Healthy Meal suggestions for China Wok

Every now and then I get a craving for Chinese food. You know, the cheap kind. They're all called something different, but have you noticed that the menus all look the same? Does the Chinese government control the menu design and content? I was at a friends house and was in the mood for.. you know.. cheap Chinese food. My handy-dandy Yelp app told me one was only a quarter mile away and even gave me the phone number. Those Yelp people make it SO EASY, don't they? The meal: fried potstickers, veggie egg roll and vegetable lo-mein. This is my "go to" cheap Chinese meal. The verdict: fried potstickers were.. uh.. "gummy." They weren't bad, but I've had better. The mixture inside was enough to scare me a bit too. Potsticker sauce covers up even the most questionable filling though, and I almost ran out. Veggie egg roll: hot, greasy, delicious. Cursing myself, I ate the whole thing while it was much too hot and should have waited. A cheap Chinese must! I skip the pork egg roll and opt for the veggie one instead. I think they taste better, and they don't have pork in them. Veggie Lo-Mein: not bad/not good. It was what I expected, but after devouring everything else, I honestly can say I didn't eat much of this. Now I understand why they put two fortune cookies in my bag.. the $10 meal easily could have fed two or perhaps even three. Unlike other Chinese places, China Wok doesn't offer delivery. Limited seating, and the dining room looks a little sketch. If you order, make sure you do carryout.

Been eating there for years now and I can honestly say their food quality has gone down hill. And I can honestly say I will never eat their again after I pulled a long piece of hair from my rice. Doesn't surprise me since none of their employees wear hair nets. The customer service when I called was extremely rude and didn't even tell me how much the price was before hanging up on me. Do not eat here.

As most people are saying its a typical strip Chinese place. However I found the crab rangoons above average for a place like this. The general tsos chicken was really tasty but not spicy at all. I might have given this place 4 stars but there is no soda fountain. You have to pay per can/bottle. I feel in today's society that's unacceptable for a restaurant.

This is my go to Chinese take out place. The food is about what you would expect for the price and I always feel like I get a good amount for my money here. My g to is the Hot and Sour Soup, Crab Ragoon and Orange Chicken. Is it the most gourmet Chinese ever? No, but its good take out and I tried quite a few other places in the area. I always judge a Chinese place on their Hot and Sour Soup and Crab Ragoon and both get my seal of approval (for what its worth ;) ) They don't offer delivery and their dine in isn't something I would recommend so go for the carry out

So I see some reviews that don't make sense. I did some investigating to find out people are reviewing 1 of 2 china Woks. The one I am going to talk about is on Allisonville and 96th street. The food here is great, they are very clean, and the food is very inexpensive for the amount you get, and very flavorful. My family eats here once a week. We introduced our out of town friends to this China Wok and now they want to eat here when they visit. You can also tell them if you want another ingredient, or if you want one taken out my daughter dosent like mushrooms so we take them out, and I like alot heat to mine so I add Chinese hot sauce. Again great food and great service.

I have been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and this place has got to be my favorite. I would not necessarily recommend it as a sit-down place, but for carryout it is the best in my opinion. Yeah, so maybe you can't understand the lady that is taking your orders, but with General's Chicken that good I can never complain. The people working here seem nice enough. Never had a problem using debit or credit at this place and everything on the menu is as good as it gets for standard Chinese food.

Good and cheap! Picked up some take out today for lunch. * I'm so full. * Had the general tso's chicken (stated that it was spicy but for me it was not. Next time I will ask them to alter the spiciness) and crab rangoon. Tasty, tasty, tasty and did I mention cheap! *Why do I keep eating* With my entree I turned into a combo which came with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The rice was good but I'll pass on the egg roll next time. It was nothing to write home about.

As far as walk-up/take-out strip mall Chinese goes, this place is awesome. I work about 2 miles west of it, and we've tried every Chinese take-out place in a 4 mile radius. We now only go to China Wok. Not sure if one reviewer was thinking of a different place, but they've been taking my debit card for about 2 or so years now. So don't be discouraged by that! GREAT egg rolls, good rangoons, excellent pork lo mein, decent hot & sour soup, good kung pao chicken, sesame chicken, cashew chicken, and I've heard my co-worker rave about the beef & broccoli. Great Chinese-American takeout. Cheap lunch specials, quick service (call ahead for a large carryout order!) and easy parking. Mmm...I'm thinking lo mein today.

Ok the food is ok not great price soso what I think for me was a never comeback deal was non of the cooks wash their hands after they pick up things from the floor To bad I notice after I finish eating so no I will not recommend this to anyone ;(( (Side note. If your are taking orders and handing money you should not be preparing or making my food )

I order take-out General Tso, which turned out to be 5% stringy, chewy chicken bits and 95% breading. The sauce was okay though a little too sweet. My boyfriend got Singapore Mei Fun. He said it was average. I personally didn't like the dry curry flavor, but I guess that's how it's supposed to be. The crab rangoon was okay. Decent-sized, lots of cream cheese, not much crab flavor but tasty.

