Great atmosphere and fantastic food. A really unique place. The only bad thing I have to say about The Village Anchor is that they are almost always packed but that's just a testament to how delicious their food is! It's defiantly worth the wait, but just to be safe, I'd make a reservation. Try the ell chili. Yum!

I have never had a bad experience here. The Sunday brunch is worth every penny. Love the dollar mimosas. Had the corned beef hash. The French toast is huge and can feed two. Service is courteous and quick. Felt very well taken care of. Just wish it was closer to downtown so I could go every week!

I have been here many times. The food is always great. Service is very attentive. Atmosphere is first class. Had the shrimp and grits tonight and it was amazing. All of my dinner companions loved their meals as well. The beer and wine selections are excellent. One of my favorite places in town!

I love The Village Anchor Pub & Roost! This place is so beautiful and the location, while a bit further out of our comfort zone than we travel on a regular basis, is wonderful. It's so peaceful and the actual restaurant and surrounding area is gorgeous. My favorite thing here is the Sunday brunch. Of course, breakfast/brunch is always my favorite; but, this spot has an amazing brunch menu! The Village Anchor French Toast is absolutely delicious and the Village Anchor Red-Velvet pancakes are out of this world. I almost can't bring myself to order anything else from the menu, because these pancakes are always calling my name! B's favorite brunch item is a BLT. If there's one on the menu in this city he's tried it. If you ask him what the best BLT in Louisville is he'll tell you it's The Village Anchor. And he's not wrong. The wheatberry bread is always toasted to crunchy perfection and the thick-cut Candied Anchor Bacon (which you can also order as a side with other meals) is perfection. The sandwich is also topped with chipotle aioli and avocado, making for an absolutely delicious meal. Plus, you get a side with it! I opt for the sweet potato fries with marshmallow crème. Absolutely decadent. The Village Anchor also has delicious lunch and dinner menus including too many items to list. A couple of my favorites are the green chili wontons, similar to those at Bristol that everyone loves, and the fish tacos. They also have a full bar that's absolutely beautiful, just like the rest of the place. There's another bar downstairs called the Sea Hag that's really great. They have awesome drink specials throughout the week, including a $1 mimosa during Sunday brunch; but, you have to sit downstairs to get that deal. Upstairs they'll run you $6, and it's the same champagne flute. I highly recommend The Village Anchor. We don't go often, because as I said it's a bit out of our way, but every time we make it out there it's totally worth the drive.

The Village Anchor was one of my "go to spots" for a perfect Hot Brown, cocktail and excellent service. Each and every time I have visited, the staff has made sure my visit was memorable. Yesterday was no exception, except my memorable experience was negative. While eating, a gentleman walked in with handgun exposed and long bullet clip in back pocket. Not knowing his intentions, I immediately became uncomfortable and spoke to the staff. The manager did visit my table and told me that someone "may" reach out to me if I would share my number. So far, no one has. Since when has it become normal for dining attire to include weapons that are specifically designed to kill? It is not normal behavior and not condoned by this patron, nor should it be by management. Until The Village Anchor posts a "no weapons allowed" sign, I will not return. I will also encourage all of my friends to avoid a reckless acceptance by it's owner and staff. As an educator in a part of town where gun tragedies tear families apart and a former member of the Israel Defense Forces, I will not accept this behavior as part of everyday life. Weapons are not fashion statements. Guns do not mix well with food and especially alcohol. Acceptance of this concealed carry law is nothing more than laziness, immaturity and social disfunction.

Clever cozy Atmosphere- Upscale yet approachable Menu- Easily among my favorite date joints. Lunch and brunch offerings are much more affordable, but the dinner menu always has knock out items Applewood Pork chops were to die for. Filet & biscuits at Brunch were lovely. Elk chili is killer.

Dining well-to-do families, mimosas, bloody marys and bloody harrys, paintings on the ceilings and crystal chandeliers in every corner of the room. The Village Anchor is a majorly popular brunch spot in Anchorage. The have umbrella-shaded outdoor seating or elegant indoor seating. Go downstairs to the Seahag for Saturday or Sunday brunch and you'll be able to order $1 mimosas. While it sounds rather ritzy, but it's more reminiscent of a 1900's mansion cabin. It's fun and kitschy -- your check will arrive inside of a corny harlequin romance novel. The staff is good natured and jovial -- especially if you sit in the bar. They'll chat you up while they serve drinks and the manager will wave hello to you as they pass. I had the ahi tuna salad. Anytime I see it on a menu, I'll order it to see how it measures up against other restaurants. While the tuna flavor, quality and cooking was excellent, the flavors in the salad didn't work together as well as I'd hoped for. It was meant to be Asian-inspired (judging from the ingredients) but It needed crunch and the fruit addition just didn't work. Between the mushy fruit and avocado, The salad was just not as balanced and flavorful as I was hoping for. However, the candied bacon in their breakfast dishes was FANTASTIC. The sweet and salty work together in a savory symphony, neither overpowering the other. The eggs were seasoned well but a teensy bit oily. The bread tasted fresh and made in house. It was excellent. The Strawberry jam was also wonderful. It can be very busy-- usually expect a wait to be seated and a rather long wait for food to arrive. Overall, it's a solid brunch spot and worth looking into if not just for the fun ambiance.

Thank you Yelp for reminding us of the Village Anchor. We had visitors from Pennsylvania and we wanted to showcase Kentucjy Southern food. We had them at sweet potato fries with marshmallow dipping sauce. After dinner, we went downstairs and impressed our guests further. We were all pleasantly fulfilled.

Every single item I tried was the bomb.com . I made a reservation because I knew it would be a long wait otherwise. They offer online reservations and call the day of to confirm with you. My party was seated immediately, and the staff was friendly. We ate outside but was not hot or uncomfortable because of the large ceiling fans. The food was top notch. Started with two appetizers: the deviled eggs 3 ways (oh my oh my) and shrimp wrapped bacon. I was on cloud 9 eating both of these. The eggs were creative - one was a buffalo style devil egg but nothing too creative that it took away from the fact it was a deviled egg. Shrimp wrapped bacon, I feel like that is self explanatory as to why it was little bits of heaven in my mouth. Followed those up with a house salad featuring their honey-walnut dressing. That dressing was perfect. Basically took what could have been a lame salad and turned it into a tasty treat. My entrée was the Bourbon Barrel Ale batter cod. I opted for the sautéed spinach instead of fries. Both were phenomenal. The portion was large, so I took half of it home. I cannot rave enough on their apple-raisin coleslaw. Everything had such a unique twist on Southern Comfort food. It was divine. I ended up sharing, you must share their desserts because the portion is massive, the chocolate chip bread pudding. It was warm and gooey. Everything there was worth the extra lbs. I left carrying on my body. I highly recommend this place.

Excellent brunch! I'm not always a huge brunch guy since I don't like eggs but this place hits the spot. If you sit outside at the Sea Hag covered tent you get $1 mimosas so you can't pass that up. The red velvet pancakes with the cream cheese icing are very tasty and the portion is so large I could only eat about 1/3 of them. I didn't feel too bad though since I saw a few others who barely made a dent. Two could easily split these. The candied bacon is a must try and just as interesting as it sounds, though too bad it's extra and doesn't come as a side with the pancakes. From what I could tell, portions of everything are huge so no nice looking but tiny portioned food here. This place is a must for brunch and I'd be interested to also come back and try them for lunch or dinner.

Pretty good upscale place. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the menu was better than most. The price here is high but your paying for a nice atmosphere, good service and food. Being a hot day I opted for the entrée size fried goat cheese salad and it was very well done. My wife had the shrimp and grits and although it wasn't the best she has ever had it was high on her list. All in all a very pleasant experience

I was not disappointed on my first visit to Village Anchor. Our party of four started with the Sweet Potato Fries and Deviled Eggs 3 ways--a great way to start. My companion then raved about the Apricot Bourbon Pork served with sauerkraut and corn pudding. He doesn't like sauerkraut as a rule but was pleasantly surprised with the fresh preparation. I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked and served with wild mushroom risotto and grilled asparagus which will make you a member of the Clean Plate Club. Our service was professional. We were seated on the patio which is a beautiful setting; however, the flies were a terrible distraction. It seemed odd to be enjoying such an elegant meal while swatting flies.

