naan delicious, and the samosas nicely spiced. Aside from the quality, I was really happy with both the prices and the quantity of food too... my $12.95 korma yielded me two meals, and Punjab only charges $1 for delivery with $15 minimum food order. Further, the delivery was really quick; estimated delivery was 45-60 minutes, but it was at our doorstep piping hot in about 15. A great choice for local Indian. UPDATE: the korma is also awesome (golden raisins and almond slices?! delicious!).

I made the mistake of ordering from this restaurant online through GrubHub. BIG mistake. They brought the food in an hour, which is acceptable because of traffic and weather. Though they are 2.4 miles from the Fairmont. I specifically added a request to include forks, knives, plates, napkins. NONE OF THESE WERE INCLUDED. Those of you who eat Indian food know that it is nearly impossible to eat without these items. In the trash it goes - what a waste. We called the restaurant and they said it would take another hour to bring the items to us. Since they are 2.4 miles away, we found this unacceptable. We called GrubHub and just told them we would leave the food outside our door and we don't want to be bothered by them. We will go out to dinner tonight. HORRIBLE.

So 1.5 years and many meals at other Indian restaurants later.. I have to say that Punjab is one of my favorites. Great food, service and atmosphere. I see that many people have had some negative experiences with delivery but I've dined here atleast 7-10x over the last 3 years and have had consistently good experiences. Love the saag, tikka masala, vindaloo and the garlic naan!

  • Cindy H.

Love coming here for the lunch special. So far, I've had the chicken vindaloo, chicken korma, and chicken tikka masala. All delicious and filling. Plus, I find those 3 chutney flavors they have at every Indian restaurant are always the best here. Never any complaints or regrets choosing this place.

My new favorite delivery place. Every time I order from Grub Hub it always arrives correct and quickly. Mango lassi - yum. Chicken paneer masala - yum. Chicken korma - yum. Naan - ...you get it. Maybe it's because I'm new to Indian food. Maybe it's because I'm Irish. I always go with the "mild." Ventured to "medium" last time and it made me cry. I wish there was a middle ground. Maybe that's just me though.

Man, i just love Indian food. We haven't actually dined in this place, we always do delivery or pick up, but this place is solid! My all time favorite is the Shahi Paneer and the Pashwari naan, but so far everything we have gotten from here was really good! The shahi paneer is creamy, silky with the right amount of heat, with nice chewy cheese yumm. All the curries we tries were really good, but I just keep sticking with this one paneer dish as i know that I can stuff my face with it and then spend the next few hours in a happy satisfied post-Indian-meal heaven. And their chutneys which come with the starters are great too! Delivery time depends on the time and the day, Saturday evening it can take a little longer to get your food but they can be super quick at less busy times. And I know it s a bit nerdy, but I love that they record orders in their system. I can just call, say my phone number and say "the usual please" and I am all set :-)

Although a little pricier than some other local Indian joints, they've got chicken saag made with the all white meat chicken from the tandoori oven (featured more regularly in chicken tikka masala). Yum. To me, their naan is a little more doughy than I'm used to, which I'm on the fence about. Fan of the mulligatawny soup. I've had bad luck with the samosas via takeout... I've had them arrive soft, not crispy which isn't my preference.

I've ordered delivery from here several times and have always been pleased. It's a little pricey (what's up with charging $1.25 for one piece of papadum that doesn't even come with sweet tamarind chutney?), but the quality is consistently good. The portions are pretty generous, and the garlic naan is really good, too! Plus, they're willing to deliver for just $1 extra!

Fast, tasty, courteous. Rice is particularly tasty. Only thing they could improve on is the Spiciness. I asked for Indian hot and it was medium at hottest.

Fantastic place! Garlic naan, onion naan , vegetable samosas, vegetable pakoras, dal, lamb vindaloo, chicken tiki masala, chicken korma, get the tandoori mixed grill ! Best I've had ! Can't go wrong here! I've been to many Indian restaurants & my mom 'a from India so my opinion matters more than yours.

I'm definitely coming back to this place, so will probably edit my review with five stars. Only giving four this time because I came for lunch and don't feel I got a wide enough sample of the menu. You MUST order the pashwari naan. It's a sweet naan with coconut and raisins which I've ordered at countless other restaurants. The coconut is KEY to this wonderful dish -- and at Punjab Palace, it's nearly perfect. Ridiculously fluffy, just the right amount of fruits, and sweetened with honey, I could have solely eaten this for lunch. And at $3.95 for four slices, it's much more filling than it looks = a good deal. I had the lamb coconut korma, and my friend ordered the manchurian chicken (as spicy as possible, so despite my loving spicy food I didn't dare to try it). My lamb was tasty -- very coconut-y flavor, which I loved, and it paired nicely with the basmati rice. However, I think I was pretty full from the naan already so didn't enjoy it as much as I could have on an empty stomach. Tea, coffee, or chai accompanies the lunch, and I ordered chai. It was pretty light and milky, though my friend were pleasantly surprised by how strong their coffee was. Will definitely be back, and probably with more people so we can order more food :)

I've gotten delivery from Punjab Palace a few times before dining in, but I can say that both experiences are great! Delivery is always faster than Grub Hub tells me it is going to be, usually by 15 minutes or more! The food always arrives hot and there is plenty to go around for just two people. (We usually order two dishes and one order of rice and we have leftovers afterwards.) Dining in is nice. Though I've never been on a weekend, during the week at 7pm it was nearly empty! We were greeted immediately and although our waiter was a low-talker, he was very nice. This time we got garlic naan, my boyfriend got some kind of Indian beer, and I got masala chai. This plus our meal was fantastic and served at just the right pace. The look of the place is really nice and they have a TV playing an Indian music video channel. One downside to the location is that there is no off-street parking and the delivery guys and some patrons double-park. Even a woman who came in to pick up an order was double-parked for about 15 minutes while people were trying to get their trapped car out! It's a busy road, so parking may be hard to find on busy nights. The restaurant was also pretty cold. I also wish they had more than 3 levels of spiciness for their dishes; I like when Indian restaurants have 1-10 or 1-8 ratings, not just mild-medium-hot. The hot was just right for me, but if I could bump it down a teenie notch it'd be even better. This isn't the best Indian I've ever eaten, but it's damn close!

The waiters here are so nice! My boyfriend did think his water was getting re-filled too much, but he's just picky. They give you a cracker like appetizer with four different sauces, it is really good. I ordered the chicken tikki masala. and wow, it's super creamy and the chicken wasn't too dry, which always seems to be a problem at many indian places. Also tried their mango drink which was really tasty!

When you ask for "spicy" here, they will give you seriously spicy. It is fabulous. Before tonight, I had only dined in the restaurant itself, and have always had a good time there. I consistently received fast, friendly service, good levels of heat, and delicious, warm naan. And then tonight, I had the joy of experiencing delivery a la Punjab Palace. Quick service, pipin' hot foods, and a level of spicy that I have never gotten from another Indian establishment before. I'm talking my cheeks are still red and my mouth is still burning as I type this review kinda spicy. The onion chutney is to-die-for delicious. Spicy, seasoned, succulent--the consummate chutney. The peshwari naan was sweet, but not saccharine, and provided a nice palate cleanser, especially when paired with the scorching chicken vindaloo (note: I ordered all these VERY HOT, and they definitely delivered it!) and the fiery malai kofta. Everything was so delicious that I basically had no choice but to eat through the pain, sniffly nose and all. It was THAT good. I am so--*pause to sniffle*--happy I found an Indian place that's not only delectable, but also DELIVERS.

I've ordered from Punjab Palace on a handful of occasions over the past 6 years that I've lived in or near Allston. The food has always been good enough that it's remained my go-to source for Indian when I'm ordering from my apartment. What's motivated me to finally write a Yelp review for Punjab Palace is the exceptional service I've received over the past week. Last Tuesday, Boston was hit with a bad snowstorm--I was stranded in my apartment, and put in an order to Punjab Palace. It was about 30 minutes past the estimated delivery time when the driver called--traffic was bad and he was headed toward me, but would be some time longer. I assured him there was no rush and to drive safely. It was probably another 30 minutes or so before he arrived, and apologized profusely for being late. I told him there was no problem and thanked him for coming out to me. Tonight, I ordered from them again for dinner. When my food arrived (earlier than expected) the driver told me that the owner felt badly for how late Tuesday's order was, and had included a bottle of champagne, on the house. It's rare to get such personal treatment from a restaurant providing delivery service--especially when their service on Tuesday was impressive, and far from anything requiring an apology. I was touched to receive the champagne, and I promise to continue to give Punjab Palace my service, as well as recommend it to all my friends.

SO glad my friends and I decided to come eat here! It's ALWAYS a good sign when there is a dining room full of people. We were waiting for a friend, but the waiters didnt mind. Gave us a chance to catch up on each others lives and look over the menu. Everything looked so good and I have a super soft spot for curry. I wasn't all that hungry before we sat down, but as we waited and the delicious curry fumes consumed me, I NEEDED to order an appetizer. We chose the Aloo Tikki. Super tasty and had a nice spicy kick. Next time, I really want to try their samosa. we each got an entree to share. Aloo Chole, Bhindi Masala, and Shahi Paneer Makhani (I think) this all came with a side of rice and we ordered one roti. let me just say, the portions are a good size and we had leftovers. Everything was very tasty and I will definately think of this place when I'm in the mood for Indian cuisine. can't believe I've walked by this place so many times and I've only stopped in once. Surely, it won't be my last :)

Outstanding and very very tasty and carefully prepared food. One of the free condiments had a wonderful cucumber base. I ordered a veggie dish with tofu and they cooked the tofu just right, not rubbery, not squishy, but infused with flavor; coconut curry was properly spicy with an undertone of subtle flavor. Taj beet was properly chilled. And we had a cherry nan made with cherries and honey. Prices are very reasonable. Good service. Very clean. Attentive and friendly staff. Now our go to Indian restaurant in Boston. Best Indian food I've had.

Ever since they opened I never had a bad experience. Their food is amazing! If you want to introduce people to Indian food, this is the place. Many of my family members discovered Indian food because of this restaurant and love the Tikka Masala, the rice and Pashwari Naan. The whole combination of creamy, sweet, spicy and salty flavors together are DELICIOUS! Their Mango Lassi taste like heaven. Their samosas are crispy and spicy. Their tamarind sauce is my favorite. I could eat that stuff everyday. Overall their service is amazing, the waiters are very attentive, their food is amazing and I refuse to go anywhere else when it comes to Indian Food. I just wish they delivered to Watertown!

This was the first Indian takeout I've tried since moving to Boston, and it may well be the last. The lamb keema and coconut curry were both fantastic. Delivery was also reasonably quick and The portion sizes were wholly reasonable. I'm knocking off a star because the bread basket was a letdown (the breads were all chewy and greasy with a floury aftertaste). Next time (and there will be a next time) I'll stick to naan.

    (4)
  • Hannah M.

Totally blah and bland :(. One of the few Indian restaurants that deliver to our house so we went out on a whim and gave it a shot. Won't be ordering again. Everything was bland, even the tamarind sauce and chapati!

Punjab has excellent Indian food. I don't eat it too often and there are times I can't tell good Indian food from okay Indian food but Punjab does a good job. I got the Sagg Paneer which was delicious along with their fresh naan. It wasn't as spicy as I requested it to be. But all in all, prettyy good. Would come here again if in the area.

  • Joy Y.

I just love this place. I have been here many many times and they always deliver a consistent meal. My faves are the Chicken Vindaloo--HOT-- yum! the Garlic Naan and the Lamb Korma. I always get a Mango Lassi to cool it all down as well. The free chutneys they have at the beginning of the meal are also very tasty. I especially like the onion one and the cilantro/mint one. This place is a bit on the expensive side, but I think I usually feel that way about Indian food for some reason. Oh, the best part of eating at the actual restaurant? The awesome Indian videos they have on the TV-- extremely entertaining to say the least. The guys that work here are super nice and I have never had to wait for a table- even on a Friday night. Clearly people have no idea what they're missing.

My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new because we were so tired of having pizza all the time so we decided to drop by Punjab Palace. We were going to go to BonChon but then found out when we got there that they don't do lunch on weekends.. (what restaurant does that?! -_-) Anyway, we made it in time for lunch and we both ordered the chicken tikki masala with roti on the side. Before you get your meal, you're given a free appetizer. It's kind of like a large circular cracker that's paired with some veggies in a dish and 4 different sauces you can try it with. It was pretty good! The service is GREAT. When we walked in they smiled very brightly at us and seated us right away, our waiter kept refilling our glasses of water and was very quick when we needed something. LETS TALK ABOUT THE FOOD SHALL WE. The chicken tikki masala was VERY creamy and delicious. The chicken was tender and the food was nice and hot. Paired with the rice, it made a great meal. I was very full just half way through our lunch. The roti was alright, I wouldn't rave about it! I got better roti at a food court shop in Prudential.. But definitely this is a must try!

I liked this place. Its nice inside, the wait staff is friendly. The food comes quick, service was great. The food was really good, we had the naan sampler, the chicken tiki masala and saag paneer. all were great, i would avoid the onion naan next time but I am not a huge red onion fan. i would get everything else again, and the chutneys they serve are great too. would go back, a nice indian place in the area and they also have the best reviews.

I've never been to India, but I wager that the crowd found in Punjab Palace is akin (in number) to that found in any veritable whole-in-the-wall comfort food joint straddling the Indo-Pakistan border. The food here is simply amazing. It's served on metal trays for added authenticity. The menu is as long as the dead sea scrolls, and after ordering, you're given a number which is shouted out 30 minutes later alerting you that your meal is ready. If you happen to wait upstairs where you'd be woe to hear anything but the dim rumble of chatter on the lower floor, you might find yourself scrambling downstairs just as you hear that your order will be tossed lest you show up immediately. The eggplant main dish is something like scrambled creamy eggplant - the texture of baby food, but much more enticing. It's served with some pickled peppers, a mound of pipping, soft, sweet Indian rice, na'an as large, warm, and fluffy as a loaf of Wonderbread, and some Indian yogurt to neutralize your palate. The chicken tikki is simmered in a creamy red sauce that's succulent enough and permeating enough to allow chicken a texture similar to slow cooked ribs. There's nothing tough nor dry about this white meat.

KEYWORDS: COLD, SOGGY, BLAND I really had an Indian food craving tonight, after a rainy day. I ordered the vegetable samosas, the lamb curry and the mango lassi for delivery. Here are all the things that killed it for me: 1- the food arrived cold. I like my food at least warm, especially when it involves something fried and covered in sauce... 2- the samosas were soggy from the water vapor condensed in the plastic container. Also, I did not like the sauces that came with the samosas (one tasted like ketchup with vinegar, and the other was tomato paste with raw onions). Where are the chutneys and/or the yogurt sauces? :( 3- the lamb curry was sooo bland. It really had no density or kick to it. The lassi was good. I know it is supposed to be super sweet traditionally so I will not complain. Overall REALLY disappointed. I am not a picky eater but you expect something better for a $25 meal.... I don't understand how people have given this place good ratings. Not worth it, I promise. It feels nice to vent :)

The food is amazing and always consistent. The vindaloo is my favorite! I have never eaten in, but the delivery always shows up hot. I order from here all the time and keep coming back for a reason, great food!!

I've been coming here for a while now, and I am never disappointed. Good food, good prices, and if I ask for something to be milder, and someone else wants it spicier, they do it. I am surprised (but happy) that it's never crowded.

