The shrimp fried rice is incredible! The lunch prices are great, but the dinner prices are a little high.

The waitress cursed in Korean because she didn't think I'm Korean. She thought I can't speak Korean, but I understood bad words what she said.

I really like this place! My husband and I have been here several times and have not been disappointed once. We have not tried any of the Korean dishes but have had many of the rolls and hand rolls. The atmosphere is good; simple and clean. I like getting the group options so I can have a variety. The presentation is good and the prices are reasonable. Will definitely be back!

The sushi rolls are acceptable, for South Bend, though you're better off with supermarket sushi for the price. Avoid the noodle bowls at all costs. Top Ramen made in your college dorm is better than that garbage. As noted by many other reviewers, service is atrocious. Even by the area's low standards, this place is a total fail.

Atrocious service, or lack thereof... The two dishes I tried (once carryout) were not authentic Korean. Worst rice I have encountered anywhere. The Kimchi was nasty.

Food is overpriced and honestly not that good. Maybe I'm spoiled since I come from Atlanta where there are Asian restaurants galore, but if I pay $15 for a dish, it better be good. Service is slow, meals are careless, and the atmosphere is not that great. The salad you get before meals is trash. Side dishes are stingy. Never coming back again.

Just had a great lunch at Toyo Grill. Lots of wonderful bento lunch choices for around $10. Very relaxing experience. The food was delicious. Will definitely come back to try other bento options.

My experience there was horrible. Food wasn't worth the price. Service was slow. I asked for a vegetarian dosh and they gave me oysters. Not worth it.

I love this place. I have traveled and eaten sushi all over the USA and in other countries. This really my favorite. I am sushi purist. When I go somewhere that just as sushi on the menu but, it is not what the restaurant is about, such as, Hana Yori Japanese Steak House, I do not expect them to go thru the fish fast enough to keep fresh inventory. At Toyo the fish is always fresh. This is truly the best sushi in the area. The tempura is great. The korean dishes are fabulous. You cannot go wrong here. Their salmon skin hand roll is the best I have had ANYWHERE!! And try the bi bim bop, on of my other faves!

Don't let the smallish location scare you away. Food is excellent and the portion sizes are crazy big. I've been coming to Toyo Grill since 2002 and I've never had a single issue. At times they can be busy, but that isn't a bad thing. Give it a try!

My fist sushi ever was here in '95! I enjoyed it then and still do today. Not too sure at this point how stellar this place is, but thought I would store the note; sorry for a lacking review, I do better most of the time.

It's been a while since I stopped by here. Though to try them again. Decent sushi waaaaay overpriced for this area, it's south bend people let's be real, probably will be another couple of years by the time I try it again there are better places in town that have good sushi for reasonable price.

This place had pretty good food. The golden scallops were interesting, the sushi was fresh and tasty, and the bento box was a good deal. However, the service was a bit spotty and slow...apps came out after soup and salad, one entree came out way before the other, etc.

A great sushi place in South Bend. The food is reasonably priced and service is fast. I'm a sushi lover, and theirs isn't the best ever, but it's pretty damn good. They're usually not very busy, but don't let that fool you. I'd skip a 1 hour wait at bonefish grill any day for toyo.

Good sushi. Nice wait staff. They close far too early however, and I have definitely had better sushi.

Koreans will tell you: this is the best place to get Korean food in the area. The Korean menu selection is smaller than others, but the food is authentic. If you have a special request, it doesn't hurt to ask. The sushi and other dinners are good, too. The catch here is that the service is always slow, so don't go if your time is limited.

Oh the Toyo Grill, I remember the many ND Japan club dinners, the dates, the memories of the place when I was a student at ND from 01-'05. I still can look back on this place and smile, kind of like a warm memory that you can never forget. Anyways, this place is korean owned, but the quality is pretty good considered its in South Bend. I enjoyed both the japanese sushi and korean dishes. I recalled the BBQ Kalbi was delicious as well. Its a must visit for sure. I would like to return again to for old times sake.

We've tried this place a few times. The sushi is pretty good. But this place is really known for its korean dishes, especially the BBQ Kalbi. Whenever we go here, we have to keep in mind that it's pricey... about $20-$25/person if you want to get full. We'll definitely continue to go back.

Service is consistently slow and unskilled. I've had many memorable dinners at toyo, the food is fresh and well prepared. Not the absolute best sushi I have ever had, but incredible for the midwest. Toyo is good food at a great value.