A very fun, delicious & cuisine driven place. The drinks & cocktails are great much like the food. I had the scallops with asparagus & a side a Brussel sprouts.

Loved the ambience here with paintings on the ceilings, a beautiful bar and outdoor patio seating. The food was phenomenal. Enjoyed the green chili wontons, shrimp and grits and fish and chips. Wonderful date night.

Wow. Wow. Wow. The Village Anchor is this magical little gem tucked away in a nook and cranny of the city. It has this adorable vintage-like exterior which is just so welcoming - you can't help but get excited when you're walking up the pebble - stone pathway! (I'm just a huge sucker for good aesthetics). It's such a happy place, but it is also very romantic. My boyfriend and I ate dinner at The Village Anchor for our date night and I couldn't have asked for a better setting. The interior was just as cute as the exterior, not to mention there was a crackling fireplace for our enjoyment. Also, something very nice was that the head manager walked around throughout the night, talking to each of the customers there. It was definitely pleasant to see that the customers were cared about and respected in such a way. Now, onto the food... The food was unlike anything from this planet...in the very best way possible. They had this extensive list of wine and it's not a bad price for a bottle. I highly recommend ordering wine with your dinner, especially if you're on a date night...another thing I recommend is the beer cheese and pretzel appetizer. The pretzel sticks were so soft and doughy and the beer cheese was just the right amount of flavor. You would probably be safe to order absolutely anything on the menu but if you're a seafood junkie like me then I suggest the Cast Iron Scallops. They come in this Vanilla-butter type sauce and the scallops practically melt in your mouth. The texture is good, the flavor is great and you will wish you had more of it to eat! For the caliber of food you're receiving the price is bearable and I believe you will bookmark it as one of your favorite romantic venues!!!!

Three years later and I didn't forget that tasty "hotter" brown and the stunning "old money" feel of Anchor Village's interior. Little did I know they also have a fantastic basement bar and patio. Our group of twelve found a perch on the patio and began a feast filled with fried green tomatoes, tasty bacon bloody Marys, fried chicken and of course, the "hotter" brown filled with chicken, parmesan gravy, chunks of bread and potato. Oh, the gluttony! Oh, the enjoyment! My only regret was not ordering a drink. After a day of distillery visits, I didn't have it in me. For those looking to brunch, I highly recommend checking out their offerings (think red velvet pancakes, hash and eggs, mimosas, and so on). In true Kentucky fashion, Anchor offers a decent bourbon menu. Lastly, if you're looking to just grab a drink, scope out the upstairs and basement bars - both are beautiful.

The Village Anchor is one of my favorite spots in Louisville. First and foremost, the food is the bomb. Brunch, lunch, and dinner - everything I've had has been great. No matter what, order the sweet potato fries as your side. They come with a marshmallow dipping sauce which is out of this world. I would happily live off this for the rest of my life. Also, the hot brown is one of the best in Louisville, and I have a hard time not ordering it every time. Another recommendation - the elk chili. There's plenty of delicious options on the menus to make everyone happy. The next thing that I absolutely love about The Village Anchor is the atmosphere. The restaurant is uniquely adorable, with multiple levels and homey decor. The decor is so welcoming and really makes you feel like you're at a neighborhood place. Visit The Village Anchor - you won't be disappointed!

I've been meaning to get over here for brunch for months now, and with my mother-in-law's birthday coming up, this was a great excuse to take her out. We were all pretty much sold on the $1 mimosas (I had three...oops...). While the indoor seating looked stunning, we sat outside at the Sea Hag to take advantage of the mimosa deal. My only complaint is that we were seated right in the sunlight, so it felt like we were suffocating with the heat lamps and the sun rays. But mimosas to the rescue... I ordered the biscuits and gravy and only ate about half of it (it was HUGE). Big props to the bonus bacon thrown inside. It was like a scavenger hunt trying to find those puppies. My husband got the biscuits with the filet mignon inside and I would love to order that next time. Especially since it comes with the side salad, which I've heard good things about. I loved how the receipts came out in old books. Really cute touch! We agreed we'll be back for dinner sometime, and I'd love to sit inside for that. I'll definitely update again when we do that.

I've only been here once, but I really liked it. I ordered a simple omelette with feta cheese and it was really tasty. However, after seeing my friend order the red velvet pancakes, I think I might try that the next time I go. One thing that a friend brought up was the bathroom, of all things. It was clean, but she was obsessed with the decor. :) On our way out, we all had to admire their feminine travel inspired ladies room. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars was our server. I don't know if she was having a bad day, but she wasn't very friendly and never came around for refills on our drinks . This won't keep me from coming back though.

Interesting place. The inside dining area has enough seats for 28. You will feel like you are dining with other patrons the tables are so close. If you dine outside make sure you go inside & look at the framed paintings on ceiling. They have three outside patios. The covered patio looks very nice and large. We dined on the inside. Mike had the meatloaf hamburger, coleslaw, and french fries. He said the coleslaw was the best thing. As you can see in the picture, it was made with purple cabbage, currents and raisins. The meatloaf burger did not have much flavor. I had the shrimp and grits. It was very different and delicious. The chocolate bread pudding pudding was a two thumbs up. Your check comes in a paperback book.

Decided to take wife our for a nice romantic dinner. Besides being a little on the loud side and close table space, the atmosphere was good. The spinach dip appetizer was delicious. The banana pudding desert was perfect. Only complaint would be with the main course. I was in the mood for a great steak. There was only one steak option, a filet so I was happy when I ordered- but the steak left me wanting more. The cut was perfect, the medium steak was cooked perfectly. The problem laid with the bourbon sauce. The sauce was watery, therefore taking most of the flavor from the steak. Overall, we will go back....just not on a night when I'm in a steak mood.

I recently visited the Village Anchor for the second time, and realized I'd never reviewed it after my first visit -- Elite fail! The silver lining is that I now have two different dining experiences to write about. My first visit was an early Saturday lunch. I was there with one other friend, and we enjoyed a quiet meal on the patio. Service was fast, and every bite of the food was perfect. On that visit, I got the House Salad and the Pulled Pork Soup. The ingredients were fresh, every bite was flavorful, and textures -- from the crisp crunch of the bacon and the lettuce to the smooth pulled pork -- hit just the right note. The most recent visit was an evening meal. We specifically visited that night as part of a fundraiser for nearby Summit Academy. I was with a larger party then, and the entire restaurant was alive with conversation, the tinkling of cutlery, and the wonderful aromas of great food. This meal started out with the spicy beef skewers and a side of spicy peanut sauce. Split between the table at this particular meal, this could easily be a delicious entree for one -- note to self for my next visit. Side note on this dish: there were cherry tomatoes served with skewers just as garnish, and I don't think I'm exaggerating to say they were the best cherry tomatoes I've ever had in my life. One bite and I was raving to the table (who initially made fun of me, until they tasted them as well). We actually liked them so much that we asked for a few more so everyone at the table could try (5 of us, only 3 tomatoes). Our cheerful and fabulous server Kelly actually got us a small ramekin of them so we could all enjoy some more. Next up was my entree: this time the French Onion Soup and the Wedge Salad (I'm a soup and salad kind of girl . . . for me, this never gets old!) Again, fresh flavors exploded in the soup, with just the right amount of onions, hearty brothy tang, soft sourdough crouton, and creamy gruyere over the top. This may just be the best bowl of French Onion Soup I've ever had, and definitely warrants ordering again! The Wedge Salad is part iceberg, part field greens. Covered again in crispy bacon pieces and served with sides of fresh cheese, it filled out the tiny spot I had left to enjoy something after my delicious French Onion Soup. I tried a few bites of the Fish 'n Chips that my companions were eating . . . what's a great meal if you don't have friends who like to swap bites? First, you have got to try the Chips (or fries, if you get any other dish). From what I could tell they're seasoned with garlic, parsley, and parmesean and every bit delicious from each of those savory ingredients. Worth every darn calorie you'll be wasting on eating them! The Fish was flaky and had a buttery, mild flavor, all covered in a light but crispy batter to give it a satisfying "crunch". I truly cannot wait for my next visit to the Village Anchor, and with specials every Tuesday, I know it won't be long before I make my way back to this harbor of great taste!

