Ok...5 stars for me based on the Owner, Bartenders and Servers have always been amazing. They remember their guests, call you by name, and make a point to engage you! Makes you feel welcome and that you are appreciated. For that right there, I'm a repeat customer. Its a smaller venue, cozy, food is good. Good happy hour and now have karaoke (sp?) Sat nights! Try em out!

Food was good once the raw burger was fully nuked. Service was slow. Knowledge of full menu was average. No manager or server cared to check on things after fixed meal was given to us. Our server did ask after our plates were gone. If asked if I would return....I am in no hurry....just like their service. Also, If you are a nonsmoker and the weather is nice, they will have doors open to patio and the smell of smoke is very noticeable. Not ideal if you don't care for that smell.

A great bar for servers! It's wonderful for relaxing after a long shift, with a stellar staff on hand.

Tacos good. Fried pickles excellent. Pork tenderloin amazing. Salad below average. Ask for the local bar west card for discounts and $5 comp.

I recommend! If you are looking for a bar with a great atmosphere and quality food, this is your spot. Traditional bar food with a slight twist and well above average. The key here is the great atmosphere and great people. Stop in and try it out, you won't be disappointed.

This place looks so cool. Each booth has their own tv in it and it is a nice atmosphere. Went on a Saturday for lunch and there was maybe 8 people in the place and our food took a long time to come out (salad and a wrap). I had the wrap and it was not great. It was filled with all the large super crunchy lettuce cubes. And the wrap was not filled well. I thought they forgot the pico, but it was it was all at the bottom! The worst part is that the fries were so over cooked. They were SOOO dark and clearly over cooked. They were so over done they had the same texture as kettle chips. The fries were so crunchy and dry. It was gross. I'd go back but not get food unless made by a different person with fresh food.

A small, tiny little bar and grill with lots of amazing food. Service was exceptional, and all of the burgers which were ordered looked well presented. I ordered the chicken tenders, and they may honestly have the best chicken tenders that I have ever eaten.

Not great. There were 4 customers there and it took 40 minutes to cook our food. Pretty over-priced. The appetizer we got was $13, and looked awful. I asked for my burger medium-well and it was crunchy on the outside. The service was friendly, but not impressed with the food, speed, or price.

Potato skins were still frozen, food was way over seasoned. Only thing that made our meal was the waitress not charging us for our terrible food.

Pretty good bsr food, some of the best burgers in town. Waitresses tend to be a little crabby. More of a bar than a restaurant.

Very disappointed in the service and food. Onion rings were cold and burger well done instead of medium.. When mentioned the response we got was do you want us to redo it.. Well yes please... Came back got the burger first it was rare.. Meat was actually sticking to the fork.. Over half way through the burger the onion rings finally came out well over cooked.. Boo... Not a return place for us...

My wife, I and friends have been visiting BW for quite some time because of the good food. But the last few visits have been miserable. For some new reason, the staff believes it is necessary to crank the volume about 18:30 to 19:00. Such that it is impossible to talk with friends. My wife mentioned to me last night to scratch this place off the list. That pretty well says it all.

We come here frequently. Excellent happy hour deals even on weekends. We bring our kid, but love that there are seldom any other kids. And when there are, they are behaved. It's a small place, but that gives it character. Beer is always cold. Wings are excellent. Although heat varies greatly. Salads are superb. They need to update website for current specials.

Some friends gave us a Living Social for this place and we finally made it there today. We went in for dinner on a Sunday evening at about 6pm. Place wasn't overly crowded, but it wasn't empty either. Initial impression was, OK, it's a bar in a strip mall. We'll be eating mediocre bar food, but hopefully the burgers and fries aren't too bad and hey, it was a gift. We were pleasantly surprised. We started with the nachos appetizer (with beef), They were plentiful and had lots of chopped tomatoes & onions, black beans, ground beef, and sour cream (which requested and received on the side). My (Mexican) husband said the best part was that the chips were freshly made. I wasn't blown away by the nachos but they were definitely good and slightly above my expectations. I would definitely go back for drinks and order the nachos again. Best part...our entrees - beginning with my son's who ordered the bacon smoked cheddar burger with fries. I tried a few of the fresh-cut fries from his plate and they were awesome! I know different people like their fries prepared different ways, but these made all three of us happy. The burger was huge and my 13 year old with a super size appetite couldn't even finish it all. My husband ordered the Southwest burger. I included a picture of it because we were so blown away. This thing was huge! Not only was it huge, it earned the following description from my very picky husband, "fresh and amazing". Lastly, I went out on a limb ordering something that could have been a huge flop, especially taking into consideration the surroundings, which were cozy and inviting, but nevertheless, there was no mistaking that we were in a BAR. The 8oz. KC Strip was priced reasonably at $15 and came with parmesan, garlic, horseradish spuds (mashed potatoes), grilled asparagus, and blvd. pale ale-battered red onion rings. I ordered the steak medium (sad, I know), but it was cooked perfectly and still very juicy and flavorful. Asparagus had that great grill taste and was just the right amount of crispy. Potatoes were good, not amazing, but good. And the onion rings pretty much melted in my mouth. The presentation was really nice for this entree and I should have taken a picture. You'll just have to take my word for it. We will definitely be returning to Bar West.

Bar West is not far from my home and many of my friends have made it a regular drinking spot but after buying a groupon or something similar my hubby and I decided to try it out for lunch. The lunch crowd is pretty much non-existent so there is no wait staff, just a bar tender, but she did a fine job serving us. I had the BLT and thought it was really good. The fries were good when they first came out and were piping hot but once they cooled off they were just mediocre. Guess next time I'll eat them first :-) My husband had a chicken sandwich and also thought it was good. Given the other choices in that area I'm not sure I'd go back if I didn't have a coupon - if paying full price I'd pick Barley's over Bar West. But with a Val Pak coupon which they seem to have frequently, I'd go back.

