I cannot rave enough about Bluestem Bistro. I don't know why we waited so long to visit this place, but once we did, we were hooked! I always get the toasted caprese on ciabatta, and it is amazing, I love it so much! The staff is friendly, the coffee is really good! They're also kid friendly, my daughter loved their spaghetti. As far as drinks, their almond joy latte, grasshopper mocha, and honey nougat latte are phenomenal! (all alcohol free, but they do have those with alcohol pretty much, just with different names, haven't tried, but they look good.)

Been to Bluestem a few times for breakfast, coffee and to have some bakery items made up. They have a nice patio for outside dinning and it's a good spot for getting brunch when the weather is nice out. The staff has always been friendly and helpful with and making recommendations for people that can't decide or who are new. The power outlets are open for a quick charge and you can get cozy if you need a study spot.

Why a 3 star, well ... because I went here twice on a short trip and the first experience was a 2, the second was a 3.5. I like that they offer a labeled paleo menu. Problem was, I went there for breakfast and there wasn't a paleo breakfast option. I ordered a smoothie instead, but that wasn't filling enough. The rest of their breakfast menu was pre-made and stored in the display case. I don't know if they make those themselves, but the pita pockets the rest of my party ordered were not that great. They just didn't look fresh or home made. It's just eggs and ingredients. It should look made by a person, not a machine (little perfectly round egg disks ... yuk). Then I went back for lunch to experience that paleo menu. I ordered the paleo chicken alfredo which is made with suash strings for the pasta and a coconut based alfredo sauce. It was good. Two things that can improve .. I ordered my lunch to go. The container they put it is was a standard doggies box and it leaked everywhere. Know your product and put that thing in a seal-able tub or something. Also, offer more of that squash spaghetti. There was plent of sauce, but I was wanting more to sop it up with. Other than that, this dish was really good, really innovative, and will probably bring me back to try the rest of the menu. Work on a paleo breakfast guys. It can even be simply egg based with some paleo options to add on, in, and around (sides). Not to complicated.

Bluestem is conveniently located in Aggieville but just has a very uninspired food menu. I suppose it is fine for someone with basic tastes but I just find it boring. When my dad visited, we went here and he made me walk out because he didn't see anything appealing on the menu. I have come here for gatherings in the private conference room as well as informal lunch meetings with colleagues. I have tried a panini, pizza, salad, mac n cheese - all obviously basic types of food. The quality is fine but it is certainly nothing gourmet. What I do like is that Harney and Sons tea is available. It is a good place to meet and grab a drink but I'd recommend skipping the food unless you like quiche, soups, and salads a lot.

If you're looking for a local hangout à la 90210's Peach Pit or Saved By The Bell's Max (And why wouldn't you be?), Bluestem Bistro is your spot. Come anytime of day and you'll find a menu that offers a selection of home-cooked, classic items that will do the trick and keep even the picky eaters among your group happy. While nothing I've had here is rave-worthy, it seems that food is often a secondary reason for coming to Bluestem: The venue is quirky, friendly, and generally packed, and you'll find college kids buried in their laptops, families enjoying a leisurely brunch on the outdoor patio, and study groups frantically working in corners in hushed tones. It's a true community local, a place where you know the baristas by name, have the wifi password saved in your phone, computer and tablet, and don't feel strange about eating multiple meals while you camp out by the power source. And for that, it's absolutely awesome.

I've only been to this place twice on different occasions because I'm from Wichita, so I can't just pop in whenever I want but I was very pleased both times. The first time I was there for lunch I believe I had the Bacon Turkey melt which was very good. The second time I was in town I got the Almond Joy Latte and I haven't stopped talking about it since! It was excellently crafted and was way better than I expecting! I have asked for it at local coffee shops here in Wichita and they just don't compare! The layout is open and spacious and the baristas here are super friendly! The price is reasonable, but what you would expect from lost coffee shops. I will definitely recommend this place to the next person I hear headed to Manhattan!

Had a great vibe. It's the kind of place where you can either grab a coffee and work, or get some cheap, local beers and hang out with your friends.

Delicious waffle lollies -- I tries the Chocolate City with melted nutella!

The food, atmosphere, and the jazz band they had was all great! Great place for a Sunday brunch!!! I had the burrito which was excellent along with coffee and the best orange juice I have wee had (freshly squeezed). Would definitely go back.

I did not enjoy my experience at this establishment. I purchased a 'bottomless coffee' and did not refill it once. I had to leave quickly due to a change in plans and they wouldn't give me a small to go cup. We had a breakfast burrito which you warm up in the microwave. It would be nice if that was on the menu. The biscuits and gravy was ok.

