DON'T DO IT! This is close to the house, and we usually go to Little Toyko because it's in the same area. This time we decided to try something new. Bad decision. The decor and ambiance of this place is awful. Four-top tables everywhere, no booths, nothing cozy. Fine. We'll sit in the middle of the restaurant and feel awkward. We can move past that. The one redeeming quality of this place is the seared tuna avocado salad. It is too bad too because the roll we ate after that left a bad taste in our mouth. The salmon on the Hot & Spicy roll was super thick and chewy. In fact, it felt like we were chewing on a chicken's tendon. And it didn't taste fresh. GROSS! It also had lettuce in it, and that wasn't listed on the menu. We weren't expecting the crunchy texture. I suggest if you want something in the immediate area, take your ass down the street to Little Tokyo. If you want some of the best sushi in the city go to Asuka on Earhart or Sushi Brothers on St. Charles. Don't waste your time on Uchi.

This sushi joint is better than it's predecessor, Little Tokyo only in that I feel the prices are more reasonable. They are neck to neck in terms of sushi quality but I feel that they are a little more reasonable with prices and have hibachi.

I've only been once, but I went with friends and we shared and everything was wonderful! $12 small bottle of unfiltered sake!!!

Little Tokyo's main chef opened this place. All the fantastic hands down , wonderful sushi that "Little Tokyo" was famous for is because of the new owner of this place. Have not spent much time in the restaurant since the take-over and name change. But the sushi is out of this world! Sooo damn good. Priced accordingly , it is not cheap but definitely worth every single penny! Take out is always fresh and ready at the counter, the owner makes every attempt to greet you , and in my last pick up he was waving and telling me thank you by my first name from across the restaurant ! (Not sure if he remembered me because I've been ordering for so many years or if he just recalled my name off the ticket) but either way, the best BEST fresh sushi made to order in Metairie. You gotta try the spicy seared Tuna salad. ***mouth watering as I write this*** this is no chain sushi place or buffet cardboard rolls.

I am blown away at this place, and surely not in a good way. Server approached table, took order, repeated it back to me and walk away. I ordered a crunchy roll with no asparagus and my friend ordered the Metairie roll without avocado. When we received our food, both had the veggies we specifically asked to be removed. The server looks at both of us and said, "I told him no veggies! Can you take it out? It's very easy to remove." And she set the plates down and walked away. I could not believe it. I will not be returning.

Decided to be spontaneous and try take-out from this place. Got beef yaki soba and a tuna roll. The soba seemed mushy/overcooked, and the tuna roll was super small. Unlikely to order from here again.

Simply put: in the plethora of sushi restaurants around, this is a perfectly fine one. I would not leave my neighborhood just to come here, but if in the area and craving sushi, this is an option to satisfy that craving. Service was fast, portions agreeable, and the sushi was very fresh. Owner had clear rapport with regulars. Specials are posted on wall, and staff is friendly and willing to describe the different options Nabeyaki was good, and the spicy tuna rainbow roll wasn't bad either. Ordered the tuna tower special- a base of seasoned sushi rice stacked with crab, avocado and a tuna poke salad on top. very satisfying

We have been here several times now for Hibachi. Each time has been great. The food is great. Each time we have had a different Chef. Each time, they have been good. We probably bug the crew because we are only two and happen to arrive when no one else is doing hibachi, but they treat us well anyway.

I want to start of by saying if I could eat here at least once a week I'll be a happy girl. This place never disappoint and the sushi are always fresh. I've never been let-down no matter what time or day I come here. The people here are great and welcoming. They always joke and make people laugh also express interest in each customer making them feel like family. They offer hibachi here too, but I never got the chance to try out that side of the restaurant; I'm too busy stuffing my face with sushi. I would probably give the hibachi area a try in the future if I'm not craving sushi, but don't count on it. Give this place a shot if you're ever in the area.

Delicious sushi. We has the spicy girl and Hawaiian roll. Both fresh seafood and enough for two. Plenty of parking out front and the staff was friendly and interactive. Will definitely come back

The ambiance isn't very good here and the selection is less than at many other sushi joints. I've eaten at the "noted" Uchi in Austin and had higher expectations for a joint with the same name. It isn't terrible here but there are just so many better options nearby. They are quick though so if you're in a hurry this place can be a quick lunch in the often crowded section of this area of the Causeway.

Before Uchi opened, I remember going to Little Tokyo and eating great food created by Johnny. Johnny continues to great unbelievable food at Uchi. He really is an artist with fish, and the guy couldn't be nicer giving me free special rolls whenever I pop in. The best plain sushi to get here is the New Zealand Salmon; the stuff practically melts in your mouth. The yellowtail is also some of the best you'll ever have. When it comes to the rolls, the best thing you can get is the johnny hand roll. I also really enjoy the old school spicy tuna roll, medium spicy roll, six brother sushi, and the audi roll. Great place, not too expensive. Make sure to roll in and try this place.

Good food Horrible service since some of us wanted to eat sushi at the hibachi bar... So rude

Fairly expensive for what you get at this sushi joint. Service was okay. They actually made the wrong roll for me and asked if I was okay with the one they made. Hahah tf? The box salmon sushi actually had a decent amount fish but was prepared kind of sloppy - taste was on point though. Prolly won't come back based on price alone.