The location was absolutely beautiful. The group I was with decided that most restaurants painted yellow are at least worth checking out. ;) We sat in the outdoor porch area, which was great considering we had nice weather. I ordered the chicken arugula salad and was quite pleased. It wasn't anything that knocked my socks off, but it was definitely tasty and fresh. A cute little fun fact: Your checks are given to you in romance novels. Definitely a great way to wrap up the dining experience!

My blood pressure always goes down whenever I'm in Anchorage. The sun always seems to be shining. You can hear the birds chirping, and the downtown area is just too darn cute. Why does it have to be so far away from where I live?!?! Alas, it is still worth the trip, as is the Village Anchor, one of the "anchors" of downtown Anchorage. I went there for lunch yesterday, and my lunch compatriot and I got a great table outside on their porch. There was even more outdoor seating on an outdoor patio as well as in a large covered patio area. But if you get stuck indoors, don't fret. That area is beautiful as well! The Village Anchor was very busy with several families actually when we were there. (Who are these awesome families who get to have lunch together on a weekday?!?) But you wouldn't know they were busy from the staff, who were calm, courteous and attentive. After much deliberation over the menu -- there's so many good eats on it! -- I ordered the Sesame Chicken Salad Sandwich, which along with chicken had green onions, celery, sesame, cilantro, Mandarin oranges, lettuce and tomato on toasted wheatberry bread. It was good. Not the best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had -- that goes to Hawk's View Gallery and Cafe in Bullitt County -- but not bad. The star of the meal was definitely the sweet potato fries with marshmallow creme dipping sauce. Just ... yes. A million times yes. I dig marshmallow as a condiment, and in this case, it was downright sinful. So next time you want to get a bit away from the hub-bub of Louisville, drive the 20 or so minutes, depending on where you are, to Anchorage and go to The Village Anchor. And eat your way through a pile of sweet potato fries and marshmallow creme!

I can't rave about this place enough. Went here for the first time a couple of Fridays ago. There was a long line to eat outside (we didn't have reservations), but we found a free table downstairs. The food was incredible. The meatloaf burger was so moist and flavorful. The sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had. And they come with a marshmallow creme sauce that will rock your world. The drink selection is bountiful and the service was top notch. The best part (besides the food) may have been the atmosphere. It was very trendy, yet cozy. Good music playing softly in the background. Love this place and will be back!

Cozy seating in the covered outdoor tent. Sunday brunch mimosas are only $1! I had the biscuits and gravy plate. The portion size was huge. I split this into 4 meals so prepare for a 2-go box. The tabs are presented in a book. What a unique idea!

Stated with a Manhattan cocktail which was delicious. The waiter was very knowledgable about the extensive bourbon menu. I ordered the cast iron scallops which melted in my mouth. Everything on my plate was delicious. It's a very cute restaurant and the best part is the check. Who says that right? The check came in a warn paper back book. My check happened to be in an old romance novel which made for fun table conversation.

I booked a reservation via Yelp! and Open Table for 6:45PM. I was lead to believe that this spot would provide the setting to a romantic and personal evening. I was wrong. We arrived at 6:30 was was promptly seated at a small high top table directly in the walkway in front of the bar. It was bright, busy and left no room for intimate conversation. The chairs weighed about 40lbs each, I could barely pull mine out and forget about scooting back to the table after you're in it. We asked to be re-seated. At this point we were taken down stairs to the patio area, which again had massively heavy cast iron chairs, marble top table and felt rather cold and distant. Could I see this area being fantastic in the summer, yes. But it was cold and I wasn't digging the place already. Our server arrived to take our drink orders. Tea and water, our usual. It took 8 minutes for that to arrive. How do I know it was 8 minutes, I timed it because at this point our romantic evening was out the window and Elite reviewer kicked in. She delivered our drinks and it took another 11 minutes for her to arrive back to take our orders. Now, we did not have our phones out, or our menus up browsing. We knew exactly what we wanted. She returned and we placed our appetizer (Rock Shrimp) and our main entree (Shrimp & Grits, Fried Fish (all at once because we didn't want to sit for longer waiting for her to return. The appetizer arrived shortly and was amazing. It was truly one of the best uses of rock shrimp I have ever had. It was like a giant corn fritter with goodies inside. Then our food arrived. It was a bit faster than what we had hoped for since we hadn't finished our appetizer. The wait staff attempted to remove the remaining fritters and I think my friend was going to poke them with his fork if they took that plate away. The Shrimp and Grits - were outstanding. They needed a bit more sauce, just a bit but other than that, it was the best Shrimp and Grits I have had. The grits were not lumpy or glue like. I was very pleased. The Fish and Chips - were okay according. You only receive one filet of fish and for $15.99, that's a bit steep in my opinion. That meal warrants two and less fries for that price. Now, here is my test of where a server is going to get an above 20% tip, if I have to wait for my drink refill. I drink approx. two glasses of tea with a meal. I sat for over half of my meal with ice in my glass. No tea. The husband did not get water, he had to take mine since he was empty. She arrived after our meal was completed with refills. The food is what saved this review and would have been five stars, easily but with poor service at that price, no thank you.

This is a great local hangout - especially if you live in Anchorage or east Louisville. Christian the bartender is a hoot - sit down and watch him work! Tuesday's are great for the special and a beer or you can fall back to my favorite the fish tacos!

I have dined at Village Anchor several times in the last month and have never been disappointed! The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the staff is very helpful and polite. You MUST have the sweet potato fries--they come with a marshmallow dipping sauce (yum!) and a bourbon barbecue sauce (also yum)! Their Rosemary fries are also to die for! I chose the BLT&A (a=avocado) and it was delicious! The ingredients were fresh, the bacon is candied and their wheat berry bread was perfect. I highly recommend this! They serve their coffee in a French press with cream and mini chocolate chips alongside it. Yummy! I can't wait to go back again!

My wife had been telling me about this place for several weeks and we finally had time to check it out. I was impressed with everything, the township, the staff, the amazing mansions surrounding the area, the great food. It felt like we were on vacation it was so foreign from most of the places we go it in St Mathews or the Highlands. We sat outside which is always my preference, but the inside of the restaurant with it's cozy, but dark furnishing would be a great place for a long meal with friends or coworkers on a cold winter night. But when the weather is nice you should really sit outside. They are playing a great mix of french jazz, modern and classic big band, and crooners like Sinatra and Harry Conick Jr, and Michael Buble'. The wait staff is friendly, enthusiastic and enticing getting you try the great variety of food. The soups were great, fresh and creative, the fish tacos I had were tasty, filling, and filled with flavor though I would have liked a little more moisture. The freshly made tortilla chips that came with the tacos were sweet and buttery and hard to resist. We had bruschetta for an appetizer which was spot on. I don't give too many perfect scores, but it was the place that took it over the top. The hipsters and the wealthy people were fun to watch, the pretentious bicyclers with their ill fitting uniforms as if they were on some team sipping expensive coffees and of coarse none of them had broken a sweat or had a spot of road dirt on them leaving me wondering if they dressed up and the drove the bikes over on car racks! The patio area we sat in was covered in trees, flowers and well groomed shrubs. But there is also a screened in patio and a shaded lower one on the lower floor off the bar. This is the kind of place I could come to every weekend and would love frequenting at night as a place to bring friends from out of town or VIP's from the office. It's a bit of a drive out of the downtown area but so pretty it's worth exploring the surrounding areas to enjoy the quant city, tastefully maintained parks and grounds, and mind-blowing neighborhoods of manicured mansions. There is a peacifulness others have mentioned that has a destressing affect that will draw me back again and again.