In the midst of busy Allston... this is a nice find. It's a nice place.. not like Fat City.. and it's right near Bonchon if things don't work out here. Honestly though.. you're going to wait longer at Bonchon. :P I am being a little harsh on this place because there are some things I think are standard dishes.. but they aren't that good. There are some things that are delicious here. First.. thought that the tikka masalas were awesome. They really are very good... buttery, tender.. my favorite was the fish.. it was indeed better than the chicken. The chicken is tender though.. so it was good. The garlic naan was awesome! Very galicky.. be sure to make sure your date eats some too so you guys won't notice. ;P The not so good that was dissapointing.. the benghan bhartha (it's an eggplant dish). Not so great.. so much better at Kashmir on Newbury. Also not that great.. the saag. There was so much ginger in our saag.. which I don't think is standard.. plus they add a lot of cream/butter.. it doesn't even look dark compared to most places that make the same thing. Also dissapointing was the spice level... this is a place where hot is really medium.. and medium is nothing. If you like spicy.. kick it up a level. They were great in wrapping things up... nice service.. pleasant atmosphere. I like Kashmir better though.

Just ate here again for lunch, and it's still as awesome as it was the first time. The waiters were on point and always refilling our glass before we even had to ask. The Chicken Madras was great and spicy. The naan was still good even if it's not my favorite (I personally like the naan a bit doughier). All in all, another satisfied visit. ALSO, my girlfriend's meal and mine was $26 total after tip. That ain't bad at all.

My girlfriend orders from here at least once a week and is obsessed with the place, and for good reason! The food is great and they deliver, so those are definite pluses. The actual restaurant is nice, and the constant bollywood on the TV is pretty entertaining.

I have cheated on my first love -- India Quality, I will always love you but my heart belongs elsewhere now... You know the drill. It's Friday Night. You and your roommates just finished p90x and feel entitled to a couple thousand calorie dinner that will more than eclipse your workout....for the month. Too lazy to even change out of your gym clothes, you and your roommates scour the internet. Filters -- late night, free delivery, within 10 miles, two $$ restaurants (hey, its Friday night...live a little). We stumble upon Punjab Palace after incessant nagging from the peanut gallery that there will never be anything that can trump India Quality. Well Gary....you couldn't be more wrong. Coming from a science background, I must order the same dish for reproducibility...Lamb Coconut Korma it is. My only mistake --thinking that I am able to battle with the leathered tongues of seniored Indian chefs and I foolishly order "spicy." I swear I could hear the smirk over the phone. The flavors of this amazingly saucy delight transported me back to my days in New Delhi...sipping Chai with Punjabis talking about how freaking hot it is while eating lamb curry that was alive mere hours ago. The experience was THAT intense. Remember the ending scene of Ratatouille when Anton Ego takes a bite? Yeah...that intense. Come here, but don't be an idiot -- order the medium spicy. Your date won't think any lesser of you, I promise.

This place has the honor of being the first restaurant where I dined out upon moving to Boston, and the memory is a fond one. Very polite and pleasant service, delicious food. The menu is standard for Indian restaurants in the US (ie, you'll have an easy time ordering) and the naan is especially good. There is a screen playing Bollywood music videos, and it is loud, and I get so annoyed when people complain about it. God forbid your cultural norms be upset for five minutes. Every surrounding bar & grill blasts the Celtics and Red Sox games at full volume on eight screens whether I want to watch it or not. If watching awesome music videos where all the men are wearing flowing white shirts over their chiseled abs and all the women have it going on in the hips area in a major way really bothers you, don't come here. Did I just out myself as bisexual in a Yelp review? Yes, yes I did. Back to the Punjab Palace: I have eaten here a few times since arriving in Boston and every time the food was great and the service prompt. Portion size is on the large side so be prepared to get stuffed or take some home.

Despite rave reviews, I still didn't expect it to be THIS good. Amazing chicken tikka marsala and spicy lamb. My mouth waters just thinking about it. The lamb was so addictive and spicy that my friend and I had to fan our faces as our pores opened up, our noses ran, and we glowed like broiled rotisserie in the oven. If you've never had Indian food, shame on you. Spice of my life!

I love this place so much that I used to go inside and pig out by myself while I was waiting for my laundry to be done. I've had a pretty wide selection of menu items, but I generally would kick things off with the veggie sampler appetizer- so good, with pakoras, samosas, and even more I think. They have great naan options, and MANY delicious entrees. I don't know what else to say, I've never had a bummer experience here! If you're feeling Indian tonight, do it right and hit up the Punjab!

I ordered takeout around 9pm on a Friday night. I received my not-so-hot food approximately an hour and a half later. The Chicken tikki masala was bland and lacked flavor, as did the naan. Disappointing.

One order of chicken tikka masala, naan, and samosas made three (deliiiicious) medium-sized meals for $28 including tip. A lot of reviews say to be wary of the "spicy" so I expected the mild to be a step up temperature-wise from other "mild"s... but it was very mild. Am I even making sense? Anyway, it was super good, but I might go for the medium next time. Yes, delivery took around an hour, but as long as they're there when they say they will be (or earlier), it's not too big of a deal. Have another drink. Congratulate yourself a little longer for making such a tasty choice for dinner. Consider what you will do with your life after realizing how great this place is.

I've been here two or three times and found the food above average and the staff very friendly and willing to go the extra step (mix and match dishes to please a vegan) to accommodate their customers. they make a whole wheat nan that was delicious.

I recently went to this tasty Indian restaurant with my brother on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. We ordered two dishes of the Masala variety. We got the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Lamb Masala. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala medium spiced while the Lamb Masala was mildly spiced. Both dishes came with basmati rice. We also decided to get some naan. The cool thing about our dishes was that we got some nice hot, English style tea to drink to warm up from the cold weather. While the tea was not Indian Masala chai, it was decently creamy after putting a little cream in it. I really loved both the Chicken and the Lamb dishes. The Chicken Tikka Masala at medium spice had a pretty good amount of spice to keep me warm. The chicken itself was very tender and not dry, making it probably one of the tastiest chicken meats I've eaten in an Indian restaurant so far. As for the Lamb Masala at mild spice, I did not detect much spiciness, but the meat was also tender, chewy and flavorful. They tasted really good with the basmati rice. As for the naan, it was fresh out of the oven and the Masala sauces were great enough to make the naan tastier. The dishes also came with this small plate filled some sort of cabbage. It had some spice and oil on it, but it was also tasty as well. Bathrooms were really clean, almost like a hotel bathroom. Service was also pretty good. There's a giant flat screen TV that shows some old music videos from India. I think I saw a younger Amitabh Bachchan dancing with an actress in one of the videos. Overall, I thought I had some of the tastiest Indian food in the Boston area so far, and it's a great value if you come here during the weekdays for lunch, the dishes should be under $10.

The food is amazing. Definitely the best Indian food I have had in Boston. They are my go-to Indian delivery place, and I'm giving them four stars instead of five only because delivery can sometimes take more than an hour (and I live less than 1 mile away). However, it's always steaming hot when it arrives. Watch out, though -- their idea of "spicy" is not for the faint of heart!

I used to come here many years ago and always got take out which is excellent. Recently went there with my wife and friends for dinner and had a great time. The food is excellent, and this is coming from someone who has grown up on Indian-Pakistani food. The service excellent. The prices were decent. It's a good sign when the restaurant is packed every night of the week, has native Pakistani and Indian people eating there as well as local Allstonians.

Punjab Palace has the best Indian food I've ever eaten. It's convenient it's right down the road for me, but I haven't had any Indian food better than what they create. I've never eaten inside the restaurant, and always get takeout. However, their customer service at takeout is spectacular. I always order through Foodler, and there was one time they missed the appetizer I ordered. I called them up to inform them of this, and they said they would make it right away and have it ready within 10 minutes. I ate most of my meal with my girlfriend, then went down to pick up the missed appetizer. When I got there they also threw in an extra rice pudding and apologized for the mix up. I tried to give it back, but they insisted I have it. It was damn good pudding, and since then have made sure to order it. If you're craving Indian food, I'd say this is the best in Boston, and the staff are the nicest I've ever met.

I've been here a few times and this place never fails. I've only ever eaten in the dining room so I'm not familiar with the take-out or delivery experience. The waitstaff is always good, the food is always delicious and the price is right. I usually have enough to take home for a second (or third) meal. Highly recommend.

So this might freak some people out, but I ordered via Foodler at 9:43 last night and the delivery guy called me at 10:04 to tell me he was at my place with the food. I got the chicken vindaloo and garlic naan...it was EXCELLENT. The food was steaming hot and definitely fresh. Full of flavor, and relatively cheap (although I believe Indian food in general is not that cheap). I will definitely order from this place again for my Indian needs, and update as I work my way through their menu. PS, I got the vindaloo with "medium" spiciness, and it was SPICY. I also have a high tolerance for spicy food, so this might be too spicy to those vulnerable to spice.

I love this place. They have literally everything you could want in an Indian restaurant. Where else can you get some of the spiciest food in Boston and watch old school Bollywood videos at the same time? This place a one stop crash course in Indian food. A veggie platter with samosas, pakoras and deep fried spicy cheese fritters. A gigantic selection of nan (garlic is a personal favorite) and entrees that will serve both carnivores and vegetarians alike. I'm a serious fan of spicy food. When I first stared eating spicy food, I went there and had to get mild. Three years later even the spiciest isn't to spicy for me. If you want to get in shape with spicy food, this is your gym. What I love most about this place is even when I go a solid 6 months with out coming in, they still remember me. The delivery is excellent and fast too. I will always love Punjab and I'm probably bias but I really think it's the best Indian in Boston and maybe even the universe.

When I saw that there was an Indian restaurant with higher ratings on Yelp than my beloved Punjabi Dhaba, I knew I had to seek it out--and fast. Punjab Palace comes close, but PD is still king. PP (sorry for the acronyms) is delicious and affordable (seriously, those $7.95 lunch deals are out of control*), but nothing blew me away like the dishes I've had at PD. Their menu is huge, however, and I will definitely be back to sample more of it. The one thing Punjab Palace has over Punjabi Dhaba is accessibility. *Can't choose between chicken and paneer? You don't have to! Try the chicken paneer, only $7.95!!! (I am totally missing out on a career in marketing.)

Boy do I love Punjab Palace - I've tried a couple of different indian places throughout the metro-boston area but I just keep coming back to Punjab. I've never had a bad food experience here - oddly I've only actually eaten at the restaurant once, so I can't really comment on the service in-house, but I get take out probably once a week at least. I love love love the vegetable samosas (and always ask for extra chutney it is amazing), the onion bhaji, the chicken tikka masala, the lamb curry, lamb vindaloo, chicken korma, onion naan, garlic naan - man I could go on. Sometimes I even just pick something on the menu I've never had before and its still amazing. Anyway food aside, the take out (or delivery) is super quick and when I go in to pick up my order everyone is friendly and helpful. The restaurant always seems clean and orderly and of course who doesn't like indian pop music videos playing on the flat screen. If you want a delicious indian meal, I fully recommend Punjab.

I am perplexed by the high ratings- I love Indian Food and have tried many places over the years. I find the chicken vindaloo bland, the chicken tikka masalla was fair- Poori bread was flat and the nan was awful. This is my second time trying this place- I thought the first might be a fluke but it was not. Not only that but I (and another person), waited close to an hour for what we were told would be a 20 minute wait, my car was nearly towed. So I am moving on- there are plenty of other Indian places to try

Friends and I went here after some googling and yelping for some good Indian places in Boston. We were there on a quiet Monday afternoon (it had just started to snow, and break was starting for most colleges in the area). The portions are deceptive in their size (as I find with most Asian cuisine) - they look small but they are quiet filling. I would have liked to know that the rice was unlimited (they served it in one plate for our table, and we weren't sure if that was it or not and felt shy about asking), though it didn't really matter because we ended up having a little left over. We also ordered naan which was fresh and soft and perfect. I love that they serve coffee/tea (your choice) at the end of your meal for lunch. As for the setting, I think it's worth it to mention that it doesn't seem convenient for groups greater than 4 people.

This place is excellent. While dining with family members and discussing a past (and another upcoming) wedding, the waiter came over to chat... He had just been in India for a relative's wedding. After a pleasant conversation, he sent over a Tiramisu on the house - wonderful! Great family restaurant and good food.

Believe me, I WANT to like Punjab Palace. I want to find a really awesome Indian place in Boston, preferably within a couple miles of my apartment...Unfortunately, this is definitely not it. I ordered the shrimp curry and the onion bhaji. The shrimp was overcooked, the rice dry, and the sauce a sort of mildly-flavored gravy; the ginger that was supposedly in it gave off a faint smell but no real flavor. I think it's a definite case of old, stale spices that have long passed their peak -- and with Indian cooking, that kind of ruins everything. The onion bhaji was really spicy but the flavors (combined with two sauces) didn't complement each other that well. I got it delivered, and the bhaji was definitely getting that fried-food-gone-soggy thing that makes it impossible to reheat. Again, I wish this place lived up the other reviews. But for me, it just didn't. The search for a good Indian place in Boston continues.

To the reviewer that suggested that this food is not real Indian food, perhaps you need to revisit this restaurant again. Being NYC bred and raised in what my youthful companions used to call "brown town," I think I can safely say that Punjab Palace produces some decent authentic Indian food, for this part of Boston. Everything was tasty, and my goat was tender. As for spice authenticity, I cannot attest to that since I'm a MILDMILDMILDMILD person. And since I spent 4 lowly college years in the Pittsburgh area, I can say there is no need to fly there for comparable Indian food. Perhaps except to India.

Meh. I wanted to love this place, since it's so close to my house. I've gotten take-out from there twice now, and "meh" is all they get. I've had the chicken tikka appetizer, onion bhaji, chicken tikka masala, channa saagwala, and chicken saag. The saag was bland, and the chicken tikka appetizer was really dry (note, it's not tikka masala, and has no sauce; it more closely resembles tandoori chicken). The channa saagwala (chickpeas and creamed spinach) tasted inexplicably like chocolate, with large chunks of overpowering ginger. I enjoyed the bhaji, and appreciated that it came with all of the standard dipping sauces/chutneys. I was most disappointed in the chicken tikka masala; the sauce separated and had a very strong vinegar flavor, and none of the mild creaminess it usually has. All of the flavors in the meals were just off, and I feel no desire to try Punjab Palace again. Not to mention, it's really expensive. They charge $12.95 for entrees that Rangoli (the Indian restaurant that used to be there) charged $8.95 for, for far poorer flavor. On to find a better place to get Indian take-out from!

My roommate and I order food from Punjab Palace to be delivered (usually via MixMenu.com ) whenever we think we've waited long enough since the last time. We've found some dishes there that are SO GOOD that its difficult not to keep stuffing yourself even after you're full. For me, the aloo matar. For her, the chicken tikka masala. For the boyfriend, if he's around, the lamb saag. For all, the veggie spinach pakora things and the naan bread basket. The naan is top notch, and not surprising, my favorite is the naan with the peas and spinach baked into it. So its somewhat expensive, but if you pace yourself there's plenty of leftovers. And they have a $7 lunch deal that is very affordable. The non-stop Indian dance music can be overly exhilarating though.

The food here was very disappointing. As an Indian, I know what a good biryani dish or paneer chilli should taste like, and what it should LOOK like. I'm not sure why this is rated so highly, but to those looking for some really good tasting Indian food in the neighborhood, I'd suggest JMP foods down the street at the Super 88 food court. Punjab Palace is not worth the price.

