I was on my way to Office depot for some type A retail therapy and cruised past this little market of international goodness. I pulled a U'ey and stumbled into not only a variety of international food stuffs, but also a nice little selection of daily prepared Mediterranean delights. Fava beans! Yummy looking biscuits from far off lands! Magical tea! Bricks of Kasseri! Gallon jars of Olek Sambal! Oh and my Schwarma salad was SOOOO good. I apparently decided to show up on the day where they were serving perfectly marinated and moistest chicken...huzzah! JeAnne

$14 for a chicken shawarma plate with a bottle of water. The chicken was great. Salad was okay. Hummus was great. Tzartziki was pretty bad. Plate came with one piece of pita bread. This place won't even come close to holding me over until Roman's Greek Express gets things going again.

Byblos Market is the grocery/restaurant hybrid of the chain of Mediterranean restaurants in the the New Orleans area of the same name. I figured this location would be a grocery store with a small counter in the back for take-out, but there was quite a few tables of seating. As a first timer, I was a little taken aback when I walked up to the counter and was not acknowledged. Luckily, I spotted the menu taped to the counter and was able to look over it. I realized that orders were being placed at the register and as I was walking away, it was at that point, the guy at the food counter finally asked me what I was ordering. Towards the end, they warmed up a little bit but unless you speak their language, you will feel ignore because they barely look up and talk in native tongue amongst themselves. Ultimately, I took the Chicken Shawarma entree I ordered to go. The dish came with a Salad, Rice Pilaf, Hummus and Pita Bread. The price may have swayed me opinion a little bit, but I was pleased by the quality of the chicken which was flavorful and very tender all white meat. The salad was good but I wish it had olives, the Rice Pilaf was so-so (it was like eating plain white rice) but the quality was good and the hummus was delicious and creamy smooth. If you don't want to take my word, I will say that the place was pretty full during lunch and with people of Mediterranean decent so that speaks for something.

Items are either high priced or not priced. If you like 3 dollar sodas bon apetit.

repeatedly OVERCHARGED. I wondered why my bill always seemed higher than the prices on the menu. I watched closely tonight as the owner charged me 8.99 (platter price) for the 7.59 sandwich. I asked without making a big deal, "hey, that's the sandwich?" yep. This isn't the first time I'm pretty sure. I won't be back. That's cheating. WATCH YOUR BILL if you go here, they will overcharge on purpose. I had caught them previously overcharging for labne and made them correct it. I will not return. Shame on thieves and cheaters.

Meh. It wasn't horrible and the prices are cheap. $8 for a Gyro and it comes with a salad and hummus. The meat was dripping grease. The salad was wilted. The hummus was bland.

Authentic Lebanese. Great kibbeh, tabouleh, and hummus. Favorite medditeranean food in the city.

The guys that own the place are cool as hell and they serve up some tasty stuff. I love the hummus and manouche. They have a nice little market of imported goods, lebanese/middle eastern/greek/italian), wine, a small amount of fresh produce, and all kinds of yummy stuff to try. Convenient street parking...I'm always able to pull up right in front of the market without a worry or hassle.

The staff are very nice and the food is always good. My girlfriend and I eat here often when we are in Metairie. Best prices on olives anywhere.

This is the same food you can get at the Byblos restaurants for a cheaper price and larger portions. Some of the food certainly gets up to four stars but on average it is about a three star place. It is also a market that has all sorts of interesting middle eastern grocery items that you can't really find anywhere else in the area. It is like a cafeteria style dining arrangement where you order your food or you can choose things from the hot plates. Most of the things I've gotten from the hot plates haven't been as good as in the restaurant so I usually go for one of the plate specials and those are almost always good. The stuffed lamb plate was one special that I didn't care for as it was just lamb mixed with a bunch of rice and I missed my salad and hummus that comes with most of the other plate specials. You get a lot of food here so it is a great value and an easy place for a quick lunch. It is also right next to the Black & Gold store so you can grab some Saints gear and get ready for the game before or after lunch!!!

$10-12 bucks gets you a full plate of shwarma. This is my shwarma joint. Been coming here for years. Chicken can be inconsistent sometimes, otherwise, it's tight. They've got tv's and don't forget the grocery in case you want to get your all your Mediterranean goods.

