Been eating at this restaurant for the past 12 years since we moved to Griffith, IN -- they have a dine-in so are slightly higher in price than the cheap carry-out strip mall restaurants, but their quality is much better than the other restaurants in the area in my opinion. I grew up on Chinese food because my mother was born in China and am picky when it comes to Chinese food. Family owned and operated, delicious!

My boyfriend recently moved to Griffith and we both like Chinese food a lot. This place was actually really good, just not as good as J's Peapod back home, but nobody can be better than J's. I had their General Tso's chicken and it was delicious and I usually hate it, so that's saying something!

Its take out... Nothing I would go out of my way for. The days are hit or miss for good and bad days.

Used to enjoy this place, but it's so dirty in there any more that I won't patronize them. Food has taken a dive in quality as well. Although it is very near my home, I now drive to a much-better establishment elsewhere.

I'm not sure what it is about their fried rice that makes it so very different (and better) than every other Chinese place I've dined, but it is fantastic. When I moved away from The Region, I missed it. I craved it. Their egg rolls are good, but on the greasy side. My favorites are the sweet & sour chicken and the beef & broccoli. The staff is friendly and move at a quick pace. The prices are affordable/inexpensive and you get a lot of food. I always end up taking more than half of my order home with me when we dine in. To Go Tip: Ask for extra hot mustard packets if you like it. One packet is just NOT enough for me. :)

Not what it used to be :( so disappointed ... they still give giant portions but what good is that if the food doesn't have any flavor. It tastes like everything is frozen then fried then slathered in sauce and slapped on a plate ... it was greasy and flavorless ... sorry china koon .. even if you were a childhood favorite it's just not the same.

Food is not bad but really greasy/oily. After picking up my eggroll my hands were sopping wet w oil. Kung pow chicken was rather bland although advertised HOT. The service was great. The older Chinese man who runs the place was constantly checking up on us. Also the prices for lunch specials were great and food portion is really good w several alternatives for sides if you don't want the fried rice. For dine in Chinese, it isn't that bad but I think I'll go w another alternative for take outs.

This place is okay. I'm giving it 3 stars by midwestern standards. In the west coast, this would be a 1 star. I'm not expecting a lot from Indiana asian food so this would be categorized under greasy american chinese fare- which sometimes can be awesome if you're in the mood for fat ass inducing food. Which also can be good if done right. But when it's bad, good Lord it's disgusting. My bestest buddy thought she'd have the nerve to show me her favorite chinese place that serves good egg drop soup. I ordered the hot and sour soup and some potstickers. I gave her props for being right that the soups were good, flavorful and not loaded with corn starch. I HATE that. Who wants to eat a bowl of hot and sour soup pudding? Not me. I'm looking at you Yummy Yummy in Lakeview. (that's a Chicago neighborhood for any Indiana folks reading this) I usually never go for egg drop soup and I'm pretty traumatized by hot and sour soups in the midwest so I never even think about them, but I would go out of my way for these again if I happened to be in Indiana. Same with their potstickers! They are pretty good, obviously made in house cuz I can tell by the dough and it's pan fried. A little greasy but really good. I got my friend hooked on these cuz she never tried them here before. As for their entrees.. meh, they are okay, they have dinner combo's that come with a soup and eggroll... there's options to have it with noodles or fried rice, plain rice. When it says noodles it's just noodles that are plain, no seasoning which I thought was weird and gross. Most chinese places at least lightly stir fry it up with a little seasoning. I got that with sweet and sour shrimp which were pretty standard. I like that they serve the sauce on the side. It's homemade sweet and sour sauce by the way... very similar in taste and appearance as my dad's homemade sweet and sour sauce. We also had seafood kow and chicken and brocolli at the table.. both in white sauces, they were okay. Same with the eggroll, they use chinese bbq pork in it and some bits were fatty- which I loooved the fatty bits. It's a pretty good americanized egg roll. I want to come back and give their moo shu a try. I feel like this place can be a hit or miss but the owners are so nice and friendly, very in your face friendly. The guy is like that- just like my dad. The type that would say loudly to you while you're asleep- Gooooooooooooooood Mooooooooorning DOLL! WAKEE UUP!!!! Banging pots and pans. Overly friendly, loud- well meaning asians.. they do exist.

Their quality has taken a nosedive in recent years. Was definitely disappointed with my recent visit. The food was lacking in flavor and was overpriced compared to similar places.

The food is fu**ing terrible! I had the house special fried rice and I would rather drink the stuff they give you right before a colonoscopy

This used to be the best Chinese place around, but it changed ownership several years ago and it just keeps going downhill. This last trip will probably be my last. We ordered take out, I ordered one dinner, the shrimp with lobster sauce, two orders of the pork fried rice, and an order of spare ribs. The total was $35, which I thought was steep, but I had ordered extra meat in my rice. When my order was ready, they had only given me one order of fried rice. I told them I ordered two. The guy was nice about it and said he will get it right away, the lady was the one who took the order but he said he would fix it. He said he needs to charge me for it because I wasn't charged yet. I thought I had already paid for it because the price was so high for so little food. He added it all up and said no, he needed to charge me. I personally thought since they messed up they should have fixed it, but I needed the rice because my family was waiting so I said fine and did not argue. He rung up the second order and the price was $11.50! I almost fell over. The normal price for fried rice is $6.75, they charge $4 each for extra meat. The lady came back out with my order and I said it was kind of expensive for extra meat, to which she started to yell at me and say she gave me a ton of meat and I shouldn't complain. I just left because I was hungry and didn't want to argue. When I got home, I served the rice, which did not appear to have any extra meat in it at all. It seemed to have the same amount as normal pork fried rice which annoyed me. To make matters worse, the $12 shrimp with lobster sauce I ordered was almost all sauce and only had seven total shrimp, certainly not enough to share which was the intention. This place used to be the best when the original owners had it, but ever since they sold it to their family and then the family separated into two restaurants this place has gone downhill. I recommend driving to the second restaurant owned by the other part of the family.... The food is better and it is much cleaner and they don't try to scam you. My meal total was $47, and we only had one actual dinner order and then three sides. Too expensive and not as good as it used to be.

This has been a go to spot for me for several years now. Having been right down the road from where I used to work, I would frequently go there for lunch. Now I live 45 minutes away and still find myself driving the long distance just to get food from there. I love their Hot and Sour soup. It is by far the best I've ever tried and I have had it in many many places. I usually get the huge bowl of it which is the best deal around. Everything I've had off of the regular menu is great at an awesome price. I will keep going here again and again, even if only for the hot and sour! Highly recommended.

My husband and I would go to china koon about once a week for the last 18 years. But as of the other day we will not return. The waiter was rude, the food was a let down and not worth the price. Also when a waiter drops the food in your lap it would be nice if he would of said sorry. Guess he didn't care about customer or his tip

Owned by the lovely Lau family, China Koon is THE spot for real deal Chinese food in G-town. My favorite chicken fried rice of all time comes from China Koon and while their crab rangoon is not my favorite, at least they have it. China Koon is a friendly, family-owned and operated place that offers great lunch deals and specials. I might have to make a stop on my next trip to Griffith... *Edit* Okay, so I tried to stop at the CK yesterday, but word to the wise--China Koon is CLOSED on Sundays. Drat.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