Extremely tasty Indian food, at an amazing prize and in quite a lovely environment. I will definitely be taking friends here in the near future. My friend and I started by splitting an order of samosas and paneer pakora; these were the only two dishes that didn't impress me. The samosa were a bit soggy and rather bland, and the paneer pakora was dry and crumbly. Things picked up, though, when our chicken tikka masala and chicken tikka saag got to the table. I've eaten chicken tikka masala all over the US and found the tikka masala at Punjab Palace to be among the best: just the right amount of creaminess, and very subtle spicing. And the chicken tikka saag was absolutely out of this world. Delicate layered flavors, perfectly cooked spinach, a curious hint of sweetness -- no matter how many bites I took, the surprise and delight of the dish never diminished. The garlic naan was also most singularly toothsome, but positively SEETHING with butter, so consider yourself warned. The dishes came out in good time: everything was obviously cooked to order, and came out still sizzling. Service was also very prompt. Another thing I appreciated: my friend and I ordered Diet Cokes, but when I saw the proprietor pouring the sodas out of a two-liter bottle, I tried to cancel my soda order (I'm a carbonation freak and can't stand even slightly flat soda), but instead he gave me a can. Just a little thing, and obviously to be expected considering sodas were $1.50, but I was happy with how pleasantly he responded to my slightly eccentric request. For $15.00 each, my friend and I were so friggin' full that we felt drunk afterwards. You could easily get two meals out of it. Or one long, leisurely meal, spent enjoying the absurd and delightful Bollywood music videos playing on the flatscreen! Bliss.

4 stars only because I haven't eaten at enough Indian restaurants to judge whether this place deserves 5 or not. But the food was awesome. I had the chicken jalfrezi. Everything else was good too. Prices are comparable with other Indian restaurants in this general area. The waiters were friendly, informative, and attentive. Great place for a fun night out with friends. I would come here again fer sher.

Perhaps I got my food on an off-night, given the other reviewers on Yelp. Or, maybe it's because I'm from San Francisco, and am used to really plentiful, extremely delicious AND reasonably-priced Indian food restaurants (the same quality as in England). But, Boston, (speaking to the city of Boston, right now - smile-), I just don't know. I just haven't had a really good Indian food experience, Punjab Palace included. This was not a good deal, despite fast service (and delivery through Mixed Menu). The Chicken Tikka Masala was so dry, I had to keep drinking water to push it down my throat. The sauce was spicy but not flavorful. The Palek Paneer was edible -- an interesting mix of flavors, and it wasn't bad, just a small portion for the cost. I liked the rice and the (plain) naan, and I know the prices for Indian food are higher in Boston than SF, but it's still high for what I got.

Wow. How did I drive by this place for the past two years without giving it a second thought? Last nights impromptu quest for Indian cuisine proved to be a life changing event. Now... I don't know what it was that I ate (the boy took the lead on that one) but I do know that it was heavenly. I do believe I had the mild Chicken Marsala as well as a spinach dish with delicious morsels of cheese nestled in the sea of green leafy vegetables. The naan was also delicious... but that is a given as I have yet to meet a carbohydrate that I have not fallen in love with. The service was prompt and unobtrusive, the wine was delightfully inexpensive yet still pleasing to the palate and the decor was quaint and cute without pretentious extravagance. Hurrah.. another local gem to frequent on a regular basis!

Good standard Indian food (I know Indian food very well). Consistent. I have never eaten in the restaurant but have gotten delivery a number of times. Food always tastes good - always of good quality - gets delivered promptly. I will keep ordering from them! Veg. biriyani (slightly overpriced in my opinion), Daal Makkhani are my favorite.

This is my favorite place to get Indian food in the city! The vegetable pakoras are my favorite and the delicious chapati bread is so perfect to scoop up chickpeas and rice. My boyfriend and I frequent this place so often that all the people who work there recognize us. Excellent customer service and extra tasty food right around the corner from my house - and amazing Bollywood music videos playing non-stop? That's a five star restaurant if I ever heard of one.

This is my favorite place for Indian food that I've tried/found in boston. The portions are large and prices are competitive to other places I've had. Sometimes I'm not into paying as much as it asks, but I always justify it because it's so good. Def recommend the Chicken Korma and Tikki masala. Their nann is wicked awesome too. What's also great is that it delivers and it's always hot when I get it and still tastes as good as when I've actually eaten there.

Inspired by Slumdog Millionaire's Oscar sweep, I'm finally reviewing my favorite Indian spot. My boyfriend and I come here almost every week and order the same thing. We start with a coconut soup, which tastes like a mounds bar minus the chocolate, it's ah-mazing. Then we get an order of garlic nan, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and rice of course. This is usually enough food for dinner plus we take turns taking the leftovers for lunch the next day. :) I'd really like to try something new on the menu, but I fear change. As other Yelpers have noted, the Bollywood music videos are great entertainment. The only downside is parking which is nearly impossible. We probably get a parking ticket every other month because of Punjab, but it's worth it. Also, with all the take-out, people are coming in and out of the restaurant and it makes it very cold inside. They should look into one of those curtains for the entryway. Plus it makes the place feel super fancy. Also - we went here on Valentine's Day and they gave every girl a rose on the way out. Thoughtful little extra.

Ah, my happy heart. A friend from out of town arrived somewhat late on a Friday night, and we strolled for dinner, intending to go for my first time to Ariana, which was full. Luckily, there was a single table open at the Palace nearby, so we ducked in out of the chill and feasted on Indian beers, onion bhaji, a couple of curries, and a bottle of wine, totaling less than $65.00 (before tip). Service was excellent (if not mildly confusing, since at one point there were five different waiters taking care of the two of us). Having moved to the area somewhat recently, I'm making it a goal to try as many places as possible before having a repeat performance, but it'll be hard not to cheat in order to get back here more quickly.

I think that I have high standards for Indian food. This place was good, but not truly exceptional. Came here with a friend, and we ordered the two-person combo, which was a lot of food. We each probably took home a meal's worth of food - three people could share this without a problem. We started with soup - I had the coconut, which was really interesting, and some papadam. Then we got the main dishes, which included lamb curry and grilled chicken and beef. The chicken was a bit dry, but the curry was pretty good. The naan that came with it was tasty but unexceptional. I liked the service and decor. Fairly classy for a low-key Indian place. They also had the requisite Bollywood playing in the background. Came to like $30 plus tax and tip for the two of us.

I went here on 9-15-09 with about 10 people. Not everyone was on time, since the restaurant was empty when we arrived (It is a small restaurnt) and I had made reservations for 10 people, the staff was friendly and courteous but at some moments they seemed a little snobby. But it wasn't too obvious. I think their TV (showing mostly Indian Music Vidoes) is a little bit too loud given the space of the restaurant is so small. Literally half of the people enjoyed their food and half didn't. I didn't. I do not know what drove me to order Saag Paneer, but the paneer was chewy and the "medium" spice level was non existent. The others ordere Veg. Jalfrezi and didn't enjoy it. However, people did enjoy the lamb dishes which were my recommendation to my friends. I would prob. check out this place again. My entree + sparkling water cost about $14 which I didn't think it was over the top. However, I was QUITE disappointed with the fact that 10 people ordered 10 entrees and they didn't supply sufficient amount of rice and then charged our party for "ordering extra rice."

It was alright food (I had the vegetarian curry). I enjoyed it but my mind was not blown. The scenery and ambiance of the interior is charming. The staff is very patience and understanding, which, when you go out with my roommate and all her dietary issues, is a plus. My house went out here for a roomie's birthday. It was a pleasant surprise when the end of the meal featured a honey cake for the birthday girl.

Excellent Indian food. Some of the best I've had, and it would get 5 stars: IF I had never lived in the UK. Living over there I got spoiled by how good the Indian food was. With that said, this is some of the best Indian I've had in the States. I always get the Chicken Vindaloo, extra spicy, when I go for Indian. This was very flavorful, but not as spicy as I had hoped for. Still, it was delicious and I slurped up every last bit of it, and polished the plate using my awesome cheese naan. My fiance had the obligatory Chicken Tikka Masala. She said it was amazing, although I did not try any. Each dish was served with rice, which I have found rare in Indian restaurants (you usually need to pay for it!). The waiter was attentive, but not particularly friendly. The atmosphere was a bit bland, but the TV on the wall with Indian music videos made up for it. I hate trying to find parking though, but that's the case with anywhere in the city. I will most certainly be going back at some point, though.

I haven't had Indian or Pakistani cuisine in awhile but had the chance to dine here on a whim for my friend's birthday when our other reservations fell through somewhere else. It was a pleasant experience. We shared the chicken masala (mildly spicy) entree with garlic naan... so delish! We also got an appetizer platter.. I wish I paid attention to what exactly was on that platter but overall good items! Is it me or was I the only one that noticed that it was all male waitors? Nothing wrong with that but I felt a little rushed towards the end and they gave us 2 bills after I had paid. Parking: Street... It is Allston so if you are driving be prepared to circle around for parking if you come out during the weekend evenings.. Try behind Blanchards public lot.

I've had Indian food a couple of times before, but nothing like Punjab Palace...it was excellent! I ordered the Chicken Tikkia Masala which was delicious! It had just the right amount of kick to it. The Paneer Nan was also really good. They give you just the right amount of food so that you don't need a doggie bag but leave there feeling a 'good full.' The music videos that played on the flat screen, along with the waitstaff gave Punjab Palace a great atmosphere. I'll definitely be going back!

The presentation of the food and the service was great! The portions were the right size if you have a big appetite! The chicken madras and tandoori chicken were soooo tasty- the meat was tender the right amount of spices (nothing too overbearing) and there was plenty of rice to mix in with the yummy sauce! They had a t.v. that shows bollywood music videos and in general the restaurant is sort of tiny- but worth it! go go go!

Pros: It's good Indian food. This is true. Delivery. Cons: It's not quite as good as Punjabi Dhaba or the Kebab Factory in Cambridge. Balance: EVEN BOTTOM LINE: If you live in Allston, this is where you should go for Indian food. If you don't live in Allston, you should go elsewhere.

We ordered here 3 minutes before they were going to close. We used to be big big customers at their "sister" restaurant, India Quality (or I think it is related). I politely asked if it was too late to order. The guy kind of teased me in a very polite way about being last minute. After we joked around for a minute he went to talk to someone, came back and took our order. He even said he was dropping it off on his way home! Gosh. I love these people. We were and just got in from a long trip so it really was awesome. We TRIED to call Rangoli first actually to get delivery but they opted out. Anyway... We ordered the vegetarian appetizer platter. Hm. Not as good as India Quality.... tasted re-heated in a microwave--- but I was expecting that so late at night to be honest. If I order again and they're fresher next time I'm giving them 5 stars instead of 4. I ordered Malai Kofta, which is log shaped vegetable and cheese "balls" with a dense, tender dumpling kind of texture. It was in a creamy sauce that seemed like Korma. I loved it. It was yummy, the flavors stood out, the "balls" were delicious and it was awesome. I asked for it Mild and it was perfect. We also ordered Chicken Manchurian... which to be frank was a risky move since the description made it seem almost asian in nature: white meat chicken cooked with garlic, ginger, tomatoes, soy sauce, corn starch and spices. Upon smelling it, it seemed like it could be an indian version of general Gao's chicken, but... thankfully it really wasn't sweet at all. The person who ordered it wanted it spicy and it WAS! They loved it and would order it again. Definitely not typical indian fare but not asian really either. We also got Chicken Tikka, it was good. A bit heavy on the seasoning, which I personally would have liked, but we ordered it lightly seasoned for the person it was for and he thought it was still rather heavy. Also it was clearly not that fresh--- again our fault. Finally we finished up with some poori. It was supposed to be coconut poori but I couldn't taste it at all. It was really really dense and also didn't taste fresh. It was truly disappointing, but I'm hoping next time its better. And again, if so, 5 stars. The nan was delicious and generously portioned out. We also ordered to bottles of soda which arrived cold and refreshing. All in all, aside from some freshness issues, which I can't help but reiterate, were our fault for ordering at the last minute and ordering fried items without thinking... it was scrumptious and we can't wait to try more unique things on their menu like that chicken manchurian. For any vegetarian, the malai kofta is a nice change from the usual "mixed" veggies thrown into whatever sauce your ordering. But note, if you are vegan you'll have to skip it since has cheese in the balls and cream in the sauce. In any case its highly highly recommended if you like the sweeter Korma-like curries.

This place was a super, trusty treat whenever I need a pick-me-up. If you don't want to leave your apartment, they deliver. They are friendly and non-problematic. If you're dining in, you'll be amused by the fun videos playing. They also serve Old Monk 10,000 beer which is a very potent treat. I always got saag paneer and chicken madras, and it never disappointed.

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees. I LOVE PUNJAB PALACE. My bestie and I have been regulars for quite some time, and our "regular" is chicken korma and saag paneer. Omgosh I cannot begin to describe how awesome the saag paneer is. THE BEST i have EVER had. It makes others seem like mush. // We usually get our dishes mild because we both cannot take too much heat; and lets face it.. what's the point of eating (too much) spicy food when you can't even taste it? But when its not spicy enough.. I'll reach over to the beautiful condiments they have on each table and take a scoop full of the spicy chutney =) That's another thing. Punjab is the only Indian restaurant that I have been to that have these PERFECT condiments on the table. I LOVE IT! I love mixing the mint/basil sauce and sweet tamarind sauce together and putting it with everything I eat there, especially on the papadum or even their nan. mm Mmm MmMmmm.. Their Lunch Special is out of this world. I WOULD RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO GO HERE FOR LUNCH! It was less than $20 for our lunch. We had the papadum appetizer and our regular with the rice (sometimes naan) and CHAI comes with the special after the heavenly meal.. oh man. *Midnight Chocolate Delight... will take you places you've never gone before and back again, in a few wonderful moments of euphoric bliss. ahh, Thank you Punjab Palace for always leaving me oh so happiliciousfied.

I don't particularly like writing very detailed and long restaurant reviews. I enjoy a no frills approach to reviewing restaurants. I like eating out, I love eating on the cheap, and the spicier the food is the better. So because Punjab Palace filled all those desires, I rate it highly. This is a great Indian restaurant for a lunch date in the Allston area. The lunch specials are around 7 dollars each, and they feature both meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Better yet, two people can eat lunch for under 30 dollars here. Also, the food especially spicey. The garlic naan had bits of garlic cooked right into the dough which really made the seemingly average naan stand out. I was delightedly surprised by how flavorful everything was here.

I am SOOO going back here as soon as possible... Seriously, this is one of those places that you only WISH you could find- and once you do find it, you can't believe you found it because it's so awesome. Yeah- Yesterday me and my GF were doing a "Best of Yelp" tour around Boston. We were in the mood for Indian, and Punjab showed up as one of the top hits. I'm glad it did... While finding and paying for parking in this area might be rough, it's worth it in the end... Inside Punjab you'll find a very well kept, modern, and friendly atmosphere... The waiter I had was VERY attentive and filled my water at least 5-6 times lol... The kitchen line looked very sharp, and very clean... Cloth Napkins, too! How classy lol... The Food was very good. From the several curries I tried, to the naan, pasta, finger foods and white rice- everything tasted outstanding. Nothing was too spicy for little old white guy me, and everything was full of flavor. The price tag seems a bit steep for lunch, but when you factor in the quality of the food you're getting, it seems about fair. Near the end, I had a chance to speak with the host. He told me how they offer different dishes everyday and he appreciated us stopping by! Kindness and good customer service go a long way, and i figured I'd spread the love over here to Yelp! 5 Stars, I will be back, soon!

A great little spot in the swirling cesspool of Allston. The saag paneer and garlic naan are some of the best versions of these dishes I've had. Polite, courteous staff with a clean and quiet interior. I go here often to dine in or take out, and it's always consistently delicious.

When I moved to Brookline from Cambridge, my two laments were trading the Red Line for the Green (shoot me!) and leaving all the awesome indian restaurants on the other side of the Charles. Seriously, the lack of respectable indian cuisine is my biggest complaint about Brookline. But at least now I've found Punjab Palace... cause Allston's close enough. Awesome food (including a whole page of vegetarian options), excellent service, random decor/entertainment -- basically, everything you could possibly want in an indian restaurant. Wonderful naan. Best mango lassi on *either* side of the river. I'll be back... as often as possible.

