Gluten free options that are decadent and truly tasty. Beautiful setting for an anniversary dinner. Live jazz music. I'm definitely going back.

Came here for brunch. Was amazing! Wide variety of yumminess. Got here at 11am and had no wait. I anticipate it being really busy after 12 when the huge church next door lets out. Definitely be back.

After a BBQ at a friends house, we passed by the Gaslight Grill. Our kids had been so good at the overcrowded house, we wanted to reward them with desserts. First, my wife checked in; 9:15, is it crowded? are they closing soon? Do they mind if we come in for desserts and drinks? They assured us all was good. 14 mins to be greeted. Only 2 other tables in the restaurant. Then, with this big selection of cordials, cocktails, coffee drinks, and desserts, I ask our server for hot chocolates for our kids to go with their desserts. He doesn't even try and tells me they don't have any. To be an ass, I hold my ground and offer him at least 3 ways to make it. Eventually he comes up with them. 4 desserts, 2 hot chocolates, a coffee drink, and a cordial later, all was delicious, the kids loved their first experience with live jazz and even danced on the dance floor bringing smiles to the old guys faces. I hated (not really ) pushing the waiter into being a server, but it paid off, not only for us, but because he finally put forth effort and made the evening wonderful, for the server as well as I left a 40%. to hopefully get across the message, show a little care and it will eventually pay off for you.

Gaslight grill is situated near a church. So on Sundays, this seems like the place for all the church goers to frequent. We asked for a 10:30am reservation on a Sunday, but was told only 10:15am was available then 11:15 and so on. Ok, fine 10:15am it is. Arrived at that time, and was sat in the back in the "music room". It was not busy at all. So I didn't understand what the 15 minute difference was all about. The host and servers were very nice! Food was good for a buffet. ($23 per person) They offer eggs Benedict which is made to order. It comes with the buffet price, but was lacking in flavor for me. They had everything from salmon to bacon. Also had an area with a dessert area and fruit smoothies. A tip for you, orange juice is not free refills... $2.50 for a medium glass that they didn't inform us of the extra price and no free refills. So just go get the fruit smoothies near the dessert area which is free. I would go again.

This place is five star heavy! Went here for a celebration after hearing many good things-no disappoint here. I had the Fried Lobster- woo-wee! Scrumptious and creatively plated on the half shell with whipped Yukon potatoes and green beans. My hubby had the filet with asparagus and whipped potatoes which was to die for. Some of my our other dining counterparts had the Lamb Chops and t

We came for brunch and it was really good. It was kind of weird because it was Sunday and we decided to go to brunch at like 9am before church so my husband called and they said they had a 10, 10:30, and 1pm reservations open. I had to be somewhere by 2:30....so I looked on open table and they were wide open. I booked a Noon reservation, we got right in and they weren't even busy. So that was kinda weird they said that over the phone. Once we got there everything was great. The service was awesome! We had the buffet and the food was excellent. I loved the mac and cheese, the prime rib was good, jambalya was delish! Bacon was good, just your normal brunch stuff. The desserts were extra good :) haha but all in all the brunch was excellent! I'd come back.

I had Atlantic salmon and my friend has mahi mahi. Personally, I felt my food was too salty, so I tried my friend's mahi mahi. It was yummy and I like the mashed yam around it. The live jazz is delightful and smooth. I wish I can just sit there whole night and enjoy it. My waitress was Christine in the Back Room (the Jazz Room). She was very friendly and detail oriented. When we had question about what sauce was made of, or what was what, she was always very knowledgable. I used the Groupon $60 for 2 people. I feel my money was worth it, and did I mention jazz was good? Oh, yeah! It was really good! I was bobbing my head all the time. Jazz is one of USA's best national treasure. I can't live without jazz.

We came for my birthday and I have to tell you this was a wonderful birthday dinner. I had the rack of lamb, my mom had the special stuff salmon. But the shining stars were the pork chop the strip steak and the risotto. We will be back for sure. Dick hawk even came by the table also our server Jake was top notch, making this a wonderful night.

We've only been there for brunch, so this review is based on that. It is one of the best brunchs in town (and we go to brunch at various places every Sunday). Buffet is very good and they have made to order eggs benedict. The only downside is that it's pretty pricy. We only go there for brunch on special occasions.

Had a great experience here last night to celebrate a romantic birthday with my boyfriend. We sat in the back where the live jazz played and had great service. The owner of the restaurant was there and was very personable. He was guest playing with the musicians and announced happy birthday to my boyfriend while playing. They also placed happy birthday confetti on the table and we had dessert on the house. All around the experience was wonderful and the staff definitely made the night special. Would go back!

Got a last minute reservation and arrived way too early but were greeted and seated right away. The hospitality did not end there. Our server was wonderful as was each person who either filled a drink or picked up a plate from our table. Even when leaving we were thanked by several staff/servers. Our first round of drinks came out so fast I swear they made them before we ordered!! Never had an issue with timing of the food or drinks even when it began to get busy. Appetizer: BBQ shrimp-delicious Dinner: Dick Hawk Steak-delicious, butternut squash risotto-a little gummy in texture, but tasted good Dessert: Crème Brule-tasted good, but needed a thicker crust of sugar on the top to be perfect Cocktails: Perfect Manhattan-perfect, Long Island Ice tea-very good, Chocolate Charlie-YUM! We were glad we made the trip to try Gaslight Grill and we will defiantly be returning.

I can only speak for the dessert and ambiance. Price: Steakhouse pricing of about $25 per entree. Parking: Lot... usually easy to find. Service: Ehh... nothing to complain about. They're usually fast and friendly Food: We ordered the chocolate cake, pumpkin cheesecake, and creme brulee. I'm not a fan of creme brulee so I can't speak on that, but my friends said it tasted fantastic. The pumpkin cheesecake was so rich and delicious. I would order that again. THE CHOCOLATE CAKE. Don't get me started on that. I am a lover of chocolate and a hands down lover of this cake. It is the best chocolate cake I have ever had. It was so moist and delicious and full of gluten. Notes: LIVE JAZZ. You'll witness super cute older couples dancing. So adorable. Gluten-free-ers: Unsure. This was during my non-gluten free times. Overall: I'll come again with some friends for dessert because their desserts are hands down fantastic. I hope to try their entrees as well.

What a great experience this was! The food and atmosphere were outstanding, & I absolutely adored the jazz band that played. I had the Oscar Filet and it was incredible! If you're ever in Kansas check this place out!

Came here for dinner today, had 2 groupons available to use since we had a table for 5 (4 adults and 1 kid). I set up a 515pm reservation through open table app on my phone. We arrived to the restaurant and was seated promptly and was greeted by a friendly and helpful server named Lena. I ordered the dick hawk ribeye which is 20 ounces, it came with a twice baked potato and asparagus. The steak was cooked a perfect medium which to Gaslight standards is a slight pink in the middle. Lena was always near by and checking in on our table and always on top with the refills. Our server was on her A game, highly recommended if you can sit in her area. She worked with are group and used both of the groupons which were allowed since we had a table of 5 and she wiggled in a living social (expired) deal as well. The restaurant was clean along with the restroom. I will come here again and I hope that I get another great meal with a top notch server. Make sure you get the bread.

This place ranked right up there with some of the best salmon I've ever had; and I lived in the Northwest for 8 years. The salmon had some sort of pistachio glaze on it, asparagus and risotto under it. All was superb! My wife had sea bass which was equally amazing! Their gumbo appetizer wasn't very good as well as their Belgian chocolate cake. The main entrees made up for it though. Of course this isn't the cheapest place you'll ever eat but it's with splurging every now and then!

  • Amy S.

Food was good. We went for brunch so it was a buffet style. They were making to order omelets. Most places don't do that. It was on the higher end of price but we felt was worth it.

