This will be short and sweet. I had a craving for a Cuban sandwich and was in the neighborhood. I had a tamal along with an empanada for an appetizer followed by the Cuban sandwich. The pictures on the wall are great to look at while you are eating and saw quite a few other items that I must try. Service was spot on and very friendly.

Very eclectic cafe with authentic decor and staff. Would highly recommend anything on the menu, but the Cubano and the medianoche hit the spot. Every time I am in there someone always says "this is our first time here". If that then keeps up, they are going to take over the strip mall like Chinese kitchen on Carrollton. Excellent food and great staff.

My wife and I came here for lunch one day and when we walked in the place was empty (red flag). We were served by a cute old Cuban lady who made our experience a little fun. I ordered the Ropa vieja (very salty) and my wife had the Cuban sandwich (a little bland). The food wasn't impressive at all and the portions were extremely small. We had a little bag of churros to-go and they were decent, they prepare them plain then have a little jar at the front counter of the cinnamon/sugar mix and sprinkle it in the bag. We found them to be a little on the hard side. I am all about supporting local family owned restaurants but I don't think we will back... :/

I try to stop here as often as i can. I always get the chicken and rice with yuca con mojo (mmmmmMmmmmmm) they'll make it for you even if it's not on the menu for that day. It's a little on the expensive side, but well worth it!

Excellent Cuban Food! Real Cuban Owners. Like stepping back into the 50's & 60's! Nice chance from today's fast world! Enjoy! Recommended good eating!

Small family_run business. Service was cordial and attentive, sweet little older Cuban lady. The fruit juices were delicious;appetizer yuca with garlic sauce was really good. Lechon and or bistec encebollado were bland ,uninispiring. Flan and churros were just OK. Overall kind of "Blah" food. I might give them another try, friends tell me Cuban sandwiches are really good.

Pros: Cheap, fast, very warm and personal service. Cons: Just OK food. (I had the cheese-stuffed potato and fried plantains [though, I should note, the plantain dipping sauce was great.]) While I wasn't super excited about my selections, I definitely saw potential and plan to return to try other menu items.

IF THIS PLACE GETS 4 STARS OR LESS YALL CRAZY. First off we had the beef empanadas, and the stuff potato balls don't remember what it's called amazing, the we ordered our sandwich cubanos with a side of tostones. The taste, seasoning, the cooking on everything was perfect. I've come here since I was a little girl but my first time eating here and eating something other than churros cuz that's all we came for and my very first time eating a cubano. Amazinggggg will come again. Oh and the Churros are amazingggggg

It was our first time to eat Cuban food. We had some tamales, a cubano, and the Ropa vieja. All were cooked well and seasoned fine. My wife ordered a mojito which she said was very delicious. It was prepared by an older woman who was very delighful and made our experience that much more enjoyable. We want to visit again soon to try their other dishes.

Great Cubano sandwich; the best I've eaten in the New Orleans area. Definitely try the house-made mata guapos hot sauce.

So rude. I tried to order off the 'specialties' board only to be told, "no". No reason, nothing else was said. Then he shoved a menu at me saying this is the menu. I asked again about the specialties and again had a plastic menu shoved at me. I just walked out. Mediocre food and rude service. Plus a surcharge for to-go orders.

Went here to try the Cubano. Delicious. Filling. Great for a lunch, except I'm not in Metairie all that often for lunch. For anyone that knows restaurants in Portland, OR, I used to love Pambiche. I wish I could go in for dinner and order things like Lengua en Salsa and Ropa Vieja. Maybe they serve those things when they are open for dinner? But anyway, I also tried the empanada and the fried plantains, both of which were delightful. I will return if I am in the area while they are open.

I really love this place! It is in a very unassuming location, and I only found it through friends. I'm glad I did. I've eaten there several times now and each time has been very good. Homemade and served with love. The staff are very friendly and funny. It is not fancy, just good homemade food. They were pretty busy with to go orders as well.