I have been getting food here at least one per month for the last few years. The food is delicious. Portions are generous--I definitely tend to get a second meal out of leftovers. The aloo nan is heavenly. The sauces are wonderful, too. My only complaint is that they can be uneven with the spice level on some dishes. I ate lunch here with friends a few weeks ago, and one friend who ordered a hot dish seemed to get a dish with the same level of spice as another friend who ordered medium-level. Although they were two entirely different entrees, the heat level should have been noticeably different. The staff is also super-nice. I usually order take-out over the phone and then come after it's ready, but I've walked in to order, too, and they always sit me down at a table and give me a free cup of very sweet, very milky chai so I can sip that and watch Bollywood music videos while I wait. I have also eaten in once or twice, and they have always been super-attentive and courteous. Highly recommended.

Deliciously amazing. Service was friendly, prompt and we never ran out of water. Delicious goat coconut. Perfectly spiced. The saag paneer was to die for. Not the mushy goupy saag, but a good balance of smooth & creamy and still the flavor and integrity of the spinach intact. The bread basket was HUGE. Portions were more than generous. Their lunch prices are SO low, lower than I'm used to for Indian food. Their chutneys/sauces served alongside the meal are ALL delicious. My favorite is the green-yogurt based one, and the other that is spicy with I think sliced onions in it. We were fighting over it, we actually ate ALL the sauces and were a little embarrassed because we wanted more.

I go here constantly for their chicken tikka masala and samosas. The samosas are awesome, by the way. First, their portions are generous. Second, even though I only go here for take out, every staff member treats you with courtesy and welcomes you with a huge grin. I would recommend them highly for takeout- I'll have to dine in one day to see how that experience is!

I think it's about time I wrote a review for Punjab Palace, as it has been my go-to Indian take-out place for the past couple months. I have some mixed feelings about Punjab Palace, but any bad feelings are strongly outweighed by the good feelings, hence the 4 stars. Let's start with the good. No, more like awesome. Punjab Palace makes fantastic vegetarian dishes. My favorite thing to order is the Aloo Palak (spinach and potatoes over a bed of rice), medium spicy. And trust me, medium spicy is not for wimps! I also really really love the Vegetable Pakora appetizer (fried vegetable fritters) and the 2 sauces they give you to dip them in! SO GOOD. This place deserves the 4 stars for these 2 dishes alone. On to the not so good. The naan is disappointing! I LOVE naan, so I was super disappointed when I ordered some from Punjab Palace and it just didn't taste right, maybe a little dry. booo. Also, their meat dishes are just not as good as their veggie dishes. Another yelper mentioned the quality of the meat isn't top notch, and I have to agree that when I ordered a chicken dish there it wasn't as tender as I had hoped. Alas, Punjab Palace still gets 4 stars from me, and will continue to be my favorite place to get Indian takeout. (Also deliver is super quick, I have never waited over 35 mins, and is FREE).

Hi! I'm an India Quality Fan and love this place as well. I find the Blaring Bollywood music videos to be great entertainment. I mean where else in the world do you have choreographed monkeys (as in trained people with limited other skills, not meant as a racially derogatory comment in anyway you trouble makers you! ) numbering in the 20's or 30's per song. Ya screw you Brittney Spears and Janet Jackson, your dance troups have nothing on these guys. Seriously when it looks like you took your local punjabi uncle with the big moustache and chin goatee, beer/ nan paunch out his taxi and into a music video AND he's totally in synch and on rhythm! that's worth kudos! The food is good, sometimes oversppiced, it depends who's cooking. This is indeed the sister of India quality same owner and staff, same good food and service. The DInner for 2 is ALOT of food. enough for 3, but one person doesn't get soup! bwa ha ha! I still say they have some of the best breads in the city and they're still my favorite Indian spot with in the 95 hwy loop. but honesly i'm so content i haven't tried anyone else lately.

Their sauces are fabulous and everything was cooked perfectly, which means I will be back! Beware of the goat with bone, because there are chopped up pieces of bone in the chopped up meat, so a piece can sneak up on you (my friend broke her tooth on a piece). But the goat meat itself was amazing. I'm dropping one star because despite the fact that it wasn't very busy, the service was really slow and the waiter also got one of our items wrong and forgot another item, and the coffee was the worst I've ever had.

My husband and I have been searching for a good Indian restaurant since moving here from Texas. We stumbled across Punjab Palace and were very satisfied. The vegetarian samosas were well seasoned and decently sized. The chicken tikka masala was very creamy and delicious. The chicken vindaloo was very good, but even though I ordered medium, I still couldn't feel my lips after the meal because it was so spicy. My husband's chicken tikka masala (which he ordered spicy) was nothing compared to my chicken vindaloo. For the items above and two extra orders of naan, we were surprised to only spend $40! We were sooo stuffed and think this is a great deal for the money because the portions are very decent.

First things first: phenomenal service. Seriously, these guys take care of you. Don't let the prices fool you, this place isn't your run-of-the-mill Indian restaurant dolling out average Chicken Tikka Masala. It's a cut above in both service and food quality. It's easy to get to by the T (maybe a 5 minute walk from Harvard Ave stop). The naan is excellent, better than any other place I've had it. The tikka masala sauce is rich, aromatic, and deep in flavor. They clearly use high quality meats. One complaint is that the tandoori items can get dry, especially the chicken, and they are served on a bed of onions and nothing else. Some rice or another type of veggie would have been appreciated. Something else of note: the beer is pretty cheap. $3.50-3.75 for almost every beer on the (limited) menu. A quality hoppy beer, like a Sierra Nevada, accompanies almost every spicy, earthy dish you'll get here. The low cost beer goes with the low cost food. Seriously, if you're a local college student and love Indian food, this place is a go-to. I know it is for me.

Definitely one of the best spots for Indian food in the city that I've tried so far... I can be a little picky when it comes to Indian - I was spoiled by spending 4 months living in Jaipur, but this place was on point... Aloo matar was on point (and not too spicy - I ordered it mild and it was indeed). The naan was delicious as well - not at all heavy and just delicious. I forget what my dining-mate got - some sort of chicken dish - but he said it was great as well. Service was excellent, and nothing can beat the bollywood music videos playing on the flatscreen... I missed those gyrations and dance moves!...

best. Vindaloo. ever. It could've been the generic name or because it was the only Indian delivering until after 9. Or it could've been the person who took my order that was YELLING AND KEPT YELLING UNTIL WE HUNG UP but I really wasn't expecting much. 30 or so minutes later, the food comes and I am IMMEDIATELY taken in by the smell. Vindaloo + garlic na'an + the deep fry scent of samosas (insert heart shaped eyes here). As twisted as this sounds, if I can bottle up this scent, I would keep it with my perfumes and take a whiff just to get a momentary curry high. And when I finally unpacked everything, it was heaven. PURE heaven. Seriously, the vindaloo, na'an, and samosas here beat all the ones I've had before. I still dream of Punjab Palace. The next time I'm in Boston, I plan to bring an empty perfume bottle, order the same thing, and capture the scent to take with me.

I had been looking for good Indian food in the Boston area for some time. After reading the reviews for Punjab Palace, I thought this might be it. The restaurant is small-- which is normal for the area. However, there were about 6 waiters/bus boys for about 10 tables, and service was still slow. When the waiter did come to our table, he was very nice, but with such a small place, you shouldn't have to wait so long to get the check. As for the food, we ordered the samosas, which tasted like they had been frozen and reheated. Don't recommend. For the meal, we got the chicken vindaloo, chicken Chana masala, and garlic naan. Both main dishes were excellent, but the quantity was not really worth the $13 each (though they do come with rice). Absolutely no complaints about the naan. Overall, the main courses were great. If they were a bit cheaper--or contained more food per plate--this may have become a go-to take out restaurant. However, I'm not sure how likely I am to return.

With a craving for Indian Food, I wandered into Punjab Palace in Allston this evening. I walked out satiated, having experienced fine service and some new flavors. Punjab Palace is pretty conveniently located on the 57 bus on Brighton Avenue. The restaurant itself has a clean and modern decor, and it is set up rather comfortably. The restrooms are very clean, which is nice. And the service is good - not quite as attentive as at India Quality, but still great at refilling water and looking out for you. I strongly recommend trying the naan stuffed with lamb and spices. It's about $0.50 to $0.60 more than the plain naan, but it's completely worth it. I'd had garlic naan before, but never naan stuffed with a protein. It was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spices baked into the bread. I also recommend their lamb masala dish. I decided to mix it up a little and have lamb this evening. While you can go all-out with vindaloo, I decided to go with masala, and I asked for them to prepare it "hot". It was hot, but very flavorful and by no means overwhelming. It paired perfectly with the rice (among the best Indian restaurant rice that I have had) and the aforementioned lamb naan. Definitely stop into Punjab Palace if you're looking for Indian food in Allston. It's a step above Indian restaurants, and you'll enjoy the atmosphere and service. (Did I mention that their TV constantly plays Bollywood music videos? Not really my thing, but it's cool for the atmosphere.)

This review is for takeout! We probably based our decision on naan prices and this seemed the cheapest, based off the menus available online. Ours was a pretty standard meal: two orders of garlic naan and an order of chicken tikka masala to share. All of that came out to 20 bucks, plus tax... not bad for a dinner for two (we ate more than our fill), plus they offered free delivery within 30 minutes! The only thing I probably could have done without was the person on the phone hesitantly trying to upsell me. Food wasn't the best ever, but better than average... next time, we'll probably order a spicier version... If you're used to spicy foods, the medium chicken tikka masala tastes pretty mild.

Employees at Punjab Palace are quite friendly and useful. The food was delicious, even so, the rice wasn't especially that wonderful. I had butter chicken and it tastes just like how it did in India. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was precisely what I expected--Indian music videos playing on the televisions, the smell of Indian inside the air, and quite friendly staff. What I liked most was you get the feel which you are in India for that brief moment. What I dislike could be the food prices. I spent very easily $20 on a meal just to myself. If I had been in India, the meal would have been 1/4th the price tag or much less. Nonetheless, I guess we need to anticipate this given that they may be the only Indian restaurant in the location. Overall, I'd suggest this location to eat. Wonderful for lunch, and excellent for a location to spend a dinner.

Reading the reviews posted here for this place, I must say that I'm quite surprised that they are so good. Maybe I went on a off night. I was in Boston for business recently, and was craving some indian food. After reading some reviews I thought I would give this place a try. Being from Toronto, where we get an exceptional variety of indian food, my expectations were quite high for this place. The decor was quite simple, the staff were quite friendly. But on to the food. The food was okay, apps were quite greasy, but what really stood out ( in a bad way) was the lamb kebab? Like how dry is dry? You could tell that this lamb was just warmed up and wasn't cooked fresh. It was dissappointing. I guess for Boston standards this places rocks!?! Maybe I came on an off night? Whatever it is, I gotta believe Boston has better choices for indian food.

Coming from California I had low expectations for Boston-based Indian food. Punjab was pretty good and they did a great job keeping the food mild, though the overall quality was not exceptional. My main complaint would be the price ($70 for 4 people), but a major perk was their $1 delivery fee.

The best Indian food I've ever had! Good food, nice little place, good service, reasonable price! I had Lamb Malasa( I'm not sure if I had the right spelling), it was yummy, and I asked mild spicy, it was really spicy! lol My bf had chicken, it was delicious too! And the price is reasonable! I will definitely go back!

Hi there, So, you like Indian food? I sure do. For many reasons. I love the taste, but what I love best are the massive bowel cleanses the day after consumption. Some days I swear I've not only passed the food, but also the small Indian villages that passed down the recipes. Goes in good - goes out good. It's all good. I love this place. Verbal diarrhea aside, I truly do love Punjab Palace. It has become a regular place for me. Their lentil soup and tomato chutney have been blessed by Shamen's as they are some the tastiest things I have ever eaten. They have a great vegetarian meal for two that comes with a variety of yummy options including: curried vegetables that are absolutely delicious, and the best saag paneer in town. If you like Indian food, check this place out! Check it out if you like to poop too.

I really like Punjab Palace. The food is very good and their service is excellent. Their menu is extensive and diverse. I love it that their Indian beer selection extends beyond Kingfisher. I am a vegetarian and can only comment on that portion of the menu. My favorite is the Malai Kofta. Their bread is excellent and authentic. I will be going back again and often.

Prior to eating here, my last time eating Indian food (probably 8 years ago) was the time in Montreal where me and my drunken high school buddies ditched the bill at an Indian Buffet restaurant. Let's just say I ended up superman diving in a moving Toyota Camry while being chased by angry brown people with brooms. Scary? You bet. Since then, I've matured and have acquired an appreciation for spicy foods. Service was efficient. And yeah, I did enjoy the Bollywood music videos playing on the big screen. The complimentary breads were amazing as the sauces had surprisingly great flavors. I absolutely enjoyed munching down garlic nan for appetizer too. I really liked my curry with chicken. It had intense spices that left me a happy camper. My girl had the chicken tikki masala and it was also pretty good! Because of this place, I am now a huge fan of Indian food. I just can't wait to come back to try the chicken vindaloo. I hear it's good stuff.

this is only the second time i've had indian food. third if you count pakistani. which is kinda the same thing but i'm sure there are minute differences which will piss off avid loves of each. whatever. we got delivery which arrived hot and fresh. the samosa was good, but everything else was outstanding. i got the lamb curry (which i felt was a pretty solid indian ol' standby... i need to acquaint myself with the basics of an ethnic food category before getting too wild with it) and my dining companion ordered the channa sagwalla which was a spinachy curry with chick peas. both were yummy but H-O-T. i just ordered regular hot for the lamb curry, but we got the channa sag "EXTRA HOT" as a bit of challenge and they sure let us have it. i'm probably gonna go medium next time. and omg the lamb was good. i still have some in my fridge which i'm warming up for din. can't wait. GET NAN WITH YOUR DINNER cuz it really ties the meal together. you can dip it in curry, mop your plate, scoop rice, whatever. it's necessary in my opinion. we got the aloo nan witch is stuffed with potatoes and peas and comes with mint, onion, and mango chutneys. the onion was the best. the mint is good for cooling down your burning mouth cuz you were overly-confident enough to order your food "hot". didn't really like the mango. planning on eating here in the actual restaurant soon

I love me some Indian food. Be it lamb, radioactive red looking goat or some good ol paneer. This place is really the best value in Boston. The amount of food is substantial and surprisingly, the beer list, yes the beer list offers stuff that I have not seen anywhere else in Boston. I'm still eating leftovers from this place. From the service to the oh so deliciously spicy morsels, I'm a tiny bit more hooked than I usually am after a single visit. More please.

The block of restaurants on Brighton Ave between Harvard and Linden do not disappoint! I had lunch at Punjab Palace with 2 friends today and was amazed with the quality of food at such a cheap price! We got the Vegetarian Platter appetizer to share, which included vegetable pakora (veggie fritters), samosas, and 2 other appetizers that I couldn't decipher what they were. Everything was delicious! We also shared an order of regular Naan, which was warm, fluffy, and perfect for soaking up excess sauce in our entrées. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala (I know, boring, but I was craving it) and really enjoyed it. Honestly, the best part of the meal was this red chutney/salsa that your server will automatically place on the table. We put it on almost everything! We were so close to asking our server if they sold jars of it separately. Anyway, this place fell right into our college student budgets. This huge lunch - app platter, naan, and 3 entrées - came out to $13.50 each for 3 people including tip!!! I have a feeling I'll be getting take-out here often.