I love me some Byblos Market. This place is extremely close to my house and work, and the food is the bomb. It's not quite as good as Byblos the restaurant, hence the 4 stars, but it is for sure the finest choice for Greek food in the immediate vets/causeway area. I usually get the chicken shawarma salad. It is so ridic good, I can't even tell you. They use the freshest feta cheese, just the right amount of dressing, it's massive, and the chicken is cut off the spit thingy right before your eyes and has the most fantastic charred yumminess ever. Ky often gets the gyro salad (equally yummy), but he recently got the lamb shank plate. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW KICK ASS THAT MEAT WAS. It was falling off the bone and so supremely seasoned you just would not believe. The dolmades are also very good and the hummus is perfect. I have not had the baba ganoush, but I assume it is every bit as good as the hummus. They have SO many choices lined up cafeteria style, it's almost overwhelming. If I was ever able to quit that salad, I would, and I would love to try just a little bit of everything. It may take several hours and cost a pretty penny, but that sort of food orgy just may be worth the time and inevitable 5-20 pound weight gain. Before I conclude, I also want to point out that the owners/purveyors are super, super nice and they certainly recognize and love their regulars. You can't always understand them because they are Greek as all F*CK, but they sure are cool dudes.

Big fan of this place. Good portions for a decent price! I've only had the chicken shawarma here and it's been pretty tasty. Flavorful, chicken is rotated on a spit! Yum!

Do not confuse Byblos Market on Veterans with the two other Byblos Cafe locations on Metairie Road and Magazine Street. Although they are related somehow, they are completely different dining experiences. This review is only about Byblos Market on Veterans. I'm going to let you in on a little "secret" (it might not be secret, but I typically don't notice other diners eating the same food as me). When you walk up to the counter to order food there is nondescript chalk board on the right. It is easily overlooked and it has the "specials" of the day scribbled in faded chalk. This chalk board, not the regular menu, is where I always order my food. Some things are standard, like chicken kabob, beef kabob, and lentil soup. All of them are well prepared, and the kabobs made to order (so you might have to wait a few minutes why its grilled), and they are seasoned with flavors beyond description. Just these two kabob dishes merits a four star rating in and of themselves. Other "off menu" items include the half chicken, which is marinated and cooked on a rotisserie, served with rice and a delicious sauce. The "stuffed lamb" is a healthy portion of tender lamb meat atop rice with exotic seasonings and spices. The baked kefta is akin to hamburger patty spiced with cumin, parsley, and other Middle Eastern spices, and typically baked in a tagine with vegetables. This is only a partial list of the food items on Byblos Market's chalk board specials. To find out what today's special is just give them a call. This is a great place for a quick, healthy, and fresh bite to eat. The menu at Byblos Market offers all the typical Greek & Lebanese fare: chicken Shawarma sandwiches and salads, gyros, hummus, etc., both white and wheat pita bread, and a wide array of vegetables and desserts. In all honesty, you can't really go wrong here. A few notes on the ambiance, the food is ordered at a counter, you pay at a counter, and wait for your number to be called. It is all self serve and there is no wait staff. The front of the restaurant is an actual market stocked with broad spectrum of ethnic foods and groceries.

This is just for the "restaurant" part. Stopped in there for lunch yesterday and ordered the Shawarma on pita and some felafels for an appetizer. The guy behind the counter seemed to be having a bad day. He was surly and mumbled everything. The shawarma took about 10 minutes to get even though there was only me and one other person in the place. The chicken was dried out and the salad seemed gritty. Not sure if that was a spice they had in the dressing or the just didn't wash it very well. After I had finished I had to wait another 10 minuted for the felafel appetizer. Maybe I am confused as to what part of a meal the appetizer is supposed to be. *shrug* When I finally got them they were horrible. I've never had worse ones in this city. How bad were they? I threw them away. Can you imagine how bad something has to be for a fat man to throw it away? It was gritty and grainy and an off orange/brown color and there was nothing fresh about them. Nope. I may go to the grocery section in the future but I won't be eating there ever again.

Authentic Mediterranean food. The chicken shawarma was delicious, tasty and moist. Lamb gyro was basic but perfect and i love the $1 baklava. Super casual dining area and The market has unique items at reasonable prices. Friendly service

I adore this place. The food is good, freshly prepared, and very reasonably priced. Plus you get to pick up some interesting international candy bars, cookies, sodas and sweets made with real sugar instead of that crappy corn syrup they pump into all the American treats. The staff only seems cranky at first - it's just their way. Gyros are always good, you can order gyro meat by the pound too. I nearly always get the vegetarian plate (I'm not a vegetarian, I just like what's on the plate - you choose from options like hummus, tabouli, baba ghanouj, spanikopita, grape leaves, falafel, etc.) On this particular visit, the spanilkopita was awful, the phyllo dough was rubbery and dry. Everything else was delightful, and they comp'd us some baklava and other desserts. We hadn't been in about 2 years, but they remembered us from when we lived nearby and went frequently. Just perfect for a quick, yummy, inexpensive lunch. (Or for takeout)

Good for some quick, counter service Mediterranean food in Metairie. They also have a decent selection of packaged international foods. The daily specials are always really good.

