The best authentic Mexican food I've had in Shreveport and the best priced...would definitely recommend. Love the chicken empanadas!

Mexican tacos, tortas and burritos. Cheap and delicious - what more do you need to know? Their salsas are very good. As other reviewers have noted, the place is a "fixer-upper" and their handle on English is sketchy, but I go there for the tacos, not the companionship or the facilities. Try it!

Best Valentines Date. We had already left two restaurants because they were too crowded and loud, and were driving around. I got onto Yelp and I am so glad we found this little hole-in-the-wall. It reminded me of being in Mexico. Fresh. Authentic. Delicious!

Excellent carne asada tacos!! Don't let the outside of the place scare you off. Inside was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

The tacos are the closest you'll get to real Mexican food in Shreveport. The only reason I give them three stars is because they can be greedy. I understand this community is not a big one for Mexicans but those tacos usually cost between $1- 1.50 with unlimited toppings and condiments. At this place they're 2.25 and they only give 1 lemon slice. Today I asked for more lemon and I was charged 75 cents extra for THREE lemon slices. I could get a whole lemon for 25 cents at the grocery store!! But overall good food. Service is a little on the slow side too. I will still be back.

What a great place to escape the trendy. This is great food, excellent prices, real people. We arrived at 13:10. Place had about 10 customers, so we missed the rush. Found a table with a view of the classic used car showroom next door. Someone had missed getting the benches wiped down, I presume because we had come in just after a busy lunch hour, but that was resolved quickly. Men's bathroom was clean. Our first time in. Ordering is done at the counter immediately around the corner to your right as you come in the front. You won't see the sign from the doorway, just walk past the wall on your right, turn right, and there it is, to your right. I ordered two of the Sausage Tacos and my husband got two of the Beef Cheek Tacos, and both were requested with onions and cilantro. I added a canned soft drink to the tab and paid just under $12. We were given our order number and picked a table. It took about 12 minutes. These were not the made ahead variety you get at the franchise tacomats. Our service staff brought out two styrofoam plates that had the fresh and steamy tacos draped over the edges, stacked full of our meat selection along with two generous juicy lime quarters. The tortillas were fantastic. Real handmade tortillas that had just come off the griddle and were tender, with crispy areas of caramelization. The meat was hot, prepared precisely, with a seasoning that warmed my memory. The sausage had the addition of some sautéed onions, giving it some sweet notes. The beef cheeks had the added fresh onion and cilantro that gave them a fresh taste. Overall, an excellent place to introduce yourself to what real Mexican food is. The location and accessibility are not easy to navigate, but those things give the place character and relevance to the real people who eat here. We will be back, because there was a cake behind the counter that is calling our names, and because we enjoy very good Mexican food.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a great dinner place our last night in Shreveport. Allen loves Mexican, and the place we chose looked like any of our favorite Kansas City Mexican places. The menu hanging over the counter was short, but we both found something that sounded good. I chose a burrito, and Allen ordered three tacos. The food came quickly. My burrito was huge- I finished most of it- but Allen ate all of his tacos. I found it a bit spicy, but dinner was great- we enjoyed our experience and would recommend it! We would go back again!

This place is absolutely fantastic. Sure, the building is an absolute dump, and the help doesn't speak very good English, but the food is absolutely phenomenal. It's the best Mexican in town. I like El Compadre when I'm eating out, but for takeout, you simply cannot beat Taqueiria La Michoacana.

Outstanding little place!!! I was not sure about it at first but they did not disappoint. The tacos are the best and most "authentic" in town. Try them out!

I decided to give this place another shot. I was craving a breakfast burrito and couldn't think of any other place that would have a legit Mexican breakfast burrito. I live 25 mins away and so was very eager everything would work out. Getting a breakfast burrito back home in California is an event. You first must invite along all the men in the house (and me) and call your brother over too. Depending on what time you woke up, the burrito comes before or after you visit the swap meet. Or perhaps your yard guy didn't show and you spent your morning watering your own orange trees and weeding and you are just too tired to make breakfast--- sorry, my review got away from me here. I called ahead and was told they DO serve breakfast. Yay!! The woman at the counter told me they had egg & potato, egg and chorizo or egg and bacon. I didn't see breakfast on the menu. Wanting to be as similar to the burritos I order back home, I asked if she could combine the egg and bacon with potato. She did. I waited about ten minutes (so happy they were fresh!) and panicked- she hadn't mentioned refried beans! I hope it came with them!! I was stunned when she said my total for two burritos (had to buy one for my better half) was $17.37. Holy enchilada! Maybe they came with a side of rice and beans (they didn't)? That was robbery! I quickly forgot about being gouged because there was a delightful looking tres leches cake staring at me from behind the glass. My stomach and fat cells and brain were at war, but my brain won and I passed on That Cake. Knowing we didn't like their horchata from last time, I skipped that. The burrito was HUGE! It came with a side of green salsa. Bite one was fabulous! The egg was cooked perfectly and the beans (yay!) were flavored nicely. I eagerly waited the next bite- is that when I would hit the sweet spot? That bite of a bacon slice that you have to carefully tear with your teeth so you don't pull the whole slice out??? Two big bites later and I still had not reached it. Was there bacon in this??? Yes, I could see a few teeny pieces of it. Then I took another bite and tasted potato. But not fried potato. No, this was just tiny pieces of red skin potato. Nooooo. This wasn't right at all! And what in the name of the Yucatan was THAT??? I didn't go to Chipotle! But there was RICE in my burrito. My world came crashing to a halt. I calculated in my head how long it would take me to drive to my dad's house near San Diego to get a real burrito. Sigh. Fantasy over. Still, for what it was, the burrito WAS good. It wasn't what it could have been though. My husband has yet to taste his and when he does and if our thoughts differ, I will add his as well. I will likely return to try the tacos at some point.