Just ate here tonight for the second time. We sat in the bar since happy hour was going on. I wish I could remember the name of our server because he was just amazing! The food was great too. During happy hour (4-7pm) they have really good food and drink specials if you sit in the bar or on the patio. About 10 appetizers to pick from for $5 each. Beers for $2-3 and other drinks for $5 and up. We had a groupon which was our reason for dining tonight, but will definitely be back again.

Gaslight was possibly the best steak I have ever eaten and certainly one of the best & memorable dinners for me and my wife in 20 years of marriage. Gaslight will be our new favorite place to eat for special occasions.

After hearing encouragements from my radio, we decided to head out on a Saturday night for a late dinner (post 7pm). Seating in the 'music room' was easily accommodated as there were many tables available. I was glad that so many other diners chose the main dining room. Why was that??? Problem was, if you aren't prepared to order something on your first approach by your server--you'll pay the consequences. Since this was our first visit, we naturally needed to review the menu before we could order a wine or cocktail wishing (apparently in a silly fashion) to coordinate the flavors. Ten songs from the band later--30+minutes--we were again approached to get a first-drink order. It took another 20 minutes for that to be delivered before even placing a dinner order. Being on-notice that whenever we saw our server we needed be be prepared to 'do-business' we pre-scheduled our intended items so that when we glimpsed him in our vicinity we could register our preference of items. Food came out as expected, very edible, and ample in portions, however dramatically un-seasoned. Service was negligent. The musicians and host are greatly appreciated as they gave us a welcome distraction to our lack of service. Perhaps the few servers working the music room was the reason others had chosen the non-music room???

Went there for my wife's birthday. Midge was our server and she was attentive and described the specials well. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer. Yummy! The bread was done perfectly and the toppings plentiful. My wife ordered a basic salad and I had a salad of asparagus, portabellos, greens and a balsamic dressing. Luscious. I had a filet and lobster tail with bacon roasted potatoes, asparagus, and roasted mushrooms. She had a salmon stuffed with crab, lobster, and shrimp in a burre blanc sauce over risotto. Decadent as hell! But worth it. Dessert was creme brulee for her and a triple decker carrot cake for me. A little pricey, all in all, but as a big guy, I waddled away extremely pleased with everything!

Incredible, as always. Love the live jazz band. Owner is kind and a great piano player! They have great food, the staff are kind and helpful, and it is located near the Prairiefire complex, making it a great spot for special events. They have free dessert for birthdays!

Go elsewhere. Overpriced. Bad service. Ran out of drinks 3 times. My fillet was dry. Ambiance is lacking! Too loud. Don't go here to celebrate anything special. Hereford House makes a better steak.

Had a reservation for 6. They really did a poor job of spacing tables. We had to move our table so that we could get to the chairs. No help from the staff. Food was fine but felt it was pricey. Not a place that I would seek out.

We came for Sunday Brunch it's always good....but two things they need to work on...please get straws that are in an individual wrapper....it's unsanitary to have a waiter bring straws to the table without a wrapper....Also please get some new chairs....every chair at our table was a little wobbly not only did a lady next to our table asked do your chairs wobble I said yes then we saw a guy sit down and the chair broke and he fell to the ground....sounds like this is a wake up call for the restaurant establishment...poor guy I know he was embarrassed....and even our waiter said these chairs are old...all this money we paying please make improvements....

Average food in a loud bar Went for happy hour, didn't get any drinks because honestly the specials were not that good. We got three of the $5 appetizers, the calamari was excellent, the chicken flat bread was good but went cold very quickly and the lettuce wraps were nothing to write home about. Don't really feel the need to come back, especially for happy hour. But might give it another try for the jazz evenings/dinner.

Celebrated my Birthday here with family. We had a reservation for 5:15. As we entered we were greeted by a friendly staff and promptly seated. Our server was great, she was able answer all our questions and make recommendations based on our personal tastes. We started the the Shrimp lollipops with a sweet Thai sauce, they were wonderful not your typical fried shrimp appetizer. For my main course I chose the Butternut Squash Risotto with scallops and jumbo shrimp. Perfectly cooked scallops with 2 of the biggest shrimp I think I have ever seen. The dish was very well prepared and so full of flavor. Everyone in our party was very pleased with their meal and the wonderful service. I am sure we will be returning. This place is a must for seafood lovers.

Had the private room for a company dinner. The appetizers - (sampler I guess) was pretty good. It consisted of shrimp, calamari, and crab cakes. The dinner - Ordered the KC strip, which was recommended by the server. It was average at best. It was served with a twice baked potato. These are usually my favorite side at most restaurants, however I was extremely disappointed. It was actually nothing like any I have ever had. Additionally, it was very expensive for the food and portions given.

On expense account so price does not really matter :-) First time here and based on Yelp reviews my expectations were set properly. Good (not great food) - had the Cajun Chicken and was tender but needed salt/pepper for flavor. Rest of meal was meh! Happy hour wine prices were great as an added bonus. Recommend as a try but not sure I will return with all of the other choices in the OP. Peace out....

Nice service. Owner visits most tables to see if you are happy. They correct and compensate for any poor service. Traditional meals options and god quality food. Great bar area with fireplace.

Amazing!! We went to dinner on the night before Valentine's day. There was a two hour wait for the dinning room, but no wait for the lounge. It was the same menu, excellent service and a shorter trip for the bartender to walk with out drinks ;) The good was beyond amazing. AND to top it off the owner, Dick Hawk, walked table to table introducing himself and getting to know his clientele. Busy nights are when restaurants show their true colors. Gaslight Grill handled the crowds flawlessly.

Have only been here for company wide gatherings so menu if pre-fix. However, service has been good - staff is very friendly. Food is solid. The salmon is delicious. Love the roasted potatoes - a bit crunchy on the outside.

We will never be returning. We had a plump caucasian male server in his 50s with gray hair and he made our experience horrific. The service was awful- our drinks were constantly empty and he NEVER came to check on us. But when he did visit our table he made it even worse by being extremely rude and demeaning. He single-handedly ruined our anniversary dinner with his constant rude remarks. Plus, my husband and I both got steaks and they were both burnt on the top (not good). The salads that we ordered with our dinner were $6 and came with 6 pieces of small lettuce. The salads if that's what I even should call them were a joke. If you have problems seeing the menu in dimly lit restaurants this one is not for you. There were several tables using the flashlights on their phones to read the menus and it was very distracting to other customers. UPDATE: I was never privately contacted to resolve this issue as the comment by Gaslight Grill suggests, so I can only assume that they meant that they identified the employee that I have described and have taken corrective measures with the employee.

Went with group for dinner Had a room set up separately for us. Lemon crab cakes and bacon wrapped shrimp for apps. Crab cakes were awful, shrimp was good, overlooked, but bacon fixes everything! There was only enough shrimp for 1/4 of us and none left in restaurant, remade maybe? Dinner was good, dessert was good. Service was good

Big open space. Looks like a lot of flexibility to configure areas, as needed. Several side rooms, including a 'private' space surrounded by walls of wine racks. Live jazz in the Back Room when we were there. Good service. Owner stopped by our table and made sure everything was going well. Waiter did a great job. Food was good.

