I took a chance on going here. The service wasn't great quality wise. The older lady assumed I knew the menu. I didn't know it at all. She was sweet at heart I'm sure but qulity service is important. I ordered the chicken parm. To me it tasted like pure butter and you could see the grease in the sauce. I did not eat it after the first bite. Took it home for some one else to try. The dinner salad was OK but they do not have vinaigrette or any lite dressings so I ate it plane. The soup was really good, forgot the name. sorry. The Mexican server was rude, slamming the drinks on the table and not gently setting them down. He gets a neg. 5 star. LOL!

Kudos to the smoking ban in Illinois! I still taste urinal cakes in the air and walking in the front door is like running the gauntlet...hold your breath as you run past the floozies smoking their Kools. Another in-law excursion to my least favorite place. I have no problem with the greek-style spaghetti sauce in general but this place doesn't know how to make it edible. It has tomatoes in it, thus it should be red. This was brown and tasted like it too. I ate my chicken, that was ok. The pasta was a waste under it's brownish, burnt cinnamon sauce. I brought it home, thinking I could doctor it into edibility but it ended up going down the garbage disposal. The cream of chicken rice soup used to be a comforting bowl of wall paper paste, now it is a cup of thinned out cream soup. Tasty still, but leaving me wanting for something else. The breakfasts are alright. They've improved slightly. I can tolerate them but there are better places for breakfast.

Was seated in the bar area...now, the smoking ban in Illinois has been in place for a few years now....and I immediately could smell smoke entering this place. Food was okay... one thing I did like was that I asked for fruit instead of fries, and the fruit they brought me was quite impressive and tasty...not the usual small cup of cut up stuff. Diet Coke seemed kinda flat....maybe their bar gun needs some more CO2.

Market Square is one of those little wormholes, a portal to a simpler place when people seemed just a little bit nicer, medium-rare meant something closer to well-done and flavors were overall quite tame. I stopped in while trying to fend off the symptoms of a cold I picked up over the weekend. My matzo ball soup, generally reliable, was a little bland for me today. Maybe it was my cold thus I will have to reevaluate again at some point. The meatloaf with mashed potatoes was unremarkable, but I've had other entrees here in the past that were quite good. I remember having a decent reuben here last time. The one thing that always stands out is how the servers are always very nice. It's an older crowd most of the time, and that's a good thing. When the world seems a bit complicated, Market Square's pleasant vibe just might make you smile a little. The meals may not always pick up my taste buds, but coming here helps to pick up my spirits when I'm feeling run down.

Sometimes mediocre works!!! Folks welcome to the most "ok" restaurant you will ever visit. The food is ok, the prices are ok, the service is ok, the atmosphere is ok. So why the four stars you ask?? Because on a Sunday at 10:30 am THE PLACE IS PRETTY MUCH EMPTY!! That's right all you pancake/skillet/omelette chompers - while your "out of the know" snooty friends are standing elbow to elbow in an excruciating Walker Brother /Rise n' Dine time warp, you will already be furtively reaching over to the table next to you to grab a blue French Vanilla to sweeten for you second cup of "ok" coffee. Frankly my heart goes out to management. They deserve better. All that said, as a matter of full disclosure, the place is located in wheeling and as you look around the restaurant at your fellow diners you will quickly be reminded of such . . . NOT AN ATTRACTIVE CROWD. And so in summary 1) visit the restaurant, 2) keep your order necessarily simple and 3) try to confine your sight line to the perimeter of you own booth Now that I think about it, the slogan for this place ought to be : "Welcome to Market Square where you will always find a seat because we are nobody's favorite restaurant". Vie l' mediocre!!!

I passed by this place so many times when I lived in this area, and never went. My friend suggested coming here for dinner one night, so we went. It's a dark, dumpy version of Baker Square. It seemingly is never busy. The bar was full of regulars, and probably the restaurant part as well. They have a smorgasbord of different things on their manu. It is cheap for how much you get (we got a soup and bread with our meal), but it just wasn't that good. The bread is stale, the food lacks flavor, it's just blah. The service wasn't bad, but the food just isn't good. It was pretty much what I had expected.

