Cute little coffee shop that had a decent menu for lunch. Did not get any coffee, but my husband and I split the gobbler panini. It was okay at best. I was wanting something light and healthy. The panini turned out to be quite greasy. The bean salad was good though! Service was lacking. Our waitress was in a horrendous mood....maybe just a bad day. It took a while to get our food...like 20-25 minutes which I thought was weird since it was a smaller joint and not too crowded. Oh well! Maybe worth trying once but I won't go back.

Disclaimer** This review is for sandwiches only...did not have coffee We stopped in for a late lunch, and while some of the menu items were out, the sandwiches we had were wonderful, with fresh veggie garnishes and a wonderful little salad. Would visit again.

Two stars only because the owner and employees are so kind and well-intended--but they have no clue about even the most basic aspects of coffee. I have consumed coffee coast to coast and in several foreign countries, from the cheapest to the most expensive--and Java Joint managed to produce the two worst lattes I have ever tasted in my life. I tried one one day, had to stay over in Bardstown another day, and thought the first one was an exception. It wasn't. The second was even worse. My daughter got brewed coffee; it was no less terrible. Watery lattes, stale and tasteless drip coffee, flavorless espresso. These people try hard and mean well but they simply do not know how to make coffee--this, in a town that desperately needs but does not have a coffee shop (a paucity which is likely the sole reason why this subpar shop survives).

This place is so awful, it is almost comedic. The first time we stopped, they were closed, even though their website said they were open. The next time (and last) they were open. We ordered two deli sandwiches and coffee drinks. I asked for a mocha. And was told their steaming wand was broken. She suggested iced, I agreed. She proceeded to get a jug out of the fridge and pour my drink from a store bought container!! Lol. No espresso shots. No mocha syrup. No handcrafted drink. My jaw hit the floor. She hands me this drink , that I could have gotten from a grocery store, like its perfectly normal. Apparently the espresso machine was broken, too. When I go to get a straw to drink this "awesome" beverage, I'm told there are no straws!!! But wait, it gets better.. We get our sandwiches.. I ordered a pimento cheese. It was multi-colored. Like a rainbow. My boyfriend's had avocados on it. They were so dark, I told him not to eat them. On the side was a lettuce leaf with a few dark red beans. Apparently it was supposed to be beans and rice. I overheard the girl ask the man what happened to the rice, and he said he accidentally sent it to the cleaners????!!! Jaw hanging open again. Where were we? Was this real?? Put this on "Places to Avoid" along with "Enter at your Own Peril"

This is my favorite place to eat in Bardstown. The muffy sandwich is amazing! My favorite thing is the side of beans that they give you.

Nice people, terrible coffee. The guy apologized for the espresso machine being down, however the drip coffee replacement tasted like hot tarry water. After my first sip, we walked across the street to Pat's for another go around.

The coffee was good & while we were disappointed that they didn't serve breakfast we were pleased to have a slice of the homemade peach bread that they served up.

I randomly stopped in for something to eat and I really enjoyed my meal. The menu is small but the dishes are done well. The ingredients are fresh and my meal tasted wonderful. If I am around the area again, I will for sure be returning. I cannot comment on the coffee since I didn't have any. And sadly I was too full to be able to try the pies.

They need to work on their coffee making skills. We like to support small, local businesses, but I don't suggest stopping here if you're only looking for coffee. Hopefully their food is good as other reviews have said. May try again next time we are in the area to see if the coffee is better.

The speciality coffee is hit and miss. I don't think they are all trained the same. Sometimes my caramel latte is really good but most of the time there is little flavor. I stopped going. I was tired of spending money on coffee that wasn't good every time I went in.

After visiting coffee shops in Nashville, good and bad, you begin to pick up... hints... that the experience you're going to have could be good or bad. When it's likely to be good, you've got staff talking to each other about the coffee, and sharing experiences on how to make various drinks, or you've got one of the managers/owners roasting coffee in the back, or you'll have a crowd in the place with nothing but coffee. Unfortunately, Java Joint in Bardstown reflected all signs that you'll have a bad coffee experience, and my experience was most certainly had one of the worst coffee experiences I'd ever had. First, there were teenage girls at the counter. There's nothing wrong with 19 year old girls: sometimes they're very pleasant young ladies, sometimes they're attractive young fillies, and sometimes they'll even chat with you because they're aware enough to know that the creepy thirty-something is trying to have a conversation with them is still a customer. All that said, teenage girls almost never have the awareness to concentrate hard enough to make good coffee (and they don't have the experience to be able to make espresso drinks without paying attention). Second, no one knew what the coffee was. Now, I don't expect every place to roast their own beans. Far from it. Plenty of places bring good roasts in and that's perfectly good enough for me. But not knowing what the beans are also means you don't know if it's a light roast or a dark, don't know the flavors involved, and have no pride in what they're serving. If the employees don't know anything about what they're making, it's like a short order cook not knowing the difference between different ice cream flavors and just dipping into whatever is in the freezer. Third, when I found out what the coffee was, I wished I hadn't: it was Royal Cup. Please understand, there's a difference between different beans and quality, and Royal Cup is what offices put in their break rooms just so they can claim with a straight face they offer coffee. It's tolerable, barely, in the office setting, but a coffee shop using it is a sign that they don't care what swill they'll serve you. Add it all together, and it's not hard to tell that I am far from being a fan of Java Joint. The coffee is awful. Terrible. Not undrinkable, but not far from it. If you want coffee in Bardstown, this is not the place to go.

Iced coffee and tea tasted delicious, and the owner was extremely helpful in guiding us to the right direction. Would definitely recommend.