I always make it a point to go to Bluestem when I am in Manhattan. It's a local bistro that has amazing fresh food and incredible desserts. I always seem to go when it's not so busy but I have heard that it gets quite busy during the lunch hour. The patio is great when it's nice outside and the whole atmosphere of the place is great. I highly recommend eating here or just stopping to get something from the bakery menu!

My two friends and I ate here for lunch but I'm not sure how we decided on this place. lol I think it was the Yelp ratings that lead us here. It was around 12:40pm on a Sunday when we came in and there was a semi-short line. The place was relatively full with a few tables here and there available. Since it was Sunday, they had their Sunday brunch menu up. I saw on the floor that they had a bunch of other menus that would probably be swapped in for whichever day it was. There was also a LCD monitor that showed the specials for the day. I ordered a Breakfast Burrito that came with fruit for $5.99 and an original bubble tea ($3.25). I was thinking the original bubble tea would be something that I was used to; however, that wasn't the case and I was disappointed. My friends ordered a Breakfast Sandwich and a Potato Salsa Quiche. We waited for our food to come which took awhile especially my order. My Breakfast Burrito was okay but was better when I added some Cholula Hot Sauce. I like that hot sauce especially with eggs which was in my breakfast burrito. The potatoes on my plate didn't taste good to me so I didn't finish them. The fruit tasted fresh so that's good. The interior of this place totally felt like a place where college students could grab a bite (or drink) to eat and study. There was a room that could probably hold a few people which seemed more private than the rest of the place. They brew their own beer (I think that's what the girl said) and that we could try some for either $4.99 or $5.99 (unless I misheard completely). We declined politely but it got me wondering how it tasted like. Oh well...

Yummy salads. Greek is my favorite. The variety of textures and flavors in it is perfect. It's cool they have Paleo and gluten-free options, since that is still pretty rare in Manhattan. The quality of the Sencha (green tea) they have is very good. Baked goods need a lot of work though. I've tried a lot of different things and haven't had anything that is give more than a 5/10. The baristas are very nice here, never douchey or rude.

First off, Bluestem has the second best cup, of coffee in Manhattan, a recent addition to the coffee scene probably has it topped. The space is ok, not great, though the patio area can be really nice in the right weather. The chow is very good. From continental fare to burritos and quiches, it is all good. Not really a breakfast joint as much as it it a coffee house, though one with a lot of food options. Waitstaff has always been very friendly and sincere. In all, a really great coffee hangout.

A pretty good place to hang out with best friends. My favorite there is sugar free vanilla latte. I'm sure it's one of the most popular places to stay to study, to have breakfast, to enjoy your free time. Great place!

Counter service was friendly. Pasta dish was flavorless (though very inexpensive). Wine selection was okay (also inexpensive). Chocolate cake was a write off. Feels more like a coffee shop than a bistro.

The Bistro Study Hall The sound of keyboard clicks and dishwashing overwhelms the atmosphere. The white noise of concentrating students and baristas soothes the ears as the melody of Fleetwood Mac plays on the speaker above me. Brown chairs filled with backpacks & bodies litter the red and white tiled floors. The concentration of this relaxing environment brings me to a calm place where I can focus on any task. The ever so often whiff of fresh baked cookies from the pastry display teases my nose, and makes my mouth water. I can taste the familiar sweet memories from growing up with grandma. A handsome man sitting across the dining room continues to glance my way and smirk. The suede chair that cushions my back provides me with a comfortable setting to people watch, and get homework done.

Great ambiance, and awesome staff! The sandwiches are pretty good esp. the chk. salad and curry tuna. its a nice place to hang out with friends and study, or just grab a cup of coffee. The coffee isnt as good as Radinas but its ok. The entrees of pasta is definitly hit or miss, as was stated in the prior reviews, all depends on who the cook is. The sandwhiches with the ciabatta bread I generally get the wheat nut brear just cuz the bread is so thick and generally just because of the bread itself i get full. I have to say my most favorite thing there is the salads. As for the breakfast burritos and quiche I dont think i would base my whole opinion on the place off of those; they arent the best, but those arent the only things they serve either. They dont serve any food items (ie sandwiches, pasta, pannini) past a certain time on sunday so if u come later on sunday the breakfast burritos and quiche and bakery items is the only stuff they will have.