Don't know what happened here. This place used to be an average Greek - American restaurant. They changed something and it's become great! Food quality has much improved, presentation, portions and service are way better! I had one of the best skillet breakfasts that I've ever had.. Whatever they are doing.... Keep it up!

I've tried and tried giving chance after chance. I am the 3rd generation here in Wheeling and loved coming here as a kid. But nothing has changed here to keep up with the competition.

I want to add to my review that Sam has been so good to my elderly father upon delivering food. Sometimes on nights that he is on his own, he feels safe and confident to order dinner and have it delivered by Sam himself. This really is our go to home restaurant!

This was my fiance and I first time here and we loved it! It was honestly great food, service was very slow but it was because we had a new server , very nice though. The pricing couldn't be beat , it was clean and everyone seemed to act like family. We will now be regulars because of the good food, nice environment and especially now that we now Carol works there as a server! She is the best, hands down!!!

I have lived in Wheeling and the general area for more than 30 years... Have driven by them many times but for some reason never stopped to try their food... Well, it has been my loss! Finally had them deliver some food last night and it was absolutely awesome! We had their cheddar burger, barbecue chicken and barbecue ribs... The burger was cooked perfectly and had a great taste to it... The chicken and ribs were to die for! Nice tangy barbecue sauce that was finger lickin' good! I can't stop there, we had cheesecake, coconut cream pie and a chocolate eclair... All I can say is I see myself weighing over 300 pounds in the near future! LOL Great food, quick delivery, inexpensive pricing... win/win/win!

Everyone likes their food with a smile, and that's what I got. The waitresses and waiters were so nice, and the food was amazing. I had Greek chicken.

Don't bother. I love dive diners, but this place is gross! The carpet is old and dirty, and the furniture is sticky. We came in with our 15-month-old babies. It took 10-15 minutes for a server to greet us. I ordered an egg white omelette- half of it came out raw. The server took it back to the kitchen. It took twenty minutes for it to come again - by that time, my husband was done and the kids were climbing out of their high chairs. I asked for the meal to go. The hostess came over and said she would take the omelette off the bill if I didn't want it. I told her I wasn't happy, so she took the omelette, tossed it into a bus pan and took it off our bill. The appropriate thing for her to have done was offer my meal on the house. In summary - dirty atmosphere, lousy service. Oh, and the coffee is watered down.

Went for breakfast. Decent but not great. They also have bloody Mary's to order and just a tip ask for better vodka bc their well vodka come out of a plastic bottle.

We went to Market Square this past Sunday for a early dinner.... Dinner didn't happen. We had to walk out of this place after we were already seated. Super EMBARRASING , they have nothing vegetarian on the menu but grilled cheese OR a chicken stir fry and they can remove the chickens..... Wow. I don't care that the place looks old, in fact I think it was charming and lovely. There just was nothing to eat for someone who does not eat meat. This is the first Greek place that I've ever been to who does not at LEAST have spinach pie, and maybe rice and Greek style green beans?? The waitress was super nice, she was 70 plus and working really hard. I made it a point to go to the front counter when we were leaving the place hungry and I told the hostess that we were leaving because there was nothing vegetarian on the menu, the owner was standing right next to her and did nothing. It is what it is, this place serves a very old population of people and they are doing nothing to incorporate the food and flavors of 2015. Seriously: not even a veggie wrap, veggie burger or anything similar. They didn't even have a soup I could have or anything they would even offer to make. Greek owned places will generally have spanakopita, moussaka with vegetables or at least navy bean soup! I have never in my life had to leave a place because they could not find a single thing to serve that was current for 2015. I feel so bad writing this review, it's just the truth.