This is in a great building. Looks like an old house. Service really lacks tho. Great menu. Very overcrowded and tight spaces. They do have an outdoor patio. But again, service was slow. I found myself getting up to get my own drink. So guess it's what your ready for. Have been several times.

Not sure what all the hype is about other than the fact there aren't many other restaurants in the area--seriously Anchorage! The food is acceptable, even good sometimes, but it's always busy, a little too insestious with the locals and it's loud. The outdoor dining area is one of the best features--even in the dead of winter with a roaring fire. Wood burning, stoked often by the staff. Many of the dishes are overwrought, like the red velvet pancakes. Too much. And, let's not forget about the chairs. Seriously 50 pounds? Get in and never get out or change your position. And, I ripped my shirt trying to disengage from the chair.

I wanted to give this place a better review, but I just can't. My man friend and I wanted to go to the Village Cafe for a quick breakfast, but since they were closed we decided to give the Village Anchor a try. We walked up and were seated fairly quickly, especially for it being Father's Day. I had forgotten that a lot of people go out for brunch for Father's Day so it was fairly busy. We were seated on the outdoor patio, which was nice. However, when we were seated there was a napkin and a giant serving spoon that had not been removed from the previous patrons' meal. Our waitress did not remove it for the entire meal. The menus also were on our table the entire meal. We ordered a pot of coffee and when she arrived a lot of it spilt all out right near my foot. She apologized on numerous occasions, but was unable to ever correct anything. I will say I did enjoy the food. I had the tilapia fish tacos and my friend had the eggs Benedict. Both were very good. I'm not sure I would come back anytime soon unless someone else suggested it.

Excellent meal, excellent service. I recommend the green chili wontons and scallops for appetizers. I had the Hot Brown as an entree and it's easily the best Hot Brown I've ever had. Dessert is a MUST. The chocolate bread pudding was rich, but heavenly. The dessert special was a lemon bar w raspberry sauce and it didn't disappoint. Can't wait to go back!

Steak was supposed to be medium well but was really rare. The appetizers and salad really good. I had ahi tuna and it was pretty good though I'm not fond of rare but I didn't ask to have it prepared differently. I really enjoy the quant atmosphere.

Expensive and just Ok. Yet to be as impressed as others, but the locals are very convinced it's manna from heaven. Great building. The whole place is a tad pretentious.

My favorite spot for lunch in town. The potato soup is ridiculously good, the goat cheese salad is delicious and I live for their BLT&A. Definitely the best place to go if you're looking for a cozy lunch or dinner spot especially when they've got the fire place going!

The Village Anchor has traditional foods with a unique twist. From comfort foods like meat loaf, hot Browns, elk chilli to savory seafood dishes, fresh fish, and perfect steaks, they are absolutely cooked perfectly. Their chef uses great technique and seasons nicely. The casual ambience for a nicer restaurant makes it feel friendly, warm, and eclectic. The Sea Hag bar downstairs has the same menu with a more bar like atmosphere. Many locals dine here. They offer weekly specials like half off wine and days when one entree is half off. Great outdoor dining. One of Louisville's best restaurants.

Went to the village anchor with a large group. I must say there was absolutely nothing to complain about. The service was perfect. We ordered several appetizers all of which we amazing. My favorite was the goat cheese. I ordered the hotter hot brown and it was by far the best meal I have had in the Louisville area. (I've lived here only 8 months). They have a nice selection of beers and other drinks as well. It's a bit pricey but it was worth every penny. Though they have specials on weekday nights that are very reasonable I heard. We will definitely be back (many times hopefully)!

Second visit in two weeks and this was even better especially on a Monday night. Everything I tried was fantastic. Had the elk chili and wedge salad. We had the sweet potato fries and the artichoke dip for aps. All I needed for the night. Fried chicken looked rediculously good. This place is quickly becoming my local fave.

Love this place. I feel like I start a lot of reviews like this but it's the truth! I just wish my pocket book would allow me to visit here more often. The food is fabulous, specifically the filet which is my favorite. I also devour the mushroom risotto-yummylicious! But the best thing about this place is that they support local people and charities. I have been here twice for Livestrong programs and will always be a customer because they support the community. Thank you for providing amazing food and cocktails, cheerful and knowledgable service and donating some of your profits to help other people. Please visit Village Anchor and give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Excellent! We went down there on a Thursday night. It was only 15 mins away from our house in Crestwood, which is so nice. We were greeted by two lovely people that interacted with our 4 year old, and sat us immediately at 630p. We had a table on the back patio. Though it was kind of hot and muggy out, they had the fans going, we remained comfortable. Joshua was our server. He was prompt, we had our drinks and refills quickly. The food was fabulous! We had an appetizer of green chilie wontons, soooo good. The avocado dipping sauce that accompanied was very very tasty. I had the fish tacos. I believe they were the best I've had since we left FL a year and a half ago. I would like to note, ladies room inside the bar was a one person m/f restroom. Which definitely is not that big of a problem. Just think future patrons know what to expect. Overall, a wonderful evening! My husband and I think we will make it his our "place." Close to home, great atmosphere, prompt, friendly service and amazing food.

Excellent brunch spot with outdoor seating, great service, and fantastic food. We arrived at 11 AM and the place was already hopping. After getting seated immediately, our server brought a fresh pot of French press coffee (excellent start) and took food and drink orders. I had the skillet corned beef hash and a BLT Bloody Mary. The eggs with my corned beef were cooked perfectly, and it was obvious the corned beef was made on the premises. The Bloody Mary might have been the best I've ever had. Just the right amount of spice with a strip of sugared bacon, some grape tomatoes, and a piece of romaine garnish. GF had the California Benedict. It must have been good because by the time I looked up to ask for a bite, it was gone. Attentive service that's not overbearing and a creative menu that is executed flawlessly. It really doesn't get much better.

Items sampled: Allen Wrench Stilton Potato Soup with Parmesan Cheese Croutons - Bleu Cheese, Candied Anchor Bacon, Scallions Kevin's Anchor Meatloaf Burger - Fresh Brioche Bun, Topped with Aged Cheddar, Sauteed Onions, Candied Anchor Bacon Anchor Hot Brown - Pulled Roasted Chicken, House made Sourdough Stuffing, Cheddar/ Parmesan/ Mornay Sauce, Grape Tomatoes, Candied Anchor Bacon Sweet Potato Fries - Vanilla/Brown Sugar seasoned sweet potato fries with rosemary salt, village anchor marshmallow crème, anchor's bourbon BBQ Dipping Sauce Goat Cheese Gateau - Blend of local Capriole Farmstead Goat Cheese, Spinach, Sundried Tomatoes, Roasted Garlic coated with Italian Bread Crumbs and Lightly fried with toasted French Bread Mom's Hot Banana Pudding Meringue - Banana, warm pudding, Nilla wafers, mound of mom's meringue Although we were only in Louisville for ~34 hours there is no doubt we ate well and there is even less doubt that I need to go back at some point to see more of the city, but for lunch on 6/29 we actually ventured out of the city to Anchorage - a small suburb and home of The Village Anchor, a restaurant that would turn out to be my favorite in the city and, more importantly, home to my favorite dessert of 2012. A unique space, housed in an old home on a hillside, we arrived at Village Anchor without reservations and with the space almost entirely filled opted to sit at the bar where a young, clever bartender instantly made us feel at home - serving my mother a grapefruit vodka infused "Allen Wrench" while I stuck with water to quell my thirst from the 100+ degree heat. Featuring the full menu at the bar we made it our goal to sample widely without over-ordering considering our large breakfast and plans for an equally large dinner and all told made it through a half dozen of our server's recommendations; each excellent but the two sweets truly standing out from the pack. With my selection of The Gateau and The Anchor's take on Louisville's famous "Hot Brown" both rich and decadent my mother's choice of "Soup and Salad" was equally so and although everything was nicely prepared and both the soup and Hot Brown absolute 'must orders' it was actually the fries that accompanied mom's duo that wowed us the most - the crunchy exterior and fluffy insides tasting like candied yams taken to an entirely new level by a pair of dipping sauces that, when paired, were sweet and salty, creamy and spicy...a best of both worlds combination that made me wonder why no one had had ever thought to add some BBQ spice to the ubiquitous Thanksgiving side dish. Moving to dessert there was little hesitation or question as to what we should order and taking a cue from the bartender (as well as the menu) the mountain of Banana Pudding would prove every bit as good as it sounds - the Frankenstein dish pairing concepts as diverse as Southern Banana Pudding and Meringue Pie with those of a traditional French Soufflé with overwhelming success, each bite a slightly different balance of creamy and crunchy yet all exceedingly light; like eating a banana cream cloud and a perfect ending to a meal that far exceeded modest expectations.

