I love The Original Granny's! I've been coming to this restaurant for years now, and have never been disappointed by the food or service. I appreciate that every time I come in I am welcomed by the owner or his son, and seated almost immediately. I normally come for breakfast and get either an omelet or skillet, but every so often I try one of the son's sweet creations. Recently a whole new "specials" menu has surfaced, with innovative french toast and pancake options that just blow me away. I must warn you though, they are very sweet. Apart from the delicious food, the service is kind and personable and I rarely see the bottom of my coffee cup. I highly recommend coming in for breakfast, lunch, or just coffee. It's warmth and family friendly atmosphere, coupled with food that hits the spot every time has made The Original Granny's my "go-to" breakfast joint when I'm in Illinois.

Pretty good breakfast place that is hidden away. Fast service with good quality food. There Mexican skillet was amazing, just needed a few more jalapenos. I didn't get to try the pancakes with the skillet, I was already too full from that and 2 milkshakes. There vanilla milkshake is mush better than strawberry. Good family environment.

I haven even coming here for 11 years and have never been disappointed. The potatoe pancakes, Mexican omelet, blintzes, and any of the Benedict or crepe dishes are the best in the area. The nice thing about this place is that hey treat you like family. Even after a 6 month hiatus from going there, they asked about my mother (now deceased) and promptly seated us at our regular table. Will keep coming back.

On the way out of the Chicago area, we hit up Granny's for breakfast. We were told repeatedly that the place is called Original Pancake House, but it is not. That's a different restaurant. I'm glad I was at this one. The sign out front is classic. You know what you're getting into. We got there just in time. A good number of people were looking for a Father's Day breakfast and the waiting area is pretty small. The guy running the front of the restaurant knew several people that came in the door. Maybe not by name, but he knew orders, drinks, favorite seats, etc. Always good to see. They clearly have a regular following. It's a greasy spoon. The menu looks it, the decor shows it, the coffee tastes like it, and the service is fantastic. I liked my meal. I got a Good Ole Boy omelette. I've never had white gravy on an omelette before, but it worked out well enough. Blue Crunch pancakes were delicious (albeit too sweet to eat alone), and they had rye toast. A nice way to end my time in Illinois.

I really really want to like this place. Let me say that I would give 2.5 stars falling just short of the 3 star A-OK rating. Sometimes the food is ok. But a few more times than not, food has come out inconsistent. In total I'd say my wife and I have been here about 6 times. If you're in a hurry or just want to grab a bite, then maybe it's an ok place to go. Most recently the wife and I ordered almost the same omelette. Her's came out near burnt while mine came out fine. When she sent it back, the new one came back and looked even better than mine. Waitress was attentive and very prompt in getting a new one. Coffee and water stay filled. To be clear, the service is good, the place is convenient...but the food quality and some of the menu items is where it loses the stars. There are a few other breakfast places in the area that have stellar food and the price is in the same ballpark. I'm not opposed to giving this place another shot at some point in the future if the menu or quality of food changes.

Tasty and not overwhelmingly huge portions! We came here the day after a wedding and loved our orders. I got the south of the border skillet, another got the meat lovers one, one had pancakes the other French toast. So nice to go to a good breakfast place that's not a total greasy spoon that has high quality food in reasonable portions for a good price!

Alex was ours friendly waiter who recommended the perfect breakfast after flying all night. We had the salsa omelet with pancakes, home made sausage and thick cut bacon. Their coffee was excellent as well.

A terrific Greek Breakfast Place. The Omelet's are baked in the oven and are tender and fluffy. Hash browns are pretty good and can be replaced by fresh fruit and a health portion of cantaloupe. The Coffee is fresh ground and if you like Dunkin Donut's coffee you will love theirs. Never had bad service or a bad breakfast at Granny's. The Pancakes are pretty good as well but a bit small. Dinner is hit or miss. Grannys is not a place I would go for Dinner with the "Market Square" across the street. When all said and done you should get away for breakfast Under $10.00 plus tip of course. Opens at 6:00 AM which is getting harder to find a restaurant that opens early.

Good food and good service. Went for brunch, about 11am and it wasn't so busy as it is early morning hours. Good food for a decent price. Our waitress was attentive, didn't rush us and the busboys were coming around often checking on our drinks. I'll be coming back. :)

Been eating at grannys since I was little and it is always awesome!!! Omelettes are huge and great tasting...I recommend the Denver with cheese!!! No omelettes like this in az and do I miss it!!!!

GRANNY'S IS OPEN. . . I'm not sure why it was posted differently!! I have been there several times and the food is consistantly good. The wait staff is always friendly and we never feel like we are being rushed. It is a great place to bring the whole family!

I've been going here for quite awhile for breakfast. A good pancake house. Great fluffy omelets and ham "off the bone". The blueberry pancakes are fantastic, chock full of fresh blueberries. Egg dishes are served with toast or pancakes. Coffee is good and full-flavored (a prerequisite for a weekend morning). Staff is always pleasant and friendly. Reasonably priced, especially when the quality is equal to Walker Bros. up the street. The only drawback is a slightly dated look and the fact that smoking is allowed in an area directly next to non-smoking and the ventilation isn't great. This will be rectified in the spring, though, when Wheeling goes smoke-free.