This place is perfect for a special occasion or a romantic dinner. We took our little girlfriend here for her birthday dinner and we all agree that the food, the service, the ambience and the martinis were above and beyond. Our server was very personable and friendly. 'We had a hummus plate and crab cakes for starters. My GF and I had pomegranate martinis. YUM! The hummus included a roasted pepper and a cilantro pesto and oh boy was it GRAND! My GF and I ordered the fried lobster tail. OH MY HOLY JESUS! I expected the police to burst in at any moment and arrest me for daring to eat something so debaucherously (is that a word?) delicious. My mouth was blurting out all kinds of obscenities....it was THAT good! They serve it with a little fingerbowl of clarified butter. OMG, I did make an appointment to have my arteries augured out the next day but who cares? The lobster tail is sinful and obscene and a must EAT! It was served with a huge pile of garlic mashed potatoes and haricots verts. One of my GFs had the pork chops and they were so tender and tasty. The other GF had some kind of seafood salad that I didn't get to try. Ok, this place is waaaayyyyy pricey for a simple person like me but it is such a fun and delightful place to dine for a special occasion. Don't come in looking all shabby. I don't think they'll say anything but you may get a few disapproving stares. You don't have to wear a coat and tie or anything like that though. Oh, one downside...the crab cakes were boring....I'm not downing my rating just because of that. I LOVE THE GASLIGHT GRILL!

We celebrated our mom's 90th birthday in private banquet room. Staff accommodated us by allowing us ample lead time a day ahead to decorate the room with floral arrangements, storing & refrigerating same. We opted for the Sunday brunch, & they kindly extended their hours since we'd be late coming out of Mass. Gaslight Grill was SO WONDERFUL. Wait staff courteous and excellent. Fred, the manager, was most helpful in resolving any concerns. The food was exquisite. My nephew made a meal out of the prime rib. I recommend Gaslight Grill without hesitation!

  • Megan W.

I tried this place for the second time after not being super impressed with their bring menu over a year ago. I was very pleasantly surprised. The managers had a consistent presence throughout the evening at multiple tables, perfect lighting, amazing amazing food and great wine selection!

  • Phil Z.

Sunday brunch was priced too high for the quality of food and selection. The prime rib was raw, the guy could not even cut it. After hacking away for a while he finally got a slice for the women ahead of me. She said it looked raw, so the guy threw it on the frying pan used for the omelette station. I walked away. The rest of the food was marginal at best. On my last trip up to the buffet, I witnessed a waitress grabbing fruit from a serving bowl with her bare hands and putting in her mouth! The place was mostly empty, they better get their act together or it will be curtains for this joint. We won't be back.

made reservations for a saturday night for 4 and glad I did. we were promptly seated and ordered drinks. our waiter started off very nice but everytime I asked for an opinion on a food, app, drink, etc, he kept replying with "well its whatever you want". so we got ZERO suggestions other than the $58 special that night. I know i can order whatever I want, but as a employee of the restaurant, surely you have an opinion on what may be the tastiest or at least what is ordered most often. my husband ordered the blue cheese steak which came with NO blue cheese, when we asked the waiter about it, he said that we werent remembering the menu correctly, bc there is no blue cheese steak. (HE WAS WRONG) there was also zero blur cheese in the potato. he also forgot to bring our appetizer but ended up giving it to us for free. i ordered the filet and asked what my options were for a substitute instead of asparagus. I decided on the sauteed mushrooms which were CANNED mushrooms. WTF? if i am going to pay $35 for a steak, the most you could do is sautee me up some fresh mushrooms with butter and onions. very disapointing. oh and SKIP desert. we got the carrot cake and chocolate cake, both were dry, small and less than awesome. the best thing i can say is that my actual filet was very good, cooked perfectly and i could cut it with a fork. oh and the wine was good too. i may go back for a drink and listen to the music but the food is overpriced and was not crave-able.

Mother's Day brunch was not a good option for our first experience. Had read great reviews and thought the brunch would be a nice treat. It was terrible. Worse than some cafeterias, military included, I've been in. Cold food, frantic servers and everything tasted like it was from a box. I also enjoyed watching the kitchen staff serve themselves for the buffet while we waited to get our food. BLECH!

Two of us went for Sunday Brunch and when we arrived there was no waiting. We were being escorted to a high top table in the bar. We then asked for a low top because I explained to him I had hip replacement surgery and high tops were difficult for me. He then said do you want to sit at the couch? We then again told him we were eating brunch!?! We were taken back to the front and they still did not have anyone waiting, the person told us if we could not sit at high tops then it would be 45 minutes! I asked to talk to manager and the very SNIPPY man said he was the manager. I said to him, no one is waiting? He repeated to us very rudely, it will be 45 minutes! We left as we felt we were being bullied into sitting in the bar at the high top! For all the advertising this place does it was truly unbelievable the way we we were treated! The had two large booths in the bar but would not put us there?

I know... Gaslight Grill is considered by many to be a great date night place if you're in your sixties or above. But I'm going to have to buck the popular opinion... I am in my fourties... still fairly youthful and not super nerdy... or so I think. I think the problem with Gaslight Grill's reputation for being a more mature hangout... comes from the misconception ONLY... I am sure if more youthful people would give it a chance... they would find it to be pretty cool. And not just for date night... but for possibly meeting a new person... or two. The bar area is a great size for not only seating but standing room also. It's a lot better than many more "youthful" hot spots I can think of. Okay... so enough about the unfortunate reputation. Gaslight Grill has otherwise mastered the world of restaurants. They offer a classy, fresh menu. The prices are high... but go for happy hour and it can't be beat. The drinks are made by professionals rather than someone who applied for the position of bartender. Say "hi" to Stacy if you go! If you have a special event and need a classy venue... they have AMAZING open space and more intimate areas you can tuck away in... I sincerely hope you'll give Gaslight Grill a try.

Gaslight Grill is an Oasis steakhouse of Leawood. This place truly understands perfection from every angle. I had the Vintage Natural Kansas City Strip a couple times here, medium rare, and they get it right every single time. The seasoned steaks are perfectly seared and grilled to the temp requested. The steaks are well proportioned, and the honest pricing include all the sides you'll need (none of that a la carte BS). You could easily pay twice as much for the same quality steak elsewhere, but they're not in business to rip you off here. The owner, Dick Hawks, is very personable and always around. He sometimes plays a few Jazz tunes on the piano if you're lucky. He would make rounds and personally greet each table, which is the type of customer service you don't see anymore. The staff seems to enjoy their workplace which makes your experience positive. If you're looking for a classy place to have a great steaks and drinks, this is it. Cheers.

I have been to this restaurant twice and both times had horrible service. Tonight was no exception. The good is average and over priced. The service is reprehensible. Truly waited forty minutes for water to be served at our table. This restaurant is surrounded by many excellent choices. Drive by this place and head somewhere better!

Gas light grill was perfect for date night. They had extremely fresh bread (and that's all I ask for, for being a bread lover). The tempura battered shrimp with a Thai chili sauce was delicious. The sweet glaze with the spice complimented each other very well. They are known for their steaks. I had the filet oscar, Which was a perfect medium rare filet and my date had the blue cheese crusted rib eye which was also a perfect medium. The chives mashed potatoes were smooth and subtly flavorful. My filet came with a shrimp scampi risotto which was cooked really well and flavored just right. It was a great date and perfect evening of good food.

I posted my review from Yelp onto their website, and they responded with 48 hours. Fred, the GM, offered a gift certificate to have us back and give them another shot...fair enough. I accepted, and within a week I received his offer. We went back about a month later, this time on a Tuesday, and had a different server, and honestly different experience. I ordered a steak, my wife ordered chicken, and both were very good. Sides were also great...they make one of the best double-baked potatoes I've ever had...high praise indeed. Our server was different too, and this gentleman took great care of us. He was friendly, efficient, and knew his job well. I really had no complaints this time, and we were in and out in about 55 minutes...DRAMATIC improvement. I understand it was Tuesday, but still...compared to my last visit, I was grateful. We got a personal greeting from Fred, the GM, who wanted to ask about this experience, for which I gave high praise, and also received a visit from the owner of the restaurant, Dick Hawk. Nicest guy you could want to meet, and while I know he tries to make the rounds for most of his guests, it was still a nice gesture. Overall, Gaslight redeemed themselves, and hopefully they can continue the type of service and quality I received on my most recent visit.

