I am in love. Why are proper taco's so hard to find? I searched a high and low to find a little authentic Mexican place that puts meat, onion and cilantro on a pair of corn tortilla. And El Paso does just that. I ordered four tacos for $2 each; chicharones (belly), lengua (tongue), chorizo, and cabeza (head). I also ordered the ceviche. All that taco's were delightful. The ceviche was in a tomato sauce, not my thing. I prefer it less tomato. They also have menudo and horchata, I will be back to try those.

Very good, very authentic Mexican and Central American fare. Very friendly family run establishment. It's worth the trip to try. The Spanish language karaoke adds some entertaining ambiance. I've tried something different everytime we go and haven't had a bad meal yet!

This is my actual favorite restaurant in Louisiana. My boyfriend and I come here at the very least once every other week. We've gone twice in a week on multiple occasions. We just can't get enough!!!! It's a family owned, family run authentic Mexican restaurant with a lot of character. The tacos are so SO good. Softest corn tortillas ever, and they never break! Their homemade sauces are actually TO DIE FOR!!!! I love the red sauce most. I actually use the take out containers of sauce to fill up a bottle I use at home on everything I eat, that's how much I love the sauce! During the day they have tvs with Spanish game shows, soap operas, and funny reality shows playing. At night they play great music and turn on fun colorful lights. I order their food for delivery often and they're very quick. Sometimes when you call, you'll be put on hold to speak to someone who speaks English. But for the most part, everyone speaks English except maybe two people. The family is extremely kind and pleasant. We come in so often that there's a lot of "How have you been?" and "See you again soon!" It's just an all-around great spot for great tasting authentic Mexican food you won't be able to forget! Can't speak of them highly enough!

Honestly wishing I would've found this place years ago! Best traditional Mexican food I've had in NOLA hands down. Don't be scared off by the decor, just sit down, eat and thank me later.

Amazing!!!! I don't speak Spanish which is the only thing that would've made the experience here better. Apparently no one here speaks much English, food they say is an international language: I'll tell one thing for sure they speak delicious here. The Beef Soup and a couple Tacos is what I had, the wife had the Chile rellenos, my son had the steak quesadillas steak and my youngest daughter had the fajitas, we all lived it and left this humble establishment in peaceful bliss created by virtue of food comas.

Best Menudo I've found in Louisiana! We always end up coming back here for our Mexican fix. Staff is friendly and service is fast. The only reason why i gave 4 stars instead of 5 its the noise. So lately we have been just ordering for take out. But overall, most authentic mexican food I've tasted since my mom's cooking.

I've waited long to find a place in New Orleans that cooks Mexican food that tastes authentic. This is the place! I had a beef stew (caldo de res), and it tasted just like the ones I've had in Mexico. However, other than the tasty food, don't expect much from the restaurant experience. The service is horrible. No one greets you and the waiter has no personality or customer experience. Furthermore, the food is way overpriced. The prices on the menu are not accurate, the food costs more than the stated price. An average size stew is $11.00. An average price of carne asada with beans and rice is $12.00. An agua de horchata is $4.00. Although the food tastes authentic, the experience and the prices are not worth it. No complementary chips and salsa is served.

Eating at this place makes me wonder- if people eat like this in Mexico; why come to the United States? Clean place with great native feel (they had fútbol on one screen and a telenovela on the other) with excellent cheerful service(our waitress decided the combinations of meat with tacos with sopes with gorditas upon us deciding we wanted to try six kinds of meat), and two of the most incredible hot sauces I ever tasted. I would say stick to the a la carte/tapas orders, grabbing a varied selection of tacos, sopes and gorditas. If one goes to El Paso one MUST get the cabeza taco, possibly one of the most flavorful beef dishes on the menu. All in all, perhaps the best all around experience I have had in a Mexican restaurant in the New Orleans area- not to be missed. The place definitely beats its numerous neighbors.

I love coming to El Paso! This restaurant is very authentic in comparison to other restaurants I have visited in New Orleans. I highly recommended. I love to get the shrimp soup -- caldo de camaron. Service is great. Never had a complaint about the food at all in my two years going there.

Authentic Mexican food. Take everyone else's advice and order a la cart items. I got three different tacos. Chicken, steak and pork carnitas. The pork was a little dry and chewy but the steak and chicken was delicious. The sauces that came with it were very tasty.

Go to El Paso for delicious authentic Mexican food. It made us feel we were in Mexico. The restaurant is unpretentious and small, but the food is great, real Mexican, (not Tex-Mex). My partner ordered 4 tacos with 4 different fillings, pork, steak, chicken and chorizo (sausage). His favorite was chorizo. Two other choices were head and tongue. The fillings were wrapped in soft corn tortillas and served with 2 types of hot sauce. I ordered chile rellenos, battered and cheese stuffed peppers that were filled and topped with Mexican cheeses, (not Velvetta or Kraft cheddar cheese). I rate the food 5 stars, but the down side was the noise. There were 3 TV screens, all showing different Mexican soap operas plus a radio blaring Mexican music with commercials. Because the loud TV and radio noises were annoying and distracting, I rate the restaurant 4 stars. We would definitely return for the food and hopefully sit at a less noisy table.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
