I love this place. Kind people and amazing food. I've ordered several different things and we've been several different times. Everything is amazing and so fresh. Best gumbo and jalapeño poppers I've ever had.

It's very rare to offer 5 stars but Camellia is close. I've never had a bad meal and they are always priced reasonable. Not just good for po-boys but I love their roast beef and hot sausage poboys.

After a recommendation of a friend, we tried this on the way home from New Orleans. Food was subpar at best. The squash and shrimp casserole, which the reviews raved about, tasted like a bottle of file had been dumped in and was slimy and congealed. The raw were fine but the bits of shell from improper shucking, crumbled saltines, and half frozen and congealed cocktail sauce ruined it. The fried shrimp were ok, but the bread pudding was drowned in so much sauce it was hard to discern the true flavor of the bread pudding part. Service was awful, had to beg for refills over and over, and dirty plates were never removed from table. For a $70 meal of so so food for 2 and lazy, uninterested service, I won't be back nor would I ever recommend it.

My favorite place to eat! Haven't had a bad dish yet and the interior is so charming! As for the unhappy people, at least one of them was in the wrong place, that so isn't one of their tables in the photo! LOL One day I had a waitress that was less than dedicated, but anyone can have a bad day.

Camellia was a happy accident, after a couple hours of searching for a good place to have some local food. It was amazing! We were a group of two french and an italian girls, a guatemalan, Colombian and Dutch men, and the verdict was unanimous: Camellia was awesome! Try their seafood platter and be aware: portions are BIG.

My husband and I decided to stop here for dinner. He ordered the seafood platter and I got the seafood pasta. Both came with a side salad, but I wouldn't even call it a salad. The waitress raved about how the dressings were homemade and so good. When the salad came, the bowl was so shallow that it was really just a few pieces of lettuce with some tomatoes & onions....with a HUGE container of really good dressing. His seafood platter was pretty good for fried seafood. He also got a side dish with his, which was the shrimp and squash casserole. This was amazing!! Really good and tasted like it was homemade. My seafood pasta, however, was not. It literally tasted like it was a box mix like hamburger helper that was used to create the pasta dish. Very disappointing. I didn't even want to take the leftovers home with me. The HIGHLIGHT of the evening was the bread pudding. I will have to say that I don't even like bread pudding, but this dessert was up there with the top 5 desserts I've ever had in my life. This is the ONLY reason I'm even giving this review 4 stars, well this and the shrimp/squash casserole. I would go back here ONLY for the bread pudding....it was to die for! The service was great and I really enjoyed the decor and atmosphere. They just need to give you more salad to go with the great dressing!

I'm a fan of this place. They offered me some delicious food with the BEST customer service I've ever had at a restaurant. The Sauce for my Shrimp bowl was a little bland and thats the ONLY reason I did not give then 5 stars :)

Great "who dat" burger and the best bread pudding!

Nasty The food is REALLY salty. So much so that I am going to have to watch my blood pressure and I'm not even sure I can finish the sandwich, never mind anything else. The food is pretty bland except for the incredible amount of salt. The french fries have something on them thats gross, it's one of those places that has some kind of batter on their fries. Pointless waste of money. Will never be doing this again.

Ordered breakfast here with coffee. The food was good. The service staff was friendly but there was a wait before we got our food. No problems with anybody's breakfast this is a good place to come and have breakfast and the prices were fair. I would come back for another visit to try something else on their menu.

This is a pretty decent little café where you can get Louisiana classics. The service is a little slow, but I believe that's because they make most items starting close to scratch. The red beans and rice were very good (more beans than rice). The softshell crab po boy wasn't bad, but could've used a little more sauce. The Italian muffelatta was pretty good, but the olive tapenade fell all over the place. All in all, if you're just looking for a little café to grab a bite I would definitely recommend this place.

I drive by this eatery every time I go to the mall and it's usually busy. Today I decided to order lunch to go. I ordered the fried green tomatoes topped with crawfish etouffee, a kid's red beans and rice and 2 orders of spaghetti and meatballs; one with salad and the other with gumbo. The fried green tomatoes were too thick. Some pieces were too ripe and soggy. The crawfish etouffee topping was just yuck! The red beans and rice was bland. The spaghetti noodles were overcooked and the meatballs were dry. The gumbo was just plain disgusting. It is safe to say I will never come here again.