Love the food!! I have never had a bad meal here. The quality of food is great. Their breakfast is always good (I love the spinach and feta omelet) and their lunch/dinner is just as good- I have never had a better stir fry! The homemade salad dressing is my favorite dressing- I have even bought some to take home! in addition to having good food, It is very clean and the service is always pleasant. The owner (Sam) is a really nice guy and really cares about getting feedback. Love the family owned restaurant feel :) I have been going to Market Square for years and Ill continue to be a frequent customer.

This place has good burgers. Now it's an added bonus that they have video gaming. I'll have to make it a point to return here as it has been a couple of years. Good local restaurant.

Stopped by for lunch. The best part of the meal was the attentiveness of the waitress. The cabbage soup was uneatable. Forced three spoons full and was sorry I did. The soup tasted like cheap balsamic and white vinegar in a semi-gelatinous broth. The dressing for my salad was straight out of a can or used the same ingredients as the soup. It was a thick sweet balsamic gel which ruined the spinach leaves and overcooked stewed chicken pieces.

My grandma lives right by this restaurant and at first I had the idea that is was going to be great; I was dead wrong. I came on Easter and one waiter took care of about 5 tables so my drink was constantly empty and there wasn't any silverware on my side. The soda was flat and it was the wrong drink too; I ordered a coke and got a sprite, well a "flat" sprite. What got me was the burrito I ordered. The meat was very bland, undercooked, and just "tasteless". I asked if they could redo it and they still didn't change a thing :( On top of that the fries my mother had were absurd: soggy, cold, and bland. The waitress worked really hard but the kitchen had huge problems. One rumor I heard is that they serve rotten tomatoes. I give this place one star for at least having a good waiter. The word that comes to mind whenever I think of this place is "BLAND". So go here if it is a last resort. Taco Bell has better burritos. God knows what there burgers are like here.

I've avoided this place because it's kind of in a shady strip mall. I finally decided to try it out because of some of the decent reviews for this place. I had pretty low expectations and was surprised at how good the food was. I had ordered steak kabobs which came with rice... delish! the meat was over cooked (looked well done as I ordered it medium), but it actually turned out pretty tasty and tender. my wife ordered a buttery crusted walleye and that was pretty good as well. our special came with soup and salad and dessert. I didn't quite care for the soup or salad and dessert was a scoop of ice cream. our server was really attentive to our needs and answered all of our questions without getting frustrated (we asked a lot of questions...) or annoyed. he was also the one to recommend the steak kabobs which were great. I did give this place 4 stars, but this is 4 stars for a family style restaurant, it's in no way comparable to finer dining establishments, but it does well for what it is.

What a great place for dinner they give great portions of food for a good price. Sam is great and he has a good staff. A family atmosphere and a bar to relax in or have some fun. Video gaming is also there win some loss some just need to know when to stop. BEST desserts around.

Ordered a 2 burger special, came with soup and fries, I was at first it seemed like not a lot of food, but with soup, you get full. Liked the soups, but the burgers were below average, with rotten tomatoes and lettuce, saggy fries. I was very disappointed that I was charged 50 cents for a side of a BBQ sauce. I would not go back there and as it was mentioned in other reviews, the place looks very outdated and just not a pleasant atmosphere.

Keep coming back, but i font know why? Everytime I order eggs they cant even get it close. Over medium, would mean slightly runny yolks, but the white would be done. Hate runny white's in the eggs, and if you want sausage, you have to tell them over. and over hot, or they will come on the cold side. How hard could it be to actually look at what was ordered and understand. If I go for scrambled very dry, again they do not cook them all the way. Guess I am tired of not getting a done right breakfast.

