I came here for lunch with my co-workers. The staff was friendly and seated us in a timely manner. Though the staff was a bright spot in the experience, the decor of the restaurant certainly was not. It was comprised of dark woods and muted colors, and the lighting was very dim, which resulted in a somewhat gloomy atmosphere. Our server promptly came to our table once we sat down and delivered the complimentary chips and salsa. She was knowledgeable of the menu and was able to easily field the many questions we threw her way. I ordered the Choriqueso, which is a dip that comes with tortilla chips and consists of queso blanco and chorizo. It was good, but nothing memorable, additionally, it was a bit greasy. Everyone else at the table was happy with their food as well, but no one was wowed by anything. This dining experience was just okay. My meal was nothing that would make me long to come back, however, the prices are very reasonable. I gave a rating of three stars due to the food being okay versus impressive, and the decor being a bit drab. This restaurant definitely could use a makeover to brighten it up.

The burrito Toluca is the best burrito in Indianapolis, hands down. Go to this restaurant, get the chips and queso, burrito Toluca, and a large diet. Thank me later.

My family and I cannot get enough of Chile Verde. The food is excellent!!! They have a fun mariachi band on the weekend nights! Their margaritas are to die for...try the mimo's special. Let's see...Arroz con Pollo is my go to! They are the only Mexican restaurant that actually puts vegs with the meal! Soap de Pollo is the best hot soup ever! We typically keep this stalked in our fridge at home! Chicken & Mushroom quesadilla...although I can't eat it bc it's not GF, my family is obsessed!! Queso is a must! Carnitas are sooo yummy! Carne Bonitas??? I'm not sure what the name is but it's prolly my favorite...amazing pork with tomatoes and onions and avacado!! The owners are amazing too! I definitely recommend Chile Verde to all! :)

Good solid mexican food. Mostly text mex, but a few authentic dishes. Mariachi band on Friday is a nice touch

Pretty decent Mexican food. The chimi chimichanga is my favorite but they have good steak too. You really can't go wrong. The staff is great and it's fun to go when the Mariachi band is there.

A little dated, but good value. Salsa is hot without being painful. Nice buffet, would be improved with more customers and more consistent re-stocking. Salad bar a nice plus - various kinds of lettuce, but no tomatoes - there's a bowl of diced tomato/onion mixture - salsa basically. I understand it takes money to redecorate, and that money comes from an increase in customers... I'm reminded of a cornfield in Iowa; "if you build it, they will come". The place needs a facelift, but the food is good, and all you can eat Mexican for $7 is outstanding.

Only good thing about this spot was mariachis. Food was very bland and even drinks were not good.

I stare at Chile Verde every time I leave the gym and have wanted to try the lunch buffet for some time now. I figure if a place can do beans and rice and the basics well, it's worth a scouting visit for a try. What better way to get a feel for a place than to hit the buffet, right? I finally had a random afternoon off and so I grabbed the hubs and we stopped in for a late lunch -- around 1:45 -- and we were afraid the buffet would be picked over or under stocked. We did a walk-by and were reassured by the staff that they were getting ready to put more new food out, so we stayed. They were true to their word and refilled several of the options which was great as several 'late' tables came in after us as well. At $7.99 for all you can eat, this isn't a bad deal, really. There was a pretty good variety of options and they offer hard taco shells, an edible fried taco shell bowl for salads, and flour tortillas as base options to fill on the buffet. There was even a soup offered -- a chicken broth base with chicken and veggies -- that was pretty good actually. I liked the chicken options offered on the hot bar (shredded with sauce, fajita style, and something creamy with mushrooms) and was happy to sample some other random non-chicken meaty things, too. Surprisingly, the roasted meat was pretty tender, the tamale was decent, and nothing tasted like it had been sitting around, so that was a bonus. There were even Churros under a heat lamp for dessert. The "salad bar" was a little lack luster, but it's a Mexican place, so I didn't think that was a deal breaker. The salsa and chips were actually my least favorite part of the meal which is odd as I am usually a salsa-aholic. Their salsa was a strange kind of orange color and pretty spicy on the back end. I opted to skip the salsa and use a few chips for queso blanco (on buffet) instead. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the atmosphere in this place. It was super dark inside. Like randomly dark for the middle of the day dark. Like the buffet area was even dark and it was sometimes hard to tell what was in the food bins. There were random holes in the tile floor filled with rags stuffed in them or they were taped over -- not sure what that was about. However, it didn't feel dirty per se -- it was just oddly dark, pretty vacant, and a little outdated. If half-stars were an option, I would say this was a solid 3 1/2 star experience. However, since our server was nice and we both got super full and happy for under $20, I will round up for now. We will go back during dinner hours for another shot as I hear they make a good margarita.

Was in the area with friend for an event and wanted to go somewhere for lunch. Of course I pulled out my phone and yelped! Found Chili Verde and boy were we glad. Everybody loved it. Good authentic flavor, great chips & salsa, veggie enchiladas, etc... Good price too. Highly recommend.

this place is you standard Mexican fare and on weekdays they have a great buffet which my coworkers and i like. we go there to get ourselves stuffed once every month. I think their salsa is very good and the chips are usually fresh and hot for lunch. their lunch menu has been adding on stuff over the past few months and now for 8 bucks they have more stuff on buffet then i could hope for. Only reason it gets a 4 star is because their tacos are not as good as i would like them to be. as my experience with other meals is limited, i am not sure how they are for dinner, but a great place to catch lunch.