My favorite sushi place in the area. Great selection of rolls that are all amazing. The restaurant is usually empty in the afternoon and into the evening which makes for extra quick service. The staff is friendly and the place seems to be clean. Would recommend!

I drive by this location every day going to and from work and I have been anticipating the renovation completion for months! I was impressed when I got a sneak preview on yelp so I finally had my chance to see for myself. It looks nothing like it used to and thats def a good thing. 2 hibachi tables are on the left, over a dozen tables in the middle and sushi bar on the right. Besides the interior, the food pics had me even more curious. I ordered 3 items strictly because the pic looked so good:) The standout was the special salad(no fish) and the seared tuna cucumber/ seaweed salad. The specialty rolls were fresh but just ok. The shumai was your typical frozen type and the shrimp fried rice had no flavor. The shrimp were cut in half length wise,I guess to cut costs. 2 salads,2 rolls, and the kids shared the rice with soft drinks totalling$ 80 w/18% tip for lunch. I would def return with a coworker to try out more rolls but I know it will be hard to convince the family to return.

The food is terrible! I had the six brother roll and discovered pieces of clear plastic inside my roll. Unfortunately I didn't notice until I ate about half. I just figured it was something chewy in the roll. Then my wife gets the filet mignon roll and the meat and soy paper on top was so charred it wasn't even edible. I tried a piece and it literally taste like what burnt hair smells like. This was easily one of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had. On top of that I woke up the next morning feeling like I had food poisoning! I almost didn't make it in to work. The only thing I can say is, wow... Never again! Oh yeah, when I mentioned the plastic in my food to my waitress she just laughed and said "thank you for telling me. I will let the chef know." Are you kidding! No I'm sorry, or let me discount your meal, nothing. This place deserves to be shut down.

Being as how my wife and I had eaten here when it was Little Tokyo, we decided to see what this new sushi restaurant had to offer. First off, the decor is a lot more open and everything seems brighter and more fun. We immediately noticed that two hibachi grills were added which is something we plan to try during our next trip. We decided to try the Geisha roll and Super Bowl rolls. Oh.......my god were these rolls delicious. It's been a very long time since I have had sushi this good. Now I know why folks rave about Johnny, the head sushi chef. He is an absolute artist. I have never ordered a second helping of a roll before but I couldn't help myself this time around. Everything tasted so fresh and so so SO delicious!!! After our meal, our server gave us some lightly fried banana slices drizzled in honey and sprinkled with powdered sugar. "Dessert for you! On the house!" I was absolutely floored. But it wasn't just for us! The server gave dessert plates to the other tables that were there as well! Very generous and a very nice gesture! We both agreed that we found our new favorite sushi restaurant. Even as we left, Johnny and his fellow chefs made sure to say thank you to us and goodbye. Other sushi restaurants should take note. Uchi Sushi is the real deal!!! Love it!!

Absolutely one of the best sushi restaurants in the city. Always super fresh, always very accommodating, always friendly. I have eaten here many many times, and it is my go to sushi place. Especially love the seared tuna with avocado salad, the Audi roll, and the chocolate city roll. Love this place

Uchi Sushi used to be Little Tokyo but after a bit of a remodel it's back with a new name. I think the great staff and chefs at Little Tokyo moved down the road with the name. Uchi has a way to go before they'll be top notch. I ordered my standard, chirashi. It's a great way to measure a new place. The taste was good but the lunch itself was a bit small. This was even more apparent because the noodle salad I ordered was huge. Someone needs to review portions a little bit. Hopefully they'll get things straightened out and grow into a better restaurant. If not, there's Little Tokyo down the road.

My first time here since it became Uchi and I was pleasantly surprised. The space is updated, clean and definitely a nice change. We came in on a Saturday night at 9:45 and the staff was super friendly. We got the chicken and shrimp hibachi dinner with fried rice. It was quite possibly the most delicious and decadent stir fry I've ever had. May have had a pound of butter in it, but I'm not even mad!!! Even better, it wasnt drowning in soy sauce like at Shogun. Will definitely be back since it's in my neighborhood.

Renovations look good, but wish the sushi was better. I was looking forward to trying it since all of the upgrades took place, but not sure I will be back for sushi. Descriptions on menu don't have all ingredients or sauces listed so be sure to ask.

Best hibachi I've had in a long time! I had filet (comes with noodles) and shrimp with a side of rice. Everything was excellent. We will be back again very soon.

I've eaten here three times in all since it opened under new ownership. The last time I went, I chose to eat in instead of picking up an order. The wait staff is definitely fast, though not super friendly. The sushi chefs did greet us upon coming in and leaving. I ordered the Sweet and Spicy Roll. It was a great balance between sweet and spicy. There are actually slices of jalepeno inside the roll. All of the sushi I've had here have been very fresh, so I will definitely continue to be a take out regular.

We loved this place. The rolls were huge and tasty. The hibachi was great too. We left stuffed and ate everything it was so good. The chef was fun and kept the table happy with the show he put on. I'll be back.