We went here for my b-day, and the experience was wonderful. Best quality steaks in the KC Metro area, especially the blue cheese encrusted ribeye. They are pretty expensive, but the prices are well worth it considering the quality of the food and the portions served. Couldn't have been happier with our dining experience.

This place has a reputation as an old folks home. I gave the GG a try because if a Groupon and close proximity to my office. I threw away the stereotypes and made my way to the front door at 6:00 on a Friday night, I was greeted to ladies old enough to be my grandmother and I'm in my forties. As I looked around this cavernous restaurant that's all I saw, old folks. You know what? That's ok, this is their place and good for them. It's just not where I want to be. The service was average and the servers were friendly. I started with the lollipop shrimp and they were spicy and delicious! If the rest of the meal was going to be this good, I'd be hanging out with grandma more often! Being someone who adored fried fish of any kind, I was pleased to see Champagne battered Fish and Chips! I knew I had to get it. I also got a large shrimp and scallop for a few dollars more. The fish was bland along with the meager amount of tarter sauce I was given. They pieces were large and poorly cooked, one filet was under cooked and I had to spit it out. The fries, served under the fish, were soggy and limp. The scallop was good but the batter slid right off. The shrimp was also good. I expected a lot better for the high price. For dessert I tried the forgetful Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding. Sounds great but wasn't. It was served with a little caramel sauce, bananas and whipped cream. I ended up eating the bananas cream together and left the flavorless bread pudding alone. My lone cocktail was the Johnson County Cooler and was made with fresh cucumbers and I liked it a lot. Can't see returning with this mediocre food at a very high price point.

This is a wonderful restaurant that we have eaten at several times. The music is great, the food superb, and we plan on going back many times. Make sure you ask reservations for the back room. You will not be disappointed in the experience.

My husband and I came here Saturday night to celebrate his birthday. I was a bit worried because the reviews were not that great, but we had a Groupon for $20 off, so what the heck? We had reservations at 8:15 through Open Table and we were seated promptly. Our waitress took a while to get to our table, but she did stop by after we were seating for a few minutes and say she would be over soon. My husband thought that someone could have brought us water in that time. No big deal. Our waitress came and took our drink order and we gave her our meal order at the same time. I had told hubby that we were not supposed to get an entree over $31 according to the groupon, but the waitress told us that didn't matter. Hubby got his steak and I tried the salmon. We both ordered a cranberry, blue cheese salad. Our drinks and salad were delivered quickly. Husband's first bourbon and coke had "floaties" in it. Looked like lime to me.I think he actually got a rum and coke. The waitress replaced promptly. The salad was yummy. Great flavors. The bread is crunchy Italian bread - not stale as someone else described it. It's supposed to be crunchy like that. Our entrees came out about 15 or 20 minutes later. Water was filled up whenever needed. I drink a lot of water, but my glass was never dry. Everything was great. My husband liked his steak and loved the bacon/chive mashed potatoes. He was thinking about substituting a baked potato, but glad he didn't. My salmon was very good - had a pistachio nut topping. Yum. The dining room where we sat is very nice and open with high ceilings. It was not super loud. There was jazz music in the background - live when the band was playing in the back and piped in when they were on a break. The waitress brought my husband out a little red velvet cupcake on a plate with a candle for his birthday. Very nice. And, he didn't want it so I got to eat it. Even better. Would we come back? Yes, for a special occasion, as it is not cheap. How does this differ from Hereford House, our usual steak special occasion place? I would say that Hereford House is more traditional and a few dollars cheaper. However, Gaslight Grill adds a little twist to the entrees and sides which makes it more "foodie" oriented. Overall, a nice experience.

So decided to try their Sunday brunch after it was recommended. I have to say, I was really disappointed in their lack of variety and selection of food. It was a buffet but there was not much of a variety that all I had was a few cakes. Even their waffles were not fluffy and crispy. I will not be coming back to this place. It was not particularly clean either which also put me off my food.

Service was slow and non-existent. We had 3 course meal and it took 2 hours. My wife's steak was under cooked. Waiter never came around after each course to see how we liked them. She ended up just boxing it up untouched but waiter never inquired why, just brought out next course. We have had a lot better service at Applebee's for a lot less money.

Had brunch there today- we were seated at a table set for 8. We asked for a smaller table as there were many empty ones around us- we were told no but said she would try not to seat anyone else at our table. We were a party of 2. They were not busy. Brunch was ok- nothing to wow you. Desserts tasted like they had been frozen way too long and then thawed. Will not be back

I am thankful to help redeem Gaslight Grill from my last review that was quite lacking. With reservations in the backroom at 6:15 we were seated around 6:25. The place was bustling with activity for Christmas parties, retirement parties, birthdays, and anniversaries. Our server, Veronica, was delightful and very attentive and patient (it took us a bit of time to figure out what we wanted to do). We decided to split our dinner so we would leave comfortably! For starters we began with a mixed salad that was quite good. Being informed that our fresh hot bread would be arriving shortly, we were disappointed when it didn't make it. When we asked about it, she politely explained that the batch had been burned in the kitchen but it would be coming out shortly (second visit - difficulty getting that dang bread to the table). Once it came, the bread was perfect! Really good! Next, we shared a filet with blue cheese crumbles, grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. Even with sharing our meal, we had plenty. I am unsure of the sauce beneath the steak but it was fabulous. For dessert my husband, the birthday boy, chose a bread pudding, which was surprisingly wonderful. Typically bread pudding isn't my first choice but it was very good and worth a try (it is more like a chocolate cake). We decided to give Gas Grill another try after our first disappointing visit. While we decided to return based solely on the fact that we wanted to hear the jazz band, I'll say you have to really make a decision; to go hear jazz music, which was fantastic, OR you are going to talk during dinner. Simply you cannot do both. The music was loud enough that my husband and I decided to just listen and enjoy the music. NO worries because we can talk anytime. Just a consideration when making plans. I really enjoyed the music (just missed some of the bonding time that usually happens during dinner). Towards the end of our dinner, the owner introduced himself to us. After recognizing the various celebrations around the room, to our surprise, he joined the band with some terrific music! I loved his style! Great pianist! Oh, and as a side night, the restroom was the most beautiful I have seen with gorgeous tile and ample room just upon entering. Really nice evening out.

Went here for my one year wedding anniversary - they really do take anniversaries seriously. It was our first time there and they were absolutely amazing. Not only did we get a free toast and dessert, but our waitress was very sweet, the owner came by the table, the music live from the back room on the other side of the dining wall was great, and the food was very delicious. We are already talking about our next visit. The only thing I didn't like was how dark it was in the restaurant. Still thinking about their food, though! Amazing steaks and great appetizers.

This place is an upscale Cheesecake Factory. The food is fairly good but everything is a little sloppy. The waitstaff is a particular anchor to this organization. They know they should try hard but they try TOO hard. I have to admit I was taken in by Open Table 1,000 point table. Don't fall for it, unless you want to be disappointed.

Went for first time last night. It was mostly forgettable. The waiter was bad, he didn't introduce himself, just said "are you ready to order?" We didn't even have a drink yet so ordering dinner was premature. When our food did come my $35 steak was well done, but I ordered it medium rare. My wife's chicken was cold. We sent them back and in the interim the manager came by to apologize, which was nice, but didn't do anything to the bill. I'm generally pretty forgiving, but when you are charging $35 for a steak and 70% of your menu are steaks you should know the difference between medium rare and well. My wife said the second chicken she got was just ok. So unfriendly service, ok food, and high prices (for what you get) doesn't really warrant a second visit. You will have a much better experience at The Capital Grill for about the same price.

