Good food. The beer list was put together by someone who knows beer.

This Bistro is so inviting with a artsy flare and cool tunes from 60's and 70's. The service is friendly and timely. This continues to be our favorite place to share a meal. The sandwiches and salads are gigantic. Upon arrival fresh bread and dipping oil are offered. Both menus are packed. My favorite is the lunch menu. The Italnio sandwich is amazing. If your in Owensboro and looking for the perfect place for a relaxing meal, this is the place to go!

Great food! My daughter, who never likes tomato sauce on pasta, loved it here. The pasta was fresh, service excellent, and the ek mek (Albania/N. Greece desert) was wonderful!

Seriously amazing food! Seriously amazing service! This has been a favorite spot for my husband and I for a few years now. Definitely a hidden treasure. Everything I've had here has been wonderful- the greek salad, bleu cheese wedge salad, trattoria, any special my husband has gotten. We just love it. Only downfall? The prices are a little steep, understandably since they only use quality ingredients, but still. We only get to visit on very special occasions. However, the food and experience is absolutely worth it for those special times!

Great beer selection. I had the Italiano Grinder and it was great! The other two in the party ordered and loved Greek items that I can't spell. Christine is a real sweetheart! Also a great place to chill in the outside seating with a drink and watch the world walk/drive by!

  • L H.

Delicious and great service with a very reasonable price! The server (who I suspect may have also been the owner) was attentive to me, even though I couldn't run up my bill with alcoholic drinks ( sometimes people don't save me as well when I'm pregnant). Sitting at the small bar was a treat to watch the cooks work their magic. Best artichoke dip I e ever had and the bourbon chicken was really great and veggies perfect!

This place was accommodating for someone with a gluten free allergy and being vegetarian. But sadly they didn't have very many options to choose from for me. So I got their salmon salad, without the salmon. It had all sorts of delicious things in it, even without the fish. And the dressing was fantastic. I wish they had more options, but I would give them another go!

Chicken marsala and chicken parm were great. Also had the bourbon filet, very nice.

The Famous Bistro is a one of a kind restaurant in Owensboro. No where else do you get the friendly service, amazing food, variety of great beers and wine, and an atmosphere that is comfortable and elegant at the same time. I love this place as a date night or casual restaurant. A must eat place for out of towners and locals alike. Touché Bistro, touché.

The Bistro is one of my favorite restaurants. The quality of food is amazing. My wife and I have frequented the Bistro and I've gotten to try a variety of dishes from their menu. I've never had anything that was short of excellent. The servers are extremely friendly and the service is always prompt. Sometimes the food takes a little longer to prepare (especially the gourmet pizzas) but it is well worth the wait. The freshness of the food definitely makes a difference. This is a hidden gem of "big city" gourmet in the small town of Owensboro. This place is a must stop if you're in town. The price can get a little steep (definitely on the high end of the $$) but again you can definitely taste where your money went. Worth every penny!

My new favorite restaurant! Great food great service and great atmosphere! We drove from evansville last weekend for my son's birthday. He wanted to go someplace new, and knew there are some great places in Owensboro. I am glad we chose this one.

I have been in Owensboro working for a few months now and still have a few places to try, but have also tried many. As someone spoiled with the restaurant scene in Minneapolis, I have to say that when it comes to fresh scratch cooking, originality, and a big city gastronomic experience Famous Bistro (along with Bill's) are the go-tos. The specials are always outstanding (try the lamb shank) and the baklava is the best this side My. Olympus. Can't say enough about this place, except that I wish they had San Pellegrino!

  • Lidia A.

Great little place right in the heart of downtown Owensboro. I walked along the waterfront from my hotel to get here last night. This is my second visit to Famous Bistro while visiting Owensboro. Both times Bernard has been an awesome server, super friendly and helpful. During my first visit, a few months back, I tried the hummus plate, Athena pizza and baklava- ALL were super Yummy and delicious. Last night I tried the Spanakopita (I think that's how you spell it) and for dessert I had the Ek Mek, which was absolutely delicious. They have an extensive selection of beers - which is fantastic.

  • Dean L.