My husband took me there for our Valentine's Day dinner and it was a wonderful experience! The menu was spot on and prepared to perfection. The staff are very helpful in recommending choices and are very knowledgeable. We can't wait until the weather is warm so we can sit outside!

Love this place. It has a great atmosphere and super friendly staff. Its a little pricey but definitely worth it. My wife and I love the dirty hag martinis. We make sure and go whenever family and friends are in town. The inside is a little cozy but when the weather is nice we like to sit in the large outdoor areas.

Went here recently with a bunch of family and I have to say it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. We went for dinner and were seated outside in the patio area (with an overhang). It was a great spot to eat and visit. The open-air was refreshing, as was the retro decor and relaxing music. And the service was really impressive. Despite being a group of 11 our waitress was on top of everything and never missed a beat. The food and drinks were top notch. We ordered a handful of appetizers that were all good and my shrimp and grits dish was excellent. We also tried a few different dessert dishes. Can definitely recommend the buttermilk pie!

Orders the steak biscuit due to the previous reviews and was really disappointed. Too much biscuit and very dry. The sweet potato fries with the marshmallow sauce is great and I loved the candied bacon. We went for brunch and will give them another try for dinner. I'm sure they are better than the experience that we had.

Two words: Steak and biscuits. (ok, now there's gonna be a bunch more but if you're on mobile reading this you got the highlight about steak and biscuits above). Southerners beware: there's no gravy on these. Just a fabulous blue cheese sauce, caramelized onions and the biscuit seems like it's baked with chives, cheese pepper and other things that were not detected individually but meshed together in a way that created pure brunch heaven. WAY more exciting than gravy. I'm an omelet kind of bruncher, but I'm always looking for intriguing menu items that are exciting enough to get me out of that box and this is one of my new favorites. Their ahi tuna salad will be my next conquest. I was wary of an $18 salad, but none of their dishes have failed me yet. Speaking of, killer hot brown that uses bacon and roasted chicken instead of turkey. Plus, there's a house made sourdough at the bottom -- yum! As a side note, I just had the hot brown at The Brown and I think Village Anchor does it better. This is a restaurant you'll most likely have to make a trek out to. It's in Anchorage and not right off the highway, unfortunately. $1 mimosas in the Sag (downstairs of the restaurant) on weekends is the cherry on top that makes this place worth a drive and the whole meal seem a little more affordable. I've also enjoyed their wine down Wednesdays where it's half off bottles all day/night. Plus, if you order dinner (and one time we got away with just doing apps) then you get complimentary samples of their wine.

Awesome food. I've had carry out twice and eaten in once. The salads are excellent: big, fresh, great flavors. The sweet potato fries are addictive. Service is friendly, and it's a very nice ambiance. We didn't make a reservation, so we ate downstairs in the heated tent/patio area, which was ok but definitely less cool than the rest of the restaurant. Next time we'll make a reservation.

Excellent place to have brunch in November. Had the French Toast and the big boy breakfast. It was delicious. The key was that there wasn't many seats available for our group of 7 so we sat outside where it was cold. The server brought heaters out and we had the most wonderful meal with cool crisp air and heaters. All of the food was excellent and the service was amazing.

This is now my favorite dining experience in Louisville. The area is beautiful, and the inside reminds me of an old fashion saloon. We ordered about 5-6 appetizers with my party of 11 and everyone was fighting over each appetizer. They were delicious! The service was excellent, with drinks, appetizers, and our main course coming out at a very reasonable time. I ordered the grilled salmon salad and it couldn't of been executed better. Came with avocado, and a very generous cut of salmon. The dressing was very subtle but worked perfectly with the salad. I tried the shrimp and grits, Hot Brown, and the fish and chips. All were spectacular. Everyone ordered dessert and coffee and everything was presented beautifully and tasted as it appeared. Next time I visit my family in Louisville, I demand we come back more than once!

I didn't think Anchorage could get any cuter, but Village Anchor is delightful. The upstairs is cozy, and the basement has large TVs great for watching sports with a giant bar. But we sat on the back patio, which is well-landscaped and gorgeous, even in the winter time. We came for brunch, and I ordered the Monte Cristo, which was delicious, if not low-fat given that it's deep-fried. And $1 mimosas? Awesome. You cold easily bring a group here, and the place would be great to host an event as well. I wish I'd had time to sit here all day- next time I'll plan on doing exactly that.

Loved the charm and ambience of the Village Anchor? Off the beaten path of downtown Louisville, but well worth the trip. The menu is unique and food is top notch. Our server was wonderful and made great suggestions. The hotter brown was the real winner though. Shouldn't be missed if you're visiting Louisville for the first time.

10 Buck Tuesday at the Village Anchor/ Sea Hag was quite the treat! Two fish tacos (with a yummy avocado aioli), chips, and a Smuttynose for $10?!? Awesome. My party of three also shared the tasty spicy chili wonton appetizer! Great atmosphere. Excellent "pub" food with a refined flare! Can't wait to go back!

My wife, daughter and I looked forward to our first visit to The Village Anchor this Spring after a glowing review from family and an endless stream of positive reviews. Unfortunately the experience began to unravel as soon as we met our server. Given that he looked about the room the entire time we attempted to order, our waiter obviously wanted to be doing anything other than serving us. Eastern European prison guards no doubt have a friendlier disposition and would likely have been more helpful in answering questions about the menu. Luckily for us, he did not make a habit of showing up much after our initial contact. The arrival of the food did little to compensate us for the service. My daughter and wife both ordered the Fish and Chips and while they could not complain about the portions, the fish would most charitably be described as dry and the fries would have failed to inspire on a school lunch line. While neither are fans of coleslaw, given a taste even I had to admit it was at best an odd concoction. Neither enjoyed theirs enough to finish. My Apricot Bourbon Pork was edible but came across as more a selection of ingredients than a well prepared culinary experience. More disturbing was the number of staff who stopped by to inform me that my meal was the finest item on the menu with a level of sincerity that suggested had I ordered a shoe I would have been congratulated for my excellent taste in selecting the best they had to offer. In general our meals lacked any of the cohesion that you'd expect from truly fine cooking. Understanding how difficult it is to make ends meet in the restaurant business I seldom complain about prices, but considering how many local restaurants create far better food for the same or even less than the Anchor charges, this place is a vastly overpriced. It's easy to think of any number of local eateries that serve either of the items we ordered at much better quality, for a lower price and with every bit as pleasant an atmosphere (think Irish Rover and Varanese for two), and that's where the problem lies for this spot; In a city that boasts so many excellent dining experiences with great food and professional service, The Village Anchor simply does not compete.