Went for Valentines Day, they were very busy and they had set up many extra tables. The service was very slow and we needed to flag our waiter down to ask questions. The food was ok, but we ordered our steak well done and it came out on the line of medium well medium rare. I finally found our waiter after him walking by our table 8 times and not looking....and showed him how pink it was.....and his response was "oh you meant the whole steak?" No I only wanted one corner well down. He took my plate with only 2 bites of the steak taken and said I will be right back. He came back about 20 minutes later with our check. That was it.....the entire time we were there they were moving tables and setting up tables. The atmosphere was rushed and loud. I paid for a steak that I did not eat and the waiter just dropped check and disappeared. We had two people standing right next to our booth waiting for us to move so they could clean and put the next reservation down. I will not go back and warn people that do go please tell them that you want THE WHOLE steak cooked one way.

I always love eating at Gaslight Grill. I live very close by so my friends and I often go for Happy Hour or late dinners. I have always had wonderful experiences and I always recommend Gaslight to others for special occasions, just a fun night out, or happy hour. They have great bar bites and wine selection, awesome steaks and seafood and a very friendly staff. If you haven't tried them yet you need to!

Took the family out here for brunch. The atmosphere and service were nice. 3.5-4 stars there. The food overall was pretty good, but not amazing. They head really flavorful fish cakes with remoulade, amazing mac and cheese, and a nice variety of fresh fruits and veggies. The waffles were really good. The bacon and crepes were quite tasty as well. The biscuits were very dry as was the the bread pudding. So, it's a tasty brunch, but not sure if I can rate it at 4. Worth stopping in though and checking out for yourself.

In my personal opinion: The service was excellent. Friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was nice and upscale yet relaxed. My husband ordered the ribs and he said they were really good. I ordered the fettuccine which was my only option. I asked about the risotto but it had chicken broth (WHY???). So I ordered the only thing available to me. It was very bland. There was not a lot of flavor. I think they should have added some broccoli. Perhaps try adding a few more vegetarian options. Try making the risotto with vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.

I have been here before one other time during KC Restaurant Week - which I really enjoyed. My best friends and I came here for the Sunday Brunch. As always the service was fabulous! We had made reservations online for around 1pm (just in case!) and we're seated promptly. The brunch buffet was in a small room in the back of the restaurant. My first impression upon entering the room was not like what I expected. There wasn't as much of a selection as I had anticipated. Knowing Gaslight Grill to be a pretty upscale place, I thought there would be more to choose from. There was a craving station, waffles, typical breakfast goods, crab cakes, few pastas, small table of sweets and cold foods. I ordered the eggs benedict from the kitchen and wasn't very impressed. It was... mediocre. For it costing about $20... I kind of expected more. I've had brunch at Nick and Jake's as well as Granite City and they both top Gaslight Grill's. Not sure of is come back for the brunch. I would love to come back for their regular menu though!

I took my boyfriend to Gaslight Grill for his birthday and we had a great experience. Excellent service (Brady was our server) and delicious food (pistachio crusted salmon and ribs). We sat in the Jazz Room and the music only added to the experience. We did use a Groupon, but are looking forward to going back for brunch and happy hour.

Good service. Quiet restaurant. Multiple rooms, good for parties/ wedding since I believe the backroom had a band playing for a party when we were there. Restaurant is a little hidden in a plaza on left of school. They had dinner specials but we ordered off the regular menu, steak was cooked juicy and just right.

We attended brunch last Sunday at Gaslight. I do like the dinners better than the brunch, but the brunch was good. There is no live music at brunch, but hey, you don't want loud music that time of day anyway! They brought eggs benedict to our table. There was a wide variety of breakfast and hot lunch fare. I was able to get coupons on Groupon so that lowered the cost. We were a party of six including four children. The kids loved it, and so did the wife.

Went for Sunday brunch. It was very good. A long drive for us Northland folks but since we had reservations we got right in. Unfortunately we saw some folks who left because they did not have reservations. Bottom line, reservations recommended. Brunch was about $20/person. Nice chocolate bar. Very nice variety on the Buffet. Only bad point was they use fake eggs unless you specifically order fresh eggs.

We went here in June of 2009 (I believe) and it must have been just after it opened. Everything was moving a little slower than we expected but the food was good and the service was alright. It was very quiet and there was supposed to be live music but it seemed they hadn't gotten that far. We plan on going again so we'll see how it's changed. Fred W., we will be there tonight (April 24) to celebrate our anniversary, looking forward to it.

Late dinner but still the service was great and so was the food. By the way, did I mention that there was 8 of us with no notice. Owner came out and had a short talk that was a good touch on a nice dinner. Friendly and inviting people who are really good at making things happen in the correct amount of time.

If you look over the reviews for this place, you will immediately notice their main problems: Inconsistency and sometimes rude staff. My wife and I have been to Gaslight Grill (6) times. On our first visit, nearly a couple years ago,, we would have given it at least 4-Stars. We really enjoyed it. Great service and really good steaks. But, unfortunately since then, it has been a downward trend. Our visit there a couple weeks ago, on a Friday evening, was horrendous. We ordered Martini's, and when our server brought them to the table, it appeared as if someone else had drank half the glass down....literally, the drink glasses were approximately half the glass full, which in a triangular shaped Martini glass is maybe 1/3 of the drink is still in the glass....this, for $10 each! We said something about it to our server, and he meekishly shrugged, and said -- "I know, it depends on which bartender you get and if I say something to him...he'll take it out on me all night.". ????HUH???? The server said he would find "some way" to make it up to us. A few minutes later, someone from the bar came to our table with a shaker. My wife joked with him -- "it looks like someone has enjoyed half our drinks before they arrived!"-- NOT A WORD from this person, as he poured maybe a shot of drink, between the two glasses. The level in my glass rose maybe 1/8 of an inch...still WAY SHORT. We later found out that this RUDE person, who spoke not a single word to us about the situation, was the BAR MANAGER. I have never been made to feel more uncomfortable or treated more rudely by a person in management at a restaurant. The food: Average, at best. It's not that the food was bad (that evening)...but, for the price you pay, you could eat at any number of fine dining restaurants: Capital Grill, J. Alexander's, J Gilbert's, Bristol, Houston's, and on and on. And, the steaks at those places are going to be great. When I got home, I wrote a letter to the restaurant Owner about this poor experience. I will give them this: I was contacted by Frank, the restaurant Manager, who assured me that the problems would be addressed, and he also took the price of the two short drinks off of my debit card....AND, they sent me a couple gift certificates to "please try them again, so they can redeem themselves". So, last Friday evening, we returned. We sat in the bar area. Ironically, we could watch as the bartender(s) mixed drinks. We ordered drinks. My wife had wine, and I took the chance on another Martini. It came out...full to about 1/2" of the top of the glass...not full, but at least respectable. We ordered an appetizer...hummus trio...which was very tasty. My wife had the ribs a couple weeks ago during our "horrible" visit...she thought they were good, so we decided to split a small plate of ribs this evening. MISTAKE!!!!! The ribs were meaty, but dry and had membrane on both sides which made them difficult to eat. Definitely not fall off the bone. The ribs come with a corn bake side....which was so full of garlic as to render it inedible....again, a couple weeks ago, the corn bake was delicious. We watched as the bartender made some Martini drinks for another couple in the bar...he poured...and the glasses were about half full...WAY SHORT....we watched as he squatted down to get on eye level with those drinks...much like a young child would do to make sure that his sibling did not get more drink than them....he eyed them a couple times then walked back to the liquor area. We thought he was going to mix more drink and fill the glass...but, no....he just got a couple olives for each short poured drink glass and sent them on their way. So, if upper Management said something to the bartenders about their "stingy pours" it has not yet sunk in...the bartenders pour drinks as if the cost of the liquor was coming directly out of their own pocket. I think a $10 drink, should be served FULL....and definitely not half full. If you dare to go here and eat...it will be hit-or-miss....you may get a very enjoyable meal at a "fine dining" price....or, you may get a mediocre meal at a fine dining price. You may receive good service...or, you may get cheated and then find that the staff cares very little about your experience...even if upper Management is trying to fix the problem. As for me.....after half a dozen visits, I have decided that this place is far too expensive for what they offer food wise. If I am going to spend in the area of $50 per person to eat at a place, I am going elsewhere. This place is just too inconsistent. It is a shame, because I really want to like the place...the bar is beautiful...the Jazz "Back Room" is a nice touch in my opinion....the main dining room is spacious and pretty. It's too bad that the food is mostly mediocre to average...and the bar staff is rude and incompetent. Would I recommend his place to others = NO! I'll be surprised it they last.......