Awesome! This is the most authentic and delicous Mexican food to be found in the area. The service is terrific and the selection is unmatched. They offer tripe taco, beef cheek taco, and tongue taco. The burritos are large enough for two. Horacha is offered. They are keeping it real for sure. I have found my new haunt; I am looking forward to my next visit. A definite A+++++.

Delish Mexican street tacos (not Tex-Mex or La-wanna-be-Mex)....almost just like the ones in my hood back in Houston! Yes, looks can be deceiving as this run-down establishment is in a questionable neighborhood (no worries, I've always got my mace in case troubles arise!). But remember, don't judge a book by its cover :) To date, I've only tried the tacos of the al pastor, asada, barbacoa & lengua varieties and they are all finger-lickin good! *drool*...*drool*...*daydream about tacos*...*drool* Whenever in the SBC area, I do enjoy finding these little hidden gems that the general public has yet to discover. It's like a treasure hunt for the elusive gems. *ahoy mateys* To soothe & ease my authentic taco cravings, Taqueria la Michoacana is my gem of choice and you should definitely give it a try at least once (although I think you'll be coming back for 2nds, 3rds, 4ths...etc) before passing judgement. Happy eating & enjoy your taco fiesta!

Best tacos in town! The beef cheek and pork tacos are to die for, paired perfectly when washed down with a large Mexican soda at the restaurant, or a nice cold cerveza at home when taken to-go. One of my favorite spots in Shreveport.

Easily my favorite place to eat in Shreveport! It's nothing fancy but they sure know how to make amazing tacos. Best tacos I've ever had! So worth $2.25. I'm thankful it's a bit of a drive from my house or I might be there every day

Hands down. Best tacos and burritos in town!

Authentic Mexican tacos! I had the chorizo, steak, and pork tacos! So delicious!!! The chips and salsa were OK. Kind of pricey in my opinion. But the tacos are so worth the $2.25 for each. Not a big fan of Mexican food but I will definitely be eating here often!!

Very delicious, authentic and well-priced! The steak tacos are my favorite, and they pile them up with tons of meat, cilantro and onions. Don't expect a huge menu or well-dressed restaurant; it definitely has a quaint feel, being a taqueria. Hungry for mexican but want something different? You need to go here.

Like the sign says - best tacos in town. We did not verify the sign but believe it. The tacos hit the spot for us. We had a beef cheek and chicken tacos for $2.25 each - both piping hot and fresh.

Great Mexican tacos. I ordered a chicken taco and a chorizo taco. They came to me in about four minutes. The tacos contained their respective meats, grilled onions, raw minced onion, and chopped cilantro. The tacos were piping hot and double wrapped in corn tortillas. They came with a wedge of lime and green salsa/sauce. It tasted like a lime/tomatillo type salsa. Both tacos were delicious, but the chorizo was my favorite. You can add cheese and /or avocado for minimal extra cost. They also offer tongue, beef, and head for the tacos. They've got tortas, too. I recommend this place if you're looking for great, authentic Mexican tacos.

They get four stars for keeping it real. Finally a Mexican restaurant in Shreveport, Louisiana where it's not all americanized (I just made up that word, I'm copy writing it). I can say it's the best taco's in town (I'm not just saying that because they gave me a free taco) $2.00, sh#t that's a deal in my book....and holy mother of god! The Burrito's are huge...guaranteed to fill you up! Taste so good, makes you wanna slap yo mama! (took that quote from the movie Friday) They make the food outside in a food trailer and bring it into you, (yep they cook it in a trailer...so it has to be good right!) the people who work there are really nice. Oh and for you people that really want to try something new...try lengua (beef tongue), and beef cheeck taco's. Nicky's ain't got nothing on this place!

Always order tacos de lengua and they are always amazing and come out pretty quick. They have horchata, enough said.

Yum! This is a real hidden gem. This came as a recommendation by a friend and it did not disappoint. I actually had to look the name up because we call it "taco truck". This is a little eatery connected to a convenient store on Youree. They actually cook the tacos outside in a white mobile kitchen in the parking lot. I don't think anything can quite compare to what I had in Mexico, but these are pretty darn good. The ingredients are pretty fresh. I'm not sure if they make their own corn tortillas, but they are pretty flavorful. My recommendation for a first-timer is the pork. The pork seems to be a bit more consistent in terms of the seasoning and texture over the regular beef. They have other types of tacos, so you might want to ask. Don't be surprised if all they serve is tacos. Sometimes they have other dishes, but they usually only have had tacos on my visits. Worth a try! Very reasonable at $2 a taco.

Definitely not as good as the ones I've had in Texas, but this place is the best you're going to get in Shreveport. Large portions, cheap food, and it's actually made in a trailer out back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
