I got the shrimp po'boy. I'm not from Louisiana, but this tasted like the real deal to me! Service was pretty good, although they ran out of menus (I'm not sure I even know how that happens) and we had to ask for kids menus (despite arriving with two hungry children)! The kids ate everything and everyone was happy. I come out here to visit family a couple times a year and I would totally come here again. Probably one of the best places in Opelousas!

Our hotel recommended this spot for a good meal.... and we were more than happily surprised... Everything was better than our expectations.... We'd go back when we get to Louisiana again.

I had the eggplant appetizer, 4 breaded strips in cheesy sauce with 6 shrimp for $8, it was very tasty. The duck meat in the soup was tender but the sauce was a bit too salty. The crawfish étouffée was a little bland. My husband loved his corn and crab bisque soup $5.

Ive actually eaten here a few more times than I have checked in. It is easily the better option to eat in Opelousas. Mostly, the dings in stars come from service and overall inconsistency which I will stipulate further. Service - Not the best. Waitresses always seem rushed, only there to get you order and get your payment. Not often they come check on the table, look for refills etc. Not a lot of smiling faces. Out of 5 trips I have had one, honestly great waitress. Food - Tasty, but pricey. Understandably so, they use quality ingredients, however in some cases the portions do not reflect the price point. Usually not a stickler, but I am not a fan of options for lunch being 20+$. However, they do offer an affordable lunch special, usually around 10$. Of the menu items I have tried, they are good. I have ordered the cajun girl po-po several times, however each time was prepared differently, when done right down right delicious. One overcooked, one stuffed to the brim, one barely had anything in it, one seasoned nicely and another bland. It's a shame for the asking price you would expect consistency. Decor - Not much to say here. Again, not to sound cheap, however their menu boasting such prices and your napkins are a roll of paper towels..... just concern with which direction they want to take. Overall though, very comfortable and typical "cajun fare". I make these observations and you may think, "well, hes not from around here".,.. well my last name isn't Thibodeaux because I am from somewhere else. That said, its definitely worth a trip and others experience may very well be more positive than mine. I just look for the complete package and while the food speaks for itself, some fine tuning in other areas would benefit.

If you are in Opelousas looking for lunch, this is your spot. I've tried most the restaurants around at this point and this is my go-to spot. I've tried the seafood salad, eggplant savage, and hamburgers. They were all very good!

Ate here shortly after moving to Opelousas and it was quite good. The portions were large and the staff was great. I had the pork with red beans lunch combo and left stuffed. The lunch combos are reasonably priced, but everything else seemed more on the expensive side. Probably won't eat here for a dinner because of the price as it's cheaper to drive somewhere better in Laffy, but won't turn down lunch here!

We were on our way home from an LSU game (GEAUX TIGERS). Good place for lunch. I had the fish poboy, wife and daughter had the seafood gumbo. Staff was nice and friendly and food came out pretty fast. I would come back again for sure.

*EXCELLENT* Food -- You gotta try this place! Growing up in South Louisiana, the abundance of fresh seafood makes it easy to become a seafood lover at an early age. Things like fried shrimp, fried oysters, and fried catfish are staples found at just about any small diner or local cafe, as well as the more upscale seafood places. The fried catfish here is as good as I've ever eaten... (and I've eaten plenty!) Having a friend who lives in Opelousas is a great excuse for me to meet up with him so that we can take advantage of this place's Wednesday night special... all-you-can-eat fried catfish / fried shrimp. (During crawfish season, there's also an all-you-can-eat boiled crawfish special.) The shrimp are most certainly tasty... but it's the catfish that is the thing! Battered and dredged in a rough corn meal, perfectly fried. When you bite into it, you find the catfish is fresh, flaky, moist, and tender... everything fried fish should be! The atmosphere is casual. The restaurant is clean. The service is well above average. The staff is nice, polite, and friendly. I've eaten here a number of times and plan to remain a regular.

Driving from Myrtles Plantation and starving, Yelp led me and my boyfriend here for a late lunch! We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer, which arrived shortly thereafter to help curb our appetites until our main entrees arrived! The pickles were lightly battered and not too greasy! I ordered a house salad with eggs, and he ordered a 1/2 Cajun Boy po~boy sandwich! Delicious! The greens, tomatoes, and eggs were fresh and hit the spot! He loved every bite of his po~boy! (Fries were a little salty, but not a reason to complain!) Our server, Shelby, was very attentive, kind and recommended the fried cheesecake for dessert...which we happily ordered to-go. I'm sure the dessert is going to be as delicious as our late lunch, and I cannot wait to find out! I highly recommend if you are passing through this small town on your way through LA!

Tried their special of the day... prime rib... it was the worst I have ever eaten. I live out of town and chose this place based on a yelp review. Their seafood may be great however crawfish were not on the menu that night so we chose to have the special of the day and that proved a mistake. It was my mothers birthday and it was sad to see her wiping the grease off the prime rib with her napkin. It was an abomination. When I voiced my concerns everyone was in shock and looked at us as if we had the plague yet did nothing to satisfy our complaints. I paid and left determined to write up my review and never go back there again. I cannot recall having a worst experience. Thumbs down to the management of this sorry place.

I'm from the area but now live in Houston. In town visiting my grandmother in the hospital I found this place on Yelp. I think I've found my new honey hole. The food and service were AMAZING! You have got to try the Pork Shank over Smothered Cabbage Appetizer. We were a party of 7 and I tried a little of everyone's food. Not a bad dish on the table. Crawfish House is my new favorite for when I'm in town. DELISH!