DW and I came here for Sunday brunch. The restaurant wasn't too busy. We were seated after a little wait even though we had a reservation. It took a few minutes for our server to come over and get our drink order. He asked if we had been there for brunch before and we said that we had not. He explained the layout of the brunch buffet. He looked a little preoccupied when giving his spiel, but he was pleasant. The brunch was pretty similar to others. Breakfast items in one line and lunch items in another. One thing that was missing, that my DW pointed out, was no fried chicken which she feels should be a brunch staple. They did have excellent prime rib though. Overall the food was good quality, but for the price I expected more. Our glasses were always kept full and the service was very good.

We were in from California and took the couple we were staying with to brunch on Sunday morning. Very nice selection of food to choose from. I particularly enjoyed the decor of the restaurant. The service was very good and professional. The hostess seemed to be a bit out of element. I don't know what the methodology is for seating people but she had everyone packed together in the entrance to the restaurant. The patrons, hostess and wait staff where jammed up in one location most of the time because it was buffet-style with lots of traffic. I didn't spend time going to the deserts because they were tiny portions and looked as if they were bought somewhere and cut into 1/4's. That said, the entrees were great. They have quite the selection of wines and I loved the way they were displayed. It also appeared they had a little private room that seated 8-10 and that would be a grand place to have a celebrate a special occasion.

I just went there last night for dinner. I had the salmon salad and it was great. It came with strawberries, pecans, blackberries, etc. Very tasty. The rest of my party had the Sunday evening steak special, a choice of 3 cuts of meat, salad, and dessert for $25. Everyone raved how good their steak was cooked. The jazz band was a little loud at times, but they have the other room you can sit in if you like. This was my first time. I would go back.

This is south JOCO's best kept secret! I've eaten here several times and have always been pleased. It's my favorite local American "nice place" to go for drinks, dinner or brunch. We frequently will go for drinks and listen to the jazz band in the back room even if we've just had dinner at Bonefish Grill around the corner. I love the variety of the brunch, and have hosted a couple of birthday brunch bashes....just let them know when you make the reservation, and they will decorate your table with a few birthday confetti.... Yes, the menu is pricey, but this is a nicer restaurant with good food and service and actual table linens (not covered over in brown paper). Perfect for a special date or event, or just a nice evening out....and there are frequently good specials. I appreciate that the owner makes the rounds and actually engages customers in conversation. Bottom line: It's nice, it's locally owned and managed, has tasty and varied standard American fare, good service and ambiance, and is remarkably consistent. You can safely take your future in-laws or business associates here without worry about quality or privacy.

In from out of town, stopped in for dinner. Decent wine selection, delicious food, hummas was awesome, lamb chops were awesome. Nice atmosphere, good wait staff, a little pushy so I didn't rate 5 stars but nice clean restaurant, certainly would go back for another visit.

Great ambience and awesome food! Steaks are always perfectly cooked. Loved their creamed spinach and mashed potatoes ! Oh and definitely try their crab dip! They have an amazing wine selection too! Awesome food, nice upscale ambience & the seating is big enough where you don't feel your table is too close to the next. Definitely going back again!

We have been to the Sunday brunch here several times and I have to say it was super each and every time. Easter Sunday's meal was even better than usual! The thing I like about this brunch is that it has both breakfast and lunch items, a great green salad that is not pre-dressed, wonderful cranberry dressing for the salad and assorted veggies for dipping into home made hummus (yum!), and carving bar. Their deserts are to die for. Real whipped cream is served with their Belgium waffles and they have smoothies for kids. Great banana bread, too. The atmosphere is nice, not rushed and service is good. I think this brunch is so much better than Granite City or even the Bristol. I'll definitely be back and will try their Sunday steak night.

Went on a Sunday evening for my girlfriend's birthday. We walked through a long corridor to the back jazz room where we were greeted by a friendly waiter named Dan. My girlfriend Kathleen ordered an 8 oz fillet and prawns, while I ordered the 8 oz fillet Oscar. Both were cooked well to order, though I'd like a bit less char on mine (more personal preference than bad technique on the restaurant's part). Overall, the ambiance was great, the music excellent, and the food above average. You can get a better pure culinary experience on the plaza, but if location and atmosphere play an impotent role in your decision-making I can give Gaslight a solid thumbs up.

Went to the Gaslight Grill for Sunday Brunch and left content (full), but bored. Like the other places I go, if I walk in and the place is deserted, you have to wonder what is wrong with it. Especially so in this instance when it is located right next to a "mega church" and service had just ended. Total guests at 12:30 p.m., 10. The brunch was decent enough and was pleasantly surprised that they had Corned Beef Hash which is hard to find in KC. The prime rib was tasty if not a bit underdone. Their menu said they had smoked salmon, but it was nowhere to be found. The smoothie was a nice addition and welcomed by my 2 year old that would eat nothing but crackers, cheese and a few hash browns. The $16.95 price seems excessive. Granted it was a nice looking place, service was professional, but it wasn't that good. I had ordered a drink and never got it even with the place nearly empty. Back to the food bar for another smoothie on my own. Luckily kids 5 and under eat free. Older kids 6-12 are $6.95, but I can't imagine taking a family to eat here, and I guess everyone else thought so too.

My wife and six year old son visited the Gaslight on 1/27/11 and will not be going back. Right from the beginning the cold attitude of the hostess set the mood for a poor dining experience. After no greeting at the door, she said not one word to us on the long walk back to the table. She seated us, dropped the menus and left a mute. Even though we were in a booth, the table nearest to us was somehow too close. After about five minutes or so the waiter arrived. We placed our drink order and asked to see the bar menu to order an item for our son. My wife and I would be ordering off the standard menu. I would not have thought to ask, but making the reservations the evening before, I was told the bar menu could be used as the children's menu for a less expensive entree. Not fully believing that would be allowed, I had the woman taking the reservations double check and she assured me it would be fine. Well, it wasn't fine with the waiter. Ultimately, he left to go retrieve a bar menu and did not return. I finally took the liberty of asking the charming hostess for the bar menu and she grudgingly brought one back to the table with the same friendly attitude as before. The waiter arrived back with back with drinks and took our food order. We asked for bread which he quickly got to the table and then we where on our own for the next 20 minutes. My son's soda empty and my beer dry by the time he returned. The food was delivered by someone other than the waiter. I dove into my room temperature ribs and immediately began looking for the waiter. No where to be found as was his M.O. all evening. I grabbed the closed employee I could and explained the issue. The ribs were taken back to the kitchen. The waiter appeared shortly after, offered an apology and assured me a new rack would be right out. About 10 minutes later I was again assured the ribs would be right out and miraculously they were. My son nearing completion of his meal and my wife not far behind. The ribs had a 'strange' consistency and were far from great. The side corn dish was not bad, but not hot either. The waiter eventually returned with little concern for our dining pleasure. Failed to notice my half eaten ribs and didn't bother to ask how the meal was. No matter, by that point, I just wanted to get the hell out. After declining dessert he went for the check. Another disappearing act. He did a great Houdini! He resurfaced about 10 minutes later. Thank the good Lord I had cash to cover the tab. Free at last. Never to return.