So good! It's so hard to find well-priced Indian food in the states, but this is it. (thanks yelp) The samosas were delicious, service was great, main courses were great, food was nice and spicy, and we loved the bollywood videos playing in the background! Not too fancy, but also not too dive-y, we'll definitely be back there soon!

Went there for lunch yesterday and I highly recommend eating here. The service was great and the food was some of the best Indian food I've had.

I met PP at an MIT party two years ago. After a few sips of mango lassi, I took her back to my place. Five magical nights and a papadum later, she became my steady. Don't get me wrong, I've surely been tempted. I find it hard to ignore her cousin Dawat's robust and fragrant Tikka Masala, her aunt Rani's consistently delicious lunch buffet... even her sister Bhindi Bazaar's value and accessibility! But when it comes to what counts, PP always delivers. There's something about her smile, and her Chicken Tikka Saag (arguably the best thing she has to offer), that melts my heart. Pros: - Great value for lunch - Damn big portions - A half-dozen amazingly good menu items - Nice atmosphere (especially with the Bollywood music videos... really sets the tone) - Really clean (restrooms and all) - They give you AfterEight-like chocolates after dinner Cons: - Service is spotty - Some items on the menu... well... they suck (e.g. stay away from the salmon) - Going along with that point, the gulab jamun is flavorless and served cold! I recommend: Appetizers: Vegetable Samosas Misc: Mango Lassi, Onion Chapati, Garlic Naan Entrees: CHICKEN TIKKA SAAG (medium heat), Shrimp Korma, Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, Aloo Gobhi, Aloo Chana, Lamb Vindaloo Okay, in all seriousness, this place is delicious. I would give it 5-stars if its menu consisted of what you see above. Instead, I have to forgive its shortcomings, focus on its strengths, and binge on as much saag as my digestive system can handle.

Dine-in is great - food is always delicious and fresh, and they're unlikely to mess up your order. But every time we order take-out, the food is either sub-par, and more likely than not, they'll mess your order up. I want to love Punjab Palace, but they really need to get their take-out and delivery organization in order. And when you call to tell them they gave you the wrong things, they'll say "oh, what's your name? ok, next time you get it for free." They won't refund you for giving you something you can't eat, and when you re-order to get your freebie, they'll screw it up AGAIN.

These guys know what they're doing. Punjab in Arlington has been our favorite for many years but this little place is actually a cut above - the curries are extremely aromatic and somehow not as heavy as those in otherwise superb Punjab in Arlington. The vindaloo is especially impressive. If you like your vindaloos extremely hot, you'll be happy ... but even if you only like yours medium hot you'll get tons of intense flavor without the hint of sourness that mars so many other vindaloos. It's also my 9 year old daughter's favorite Chicken Tikka Masala, which might not sound like much but it's her favorite dish of all and she's had it in probably a dozen places and she's VERY PICKY about her Tikka Masala. In a city where an extremely mediocre place like Diva in Somerville is unjustifiably popular it's great to see it being done right in a very tiny but classy place in middle of Allston. Parking is tough but you'll eventually find something on Brighton Ave and it's well worth the hunt.

I love this place. I always get the chicken curry, and my boyfriend gets the lamb curry. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food! It's the perfect blend of spices. You get a good portion too. I always have enough leftover for lunch the next day. The prices are good - for two curries and a naan it came to about 35 after tip. I love the TV that plays bollywood videos. It's very distracting, but it gives the place ambience.

Revisited our favorite Indian restaurant last night, and I just had to try something new: the Vegetable Jalfrezi. It was perfect: delicious sauce with fresh, flavorful vegetables, and the perfect amount of heat. The food here is amazing, the wait staff are friendly, attentive, and helpful, and the location is incredible.

YESSSSS This might be a little over the top but I really dig this place. Indian food is my jam, if I had to eat one kind of food for the rest of my life it would be Indian. Having said that.. the mataar paneer is amazing and the naan is the perfect soft and crunch. Pretty much anything you order will be great and very authentic. I need this now!

This restaurant is the best Indian food ever. We got the Lamb Vindaloo, the Lamb Shahi Korma, appetizer sampler, and garlic nan. The lamb was by far the most tender lamb we have had in an Indian restaurant in Boston. The appetizer sampler was indeed all fried, but filled with perfectly cooked bites. Even the rice was fragrant and flavorful. The best part of the evening by far was the garlic nan. It was more thick and moist than other nan I have had. The flavor was more garlicy than any other nan I have experienced as well as a few other tasty spices. By far the best experience i have had in an Indian restaurant in my life.

I really reaaally don't like Indian food. It is probably last on my list considering all the wonderful cuisines Boston has to offer. This is very unfortunate for the bf, who loves nothing more than a meal of chicken masala, saag paneer, and naan. On that note, I enjoy eating here. In fact, it's the only place I'll eat Indian food within a 10 mile radius after less than mediocre experiences at Gourmet India, Rani's, and the like. Punjab Palace is small and cozy, has nice ambiance (esp by the window), good service, hot and flavorful food, and I even like the very fairly priced mango lassi (gasp!).

Superb. My palate was completely satisfied after leaving here. I had something with lamb, b/c I never get lamb meat other areas and it's tasty as all get out... my friend had the same dish with chicken. Both of us gobbled it up! I will say that I think their dishes are slightly on the spicy side. We both ordered our dishes "Medium" and if they had been any hotter I think I would have been uncomfortable with the amount of KICK. As it was, it was a little more than I was expecting, but not more than I could handle. There are interesting music videos or moves playing on the TVs, so it gives you something to watch/discuss as well. Very good, totally coming back here for lunch again.

I've never eaten in, but I have gotten take-out several times. As far as Indian food goes this place is yummy! wow, delicious. everything has such a robust and different taste, and most of the food is authentic and hard to find throughout other Indian restaurants in Boston. I think the staff could be a bit more personal, but then again they are all about running their business. Wide variety menu with more than enough for even the pickiest eaters. I can't wait to go there next week for dinner! Keep up the good work.

We've never actually eaten in the restaurant but Punjab Palace has proved to be a solid place to order delivery from. We usually get chicken tikka masala, samosas, and naan and have always been satisfied with our meal. My only gripe is that the aloo naan is usually a big soggy by the time it arrives at our door.

Man, I love this place. It was new last summer, I think....had just opened...and we stopped by to check it out. I'm on this crazy restrictive diet for medical reasons and Indian food happens to have a lot of options for me (no sugar, no flour, no gluten, and often no dairy). Anyway: rave reviews on all fronts. The food is amazing and the customer service is even better (if possible). I can ask those guys ANYTHING about what is in the food and they don't bat an eye, unlike some other places I go where they either look annoyed or dumbfounded. On my very first visit there the manager himself went and got the packaging for their papadum to make sure the ingredients were okay for me and showed it to me personally. SO accommodating and they continue to be every time I come in. The prices, unfortunately, just went up a bit, but I'm still willing to pay. I LOVE the onion bhaji appetizer--sooooooo good! As well, I love that they have a Chicken Tikka Saag--I like white meat only (I know, I'm soooo picky!) and most Indian places don't have it with the saag or are unwilling to trade. The only thing that I have to say that's negative is their papadum is overpriced...I know how much a package of 15 or so of those things costs in an Indian food grocery store and it's just silly charging so much for them. Oh, okay, one more thing---parking can be a bit of a pain in the arse. No lot, and on street can be hard to find. Anyhoo---please go---it's such a pleasant experience.

Spiceless dinner complete with dry meat and bland rice - Just because this resturant is slightly more expensive than the competing college budget resturants does not mean this resturant is better - obviously the other raters are confusing price with taste. In defense of Punjab Palace my water glass was kept full and the food came quickly - perhaps too quickly - as the waiter seemed overeager to have us leave (although there were many empty tables and still others being served). --- Bottom line: Go somewhere else if you want a decent Indian meal!

  • Laura A.

yum! we've been trying almost every indian place that delivers to us on foodler, and i was psyched to see the good reviews. i *almost* went for the chili paneer (i think i'll try that next time) -- it sounds delicious -- but i went for my usual standby, aloo chole. i requested for it to be hot and it really was. it was super tasty. my boyfriend ordered lamb vindaloo and he said it was very different from what he was expecting. "it had a good smoky, spicy flavor but it had no tanginess, which is what i normally like and expect in a vindaloo." he requested for it to be hot and it wasn't really. the only thing about this place that i didn't dig was instead of paying a delivery fee (they deliver through night owl on foodler), the prices of everything were jacked up a few bucks. it pained me to pay almost $3 for a freaking diet coke. so, next time i'll actually haul my lazy ass to allston to try this place in person!

I went here for the first time last night. The atmosphere was nice inside, and I especially enjoyed the Indian music videos playing on the tv (despite it's randomness). The waitstaff was courteous and attentive. I thought the food was good, but nothing astounding (perhaps my expectations were a bit high). It was pretty similar to a lot of the Indian places that I have eaten at before. The prices were reasonable and pretty much what I would expect out of this type of place. All in all it was an enjoyable dinner, and I would consider going back here again.

Inspired by Amanda H's ROTD for this place, I decided to add one more review to my belt. First of all the food here is really good, and it is cheap. According to yelper Lys W, this is the place to get Indian take out food in the Allston/Brighton area. And remembering her word's when I passed by this place, went in and ordered a Chicken Biryani. It did not blow me away, but I am Indian and I have high expectations when it comes to Indian food. Ordered the usual Naan, curry combo the next time which was spicy like I requested. The Kheema Naan was awesome, with spicy minced lamb inbetween the naan, it added a flavor of its own. They guy was nice enough to point out the items that were already spicy when I asked for extra spicy. However they messed up with the appetizer, by giving the non-vegetarian platter instead of the vegetarian platter that was ordered.

My new favorite indian restaurant in boston. I've been there 4 times already and everything I've tasted has been great. The naan is fabulous, chicken tikka masala had a really tasty sauce with a hefty portion of fresh, white meat chicken...and nothing else i've eaten here has disappointed either. The prices are very reasonable (especially given portion size) the decor is nice and the service has always been great. It's a new restaurant, and so they really seem to put in a strong effort to be friendly and give excellent service. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Punjab Palace has very solid, above average Indian food at good bang-for-the-buck portions and prices (dinner entrees are ~$11). They can definitely ratchet up the spiciness if you swing that way, and service is attentive and fast. Oooh and the chicken tikka masala is yumsicles. Try it.

  • Stacey A.

They serve beer and wine now!!! And lots of it. A long, interesting beer list with unbeatable prices and lots of Indian options. And oh yeah, the food is great. I'd never had Indian food before but I will be back often. I had chicken paneer and it was just lovely. My boyfriend had the shrimp vindaloo, which I thought was too fishy, but the sauce was excellent. Loved it!

  • Jess C.

My second favorite Indian in Allston. Their naan, the garlic in particular, is the best I've ever had. Entrees range from good to great. Service in the restaurant and by delivery is always very good, often amazing.

Punjab Palace is approximately a 3 minute walk from my apartment and it's some of the best Indian food I've had (aside from my best friend's mom's home cooking...mmmmm!). The service is always very friendly and prompt, and the food is fresh and tasty. Tikka Masala is the best! Also love their saag paneer. The one thing I didn't enjoy was the shrimp curry - the shrimp was tough and the sauce was incredibly fishy. Other than that, Punjab is always my first stop when I want something flavorful, inexpensive, and filling.

I've passed by this place many of times and finally decided to go in one day... The inside was a lot smaller than it looks outside but overall very inviting and a nice spot to people watch the pedestrians of Allston Rock City. This was actually my first time trying an Indian restaurant so here are my two cents... I started with the vegetable samosas, then chicken tikka masala and also the tandoori chicken. The vegetable samosas were very good. I've actually these before at a friend's house and thought that these were amazing. These were good in like a standard sort of way but I didn't get the overall exclamation point sort of response like the first time I had them. The Chicken Tikka Masala was very delicious. It came with a good helping with rice on the side (although I ate with the nan bread that came with the tandoori). The chicken in this was nice and tender and cooked just right. The Tandoori Chicken was the dish I felt that was on the iffy side. The meat was overcooked and didn't have any flavor. Essentially it tasted like a piece of chicken but red colored on the outside. I was very disappointed by this as I don't know what it's supposed to taste like but thought it was going to be better since it was one of their specialty dishes. It was kind of dry and came with an assortment of vegetables on a hotplate. The wait staff were very friendly and were able to answer some of my questions about the menu items. I didn't get dessert because I was so stuffed from all the food we ate. The bill came out to be a little over $30 for two people so not too bad. Overall, Indian food is not really my style... it was too many flavors for me to handle at once. I don't think I'll get it again anytime soon but maybe in a few months or so...

My fiance and I LOVE Punjab Palace! The food is great and the staff is so incredibly friendly! My only gripe is that their prices went up a little since last fall. Don't get me wrong, it's still inexpensive, but they're not the dirt cheap prices they used to be! I've only had the vegetarian food here and I've loved everything I've had except the malai kofta, which wasn't terrible, but i also wasn't that impressed with it. Everything else, from the food to the service has always been great.

My fiance and I have been lunching here almost every weekend for the past few years, and have never been disappointed. My personal favorite is the chicken tikka masala (medium), and his is the chicken vindaloo (extra spicy--he's nuts). We usually order plain or onion naan (both delicious) and end up having enough leftovers for lunch the next day--basically we get to eat two meals a piece for under $20. (Also delicious, if you're looking for a good appetizer, is the vegetable pakora.) The staff is attentive and the manager is super friendly. Hands down, this is my favorite restaurant in Allston.

  • Arnaz M.

I'm not sure why this place has such a high rating, but it left much to be desired. The level of spice is good but the dishes themselves were sub-par. The chicken tikka saag and shahi paneer were average or below average. They also failed the ultimate test for any Indian restaurant - the venerable Gulab Jamun. It was BAD (of course I still finished it, after all its sugar). There are definitely some things to like about the place - The service is excellent and the wait staff is friendly. Its also not the usual decor that most Indian restaurants have. I guess they just need to fix the food. Sounds easy enough.

I went to Punjab Palace a couple of days ago to get some take-out. I really like Punjabi Dhaba in Somerville, but hadn't been able to get some really tasty indian food in the allston/brighton area that matched Punjabi Dhaba's qualities. I ordered vegetable samosas, a garlic naan, and the chili chicken, spicy. It took about 10 minutes to prepare the order, and the staff was quite friendly in my interaction with them. The samosas came with tamarind and onion chutneys, which was nice for take-out, and I got three of them, which easily justified the price, which I think was $3 or so. They were tasty and authentic, not too oily. Delicious, really. The naan was also wonderfully garlicky, and perfectly cooked. The chili chicken was legitimately spicy which was nice. On a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 means nose-bleeding, eyes-watering, sweat dripping of your face, I'd rate this about a 6 on the spicy scale, which is about as hot as I like it before the heat detracts from the flavor. On the flavor note, the chicken was tender and moist, and well-marinated, and the accompanying peppers and onions were nicely matched with the cumin, tomato, and hot pepper flavors of the sauce. Also of note, the basmati rice was well-prepared and had a good saffron content compared to what I usually see. Overall, a delicious dining experience. I have to try a couple different dishes to fully compare it to other places, and I'd like to sit down and experience the service, but overall, I think I found an acceptable local place for North Indian takeout :)

  • Mary M.