This place is a hidden gem worth checking out- we always look for good places near KCIC after skating and their happy hour specials are legit. The service was perfect and I would much rather go here than any of the other places that surround the area.

When it comes to sports bars, every one I've been to has some kind of gimmick. Some have too many televisions, some are karaoke bars, 50 cent wells, etc. Bar West has a charm to it that I can't explain. The staff is awesome at what they do, Barry (the owner) always greets me with a smile and gives me the hospitality I expect, and the drinks are always cold, inexpensive, and are not shy of stiffing you on their pour. Now, time for what might be (for the most of you) on your minds, "How's the food?" This is a big game changer when it comes to bars, because typically, bar food is bland, boring, and definitely not worth the money (aka Tanner's). Believe it or not, Bar West has good food, damn good! Actually, I'm stunned when I ate here the first time, because I really didn't expect a locally-owned bar to adapt this type of quality. Now, on to the bar aspect of it. This bar has a nice feel to it. It almost reminds me of the 80s sitcom "Cheers". You want to go where everybody knows your name? This is your go to local drinking establishment. There's plenty of TVs, a nice little patio to smoke or enjoy the weather, and overall, very clean and well ran. I'm sure everyone is wondering, "Well, why didn't you give Bar West a perfect score, if it's so great?" I have just a very small beef with a few things, that only someone like me would notice. My first nitpick is if you're a smoker, the patio is just a little too small for my liking. I know it isn't anyone's fault for this, but I figured it would be acknowledged. If it were bigger, I wouldn't feel like I was a caged animal on busy days. Minor issue, but I wouldn't let it stop you from visiting. Another little issue, is the general size of the whole joint. I feel that they should expand the bar! It's a great place. Why not get it a little more square footage? I definitely feel that a bar like this doesn't come around very often, and I do believe this place deserves, no, has the right to get the recognition. Bar West, if you had to go toe to toe with a Tanner's or any other conglomerate chain as such, I'd always go to you and give the other fat cat the fattest part of my ass to kiss. Cheers!

This is a clean, modestly-sized bar and grill on Renner Road just north of KU Med West. Lunch hour is pretty slow here and the bartender takes care of the whole place. Folks seemed to be getting fed quickly enough, so no complaints there. And the server was very friendly and efficient. My main beef is with the menu which is pretty standard fare: burgers, wings, chicken sandwiches, chef salads, nachos, etc. One might say that Bar West has a more upscale approach but this really isn't true any more. It's now possible for any restaurant to get waffle fries, pretzel buns and chipotle mayo delivered from Sysco and other food vendors. The day's special was 3 ground beef tacos for $5.99. Um, no thanks. My pork tenderloin sandwich was enormous and hand-breaded but clumsily so. The meat was a little tough and the whole affair was utterly flavorless. Conversely, the fries had so much seasoning salt sprinkled on them that I could barely eat any. This place is just...a little boring. The decor is drab and uninspired and the lights are a little lower than they should be. Being kind of a sports bar, there are naturally TVs everywhere and no place to sit where you can ignore them. All in all this was a mediocre experience. Maybe if you were trapped in Western Shawnee and really needed a drink some night you could pop over for a Corona or a Captain and Coke. But there are plenty of places like The Peanut or Charlie Hoopers that have this kind of broad appeal but do it much better. I think Bar West benefits from being far enough out in Shawnee that it doesn't have much competition.

How many other coupon-aholics are out there, besides myself...come on we all have went somewhere to eat only because it was a buy one get one free! That's why I picked this place. The Valu Pak coupon in question was a buy one sandwich get one free. So we hoofed in and ordered, showing the waitress the coupon ahead of time....sometimes they get huffy if you whip out a coupon when the check arrives...... She politely pointed out that in extremely small writing, the coupon was only good at lunch time. It was not lunch time. I need to read these things more closely. She did offer to get us free nacho chips and salsa, which was the accompanying coupon on the same page. We ordered a Chicken Philly and a supreme BLT. The BLT was on pretzel bread and adorned with a sweet honey mustard sauce that was actually a good addition to a BLT. can you tell I was surprised at this fact? The chicken philly on the other hand was on a hoagie roll, and that was about all I tasted was the bread. Chicken chunks (not shredded)were not as plentiful as I would have liked and fried to a crisp, losing some of the potential flavor. Cheese was a slice of swiss.....I think...it really didn't have much taste.. A sandwich that I wasn't thrilled with, and paying double what I had planned when we went in, kind of soured my experience here. The BLT was good, but could make at home if you but pretzel bread and a bottle of honey mustard dressing. Most people were only there for an after work drink, from the looks of things, we seemed to be the only ones ordering food.........an omen? Probably would be a good place to meet friends for a quick beer, and maybe other food offerings are better....but first impressions only happen once, and there is no undoing that .....

We went to this place because it is close to a friends apartment. We went to watch a k-state game and were pleased to see there were plenty of wildcat fans there, and also a few Ku fans. We have been back multiple times since. Our waitresses are always very friendly and nice. I had the philly cheese steak sandwich but had it on pretzel bread instead of a hoagie, also with a side of au jus ( I was really torn between the philly and steak sandwich). BUT it was so delicious!! They turned down the lights at like 4 in the afternoon on a rainy though and it made the room way too dark. The waitress commented that they have to turn them down, but i think the owner should reconsider the time at which the lights go down. All in all its definitely my new favorite sports bar

I got the potato skins and they were MOIST and not crispy. They had liquid cheese on them, not good for skins, it just turns them into non crispy pieces of potato. They tasted okay but the texture was just WRONG for potato skins