Food is great. What you'd expect to get at one of the fine Byblo's restaurants but less expensive and deli - style so its fast. Problem here is the staff/management/owner whatever. They say that they close for 9:00p.m. but on my last two visits they were closed well before 9:00. Granted on one of these attempts was at 8:40p.m. so I understand closing up a little early from time to time especially on a slow night. However, when all of your marketing, websites, and signage says that you close at 9:00pm it annoys the hell out of me that when my wife, son and I arrive at 7:50 for food and the deli is closed. There was one staff member in the whole place when we walked in, walked to the deli counter looked around and walked out and he never so much as told us that they were closed. He only stared at us with a "what the hell are you doing here?" kid of look so we left. Not sure if I'll go back or not since after all.....who knows when they're open and when they're closed? Get it together.

The Byblos Market is more than an international market but they also have a cafe in the market. It by no means fancy or really a great date type of place but the food is always solid. It's a great lunch place or for a real casual dinner. Also great for take out. I just got a Combination Shawarma plate which came with both chicken & gyro meat, salad, rice and hummos for under $10! They also have pretty good stuffed grape leaves (both meat and meatless). They also have gyro and all of the other things you would expect from Mediterranean resturant.

Whether you go to Byblos Market (and wonder if you're even in the right place because it looks like a grocery store) or the mall's food stand, you cannot go wrong! I love Byblos for fresh, juicy, delicious Greek cuisine. After you eat their hummus, you will never want the store bought kind again (like Sabra). I especially like Byblos in comparison to Albasha in Metairie because I feel like it's busier, which means food is being made more often and it seems fresher. Albasha is always dead when I go, and I often wonder how long ago the schwarma or hummus was made. I could be wrong though; it's just my perception based on feeling like Byblos is fresher. No complaints at all... and I've been to both locations at least 5 times this year.

My wife and I came here to eat. We were referred by a friend of ours. so happy we came! The food is delicious, and the man that fixes the food is very polite. We felt like we were eating at a good friends home. Highly recommended!

For some reason, I crave Greek when I'm on the road for work. My rep brought me here for the first time last year, and I've been back a number of times since. I usually get the same thing, Gyro platter, which comes with Hummus, rice, chicken and lamb, Greek salad, and a pita. I'm stuffed afterward if I finish it off. Sometimes I throw in an order of falafel too, and just eat half of the order. The falafel is also very good. If I was local, I could see myself eating here regularly.

I had Middle Eastern food on the brain and Lebanon's is my usual spot... but, alas, I was at work, which is too far to get there and back in a reasonable amount of time. Then I remembered Byblos Market, which is down the street from my office. I've eaten at the restaurant on Magazine and thought it was ok, so decided to give it a try. I went in not knowing quite what to expect. They have a few aisles of groceries and some refrigerated items. Then, they have a long deli counter with and several spits of roasted meat behind the counter. Oh yeah. I decided to order off the menu and got a a falafel appetizer and the chicken shawarma plate to go. I picked up some olive oil, Jordan almonds and halloumi cheese while I waited on my food, which took all of about 5 minutes. I paid and took everything back to work. Oh my moussaka... it was FANTASTIC. I'm uploading a picture of my box of food with all it's deliciousness. My coworkers flocked to me wanting to know what smelled so good. It was a ton of food, I barely made a dent in it. I haven't had falafel in forever, I had almost forgotten just how much I love it. The appetizer came with four balls, a piece of pita and some tzatziki sauce. Next time I'm going to just get the falafel pita. The shawarma was tender and delicious, it was served on top of a bed of basmati rice pilaf. The hummus was smooth and tasty. And there was a salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing and some of the best feta I've ever had. I still can't get over how good everything was. And the prices were very reasonable on both the prepared food and the groceries. The men working the counter were helpful and friendly. Byblos Market is definitely going into my regular rotation.

This is a great option to the typical fast food fare you will find along Veterans. I run in and grab my take out in minutes... The chicken Shawarma is great..I like the combo plate. Personally, I am not a fan of Garbanazo/chick peas and I won't eat Hummus. Mike and the rest of the guys just substitute extra salad for me and I am good to go. Additionally, I love love love the Khafta kabob that they often serve as a special. Gotta have a lot of that garlic condiment they serve on the side...good thing I don't have a girlfriend right now..haha..but it sure does taste good! The staff is friendly and I greet them with a Marhaba(Hello) when I walk in. Every so often I try and pick up another new Arabic word from them but unfortunately this economy has been stinking so bad and I have not been in as much despite their very reasonable prices..I just talked myself into stopping in next week for lunch! See ya there!

These guys are the best, always friendly (they remember the frequent visitors) and the food is soo great without the fussiness of the restaurant. Excellent for a good quality meal to go. The market is insane and has just about everything in international foods you can ask for. Their hummus is the best in the city I always get extra and pita to go. A must try is their garlic paste. intense garlicy awesomeness! no highchairs for small kids (wish they would get them!)
