Not feeling too hungry I ordered the $5.99 chicken leg with jello and a salad. Yes, jello on the adult side of the menu. But sadly they were out of jello but the cook threw in an extra freshly made chicken leg (!) and the waitress let me get my salad from the salad bar. Great meal. The hubs, on the other hand, made the unwise choice of fish and mashed potatoes. Fish in Kansas is as scary as it should be. Shaped like hockey pucks these things somehow looked worse than the cheapest box of frozen fish patties you'd find at Walmart. The chef chose to pair them with mash covered in white gravy, which was cold. I ate it anyway. It went great with my chicken legs. The waitress was very attentive and speedy.

I think this place has a chance to be a great place. The menu is good. The staff is friendly. The food is good - I had a cheeseburger and homemade fries. I think the interior needs updating - it is clean and neat already. I would stop here again.

To be honest, I think this place is pretty nice and cozy! The buffet depends but usually the chicken and potatoes are GREAT! Nice place to stop and have a nice lunch or dinner!

Had dinner last night (Friday in Lent) here. They put on an awesome buffet of shell and fin fish. Oyster, shrimp, clam strips, crab legs, tilapia, mahi mahi, cod, etc. Everything was perfectly cooked, and it was all you can eat. We watched one table go back for the crab legs four times while we ate. They must have really liked them. Place was crowded by the service was terrific.

Food okay, service could have been a lot better. I had the salad bar, my husband had the buffet and loved it. Our waitress helped a guest that arrived after our family, then filed the salad bar then helped us. She saw us walk in and sit, wasn't impressed, especially since I have a busy 2 year old. She was mad we showed up an hour before closing I guess? My hubby liked it that's why it got any stars.

The other reviewers got it right...fast, friendly, clean, older place with a boring, tired salad bar. Iced tea served in a real glass, and the chili was from scratch. We wouldn't go a distance to stop here, but it got us back on the road with no regrets.

Ok WTF?!?! First and least. THE SWEET TEA SUUUX!!!! Second and more importantly. I got the soup and salad bar plus a glass of tea. $10.00. Not a big deal really. BUT!!!! My friend got the full Buffett that comes with soup salad and drink for the same $10.00!!! So again I ask,WTF?!?!?! No thanks, will never be back.

Driving through Kansas put us in the mood for a big slab of meat. So, after we spent a hot, dusty hour at Prairie Dog Town (time well spent, I must add), we decided we needed a steak. The Colonial Steakhouse is the only real restaurant in close proximity. After reading the other 3 reviews posted here, we figured we'd risk it. We both ordered the Kansas City Rib Eye, medium rare with a baked potato, and an order of onion rings. The rings were delicious and were a perfect accompaniment to our perfectly cooked steaks. I hoovered half of mine down right away and had to tell myself to slow down and enjoy it! The soup and salad bar were fine. The sweet hot rolls that came with our meal were tasty. The service was attentive and friendly. Nothing to drive way out of your way for, but definitely well worth it if you're nearby.

Our waitress was friendly, however the busboy who sat us was not. The flat iron steak was great, but the chicken fried chicken was mediocre. Great place to stop for steak not much else.

Good service, good variety, plenty of option. Service was prompt and prices were very reasonable. It was nice to take a break from driving and to have some non fried options.

Well I must say that being a long distance truck driver teaches you to have low expectations whenever you venture into a new restaurant. So I wasn't surprised by anything I found here. The service sucked for sure. I was greeted only after I wandered over by the salad bar to see what was there. Upon being seated the hostess promptly took my beverage order an brought it back to me. However that's where the promptness stopped. As this was my first time here I was hoping for guidance around the menu. But that would've required my waitress to show up an greet me. That wasn't possible because she was busy socializing with another table that sat down several minutes after I did. She talked with them and took their order and almost as if I was a distraction from her chit chatting she asked if I knew what I wanted without even saying hello. Before I could ask for suggestions she was off to place the other tables order. Upon her return I ordered the dinner buffet an before I could finish my order she was off again. The salad bar was some what fresh and dinner buffet was nearing the end of its life. The fried chicken was a Tad bit dry however the breading was tasty an flaky not greasy. The fried shrimp had obviously been out to long an were slightly rubbery. The corn looked pale and flavorless. The mashed potatoes looked oily as if they were attempting to pass of instant potatoes as real by drowning them in fake butter like substance. The dinner roll was tasty even though it was Luke warm. Overall if your starving and to eat merely to survive then give it a try. Next time ill pass on this place for a bag of beef jerky and some pringles. It'll be cheaper and I wont be disappointed.

Driving on I-70 on a road trip, we found that the town of Oakley was deceptively far away from the highway, so we turned around and decided to give the Colonial Steakhouse a try. My husband tries to eat as little meat as possible, so we didn't have high hopes. The service was fast and friendly. We had drinks and menus in minutes. The menu had several cuts of steak as well as lots of typical American fare. My husband found fettuccine alfredo to eat, and even with the 2-oz cup of parmesan cheese, it was pretty bland. I had the hot and cold salad bar for $9.99. The salad bar had iceberg, shredded yellow cheese, cottage cheese, bell peppers, baby carrots, pudding, a cucumber and onion salad, and a few other items. The hot bar had canned green beans, instant mashed potatoes, a moist and delicious chicken fried chicken, very tasty fried chicken, beef slices, and a truly amazing beef gravy. Rolls and butter came with my meal, and garlic toast with my husband's. Both were fine. Would we go back if we were in the area again? Probably.