Just went here for the first time. Food was fresh and very good. Egg rolls and crab Rangoon were crispy and not greasy. The whole family was very impressed. Highly recommend!

First visit and ordered sweet and sour chicken and beef w/veg for carry out. Ordered veg egg roll and they gave us pork. Ordered all white rice and they gave us one white rice and one pork rice. Not a good night for China Wok. Have 2 stars because they were quick but the order was incorrect and what was correct, didn't taste great. Won't be back.

Best damn Chinese food in the Indy/ Carmel area! I eat here daily! I have not found another place that serves as good of food as China Wok! I now have co-workers eating there as well Put this place on your "places to eat" list!

Yeah, really cheap as they said but note they do not take cards, cash only, theres an ATM on site and theres several banks within a mile radius so it's not that big of a deal. If you do use their ATM they subtract the fee it charges from your order. At any rate, I've been seeking good cheap Lo Mein and I've tried it all over Indy and hated it, I discovered this place a week ago and I had a pint while there and about five hours later ordered a quart to take home. The pint was as spicy as I ordered but the quart left a little to be desired in the heat department.. so today when I ordered my take out I asked for it to ignite my face, FIRE! They did well enough. I wasnt a big fan of the shrimp egg roll... and I haven't tried their vegetables but I don't even care they excel where all local Chinese has let me down and for a great price

This is my first time here. I was very pleased with the General Tso chicken. The combo was enough to fill me up and I could share with my baby(bonus)! The chicken was heavy on breading and light on chicken. I did like the sweetness of the sauce... it balanced out the saltyness of the soy sauce. The price is average for this type of take out place. The service is ok. I went an hour befor closing and they looked like they were ready to go. I will return as I love some chinese food...soon to be a regular!

My wife and I were looking for a good Chinese take out restaurant this evening and we decided to try "China Wok" it was close to home and had decent reviews, so we figured we'd give it a shot. We ordered General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Crab rangoons, chow mein, an egg roll and some won ton soup. We picked up the food and took it home. We started off with the Won ton soup, which was in fact delicious and some of the best won ton soup we had ever tasted! Next we tried the crab rangoon also good. Then we got into the entrees, the chicken. My wife and I popped the lids of our chicken containers and poked our chicken which first off was drowning and I mean DROWNING in sauce and not good sauce I might add, stringy not flavorful sauce ugh gross. We tried having one or two bites of the chicken but it was literally falling apart as we were trying to fork it into our mouths, it was so wet and soggy from the sauce. Rubbery, did I mention the chicken was rubbery? So I thought hmm let me pop this into the oven and see if we can crisp this chicken up a little bit. 15 mins of 425 and it was still rubbery. My wife and I looked at each other and said, "This is not good! We need to take this back". So we called and spoke with the manager and he seemed like he was going to be somewhat accommodating so we grabbed our coats, grabbed the food and went and took the bad food back. We arrived at the restaurant had brought our receipt as well. We showed the manager and told him what was wrong. He hesitated and looked at the food like he didn't believe us that the chicken entrees were not good and then he picked up the general tso's and noticed it was in a different container which we had put into a smaller leftover container from the wonton (we had thrown away the general tso's container) he then accused us of eating most of the general tso's (Well yeah we TRIED to eat some of it, that's how this food thing works). We could tell he was doubting our story like we looked like a bunch of hoodlums and do this sort of thing all the time. I'm guessing this isn't the first time someone has returned their food judging by his defensive reaction to us. Needless to say he finally gave us a refund and WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!

I'd call it 3.5 stars, better than average, but not quite 4 star. A standard cookie-cutter strip-mall walk-up-and-order-at-the-counter Chinese restaurant. Friendly cashier. I saw him give a freebie to a customer due to their (cashier's or cook's) mistake. Has dine-in seating. About 4 or 5 tables-for-four, and a couple tables-for-two. Dine-in food is brought to your table and served on a reusable type of plastic dinner plate, but the cheap plastic utensils, sauce packets and napkins are self-serve. My Moo Goo Gai Pan was good. Ambience was standard. Cleanliness up front was okay, but the men's room could have been cleaned better. Overall, the place needs some detail-cleaning that a regular mopping just doesn't get, like some grunge on the molding along the floor (typical lack of long-term cleaning maintenance that I see at this type of place.) Prices are good; they haven't gone up much since the last time I was there a few years ago. I dined in during the dinner hour, and there was a steady stream of take-out customers, and no other dine-in customers. Not worth going out of your way for, but these kinds of places are like the McDonalds of Chinese cuisine. Nothing spectacular, but formulaic enough so you know what to expect.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