I've come here a few times and have always found it a great place for breakfast. The skillets are incredible, and they always make the hash browns a bit crispy when i ask. The coffee is great, smooth and not bitter. I did have one run in with a snooty waitress, but all in all the service is great, and the menu is full of variety. A great wheeling institution!

Great little find! Went to another place the line was too long, went do the road and stumbled across this place. Good quality breakfast. Portions are generous and hot. Omelette had a ton of advertised ingredients and weren't flat! The best find is the Loukomades French toast. This is a Greek donut, they totally replicate the flavors, it was AWESOME! Good price and great service. Good place to go if your hungry!

I liked the skillets and pancakes here, but apparently making a fried egg with a hard yolk without burning it is next to rocket science. I walked out having eaten burnt hash browns and two pancakes because apparently it's too hard to make a normal egg. Instead of solving my problem, I was told to take four dollars off the bill and rushed out of there. Talk about customer service. I will never come back.

This place has a pretty large menu but is very average in their food. It's not exactly good but not exactly bad. The textures are okay and it's not overly flavorful or flavorless. If you're in the area and you want a sit in place with a more complete menu and good prices you can stop by, but it's not a place I would make a special trip to have a meal at.

New in this place but as I walked in I was welcomed very well felt like they already knew me. Service was prompt and coffee was excellent. I had the mexican eskilllet which was pretty good just wished they served it with beans or rice to really give it that mexican taste. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Best breakfast/lunch place in the suburbs!!! Always the highest quality food and hospitality! The skillets are amazing, the gypsy skillet is a must-try! Also you need to get the orange creamsicle pancakes, perfect for summer. For lunch, I love the Cajun chicken sandwich, probably the best I've ever had! I highly recommend The Original Granny's to all my family/friends. Such a great place, enjoy!

This place is perfect if you are 70+, have hearing problems, or really really wanna learn about bunions, cordizon shots, or urinary disfunction. But if you want good coffee and good food this is not where you will find either.

I came here for lunch ..The ambience is quite cosy .. Old decor... nothing antique though ..But quite pleasing an relaxing ...there was not much crowd for weekday lunch ..The tables are quite closely placed... was served with coffee the minute I entered...the lunch menu has quite a lot variety ...ordered spicy feta omlette ... again the dish was average nothing special ... would love to visit this place again to try several other menu items ...

best thing here... the American skillet. it's corned beef hash with american cheese over potatoes with two eggs any way you like it on top. side of pancakes on the side makes it even better. My wife and I never get anything else here, but this is awesome.

Wow, the worst turkey burger I've ever tasted. I was afraid it was rancid, the flavor was so musty and bad. But, the tortilla soup was good.

If there were a way to give this place NO stars I would. Where to begin? The place is a mess, the service is awful, I had to ask for new silverwear becuse what was in the table had hardend eggs on it. the food was served cold and when I poliyly asked to have it replaced with hot food, the server, and then the owner who I asked to speak to after the server rolled her eyes, acted as if it were MY falt my breakfest was room temperature. It then took 20 minutes to get my new on, and it was at best "ok". When we left and paid, the owner took lour money and never made eye contact, no thank you, no apology for the bad food and service, nothing. Avoid this place at ALL cost

Maybe the decor looks a little dated, with cheesy murals on the wall, and a picture of a red demon in an apron, which turned out the be The Granny. But, who gives a crap about the decor, when you can stuff your face with BEST omelets imaginable?? I am a religious follower of an artichoke and feta cheese omelet, and I could gladly offer my first newborn, if I ever have one, for that treat. That comes with toast or pancakes, and fruit or hash browns. The owner is a really nice guy, and the wait staff is attentive and polite. The place is huge, so it is never crowded in there, which makes the atmosphere really relaxed and calm. Especially in the morning. Seriously , this place is fantastic.

We've been breakfasting at the Original Granny's Restaurant for over 20 years and we keep coming back because they do breakfast good and they do breakfast fast. They serve lunch too, incidentally, but I've never had lunch here. Granny's is one of those "Greek owned" joints you find all over Chicagoland (you can already picture the place in your mind). The restaurant is on the small side but they keep the crowd moving and it never seems too busy (like Denny's for example). The owner, or his son, will greet you and seat you - they might know you by name if you come in often enough. The servers have been here for years and they work hard with a smile! The coffee is hot and good and they keep it coming. A previous reviewer called the coffee 'swill' - pffft... come on now. You want an old-fashioned baked pancake? They can do that. You want a Gyros omelet with feta cheese?? They make a particularly good one here. I try to limit my carbohydrate intake these days so it's either pancakes or hash-browns - they are both so good, it's hard for me to choose. Oh... and you can't miss with one of their skillets - sometimes I go with the Greek skillet... that's a good one. They actually sponsored my little league baseball team back in '83 (or was it '84? '85?) and their granny logo is still the same. A previous reviewer called her the 'old demon in an apron' which is hilariously accurate. I wish I could find a good picture of Granny... it's a creepy image - trust me.