I have family that live in the area...and they rave about this restaurant. Since I'm always on the hunt for some good food, I figured while in the area, why not stop? Let me first say that the only real reason that I'm giving a 3 star review is based on my family member's experiences that I was not a part of. We had the shrimp, corn, and crab bisque which was tasty and full of crab, but the shrimp were a bit overdone. No biggie. What really put me on the downslope was the wait time to be helped and to order. Took quite awhile. Then, the thing that really did it was my entree. Had the roast beef poboy and I was not satisfied at all. The roast beef tasted like sliced deli meat that someone sautéed with the brown gravy mix. What made it worse is that I found a hair on my food . Our waitress was very kind and did not charge us, however it was still not a great experience. Hopefully it was just an "off day" and it isn't like this all the time.

You will not go hungry here! This was our first visit and the waitresses were very prompt and friendly. Food was great and wonderful!! On our next trip through we will definitely be stopping here again.

Great food and great service service. Samantha was the best. She took good care of us. When were in Slidell again we'll make this a for sure stop. Were from Clearwater visiting our daughter. The best catfish I've ever had.

This was our first visit here. It is a small place, and filled quickly with locals coming for Saturday dinner. We started with the onion rings, which were fantastic. A bit on the large side, but with a wonderful crispy batter, and good dipping sauce. This was easily enough for four people, we could not finish them. My wife had the Hwy 59 Seafood Pasta. It was very good, but she mentioned that she did not find any crabmeat, but was happy with the amount of crawfish and shrimp. I had one of their seafood platters, but don't remember the name. It was something like the Riverland seafood platter, it comes with a soft shell crab, and was $22.95. There was plenty of food here, enough for two. Unfortunately, except for the fish, it was all overcooked. Oysters were cooked so much that they were just little balls of crunch. We finished with the bread pudding. It was okay, nothing to write home about. I would not get it again. The service was good, though. Courtney took good care of us, and did a fine job of getting us out quickly when we mentioned we were on the way to a concert and had to get on the road. We are not locals, and probably will not go out of our way to eat here again. However, if we were local, I definitely would give it another try. It seemed to be very popular, so the food must generally be pretty good. Perhaps this was just an off night for them.

I have visited here twice in the last two weeks. On the first visit, I had the veal parmesan and my wife had the boiled shrimp salad. Wife said the shrimp were the best she had in a restaurant. My veal was cooked well but the marinara was fairly tasteless and a bit runny. We were in a rush to catch a movie and the service was quick and attentive. On the second visit, my wife had the boiled shrimp salad again and I had the paneed veal with macaroni and cheese. Her shrimp was as good as the first time but the lettuce was past ripe, her salad contained a spaghetti noodle and it had cheese on it that the first salad didn't. My veal was over-cooked, greasy and lacked taste. It was also exceptionally thin meat (like as thick as lettuce). Macaroni and cheese was good. Again, the service was quick and attentive.

The best meal I've had in my week in Slidell. The portions are huge, the flavors are sublime, and the bread pudding is spectacular. You're missing out if you skip this while you're in town. I'm glad I don't live here, or I'd get to be 300 lbs in no time.

I wish I could comment on the food but I never got a chance to order. My wife and I stopped by at about 1 pm on a Wednesday for lunch. Somebody behind the bar said we can sit where we like. We sat there and waited and waited and waited. We saw 5 people working there. They were standing around talking to each other but no one ever came to give us menus, take drink orders, or even acknowledge we were there. We finally left and went somewhere else.

Really and truly disgusting. This place needs to have a visit from Gordon Ramsey. We had take out from here last night which cost about $50. We had jalapeño poppers, chicken wings, spring rolls and gumbo. The chicken wings were falling apart and not in a good way. Greasy and tasteless. The jalapeño poppers were undercooked and the oil they use must need replacing as everything fried tasted like dirty oil. The spring rolls were so terrible that I started gagging when I put it in my mouth. The gumbo seemed to be ok until you got to the bottom and then it was flemy. Even writing about this good makes me feel ill. I don't want to know what the kitchen looks like. It was a waste of my $50 and if i had been dining in I would not have paid. The only positive from thus experience is that I know to never ever eat here again!

