Never had a fajita that just sat in a quarter inch of grease!!!! YUCK!!!! When I asked the server if this was right he just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. Fajitas are supposed to sizzle on the plate not sit in oil!!!!! Chips and salsa were OK. I will NOT return.

Real Hacienda delivers with good food at good prices. The service was great and the restaurant was very clean. A large menu with a variety of choices, not just the same few items arranged differently as is the case in other Mexican restaurants. Eclectic folk art adorns the entrance. The dining room is large if a little dark.

Real Hacienda may look like a typical chain Mexican restaurant, but looks are deceiving. It's a local restaurant in Owensboro with a large menu offering a wide variety of dishes. The chips are always hot, and the salsa always fresh. My favorite dish is the spicy chicken chimichanga covered in queso with rice, beans, sour cream, and homemade guacamole and pico de gallo-Yum! The portion is more than enough, and will leave you feeling satisfied. The other dish I really enjoy, and my husband most often orders, is the Fajitas Especial de Real Hacienda, their special of shrimp, chicken, steak, and chorizo sautéed in spices, onions, and peppers and served on the skillet they're cooked in. It also comes with hot tortillas, beans, rice, guac, and pico de gallo. It is HUGE and super tasty! Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but they make up for it with their friendliness and the amazing food.

I suppose I have eaten at Real Hacienda Restaurant in Owensboro more than any other restaurant. Not surprising since I love Mexican food and Real Hacienda delivers quality Mexican cuisine consistently in both of their Owensboro locations. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes from your basic beef tacos, burritos, beans and rice to unique items such as Armando's Pizza. Real Hacienda is a very popular restaurant and can test their friendly staff there at times, however they offer free chips and salsa for you to enjoy while you wait on your order. But don't eat too many, because the portions are large and you are going to want to have room to eat it all. If you have met the owners, the Ortiz family, then you know they are about as good a people you will ever meet. Owensboro is blessed to have them. If you are in Owensboro and craving Mexican food, you need to check out Real Hacienda. It is as good as it gets!

My husband and I fell in love with this place right after they brought our margaritas and chips/salsa!! We made the "mistake" of ordering a large margarita, which just happened to be about a 32 ouncer!! HOLY MOSES!!! Note to self: when ordering margaritas here, you only need a small! We loved the chips and salsa. Warm and crispy chips always hit the spot and the salsa flavor was great! We ordered the Lenten special which was 2 fish tacos with rice. Minus the fact they brought the tacos in a flour tortilla, rather than the corn that we had asked for, the dinner was lovely. The fish was full of flavor and crispy on the outside with a good amount of pico de gallo and cabbage served over the top. Overall we were pleasantly surprised. Our server was most excellent, speaking to us in broken spanglish which was most epic after moving here from Tucson and not hearing a word of it. Had it not been for the 38 degree blast of cold walking out the door to head for the car, I would have thought we were back in Tucson! We shall return!

Real Hacienda is the best of the Mexican restaurants in Owensboro. I cannot decide which is better, this location or the highway 54 location. I like that the 54 location has a patio section, granted it's pretty much in the parking lot. This restaurant is located oddly enough in an old ChiChis building. The staff is usually pretty friendly here, they can sometimes seemed rushed. The menu has the usual americanized Mexican food. Some of my favorites to order are the burrito gigantic, a HUGE burrito that you'll have a hard time to finishing. The nachos supreme is great, topped with cheese, chicken & other toppings. Eat it fast of the chips will get a little squishy. Tacos al pastor are yummy, a great selection if you like spicy food. The fried ice cream is also great if you're just wanting to pig out. The margaritas are your run of the mill Mexican restaurant ones, but they're strong for the price. The chips & salsa are usually pretty good. They're usually served hot, but recently they've been room temperature which can be a bummer to me. The salsa always tastes fresh though. They're also very attentive in bringing over new chips & salsa. Once you get your food, which doesn't take very long, the servers are usually scarce, not checking back as much as at a normal restaurant. Overall, Real Hacienda is an Owensboro classic to me. I cannot tell you how many times I've ate at these restaurants. I've only had handful of bad experiences that don't outweigh all the good. If you're looking to feed your Mexican craving, this is the place.