This restaurant reminds me of a fancy pants speakeasy, for sure. You will pull up to a large house wedged next to an open parking lot. My two workers and myself had a reservation at 6:30, which was probably unnecessary. Note that you probably should get a reservation around 7:00 or later because tables began filling up by the time we got our food. We started off with two appetizers: green chili wontons and sweet potato fries with marshmallow cream. The wontons were fresh, cheesy, and kick-ful (had a kick). They were good, but the sweet potato fries were GREAT. The fries were perfectly... Fried. Crispy. Seasoned to perfection. The marshmallow cream and bourbon BBQ sauce were definitely a perfect accompaniment to this dish. My coworker doesn't even like sweets, but he thought they were delicious. For my main dish, I ordered the Hotter Brown ($15) - Pulled roasted chicken, house-made sourdough stuffing, cheddar-Parmesan Mornay sauce, grape tomatoes, Candied Anchor Baconâ„¢. I enjoyed the dish, and maybe it's just me, but I could not finish it due to the dish's heaviness. You know how you can enjoy a dish so much that you finish it all? I couldn't really do that with this dish based on how creamy and thick the sauce was. I should've opted for the Marsala because my coworker ordered that and it looks delicious and from what he said, tasted delicious as well. For dessert, we all shared the fried oreo special. How can you go wrong with fried oreos? The fried oreos definitely were a great finish to the meal and I'd order them again, if possible. It could be better if they added a scoop of ice cream to it, though! You should definitely pay Village Anchor a visit while you're in the area. It certainly is worth the visit.

This is more of a 3.5 star with potential to be great. We tried this restaurant the day after Christmas. The server was very friendly but I didn't like that when we asked for recommendations he happened to pick the 3 most expensive dishes. They don't have a drink menu, but we asked the server what they had and he described a couple. They need a drink menu. For food, we started with a side order of sweet potato fries served with BBQ sauce and marshmallow crème for $5. It was huge, can't imagine how much bigger the appetizer portion is for $8. Genius, how is this the first time I've ever seen marshmallow as a dipping sauce for sweet potatoes, but it was soooo good. I liked the BBQ sauce equally as much surprisingly. For entrees, we got the Shrimp and Grits ($25) and the Hot Browner ($15). For $25, it was pricey, but very good. It was a bit different than your usual with a kick of bourbon. The Hot Browner was very good, but very heavy. For a side we got the Brussels sprouts, they were OK. The carrot cake cheesecake ($8), was good. The cheesecake part was good, and the frosting was amazing. The carrot cake itself was a bit oily, I'm not sure how fresh it was. The ambience was cute with a fireplace in the background, but the lighting was awkward and shining bright in our faces. The should get dimmers so that they can change the lighting to be more appropriate for dinner. Overall, it was a good experience with a twist on classics which we liked. If you are in the area, it's definitely worth a visit.

Village anchor - Louisville, KY - "The Traveller Review" #1,349 I was lucky to get a table by the fire on this cold Thursday (9F) night. This upscale restaurant never disappoints. It is located in the upscale neighborhood of Anchorage, KY and the restaurant feels like home, is full of energy and lots of fun. No wonder Vince Vaughn and David Dobkin selected it as a shoot location for their 2014 filming of "Wedding Crashers 2". On this night, I selected the chicken pot pie and a side of brussel sprouts. The pot pie warmed the soul. The flaky crust and big chunks of chicken were prepared perfectly. A soulful dish that reminds me of home. The side of Brussels was excellent as well. Big Brussels cut in half and full of flavor, cooking with bacon never hurts!

Sweet spot outside of L'Ville we only heard about as out-of-towners from a local. We were starving when we arrived, so we just took the waiter's recs for all of our food and he did well. A goat cheese gateau was stupendous and shrimp and grits were divine. The staff were generous and helpful. The maitre'd saw we were low on bread and quickly rectified that situation. Our main regret was not having enough room for dessert. Also, a nice bourbon menu.

I wanted to try this eatery because it"s developed a great reputation for originality and excellence - I selected the 6 once filet for dinner (just a touch over cooked ) for the entree, loaded baked potato and an original - scrumptious chocolate enrobed cheesecake drizzled with raspberries for dessert. All were tasty and each had that touch of personal signature you look for in privately owned establishments. Two others in my party also raved about their selections and promise to return. The restaurant was extremely busy for a Sunday evening. This is a favorite hangout for the locals in this uber - upscale area...a great indicator of their consistent quality & just the way you build a great reputation. I wish this system allowed for half- stars as they deserve to be rated at 4.5 I will return.

I was so excited to return to this restaurant since I loved it the first time. In particular I wanted the sweet potato fries with the marshmallow creme. That appetizer was awesome again. I ordered the wedge salad with a cup of chicken and dumpling soup. The salad was average and the soup was more like a doughy lump with a little gravy with tasteless pieces of pale chicken. So disappointed.

I loved everything about this place! The atmosphere was enchanting--lovely outdoor patio with gorgeous stone fireplace and cute garden feel with plants and real wrought iron table and chairs. Even the bathroom was adorable in a feminine motif of pink walls, an old school mannequin/bust, and delicate accents. The food was amazing as well. We enjoyed the deviled egg appetizer and if we had been hungry enough the roasted elephant garlic would have been my second choice. For entree, I went with the classic Kentucky Hot Brown. There isn't anything to dislike about this dish, except the calorie content--but who's counting?! My dinner companions enjoyed their french onion soup, beet salad, meatloaf burger, and grilled salmon. Seemed like we couldn't go wrong. For dessert, the carrot cake was delicious. The Village Velvet (red velvet ice cream with cream cheese swirls!) by Comfy Cow was my favorite though. I thought the prices were great for the quality and uniqueness of the food. Unfortunately, I don't make it Louisville more than a few times a year to visit clients, but I will definitely be back.

I liked everything about this place, from the area, to the ambiance (with a fire in the fireplace warming me), to the friendly staff...but the best part was of course, THE FOOD!. I had a wonderful cup of tomato bisque with fresh basil and then "the Hotter Brown." This hot brown came to the table bubbling and I savored every single bite. While it was very filling, I wanted to lick the bowl to not leave a drop (but the place is too classy for that so I suppressed that urge). This would be a great place to go for lunch with a colleague but even better for a dinner with your spouse or a close friend. This will be a go to place when I want to impress an out of town guest!

Went to dinner with my wife to this cute, local, recommended spot. First off I must say the overall decor, design, and nature of the restaurant is part of its rating. It was really, for lack of a better word, cute. Greeting by all staff was prompt and friendly. One exception to this which I will touch on later. The food menu was appropriate in length for the establishment. I would rather a chef focus on 10-15 signature items rather than a booklet of poorly prepared dishes. I had heard good things about the wine list, I would say the bottle selection is nice, and parts of the by the glass were good. Would have liked to have seen less generic offerings. While I did not partake, the bourbon, cocktail and beer list was impressive as well. Draft prices were a little high though. On to the food, appetizer of chili wontons was delicious, the sauce made the dish. My wife had the vegetarian lasagna (no she is not a vegetarian). It sounded good, and tasted as yummy. I had the shrimp and grits. The overall flavor and dish was good. If I had to give one note it would be to maybe remove an ingredient or two. It was more like sausage and grits with shrimp as a supporting actor. Only culinary letdown was bread, basic french loaf with no effort. As I mentioned above there was one sore spot. The man I would guess to be the manager was watching a basketball game on TV in the bar.The result unfortunately was not in favor of his team to which he let out a tirade of profanity loud enough to be heard through the restaurant. I am a passionate sports fan, but I don't take my disappointment out in the middle of my work and my customers. Not enough to ruin the experience, but certainly took away from the efforts of a good service and culinary team.

Not from around here, but what a great find. I found it through the Urban Bourbon Tour app, and as it was close to the gym and hotel, I swung by. Definitely glad I did. It was a little after 6 and already busy. Since I was by myself and only looking for a drink and a snack, I sat at the bar. Levi and John took great care of me. The bourbon and whiskey selection is awesome, as was the beer selection. The fish tacos could easily pass for a meal, and were very tasty. An upscale bar/restaurant in an upscale kinda neighborhood.

Always the best soup! Today was a pork, bean and corn, topped with fresh herbs. So good. Pick 3 is the perfect lunch. A must try is the meringue banana pudding!

I've been here twice now, & both times we had exceptional food & great service. I do find it weird that the host/hostess shakes your hand when you walk in. Not only ifs it slightly awkward, but it comes off as calculated & insincere.

