Today was the grand opening of a brand-new Vietnamese restaurant in a location that isn't exactly known for culinary diversity. And as far as I can tell, that's a great thing for the area. The interior is about as non-frills and typical of any pho joint you've been too. The black tabletops, halogen lights, and large-screen TV are all there. I had the Pho Bo Vien (rice noodles beef soup with meatballs), and it was as tasty as anything I've had in Chicago, New York, Arlington, or LA. Very authentic, and very delicious. All the necessary accoutrements were readily available (hot sauce, hoison sauce, mint leaves, sprouts, lime, etc.) and the food came out very quickly. At $6.45 for a small bowl, and $7.45 for a large, you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal in town for an authentic bowl of pho. Can't see myself eating there every day, but it's nice to know I don't have to drive into the city for a taste of well done Vietnamese food.

Hip hip, hooray! I've been waiting for this place to open, and finally got to go on my birthday. I couldn't have had a better birthday dinner. My husband and I LOVE pho, but just can't seem to find any around here (or even in Chicago, for that matter). We got spoiled by excellent pho back home, and this is the first place I've had pho since we moved here that is the REAL THING, not just some sucky imitation. You get a choice of small or large bowl. A small is enough for me, but the large bowl is enough for dinner now and lunch the next day. You also get to choose your meats. I like brisket, but my husband likes to get a little bit of everything- meatballs, tripe, round steak, brisket. Like the others said, your pho comes with a platter of various add-ins like bean sprouts, jalapenos, Asian cilantro, etc. Saigon Noodle House, I'm so happy you're in our neighborhood now. I'll be a regular customer here.

I would rate it 31/2 stars. The menu was easy to understand as it had a lot of pictures. It had been busy so they were cleaning up. The gentleman answer questions and was very nice. I got a number 30. It was outstanding, however I would have liked warmer. I think they forgot our soup as it came out after the main meal. All the food had very good flavor, and there was plenty. Price made it a good value. I will defiantly return.

I wanted to like this place so bad...unfortunately, it wasn't good at all. My husband & I were eager to try it out & were sorely disappointed. The spring rolls have some interesting dark meat in them (not sure if it was dark meat chicken or pork---but it was not good!)! I guess we've just been spoiled by the spring rolls at Asparagus. I really felt let down by the Yelp reviews of this place...but to each their own I guess...

The Pho is so good and huge, cheap portions. Spring rolls with peanut sauce is on point. Wish it wasn't so far away from me!

Tasty. I'm no Pho expert but I like it. The portion to taste to price ratios work for me. I go every month or two. They changed the menu recently and some things are no longer there and I don't know what to call the stuff I once had and liked. The wait staff could be more attentive. fo sho

EXCELLENT soup. Make sure you have the updated menu and then order by number... carefully.

My favorite Vietnamese pho restaurant hands down haven't found anything better!! I try to eat here weekly if I can. The best most authentic pho I've had definitely in nwi. The service is suuuuuuper fast and super hot! I do not know how they do that but they do!! More people need to know about this place!

We came in late during a road trip around 7:30pm. It was a Sunday when they close at 8:00pm. They let us order carryout when we asked if we could. The service wasn't great from the newbie kid at the register and they weren't very accomodating when we asked if there were any disposable bowls we could have. They could have tried harder. The food was good though. The spring rolls with the pork was delicious. They should advertise their closing times to accurately reflect when they stop taking customers.

Not bad. Had the vermicelli with egg roll and pork - pretty good flavor but could have been more toppings for the noodle base to give it more freshness. Also had the avocado smoothie which tasted delicious but I wish the sugar had been toned down some.

I've been here countless times - this week twice! The food is amazing and the prices even better! Everything I've tried has been absolutely delicious. The pho is great (I've tried eye round, flank, brisket, and meatball). My favorite is eye round, probably because it's the leanest, and they give you plenty of beef. The grilled pork and grilled shrimp rice dishes, all the vermicelli bowls, soft and fried spring rolls, beef vietnamese sandwich, and avocado shakes are amazing and hit the spot. Try an avocado shake! Not too sweet, cool and creamy - perfect for dessert.