Since I am from South Florida, Cuban cuisine is just a part of my culture. Being in Metairie I was starting to feel a little deprived and so I sought out a place to fill that void in my life. With a little searching, I discovered Churros Cafe and headed to the small restaurant to get some food. Located in a strip mall, visually it left much to be desired so I found it best to just grab my food and go, although next time I will probably dine in. It seems that they specialize in Cuban sandwiches but offer Empanadas and simply things like soups and salads. In addition to that, they also have daily lunch specials. I happened to go when the special for the day was Cuban Steak with Red Beans and Rice. I was surprised that they did not have black beans and instead red beans but since red beans are such a staple in New Orleans, I wasn't too surprised. The food was good and met my expectations. The steak was tender and the flavor of the food overall was on point. I also ordered a side of plantains. They were tasty and sweet, I just don't like when they are cut so thick. I finished off my meal with Churros. These were some really amazing Churros! They claim to make them from scratch and my mouth agreed. They were great and would have been even greater had I had some chocolate to go with it. Although the food isn't what I would call "authentic" Cuban food, with the Southern twist, it created a nice take on Cuban Cuisine that I enjoyed. I cannot wait to go back.

This place is just ok even though people keep raving about it. It is tasty and moderately fast for lunch. However, after spending about $17 bucks on a midnight sandwich that isn't that big, some fried plaintains, and a coke it isn't as cheap as people claim. I guess I got spoiled in Florida, but I was expecting more flavor and more food for the price.

Had a bridal shower at churros cafe and it turned out great! It was perfect size, great food, and very accommodative staff.

they make dishes daily and fresh. Absolutely nothing with the exception of french fries NOTHING IS PROCESSED ! Season to perfection. Great place to have Cuban coffee and food.do not expect anything New Orleans style its all Havana .

  • Christopher J.

Got Cuban sandwiches and a beef stuffed potato. Everything was pretty good, but not great. Service is slow/inefficient and the prices are reasonable. I liked it better last time when we were the only ones there and service was a bit better. Not bad for average Cuban food.

Best Cuban food in the New Orleans, Houma and Morgan City areas, I've tried several different ones and Churros Cafe is the real deal! Safe to say its authentic Cuban food for the Louisiana area. Yuca frita con mojo is the absolute best, they do it right :o)

Now that was a Mojito! Browsing Yelp for someplace new to try and came across the Churro reviews. Cuban??? High rating, but not many reviews. Hmmm, is this one of those restaurants with 8 reviews, all owners or employees? Average number of reviews is like 3? Surprisingly... no! I'm intrigued.... and it is conveniently located on the same street as my dentist. Not really sure what is convenient about that.... I guess I didn't have to figure out how to get there. 7:00 PM on Saturday evening. Churros is located in a sleepy strip mall about a block and a half south of Veterans. We did a quick drive-by to check it out and were cheered to see bright lights and customers. Parking was no problem. Probably holds 50+, about 15 people seated when we arrived. Variety of tables and seating, not bad. Nothing exciting about the decor, but clean, bright and cheery. Based on other reviews, we were expecting to order at the counter, but, in fact, there is table service. This is very casual, laid back atmosphere. Our waitress was an experienced senior citizen, I gathered a friend of the owners. I'm generally not a fan of service help with personality, but this was a great experience. We started with drinks, a mojito and a beer. The mojito was excellent and I can say we have sampled them across the city. When we mentioned that to the waitress, it turns out she had made them and proceeded to exchange notes on the perfect mojito. It's a secret (shhhhhh!) but they use raw sugar instead of simple syrup, some kind of concentrated flavor mix and fresh mint leaves that are growing in the front of the shop. She actually rounded up samples so we could try them at home - we did, wasn't as good. On to the food - Cubano and Medianoche don't look that big, but there is a lot of food inside and they are pretty filling. Very good, could have used a shot of Zatarain's Creole Mustard (but what couldn't?). There isn't a lot of opportunity to order Cubans around the city, but this is the best one I have had. Fried plantains were kind of boring. The rice and beans were delicious - next time I'm going to double up on the rice and skip the plantains. I am definitely going back, maybe lunch today. $50 for food, drinks, tip and complementary mojito ingredients.

The food, especially the Cuban sandwiches and coffee, is pretty good. Churros suck, surprisingly. But the main reason for the three stars,is INSANELY SLOW SERVICE!!!!!

  • Lauren L.

I had only been here once before, so my boyfriend and I ordered the sampler appetizer platter - it was an amazing feast for only $20! I highly recommend it if you'd like a variety of tasty treats. If you're only getting one appetizer get the ground meat fried mashed potato balls; they are to die for!