We stopped in for dinner last night. Everything was delicious and well executed. We started with the ahi tuna appetizer. It was very light and respected the taste of the tuna itself. I had the scallops and my husband had the pork chop. The scallops were completely grit-free and perfectly seared. The risotto that came with them was amazing. The pork chop was nicely grilled and had great flavor. We shared the carrot cake for dessert and it was lovely. The icing was good without being too sweet. We will definitely be back.

We were celebrating our anniversary and the Village Anchor had such great reviews we had to try it! We were greeted with a handshake from the hostess which I must say was a little strange, but she took us right away to a corner table on the veranda. The noise level was a little high but not annoying. Our waiter, Daniel, was outstanding! He took our drink order - at this point I have to say they have an impressive beer, wine and Bourbon list - and didn't hover, but allowed us ample time to decide on our appetizers (the green chili wontons and deviled egg sampler... delicious!). There was no rush to take our complete order and get us out the door. We savored our soup (elk chili - very spicy - and French onion, both outstanding). My husband ordered the apricot Bourbon pork, I ordered the special which was a braised/roasted leg of lamb au jus, with grits and diced vegetables. Everything was superb! Dessert for me was the chocolate enrobed raspberry cheesecake (so rich I could only take a few bites), for hubby it was the Granny Smith apple pie a la mode. All portions were huge! We wound up taking a substantial portion of my entree, as well as most of our desserts home. As I said, we weren't rushed to get through our meal and leave. We were there over 2-1/2 hours, which made us feel this was more a feast extravaganza than the usual dinner out. The atmosphere is French chateau with every detail of the decor designed to impress from the two enormous fireplaces to the stylish Laguiole knives. By the way, style of dress is dressy casual. Prices were very reasonable. We splurged for the occasion so we expected the $150 bill excluding tip. Thank you, Village Anchor and Daniel for a memorable anniversary dinner... We'll be back!

Great food, scenery, building, located in historic Anchorage, KY. Higher prices is the only downfall. Check out 10 buck Tuesday, wine night and cigar night in the "Sea Hag" portion/downstairs bar. Great selection of wines and featured dishes from one of the top chefs in Louisville. Get there early on busy or special nights as the wait can get lengthy.

Very pricy for what you get. I went here with my wife and friends last Friday night. The place was packed which is usually a good sign. It is an upscale restaurant and the customers were mostly decked out in upscale attire. We were seated in their patio area which was fine at first. The first thing I noticed on the menu was the prices. They are approaching Ruth's Cris Steakhouse prices. $34.00 for a rib eye steak. $24.00 for shrimp and grits?? Everything is a la Carte. OK, if the service and food rock like Ruth's. I decided to try their version of the Hot Brown. It sounded a little unusual but tempting. The price however, was $17.00 and didn't include any side. I opted for the side of sautéed spinach for one for $4.00. My wife tried the Chicken kabob appetizer and sautéed spinach. Others in our party got various pasta dishes. If one wants to order larger side dishes, they are $8.00 each - the same price as Ruth's. The steak is the same price as Ruths. The bus boy poured our water and left a pitcher of ice water on the table so we could serve ourselves. We noticed there was no salt and pepper at our table, or any other table for that matter. When we asked our waiter for salt and pepper, he brought back two, tiny bowls containing a little salt and pepper in each one. This may be trendy but not the most sanitary way to dispense table spices. When I received my "hot brown" my first reaction was "What the hell is that?" It came in a small, casserole dish that was one inch deep and about 7 inches long. It was unlike any "hot brown" I ever had (I'm not being complimentary here.) I really expected something larger for $17.00. It contained maybe two ounces of chicken, some sourdough bread stuffing and a tasty cheese sauce. Yes, I said tasty. It was good but overall too small and skimpy on the meat. The sautéed spinach was pretty good but was also a very small portion for $4.00. Others in our party got various pasta dishes, Fish and chips, Rueben sandwich. The Rueben looked pretty good but two people that had the cold slaw said it tasted "off.". Everyone agreed the main dishes were tasty but outrageously overpriced. As the evening progressed, the temperature dropped and the wind picked up. The staff only closed a couple of the wind barriers but not the one next to our table. I'm guessing the fact that we didn't order alcohol or desert had something to do with it.Our waiter was ok but not on the level of Ruth's Cris. Now I'm getting really hungry for Ruth's filet.

Five of us had dinner here last night on the patio. I loved the ambiance, but felt the food and cocktails were just okay....here's the scoop: my husband & I ordered martinis that took longer to arrive...it was obvious these up style drinks had been sitting in ice too long and were watery to taste although a nice presentation. I ordered the small filet with loaded baked potato and both were almost cool to the taste. The 6-oz steak was flavorful, but definitely cool. Coffee afterwards was served cool and sent back by one of our guests. The banana pudding meringue we all shared was also on the cool side. It was a very busy place and I felt as though there wasn't enough help in the kitchen and serving staff to get food out in a timely manner.

I wish you could give 1/2 star increments... Village Anchor is a 4.5 star in my book. Nice bourbon selection (although they don't have much Van Winkle), and the food portions are good sized and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the fried chicken if you're a fried chicken aficionado. I also love the space, it just reminds me of a good old fashioned tavern - fireplaces, well kept/used wooden bar and floors, and an outdoor patio that they cover and have heaters in for the winter. Highly recommend this place; yes, it is even worth driving to from Louisville (gasp!).

I absolutely loved this place. I was in Kentucky on business and of course had to check out yelp to determine the proper place for a quick lunch. First, our server was fabulous. She had no problem recommending her favorite items-which I always appreciate. The food was even more impressive. I ordered the bleu cheese potato soup..I don't even like bleu cheese but the server said I should try it and it ended up being my favorite part of the meal. I will be back in Kentucky in the Spring and I am sure I will be taking my co-workers here so they can enjoy this place as well.

Took my wife to the Village Anchor for our Anniversary. We had read good reviews and were not disappointed. The Village Anchor is a neighborhood pub/restaurant that is located in one of Louisville's best residential area's. We ordered cocktails that were prepared just right. The appetizer and main courses were excellent. The service was pretty good but there were some spots that it could have been better. I would have rated this restaurant 5 stars but for a couple of things. First our table location. The restaurant was very busy for a Wednesday night. We were seated on an open air porch that was partially enclosed. It was a warm day with temperatures in the high 80's or low 90's. A large commercial fan was placed on the ground next to our table to cool down the area. Our table was in a pathway next to a door that servers used constantly to go in and out onto an outdoor deck. The door was propped open so that air could circulate. Unfortunately it would not stay open so our table area got pretty warm. Our table location prevented me from ordering a soup that I had been looking forward to having. The other issue is parking. There simply is not enough parking for the crowds this restaurant draws. It is landlocked by a ritzy neighborhood so patrons may have to circle the lot before finding a space to park. Overall I would recommend the Village Anchor very highly. The food is excellent and is priced accordingly.

The food is excellent. Everything i've ordered has been yummy. I recommend the sweet potato fries, the Reuben, and the carrot cake.great ambience. The kind of place that you go to if you want something/somewhere a little special. Gets busy and a little loud at peak lunch/dinner hours.make a reservation.

Great place for a Sunday brunch! Great music, outside tables and awesome food! Had an omelette and it was great. Lots of outdoor heating with fans to keep you cool. Would recommend to everyone!

We visited with a large group on a Saturday afternoon and were well taken care of. Because of our large group we sat on the covered lanai, which had heaters, but it was still chilly. The food was delicious. Several of us had the pick 3 and were very happy with our selections. The slaw was very original and the Reuben was a crowd favorite. A few others enjoyed the fried egg sandwich. Our waitress was very attentive and the atmosphere was very old world. I would give 5 stars, but I think the restaurant is a little pricey. The food and atmosphere are excellent and the outdoor seating is beautiful in nice weather. The restaurant is also good for any size group and the take reservations.

Has become a go to place for meeting friends to bringing business associates. The upstairs bar has become our new fav....drinks are very well prepared. Service is excellent and friendly. The apps....gotta have the fried goat cheese...delish! So far everything we have ordered on the menu (or their special for the evening) has been great. Keep up the good work. I look forward to many return visits.