I stopped by this place on a road trip from NY to SF and was trying to find lunch. For a few miles, I saw signs for a steak house, and decided to try it. I ordered a lot of food, when you order lunch or dinner, it'll come with salad and soup from the bar. The salad isn't the freshest but the soup is decent. The soup I think could have been less salty and I wish the bread that came with our food was heated. I got a 20oz. rib eye which was decent. I ordered my steak medium-rare, but it came out more medium than medium rare. There wasn't too much taste, and a baked sweet potato that we ordered wasn't cooked long enough. All around decent steak house since it is hard to mess up a steak. This place is probably an average among steak houses, but it is one of the better choices when you're driving through nothingness.

Lots of locals inside. Fast, friendly service. I got the ribeye. Very tasty. I would definitely stop again.

The previous reviewer hit the nail on the head. If you're driving through nothingness (aka kansas) this place fits the bill. Not great, not bad but for the location it's the best I've found around western kansas that's not a chain. I've had the lunch buffet which usually offers good variety. The soup and salad bar is fine. Chili and chicken noodle were the choices last night and the chili was good. I had spaghetti and meatballs which were good but the garlic bread was salty (garlic salt I'm guessing).

We ate here last year after going to PrairieDog Town across the road. I have to mention that we sat in the parking lot for about 15 minutes looking at Yelp reviews of this place and then decided to try it despite the lukewarm reviews. After wandering around for an hour in the hot sun looking at a 5-legged steer and various other animals (it was awesome by the way!), the cool, dimly lit interior of the Colonial Steakhouse was a welcome respite. My husband and I both ordered a NY Strip, medium rare. They both came out perfectly cooked, topped with a crispy onion ring, flanked by a baked potato. Everything was extremely tasty. This led me to the conclusion that when one eats at a steakhouse, the best thing to order is, you guessed it, a steak! (I'm empathetic to the plight of a vegetarian on a roadtrip in the Midwest, but it's not called "alfredo house" for a reason.) Having eaten there a year ago, things may have changed since then, but this place struck me as having been the same since around 1970! The waitstaff was friendly and efficient, our food was delicious. If we find ourselves in Oakley, KS again, we'll definitely stop here for a tasty hunk of meat!

The colonial steakhouse is a culinary clash between the old world and the new, combining the rural fashion of the Midwest west with the competing new age fighting to take over. The club sandwich is really an interesting take on an entry vessel to get copious amounts of butter into your body in a short period of time, which as an American I held a moment of silence after eating it(also possibly caused by momentary cardiac arrest). Don't forget to get the biscuits and tip your waitress.

This place has to be the WORST I have ever been to and not because of the food but rather the Poor Service and Extremely Rude Manager! My friend and I had my 6 yr old granddaughter with us on our way to Denver when we came upon this place and thought it would be a great choice since we had seen nothing but Fast Food for miles. She and I ordered the Buffet and ordered the Chicken Strip child's meal for my grandchild. The waitress brought the drink and jello to my little one, my friend and I got plates from the buffet and started eating. Of course when some time went by and I had not seen our server and my granddaughter asked for a bite of food from my plate I gave it to her! The baby was HUNGRY and still waiting on her food! Finally at 7:50 pm I see the waitress and ask if I am supposed to get the baby her chicken from the buffet? She commented that it would be out in a few minutes. I told her that we had ordered at 7:10 pm and now at 7:50 my friend and I were done eating and the child STILL waiting for her food! At that point she noticed that I had fed my grandchild some chicken nuggets and cherry tomatoes from my plate and stated that she could not eat from my plate and would have to charge me for another buffet. I told her if the child had not waited nearly an hour for food that she was STILL waiting for she would have need to eat from my dish and I was NOT paying for another buffet and I would not sit and eat in front of a hungry child so I gave her a couple a chicken nuggets! Just as the manager comes over the waitress brings the chicken strips and fries, which were not even hot. I explain the situation to the manager, who says " There Were Lots Of Orders Ahead Of Yours!" to which I replied that if this were the case we should have been informed and given the option of ordering a child buffet for her and that we had waited nearly an hour, the adults were finished and she had just gotten her food but we needed to be on the road. He said they could box it to go. I explained that my friend has a brand new car and did not want anyone eating in the car and the point is that after almost an hour we finally get cold food! The manager scowled, reached across the table and snatched the plate away from my 6 yr old granddaughter, shoved it toward the waitress and says "Take It Back Then!" and he turned and stomped away! SERIOUSLY?! You keep a HUNGRY 6 year old waiting for food, serve it cold then place it in front of her and then snatch it away?! Needless to say that If Colonial Steakhouse were the ONLY place to eat between St. Louis and Denver I would NEVER go there again!