This is the best cuban restaurant that I know of in NOLA. This is actually one of my top places to eat in the whole city. The rest of the city can go to overly crowded/rated Coop's Place or Drago's. Give me Churros any day of the week. A local family-owned restaurant that serves their food with love and devotion. The atmosphere is very laid-back and relaxing. The menu boasts a lot of familiar cuban dishes such as roast pork with congri and yucca, shredded beef with rice and tostones, and a Cuban sandwich. I come often for lunch as they have great lunch specials during the week. Love their Tues, Wed, and Thurs lunch specials (Tues is beef stew, Wed is chicken fricase with rice or you can have shredded beef, black beans, and rice. Thurs is roast pork, yucca, and congri). Lunch specials are a great bargain at $8.25. Can't get any better food and service for that price! Oh yeah also try the churros (Cuba's version of a beignet. It's a fried dough stick). Simply addictive!!

We have found a new favorite restaurant! Everything was cooked and presented perfectly and you can really tell it is done with love. It was DELICIOUS. I am finishing the black beans I brought home as I type... The customer service is unbeatable. Dare I say, it is the best service I've had in Metairie or NOLA, yet. We got the mashed potato/beef app, steak w onions, fried green plantains, black beans, & cubano. Finished up with fresh-mad Churros. Magnificent. Only complaint we have is that it was quite warm in the restaurant. Otherwise, we are so excited to find this gem. We can't wait to return!

Great Cuban sandwich, fried plaintains, empanadas & churros. Have been coming to this hole in the wall for years - 30 maybe? Service from waitstaff is good but owner is grumpy/grouchy most of the time!! Just let it go & enjoy the food!!

  • Shannon S.

The lunch specials are really not very impressive to me and I don't find them to be a good value. In fact I would NEVER eat the Monday special of the Cuban steak ever again. Perhaps the other items on the menu are far better but after sampling several of the lunch specials I'm just not impressed. They do provide very rapid turn around on your order and the specials are served within minutes of ordering them. Service is non-existent here and you just order at the counter and they put your food out on the counter when its ready. Pho Orchid is a block away from here and I much prefer lunch there. I will return to sample the dinner menu at some point and see if that brings some greater love to the disappointment I've experienced here so far.

The food here is absolutely amazing. I go every chance I get when I visit the New Orleans area. My favorites are the Cubano and Medianoche sandwiches but everything on the menu is great. The owners are very warm and friendly. The service is good. Churros Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants in the NOLA area.

The place smelled delicious right when I walked in the door which was a great sign. I had a traditional Cuban pressed sandwich which was the best I have had in years. I also had the black beans and rice on the side which was done just right as well. Make sure and try the hot sauce they make themselves, a little kick and a unique "sweet" flavor as well. I actually bought a bottle of it to take home with me. If you like Cuban food don't miss this place.

Comfort food beyond cultures. Seriously...If you go to Churros (and you should.) and if B is working...Tell her you saw it on YELP and mention this or my last post. I was told they take amazing care of word of mouth people. She actually mentioned one couple who loved it so much from the review, they had to come. I think you will see their review above that says they went back again. It is really worth it. Perfect plantains Amazing Churizo wrapped in beef, slow cooked. Wonderful crunchy and rich fish. My girly had the fish and I hadthe beef. We shared a side of fried plantains (duh! It's crazy NOT to try it). I had the Cuban bread that they always try to talk you out of because they think it's a shame to waste money on just bread...but dammit, the bread is worth it. The fish (tilapia) was like a perfectly done southern Fish fry. It was crispy in places...a snappy coating..and a really good flavor. While I usually prefer catfish or other more flavorful fish, I can not tell you one single bad thing abut the dish. I practically stole my girly's pieces. I had a beef flank rolled around churizo and slow cooked. Girly just about stole anything she could out of my plate because she could not figure out which was better...My answer...her fish but by a tiny amount We shared our sides...Black beans and rice which sounds simple but not at ALL in the hands of these people. The friend plantains were as good or better than what I had growing up in New Mexico. I saved the leftovers for breakfast with eggs, bacon and toast and it rocked our worlds. We will tell more as we try it. It's just that good.. Just do me a favor...eat there. mention Bobby and maybe they will adopt me and I can learn all this wonderfulness for myself. Pwease??

Tied with the Grocery for best Cuban sandwich in the area, this little cafe puts out a really good product. The other items are also very good, but the menu is a bit short.

I can't believe this place has been here for 17 years and I never knew about it! BEST CUBAN FOOD IN ALL OF NOLA!

  • Patrick H.

While in New Orleans for business, a colleague suggested Churros' for a classic Cubano sandwich. Though located in a non-descript strip mall just off Veterans' Highway, it delivered the goods! I've been spoiled by the Cuban sandwiches here at my favorite haunt in Atlanta, but this one sidled up and hip-checked it. So very good, and the next time I'm in the Crescent City, don't try to keep me away from it.