The food here is terrific, but the dining room is to hot and the service is...uncomfortable. First, the food. The egg rolls were really great. The Pho tai chin was fantastic. Everything was well seasoned, fresh, and balanced. Rich umami flavor. I've had some great Pho and this was right up there in flavor. My only complaint was it had about half the meat I'd expect. There doesn't appear to be any A/C in this place, so even on this moderately warm day, it was uncomfortable in the dining room. The service was functional - everything made it to the table in a timely manner in a reasonable time, though I was the only one there when I arrived and one of two tables when I left. The problem with the service was the server seemed anxious, hurried, and not really listening to me. I had to repeat myself several times, both for stuff (decently pronounced) in Vietnamese and for stuff in English (like water and lemonade). I observed the same with the other table he served while I was there. So, go, be prepared for a little awkwardness, but not for the reason you'd think, and enjoy some really good food!

New management as of early 2014, and it shows. Shrimp fried rice did not have shrimp. Sent it back and got two diced shrimp for the $8 price. When I inquired, I was told that the price of shrimp is very high for them. Also pork and beef. My companion ordered chicken broccoli, and it had no broccoli! Every vegetable but. We really thought we were being punked. Bottom line...my favorite asian restaurant is no more. I frankly do not see how they will survive. Server was awful. Despite asking for soy sauce, she said okay and proceeded to sit behind the counter and eat her own meal. When someone brought me soy sauce, it was watered down and tasted like vinegar water. Spring rolls were disappointing, as well. They had the very outer part of shrimp halves. I did not get a whole shrimp total in mine. And, the peanut sauce, which used to be my favorite, was a mess as well. New menu had fewer items, and it was disappointing that they were u able to execute the dishes as they should be prepared. Unfortunately, I will not be back. There were too many errors for me to overlook. For fun, check out all of the misspellings on the new menus, which are brochure take out menus. That is what you get for dining in.

I love this place!! It has such unique character and the food is awesome. I consider this a Vietnamese dive, very laid back with authentic food. We will definitely be back.

Tried pho for the first time last Christmas and love it, so I was excited to see a place open in my neighborhood. I have been here a couple of times now and love it. Not only do I love the Pho but the pork chop dinner is incredible and so are the egg rolls...in fact I haven't had anything bad yet from this place. Can't wait to go back

I heard so many people talk about this place but could never locate a menu online. Once i read into Vietnamese cuisine a little more, i knew i could handle it. However, i still made my mother taste everything first lol. Such a team player ;) Ordered Vietnamese.Eggrolls, Pho w/brisket, Shrimp Fried Rice, and Beef w/Mushrooms. In my opinion, Vietnamese cuisine is sweeter than other Asian cuisine and they encourage you to add some heat to your dish with the chili sauce blends on your table. My favorite dish was the Pho. What a unique dish that was. You immediately taste the Saigon Cinnamon amongst several other spices. It may not be 5 star dining and there is a language barrier when ordering but i recommend it!

It wasn't horrible. I enjoyed my Pho (with brisket and meatball, I believe), and boyfriend's Vermicelli Noodles with Pork were fabulous. The reason I'm giving it only 3 stars, and I maybe should feel poorly about this, but it was the language barrier. I know, that sounds bad, but when I sat down and said another person was coming, they tried to clear the other spot away. The thing that got me was when we asked if the spring rolls were veggie, we were told yes, and there were HUGE shrimps in them. Wasn't quite pleased with that.

Stopped in and got some spring rolls, the pork sandwich and iced coffee. The bread for the sandwich was great, the sandwich tasty and the spring rolls huge and delicious. Coffee with condensed milk was just what I wanted, strong and sweet. Wanted to get Pho but was getting food to go and decided against it. Great little place. Very nice older gentleman at the counter. Will be back.

We ordered family style while here and got a bunch of different items. I had never really had Vietnamese food before, but was urged to try this place by some friends. Overall I really liked our dinner. Every dish we tried was really good. I don't have a reference point for what Vietnamese food should taste like, but I was very pleased tonight. I'll definitely be back.