A sushi expert I am NOT, but I do eat it from time to time....when I'm attempting to eat "healthy". I've ordered take-out from here several times, and I've always been very happy with my food. Tonight I ordered the Mountain Roll, the Spicy White Tuna Roll and the pork dumplings. The Mountain Roll was spicy and amazing, and the tuna roll was pretty solid as well. The dumplings were very simple, but not bad at all. Just FYI, plan on spending around $25/person on sushi if you want to fill up here. Or maybe I'm just a hoss....

Not the most exciting restaurant, but very carefully made sushi at a inexpensive price.

A favorite of ours 20 years ago and it has lasted all this time. I was able to give it a try recently and it is still very good. I had maguro and it was extremely fresh. California roll was solid as was the chicken teri. I wish this place were in our neighborhood back home!

The family that owns/runs it is Korean, not Japanese. Soooo....order the food from the Korean section of the menu, as it is particularly authentic. Bibimbap

Good sushi, don't expect much from the service. More time to hang out with those you came with.

Crunch roll, four season maki, spicy hamachi handroll, everything is so fresh here. Bento is expensive but worth the money. Yummy appertizers, must try! Korean food is authentic!!!!

This is the best sushi in the Bend. It is not fusion modern fancy sushi, just great fresh fish! The service was formerly very bad, but it seems to have gotten much better.

Toyo has the best sushi around BY FAR! We have a few Japanese Steakhouses in the area, but none have sushi that compares to Toyo's. It's incredibly fresh and just melts in your mouth!

WOW, Noah! I've been looking for something better throughout this country as well, and NOTHING can top my hometown's sushi; granted it's the only good sushi around that area- I completely agree. I've sampled many a city's soosh, and nothing compares. Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, and the Spider roll make my eyes roll back in my head. No silly "spicy sauce" (that mayonnaise-y stuff you get at most places, even the decent ones). The spiciness is IN the roll, yet never distracts from the fresh and distinctive flavor of the fish itself. If you have to wait for a server, or 40 minutes for one or two rolls to be prepared-- Deal! It's worth it. In the meantime, take the time to memorize the looped soundtrack- that's a kick in itself.

OK. My hubs and I decided to give this another shot. This time, we only ordered the sushi. EXCELLENT. I was very pleased. I would not recommend the fish dinners, but the sushi is filling and yummy.

I am not a big fan of sushi but a friend of mine is so I went ahead and tried this place - it was interesting to say the least. i made the mistake of ordering a tempura dinner and after finishing it I felt like I had drank a bottle of vegetable oil - not good if you are trying to be healthy.

If you go on a Saturday evening, you get the best food. I love sushi, and this used to be one of the better places to go--considering it's northern Indiana. Since the opening of a more up-scale sushi restaurant not too far from Toyo, they have really stepped up their game. The last time I ate at Toyo, the sushi was amazing. It was always good, but this time it was amazing. I asked the waitress what had changed. She told me that the boss was now making most of the sushi himself, and that they buy less fish at a time, but in more frequent runs to keep it fresh. You could definitely taste the difference.

Big fan of Toyo. We've lived in DC, Chicago, Seattle, and Denver and this rivals, if not tops, the best we've had in any of those cities. The service is always slow, and no one seems to know if you seat yourself or wait to be seated. Just take a seat, flag down a waiter, and suck it up. It's effing good sushi. We go every time we're back in SB. I dream about it sometimes. Seriously.

Toyo Grill will change your life!! Sure the service isn't the best, although the last few times I have been in, the service was pretty darn good. Their sushi is hands down the freshest and most tasty in town. If you go, you will NOT be disappointed by the food. I highly recommended ordering a spicy tuna hand roll. It has 2-3 huge chunks of raw tuna, with the most amazing spicy sauce I have ever had, all rolled up in a seaweed wrap that resembles an ice cream cone. I have not had another hand roll as good as this anywhere else- EVER.

My fiancé and I decided to try this restaurant for a date night. I ordered the mackerel and he ordered the tempura shrimp. We both wanted to vomit after eating there. My mackerel had tiny bones all throughout, and one scratched my throat when I swallowed. My fiancé couldn't even finish his shrimp, it was so oily; and, like someone said, it was no different than drinking a bottle of vegetable oil. Bleh. On top of that, the food was very, very bland. This restaurant is probably better known for its sushi, which we didn't try. I wouldn't exactly recommend this place for a sit-down dinner. It's like eating a plate of heart attack.

Ok, but nothing great. Go to Matuba or Hey sushi if you are in the area. They are much better.