Downgraded baker square at best! Dark and dumpy inside service was horrible I would've ordered more like soup and dessert if the server came back more than once during the entire meal! I would go to Denny's or ihop for better service and better food

Went to a birthday party at Market Square tonight. I have been here before and found the food to be decent. Tonight I had the beef kabob. The meat was tender and fairly tasty. It came with soup and salad. Both were good. We were a group of 15 and the service was terrific. A birthday cake was brought in so I can't comment on their desserts, but what I saw in the case looked delicious. It is too far away for me to frequent, but if one lives in the area, this is a very family friendly place and certainly accommodating to parties and larger groups, as well as a simple lunch.

my go-to spot when I'm home and hungry. my brother and I rave to many people about it because the food portions and prices are very reasonable.. i've had just about everything on the menu!! (i eat here at least once a week) my favorite so far has been the lamb shank but hasn't been on the specials menu as of late.. everything here is good.. i'm not a fan of patty melts but my brother swears by Market Squares.. I take his word!! Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!!

I have had Market Square for lunch 3 days in a row this week! The food is spectacular- especially the broiled red salmon and the matza ball soup. I took advantage of faxing my order in from work and even got a free dessert! As far as delivery lunches go, a hot meal far surpasses the usual cold sandwich we get stuck with, and the fresh, flavorful meals from Market Square are perfect. I would suggest the Broiled Tilapia, Broiled Red Salmon, the Cheddaburger, and the Matza Ball soup.

I ordered an omelette with cheese. I was thankful they took the plastic off the cheese before they slapped it on top of the so called omelette. Looked like a dog threw up on my plate. Please for the love, don't go here!!!

This is a throwback of sorts - to the 90's when this area had many of this type of place - like Bimbo's, Alemar's and Ritzy's-North. All gone now. It has a well worn look of a popular place, but the food is a great bargain and it is quite good. Like most throwbacks, they overload you - all the daily specials include BOTH soup and salad, plus a simple dessert. My wife had the Greek Chicken - pronounced it one of the best versions ever. Clam Chowder was first rate. About 10 bucks with sides and a soup OR salad everyday. The Ruben Sandwich was only ok (a bit too toasted) but was so huge I couldn't finish half of it after the salad that comes with it. Both come with a basket of home made breads. Service was friendly and fast on a Friday evening.

This place is okay when it comes to their food, me and my co-workers often order here because they deliever and we are damn lazy to go out to lunch. I always get the mediterranean salad on fridays becuase it comes w/soup and bread roll and a cookie =) The salad is very generous, it could be a little fresher though w/the ingredients. The salad dressing that everyone raves about is just okay. It didn't blow my mind, it's like a creamy buttermilk with spices, I don't know it was just ok. The bread roll doesn't usually have any flavor to it so I butter it up lol! The free cookie is tasty, sometimes dry but I mean hey it's free don't complain right LOL!! The salads are about 9-12 dollars.

I have been going to this restaurant with my family for many years mostly because of the location. They have a large menu with a little bit of everything. The food is so-so. Prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is comfortable. It's like a diner but they have flat screen tvs which is kind of odd. Check out the dessert case when you come in to see what they have. The wait staff is very friendly and they keep us coming back.

Breakfast specials at great prices! Eggs and ham off the bone for less than 4 bucks. Service is not so special. Coffee is good fo a buck 75. Will visit again.

My girlfriend dragged me to this place last night. Boy was I surprised. This place gets a 5/5 for me. The food was great, the portions were VERY generous, the staff was pleasant, the food was VERY good, and the dishes were fairly priced. The total cost for my girlfriend and I was less than $30, and that was with an appetizer or two. Oh, by the way, the service was FAST. I think instead of ordering out when we are to lazy to make dinner we will be dining here.

Just had another quality dinner at Market Square. I have family that has eaten here for years and years, and they know just about everyone that comes in and out. With the smoking ban, it's a much more pleasant experience. It's standard greek diner fare, with a giant menu, and I can't say enough about the fresh roasted hand carved turkey dishes. Their handmade desserts are all pretty good.

Nothing terribly special about Market Square, just your standard greek dinner fare.