It was nice to have this authentic Vietnamese noodle restaurant in the area to check out. We were looking for a light, quick dinner and this place was perfect and hit the spot. It's only 4 months old, and it's clean and casual. The menu is pretty extensive with pho (noodle soup) selections and other vermicelli and rice selections. We had a bowl of pho ($8.45 for a large bowl with eye round plus tendon), and a couple of vermicelli dishes with grilled beef and pork chop. Assorted Vietnamese beverages are also served. Every area should have a Vietnamese style place to pick from, and for Merrillville, this is it.

Their food is real. Waiters and cooks don't speak English. I use this as compliments in terms of food because there is no need to be verbal explained! That means real. Just go!!! Their Pho is great and healthy! I already went there three times in 2 weeks!!! Lol.

My wife and I stop in every time we go back to Indiana. The staff is always extraordinarily nice, and the pho is great. We haven't tried anything else to eat, because we keep getting the pho.

  • Joey T.

The staff was very friendly and my food was ready very quickly. The food was a little bland, but I'm starting to expect that of Indiana in general. It's considerably better than many of the alternatives. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, I didn't realize how spoiled I was with the huge array of Asian restaurants and easy access to fresh food. I was pretty excited to find this place because it's the first Asian restaurant since I got here that didn't make me sick.

We've been here twice. Both times the pho #3 was good. The #15 chicken pho and the vermicelli is good. Nice people and the food is good. What more could you ask for? They should move to Valpo.

Food is amazing!!! Prices are reasonable. I highly recommend the spring rolls and vermicelli w/ grilled pork. Their pork is absolutely fabulous!! Also, the avocado smoothies are super good! Although, I wish they were bubble teas....

I have been stalking this restaurant for a few months waiting for it to open. Unforuntately, my Indiana town has two choices of restaurant - either a McFranchise or one of the swankier TGI Franchises. So I saw vietnamese restaurant coming soon and nearly fainted. I got the pho, which was very good. For $6.90 I got a huge vat of broth(which you could tell was made with fresh spices, meat and bone, not canned stuff), about 6 slices of beef, bean sprouts, purple basil, green onion, cilantro, lime, jalapeno slices, noodles, sauce all so that I could make it to my own liking. They have a variety of other things on the menu, including spring and summer rolls, grilled pork, curry chicken, steamed rice crepes, etc., and a variety of drinks and deserts.

Just got finished eating lunch at Saigon --I will definitely be back. The food was great and reasonably priced. This is a no-frills kinda joint, simple and sparse decor. Not to say it wasn't pleasing --just don't expect a TGI Friday's feel. Service was good; my only complaint is that the serve brought me a diet caffeine free coke instead of just diet, and they served my fiance's meal about five minutes before mine came up. However, I'm not a complainer and overall I can overlook minor things in favor of a good meal that is something different. Can't wait to go back and try it again!

I definitely didn't enjoy the food here, but it's such a cute place with very friendly staff. I may give it another try some day, but I just wasn't impressed.

I love this place, happy to finally have a restaurant like this in my area. I love the decor and staff are so friendly! My favorite is the brisket pho, delish:) The shrimp with rice is awesome too, my daughter's fave. The rolls are great as well. It's very good on the wallet too!! I'll be coming back again and again.

I ordered the #28 the pork and grilled shrimp with noodles and it was amazing! But, my favorite were the egg rolls! I will be back over and over again! Highly recommend! My wife had the chicken pho and she loved it as well! Big portions!

Fresh spring rolls were good but not fantastic. The grilled pork sandwich is great...perfectly seasoned. I will definitely come back for the grilled meat and vermicelli noodles. The Pho was above average. Restaurant is clean and staff very friendly.

Really good Pho & spring rolls but they're a little pricey. I'm use to buying two bowls of pho and 2 spring rolls for around $20. This place charged me $40 for 3 bowls of phoe & 2 spring roll orders. Pricey but good, considering IDK of another place around to get some pho at. Atmosphere was nice and so was the staff. The pho broth was decent but like i said, IDK of another place around to get some pho. If anyone knows, please clue me in.