This is a quaint, friendly, spacious coffee shop that doesn't offer much for vegans, but does have a pretty good chai. Actually, they have crappy Oregon chai, but then they also have an actual Indian black tea mix, which can be made with soy. Obviously go for the latter. Who knows, perhaps in the future they'll offer some simple vegan treats, or maybe even a tofu sandwich.

It's been a while since I've been here but I used to come here every Sunday and have the Banana Bread French Toast and a cup of either a Snickers or Milky Way Mocha. Definitely a great place with excellent ambiance and there's the usual crowd that you get to know so it always feels comfortable being there. I used to also get their Mac N Cheese when it's on special and their Chicken Jerusalem. What I noticed, though, it could be hit or miss with how your food is prepped based on who's there. Most days the food was good, though. I wasn't a fan of being stationed in Kansas, but it's cafe's like this that remind of being in the Bay... minus the water.

I liked the mocha a lot -- chocolate-y and not too sweet. I've had only one lunch there and found it disappointing, the bread was tough-almost hard- and salad not well-prepared. I haven't tried the baked goods, so DNK. I will definitely return for the mochas.

I had the white chocolate and raspberry scone with Earl grey. The scone was sweet and delicious. Free wifi and lots of seating.

This is almost like my second home here in Manhattan. The staff is very friendly, and the outdoor seating is in one of the most comfortable and pleasant outdoor spaces in Manhattan. Nice and laid back, delicious quiche and pizza, and local art on the walls. Check out the jazz band for Sunday brunch, as well.

I love bluestem! My favorite thing about the atmosphere is the indoor and outdoor seating! Also, I believe on Sunday mornings they have live music! Totally a great place for music, coffee and cupcake lovers!

One morning back when I first arrived in Manhattan, KS, I found myself looking for a breakfast place. That's when I came across this place. I didn't stay to eat, but I told myself I would definitely come back, and I did. The first time I went there to eat, I had dessert: chocolate cake. It was quite dry and a little hard. The second time I went there, I ordered a pasta dish to go. My order was packed in a box and it also came with a piece of foccacia bread. Both the pasta and bread were delicious! I went back another time and ordered salad which was also delicious. My only qualms is that the portion is at times a bit on the measly side, but that's because they serve the kind of food that does make you want more. I guess for the price I'm paying, it's a fair deal. As far as the place itself, it's usually quite clean. I can usually find a place to sit. Otherwise, I'd get my food to go. In the summer, customers can sit outside. The utensils also looked pretty clean. I will go back to try other dishes on their menu.

Great local coffee house! Lots of options when it comes to food drinks and pastries. Bottomless coffee is a plus too! There is a real nice out door section and tones of seating inside as well.

Bluestem Bistro is a great, locally owned place and a hallmark of the Manhattan community. Food is fresh and all made from scratch. It also boasts the only legitimate bakery in town. Great place for showcasing local music and art. There is a meeting room that is free for the community to use for events, etc. You have to check this place out if you are from out of town or a long time Manhattan resident. Homemade macaroni and cheese on Mondays, house specials on Wednesdays and homemade deep-dish pizza on Fridays! Go early for lunch, they tend to run out of the specials by 2pm!

While this town will always have too many sandwich and burger joints and not enough international food (come on people there's a uni here with tons of intl students!) Bluestem is a keeper. You can tell the recipe and food makers are passionate and serious about providing yummy food. The staff is always nice and the outdoor seating is perfect.

From the outside looking in, I was expecting a different experience. The word bistro conjured up thoughts of candlit dining in a quaint spot. But alas, this is a college town, and the experience was different. Nice spot, though. Lots of students, laptops, ipods, study groups, coffee consumption. I was there for dinner. I ordered the spinach lasagne which was served with a small salad and their bread of the day. The lasagna was nice and spicy with lots of fresh basil and spinach. The presentation was nice. Serving size left me a little hungry though. However, like the other reviewer said, the for the price, that makes sense.

I don't agree with the pricing rating. It's a tad expensive for my taste. However, the food was good, the coffee refreshing and the atmosphere slow, quiet and relaxed. Screw Starbucks and their obnoxiously loud music.

Bluestem Bistro is a great little place in Aggieville. Very good coffee, great atmosphere, good people. Having their liquor license makes this a good place to have a night cap as well as a fantastic breakfast spot.

This is a nice place for dessert and coffee. I like the student atmosphere and casual flair. Haven't had many real meals here, but it is a favorite spot to stop later in the evening for a sweet treat.

Bluestem makes a decent hot chocolate. They have wifi, a group study room. +1 star for boozy coffee creations.