Amazing food, I Reco the fried chicken, sweet potato fries with marshmallow and the pastrami sandwich. The banana pudding and anchor pie pop was fab, but the carrot cake was off the hook! Best I ever had....a must when in Louisville

Third time eating as this restaurant in the past year and the first two went fine but the third was unacceptable. The restaurant lost power earlier that day for a moment (per the server) and there was no computer for ordering and for music. The servers and bartender were congregating around the bar telling jokes and laughing loudly. They explained to guests that they thought their noise was better than the quiet due to the absence of music. We witnessed trays of food coming out from the kitchen and being incorrectly delivered to nearby tables. When our food finally arrived we were missing some of the order and our eggs were cold. We let the server know and she seemed unaffected. We hardly saw her for the remainder of our meal until she plunked the check down before we were done. Poor service and food for the price (for any price, really). We will not return.

Had brunch here this past weekend, and it was awesome, as expected. In the Sea Hag, downstairs, there is outside seating and $1.00 mimosas on Sundays (during specific hours). We started with some of the blue cheese biscuits, which were delicious, but lacking much blue cheese flavor. They were just great biscuits, so they still were a hit. I had the fish tacos, which were awesome. They were served with housemade chips which were okay, not my favorite, but the tacos filled me up so I didn't really need a side dish anyway. My brother had the elk chili which had great flavor, and the California Benedict, as did 2 others in our party. The benedict looked beautiful and everyone cleaned their plates, so I have to assume it was great. We also had a meatloaf burger at the table, as well as a side dish of the candied bacon, which was awesome. I know they use the candied bacon in their housemade potato salad, so I can only imagine how freaking good it would be. The Village Anchor never disappoints!

We found this place charming and welcoming on a Friday night. We lucked into a table for two in front of the fireplace without having a reservation. We ordered the wontons but swear we only received six not the seven on the menu although I may have lost count of how many I ate. The favorite was the elk chili and the shrimp and grits shared well. The service was attentive and personal. Overall very nice.

Eh. The atmosphere was nice. I really liked the decor (even though we sat outside, we checked out the inside a bit) and I thought using old romance novels as check presenters was a cute idea. I was not impressed with the price, the service, or the food quite frankly. The best thing about this restaurant is their beer list. It is surprisingly extensive. Now for our experience. I ordered the ahi-tuna salad while the boys ordered soups (as appetizers) and meals. The soups ended up coming out with the meal, which was odd (ok, since I'm a waitress I'm a brat about these things). For $18 I wanted a huge salad. Yeah, didn't happen. It also didn't have the avocado that was supposed to come with it. When I flagged the waiter down, he argued with me about it. Seriously? I ordered the salad BECAUSE it had avocado. Anyway, he finally brought me some. The tuna was also supposed to have a coriander crust, which was debatable to me. It just seemed to have a mix of white and black sesame seeds. The tuna was good, though. I think I was just so turned off by the argument with the waiter that I have a bad taste in my mouth. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. I just know I wouldn't return. It was far too pricey when there are other nice places in town.

Village Anchor did a great job with our large party. There were over 16 of us that arrived. The service was spot on and made excellent recommendations. We gorged ourselves on appetizers and then proceeded to stuff ourselves with a rgeat selection of entrees. Hot Brown was good but rich. They have a good selection of drink options. The atmosphere was laid back and very relaxed.

With excellent richly flavored food and gorgeous decor (e.g., chandeliers, deep rich woods and fabrics), Village Anchor is a classy and romantic spot for dinner. It's more quirky than pretentious--bills are delivered inside romance novels and there is art on the ceiling--and jackets are not required. Recommend: the hotter brown and the carrot cake.

I will NEVER return. I've never been treated more poorly in my life. The staff humiliated my wife and me on our wedding anniversary and refused to re-seat us away from a portable propane heater when the restaurant was empty and we had confirmed reservations. What would have been a wonderful evening turned into an exercise in how NOT to treat guests. Horrible, unwarranted, and undeserved. We WILL tell our friends and we WILL tell our business associates. We asked the server to be moved, and he referred us to the hostesses, one of whom explained their policy. I do not appreciate being made to feel as if I'm imposing, nor do I feel that I was being unreasonable in any way at any point. We were seated in their makeshift dining room on their patio when it was clear that there were many open tables (10+) in the main dining room. Of the 20+ tables on the back porch, ours was the worst, offering a fine view of the asphalt parking lot through clear plastic, or my view of the dirty server and busser station. Were it not for the outrageousness of the table placement, I'm pretty sure the fact that I couldnt hear my wife speaking would have prompted the move. That we had ridiculously hot air blowing on our legs from an auto repair garage-style heater didn't help matters. I remember thinking, aside from feeling insulted, that I knew every moment we spent there would be unpleasant and that we'd be paying for this mistreatment, and that was too much to bear. It was absurd that we'd even been seated there to begin with, much less treated as if asking to sit elsewhere was such an unreasonable inconvenience. I'm still just shocked.

We must have visited on an off night because everything was terrible except the food which we never got to try. We ordered after waiting 30 minutes and never received our food so we left. The atmosphere is cool but the service is terrible. I don't have the time to detail everything but based on the first visit, we dont want to try it again!

Good beer selection. Get the sweet potato fries, ignore the yuppies in the bar downstairs. Service is good if you talk to the staff, instead of expecting them to know your taste, as theirs is a fairly eclectic menu. I recommend this place.

I've been here three times in a month. Once was girls night out, once for an afternoon birthday lunch, and once for a dinner date. What a fantastic place. The ambiance is great, the bar area is small but feels intimate, the setting is fantastic. But all that aside, the food is fabulous. The most recent visit we tried several dishes including some new additions to the menu. Loved all of them - the savory and sweet sauces with the sweet potato fries, the meatball burger, the new elk chili, the cobb rollers, the cast iron scallops, ALL of the desserts. Just great all around. Recommend trying to get a table indoors for evening ambiance, unless you ask to sit near the fireplace on the patio. My only complaint for the patio and the bar inside is that the chairs were a heavy metal - harder to move. Otherwise, it's my new favorite.

Food mediocre, service same. Been there a few times and really do not have any desire to go back. I ordered the soup of the day and a 1/2 of a grilled cheese sandwich and really for $14, way too expensive for a lunch. When my order came it was potato soup, not the white bean I ordered and my sandwich was tuna, not grilled cheese. Get a kitchen staff that checks the orders before they go out and also make sure the soup is hot, which mine nor my dinner companions was. Most people order soupl because they want something warm and comforting. While I think the atmosphere is some what fun, the area is too small and cramped to really enjoy yourself. If you happen to sit on the booth side of the table you can't get out of your seat once your in without disturbing all the other patrons anywhere near you. The Village Anchor is too pricey with average food. Definitely try some of the other far better places to eat in Louisville. Even on the East end.

Been for brunch (which isn't really brunch, but menu selections are typical brunch time); pretty good. Been for lunch; also pretty good. Atmosphere in the small, but smartly decorated bar/dining area is nice. The other times I have been, the patio areas are not so great; once in February with a reservation for my daughter's birthday and sat outside in the enclosed and heated patio. Heat sufficient, but it couldn't make up for the stiff winter breeze blowing in through the cracks in the plastic patio covering. Sea Hag is okay if you are lucky enough to get a real table. If you get stuck in the iron, typical patio furniture, not so good. The real problem with the Sea Hag: don't advertise a special every Tuesday, have one waiter who is working his behind off and can't get to everyone very quickly (I'm sure one server is schedule to make up for the low bill totals so they can acutally make a decent wage), give me a amout of what was the main ingredient on a sandwich with an overwhelming amount of lettuce, and then charge an exorbitant amout of money for bar items that are not included in the special. The sandwich was really not the issue, but don't have cheap specials if you are then going to skimp on the ingredients. And please don't charge me $15.00 for a bourbon that is $7.00 to $10.00 per glass everywhere else. Regular entrees are good, but pricey. You'd be better off at many other places, even in the east end.
