This place is my go to for grabbing lunch when I'm in the area. Clean and classy bar that has a great selection of beers on hand and their food is delicious. Everything I have tried there has been great. Their staff is always friendly! Definitely a must try!!

Stopped here before a comedy show at the Genesee Theater. Definitely a locals bar but everyone was friendly. It filled up a bit after we arrived so arrive early if going to a show! I had a buffalo chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. The wrap had grilled chicken and the sauce had a good kick. Fries were good and plenty of them. My boyfriend had the italian beef ("best in town") and said it was tasty. Servings were large. Service good. Great beer selection - even had Goose Island Bourbon County Stout on draft. A treat! Dinner and 4 craft beers came in around $60.

good friendly service, though sometimes a bit slow. food is good, just don't get the Wedge Salad - the ratio of the parmesan cheese, bacon, and blue cheese mix on the lettuce was out of whack - unbelievably too much parmesan cheese. i had to scrape essentially a half inch of it off the wedge. but do not let that stop you - great place especially before a show.

This is a fine neighborhood bar, but the food is just okay. It's very generic. I still like the jalapeño poppers, but last night's decision to try the sandwiches makes me think twice about eating there again. It was crowded, so maybe they were understaffed. However I felt a little undervalued when I ordered the potato chips with my tuna sandwich. I got a large handful of Ruffles. I thought, how sad that they stopped making their own chips in house. Then when I was paying my bill, someone ordered a sandwich with chips and theirs were homemade. Not cool. They forgot my poppers too, but they were comped for the inconvenience. More and more, you can find craft beers all over the place, so the bloom is off the rose for me here.

Friendly tavern with a distinct neighborhood feel. Lots of bottled beers available and a good selection of small breweries as well as the usual suspects on tap. I enjoyed the tuna melt which was served on dark rye but could be ordered on several breads. Chips were included which made it a just right sized lunch. The bartender (Mike) was Johnny on the spot when I needed something, which I appreciated. I was told later that GTT has a Friday Fish fry that is one of the best this side of Appleton. Overall I feel Green Town Tavern is a good, friendly, sports bar for a brew and a bite without spending a whole lot of $. There is lots of parking just a few steps away on Water Street. It's true that the decor is classic "Dive Bar" but if you look closely, the place is clean and well maintained- just not well decorated. I feel GTT has a whole lot of good things going for it- lets hope the south end of Genesee Street keeps cultivating gems like this.

I came right as they opened on a Wednesday and the service was great. Everyone was attentive and my meal was great. I ordered a chopped salad which was huge and fed me for 3 meals. We also split mozzarella sticks and those were fresh and yummy, too.

I Love Green Town Tavern. OMG, the salads are so good. The lettuce is always fresh, and the grilled chicken is amazing. I am not a salad kinda girl, but after having one of theirs , I have been craving them. I know It's just a salad, but the chicken strips and the blackened chicken sandwich are also very tasty. Gotta eat there!!, and if u like sports I guess watch a game or something. OBTW, it's also clean!!

Dropped in here for lunch and was surprised at the food! My dad got a regular burger which was done perfectly with some really good sweet potato fries. Definitely suggest these. I had a tuna melt which was also really, really good. Be sure to get it WITH the hot peppers. Highly recommend. And last but not least, a GREAT beer selection and a really nice bar tender too. Hungry? Want a beer? Go here. Now!

Surprisingly good. We had the perch and cod specials. Both had a crunchy panko and cornmeal breading that was delicious. Cod was flaky, fresh perfection. Perch was very good too. I usually don't like tartar; I loved this tartar. Crisp coleslaw, perfectly seasoned. One star deducted because we never got our appetizer. There were lots of fries, so we definitely didn't leave hungry. We'll be back. Just got our bill, taking off another star, $42 for bar food for two is too much. I want a restaurant setting for that much.

Good food but terribly slow service so if you're pressed for time either call your order in or chance running late from lunch

I've eaten here three times, but the only thing I like is the atmosphere; nice pub feel and friendly staff. However, mixed drinks were consistently watered down and the pub grub menu is boring and not cooked well. None of my companions have had anything good to say about the food, either. The burgers are OK, but the chips I ordered were burnt. The wrong food was delivered to my table at two different occasions, and the nachos come with a cheap and tasteless cheese sauce. The food and drinks are definitely not worth the price.

If you are ever in Waukegan and in need of food or a good mug o'beer Go HERE! Have been here twice now after biking up from Chicago and both times have been great. A great staff, good tunes on the juke and cheap beers. Also a new updated menu. I don't ride a Hog, but a bicycle, however if you do ride a hog they have some sweet Harley nights here I'd check out if its your thing. The bar has tons of photos of their events lining the walls and they looked cool. Its Waukegan - where else are you going to go? Check it out.

What a diamond in the rough. Pleasantly surprised. Great selection of beer, fabulous music, and good service. Don't let the fact in downtown Waukegan scare you!!

Just South of the downtown area this Neighborhood style bar is a great spot to watch a game, have a drink or enjoy a great meal. From wraps to a great burger as well as a great Fish fry, you will not be disappointed. Located in the Renaissance district in Waukegan you are only feet away from a Surf Shop, a beautiful Piano store/ Coffee shop and across the street from one of Waukegan's many Art Galleries. A great place to sit down for dinner before a show at the famous Genesee Theater. They also have a great Breakfast on Saturday which includes large portions and great Bloody Mary's at the full bar. They also have a great party room upstairs that is available for any event.

Meh. Its pretty good for downtown Waukegan, but if you have wheels, you should go somewhere else. It is pub grub, but not particularly good pub grub for fairly high prices. Their drinks still work, but you can do better. I go here approximately as often as I forget my previous experiences. Anywhere else, I would give this place a 1-star rating, but i think of downtown Waukegan as the Special Olympics for restaurants, so 2 stars.

Showed up around 8:20 last night to wait for the 9:00 show by our favorite "eclectic duo" and friends. This was our first trip to Green Town, and were pleasantly surprised to catch the end of another liv eschew upstairs. We figured we'd wait until we went back downstairs to order our food. Down there, around 9:00 the less-than-helpful bartender tells us that the kitchen is closed. "You don't have anything?" I asked. So he shuffles off to the back and returns. "We just got some cupcakes in today," he offers, "but I'm not sure..." And I lose the rest of whatever he's trying to say, Seriously? Cupcakes? Feeling hungry, but working on on beer, we sit and listen. Around 9:15 the table just down from us gets two platter of fajitas, the special of the day. So, I try again. "Can we get some fajitas?" I asked the bartender. "That was the last order out," he says. In another 5 minutes we were going to be done with our beer. And out the door to find food, but just before we left, here comes another order out of the kitchen.... A nice hamburger platter for the old Greek guy and his wife who, all evening, have made themselves the center of attention. So, clearly, the kitchen is never closed for the right people. Don't bother with the Green Town Tavern if you're not already one of the regulars. If you are one of the regulars, you won't be reading this anyway. BTW, we found great food, service and music just up the street at Big Ed's.

Nice downtown bar in the heart of beautiful Waukegan. There are not many good bars to go to around this town. Most are dive bars, but this one has some class. A wide selection of beer and attractive interior make this one of the few places in the greater Waukegan metro area worth checking out.