Best Mexican in Owensboro, other than that it serves all of the same fares as any other Mexican joint

As authentic as you can get in this area. Pros: Food is delicious Servers all very friendly and attentive Good lunch plate variety Reasonable price Large portions Cons: Chips were stale :/ Building is kind of run down so their fountain had "wet floor" markings all around it & bathrooms have an old/heavy cleaner smell

Price 4 stars Food 4 stars Ambiance 3 stars Service 3 stars I have eaten here at least a dozen times. Food is good and quantity is big (always leftovers). Price are very reasonable (small draft beer less than $2). Service is relatively fast wait staff not overly pleasant but efficient. Mexican themed decor. Best Mexican in OB in my opinion.

Coming from Texas, I know what good Mexican food is. While visiting my BFF for the weekend, she brought us here for dinner. Good: Large menu with a lot of variety Good chips and salsa (spicy, but could have been a bit spicier) Large portions Bad: Terrible service (waiter rarely checked on us) VERY weak drinks (huge 32 oz margarita with ZERO alcohol in it ... May as well drank a slushee ... I only drank half because it was a terrible drink. Food just tasted ok ... I had the chimichanga and the beef and chicken were tender, but could have used more shrimp ... Everyone at my table, who are used to Mexican in Texas all said the food was ok, but not memorable ... The cheese was a queso blanco, which was ok, but not great. I guess for the area, this will suffice for Mexican food, since I am not familiar with the other options in the area.

Pretty happy with this place, I would spice up the food a little and get some chili verde dishes going but that is just me. We are not from OB relocated for Business, this is one of our favorites for Mexican, when we cant get down to Nashville. It makes the other place in town we call el terible look really bad.

This place is an Owensboro staple! No better Mexican restaurant within 60 miles. My top dishes are: * Arroz Con Pollo * Burrito Gigante * Grilled Chicken Nachos Friendly staff, great food, awesome environment! You'll certainly enjoy your visit!

I absolutely LOVE the two Real Hacienda's in Owensboro. They are both so good! I've never had bad food at either. I always get the Chicken Chimichanga with beans/rice and the queso dip. Mmmm so good. Great service usually too!

Cheap Mexican food in a beautiful restaurant. We both had combination dinners featuring the ground beef. Two out of three of our tacos fell apart and tasted of very low quality beef. My mini chicken enchilada had stringy meat and little flavor. The chile con queso (a tortilla with ground meat and cheese on top) was just gross. I didn't like the salsa but my husband did. He was supposed to get a chalupa but they gave him a veggie tostada. However, the service was excellent, the cheese sauce (for dipping chips) was good, the decor was gorgeous (including a tile sink and folk statues out front), and we had huge portions all for under $25 including tip and tax. But we both felt sick to our stomachs afterwards from the cheap quality of the meat. Maybe it'd be better if we went with expensive items from the menu like the fajitas. I don't know.

Great service. Great food, had the fajitas. Ate 2 and asked for more shells. Made 4 to go. Margaritas were decent, a little weak for my taste. Very reasonably priced. Ole'!

Owensboro doesn't have much to offer food-wise. Or at all. But Real Hacienda is decent, especially compared to the endless slew of national chain restaurants which seem to make up the entire city. Still, their food was rather bland. Their beans were watery, and the food seemed haphazardly thrown together. The salsa was okay, but not really noteworthy. I left full, but somewhat disappointed. The decorations were interesting, if kitschy, but they were a welcome spot of uniqueness in Owensboro. Service was just okay. For Owensboro, I'd give it four stars, but for the rest of the world, I have to give Real Hacienda three stars.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