Large selection of beer great food friendly service. I had a Greek side salad, it had a wonderfully creamy chunk of feta on it. Very nice. Then I had the bourbon glazed chicken. It came with oven roasted potatoes and broccoli. The broccoli was simple cooked perfectly and very lightly spiced. Loved it. Oven roasted potatoes were very good. The chicken was out standing. Very moist. Crispy coating with a glaze that was not over whelming, tasty not a sugary goo. Monday was also 1/2 price on the beers I had. Great Yelp find!

Incredible food! The bourbon sauce was outstanding, and the service was just as good.

Great little spot. I haven't been in a while, but my mother used to cook here and I would be in there all the time to bug her or to see the owners who were family friends. Eventually I got hooked on gyros and their Greek salads (yum!). Honestly, anything you order there is really very good. It does get a little crowded at times, but the servers do an excellent job of making sure everyone is taken care of and I have never seen anyone leave unhappy. The prices are a little higher for the area, but the food is made from quality ingredients, and you need to pay a premium for those. Otherwise, you should just head down the road to the dollar menu, amirite? Good people, great food. Stop in and Greek out.

This place is great, good find in OB. We are not locals, relocated for business, so we are checking out all the places and this one is one of our favorites. Brunch/Lunch dinner very good!!! We are dying to catch one of the Monday night special nights. You want to go to here.

From my experience, I think that Famous Bistro is the best place to eat dinner in Owensboro. It's fairly expensive, but the food is solid. I've had their fish, and it's well cooked and very fresh. As for apps - the shrimp and the spanakopika (I can't pronounce it to save my life) are good bets. The creme brulee is a great dessert. I like to think of it as a Greek/Italian/American hybrid. They call themselves international. Constantly changing specials and a rotating beer list also give them some additional street cred. The employees and owner are really nice and very pleasant to chat with, just be sure you're not in a rush :) it's not super fast.

We'll get to the food in a moment. First, the atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxing. The staff knows how to keep customers happy without overwhelming them with table visits every 5 minutes. Excellent musical ambiance too! I had the Egg's Benedict for their Saturday/Sunday brunch from 11am-2pm and won't be able to eat it anywhere else now that I know how tasty the Bistro's is. More than fair prices, especially for the quality and quantity you receive! Can't wait to come back and try something new!

In town on business. Happened upon Famous Bistro. Excellent food. Excellent overall experience. Our waiter Bernard was well informed, helpful and exceptional overall. This was one of my all time favorite dining surprises. Super relaxed casual environment where the food does all the talking. Greek Pork Chop, Orchard Chicken and Bourbon Chicken all come highly recommended by me and my dining partners.

The mushroo tart is awesome. Great Greek eat balls and spanikopita- not perfectly authentic but you wil love it!

We were recommended here by a roving bike cop. It was late, we shut the place down as a matter of fact, but the staff was still friendly and didn't rush us out. We expected mom & pop prices - it was higher than that, but the portions were generous and the food was very good.

One of my favs for lunch and dinner. Food is fresh and servers are attentive. Some nights they have 2 for 1 beers which is great since the menu is fairly expensive here. I always get fresh fish or ribeye. Haven't tried the filet but I'm sure its amazing. My girlfriend normally orders the chicken or a pasta dish. The pizzas are amazing as well. As are the grinders. I can't say enough good things.

I ate dinner here while on a business trip, and was very happy with that decision. The fettucine alfredo with grilled chicken was very good. The alfredo sauce was excellent, with a definite homemade flavor. The pasta was good. The chicken was a little too charred or crispy on the outside for my liking, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment. Salad and bread were also good. The menu had a number of other things I would like to try. My colleague ordered steak au poivre and said it was excellent. If you are looking for a nice alternative to the barbecue restaurants the area is noted for, this should be on your list. I will definitely return the next time I go there for business.

In town on business and found this jewel! Great food, good prices, wonderful evening. Italian/Greek/southern. Menu has great variety, good selection of craft beer and wine. I had an incredible blackened swordfish with fried blackeyed peas. Other folks in my party had crab stuffed filet, italian sausage, chicken marsala, and grilled eggplant...everybody was thoroughly impressed.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.