Pretty bland all in all. I wanted some spice, cilantro, something...

Met a colleague for lunch. Chips are fresh and salsa is spicy - just as it oughta be. Convenient lunch specials at 6.99 have something for everyone. I chose #1 - the Relleno with re fried beans and a taco fresco on the side. It's how I evaluate a Mexican restaurante. This eatery's version is a wonderfully breaded and deep fried cheese stuffed dream. I loved it. My lunch partner had the Speedy Gonzales - as she always does. Substitutes a different sauce to top the enchiladas. All round good eats.

I went hear on a whim- I was hungry and didn't feel like cooking. I have to say a few things- the owners daughter and her friends were there when I stopped in to order, they were being typical giggly Highscool girls, it was just annoying and unprofessional. However- I can look passed that for decent food. Big chunks of steak- Large petals of onions and bell peppers. The wrap was a little doughy- but I like mine that way. The salsa was not very thick- but it did carry a build up kick- I have eaten ghost pepper salsa so this was mild to me, but still good. I would have liked it to be a little chunkier, but not bad. I would go back again

The food was good and the prices were good too. I have a soft spot for any restaurant that offers chorizo. It was very busy and my server was courteous and attentive in spite of the crowd. I would have given a higher rating, but I was surrounded by families with small, noisy children that were running all over the place. I don't know if this was an isolated incident. They all seemed to know each other. The kids were so loud that the noise irritated me, which took away from my overall experience (which was no fault of the restaurant).

How this place has an overall rating of 4 stars baffles me. The only conclusion I can come to is it just may be 4 stars by Mid-Western standards. This place wouldn't last 6 months before they went out of business in Colorado, California, or any place in the South-West. First the positive, the rice was cooked correctly and the chips were fried fresh. The salsa was so-so, it lacked bite which was pretty much the theme throughout my whole meal. There just isn't any heat on ANYTHING they serve. I've ate there a few times over the last 6 years and if anything my experience has been consistent. Yesterday I stopped to grab a bite to go since I haven't ate there in about 5 years. I ordered the bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and rice combo with a beef taco on the side. The taco was almost inedible, it was soooo greasy it collapsed through the bottom of the shell. The beef was what you would expect if you made it with one of those McCormick seasoning packets at home except they never drained the grease from the hamburger. One bite, straight into the trash can. The bean burrito and cheese enchilada were both covered in a SWEET enchilada sauce that tasted of nothing. I strongly suspect it came out of a can. The beans were cooked into oblivion but did have the appearance of being cooked from scratch. The cheese enchilada was made with queso fresco and an utter failure. The queso fresco could not carry through the sweet enchilada sauce, the flavor was so mild I couldn't tell there was any cheese in it without seeing it with my own eyes on the fork. I won't be going back there. If I bought my friends from Colorado there they would walk out after the first bite. Bad, bad, bad.

Chili Verde is a solid choice for Mexican if you're around this area. My friend and I suddenly got the urge to eat on the evening of some sort of sporting event...this was great for us, as the restaurant was virtually empty! Unfortunately, they had sports on the TVs, so boo to that, haha. Anyway, we decided to be gluttons and ordered some chimichangas...and wow, just wow, the plates were large and totally covered in food. I got the chicken verde one and it was wonderful; rice, beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole came on the side. After vowing to take half home for later, we promptly ate everything on our plates then proceeded to sit around like losers for the rest of the night. It was just too hard to move after consuming so much amazing goodness. Also, I'm a salsa lover and kind of picky about it...the salsa here was awesome. It was a nice mix of cool flavor with just enough heat that builds if you keep shoveling it in like some people tend to do...yeah, I'm making the innocent face with the shifty eyes right here... This part of town doesn't have a lot in the way of Mexican restaurants so get over to Chili Verde and make sure they have plenty of business so that they may continue to grace the neighborhood!

I'm not seeing what everyone is going on about. It is okay. Maybe the fact they had a gnat problem prevented me from enjoying the food. I won't be going back, at least not by myself.

Ate here last night with my family. Food was good, not the best Mexican I've ever had, but I'll definitely go back. I had the chile Colorado burrito, which was really good. The rice left something to be desired as it was rather bland. Service was great, fast and friendly. We even got an appetizer on the house because of a mix up in the kitchen (problem with someone else's order, so our waiter was nice and thought to give it to us). Love the salsa!!

Loved the burrito I got here - it had their "chile colorado" in it, and it was absolutely delicious. Not so sure about the salsa, though. It tasted vaguely like broccoli.

I have been here for dinner on a Friday night and it was AMAZING! I went for lunch on a Friday and it was AWFUL. The waiter brought me out the wrong food...twice. On the third try, the food was correct, but covered in cheese, which I can' t have. (Allergies and I specified kindly) I should have just eaten the taco buffet. :) They were gracious enough to take the food off my bill. But not my beverage....that I never got a refill on. MEH!

Do not waste your money. This place is the bottom of the barrel. Carne Asada was as dry and tough as the sole of a shoe. No taste to the tilapia in the fish tacos. Cheapest tequila used for their "premium" Texas Margarita. I typically would not even think about coming to a place like this except my insurance agent gave me a gift certificate for my birthday for a free entree and a free margarita any size. I asked the waiter (who was a smartass) which margarita to order with the certificate and he told me the Texas margarita. At check out, the cashier (who was equally a smartass) did not give me my margarita for free because that wasn't what the certificate said. In the end, we paid $40 for food that I would not even feed my dog.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