Cuban sandwich was the best I have found so far in the city. The guy that took our order (I am guessing it was the owner) could have been friendlier and at least pretended he was happy we were there spending money, but will overlook the surly service as part of the charm b/c the sandwich was tasty.

  • Dennis G.

The first two times I tried to go to Churros they were closed despite it being during some peak dinning hours. I decided to give them one more shot and went there with my girl. Luckily this time they were open. We each had the cubano. It may be clichéd, but why do to a Cuban restaurant if you're not going to order the cubano at least once. The sandwiches were excellent and deceptively big. Being sliced along that diagonal makes them look smaller than they are and they are quite filling. We decided to finish our meal with an order of fried plantains, which were just the right sweet note for a light desert.

This place has some good ass hot pressed sandwiches! The cuban & the ropa vieja are the best! The rope vieja is shredded flank slow cooked in tomato sauce with onions....they add shredded lettuce, tomatoes & mayo to it. I love the black beans & the yuca con mojo! Churros is a small cafe near Clearview Mall...a must try!

There is no such thing as a light lunch in or around NOLA, not when you're on vacation at least. But who's really complaining when the lunch specials are this good and generous? The Churros Cafe daily special was chicken and rice. They did not skimp on the chicken. Or the rice. Seriously, there were two full servings of rice on my plate. Did I have to eat all of it right then and there? No. Did I do it anyway? Yes. Hell, yes. It was so perfectly moist and fluffy and flavorful...it's the Filipino in me who simply can't resist OD-ing on rice. The chicken was pretty good too, especially sprinkled with some of their homemade hot sauce. They actually have a variety of hot sauces that you obtain from the shelf on the wall, along with utensils, napkins and other condiments. The plantains that came with my dish were also perfectly cooked - there was a slight crispness on the outside, and all the yummy softness inside. I took a bite out of my fiance's choripan sandwich, which resembled a Cuban, and almost wished I had ordered that. The pork and the cheese in the pressed sandwich was devilishly delicious. But then I wouldn't have had plantains. Or rice. The mango shake I ordered helped to wash it all down. For all that food and a shake, I spent less than $13. Lunch may not have been light on my stomach, but at least it was light on my wallet.

This place is now an ICON in Metairie because it's been so consistent for so long. The pressed sandwiches are what we usually get... along with guacamole and the plantains, done perfectly. Specifically I get the turkey & swiss dressed on Sugar Buster bread with a diet coke. Many customers appear to be Latin and are ordering coffees, churros, etc. There is a big round table that is "Reserved for the Cuban Mafia". To order stand at the counter and check out the pink menus. There is a special every day and I have tried them a few times, but it's not my thing. On the other hand the soups are really good: black bean, chicken or beef. They serve liquor now. Been eating there for 10 years.

Second time was even better than the first. This time for dinner & one of the best dinners i have had in months. Definition of a down home meal. I felt like i was at my buddy Alfredo Sanchez's parents house. So authentic with so much TLC put in every dish. Everything is made to order. The two ladies who acted as waitresses were epic and exactly what i look for from my servers/waitresses. She took control of the meal and really cared about the outcome.....I loved it! (Repeat: It was one of the best meals i have had this year which if you follow my reviews, means a lot!) We started with a cuban sandwich which has to be the best in the city. Then to the ropa vieja which was extremely flavorful and juicey...every bight let out a burst of marinade which must have been based around some sort of beer. The arroz con gris was excellent and the yucas were also very interesting. Our waitress comp'd the spanish beignet dessert aka churros and it put my friends and i into the classic food coma. LOVED IT!

Good Cuban food. According to their menu they are "Serving the Best Cuban Food". People love their cuban sandwich, and the cuban here is probably one of the most authentic you'll find around town. Personally, I like their daily special platter options better. They have a different special every day, and if you go in they have additional ones on the board to choose from. The whole experience is very authentic, from the decor of the restaurant to the made-to-order meals, you'll feel like the homeyness of this little Cuban cafe. Don't forget to end your meal with the churros! Casey B. - you know Alfredo Sanchez too?

Small, cute restaurant. Owner is nice, but grumpy. He claims to have THE best Cuban. I liked it, but it was definitely lacking on pork...if you like a very hammy cubano, then this is your place. I liked the flan. Will not be back for the cubano though... THE BEST is from Norma's Bakery in Kenner. I want to come back for the weekday specials. Will report back when I do!