This place has all the standard northern Indian stuff, but much better executed than anywhere else I've been to lately, and also a bit less expensive. I went with two friends and we had pretty standard stuff -- onion pakoras, veg samosas, lamb masala, chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, a bunch of different breads. Aside from being enough food for the Russian army, it was all very fresh, and with herbs and spices seeming fresher and more aromatic than what you usually get. The breads were right on -- came out kind of staggered, my paratha with the entrees, an order of keema naan a minute later and an order of keema paratha shortly after that, so they're clearly being made to order and were wonderfully fresh and tasty. All in all, this was a really delicious meal with friendly waiters and excellent service. We specified medium for the spiciness level of everything, which I thought was fine but my two friends seemed to think was pretty hot ("It's hurting me" one said), so I'm guessing it's hotter than the typical northern Indian place. Adjust your spiciness requests accordingly. The interior of the restaurant is quite nice, but the patrons are casual and the tables are about as close together as is typical in Allston (meaning you're not on top of your neighbors, but you don't have quite the amount of room you might like if you want to stare into someone's eyes and get goopy). There's a flatscreen on the wall playing Indian music vids, which are all over the map. If you're not looking at the screen, the effect is like the fairly typical popular music soundtrack that you hear in a lot of Boston-area Indian restaurants, and the volume level doesn't impede conversation.

i've walked by punjab palace a huge number of times, mostly on my way to carlos down the street. last night a group of friends and i decided to stop in and check it out. the big screen tv playing indian music videos kind of threw me off a bit, but it was hard to look away from, kind of like a car wreck. the waiters were great, very attentive, filling up our water glasses everytime we took a sip (the place was not very crowded on a sunday night). i started with a samosa which was identical to veggie samosas i've had at other indian food restaurants - delicious potato and pea medly covered in a fried pastry shell. when we ordered our main dishes we were asked what level of spiciness we preferred. i said medium. i like medium spicy. not too spicy, but with a kick. well, this had a lot of kick. i still enjoyed my chicken tikka masala, but had to mix it with lots of rice and mop up the sauce with naan so my mouth wasn't on fire. i guess i just happen to like my tikka masala with a little less spice - still delicious though. The naan was great (is naan ever not great?), i ordered plain and some friends ordered garlic, which was also good. when i left i was stuffed and i didn't even eat all of my food - i took half of my tikka masala home and half of my naan - lunch today! all in all the food was great, the service was good, and decor was nice, and the music videos gave you something to talk about.

This place is excellent and they understand what it means when you ask for your food to be 'extra spicy'. The bhel poori was great as was their namkeen/salt lassi. I also liked the tandoori paneer which I believe is something not offered at many restaurants. The service is great and modern design makes the place more comfortable as well. I would much rather come here than Rangoli which is a couple doors down. The parking is a little difficult.

Parking can be difficult to come by in this part of Allston, but Punjab Palace is worth the trip. It's kind of like Rani in Brookline (at a slightly lower price point). The food is pretty yummy and decently priced. The extensive menu made it hard to decide on what to get.... Excellent mango lassis and chicken tikka masala, so they've got the basics nailed. The trio of condiments also tasted fresh and bright. But I think the highlight of our meal was the Indian music videos playing on the large flat screen--highly entertaining. The service was polite and food came out fast. The waiter collecting our dishes was a little clumsy though...A dirty flying fork landed in my lap, but he apologized. Also, the place is pretty small. I would say there were less than 10 tables. We got Andes Mints with our check, so that was a nice touch. I'm going to try and save room for the kulfi next time...

Punjab Palace is the new Allston-area restaurant opened by the owners of India Quality, the best Indian restaurant in Boston. Punjab Palace has the same deliciousness and unparalleled service, but with a slightly different feel: the curvy angles of the front desk and the big screen tv (playing Bollywood, of course) bring an element of chic that complements the traditional tones. Basically, this place is great. I'm so happy for these guys - IQ was my regular lunch place back at BU, and now that I'm a professional living in Allston, I know exactly where I'll be taking my friends for yummy local eats.

Stopped here for an early dinner tonight and was pleasantly surprised. Near where Harvard Ave meets Brighton, awash in a sea of obnoxious college student sports bars, Punjab Palace stands out as an excellent, affordable source of Indian food. I had my usual lamb vindaloo ($11), which was very good (relatively mild spiciness as far as vindaloo goes). My dining partner describes his vegetable jalfreezi "above-average and zesty" (under $10). Everything was clearly fresh and well-prepared. The ambiance was pretty enjoyable -- a big screen TV showing Indian music videos adds charm to what is overall a tastefully-decorated, intimate space. Friendly owner and waitstaff. The restaurant is still working on getting a liquor license.

went for lunch, good price 6.75 can't beat! Good amount of food too. Authentic generally means spicy spicy and that is true here- mild is what you would find else where as a medium- but the flavors were quite nice even with the heat

i never liked indian food until now and it's because i never had good indian food until i ate punjab palace. i don't know much about indian food except i like this place a lot and it's so cheap! cheaper compared to other places (i've been told). service is excellent and they play Aishwarya Rai's video all the time.

indian food delivered! so excellent! they have chicken coconut korma, which i've been having a hard time finding here (it's more popular in the UK where people like less spicy Indian food) the paneer naan is also great. fyi, i think the delivery is through nightowl--i ordered from them off foodler's site.

Oof, after eating there, I am stuffed and about to enter a food coma. The food is great, and the service is fast. Also, something that made me happy was that the combination thali barely cost more than the other dishes. The one really nice thing for the moment is that no one else seems to realize this restaurant exists. As a result, you're practically guaranteed a table.

Decent little Indian joint. Not the best I've ever had, but I wanted to write this review to give credit to the service. I went with a bud while we were hankering for some Indian after a tour at the MFA. We went pretty darn late, but the guy who was closing up was more than gracious, he was friendly. He really went above and beyond to give us a comfortable meal, and didn't pressure us to leave even though we were the last ones there and they were closing up. Definitely will be returning. Aloo Ghobi was alright, but I'll be ordering the Malai kofta on my return, I think.

Excellent Indian food right in the neighborhood. The staff are amazing...Very friendly. have eaten in once and have had delivery a few times. I like spice, and their vindaloo(lamb/chicken) was phenomenal. Very hot, and they will kick it up for you if you ask. Appetizer selection was great and the samosas are tasty. I like the atmosphere better at Ranni in Brookline, but the food is better here. The only thing that could make this place better is if they would deliver me some TAJ beer when I order in!

Since Punjab Palace is owned by the same folks as India Quality which suffers from quality inconsistency, I wanted to hold off for a while before blessing this sister restaurant. The verdict is in - it's great! And you can expect the same quality food every time you go. We go a lot. Anyhoo, standouts include aloo chole which you should order with bhatura, a tasty fried bread. Pay no attention to Indian friends who try to convince you that the bhatura dough is kneaded under the Punjabi chefs' armpits - ain't so. Non-meat dishes in general are good, especially shahi paneer. Garlic naan is excellent too. No beer or wine available. Oh, and the endless Bollywood visual assault, over time I've tuned it out but I love the alternating looks of horror and discovery on other diners faces.

So, normally, I go a wide variety of vegetarian dishes at Indian restaurants because I'm bored to death with the meat selection at most joints. Sure, there are things besides chicken tikka masala and lamb korma, but they usually end up being funky tasting and just not too good. But today, Punjab Palace really set itself apart by serving me the most delicious meal I've had in Boston so far: Chicken Madras, Keema Naan and some Raita. The taste perfect, chicken was moist, the naan was fluffy and filled with delicious pieces of lamb. Plus, what these guys do what others don't do is that they care about the customer. They followed each extra direction I gave, such as onions and green chutney on the side.

i love this place! it's super tasty and reasonably priced. the staff if pleasant and helpful, and they always take my 'no cilantro' request to heart!

I really like this place. I hate that is isn't the cheapest (about $13-14 for a vegetarian dish) but most indian restaurants in Boston are comparably priced. The food here is excellent and the service is great. I love the atmosphere and the bollywood videos playing in the background. I recommend the aloo gobhi (potatoes and cauliflower) and the aloo naan.

I'm giving 2 stars because my boyfriend grew up on chapati and liked theirs a lot, but our experience was terrible! The delivery guy accidentally took our food that we were picking up. Not a problem, we paid for it and asked for it to be delivered. They didn't suggest this or apologize. Then the food didn't show up, so I called them and was basically told they were to busy to call the driver, no apology again. This was not ok so we ordered from Rangoli and went to get our money back. While on the way they called us and said our food was there and we could now have it delivered or pick it up (an hour and a half after I ordered it). No thanks we wanted our money back. That took some convincing also not ok they screwed up. The delivery guy was super nice and apologized so we got the food for free, but seriously whats wrong with the rest of the staff? The food was cold and super greasy, it tasted like bad chinese takeout. Treat me crappy and give me good food and I'll come back (Diva) treat me like crap and give me crappy food, no way. Sorry I cheated on you Rangoli, I've learned my lesson.

Better than Indian Dhaba down the street. Punjab is the best Indian on Brighton Ave. but it's nothing spectacular. Good prices, good quaint atmosphere.

This is great Indian food at it's best. I've been looking for a great Indian restaurant and I'm glad I found one fairly close to work. I ordered their Vegetable Curry with Vegetable Pakoras they were so good, not to mention the mango juice!

Everything here is excellent. Papadum is crispy, and has a nice light pepper spice to it. Naan is off the hookk. Saag paneer is excellent, as is the lamb korma, and the chana masala is amazing. Rice is done well too. Gotta love the bollywood music videos playing on the large flat screen, and the waiters are attentive and recognize me and greet me when I come in (only been there 3 times).

We've been here once and I want to go back so badly that we'll probably go for Valentine's Day dinner. This was the best Indian food I've ever had and the service was excellent. Great atmosphere with the Bollywood music videos. We asked the waiter to serve us all of the most popular dishes in the restaurant. Sorry I don't remember the names! There was this eggplant one though that I am dying for again.

Indian food is one of my favorite things to eat in this entire world, so it seems fitting that this would be the first place I review. I found Punjab Palace on GrubHub at some point last year and it since has become my official go to delivery meal. I can't speak to the actual restaurant itself given that I've never even seen it, so this review is just about the delivery. It always arrives quickly, often times a good thirty minutes before the delivery estimate. I'm pretty sure their delivery guy knows me by name at this point. I stick a pretty standard Indian fare, garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and basmati rice. The chicken tikka masala is always amazing, just the right amount of spice and the chicken is always white meat. The basmati rice is great. Sometimes the garlic naan can be a little doughy on the inside, but if I'm being totally honest I kind of like it that way. There's always more than enough for me to make two complete meals out of one order, so be prepared for leftovers!

Such a great meal on a cold night. The food was perfectly spiced and piping hot, fresh from whatever vehicle they use to cook each dish. The baingan bhartha really stood out. The staff was incredibly attentive and made us feel very welcome. Lots of chai to keep us warm. I will definitely be going back.

Have only eaten here once so far. Everything was good, although I did feel pretty miserable afterwards. I love spicy Indian food, but my guts sometimes disagree. In the end, even though this restaurant is quite good, I will probably not go very often because Ariana nearby is amazing.

I read reviews on here and realize you can't believe anything until you try it. This has been the place for me since 2010. I don't even live near this restaurant, but from the moment i walk in the place is Immaculate! The area is always clean and smells good. The staff is always smiling and wiling to help. The food is tasty and plentiful. There's always some comical Indian music video on the TV that always makes me laugh. My husband and i are thankful to have found this place. We drive from NH just to come here once a month. I honestly encourage 1st timers, long time Indian food enthusiasts and even past reviewers with a bad experience to give this place a chance. My favorite dish, Goat curry and Peshwari Naan with a bottle of their Moscato wine!

The ambiance to this place was very good. The service was good. However, the various dishes ranged from mediocre to bad. The worst part had to be the garlic naan which really tasted and looked like undercooked pizza dough, the worst naan I have ever had. The Saag Paneer was pretty bad, with what I guess was rather low quality cheese and an unpleasant after taste. The other dish, Coconut Goat, tasted good but there was very little meat in it. I do not recommend this place.

I don't pretend to know a heck of a lot about Indian food, I'm way more of a cheeseburger and beer guy, but I need to get out of my comfort zone a bit. So I hit the Punjab Palace. First of all, Allston Village doesn't get the credit it deserves for being an enclave of small ethnic eateries, it's viewed as a place for wannabe hipsters and drunken college idiots, which is a shame. People should maybe reevaluate a bit. But I digress. I went on a Wednesday night, the place was not busy at all, as this is the summer lull for everyplace in Allston. While I try to be brave in eating new things, I'm not a fan of lamb and I wasn't brave enough to try the goat, so I went with the chicken tikki masala. I ordered it medium spicy, which can be dangerous in an Indian place, as their "medium" might not be what I call medium, but it worked for me. Hot, spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. It was very good, chicken was cooked perfectly, sauce was tasty and very flavorful. it came with a side of rice, which was well prepared and had a nice flavor to it, and tempered some of the spiciness of the sauce. My veggie friend was impressed with the menu selection, she picked the spinach and liked it very much. We also ordered the onion nan, which was fresh out of the oven and quite Delicious. You could go there and just get the nan and an appetizer and go home fed, as the portions are pretty generous. The appetizers looked very good, actually, although I'm glad I didn't order one, as the dinner portions were so large that I had to ask for the doggie bag. I always think it's a bit unmanly to ask for the doggie bag, but there it is. I didn't have a drink there, but they do serve beer and wine. The decor is very nice, spotlessly clean, and sort of modern, but with a few Indian touches, including the music videos which were, oddly, playing on a TV in the corner. The place was maybe half full while I was there, but service was fast and very friendly, waiters were very happy to answer questions about the menu. Overall, a good place, I would go back there in a second. So go check out Allston Village. Do it now, before the students come back.

A decent joint, used to be better I think, now gets kinda busy and quality has decreased somewhat. Very servicable if not memorable indian food, I go for the chicken fenugreek with paneer, or the butter chicken. Food is very filling, and best to plan to fall asleep soon after. Kinda of a game ender for most evenings. unfortunately one of the best indian places in boston for the standard americanized north indian cousin --Oh pretty cheap beer menu, they have a chimay for 6 dollars, best deal for chimay in town.

I ordered Chicken Biryani and Chicken curry for ~30 bucks . The quantity was not good enough for the price. I do not expect to have mushrooms and peas in my Biryani, that is not supposed to be how biryani is made. Chicken curry had patches of chilli powder in there burning my mouth. Not going there again. [EDIT] Went there again, ordered chicken tikka masala, liked it!

I usually order for delivery (quite often). Food is delicious. The yellow dal (dal tarka) is my favorite - can't go wrong with this one. Chicken methiwala and Chicken Chana Masala are really good as well - Unique dishes that you should try. Delivery is quick. Great restaurant.

Can I give you guys 10 stars? Well, I am doing just that. Take the 5 and x by 2. First, I have been eating at Punjab Palace and ordering take out for the past couple of years and eating at India Quality in Kenmore Sq for 20 (gulp) years. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever had bad meal, bad service or anything to that would cause me to drop one single star. If there was ever a glitch, it was fixed pronto. Hey it's a restaurant. Things happen. But this review is exactly why I am writing tonight. How Punjab Palace and Pammi went ABOVE AND BEYOND what most high end restaurants would ever do. We ordered takeout on Friday night, during a busy time. Even while I could hear the commotion and how busy it was in the background, Pammi, who took my order, was calm and gracious, as always. Food came under an hour, as promised and was hot and delicious. But, as we were taking items out of the bag, we noticed that we were missing a few things, one extra bread, extra rice, extra poppadoms. One entree was missing and one had something in it that shouldn't have been. I knew trying to call at 8 pm would be crazy so I waited until the next afternoon. I was more upset with myself for ordering on a busy Friday night at restaurant rush hour. I called and got Pammi again, explained what happened and told him "I'm not at all upset, just wanted you to know as you always stress your customers to be honest if a mistake happens". Poor Pammi. He was beside himself. He said "yes, I took your order and I this never should have happened. I am so very sorry". I told him again, "no worries. I love both your restaurants. I will never stop eating or ordering from them". He told me to please hold on and came back a few minutes later and said "I have credited your card for almost the entire amount. Thank you for taking the time to call and let us know.". I said "wait, no, that's not necessary. It wasn't that big of a deal. I appreciate a credit for the items that we didn't get, but you don't need to take off anything additional." He would not hear of it and thanked me again and said "we appreciate customers like you who tell us if we make an error instead of not coming back or writing a bad review. Thank you for your kindness". Honestly, I almost wept as that was one of the kindest things I have ever heard out of the mouth of a restaurant employee or a person in general for that matter! BRAVO Punjab Palace, India Quality and Pammi. You are still my Gold Standard!!