Went on a Monday evening to take advantage of some of the Monday night specials. The place was not very full at around 7:45 pm for dinner. The layout of the dining room makes it seem even emptier. It doesn't feel like you are in a nice restaurant, if feels like you are in one of the mega-conference rooms in large hotel. Atmosphere is plastic and not warm. Giant beige walls that soar 2 stories up and really no decor to speak of. The gaslight grill trio was marked as one of their specialties. The plate had one tiny scallop, one medium size shrimp and about 7 oz of beef. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted good, but the plate was more of an appetizer plate than a dinner. Fortunately, I wasn't that hungry. Regular menu prices seemed too high for what you are getting at this place. It's priced as if it is one of the nicest places in Leawood. It's not. Monday night 50% off of bottles of wine under $50 is a nice treat. You can get a bottle of a nice dinner wine for only slighty more than what you could buy it in a liquor store for. Service was good. Overall kind of just a so-so place. Would only go back if I was in the immediate neighborhood.

Sunday brunch, very good buffet with good tasting food and variety for$20 plus 4$ mimosas, no complaints there, it was very good. Fell down on service, as dirty plates piled up, people weren't at their stations, had to do some self service !

Service was excellent, from the maitre d' to our waitress, it was attentive, but not overbearing. Steaks were fantastic - my wife's filet tender and buttery, my bleu cheese encrusted ribeye exploding with flavors. Desserts were also fabulous. We had the signature chocolate cake (despite trepidation that such desserts tend to be sickly sweet) and were pleasantly surprised. The predominant flavors were the layers of chocolate, not sugar. We also ordered the vanilla creme brulee, which was creamy and delicious (though the peanut brittle crumble accent was unnecessary). And they comped the cake when they learned it was my wife's birthday. Great experience - we'll be back!

I am rounding up from 3.5 stars to 4. A group of 8 of us came here for Valentine's Day dinner. We had a reservation and arrived on time, but had to wait while they prepped our table. We had a nice round table in the back and got our menus. Unfortunately they had a fixed menu for Valentine's Day so the regular menu options were not available. I was looking forward to having the BBQ Shrimp appetizer. Oh well, maybe next time. We ordered our first round of drinks, but my glass of wine was "forgotten" and had to wait quite some time before I could even get the server's attention to let him know he had overlooked me. That was probably the most disappointing part of the evening. The length of time I had to wait was excruciating and unacceptable. He should have comped that glass. My friends were already more than half way through their drinks by the time mine finally arrived. In my opinion, more of an apology should have been made. For V-day they had a "couple's menu," that a friend and I ordered off of. They started us with an amuse bouch. It seemed to be a tuna tartare on crostini. It was delicious. We shared lobster ravioli for an appetizer and though the sauce was lighter and sweeter than I would have preferred, it was still delicious. There were generous portions of lobster in each ravioli. For main courses, we both had the cocoa and coffee crusted filet. I had my doubts but it was wonderful and quite a generous portion. It came with mashed potatoes, mushrooms and some charred brussel spouts. The spouts could have been better prepared, but the rest of the dish was much better than I had imagined. For dessert they offered two options and we got both so we could share. They had a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling and an apple tart. The apple tart was really good. Most of our friends got the chocolate cake and found a generous portion of peanut butter in the center. Ours didn't have any! When we brought it to our server's attention he replaced it without hesitation. I wouldn't mind coming back if someone wanted to try it, but would probably go to Avenues Bistro for a more affordable and better dining experience.

We went out to dinner Friday night to celebrate my husband's and a good friends birthday. We've been here a couple of times before and always very good. I had the Maytag Blue Cheese Ribeye, it was tough and very gristly @$33.00 I brought half of it home and to eat later, but when I warmed it up it was really tough. All in all, the food for every one just wasn't up to their previous standard. Probably next time we go around the corner to Bonefish Grill.

I really wanted to like this restaurant. It is a beautiful facility and one of our favorite places when it was Plaza III. It is close to my office and we like to support local enterprises. We recently went for our anniversary and everything was just off a little. The bread came after we had finished the salads. The pasta of the day was presented as a pesto, but came out as a al fredo with some basil added. The steak was overcooked and just not of that good of a quality and the creme brulee was overcooked pudding with no crunch on top at all. We asked our waiter to let the kitchen know and he made a point to come back and let us know that the chef disagreed, but the owner felt it could have been too firm. We overhead the waiter tell another table that this restaurant is owned by the same owner as Johnny's Bar, and we walked away with the impression that the food was probably the same, just served on better dishes. For the price, we expected more. We ended up going out again to make up for our anniversary night and went to J. Gilberts - go there instead!

Dined on a wednesday night, which had a 3 course seafood nite for $18.95 and all draft beers were $3 a pint. They had Hobgoblin English Ale on draft!!! First course: The house salad is superb salad consisting of spring salad mix with great peppery arugula, cranberries, bleu cheese and a lovely lemon poppy dressing. House buns were also brought with the salad and had an excellent balsamic vinegar butter! Main course: salmon perfectly grilled with a crispness out the outside and moist tenderness on the inside. Whipped potatoes and grilled asparagus were nice sides. THird Course: Combo of creme brulee. Vanilla served warm and the chocolate served cold which was outstanding. Waitress was pleasant to talk with, always had the water glasses full, and rounded out the dining experience. This is a spectacular restaurant and recommend to anyone whether with family or for a business dinner.

This place is hit and miss, went for the Sunday brunch and the hostess was really busy on the phone but finally made time to get us seated. The brunch itself was ok, food was slow to be replenished and main meat dish had been substituted as they ran out. Enjoyed the smoked salmon but on a raisin bagel? Returned a week later for a Christmas party (dinner) and the food and service were great, well prepared friendly staff and the owner stopped by the table, great night.

I Wife and a friend had an early dinner at the Gaslight Grill on Sunday..it had two distinctions 1. the mediocre and bland live jazz was a nearly perfect accompaniment to the bland and mediocre food. 2. I had the worst (tasteless and tough) skimpiest (10.5 oz.) and overpriced piece of Prime Rib (23.00) I have ever encountered.

We went around 7 pm on a Friday night, and the dining room was less than half full. We ordered the scallop appetizer - delicious! The bread was ok, but we really liked the balsamic butter they served with it. My husband got the Delmonico steak and was very pleased. But he was over the moon about the mashed potatoes that came with it. Best he had ever had. I ordered the pork porterhouse, and it was also very good with good side dishes. Desserts were on the smaller side portion wise, but also very delicious. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgable and efficient. It is a pricey meal out, but we had a great time and great food.

This is a wonderful restaurant was wonderful. We sat in the back room where they play jazz. My Husbands steak was great. They had organic meat available. The crab cakes are really good. The scallops were perfect. They have a really nice wine list with some of our favorites. We had wonderful service and we felt as though everything was at our pace.

It's been a while since I last ate at Gaslight. What a pleasant surprise to enjoy a delicious meal and have such great service. We did not have a reservation and while we could eat in the dining room, we choose to eat in the bar. It's usually a bit quieter there. Our server was great-there when you needed him and very knowledgeable of the menu and happy to please. We ordered the mussels, served in a slightly different way than the traditional garlic and white wine. They were excellent-fresh and light in a brothy tomato based sauce-still lots of garlic! I had a grilled fish and opted for another green veggie instead of potato straws that were served on top. My food was delicious-perfectly cooked. I would give this restaurant a 5 star but my order came with the potatoes on top and the other server that brought it out just asked me to take them off and put them on the table. When I looked at him, he then put his serving tray in front of me and told me to just throw them on there. I then asked him if he would mind just taking it back and redressing it, which he did but that was a bit awkward and I would have thought that should happen without my suggestion. anyway, my friends meal was equally delicious-another fish dish. They have great meats but their fish dishes are very good! We also found on a placard on our table a lot of specials and happy hour items, which is great incentive to go back! Give it a try!