I lived in Wheeling for almost 20 years and literally lived down the street from this place, but I never went to this family owned establishment until last October. We went on a Sunday when the place was packed with all elderly church goers? They all could have been regulars and I could see why. The food was very good and tasted home made (check my uploaded pic) and the staff was very friendly and attentive. The next time I spend the night at my parent's house, I'm def making a trip to the Original Granny's.

Would give them half a star, if that. We visited Granny's this Sunday morning about 6:30 AM. We walked in the door and there were two or three patrons. The waitress, I think her name was Sue, was busy visiting with another customer. Even after seating us she returned to visit with the customer she was previously visiting with. I ordered the Nutrella Stuffed French Toast, the menu says its complemented with strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream. It's more liked its buried in whipped cream. The eye appeal was certainly not there, not to mention the taste left a lot to be desired. The strawberries were colorless, limp berries that had been frozen, the french toast was not crunchy, and too top it off with so much whipped cream was like they were trying to hide the french toast. When I said something about the strawberries, I was told that is how its been served for along time. I was offered more bananas or I could order something else. To be honest, I really didn't want to order anything else, and my husband would have been finished by the time my order was replaced. I looked above my head by the ceiling vents to see dust hanging onto the vent close to my table. Overall this restaurant could use a good cleaning not to mention updating. Won't return here. There are plenty on other good restaurants in the area, Walker Brothers, and Ellys to name a few. Don't waste your time or money here.

This place is awful. Went over the weekend, the whole place looks like a mess, the presentation of the food on those cheap plates look bad. They don't even use real syrup for the pancakes (it was very watery, almost like soy sauce). The biscuits and gravy full order is 1.5 biscuits cut up, so I don't even know what the half order would be. Overall, I felt rushed and would never go back there. It's not worth the $, would've rather gone to nasty IHOP.

First off, the coffee is absolute swill. Tank up before you go. Saturday morning was a good time to go, not too packed, meaning I could actually maneuver my fat ass between tables. I arrived before my hub and his p's (they always have to use the bathroom before going for a two minute drive) and had my eye on a nice big round table in front. But, their bowels made them late and I lost the table to another party. We got stuck in the middle and were cramped. There's just no room to open the leaves on a round table in this place. The hash browns were nice and crispy...no, crunchy, just the way I likes em. The omelet was a little too brown on the outside and I prefer my cheese inside the omelette-this was all mixed up with the inside shit on the outside, then they bake it so your cheese gets all hard. The inside egg was fluffy though, not a total loss. The pancakes were not tender as I would expect. Frisbee on a plate anyone? Six pats of whipped butter and a half cup of syrup softened those babies right up. This place is ok...not great, just ok. Service was attentive.

Visited this place for the first time a few days ago after driving past it for months. I can't say I wish had kept driving past, but I'm not sure I'll add it to my list of breakfast haunts. I had the sourdough french toast with a side of sausage links. The french toast was a healthy portion and fairly good. A few dry spots where it didn't soak up the egg enough, but not a terrible offense. The sausage was good, but nothing that surpasses the usual package of Jimmy Dean. My husband had the "Big Boy" Omlet special: sausage, peppers and cheese in a 3 egg omelet smothered in sausage gravy. It came with a side of hashbrowns and he got the option pancakes. One of the many priviledges I get as wife is I have free reign to taste anything he orders. The omelet was pretty good. Large portion, and they didn't skimp on the filling. The sausage gravy was pretty good, though a touch too salty for me. And the pancakes reviewers mentioned were quite good as well; buttery and fluffy. Overall the food was good, but not great. I was hoping for that magical grandmother touch where the food is simple but amazing. This was just "pretty decent". I can't put my finger on it, but it just didn't have that extra something that would keep me coming back for more. The most disappointing part was the service. Our waiter seemed in quite the hurry to rush us to order though the restaurant was no where near crowded for a Saturday morning. He toed the line between indifference and hostile. He took our orders, and never returned to check on us after the food was delivered (by someone else). Wouldn't be too big of a problem if my husband wasn't waiting for his short-stack of pancakes for 15 minutes before we even saw the waiter to wave him down.

After a 25 year pause, I thought I would try this place again. We came here for Dinner, however, not Breakfast as most of the reviewers did. Maybe dinner is not the best choice of times. It was almost deserted last night when we arrived, and less busy when we left. The food was just ok overall, standard diner fare. We had the chopped steak (ok, but a slightly odd flavor I couldn't place), and the pork cutlet (Pretty good). Each came with soup - chicken noodle was ok, the navy bean was great. Sides (fries or hash browns) were fine. Service was very friendly and very efficient. The prices seem reasonable. Still, based on experience and other's opinions, I'd say go for the breakfasts and save dinner for another place, say the Market Square about 1 block east.