I've had both takeout and dine in at Punjab Palace and I was quite pleased. When we dined in, the BF and I went around lunchtime and we were the only ones there. I ordered saag paneer and he ordered chicken tikka masala. These are both staples and we've found they are pretty hard to screw up, but they were delicious nonetheless. I know it isn't anything special, but their basmati rice is great. Right texture & they give you a heck of a lot. We also ordered garlic naan and it was meh (basically the reason why I'm deducting a star) but not enough to deter me from eating there. Bonus: they play bollywood music videos on a mounted tv. It was awesome.

Punjab palace's food might be ordinary but the service is awful. I ordered a takeout with just 3 items and it took more than an hour. All the while the manager was assuring us that the order will be there in 2 mins, but it never came! The worst part though was that the manager kept lying to us instead of giving us a reasonable estimate and when we got impatient after an hour, he said the bread basket I taking time so he will cancel it to get rid of us. Who can eat indian curry without bread? I have seen busy restaurants but there is a way to keep customer satisfaction and the minimum you can do is be courteous to the customer and Not lie. Irrespective of how the food is, the experience has left a bitter feeling.

With an hour to eat in cold, dank Boston, Punjab Palace was the best decision ever. Right off the Green line, the welcoming spot brought out our food quickly and most importantly-- it was all AMAZING. sure, chieken tikka masala isn't the most authentic thing, but as long as it's AMAZING tasting, I don't mind. The chai is nice too. OOH and the little chopped onions mixed with the sweet brown sauce is super tasty. Mix it in with your entre. I may or may not have used the entire little bowl...

I'm extremely on the fence about this place. It had its good and bad so I think I'll break down my experience into categories. DECOR: I really liked the warm ambiance of this place. I also enjoyed the Bollywood videos they had on the TV, haha. I thought this place looked very classy. Me likey. FOOD: I'm going to be nice and give the food a solid B. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala with naan. It really didn't tickle my fancy. I've had way better chicken tikka masala at other places. The portions were decent though. SERVICE: Great service. Our waiter was extremely attentive and sweet. He even explained a couple of the dishes to us. PRICE: For the quality of the food, I'm going to say that the price is a little higher than I would have liked. But definitely not outrageous considering they don't skimp out at all. But you can definitely go to other places for cheaper and frankly, better Indian food. So I guess at the end of the day, I'm going to lean towards nay rather than yay. I'd be willing to come back here, but I'll probably try another dish.

Isn't it wonderful to see a Punjab restaurant after I volunteering in Punjab for a month? Immediately I stepped in, I felt like I went back to India again. Plus, their waiters are even more courteous and good-looking :P I also like the silverware they contain the sauces, which is really beautiful, and the green sauce is always my favorite. They have so many choices of lamb dishes which really satisfy me as a lamb fan. I think I tried Lamb Vindaloo since I love spicy food, Combined with the signature Poori, I really had a great time their. Of course, you can't miss the samosa and lassi, these are the things that makes Indian cuisine even more incredible!

This place is amazing. Naan with coconut is to die for, coconut korma is fantastic, great flavors and cooked wonderfully. Of all the Indian places I've been to this is probably my favorite. Also, every time I've gone there has been a group celebrating a special occasion, so you gotta know it's good!

I love this restaurant. Indian cuisine has such great vegetarian options that almost makes you forget about meat. Eating in, the waiters were always very nice, my glass was never empty and they have bollywood mvs on TV. I have tried: Samosas: Three perfectly crispy boxes of fried goodness Saag Tikki: A litle dry but very yummy Chicken tikki Masala: Good standard and popular Indian dish. Chicken Coconut Korma: It was alright Saag Paneer: It was oily but full of flavor Malai Kofta: best dish in my opinion Garlic Naan: Very fluffy and you can taste the garlic gulab jamon: Sweet but very sticky Overall: This is a very good restaurant and with fast delivery, I would order here almost everyday if I had the money. Also prices are cheaper at lunch and youll will probably be really full afterwards.

Punjab Palace serves very nice curries in a clean environment. Medium was asked for both curries and I'd say they were on the hotter side. I really like spice too. Poori was also nice. I'd be happy to return any day that I may find myself in Allston.

Well now, I have been back time and time and time again since my prior review. Alas the quality is most certainly slipping. My last visit was with work colleagues for lunch and the food was extremely bland with the meat well overcooked (both lamb and chicken). It appeared to me that the meat was just tossed in at the very last minute and didn't have flavour like in the past and was somewhat dry and firm instead of the usual tender and moist. Unfortunately I hold you to your outstanding historic levels of quality and you are falling far short. It will be a while before I return and hopefully the quality returns soon. Overall, I'll be skipping, it's not horrible but just not as good. For most this is sufficient and worth a trip, not for me though. Dare I say it... Trader Joes frozen entrees have more flavour and taste...

I'm a little awed by some of the reviews I'm reading about this restaurant. "Amazing"? "The best"? "Spicy"? I didn't experience any of these things on my order. The Chicken Tikka Masala was unspicy (despite ordering it spicy) and was WAY too creamy, and the appetizer I ordered was bland and uninteresting. The dipping sauce tasted like watered-down BBQ sauce. I did appreciate the chutney they provided with the meal, but I was not wowed in any respect. Now, this makes me wonder: did I catch them on an off night? Do I not know what Indian food really tastes like? Do OTHER people not know what Indian food really tastes like? What if everything I think I know about food is wrong? What if I've not TRULY been eating delicious food for years, and this was actually the first time it's passed my lips? I think I'll continue ordering from Curry House and India Quality, if only to avoid any more existential crises.

Nothing special. I only had delivery, so who knows if it is better in person. I had the chicken tikka massala, and it was really bland. It literally tasted like tomato soup from the can. Kinda bazaar.

My favorite Indian (so far) in the Boston area! Haven't had a bad dish yet. Veggy samosas are yummy and lamb korma is almost perfect. I like to ask for it medium-hot because a little sweating while you eat is only natural! As for waiter service, they are very helpful, attentive and quick - which is hard to find at most local Indian joints.

  • Christopher C.

This is one of the best places I've eaten in Boston. Indian food is a mainstay of my diet, and I've eaten it everywhere I've lived or traveled to, including India. This is excellent stuff. Definitely try the Chicken Tikka Masala. Also, the guys who work here are very friendly. If you order delivery, it will come quickly, and the person who delivers it to you will inevitably be very friendly and apologetic for making you wait all of twenty minutes for a full meal.

  • Laurynn S.

Wonderful. I always get the Malai Kofta and it's fantastic with rice as well as nan. Their Pashwari Nan is super good! Can be a bit of a wait during dinner times as they don't have many tables, but seems like a lot of people do take out. Haven't tried it but soon will as it's fantastic!

Fantastic food. Probably the best Indian I have found in Boston (and I have been to quite a few Indian places here). They will make it spicy, if you ask them, even if you're a white guy like me (trust me, most places I have to ask them specifically "please make it Indian spicy, not Boston spicy", and even then, unless I go with Indian friends, they will not make it spicy for me). Excellent service, I also loved the Bollywood movies they have playing on the TV they have on the wall.

Nothing about Punjab Palace disappointed, but it lacked the 'wow" factor of The Kebob Factory in Inman Sq, still my favorite Indian restaurant in Boston. The Coconut Soup was delicious and sweet, reminded me a lot of Chinese taro soup with tapioca pearls. The Pashwari Naan (with coconut, raisins and honey) was absolutely amazing. Hot, crisp and sweet. I got my Chicken Tikka Masala as spicy as possible and it arrived a shade of red not found in nature. It had a bit of a kick at the beginning but then lost its spiciness. Either they didn't believe me when I said I could handle spice--the waiter did raise an eyebrow and regard me skeptically--or this is as spicy as it gets. I was slightly disappointed. The chicken was okay, not the most tender I've had and the sauce lacked flavor. The boyfriend's Coconut Korma was more satisfying, though it had zero spice. It just felt more filling. Oh, and the Lassi Sweet was interesting. Tasted kind of like yogurt. Get it if you like that kind of flavor. If I'm in the area and feel like Indian, I'd probably give this place another try and order more exotic items, but otherwise, I don't think I'd make the trek over.

GREAT INDIAN FOOD! I ordered Chicken tikka Masala (I know, boring.. but I love it, so sue me?) last night for dinner.. and it was AMAZINGLY good. Perfectly spicy and the chicken was excellent and tender.. I wish there was more of it! The rice was cooked well, too. And, there was plenty of food. I think two people could have easily shared this entree with an app or something.. talk about a cheap dinner! The best part about the whole experience was the delivery service. It was SO quick! They told me 30-45 minutes on the phone and showed up in 30. Was really impressed and very happy with the overall experience. Definitely going to try dining there next time.

Love it. Miss it. There at least five Indian food restaurants in my new neigborhood and not one compares to this one in Allston of all place. Best way to order is to get a dish per person and share. Our order (every time): - Vegetable samosas - these and the onion bhaji (fritters) are my favorite appetizer - Chicken tikka masala - your staple chicken in tomato-based sauce. Theirs is thicker and way better than your average. As to the bright red color and the comment by the person who wrote that the color of the food was "not appropriate," it clearly is due to the seasoning they use, probably a red tandoori. - Navratan korma - best veggie dish. Broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, peppers, almonds, raisins, and paneer in a creamy sauce. - Baingan bharta - theirs has peas and green peppers in it, which give it texture. It is also less smokey than most places, which I like. - Lamb saag - Plain naan - Mango lassi They always ask how you like each of your dishes. "Medium" to "spicy" is the way to go.

I've been here twice and by far it is my favorite Indian restaurant. The place seats about 50 people and there's never a wait the times I've come. They always have Indian music videos on which is fun to watch and the wait staff is really nice. I love the garlic naan and vindaloo here. If you love spicy food like I do, VINDALOO anything! It is soooooo addictive! I got the eggplant from one of the reviews and I really wouldn't suggest it unless you're a baller. I thought that was the one dish I could have done without for the price they were charging. Portions are small and I would recommend coming with a few people and doing family style so you can try more things. Again, if you love spicy food, VINDALOO IT and you'll come back for more.

Punjab Palace is still one of my favorite Indian places in the city. I feel like their food is made with love. Haven't been into the restaurant in awhile, but I'm pretty regular with the delivery (via Foodler). I usually go for the veggie samosas, lamb coconut korma, and palak paneer (in the same fam as saag paneer). FYI - Lunch is about $5 cheaper than their dinner options if you're on a budget.

Was looking for something new for take-out in the area. Not knowing anything about Indian food I decided to be adventurous. The food is good, and priced well for take-out but my only complaints are with consistency. I love spicy food, the hotter the better. Some nights the curry is spicy, other nights not so much. The chicken masala is really good.

I went with a friend to grab dinner here. I had gotten there fifteen minutes earlier than my friend, and was immediately seated and shown the drink/food menu. First thing I noted, beers were CHEAP! I'm always surprised by this every time I go to any allston establishment. I ordered an indian beer that was $6.50 for a 22 oz bottle. But, the real focus here is the food. We ordered paneer naan, samosas, the lamb vindaloo, and the Baingan Bhartha. I was nervous about the heat level, so we ordered medium heat. I've eaten lamb vindaloo at other restaurants where I could not handle the hottest one, but to my surprise the medium wasn't as spicy as I wanted. The waiters came over asked if I liked how spicy it was, and after telling them I was expecting it to be spicier they offered up to switch out the dish (which was half eaten already) for the hotter one. So I must say the service was excellent, and the food was awesome. I definitely would get the Baingan Bhartha, an eggplant dish, again. The samosas were crispy on the outside and had a delicious filling of potatoes and peas. Overall, the meal, service, and environment was a great experience!

I am so excited to have found a great neighborhood spot. The Lamb Bahar was delicious and came with enough food for two meals. The chutneys are also fantastic. The only drawback was the spice level. Even ordering a 'hot' curry tasted barely above most mild curries. Luckily the flavors and tenderness of the lamb made up for it.

  • Dorise G.

Went here with a party of 11. Got 7 entrees, featuring mild to extremely spicy - 2 veggie dishes (spinach and eggplant), 3 chicken dishes, 1 lamb, and 1 goat. We also split 4 appetizers and 3 orders of naan. Some people got lassis, but I ordered a limca, which was a delicious indian soda that tasted like a limier version of fresca - really interesting flavor, came in a cool bottle. It certainly didn't hurt that service was extremely attentive, with constant refills on water and the Indian crackers. All of this for a total of $17/person after tip. Would definitely come back here with a large group interested in family style, or just with one or two friends who appreciate good Indian food!

I've eaten a lot of indian food in this city - and this one ranks way up there for goodness! Menu is HUGE which i love - the waitstaff was super nice and helpful as well. Drink menu is good. We ordered the Chicken Curry, Chicken Tikka Marsala and Chicken Jalfrezi ( first time ordering this and loved it!) and garlic naan which i'm now dreaming about. Overall - i can't wait to go back.

It's one of my first few times eating Indian food and I'm glad Yelp steered me to Punjab Palace. Subsequently, I came here twice a matter of a few weeks because the food is so good. Chicken Tikki: meh, the chicken was a bit dry, but tasted OK. It was one of the two appetizers that had meat. Probably wouldn't order it again. Chicken Tikki Masala: I wished I hadn't fallen for the hype, I thought it tasted fine, but not the type of curry that I was expecting. It was average in my opinion. Chicken Coconut Forma: tasted great, chicken was tender and the curry was very flavorful and spicy, just like how we liked it. Lamb Saag: excellent dish, the curry was out of this world. We also had the Garlic Naan and Paneer Naan. The Paneer Naan definitely tasted better. I'll probably try the other Naans next time. It comes out piping hot. Dip it in curry and it's heaven! The waitstaff is extremely attentive, our glasses of water were never even near empty. The only downside is the parking situation can be tricky at times.

So was a little excited the first time around. And at 3 more runs at this place, I'm a little more level-headed. I still think it's the best Indian food I've had in Boston, but I'm pretty offended by the prices. $13/dish, really?? I ordered the garlic naan and the garlic was stuffed, the naan was really thick and chewy. I hated it. The bengan bharta is decent, though I ate chunks of ginger and green bell peppers. Punjab! You need to fix that! I knew this place was too good to be true.

No doubt about the service, it's super good there. I must have had my water filled about 5 times tonight. I mean...this place is nice, but it's not the best I've had. I've been to a few Indian places in San Francisco, and they were a lot better...even the Indian place in Super 88 is better for me. For the price/quantity of the Chicken Tikka Masala with a Naan at Punjab Palace, I could have gotten cheaper and tastier at Super 88. Perhaps it's just me...I mean...I'm a weirdo and I also don't like spicy foods. I really like the environment though...very classy looking...it's just too bad I came in wearing a sweat shirt, tights, and uggs--top that off with some lovely bed hair. Oh and the Bollywood videos were HAWT!