We went to the gaslight grill for brunch on Sunday. It was absolutely wonderful! The prime rib was cooked perfect! The Mac & cheese was amazing ! For a$17.95 it was well worth it and we will go back

I'm writing this review after my second visit to Gaslight. The first was a couple of months ago when my girlfriend and I went to dinner around 7pm. We were worried because the parking lot seemed full but when we entered there was hardly any one on the dinning room (maybe 2 other couples besides us) which is usually never a good sign. Our waiter was attentive but not bothersome (the way we like it) and offered several recommendations. We ended up getting the small plate Grill Trio along with Fish and Chips with the Pan Seared Scallops and Hummus for starters. We were blown away as everything was above our expectations but we wondered why there weren't more people there. Yesterday we went to Gas Lights Sunday Brunch. I've been to many brunches around town (Nick & Jakes, Bristol...etc) but I was again blown away as this was cheaper then most and far better. Again we had a great waiter and the food was fantastic. But there were only 5 other tables besides ourselves at noon. We thought maybe we slipped in early enough before the church crowd but after being there for a hour the restaurant never filled about 10 tables. In closing I think this place has great service. you will feel comfortable in a suit or jeans and a sweatshirt. I don't ever by steaks out so I can't comment on that, but everything I've eaten is top notch and at least for now there's always a table.

Our group took advantage of the groupon offer to try the Sunday brunch. The restaurant was very large and appeared as if it is broken up into different dining rooms. The dining room we were placed in was tastefully decorated however, it was quite a distance from where the brunch was set up. Our server was polite, and very attentive and what I would expect from fine dining. The food was disappointing, even for a buffet. I've had other brunches in Kansas City that way out does Gaslight Grill. The best part of the brunch was the chilled shrimp, vegetables, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and macaroni and cheese. The Denver eggs were burnt both times I tried them, the cheese potatoes had congealed cheddar and the potatoes were burnt underneath. The hash had no flavor and the rest of the offerings followed suite. There was 1 cook handling waffles, prime rib carving, and made to order omelets. He was doing a good job but was very overwhelmed and causing long lines. I tried the prime rib twice and both times it was tasteless, overcooked, and cold. The desserts also left something to be desired, the bread pudding had an overwhelming taste of orange which I have never had orange flavored bread pudding before. The carrot cake was dried out, and obviously was not fresh. The chocolate cake and cheesecake however were very good. I was glad we took advantage of the discount to try the brunch, if I paid full price, I would of been very disappointed. I will perhaps come back and try dinner sometime, but will not do a buffet or a brunch.

This is the VERY Best of the restaurants in the complex if not in south Johnson County. Delicious prime meat, great staff and the owner is paying attention to every detail. The manager Fred is amazingly professional. This is our favorite place to eat and is a great relax. We enjoy eating in the bar. Dori, Veronica and Dan are the best!

This was our first visit out to the Gaslight Grill and it was great! Its got good ambiance, great food, good wine selection, awesome service and very good jazz. The owner of the place seemed to walk around and talk to almost everyone dining and was a great host. We got the Mediterranean meat platter as an appetizer (new on the menu), which was surprisingly good. It came with 2 skewers each of lamb (which was spicy and good), beef (moist and juicy) and chicken (also good). It did come with a very dry hummus which wasn't the most appetizing for me (personal preference), but the side of Kalamata olives and roasted/pickled peppers drenched in some kind of lemony sauce made up for the lacking hummus. My blue cheese encrusted steak was really good and I would recommend that to anyone that likes the flavor of blue cheese - some serious blue cheese on this steak. It was a 14oz. Angus ribeye with a huge serving of the bacon/chive mashed potato and green beans. I didn't eat much of the green beans, but gobbled down every bit of the mashed potato. My wife ordered the pistachio encrusted salmon which was also good, but the basil-pesto risotto and some kind of blackberry reduction with blackberries on the side was what really made the dish for me (her). The blackberry and the risotto went extremely well with the pistachio flavor on the salmon. Great place for a special occasion!

The service was horrible. Our waiter was friendly enough, but he was incredibly slow. It took 30 mins to get our drinks after we ordered them, and another 45 after we ordered our food. After we were done eating, our waiter didn't show up to give us our check for about 30 mins. Then after he brought our check, he didn't show up again to take my credit card for about 20 mins. The food was average, although not worth the price. I had the linguine pasta, which was decent, although far from great. My wife had the salmon, which was really good! If you don't mind really slow service, you might like the place. The food is about average for the money, although I wouldn't recommend the place!

We visited Gaslight Grill for the fourth time last night. The first two times were in the bar - we had a good experience once and a mediocre experience the second time. On our first visit to the dining area, we visited the restaurant to use a Groupon. Our service was terrible. Twice we stopped a different server in order to have them send our server to our table. My steak was overcooked, I should have sent it back, but we were kind of in a hurry. The Groupon included dessert and it took 15 minutes for our dessert to be delivered (it was not anything special, so it should have been delivered in 5 minutes). I was not happy with the food or the service. Last night, we returned for my parent's birthday (their choice) and we had the same waiter! He took my parents wine order and we had to flag him back down to order a beer. After he delivered the wine, we asked for the beer and he rudely told us that it would be right out. About 10 minutes later we waved him down and again asked about our beer. We were finally able to place our order about 20 minutes after being seated! He delivered bread to our table (three rolls for four people) and two of the three were ice cold and dry - the other was warm. The next basket of bread included four rolls and was warm. When our food arrived, my mom's pork was extremely dry and my steak was extremely over cooked (I ordered medium-rare). Both my steak and mashed potatoes were cold and they were "set up" - it was obvious that my plate had been sitting for at least 10 minutes before it was delivered. I didn't want to take the time to send my meal back because I didn't have time for it to be redone. I might expect a meal like this from a casual chain restaurant, but I expect the steaks to be cooked perfectly at a restaurant of this caliber and price. Both the waiter and the food would cause me to not return to this restaurant again.

Used my Groupon on Sunday night. Service was good but not quite up at the level as places like Houstons, J Alexanders, Bristols, etc. Both my husband and I had the steak specials - french onion soup/petit filet/mashed potatoes/carrots/raspberry sorbet and house salad/KC strip/mashed potatoes/spinach/raspberry sorbet. Food was good, my filet was cooked to medium rare as requested. The only compaint about my husband's KC strip was that it was cut unevenly so it wasn't cooked evenly throughout. We sat in the dining room away from the wonderful live music and the volume was perfect.

I tried this place for the second time after not being super impressed with their bring menu over a year ago. I was very pleasantly surprised. The managers had a consistent presence throughout the evening at multiple tables, perfect lighting, amazing amazing food and great wine selection!

made reservations for a saturday night for 4 and glad I did. we were promptly seated and ordered drinks. our waiter started off very nice but everytime I asked for an opinion on a food, app, drink, etc, he kept replying with "well its whatever you want". so we got ZERO suggestions other than the $58 special that night.

BLECH!

Sunday brunch, very good buffet with good tasting food and variety for$20 plus 4$ mimosas, no complaints there, it was very good. Fell down on service, as dirty plates piled up, people weren't at their stations, had to do some self service !

Dry aged steaks are superb! The wine list is excellent. The live jazz is great- part of living in KC is going to hear Jazz and eating a great steak. Wait staff very attentive and friendly. Best gumbo in town.