Ok, I'm not understanding the near perfect rating for this place. I'm honestly baffled. This place is mediocre at best. I'm not really sure why people think this restaurant is the shiznit, but ummm, it's not. I've eaten here or four different occasions. Once by choice and the other three because I was outnumbered. I was underwhelmed every time. The service is always pretty good which is the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one. The problem with this restaurant is the food. It's subpar. I had a mufalatta once that was seriously on the skimpy side when it came to the meat and cheese but had oodles and oodles of olive salad mix. Ugh. I thought the sandwich was supposed to be made the other way around. I ordered onion rings once and while nice and thinly sliced like I prefer them, they were drenched in grease. So much that I couldn't eat them. I know what you're thinking...they're onions fried in oil so sure they'll be greasy. But it seemed as though they were taken straight out of the frying pan and piled on a plate. Aren't you supposed to put those puppies in a drip basket to drain a bit before you serve them? I recently had a conversation with a friend about this place and we were discussing how the food here tastes like cafeteria food. He put it perfectly when he said, "nothing tastes fresh. I bet they don't even crack their own eggs. The probably order them and have them shipped already cracked in a plastic bag." Seems like that could be true to me. Save your money guys and go somewhere else.

Can't review the food because we never got a chance to even see the menu. But the service was terrible. We were told we could sit anywhere & no one ever came. 5 minutes later other custumers came in & were greeted with a straw. We decided to get up & leave.

Decided to stop here for lunch on a Thursday, seems a very popular eating place. I ordered the special of the day which was the 5oz burger, mashed potato and peas. Enjoyed the food, staff were very friendly and greeted me upon arrival. Loved the decor, this is the second time I have seen the same painted tables in this area and just love them. Will be recommending this restaurant to family and friends.

Camellia Cafe would definately be a nice spot to come if you're looking for something "local-ish". It's a small diner with a bar, and has a decent selection of foods. I come every now and again for quaint lunches when family or friends are in town. All have been satisfied by the food and prices. Haven't been here for dinner yet, but it's definately a nice place to stop in if you're looking for something with charm.

I had spent alot of time trying to find me a local place to eat when I visit New Orleans. I always stay in Slidell and drive over .... I could not find Camellia Cafe on my gps and was headed somewhere else when I just happened to drive by. I turned around and stopped to eat here. I loved it ..... I wanted some fried seafood and ended up with a platter from the appetizers that made me mad I didn't go ahead and get a full platter- it was exactly what I had a taste for. The shrimp was firm and tasteful, the fish fresh, the crab claws were a litttle above average - I was more than pleased. I will stop here every time I am in the area in the future - everytime!

I've been to Camellia Cafe several times now and keep coming back whenever I find myself in Slidell. I've only been there for dinner, and the atmosphere is generally cheery and laid back, with a couple of televisions usually playing sports channels and American Idol. There's a bar and table seating for several dozen. I usually find myself getting one of the fried seafood platters. The gut-busting combo platters are great when I haven't had anything serious for lunch, but I usually content myself with the stuffed crab or stuffed shrimp platter, or the red beans and rice. Most platters come with a choice of side, and I've found the shrimp and squash casserole to be my hands down favorite.

Ate there for dinner on a Friday night. Overall good food. Tried the etoufee. Everything tasted made from scratch. My wife and I split the large seafood platter. We had plenty with the etoufee added into the mix. I especially enjoyed the soft shell crab and fried catfish. Waiter service was prompt and courteous. If you like seafood then this a place to go.

I had the fried catfish and it was absolutely delicious. And I'm picky, especially when it comes to catfish. The service was wonderful. I arrived 1/2 hour before closing and never felt rushed and the food was cooked to order. I'll definitely be going back!

My family and I drove out to Mississippi from Florida for a marathon and decided to drive over to Slidell just to eat at Camellia's Cafe after reading about it on the Internet. My husband ordered the red beans and rice, my daughter ordered the seafood pasta, and I ordered the shrimp, corn, and crab bisque. Our service and our meal was terrific from start to finish. Even though the meals were enormous, we still made room for the bread pudding dessert. That was phenomenal. And of course, our server Robert was exceptional!!!

The soft-shell crabs in the sandwich and bun were fried and seasoned well. The poboy was huge. My wife and I ate it as an open face sandwich because it was just to big to take a bite out of. It came with loads of perfect french fries. The spinach salad was good. The gumbo was also good.