A must visit restaurant for Indian food connoisseur. These guys unarguably the best Chciken Tikka Masala in town. The naan breads are soft and fluffy..its joy having them when they are piping hot. Good ambiance, decent service and decent pricing makes this place worth trying. I recommend: Lamb Curry Chciken Tikka Masala Shrimp Curry Paneer Mutter Naan

My favorite Indian restaurant in Boston. Ok so it might be kind of Americanized and it's not really worth making a special trip for but it's WAY better than any other Indian restaurant in the immediate area. And they're nice and don't charge really anything got delivery. Ask for it spicy so that it has more flavor, lots of good meat in the lamb dishes which I like. Pickles only $1.

This is our go to place for Indian food. Although parking can be a real pain in Allston, this place is definitely worth it. We've eaten at the restaurant and gotten take-out. Each time the quality of the food and service was great. The Indian music channel playing on the television on the wall is a nice touch. No complaints here!

Very good! The Saag Paneer was excellent, onion naan so-so. Quick, pleasant waitstaff who was willing to help navigate the menu. Will be back.

I go here pretty regularly and typically get lamb of some sort. What can I say, it's punjabi, it's great, and it's close. The staff is friendly, the lunch specials are killer. $9 for a combo dish of lamb, rice, masala chai, and some appetizers. Dinner is a bit pricier. I wish they had a buffet. Then again, I would eat too much. Their sister (original) restaurant is India Quality, just as good, longtime stalwart of Kenmore Sq. Sometimes we get catering from them.

BHINDI MASALA! MUST HAVE! I have to disagree with the review I read that said that the take out is inconsistent. The food was ready to pick up right at the EXACT time they said it would be (which was perfect since we were on a time crunch) not only was the order compete but we were able to add a mango lassi at the last minute! The food was tasty and ready to go. what more can you ask for?

OH MAN this place is good. Their vindaloo was amazing, and their kheir was the BEES KNEES. I like my food really spicy and this was really spicy, but not that awful lingering in your mouth forever spicy. Plus they give you a ton of meat and rice when you order take-out.

Decent, but not great. Stale behl puri. Generic above average vegetables dishes. All in all, not awful by any means, but not the greatest indian meal either.

The best Indian in Boston is very tasty, but not really anything to write home about. All the classics are done nicely.

I've never had better Indian food! Their delivery is great, everything I've ever ordered is extremely tasty! I highly recommend both the coconut lamb korma and the aloo gobi!

This is the best Indian food I have ever had! My fiance and I had dinner here last weekend and we split the dinner for two (more like dinner for three!). We started off with coconut soup which was absolutely wonderful, then we had samosas, and our main course was the mixed grill. I highly recommend the garlic naan (be forewarned: you will smell of garlic for a solid 8 hours afterwards, but it is worth it!). Mixed grill was great, none of the meat was too dry. Next time I think I will stick with the chicken.. have never really been into lamb. Very clean establishment and really great service. Worth a second visit!

The place continues to serve great food with a smile. I think they know me as "the girl who like onion chutney". They take my order for a small container of onion chutney and when i come in they comment "ahhh you love onion chutney." How can I not? It does with everthing, even on eggs and english muffins. While I stick to my favorites here I have recently tried the chicken mushroom which was very good. Plenty of chicken and mushroom in a flavorful curry sauce. This is not the kind of place that hides the chicken/shrimp in a pile of veggies. All of the naans are great but a new favorite is paneer naan. Cheese stuffed naan is great to cool off your mouth but also so great to use to finish off the sauces on your plate.

Finally! A good Indian restaurant in the Boston area. I've been trying Indian restaurants since I got here only to be disappointed, but alas! In comes Punjab! I first knew of them via a Delivery order. Was feeling hungry, only water in the fridge, too tired for grocery shopping, what to do?! Enter grubhub. I was skeptical. So far I hadn't found a good Indian restaurant by actually showing up to different ones and I was going to find one using Online Delivery??? I wrote in a few extra "directions" and man... did they follow them all. They went above and beyond. Plus the delivery was extremely prompt. And Boom! Awesome Indian fare delivered straight to my door. Now to the food and the actual restaurant: The food here is always delicious goodness. The pieces of chicken are always plentiful and of good quality (not sneaky dark meat cut into cubes like other places, I'm looking at you India Pavilion!). They added raisins to my Tikka Masala which only made it better (if possible) without complains and actually complimented me on the choice. =) The sauce was thick and full of vegetable goodness. I asked for mild and that it was, not too spicy, and not bland at all. Full of flavor. Quite a solid place. Looking forward to many more dinners at this place.

This place is fantastic. I love Indian food and Punjab Palace does it right. Highly recommend the Mixed Platter appetizer. Also, the Naan is great. The Bollywood music videos playing on the TV are a nice touch. I have no doubt this will be a restaurant I frequent.

For those who don't know, this is actually owned by the same people who own India Quality. Both places are just suberb - food, service, decor, price - go here quick!!

Just came here from Sunset and was blown away. After asking what the cashier would choose if he could get ONE menu item, I was pointed to the Chicken Tikka Masala, and was not disappointed. After I ordered take-out, they let me sit down, served me some tea, and had my order ready within ten minutes of pleasant sipping. I got home, mixed it with some rice and tried it, and it was amazing. I've never had such good Indian food. It's really expensive ($14.50 for my one dish), but it's worth it--it'll be my monthly treat from now on.

So delicious! Whether I am dining in or having their great food delivered, the food is always consistently amazing. I usually get the chana masala, lamb vindaloo, and naan but I am sure that any dish you get would have the perfect balance of spice to it. In terms of spiciness, they are always willing to adjust it to your taste.

I recently went to Punjab Palace with some friends. They swore that it is the best place for Indian food in the area. I am not an expert and did not find it to be much more exceptional than other great places in the area - but it was definitely good. The fare seemed pretty standard and was well executed. Service was also polite. If I was in the area again I would go back.

I've seen this restaurant touted as the best Indian in Boston and I definitely think it takes strides to meet that reputation. The service was pleasant, the food came fast and it was hot and tasty. The naan is out of this world, period, as is the coconut soup. We had the sample dinner for 2 and it was enough food for 4, so be warned! Our meal included goat curry which EVERYONE should try, theirs is a flavorful and rich dish! One caviat: We asked for spicy but got mild, and I've heard this from others, so if you really want to feel the burn you might want to be insistent with the waiter.

Coming from Punjab - I must say that hands down this is the best place to have Indian food.. Exceptional service .. Very welcoming - I have been ordering here since over 3 years now. Reasonably priced - delivery is quick and personally I love the dal tadka , dal makhani , chicken methiwala - you should call for the palak paratha (basically a spinach bread) which is pretty awesome too ... The lassi is really good .. What else could you ask for ....

This was absolutely amazing. We went for the first time last night and loved it. We will definitely be back. Great good, great service. We had to have the check split up and they did it without problem- most places give us attitude if we ask for that. I can't wait to go back!

We wanted some Indian food in Boston and of course i began my Yelp search and this happened to dominate the Indian food palates of yelpers. The venue itself isn't astonishing. You could almost pass by it on the street if your not looking for it. Predictable decor, although the food is actually really good. We had some malai kofta, and green bean curry and they were both delicious. Also, the onion garlic naan was good. A little thick for my taste, however, if you break it apart you really do get the best of both worlds. Service is friendly, don't try to ask them for suggestions, they will just look at you funny. We did take home some leftovers to our hotel the next day and they were actually even tastier. Or maybe I was just really hungry. I would've given this place 3 and 1/2 stars to be honest.

The best Indian place in Boston hands down. My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place. Their service is great in the restaurant. And their delivery is quick. Longest I've ever waited for food was 30 minutes, but that's because there was a blizzard outside. The sauces and condiments they make at the restaurant is so good. It's nothing you've ever tasted before. Very interesting. My favorite dish is the Chicken Tikka Masala and Keema Matar. Both theses dishes are so amazing. Can't get enough of it.

"Pun-jab" is what I almost did to the two punks in a beat up Honda Civic that tried to take my parking spot on Brighton Ave while I was about to back in! The aroma entering the door started the saliva glands to start shooting. The restaurant is clean, neat with Bollywood movies playing on a flat screened tv.....pretty cool. I went for lunch and it took me forever to make up my mind as the menu is extensive and it all looks so good. I ordered the Lamb coconut Korma which is boneless pieces of very tender lamb cooked with coconut milk, onion, tomatoes and herbs in a mild spicy sauce. It was excellent and filling. The prices are very reasonable for the quality served. The only downer.............the parking sucks out loud!

It's a crime that I haven't rated these guys yet... I moved here over the summer and since finding this place have eaten here ~once per week. The food is consistently amazing, the staff is really nice and attentive (they know us by now). We've brought the inlaws, you name it, everyone can find something on the menu. My favorite is the chana masala. This place is seriously a treat.

Take-out is delicious--especially the scrumptious texture of the white fish. That alone was worth driving 15 minutes past closer Indian restaurants to get to. Naan was a bit soggy after the drive home.

    (4)
  • Mel G.

Everything I ordered was disappointing. The mango lassi was made with fake over colored mango syrup. The mixed tandoori grill was overcooked and the naan was under cooked and felt gooey. Wil definitely not come back or recommend to others

As a former resident of Kenmore Square, I thought that the idea of an Indian restaurant even competing with India Quality was preposterous. Yet, it was oddly poetic that the restaurant to surpass it was owned by the same person. Punjab Palace has the same incredible food as India Quality, but it surpasses it in the ambiance and delivery options. Much of the menu is actually identical - I ordered my usual go-to items (chana masala and baingan bhartha) and was pleasantly surprised to have it be the same recipe. The only item that I was devastated to not see on the menu was the broccoli naan that I usually order at IQ - yes, I know, it might not be an authentic Indian item, but I love it all the same. PLEASE bring it to PP!!! Another amazing aspect of Punjab Palace was the the facility AND restrooms were immaculately clean (IQ is a bit more dodgy). For the holidays, PP was lit with adorable snowflakes and holiday decorations. It made it feel warm and inviting. The ambiance is also slightly less formal than IQ - there is a tv playing Indian music videos and you don't need to be as nervous about minding your manners. The slightly more casual atmosphere allows you to feel more relaxed. The service is also fantastic - all of the waitstaff is extremely attentive. Don't forget that the delivery option is a huge advantage for PP. Parking can be difficult in the city, so it is great to be able to have it delivered. Thank you Punjab Palace for a great experience! I will definitely be returning here soon.

Punjab Palace is a nice, little (and affordable!) option for great Indian food. Apps from $3-$10 and entrees (curries mostly) in the $10-$15 range. The food is standard Indian fare, done very well. There were no missteps as far as the food. We ordered it hot, and it was quite hot but not so overwhelming that it couldnt be consumed. Nothing too fancy about the interior, but definitely not a take out style indian place either. They had totally amazing Indian music videos on a flat screen tv, but the music wasnt too loud and didnt interrupt our conversation. I was mesmerized by the hypnotic dancing and bright fashions! I think the best thing about Punjab Palace is the beer selection. I dont think Indian joints are usually known for having the biggest selections of beers, as most carry the obligatory Taj Mahal and Kingfisher for Indian beer and then something like miller lite or whatever for the american option. Well Punjab Palace had about 25 bottled beers (no drafts) everything ranging from German Ayinger Hefeweizen to Newcastle to Chimay Blue and a Framboise Lambic. Most priced at $3.50! They were quite busy on saturday night so we had to "flag down" waiters a couple times, but no big deal. The atmosphere was loud and lively and everyone was very nice.

Delicious food and quick delivery service...this is the best Indian food I've had since ive gotten here. The garlic naan is amazing and the chicken channa masala is incredibly tasty. Even the rice alone is good! Also loved the veg samosas...will be ordering again when I am back in town!!!

This is indian food in Boston. This is indian food for people who don't know what indian food is. Maybe I'm used to my little grandma in my hometown restaurant, but people, Pittsburgh Indian food aficionado does not think this is real. Yes, it was good, no, I did not think it was spicy (when I asked it to be) No, I did not think the COLOR of my food was appropriate (why are these curry's florescent?) At home, they all look brownish, darkish, dirtyish? It felt like they cooked my meal in 10 minutes, instead of simmering and letting the flavors meld, it was just kind of mediocre. I ate it, I didn't rave about it, and that saddens me for a 4.5 star average place. yelp.com/biz/taste-of-in… See above to purchase the best indian food in your life. It will cost you a mere $150 dollar flight from BOS-PGH. WHY? I don't know, I am still trying to figure this one out. Apparently there is a little man in Somerville who knows his shit....

The best thing about living right on the outskirts of Allston is all of the amazing food that they have! I've walked past Punjab Palace a bunch of times heading to bars and other restaurants, but never got the chance to stop in. I went with 2 friends today for lunch and the prices are SO reasonable and the food is really good too. We started with the vegetarian platter as an appetizer because we couldn't decide what to get. If you love fried veggies, then you need to order this. It was soooo good and the little red onion salsa stuff that they put on the table is even better. I pretty much put this salsa on everything. If they sold this stuff, I would probably buy 5 jars of it on the spot. For lunch, I had the chicken tikka saag and my two friends ordered the chicken tikka masala. All were so delicious and the portions were large enough to bring home for another meal. We also ordered naan (no brainer there) and it was perfect. I decided that I may have to order food from here once a week. Very decent prices for really good indian food.

Punjab Palace was a really fun place to visit for a recent family outing. My sister and I are both January babies, so we tend to have our birthdays combined. We made a reservation for the two of us, our parents, grandmother and our boyfriends. It's small, so we literally took up about a fourth of the restaurant, but I liked how cozy it was. We ordered several dishes to go around. I really enjoyed the chicken tikka masala and the lamb vindaloo. The vegetarian platter appetizer was also quite good. I was also pleased to see coconut ice cream on the menu for dessert - one of my favorites! When they say their dishes are spicy, believe them. The waitstaff was so friendly and helped us pick out a good variety of dishes. They knew exactly how much food we should order for our party, everyone was satisfied and we didn't have too much left over. I will definitely be back, the location is so convenient and this is as authentic as you can get when it comes to Indian food in the Allston/Brighton area.

I'm not going to claim I know anything about what traditional Indian food should be. However, i'm all over this place like white on rice. It's in a neighborhood that would probably get stereotyped as having a lot of sub-par dives but this is a real diamond in the ruff. favorite item on the menu: the pakora. they look kind of bizarre but they're greasy little appetizers of heaven. I usually end up pointing to things on the menu because I have no idea how to pronounce it. But they have pictures and detailed descriptions of what the things are. fyi - the dinner for two option: waaayy too much food for 2 females. make sure at least one of you is a big hungry man. even with some f-ing delicious Chilean white wine I still wasn't able to put down my half. I should alert you that when I have alcohol I become a bottomless pit.

Order CTM "hot" and have it with a cold Kingfisher. This is arguably the best Chicken tikka masala this side of the Atlantic Ocean. I exclusively and always get CTM when eating at Punjuab Palace. You really don't need anything else. It satisfies a craving like no other. I can't speak to many of the other items other than the Saag paneer which is better than most. The service is always prompt and good and you can always catch great Bollywood music videos on the nearby unassuming TV. If you want to know how good chicken tikka masala can be, Punjab Palace is the place. You will never tire of it.

I'm surprisingly impressed by their food - everything except paneer! We did a big delivery order from here this weekend for my brother's graduation night. I can't speak for their meat dishes, but their vegetarian items were great! We had saag-paneer, paneer makhni, and alu-chana. The saag and chana were very good! We also really liked the paratha, garlic naan and their rice! I really do miss Rangoli next door and can't think of any other replacement for it, but this is good food in its own right...

Their food is great. The restaurant is great. However... When I call in to get delivery it would be nice if I got someone that could speak english. I spent 8 minutes on the phone to order saag paneer and chicken korma. Come on.
